omg, cauliflower. I hated that as a child and never even thought of making it myself as an adult. Th4 my husband cooked me some... and I loved it. Makes a lot of difference if you cook it to pulp (as my mother does) or not.

ISS works by having a room in the school where all suspended kids are gathered, and they can only to school work or read, and are marched as a group to bathrooms and a separate lunch period from others.
My son got an in school suspension once, and the rule was that he could NOT work on schoolwork, which I thought was absolutely nuts.

well, MrP, i hope principal listens to reason. it simply makes more sense to put the suspended kids to work at school instead of giving them the day off. and frankly, a little embarassment in front of their friends doesnt hurt either!

... the problem there is they'll end up working in a group (10 kids cleaning up the cafeteria at the end of lunch) in which case it becomes a badge of honour ... because we took on the authorities and we stood up to them

The theory behind not being allowed to do homework during suspension is much the same as not giving out of school suspension. If they can do homework, it's like giving them "free homework time". That is why many schools give assignments to be done during suspension that are not homework.
first offense 100o words, 2nd 2500 words, 3rd 15 000 words.... and have very specific topics about corporal punishment, or teamwork or the like
... so many excellent ideas but they all have a fatal flaw ... how do you get the kid to write the essay? ... my pet peeve is not the kids ... it's the parents who don't want to bother raising their kids ... let the schools do it ... ...
and should the essay have been assigned it goes onto the school record... and if does not achieve a minimal grade one of the core required credits must be repeated in order to graduate

dose..as a custodian.. it is not JUST an issue of "taking my work". Given the chemicals that we use (and are required to have training, WHMIS etc) how many parents - who are already expecting teachers to do the job of raising their kids - are going to sign off on a waiver sheet. Also, the children , because of the nature of their "punishment" are then being supervised by a custodian - who has no authority, nor protection under the school board (legally speaking) to do so

i graduated high school 16 years ago, and i most certainly learned proper english. i do get lazy when chatting online, but in any official capacity, you'd best believe i am writing with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
many custodians would do it.. but as a legal side, it holds risks. and yes, I don't knock the idea as a whole but how to implement it to ctually act as a correction is another thing

I have 3 granddaughters who have graduated or are close to graduation from high school. 2 of them still use their fingers to add and subract and have to use a calculator if multiplication or division is involved. I think that is a very sad commentary on today's education program. At one time a student would never have got past grade 5 without those basic math facts at their fingertips. Now it seems that no effort is required, so no effort is given.

hi, all. just wanted to let you know my mother has made it through her surgery, and will be in intensive care for a bit, which is standard, then she will be in the hospital for about a week. the doctors believe they got all of the cancer. praise God, she will be fine.
