That was a random typing find for me. I'm not up on my ancient Peruvian. : P
it was an accidental typo for me
Finally found the dr7 and I should have seen that one y'all. : )
The other 7s are pretty elusive so far. Good morning/evening all.
Hi Haz
I'm shocked that you're not up on the old ancient Peruvian.
I'm hanging my head in shame Haz. I have been slacking. : )
Just so long as you know there's room for improvement.
I think I daydreamed my way through most of the Peru section of ancient history. I seem to remember something about Incans. : )
That about sums up my Peru knowledge as well.
Oh, and I know where there is a good Peruvian restaurant.
You're further on than me. Is the piped music pan-pipe music?
I don't know, I never go there. The people I work with do.
hah nice pun molly ru would be proud
or... nice clue lol
What did I clue?
The dr7.
Ah, I thought you were referring to something in our Peru conversation.
lol no im slow :)

hi all
hi carlee :))
hi hun..hows u?
ok thanks darl... and you??
school treating you ok?
tired but good...down to the wire...3 finals this week and then i can say i made it through the first term!!!
1st term! OMG! that has flown for you!
yeap...it did
i cant believe HOW much i LOVE it...i've decided too...that i will really try and get employment in s city that has a teachers college in it..so that as soon as am teaching..i will take evening courses etc to bump my way up to VP and principal
will seriously jump in payscale that way
then i can pay dxh to stay the F out of my life
oh wow! you are keen to get into adminstration rather than teaching?
no..i m keen to someday afford to be able to retire
vp's teach here
vp's and p's teach here too... but rarely. it is a good thing to get into for sure. I am very disheartened with my daughter's school admin. It is just BS
u go from mid 5 figure....up to high 5 figure vp'ing..if principal...u are 6 figure/ year
if i get myself a small condo somewhere....pay y fees...(in a highrise)...i am good... no worries...
my DH is six figures, but the tax is stupid. isn't worth it to work as an employee
i will invest up the wazzoo
i am left with no RRSP's no pension...nothing....and he is not paying support..sooo
he isn't paying support??
well he is supposed to be
but he hasnt for 4 months
and why did they take away your pension?
i was a stay at home mum....
my canada pension....i worked it out..i will get about 89.00/ month from that that i have paid in to
we get that for just having the kids
actually, we get that every fortnight
anyway..i have to go in the direction that will secure my future
indeed carlee!
i will teach...and get into administration
i support and wish the best for you!
and actually daily full days of teaching..to me....i would burn out..i love kids..but i would come to hate that day in and day out
a couple years or so...cool..but i would burn out i know me
thanks hun :) so hows life treating you all..things working their way back to an even keel?
ah you know how it is carlee...
i am going to make a xmas for my kids... have already made plans for what we are doing on xmas eve, and it won't involve any of the losers in this neighbourhood!
xmas day will also be sans idiots, out of area that is... and will go spend time with friends on boxing day

Good morning everyon
howdy
hi Gramma
We had the best party last night. It was a birthday celebration for a friend and neighbor. She did the invites and we did the hosting
sounds like fun
It was. We ended up dancing away in the kitchen
:-)
Good morning all. Hey Mom, have you heard from Annie? She hasn't been around in a while and I was just checking in.
good morning Molly.
I have not heard from Annie but I did speak to her daughter and she is a bit under the weather
My poor husband was over served (by himself) and fell down.
Sounds like a fun party Gramma.
poor husband, hope he didn't hurt himself
Aw, healing thoughts out for Annie.
indeed, I do miss her
Oh no, he was just standing there eating shrimp and bang down he went
Wow, must have been some strong drinks.
shrimp will do that to ya. :-)
I like your icon, Molly
It was pretty funny. We didn't know most of the people. It was a great group. This 1 woman was rather shocked. She's like...your husband just fell. And I say, oh again? Laugh
:-)
Good day to all.
hi, scrabbler
hello Scrabbler, good day to you
We have snow! Yay!
enjoy
We need lots more ASAP! The ski resort across the valley must open for Xmas vacation. Those 10-14 days are crucial economically.
My 2nd oldest son manages a ski resort. They've been making snow and skiing for a couple of weeks now.
The snow-making machines were on a few days ago, then it warmed up for 2 days, and they are on now. When I went out to fetch my newspaper I heard the hum of the machines.
no snow here, thankfully, but cold.
Where does your son work?
SugarBush
Is that in VT?
Yes, sorry I should have said that
Thanks about the icon Mom. It reminds me of being a little girl at Christmas time.
you're welcome
I have heard of it. I love VT and vacationed in Burlington several yrs ago. I wanted to move there!
It is an incredible place to live, if you can afford the taxes.
And in July when I was in the Adirondack Mtns, on a rainy day we took a ferry from Port Something, NY to Burlington and had a sunny day there.
Port Kent
NY state taxes are outrageous already
We were living in Southern Vt. and every time we headed north the sun came out. We took that as a good sign and moved to the Champlain valley. No regrets. It's wonderful
I see that you are in MIddlebury. My nephew has a friend at Middlebury College.
Fabulous school
great kids and a boon for the town.
I would thrive there--Burlington and nearby--hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, canoeing...heaven!
Alas, I grew up here in the Buffalo area and my parents are 80. My roots are here.
Lake Champlain is our fun in the summer, fall and even in winter. Not so much spring
Wow you are lucky to have your parents. My Dad died 29 years ago and my Mom 1 year later
My mother believes she is healthy because she has stayed away from doctors for 25 yrs. She is so stubborn.
Good for her!
This grid is not as easy as yesterday's.
I didn't have much of a chance yesterday. Working and entertaining
it has a bite to it
finally NBT
My parents don't yet know that they will become great-grandparents in July. My 23 yr old nephew and his GF have an "oops" although a baby is a blessing.
I lost 2 nights of sleep last wk after learning the news, then I focused on providing support.
will this be the first great-grandchild?
Yep. And my nephew assumes it will be a boy.
I hope they will be thrilled at the news
Shock for a few days, then excitement.
men always think it will be a boy.
morning everyone
of course, news like that is always a shock I would think
good morning LBD

phantom: ruby - no time.....
hi ruby
{{sprite}}
i did ty sprite
any way to keep the cursor in the "Add Word:" box after you hit enter?
good :) I hope they are ok, I experimented a bit with calibre.
it should stay there, unless you chat, test
calibre is amazing, but has many, many tweaks
No. As soon as I type the work and hit enter, the focus is now on "Add".
I like playing around with new programs. Let me know if I made a mess though.
sprite? -- you have found a way to convert to epub?

have you closed Babble and reopened?
will do
some times refreshing helps...I have the same problem
will di will da will doodleloodlelum
have tested this on two computers doing the same thing.
hi phaeton
lol sprite
sprite?
hi sprite
have you closed Babble and reopened? Or control + refresh? (F5)
is lickety up and running?
yes nan?
yes phaeton
test..try on a different browser..same thing happened to me
also make sure your temp files and cookies are cleaned regularly
have you found a program that converts other codecs to e-pub?
Babble is said to work best on FF
will try all these and be back. Thanks.
and i use chrome and it also works well
yes nan, calibre. It is a free program. Works very good.
good luck, test
ty -- will download it and give it a try
calibre is the golden standard in this regard nan
and keeps a back up of all your books as well
to convert, nan: first add the book in the format you have. Then click with right mouse, choose convert. In upper right corner of new window you can choose the format.
Closed browser, cleaned temp and cookies, logged back in. Same thing. Cursor focus won't stay in the Add Word field.
bottom i?
jeezz how very irritating, test. If you want, you could download the babble browser.
and here I was wondering how I would ever use even 50% of the 1TB space I have on my new computer!
kje: same. Ditto.
if you are gonna fill it with epubs, nan, you have your job cut out for you, LOL
ty sprite
well,l;ike they say test, could be worse.when i play bable on my tablet, the keyboard vanishes after each entry

ah, that will work fine, nan. Images are big. Text is small ;)
need a lot of epubs for a gig lol
you weren't here sprite, when I made the announcement -- we are expecting the addition of twins to our family in March
yaa ! congrats for cybernan!
oh nan how nice! Congratulations, and may it all go smoothly.
WE are really excited about it -- not sure that son and d-i-l are passed the stunned stage yet!
I hope they will have help. Twins are a huge job. Are the twins their first kids, or do they have more children already?
was she taking fertility drugs or what is just a random thing?
their daughter will be 20 months old when the twins are born
ah that is a good thing, first child is always such a culture shock. At least they are experienced. Quite an adventure!
just shooting twice, maybe, crossy?
I could never understand how parents can take care of twins. One at a time was all I could handle. Credit to all the parents of multiples
*seconds bichon*
My s.i.l. 's mother had twins 11 months after he was born. She said she cried a lot
there is a history of twins in her family
lol,perhaps
I can imagine. Three babies. Way too much to handle.
I'm sure someone's little nose will be out of joint -- only grandchild on other side of the family and she is accustomed to being treated like a little empress
Does anyone here know anything about rum. I am doing a crossword puzzle and the clue is Caribbean rum, 7 letters. It's not Baccardi or Curacao
oh crossy, you and me are in the grid today!
bacardi has one c
mmm -- my fave is appleton estate
yaa for crossy and sprite!
appleton estates spiced rum..mmmmm
it has to have 7 letters
bacardi
not bacardi or curacao
though i only buy it at this time of year
Bichon...do you have any of the other letters?
cachaca maybe
no tabby, I even Googled it
I have never seen the word "pellucid" in a grid. Why is that?
try cachaca
we rarely have a double L in grids, especially combined with U and C.
same reason i guess that you have never seen electroencephalagraph..the stars have not aligned correctly yet
fireflies
I knew there had to be a reason.
yaa for sprite!!
I have never seen "chicanery" either.
congrats sprite
Sprite, that might be it. TY
I wish BabbleRabble was here with his lovely phantoms
did anyone see the lunar eclipe last night?
great, bichon! Google for the win
not me, crossy. Was it visible in Holland?
not sure,we had cloud cover and snow;(
too cloudy here
you mean you were here, in Holland? And you didn't visit? *kicks crossy straight into next week*
Too busy sleeping.
there is a nice pi 6/33 for you kaplan that we do not get often= to highten your interest
ok dear friends, anything I may clue before I go?
yes and a nice Le7 too
and the base pi 5 18 to go with it
still need 94 and haven't listed, but thanks, sprite
The one that means ir4?
lol,no spite i was not in holland of late
82 here. At least it's a fat Saturday grid
mmm - found an le 6, but no 7
harharharrrr just because I kicked you does not mean you can call me spite.
saturdays..ugh,here in tourist country that is the day of the week when we really give it hell.the hotel better be ready, the lattes better be hot and by god we better have the cheapest gas on earth lol
clue for the le 7, please?
seafaring phrase, nan
ty sprite
yvw
Can I have a clue for le7?
ok random clues: foreign currency alert, 3 words ending in a nervous habit, a W6/7 combo meaning crossy and me.
Kenny, it is more or less a compound, first part means into the windside, the second part indicates a direction.
nautical term for sailing into the wind. or maybe with the windl
or: first part is Bruce, second part is the person overseen by a guardian
don't get the crossy and you part
strange people, nan
Tx Sprite
bruce who?
oh the le 7
best one i ever had though bar none, was the woman in the pink bmw,she roars in,drives slowly by all my pumps(she had michigan plates on),i watch this for a min or 2,then she rolls up and says"boy, where are the gas pumps that sell in gallons?" i said"first ,woman,i am older than you i am sure and second, pumps that sell in gallons are a 3 hour drive south where you came from or if we could time travel back to 1978 i might have been able to help you" she says "you canadians are all idiots,no wonder we will not LET you join the states!" and she roars off the lot and on her merry way
the fighting one, nan
yvw Kenny
martial arts action movie star, enter the dragon
oh -- have that onne lol -- you could include all of us in that clue!
what an utter bitch, crossy
lol nan
you pluraled it too, didn't you, nan?
yes
sorry that w 6/7 clue did not do it for me:(
cryptic clue: even though letter is not in the grid, there is a letter in the grid.
crossy: strange people
mm -- only have one ending with a facial twitch
gah! spritey! *tears at hair*
clue please for the 2nd me5/15 please?
oh -- kept looking for a word that would suit something other than gallons!
3 in total, nan. And there is only one (1) comparative, amazing enough.
if you mean me5/14, it is a french curse
5/14....sorry
(that was for Flask)
lol TOwl, keeps your brains young!
me 5! missed that one!
thanks Sprite!
*yawn* this would be easier if I were awake
hehehe I always miss that one.

back later for final 35. i am watcing cooking show, amaking stiky toffe pudding. i caanot imagine the taste from the ingriedients.
oooo restaurant chef - I love that show
If it is the one that is like spice cake with a carmelized brown sugar sauce and served with whipped cream -- it is delicious
yep she reminds me of my aunt who also worked in restaurants.
i'd love to be anne burrell's bestie :)
bingo, nan! looks very easy to make as well. but when she says brandy, i do not know what that means. i thought thre is more than one kind
couvoisier is good
or you can use an orange brandy with it for a little different taste -- cointreau or grand marnier
St. Remy is good too
morning all!
that is probably one i can buy i miniature but that would not be enough. nan our liquor is state controlled and costs a lot more here
hi sue
howdy suze!:)
hi sue
temple are you from PA? homegirl!
nobody said hi to me :0(
hi crossy and griffums and nan! and TO!
grand marnier is brandy?
hi sue
lolT.O up here were the the world standard of govt run, priced and controlled big brother booze stores;((
Hi JEN!!!!!!
not really, but I substitute it for brandy in some of my recipes
HI, Jen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi griffums
wouldn't that alter the taste to use gm? I have that if that is what goes into margaritas.
lol - was thinking the same thing, crossy
yes it does -- but a good combo in sticky toffee pudding
yes but we are sandwwiched between new jersey and delaware! :)
we are not big enought to buy our booze just anywhere you know:)
you should be able to get mini bottles of St Remy though
same here. nor on sunday. never mind that we just go across the state line. they actually at times wait for folks and follow them from the large discount liquor stores just across the state line.
or, you could substitute rum -- but use a good one like bacardi gold or appleton estate
yes but the recipe calls for 1/2 cup
I get the culture shock every time I go back home and realize I can't buy booze along with the milk and eggs!
TO, our liquor stores are open on Sunday now.
no rum ever. since i drank a rum & coke mistakenly as a child and threw all over.
lol, griff -- BC tried to do that, but it was voted down
temple owl,up intill i would say 1990.,we could not even see the bottles displayed on a shelf!.you would go in,there would be a counter with a catalogue and order slips, you would page through till you found what you like, mark down the order number and bring the slip to the guy behind the wicket with the bars on it,he would take your ticket,go in the back room and return with said bottle already wrapped in a plain brown paper bag, then ring you sale through, but only after asking for tow kinds of id
molly welcome to the 21th cntury! wee are discussing brandy as we watch anne burrell make sticky toffe pudding
it was probably rot gut rum -- think if I tried a Capt Morgan or one of that ilk, I would be calling ralph too!
well rum is not too good for a six year old who as been eating gods knows what at a party all night
oh, i MUST make this cake!!! it is so easy!
true!
... maybe up in the backwoods crossy ... but down here in the big city it was about 1975-1980
lol dose,i know two norther communities that still use trailers for the store
abd crossy, god knows what you boozing lumderjacks would do, get on your dogsleds and try to come south to the promised land LOL
... but I did buy my fist bottle by putting a number on a slip of paper and waiting for the guy to go get it from the back storeroom
The first time I ever had it, we were in Beauly, Scotland -- when I ordered it, the waitress asked if I would like it with whipped cream, ice cream or both -- I'm sure you know what my answer was!
I bought my first one by going 8 mi south into Maryland
... bumped into that driving along the Superior north shore on a cross country trip five years ago ... ... neat
well to,we may go south for the hard stuff, but not for the beer! :)
or whatever that watery stuff is
you might for the one i had th other night: rude elf. 10,3
too true crossy, although we make a lot of beer here and much of it is sterner stuff. I couldn't live up here without alcohol!
have et 4 from the corner -- anyone know what the other one is?
et5
... et5/12
had a batch of american in my bar when i ran it,and the first thing i would do is set up a tray of molson xxx brand (7.2%) and shots of canadian mist hehe
griff nice to see you again
we have the distillery right here in town.reminds me,been ages since i have done barrel wash...
You too TO. I'm headed out for another cup of coffee, with something in it - you people are such a bad influence. Back later with 55 to go.
... drove to Vegas with a case of "Fin Du Monde" in the back ... 9% stuff from Quebec ... made lots of friends at the motels along the way
ty dos
the britts have this beer, cannot remember the brand, but it comes in half size bottles and is 22%
though these days i just sample the various vodkas from around the work.it is more than enough to get me in troubble
world
must run, happy babbling all bbl
and grey goose by the way is yuppie garbage sold in a fine looking bottle, better off with a premium smirnoff or some nice kettle 1
even some of the polish potato vodkas are nice
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1 636/7467/?ba=Edwin if you read, the one who talks about cherry cough syrup flavor has reviewed tthe wrong product. that is mad elf which is ery sweet cherry. ruRude lf is slightly spicy and crisp
500 lights on the tree, taking a break.
ca x5, ce, ci x4 -- missing?
i will give it a look see
wow, molly
go molly go! *pours moly a brandy, a shot and a rude elf beer*
though when i want something cherry,i get a good cherry whiskey for the wineskins when we go sledding
cherry does not belong in beer, that is just wrong.
Ooo, thanks TO. I have to do the tree in doable doses. It's not my favorite Christmas chore.
wow mollys here :P
rude elf has no cherry in it but its competitor does.
Oh shoot. Cos is going to throw a sprig of holly at me for saying I don't enjoy decorating the tree. *Ducks*
how tll is this tree which i assume is a livve one?
7 feet
lol, molly,we gave up on the big tree when our boy got older, now we have a pre lit,pre potter 4 footer and a small folding table for it.i yank it out of the box,mrs adds some bows and balls,i plug it in and we are done in under 10 minutes
lol it is my least favorite christmas activity so no worries -- the end result is worth it though
i am debating a small live one. would be first in 15 years.
easy decorating for me this year - being away from home -- 4' prelit tree with lots of baubles, wreath with 5 picks in it and a candle in the middle that was already on the coffee table, one large and 4 smaller poinsettas from costco -- took me all of 2 hours, shopping included!
my MIL uses a charlie brown tree.
when we used to live in our place with the vaulted roof,we used to bring 15 footers in the door!
I'm dreaming of becoming wealthy and hiring decorators. I would put on Christmas music and serve drinks and appetizers. And sit and watch people decorate my house.
how many lottery tickets did you buy?
ah....*sighs*
My countertops are in.
Quartz.
And I have "White Christmas" on and they are singing the Trif/Car "Sisters" song.
Very nice Kap.
yay KAP! you are brave, doing re7 at this time of year
thanks TO!
nice. i think i will go for either concrete or silestone. not worth quartz in my house but i like the look.
It's taken months and months. Ikea, yay. Not finished yet but getting there.
are you really into cooking, kap?
I am not into cooking AT ALL.
lol then it will be prstine for years to come, yes?
Just into not having splintered wood all over, and crumbling cabinets for 20 years.
Someone asked me who my contractor is. Well, I have a man in to do the work.
He lives here.
Husband cooks, doesn't keep things neat. I shouldn't complain.
He fixes toilets and electricity. I didn't marry money, I married home construction skills.
hmm, not sure if i would rather cook or clean up after cooking. neither i guess
Yay- neither!
kap: if you tranlsate that into $ you have done better! and no extra charge for emergemcy calls!
kap i have a cartoon i think you would like. i will rustle it up for an icon in the coming week.
And hardly any waiting period.
Upsides and downsides.
OK TO.
bye all
I cook and clean-up.. construction isn't my thing however.. I'm not safe with tools
I'm not going to start in with men and tools.
good idea
You can't trick me into it, either.
hubby is good with construction and cooking -- but requires a full time maid to clean up behind him
*that would be me :(
full time? wow
the man never thinks of picking anything up, throwing garbage away, of putting anything away
Is my husband living a double life and also married to you?
sounds familiar nan
Triple life.
lol
can anyone pretty please with a cherry on top clue the al5?
mine too.
Quadruple life. Don't have al5 yet.
how many points cos?
al 5/14
first letter of the hebrew alphabet.
Oh, yeah- duh
if it started with E, would be the beginning of a very large gray animal
beer + dipthog
*dipthong
berr + beginning of tele**one
and mixi wins the cherry.. thanks everyone
beer that is
wondered what you were drinking ru
I hate beer actually..
me too
time to get going for the day -- hear sounds coming from the bedroom -- bbl
I can't stand the taste
and good morning everyone
what kind of sounds nan?
good morning flosey too
ap7 anyone? for an extra cordial cherry?
ap + a rush or crazy word without the c
ends with nervous twitch
hmmm
got it thanks!
crazy word did the trick
lotsa cherries floating around here lately
it is christmas.. cordial cherries have replaced fruitcake as the obligatory gift.
i'm stuck now.. may have to list
fireworks.
wtg mixi
wtg mixi
ugh fruitcake
the most horrible stuff there is
i was at wal-mart last week and the guy in front of me in the cashier line had like 10 fruitcakes he was buying
oh jeez
and it was the wal-mart brand too
I like fruitcake. (says quietly) (ducking all fruitcakes that are being tossed).
It is possible to make good fruitcake (I have done it) but it is also very easy to make very bad fruitcake.
*throws fruit cake*
and I finally monkeyed a word from the left middle e and now have nbt. Must be breakfast time!
our last fruitcake was a doorstop
i remember one episode of the golden girls they donated all of their fruitcake to a church christmas charity dinner and ended up with more than they originally had
and yay mixi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wtg sue
picking up fruitcake and quietly leaving for a snack. ...
the 2nd de5/14 anyone? bueller?
de + the cold cubes put in drinks
ugh i tried that. thanks.. i may have mistyped it.
have done that too cos, and wondered why word wasn't accepted
like 2 days ago i tried a bunch of words and they weren't accepted.. then the next day they were.. once the list was up. weird.
very
but thanks again! that gives me 99 left.
yw
need more coffee, brb
I'm wondering how you fake the "what a wonderful gift" look when you open up a WalMart fruitcake.
by imagining the joy of hurling it at someone's window?
Excellent imagery Jes!!
I try :)
lol, try steaming it Molly, and serve with caramel sauce?
we use them as speed bumps in our neighborhood to slow cars down
a few years ago some store was running commercials after christmas for the post christmas sales and they were showing faces/reactions of people getting lousy gifts. it was hilarious
this old lady opened one and went.. huh..nice.
even the food pantries for the poor won't take fruit cake
last year we had to get food from the food pantry and they gave us fruitcake
it's still in our cupboard lol
chickens would eat it :)
we bake our own and it is very popular in Canada
we had friends going to CA for Christmas and going through the border, they wondered what it was, someone said, Oh, it's something they eat up there!
that's hilarious flosey
it got a lot of laughs up here when they came back
ep5 ?
ep + what Meryl Streep does on stage
be a ham?
thanks, flosey
thanks flosey
and does it well
i really want to see her new movie
yw cos, and I agree ru, she is so versatile
she's no anjelica huston but she's good :)
she is gifted
what is her new movie, cos?
oh god..
Angelica Huston had one great, great movie..
morning, ru
Meryl has had ten
hi jes
no wrong. Anjelica is my goddess
Meryl plays maggie thacter (sic) in "the iron lady"
oh.. I like her.. but
meryl has had her share of stinkers :)
true
upper left e - havethe et4
<--- went to high school with Meryl Streep (no kidding - she was a year ahead of me)
et5/12 kje.. and thanks for the et4
ty
et5 kje
my dad went to high school with bernie mac
who's bernie mac?
a dead comedian
he had his own tv show on fox lol
Uusue! I have an emergency physics question. When you talk about spin on fermions and bosons what does it actually mean? They don't really spin.... and what is a hald spin?
oh
yikes a physics question on saturday morning..
half spin
Is there a better time?
Hi, godt! let me see if I can explain..
monday morning? lol :)
hi kje
Egads! No!
"spin" of elementary particles (like fermions and bosons) is a quantum property, so any mental images we have of it are for entertainment purposes only :-)
she's not talking to us
q words.. have the qu5 odd and qu4 talk
hi all
this is why i love babble. there's always someone who can answer a question you can't ask your out of babble friends
oh my, better get moving, taking ham and scalloped potatoes to a pot luck at noon - haven't had breakfast yet
Why do we talk about spin?
qu5/16 and qu5/20
bbl -
2nd qu5 builds off the qu4
ok
gothaab, if you have a physics question ask uusue
however, we call it spin because it adds to the total angular momentum just as if they were really little balls spinning on their axes (which they are not)
By angular movement do you mean the direction they take when they collide?
shh school's in session and professor sue's talking/
mmmmm, not exactly
Then.....
angular momentum for big things is a measure of how fast they are spinning
kje is all business today
But they are not really spinning?
whee..crossy loves the brainy wimmens;)
conservation of angular momentum is what makes a skater spin faster when she brings her arms close to her body
ty
sorry - just preoccupied
crossy loves all the wimmens :P
:D
lol,howdy jes
love you all... blah...blah... blah... nothing personal, just preoccupied
he7?
and angular momentum is conserved in interactions of elementary particles too but only if we assign them "spin" so they have some internal angular momentum of their own
and I know that sue, am a big figure skating fan. The good triple jumpers are the ones strong enough to keep their arms pulled in when they are jumping
*wonders what crossie would think of bacon flavored women?*
not sure ruru,my mrs refuses to wear the bacon scented perfume
but as far as we know elementary particles are points, with no internal structure and no size, so it doesn't make sense to talk about them actually spinning
*suspects crossy would think "DELICIOUS!"*
LOL
I suspect he'd scrambled those eggs
So, we talk about them spinning but they really don't. We are talking about their internal properties?
yes, exactly!!!
So what is a definition of a half spin?
hep, relating to the liver
the spin 1/2 refers to the magnitude of this internal property, it's measured in units of Planck's constant
he 7*
excellent dual chat going here! what a well rounded group!
All elementary particles of a given kind have the same spin quantum number, an important part of the quantum state of a particle. When combined with the spin-statistics theorem, the spin of electrons results in the Pauli exclusion principle, which in turn underlies the periodic table of chemical elements. The spin direction (also called spin for short) of a particle is an important intrinsic degree of freedom...wow..crossy just hurt his brain...
*what would preoccupy a doctor on the weekend?
did you make that up crossy?
nope
I feel really stupid right about now
how could i possibly make up a mess like that?
this grid is tough for me today... kinda annoying
well, I was going to get to the spin and statistics more slowly, and only if that was part of what godt wanted to know :-)
LOL
How does the Pauli exclusion principle relate to the periodic table?
depends on the doctor ru... this one's preoccupied with finishing modding the My Little Ponies for christmas :)
you are amazing indeed suze:))
Statistics, hmm, I don't know. I can make sense of the Pauli exclusion principle.
stupid... exceptional.... take your pick
whoohoo! thermometer just rolled up into double digits! heat wave :)
particles with spin 1/2 have to be in different quantum states - this means that if you have more than one of them in an atom they have to have different properties
25 degrees here. practically a sorcher compared to last week
lol jes,we are at minus 3 c
how about exceptionally stupid?
so when you keep adding electrons to atoms they can't all have the same energy - hence different energy levels and orbitals, and the periodic table
Ah...
ah...
i wasn't going to say that as I am suppose to be acting nice.... but....
bless you godth
we are -12 C, crossy; just warmed up to 10F
particles with integer spin, like photons, you can put as many in the same state as you want - like a laser, which is a whole lot of photons in exactly the same state
i'm better at chatting about bacon than spinning particles
lol,i just learned more in 5 minutes that in every science class i ever took
Ok, thanks. I needed that.
mmm,spinning bacon particles
I'm better at eating bacon
65 degrees here today jes
I get the bit about photons....
yw, godt, hopefully everybody else has survived the discussion :-)
barely :)
trying to make my head stop spinning. woke up yesterday and the ceiling was going round. lol.
sunny
clear skies
I lost you a long time ago
and then, there are the neutrinos, and they are giving scientists a huge headache...
bet our trees look more christmassy than yours, ru! All frosty and white :)
vines are turning red and gold.. the harvest is over
ha, don't get me started on neutrinos, I did my PhD dissertation on them!
I must confess though, that when I went out to feed the horses, I just pulled jeans on over my pajamas instead of changing... yay layers!
Yes. But stayed tuned. I hope you can answer some more physics questions later. I don't know many (read:none) physicists.
Yes, but I bet you'll have to update it
10 is cold
What was you hypothesis?
anyway, godt, write me at uusuzanne at yahoo dot com if you have more questions - I will be in and out
a bit, yes, ru :P
top a.... have ac5 and ap4
OK. Thank you!!!
neutrinos sound like a breakfast cereal
ap7 i think
yes. its ap7
ok
and breakfast is here complete with bacon, so bbl!! :-)
kina neat having our very own physics prof:))
ap + most of the crazy word less a c

thanks anyway!
i must leave you all and go tame wild tourists, but before i go,here is the staggeringly popular crossys tidbit of the day!!
The tune to “The Star Spangled Banner†originates to the tune of an old drinking song,â€The Anacreontic Song.â€
good luck with the tourists, crossy

they are actually not as bad as expected
i'll take your word for it! just starting on them:)

Hi. Congrats Bubba.
Hi
here too - still looking for re words:)
grats bubba!
yay bubba!
thanks
Are you Bubba the orthopedist, or another bubba?
I'm here Scrabs
That's me
I haven't seen you here in a long time. Doing well?
I'm here too! Hello everyone
Doing good. Just busy, no time for chatting, just lurking and typing words
Hi Trif, bubba
hi bichon, trif, scrabs :)
Well, we have quite a party here.
hello. does anyone have the count for the lower i?
EHR has made me crazy, more work, less down time
id4
id4,6
Yes, we started in May '10. It has increased the amt of time I must do charting. And I still have more to learn and do. I finished the website for our practice so now I must set up my templates for EHR.
ehr?
Electronic Health Records?
Templates really help, but still a lot I have to add
Electronic medical/health records, so EHR or EMR
sweet jehosephat! That id was rIDiculously tricky for me today...but thanks all - nbt!
ah
Electronic health records, mandated by our do nothing congress, so at least everyone has more work
yay trif :)
But we have to do more work with EHR--creating a Clinical Visit Summary at the end of every visit. And then some kids need their school PE forms completed.
What I need to do in a 15 min visit really would take 45-60 min if I want to educate a kid and parent.
One of the meaningful use criteria is that all patient who are seen for an office visit 99213, etc, are required to receive a visit summary, even if they don't want one. A waste of paper and time for the office staff and physicin.
I was just told by our ofc manager that my only "fail" with "meaningful use" is those visit summaries.
I don't finish notes until lunch hr or in the evening at home.
I have already certified my juse, but it still requires that you do this seemeingly endless paperwork.
I am always taking home charts.
maybe they don't want it...but i'm a HUGE fan of giving people written summary and instructions, so when they call back a month later having not done a thing I told them to, they can't say I didn't give them the info! :)
when did you start EHR?
January 2011, certified in April 2011
It also helps when someone other than the mother brings the kid to the ofc.
The best result of EHR is not having to decipher my partners' handwriting.
I always wrote my note while seeing the patint, now I just take notes and do the note into the EHR between patient, at lunch, at home, inthe hospital, wherever.
Interesting conversation to come in all, most doctprs/specialists here all swing round to their computers at the end of the consultation. Also handy as one of the places I go is a clinic so don't always seem the same doctor
hi lynxxx :)
sorry about all the typos
Morning Jess and all
I find it is much easier to review a chart, then to reveiw notes in an EHR.
I find the computer distracting during the visit--I am trying to do what I need to in the computer and fix typos and make eye contact with kids and families.
Bottom A and R are finally grey. 100 to go.
I feel the same, the computer distradcts me from peaking to the patient. The patient feels that one is distracted if they are typing while they are speaking.
peaking =speaking
we don't have computers in the exam room...i put things in afterwards. I type pretty quickly though.
Yep, so I write notes on paper and do work at home. I would rather move along with patients than finish my notes between patients and have the families wait.
Not meaning to be rude but is it an age thing too? Younger ones are brought up with the computer as their right hand whereas us older people find it more alien. Mind you I have been using PCs for some 30 years and am old myself
Due to the requirement ot send Rx's electronically, I must use the computer in the treatment room.
I have not felt like my dr was ignoring me for the computer when i've been at clinics that have them in exam rooms though; any more than I would if they were looking up/making notes in a paper file anwyay
I did not take typing/keyboarding but I am pretty fast.
I'm sure it is a generational thing. But good notes, that are handwritten or dictated I find to be more complete then computer generated notes. Computer notes tend to be more of the copy andpste kind, when applicable, because it is faster
I react the same way too Jess, not an issue for me either
heh. my handwriting SUCKS, bubba. my computer records are often more complete and legible :)
The computer notes, because they are based on templates, seem so generic. Written or dictated notes seem more specific to THAT patient.
so4 x 2, so5 x 2 , so6 and sm4--what am I missing?
Our government is also talking about centralised medical records as well - I think that is a great idea.
My hospitals are now completely computerized. Even the clinics have computers on stands that are wheeled around to each room. Things change, I guess we will see if it is for the better or not.
I don't usually use templates. And I've seen some REALLY interesting things in dictated notes...
There are MANY benefits to EHR but the learning process is a pain.
I know the people typing the dictation are supposed to be trained in medical terminology, but... it can get scary/laughable what gets printed out.
Haha, Jes, templates can generate errors, such as incorrect anatomical descriptions for the patient's gender.
A website has a very funny list of things that have been written in charts, intersting, funny but scary
It has been snowing all day here--big fluffy flakes slowly falling.
sounds pretty, scrabs. cold and frosty here, but no snow since Thanksgiving
It is beautiful and when I was walking earlier I heard the hum of the snow-making machines at the ski resort across the valley.
2nd re5/12 please?

I have found 179 words. Now I de 4/6 it necessary to do a story of clues. I will be an ai 5/12 and ai 4/5 you with a story of clues. Before becoming an ESL teacher, I had various other jobs that did not last too long. When I was in high school, I worked in a de 4/5 and did not make a he4/6 of money. I tr 5/12 to convince my boss, da 4/5, to give me a raise, but he didn't so I quit. When I was in college, I worked for a ca5/12ing company. However, I got into a he 6/24 argument with the boss and I was te 4/5inated.After that job,I worked for a vacuum cleaner company where I had to go door to door and provide de 4/6nstrations on how to use a vacuum cleaner&all of its very fancy eq5/18ment.I ha5/14 the job and only did it for a month. After I graduated from college, I became a mo5/14 for about a year. However,I couldn't handle the fast pa 4/6 of the fashion industry. I had a job working for a tr4/4 company as well. The guys thought it was we 5/20 having a girl work with them. I was called names like we6/33 so I quit. Now I'm ti4/5 so going to go take a nap. I will be back so4/5 time later on when I'm more wi4/9 awake to help out with clues if anybody needs it.
See you all, good to chat with you. Going to see War Horse at Lincoln Center, so got to get ready. Bye

Hi people.
who here is good at advocating for yourself in small workplaces? I work with a very small nonprofit that is often unclear about what they pay us "consultants" for.
I sent an e-mail- not angry, asking for clarity, and have felt terrified all day about having asserting myself.
hi Kap - I bet JMC could advise you
ohh, i think jmc would be the gal to ask
Is JMC here?
Haven't seen her as yet
doesn't look like it.
clue for the bottom I pls
I'm generally pretty good at advocating for myself, kap
id4/6
Hello new entrants.
I love the people I work with and they have designed a neat program that is growing, but there is no compensation for things like staff meetings which are requirements.
do they provide lunch during the meetings, kap?
and the two people in charge sometimes can't figure things out between them
guess that's where you have to work those nonbillable hours into your contract or (gasp) increase your fees to compensate for them
Lunch????????????
ty!
there you go, yo could suggest they provide lunch at the meetings as 'some' compensation
I need a break as my eyes are going crazy. 68 left. Maybe I'll return later.
Contract needs to be in print! It isn't!
bye for now Scrabs
bye, scrabs, enjoy the afternoon
There is lunch once a month sometimes
Contract. A novel idea.
Hah. First step, get a written contract!
if you're contract, you're not really 'staff' - so those hours should be billable (especially if you're contributing directly to the meetings)
again, jmc will be able to advise on contracts
educational training = billable
I am pretty sure that if the meeting is required, they are required to compensate you somehow.
business related phone calls = billable
I was going to say that if they are providing lunch, they may be considering that compensation, but if they aren't doing that... i got nothin
stopping off for coffee and saying to the server, "this is a work meeting" NOT billable :)
lol - did you try on that one Welki
(although i know lots of people who'd disagree with me on the last non billable statement *LOL*)
no, i never would. i'm the one people come to with those ethical questions
hell, get this - this;ll show you how stupidly moral i am;
bought a new truck yesterday. it's broken already (a brand new truck)
There is a culture of "expecting" volunteerism- because we are a small group of likeminded and creative clinicians - sometimes a little too much groovy and not enough clarity.
manager apologizes, offers a full tank of gas (worth more than $100) - okay, that's fine
the salesman gives me the chit for the gas. i see the manager today - he tells another guy to get me the gas chit - i say, 'no, no - james already gave it to me'
groovy don't feed the bulldog, kap
so, if i won't cheat a car salesman, i wouldn't cheat my employer :)
many people would have shut their mouth so kudos to you
I don't cheat anyone- but I don't know if I am letting myself be cheated- all with good intentions
(but it sucks to have a brand spankin' new truck - and not be able to drive it! they gave us a loaner, though)
i suppose jm could advise you - even if you can't bill for the time, maybe there's some sort of tax category for uncompensated services
I'd ask for a written contract, kap. With all job requirements and compensation in the contract.
We're just about a dozen people.
I think I need that now.
(and i wasn't inferring you were cheating anyone, kap - sorry if it came across that wayO
So? I've got only a dozen employees. I have a written contract with myself as employer to employee! :)
just to remind you that you need to keep yourself in line, jes? (hehehehe - just kidding)
I know you weren't.
:)
I don't have a written contract with everyone--mostly that's a hold-over from prior owner though, who only did contracts with doctors, not with any other employee, even the licensed techs.
If you are feeling that way Kap, perhaps others are too...You would probably be doing the whole group getting some sort of agreements in place
that's right! my boss is a cranky bi5! wouldn't wanna piss her off! :)
i'm thinking that, on a bad day, you could fire yourself, maybe have a long weekend - and rehire yourself on monday
you Jess?! don't believe it
hahah!
*listening through the crack in the door* Jes! You Bi5!! You're fired! Get your stuff and get out of here!! -------- in same voice! "Fine! Take your lousy job and shove it where the sun don't shine!!" **SLAM**
Oh, there's been days, welki, that I wasn't too far off from that! :)
fast forward to monday - "Jes? Is that you? Glad you came in." "Thanks, Jes - was wondering if you'd consider giving me my job back - I really miss it, feel like I've let the animals down..."
Jes: "Fine, you're re-hired. And one more thing. You get a 25% raise, starting immediately and retroactive to the first of this year"
Jes: "Thanks, Jes - promise I won't let you down."

hi dianne
hi dianne.
oh no, i am on the de words!
KCMO doens't have public transit?
The MTR (underground) here is great - clean, safe and fast.
they do, but not to where i work in Kansas
my little burg is just getting into mass transit. the busses don't run on a regular schedule or route, but if you call, they'll tell you when a bus Might be going by your house or a pick up point.
i as going to say, Jen, i thought KC had mass transit...may not be very safe, but a city that big...
Our public transport is crap
i live in a suburb of KC
my in-laws live in independence, belton and some other town in that area.
i live in Belton!!!!!!!!
oh my! i grew up in belton!
LITTTTTTTTTLE
hi shelly!!
don't live there now though
hey lilbit
hey herin! hi jen!
littlebit!!!!!
hey lbd!
you know me!!!
i thought so!
funny!
why is your flag that one??
hahaha
in honor of my fave mexicna restourant here...rancho grande!!
you silly, you don't know where you live!!!
study your states!!
hahaha
back in a bit, need some tea
ok, ibd
how many words do you have littlebit?
that's so funny jen! i never realized that was you for a while! hahaha
i have 120 to go
this is really the first i have seen you on here
i have 168 to go
i usually lurk...i've seen you a couple of times
and didn't identify yourself!
i didn't know it was you!!
did you see i paid off the car today?
yes i did! good for you!
but i have MO on my name!
i know, but i didn't recognize your cat!
lol
it is really my folks' cat, they call her my furry sister!
her name is Calico and she is a Manx, no tail
ah! see there. not being there anymore i can't say that i've seen her before :)
she's a pretty cat
Jen I was going to ask you if kitty was a Manx
she is, and so onery!
one more to go
go dianne!
go Diane!
good for you dianne!!
got it !
YAY!!!
whoooo hooooo DIANNE!!
woohoo!
thanks
We have a grey Manx in the neighbourhood
a stray herin?
No one of the neighbours. No idea who owns it
manx cats are good because they like to honor you with dead things!
bugs, mice, etc..
and we believe she predicts things
ugh, not my idea of a lovely present
when dad had his pacemaker put in 3/4 years ago, he realized Calico was "clingy" to him, she would sit on his chest and not leave his side and dad found out about the fact
then she did it to mom, which was very unusual because she is dad's cat, mom had triple bypass
Cats do have a sense something is wrong
yeah, when i came home from the hospital 2 1/2 years ago my cat looked at me for about 2 seconds, walked in the living room and sat on the arm of the couch. she knew i couldn't bend over that far! waited for me to come in there and pet her!
animals have that instinct...they just know things that we humans are to obtuse to understand.
when calico starts acting suspicious i always ask mom and dad if they are okay1
well, i'm back to lurking. jen, next time i see you on here i promise i'll say hi!! :)
okay!
when i came home from the hospital, i had to spend a week at my parents, Calico came in, took one look and walked off! she knows i am allergic to her!

((((crossy ))))
hi. mr p
hi pickles :)
hi's ur daughter doing, mr p?
i forgot i had started this grid, so better get cracking! it looks reasonable enough
she is still down and out with her recovery, but much happier that she has a friend over for the weekend to play guitar and sing and chat to. Her bestie, Kaylee... sweetest when they are together :)
school ends on Friday for 2 months, so will be less pressure on her, she can recover without school interfering.
hello my fellow babblers
hi mana5
youre the president?
clue for we5 please... 1st one
we+ farmer in the ***l
ah, thanks jes :)
re7's please?? or are they fishy?
re6,33 please? first one
the first re6/33 is re4 meaning repeat + **sh the car
re7/44 is get new gear
re7/36 is rebuild a room
see you tomorrow
thank you :)
bye, pickle
bye pickles
**sh the car? hmmmmm
ah, got it... uses the big value letter
how about capital of the US is **. D.C. ?
accidentally got the qu5... never seen that ending before!
yes jes, I was just thinking of my own recent stuff... bash, smash, crash LOL!
it's a new one on me. apparently it's the knotted strand method of keeping records, used by the mayans. so says doseffing
knotted strand method :) ok??
like a code; different lengths of string, with different sizes and spacings of knots.
I'd heard of the concept before, so it's at least theoretically possible I'd heard the word before, but... yeah. NOT one I just knew right off! :D
i am imagining a lot of string
so how are things in the great down unda?
storms, hail, humidity... the normal stuff 2 weeks before xmas :)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ commons/a/a7/Inca_Quipu.jpg a picture of one
and you...? any snow?
not since thanksgiving. been pretty mild until this week, now it's dropped down mighty cold.
was 8F/-14C when I went out to feed the horses this morning.
we'll probably get snow the week of christmas, if the last 2 years are true indications.
we had cold start to summer and weird weather. The heat will start up soon enough :)
I hear there's fruitcake in the penalty box for you :)
oh darn!! LOL! *trudges to PB*
heheh. just in case you didn't have that we word yet :D
hey! where is the custard!?
We have the grandson here again this weekend; noting the size of the grid and the fact that I'm just getting here for the first time today I'm guessing I shouldn't start as there's no way I'll finish tonight
hi nef :)
hi mrp! How are you doing?
hi nef
less than 2 hours.... hmmm. possible and plaudible if you do :)
someone must have had it already, mrp
i can help clue if you want, nef
i like cold fruitcake with warm custard... and a drop of Cointrea on it
ok, more than a drop... about 20ml
May I please have a clue for qu5-20? Thanks
ok thank nef... sunday arvo, stormy and perfect for a lay down and babble
add a vowel to the end of qu4
heh. there's a bit of difference between a drop and a shot, mrp ;)
it looks like a piece of art, that inca idea
cool, huh?
Thanks much, jes.
welcome :)
I'm still trying to figure out if I should chat or do this. I know if I keep the chat open, I'll chat and definitely won't finish. Is the grid tough (Inotice it's mainly 4 and 5 letter words
much easier than the last big one, nef
lots of 4 letters :)
okay, I've started. :-)
nef, as soon as you come across a we6 (strange one) ask for a clue, we can help
Hi mrp! :)
i am overlooking fishy stuff too!
hi neil :) long time no see
Check today's updates on profile... you can watch the recording of the GOP Debate livestream we just finished doing.
brb, apparently, i have to prepare dinner NOW or the asperger people in my family will have heart failure.
Yeah, but I'm a little busy here still and not staying.
ok neil, will go look! thanks!
Just here to update the profile.
got it already, mrp! Thanks. :-)
Profile pic is me less than half an hour ago, while commentating on mic over the stream. :P
About 15 minutes ago, I guess? Something like that. Just as we were wrapping up.
Hope you're ok there though... everything going alright these days? Getting better, I hope?
cute, neil!
Haha, hi and thanks, Nef.
mrp?
Oh that reminds me... went back to using my original Yahoo account after leaving it for a couple of years [had too many insane people trying to add or email me on that one], so I'll readd you to that, mrp. Ugh, have to go... hope to see/talk to you soon!
ok, Jamie Oliver recipe is in good use tonight! Got the marinade on the pork chops, next is to cut up the veges and do an open roast dish.... delish!
pears, parsnip and potato... perfect with pork! P's are done too! :)
oh, and parsley bread pudding on top :)
UNO !!
i think the secret to the parsley bread topping is to cover the dish after it has been browned! Then pour the topping on and grill it till browned so you get a wonderful crunchy coating, with delicious marinade/sauce underneath. It is just so flavoursome and easy!! You can taste every single thing in the dish with every bite! Break up the dish with Elizabethian carrots and beans if you like, but prefer the single bake with a nice Savignon Blanc Semillon to chase it down
what are Elizabethan carrots mrp?
hi bugs :) carrots made with honey essentially. some people like to add cumin or a spice that they like... it is simply steamed carrots with honey, roasted for a short time.
It must have been Queen Elizabeth I that loved honey
sounds great
I am not much of a cook but a great eater
The King was in the counting house, counting out his money... the Queen was in the parlour, eating bread and honey... I wonder where that rhyme came from!
not QE I
LOL bugs!! aren't we all!! I love to do gourmet dishes and it is kind of 'desired and expected' on a Sunday evening. My son looks at me like a ravenous beast the whole day, wondering what I will cook
oooh, which queen?
any hints for my last word re 7
It is always a special trip to the market on sunday
re7 - ta5 again... rerecord?
rerecord old school... past tense
got that one. must be more specific then....
it is re 7,44 after the fishing rod part
ah
re + eq5.... stock up again ?
that is it. Thanks mr p I am done now
Oh, forgot to log out of here. :P
sorry, I just read 'last re7' :)
how are you getting on
So hi again briefly, mrp. :)
on ya bugs!!
[I'm not home right now and lots of silly people around me... enough confusion.]
ok bugs, very slow day here, which I like... waiting for xmas and hoping it will be nice for us :)
hi again neil :))
Hi again mrp... and also bye, for now. Take care and hope to see you soon. :)
have to find some funds for the kids. The car accidents that Lickety had have put us into even more financial crisis!! isn't that always something before xmas?? He is fine, but the meds he is on did not fair well at all! He has stopped them now and can drive again
see you soon neil!! enjoy the crowd and the fun!!
tell the silly people I said HI!
don't worry too much mrp. Kids are pretty good with lots of little cheap things. My kids were great when we were far below the poverty line
I am kind of depending on the in-laws coming through with money for the kids for xmas. They understand otherwise
I must be off to make gingerbread cookies and rumballs so they can season well before eating. Nite
rumballs! oh yum!!
nite bugs... enjoy!
I will leave some in teh penalty box for others
God bless
ap7 please?
and you too bugs :)
hi une!!
hi!!!
ap + it is **c*** (very busy) around this time of year!
thanks!!!!!!!!
yvw :)
