it will be 14 yrs in November, but I designed it and had it planted, at least the trees and shrubs the year before we moved, during the house renovations
we were still in Miami and coming over a couple of times a year, even before we were married
I can understand you are proud of it...but maybe youneed to have your practical head reassess....
there was virtually no garden -- just some shrubbery, 2 little maples, a couple of big pine trees and a mock cherry
I have a guy who comes occasionally to do the heavy stuff, but men can't seem to understand the difference between weeds and good plants, and too much gets trampled when he or my husband try to get into the borders
it is a really lovely garden - all in shades of pink, salmon, red, violet, blue and a little white for punctuation.

we also put in a fish pond with a fountain in the middle which has antiqued itself with moss and algae.

it is a great environment for birds and tightly fenced, so food for the dogs, too. And we don't use any insecticides

we used to ski In Austria, one of the reasons we chose eastern France, but after two neighbors had severe ski accidents, we gave it up. And one of them later died because of it
I was a very cautious skier and always skied with a teacher, not for lessons, but for protection because I am small. But it got to be too scary with too many people and snowboards. If somebody had crashed into me, I would have been killed
ouch....my son is a skier, he skied for the army until he hurt his back and had to have ops on it...he still skis, but doesn't race anymore

my son hates the snowboarders, (well not hate, you know) say that they don't seem to appreciate how dangerous they can be!
that's how we feel; they should have their own mountains, not be allowed to use the same ones as skiers!

we had the old Lincoln Library at home when I was growing up... it filled in as a booster seat at the table when needed. I have the complete set of World Book Encyclopedia... ( 1972 and somewhat obsolete now lol ) and scads of almanacs.... I haven't bought a reference book since I got my computer in 2002.

also, sometimes tom will set my cellphone to "3G" and I don't realize it so it keeps looking for that BIG signal even though our area doesn't have that kind of coverage...
when a phone keeps searching for a signal it runs the battery down very quickly

I like maple syrup candies. They come in santa shapes and maple leaf shapes, and they are the NICEST treat almost ever.

we tried the one at Granny's house two decades ago. It was nice, but being mechanical it wasn't as good at the texture -- tom has it down to an art, adding liquids or extra flour to adjust to humidity and temp and such.

there might be more intelligent models nowadays though. I am told technology progresses rather quickly in this brave new world.

we used a old vaporizer and some towels
tom mostly makes sourdough... he has a starter he has been using for about 15 years I think.
so you whip some cream cheese with some honey. you spread that on angel food cake, and then you put a layer of fresh lime pieces on top of the honeycheese. then you eat it and marvel at the goodness. :)
