Mine are fine except in certain circumstances. They are very afraid of other dogs and of riding in the car

I was in WV to see the leaves a couple weeks ago. Riding the steam trains.
sigh..son is home from school with head lice.there were over 40 kids waiting to be picked up when i went to get him,seems a highly infect5ed "host" child has been wandering round with a head full fo adults lice and eggs for a wekk or so:(

I agreed to be on a university committee that evaluates dissertations (PhD) and theses (MS), to pick the best one
they sent us the information earlier this week
I worked 34 years in ICU. Absolutely loved it but had an OTJ foot injury and 3 surgeries later I couldn't work in the hospital any more. Tried Telephone triage (HATED it!) and spent the past 3 years as a NM for a prenatal clinic in a small pregnancy resource center
I figured we should read the abstract and the letters of recommendation
uh-oh. What's the catch, sue?
turns out they want us to read the ENTIRE THING!!!
so I have 7 dissertations and 4 theses to read by Monday. About 2000+ pages.
So I won't be around much :-)

i put in 37 years on very busy surgery floors - did a stint in pediatrics when i graduated until i started my own family.
I read really fast, nef, even without the speed reading, so it's doable, I just won't have time for much else
especially as my weekend is already full with things I can't get out of

I'm not really sure if the diamond was still in it after I left the surgery center or not. I just felt it snag on something this a.m. and I looked down. *GASP!* Looking at homewoners insurance policy now to figure out if it could be considered any kind of loss.
It usually is covered.
I guess the stone could have been gone that long, Nef. Those rings are just part of my anatomy now. I know they're there, but I hardly ever look at them.
I feel terrible. It was my MIL's diamond. Hubby had it reset for my engagement ring.
Surely it would have snagged on something before that if it's been gone that long.. I'd be ripping the bed apart and crawling on the floors with a flashlight, etc. if that was me
actually it is not dry at all, Nef, makes me want to go read the books he talks about (only one I've read is Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon)

I already tore the bed apart, Nef. I'm still hobbled from my surgery, so I can't crawl around on the floor like I want to.
what did you have done? (Sorry, I missed the fact you had surgery before this)
I had an IT band lengthening in my right hip. 6" scar w/13 staples. Still sore as hell. I did sweep the kitchen floor. I hate to put a claim into the surgery center since I have no proof that's when the diamond went missing.
I plan on having hubby vaccum. Then I will sift through the vac bag to see if anything appears. We have not vaccumed since my surgery, so there is hope it's just buried in the carpet somewhere.

I'm so hoping you find it! My daughter lost an opal out of her ring recently. I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and thought I'd stepped on a pebble (not knowing she'd lost the stone); when she told me about it aI told her I felt something during the night and sure enough; the opal was lying in the grout lines of the tiled BR floor
It is a small diamond (1/4 carat), so, it could have gone out the door stuck to the bottom of a shoe by now, etc. etc.

Very lucky you found that opal, Nef. And lucky it wasn't crushed when you stepped on it. Opals are on the soft side.
Judi, if you have a cannister vacuum, pulla nylon over the hose and go over the floor wit it. It will pick up dirt; but a diamond (and bigger stuff) will be caught in the nylon

Do have a cannister vac. It has a hepa filter. We have so much dog and cat hair, I'm afraid the nylon would just cause the hose to clog up.

It is an older diamond - probably purchased in the mid - 1930's to early 1940's. Wonder if that makes it worth more?
Never appraised, Nef. Hubby never paid for the diamond, just to have it re-set.
And - that was 26 1/2 years ago, so no paperwork remaining for that either.

Sorry, that phone call lasted longer than I expected. Judi, a stone from the 30's or 40's may be worth more today; the itty bitty stones in DH's and my rings (from the 70's) were worth 10 times over what we paid for them. (We had DH's ring re-sized last Nov. after he'd lost it 3 times and found it each time!

Oh LA, my brother was (falsely) diagnosed with stomach cancer yesterday. The histology tests today revealed that whatever is wrong with him is not cancer. I have been doing the happy dance all day :-)

Here's a story of clues for those who ne 4/5 it. I was ir 4/5 yesterday when I was stuck in traffic. No 4/4 of the drivers who live near me seem to know how to drive in the rainy weather. They can drive fine in dr 5/12 weather, but once it starts raining they forget how to drive. My car sat in5/10 on the street for 30 minutes because an idiot driver hit a tr4/4. It seems that drivers are unable to drive in an or7/40 fashion in the rain. I was in a bad mood as I ro 4/5 in my car to work.I'm going to get off my de8/45 and go watch the DeNiro film The De4/5 Hunter. I did not edit this story.
