good afternoon, Babble friends
Thanks - got it
Hi sprite.... yw gran
hey Karys :)
oh lovely, that pillowcase of flosey!
it is awfully quiet in here, lol
hello dear friends
Good morning. Heading out to the bus. BRB
What do you meeean "auror" isn't a word? JK Rowling has some 'splaining to do!
Poor Sprite. Knockin' around in the chat log all by her lonesome. Never fear! I am here with coffee and croissants!
oh, samantha, I am so with you! I always try that one. and endor, and dalek....
morning miss molly!
Good Morning Trif. If I had a hundred dollars for every word Rowling made up, I could retire.
SHE certainly has!
And made up oddly. I mean, really, now, the killing curse is "abracadabra"? *snicker*
not exactly! it's turned inside out and letters flipped
Close enough, close enough. But I'll stop now, lest I be accused of arguing with success. :)
She really took a page from Roald Dahl (Willy Wonka...gobstoppers) with all the made up words.
lawd, girl, you are allowed an opinion1
Roald Dahl made up gobstoppers? I. Did. Not. Know. That!
I like "muggle". that's a pretty awesome word
james barrie made up "wendy" for peter pan
There's a long tradition of making up names for women in books. That's where we get Pamela too.
I didn't know that!
SamanthaJoy and rbud have the same icon. I get identity confusion when that happens.
hi all
hi carlee
supercalifragilisticexpealidotious
It was a mediocre 18th century novel, yeah, but at the time it was a best seller.
hi trifs
"Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded"
lol!
Upton Sinclair did a satiric update- it was very fun. Esp if you have a taste for Upton Sinclair, which I do- having devoured all the Lanny Budd books
Trif, by the way, that is not true about Barrie making up the name Wendy. Look it up.
okay molly. sorry. I had heard it was accurate. enjoy the PB!
ahhhhhhhhhh- to thine own self...
Sinclair did a satiric update of which? We're covering so much ground here I can't keep up!
peter pan..tinker bell was a slut attending orgies...and wendy was seducing peter....
tr4 dat. I will be making breakfast in the PB. I will spare you the 5000 word description.
Um, okay. Uh, interesting take on Peter Pan, I guess.
Pamela- or virtue rewarded. It would have been prescient of him to update Harry Potter- although he did believe in esp.
Hmm. I'm thinking I'd like it better than the current versions.
read it molls... i can grab my copy and quote it
WHAT carlee?
okay, it seems barrie popularized the name, but did not, in fact, coin it. learned something today!
I've read the book Carlee. Never quite gleaned that from it.
It seems that so many people have forgotten that Tinkerbell was a murdering little *!^$#; Disney's destroyed Peter Pan for me. I need real drama in my children's tales. :)
probs brought to you by the same people who are CONVINCED that Diana and Anne were full blown lesbians in Anne of Green Gables
just scanning it..just a sec
I have to do some re-reading, I see.
I'm starting to wish there was a "Like" function for comments in the chog. :)
Oh and there are actually college courses taught on the sexual undertones of all the Grimm stories. Whatever floats your boat.
In the original Grimm stories, I never so much thought of them as UNDERtones.
ugh. casey anthony is on my tv....please, just go away
Who?
Give her the evil eye, Trif.
I would, but my mom would kill me!
" after time he fell asleep, and some unsteady fairies had to climb over him on their way home from an orgy. Any of the other boys obstructing the fairy path at night they would have mischiefed, but they just twaeked Peter's nose and passed on."
morning, all!
( end of chapter 6 "the little house"
Hi uusue! Welcome home!
hmmmm ...I wonder what "mischiefed" would have entailed?
hi, car!
welcme back, uusue!
oooh, snap car!
Well that all depends on your definition of orgy. "unrestrained indulgence in any activity". I seriously doubt Barrie was referring to sex.
thanks, trif!
uusue...I TRULY enjoyed all of your photos from your trip! It is an area of the world I would love to visit, but know that it is very unlikely that I will get there. I am VERY much into history and such, so I was so excited to "see" it through your lens.
Possibly it was an orgy of violence. Wasn't Fight Club based on an unpublished barrie manuscript? ;)
glad you liked them, car! It was an amazing trip. My son is now studying Hebrew and wants to go back.
and now I must run - meeting all morning and I am still recovering from a very nasty cold...bbl!
the only part they got right in disney about tinkerbell was her costume
Good morning Carlee, Molly, Kaplan, Samantha...and anyone else I missed!
Hallelujah
there are several little "seduction scenes" tinkerbell constantly shows jealousy toward wendy...wendy is "the other woman" . one of the themes is sexual maturation in wendy..she can grow up...whereas peter never will
And, of course, the attempted murder. It's really a pretty awesome story.
grimm books are very cool..and most of htem were written about "growing up" was an easy way for parents to have the "sex talk" and warn their children about protecting their virtue
tonnes of violence..PP is NOt a children's story really
I did a paper once in school about the overtones of drug use in Alice in Wonderland....wasn't too hard to do though! LOL!
we are doing alice this week car.ee i still have 4 chapters to go
Yep, you can take many stories written for children years ago and dissect them to death. It's been done for years.
Not to mention Lewis Carroll's "love" of children...ewww...
Oh and questions still remain whether barrie was a pedophile... he ended up raising 4 children whom he obsessed over and once 2 of them reached adulthood they committed suicide
but that was how lessons were passed on to children..most times the people who told the stories were illiterate.. and they told these stories around the fire both for entertainment and to teach...
Molly, in this case, it's not dissecting, it's plain text. Tinkerbell tried to kill Wendy out of jealousy. It's just that it got left out of the Disney version and subsequent movies, so a lot of people don't know it.
the today show is doing a report on how often moms lie to kids....
we lie the entire month of december
Some lies are completely necessary, depending on the child's age....
little red riding hood is clearly a warning to young girls to be wary of "wolves"...else they will consume them...
its no different really than the imagery in the lion the witch and the wardrobe being christian allegory...
brb
I love dissecting books. There is so much more to them than just the outer layer of the story. Very cool.
Nor any different that those who claim the Harry Potter books are about the occult and Devil worship. Everyone is entitled to their take on things. I just find some of them very strange.
its fun..i like digging too...
But, alas, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar!
the harry potter books i dont think has any occult or devil worship in the form of allegory..they use witchcraft as a setting to tell a story of maturation in a tradition quest format
true enough car.
Yes Car, sometimes it's just a big fat cigar. : )
Stats please for the single A in the right column?
NM! Just got it!
but i can see the fundamentalists who take everything litterally and see no allegory as presuming harry patter is teaching kids to believe and follow in witchcraft and occult
They said the same thing about Star Wars if I recall.
I LOVED the History Channel show they did on the story of Star Wars and all the famous books/stories it rlelates to.
none the less digging is fun... i had a blast with my religion course taking a passage of religious text and delving into it to find the allegorical meanings...was st. thomas aquinas who developed the 4 stages or levels of thinking that is applied reading
Close reading of text is fascinating, but it's different if there is some historical context, rather than idiot paranoia. Do you remember when Tinky Winky was revealed as a gay icon?
Oh lordy yes, I'd forgotten that. How funny.
Because of his (I'm presuming "his") purse and lavender triagle headpiece.
so had I ..that was funny
I had never made the connections in the Star Wars saga, so it was fascinating for me.
i didnt like star wars
All the freaking Teletubbies were gay for goodness sake!
Neither did I, but I recognized the story as a collection of powerful archetypes.
my daughter liked lala
OK, they were.
That whole show was just a bad drug trip.
tinky winky tinky winky- yes, psychedelics.
good morning everyone:0
I stumbled upon the episode of them pulling a string or something like that out of one of their butts. From then on, I "knew".
i saw it when it came out..i was about 12...i hated it and i have not watched any since
Good morning Crossy!
The teletubbies were a collection of powerful archetypes????????????
Powerful..no.
gm, everyone. anyone have the stats for the lone A in 5th column or lone E in the 3rd column?
ad 5/14
LMAO, I think we crossed the streams in there somewhere.
maybe if i watched it now..i would likely see it..but i cant bring myself to do so...on my reading list we had the hobbit...i never liked tolkien...i sat down one day to try to read it... couldnt...prof knows I hate tolkien...i answered all the hobbit quiz questions with mickey mouse...and i will for the exam
en 6/21
morning crossy
ty, car! found them both! nbt!
Yahoo~!!!! Way to go Dawg!
you will toss the exam only because you do not care for tolkien?
yay dawg!
tolkien is 1 of 25 novels we have to read..and the prof doesnt believe in exams...at best i will toss 5 marks on tolkien
the big essay questions will apply to common themes in childrens literature not specific facts on specific books
like..compare and contrast using examples of 2 authors of common fairy tales the tools they use to convey the lessons they seek to teach
carlee....did you still the exam?!?!?!?
so you could do grimm and perrault
ide
What is considered a fairy tale in this class? Would Pratchett count?
no..u can figure out what the essay questions are going to be just listen to the themes
we ddi not cover pratchett perrault, grimm,
we only did one week of fairytales
you could compare aschenputtel and cinderella or sleeping beauty...
they both have their own versions...
Help with the Z's please? i only have ze 4/9.
baba yega!
zo4 and za4
anyway..time to toddle off and get ready to drive in... have a good day all
za5?12 and zo4/9
Bye carlee! Have a GREAT day!
Zo 4/9 rhymes with another common babblet to4.
bye carlee
za4.12 is what Pinky often says (Pinky and the Brain)
Za 4 rhymes with an ascot.
Got the zo...
got the za!!! TY!
Phweew- my cat farts smell bad.

I'm sure someone with too much time on their hands has written a scathing essay on hidden sexual agenda in the Dick and Jane readers too.
I'm still having trouble with the lone ad6.
"Dick"...there 'ya go.
It is ad 5/14...french for good bye
I could've said "ad5, carlee" instead of "goodbyem carlee"
Molly, there is a really bad illustration that says "Jane likes Dick." You brought it up...
lol molly, many do not realize that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and have to hunt for agendas, hidden meanings and conspiracies in everything.my brother is like that
Dick was probably always running because he had just gotten back from an orgy.
co 5/16 plz start of the c 's
tee hee. Kaplan said "dick" and "up"!
Ooh Crossy! I said the "Cigar" thing earlier! Brain waves!!!!!
Good gawd, Carlee. Freud is everywhere.
lol! i am channeling car!
and jack and jill! do not get me started!
OK...I shall stop now.
I'm okay with people having their personal take on such things. Not sure about paying people to teach it on a college level and asking people to pay to take the course.
seems funny indeed
Morning Ivesy! The first co 5/16 that I have is the P/T of the co 4/6 before it.
"jane likes Dick." But does Dick like Jane? (heroin/heroine- a double entendre.)
morn car.. ty

This is getting too intense.
i need more tea is we are going to dissect dick and jane
We could take it back to the teletubbies if you like
Help with the right column N please? I have the na 4/7.
and what is wrong with the teletubbies, other than the tubby toast and the psyco vacuum?
At least we know Barney was not salacious.
<------- Barney is repellant to me!
Tinky Winky- lavender triangle and purse. newt Gingrich said he was gay.
Beats me. I never watched them, as i'm childless. But rumor has it they were indoctrinating the children into a homosexual lifestyle.

Plus it endorses hallucinogens.
Speaking of which, I am going to go and tke some mescaline.
We really, REALLY need "like" functions for the comments on this chog. :)
And let's not forget the postman, Mr. McFeeley or "Mr. McFeelMe"!
lol,i still have acid flashbacks from the 70,s
Yeah, and a rating system.
what does it mean when i can recite the script of every warner bro,s cartoon fromm 1955 to 1985 but cannot remember where i left my car keys?
The true subversive tv shows were Soupy and Sandy Becker. I have posted lins before- you have to watch Sandy Becker doing Hambone to understand how a whole generation turned to acid.
Go to you tube.
It means your priorities are just fine, dear.
It means your car is not that important.
Ooh Kaplan! I think I will do that whilst on break today!
Crossy, it means ...well, I don't know- I'm the sme wy. I would say it's age but I've always been this way.
Or it just means that your short term memory is shot but your longterm memory is still pretty decent.
I love the "whilst"- and you're not a Brit?
OK...so no help with that N, eh?
oh- which?
Crikey no!
Right column. I have the na 4/7
so..if i leave my keys always in the same place, ten years from now when my mind skips back a decade i will find them then?

I am off to get some work done. I wish you all a fabulous day! {{hugs}}
I liked the book very much. But some of the things it makes you consider about time travel are mind bending.
it will be nice to see a new take on it
I will read it when I get done with my Edna Ferber binge.
I am always about 80 years behind the trends. One reason I don't like book clubs.
does anyone have stats for the 8?
I am too quirky in my reading habits.
No, not yet.
i also do not go running for books that are the flavour of the month and sold in pharmacies
but i always keep and eye on what mr king is writing
even the good bookstores are very trendy- they have to survive I guess, but everything tht costs 30 bucks will be a dollar in a year.
yup
I prefer early 20th century. Dos Passos' USA trilogy and Manhattan Transfer. I like old movies too.
how many words today?

hey all, taking a few minutes before I go back and volunteer some more at the local school... hope you are all having good days!
hi stid
hi stid. How are you doing? Volunteering?? what's going on?
I took today "off" from subbing, Nef, so I could observe a friend's resource room and meet with a man who has developed a wonderful remedial reading program. He is also giving a presentation at the staff meeting so I will go to that as well. I am applying to a job as well, so spending a little time on the resume and letter of interest today.
that sounds good! When I asked what was going on; I was wondering if the school was having a special event (ie: science fair, lyceum, etc). I did ssound very nosy after I re-read that. :-)
LOL no problem -- I have friends at that school, so I often go volunteer there when I need to recharge and do a reality check on teaching practice and such.
how come defur isn't a word? We have to defur the cat (using one of those weird defurring combs) so that my allergies don't flare
that's nice you can do that, stid. Sounds like it's something you enjoy doing too. :-)
yep. I thought the same thing. Okay, need to go call the school I am applying to -- ask if they want me to drop a current resume and such by tomorrow, or if I should just stick with the online system...
I do enjoy my neighborhood school -- wish I had been able to get the job there (short commute) but it's probably better for me to be out of my comfort zone a little while longer. I still have a lot to learn, and don't want to get in a rut.
back in a few.
having been raised by a teacher (well, actually County Supt. of Schools); subbing is a great way to start out to learn how to teach in different styles
5 left! bbl to figure them out, hopefully....tough grid!
back... I called the district (it's a K-12 school) and tomorrow I will wander by with my resume and letter of interest in hand. I think... maybe my enthusiasm and reaching out in this way will give me a foot in the door. And if I like the school I can add it to my subbing list if I don't get the job... just in case!
and yes, I have subbed for many different grades and teachers now so I have a bigger repertoire of ideas and strategies. I feel much more confident when I walk into a new classroom these days.
Good for you stid! will keep my fingers crossed

i dont kid myself i know he can slip at any time, but i have learned to accept the way things are.
I guess it isn't a local brand here
tare
ivesy, that's a big learning curve for you. Congrats.
ty.. keeps me sane, but i have to live it .no other way to survive
is tere a list out there.........?
is tere a list out there.........?
aeb, Molly and cybernan and VolleyMom have them
tyvm Nef!
My son was heavy into drugs in his late teens; I used Alanon at the time and then he had a car accident; was arrested for violating parole and sent to prison. He should have gone to minimum security, but it was full at the time and he was sent to maximum security at age 21. It scared him straight! He's now 33 and still has the felony charges on his record; but he's been clean ever since
My heart broke at the time; but looking back, it was the best thing in the world for him (maximum security. Tough love is hard; but very necessary at times
so u know what its like. ty for sharing.. its a livng hell but yes tuf love is hard. but mine knows, drugs and no mom... clean , i will give him support, but no money... just food... i didnt think i would survive this last time we are tougher than we think
Ivesy, I've had several family members go through this same dance with addiction. I know how heart breaking it can be. I think it is hardest on the parents. Bless you darlin'.
aww thks molly.. i have learned so much.. drug addicts dont care about family, only drugs. its all lies to get drugs. the online group im with is amazing. . and yes its the parents who are hurt
I've seen the hurt of spouses and children, but the raw hurt of the parents is what always gets to me the most.
becuz we always think we can help with one last try. but we cant.. and until i understood that, i was killing myself. now i know its up to jason. and only him. still hurts, but im better
Glad to hear you have a handle on things Ivesy. I will keep you and Jason in my prayers.
ty..
te 6 /21 plz
oops jsut got it...
ivesy,my Prayers are with you,and i do hope that he will get help and get well. mine didnt .
How do you survive?? It would be like loosing a child to death almost.
(((Yvo))))
Yvo, your daughter was beautiful. I'm so sorry you lost her.
I work with a lot of young people who are recovering from drug addiction- and their families- it's nice to see kids get better, and it sometimes happens. A lot of heartbreak along the way.
I'm glad you are there to help Kap.
sometimes love isn't enough. It's very moving when the young adults talk about what they did to their families, and how grateful they are for their love
That is the complicated part. So many of us think that "love heals all wounds". But in the case of addiction, sadly, love can get in the way.
There is a great stigma about addictions- the idea that people choose their path and deserve their fate- but the reality is so much more complicated.
it's so hard to learn that sometimes the best love is saying No. I've always tried to help my kids; to make them responsible for their own actions is very hard
I am glad finally to be working with a group of clinicians who don't hold punitive attitudes and negative stereotypes
While I believe that addiction is a disease, a disorder, a mis-wiring of the brain (call it what you want) I do believe that it's a choice every time they use.
Just came home from a parent-teacher conference- I I left my stupid purse in the advisodaughter's advisor's office
My family had a lot of alcoholics in the older generations, knowing that I should have been more aware of my son's using. But at the time I knew nothing about drugs or what to look for.
oh, no, Kap! DO you have to go back now?
It is arguable that it is a disease (what is a disease?), and here is the "choice" debate again--
I can't -it's closed
If there were no choice involved, there would be no alcoholics and addicts in recovery. They choose to use or they choose to stay clean.
Like I said this morning, some have greater mental health and life circumstances that help them with their choices. There but for fortune go you or I!
I wish it were that simple Molly. We might have to agree to disagree here.
bbl
Good evening, could some one give me the first two letters of the 8 and the 5 7's, please?
I will agree to disagree. I just don't think people have to live their lives as victims, being held captive by what happened to them in their past. There is always the choice to thrive.
er, fe and re 7....pe8 ....that's all I have so far Marc
"Some of us are stronger in the broken places"- Hemingwy, A Moveable Feast.
Of course some of us are stronger. I won't debate that. However, that doesn't mean those who struggle more with strength need to live defined by their wounds.

Hi TO
Thanks lynxxx and ida
Does anyone have a full list?
dee and molly have them in their profiles
I have just opened one on Volleymomdee
good evening babbleonia
Hi TOwl and all
hey all! looking like I am getting in at the right time...
hi joiners!
you know the night time, is the right time......
oh no, no list? I don't know if i have the strength for this
well, I got up to 40 words in about 15 or 20 minutes at lunch time doren -- but I am only just getting back
i have not babbled since sunday
gearing up for lent
wow TO! That's will power.
not really, s tid. i will be out somewhere all the time
I have Dee's list in my profile.
that makes it easier. I actually didn't babble a couple times the last week or so because I was really tired and went to sleep early. LOL
thanks molly
gave up fb last year, ty molly
thanks molly- but it seems to take twice as long at least when it isn't lickety... i haven't managed the knack quite right
just finished abrahamverghese'sfirst book
Oh I agree Doren, it's much easier with Lickety's list. And this grid is full of insane words. I found it to be a real headache and just quit a while ago.
did you like it owl? i think he's a terrific writer.. you read cutting for stone?
i already have a headache .. think this cold is settling into my sinuses and i'm miserable.. so i really want to be coddled
no i am wait list for that.i read my own country
yeah, filled with weird US spellings - that de6.48 looks like something you do to your legs
i don't do much to my legs... benign neglect (and blonde hair).. at least during the winter months
but did you like it owl?
geez so obtuse tonight
*coddles doren* chicken soup? tea? hot lemonade?
yes, doren. and btw saw girl w dragon tattoo
thanks stid.. all of the above!
posting for a friend: if you are so inclined, please go to this link + vote for Rev. Robert Hahn: http://www.governor.maryland.gov /blog/?p=3371
it is niceto see everyone though, i would miss you more than babble
ah, did you like that? was talking about it with friend last night, wondering how it would play for folks who hadn't read the book. btw, I saw it too and thought it was marvelous... very rare when I've read a book and liked it, to like the film too
then give up something else
if he wins, their church will win a $5000 grant from the state of MD, which they intend to use to help feed the hungry.
i agree!greatadaptation.
awork mate said he liked daniel craig better and the swedish girl better. i did think rooney mara was alittle cartoonish
are you talking about the original version or the just released american version?
help on the A in the middle row please? the far right. My last blank tile
done evaN. just released american lyn... saw both and liked both, but the american blew me away.. just didn't expect it to be that good
TY dorens. :)
french goodbye Stid
am trusting that what you say is true... cause i didn't read or anything on the site
merci, lynxxx! LOL I wasn't think in French today
Interesting Dorens, TY
dorens, honestly, i havent read the whole site myself. im trusting what my friend said is true. i do, however, believe this is just the semi-final round. i think there is one round after this...
okey doke. guess it didn't matter that i'm not in MD, rigt?
nope, no registration or anything necessary. just navigate + click!
yes i willvote if we can
good, cause i did click

hope you are better for long weekend
oh molly, i could just cry. i told my sister i want my mommy to come take care of me... she reminded me that the mommy when I was a kid and she's not the same anymore... last time she came to "help" when I was sick it was a disaster
thanks owl. don't even have long weekend... have all day workshop on monday that I must attend
oh, molly that sounds divine *makes little coughing and sniffling noises and tries to look pitiful* actually I need to stay healthy for a couple more days... have a chance to maybe meet the superintendent at the district where I want to get a job tomorrow... *sprays germ spray everywhere*
oh sorry to hear. molly that is so kind
oh doren... (((hugs)))
wow stid.... good luck!!!
thanks doren -- I sort of hope I really do get it -- will be small class sizes, a stable population (high poverty but a lot of the rural schools are) and a nice mix of "old and new" teachers.
what's the job? funny time of year... long term sub? maternity replacement? what grade.... etc
Everyone wants to feel taken care of when they are sick.
i can't make chicken soup. i only have these oatmeal choc chip cookies
i've never been known to pass up a good freshly baked oatmeal cookie (but prefer raisins to choc chips)
6/7 Humanities (my dream age/content area) teacher got a different job mid-year
doren, you and my mother would get along well -- she likes raisins in cookies too!
wow... that is too good to be true!
fresh out,sorry
<-----also loves humanities and 6th grade, but you can keep 7th
LOL well... it's pretty nice -- and it's in a location that is a little hard to get to, but not too far for me to drive so I am possibly an ideal candidate.
good luck stid.and lyn i am still looking for your clued word :(
well, 7th can be tricky, but so can 5th! LOL
thanks TO
and 7th can be very rewarding too, it is what I taught for years before going into counseling. but i always preferred the 6th
de6.48 to take the heat out of or to de**** a situation
*Puts a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies in the oven. Makes arrangements for grandkids to call and read GranDoren a good night story*
ty lyn
these days we can't be too picky... unfortunate that gas is so expensive, but long rides can be rewarding to some extent. play nice classical music on your way home and decompress, by the time you get home the craziness of the day is gone and you're ready to make dinner and deal with the home stuff
oh my molly... you really know how to make me happy
I really enjoy 6th graders, too. But except for my joint problems that make the littlest kids really hard I don't know that there is an age limit for me. I find each age interesting and challenging to teach.
Exactly, doren -- an hour's drive through a rural area is pretty good for decompressing. I have done longer drives in less favorable circumstances, for sure!
you are rare stid... most teachers i know can only handle elementary or middle school, and always wonder how their counterparts have the patience to deal with the kids they have
i personally don't have the patience for little kids anymore. I mean, i'm fine with them in my capacity as counselor, but couldn't deal with first grade all day long... would make me perfectly insane!
maybe that will be a selling point -- I have endorsements that actually make me eligible to teach at almost any grade level... I can teach all content areas through grade 8 if it's an "elementary" setting.
that will help, but your major selling point is yourself, your personality and attitude!
that said... I would not mind just focusing on the middle school kids. They need people who are too tough to scare off, who won't give up on them. And I am hard to scare.
why oh why do I keep trying aecia?
I would love to see you in my school. I think (from what i've seen here) that you have the makings of a remarkable teacher. But then again, from what people see here, they think i must be a marvelous counselor, and there are teachers in my school who would certainly differ with them!
aecia was here yesterday?
there is an island in the grid.propernoun
how come senora is a word, but not frau?
corfu
Doren, I would love to be in your school! :-) And yes, sometimes our words here are not necessarily consistent with our in-person experiences... or at least how others perceive us. But... I try very very hard to be consistent with my actions and speech. The only thing that I really can't do in reality is make soups and fancy delicacies...
Montreals hat is here too
Bless you Doren
isn't that strange, doren? I wish there were some internal consistency with enable
don't know that one lyn
did i sneeze?
*Passes Doren tissue in case she corfus again*
montreal -- hm. not beret, or greek fisherman's hat (that was BJ, right?), or a pillbox hat a la Jackie O....

would someone please write my resume and take an excel test for me?
gve my students their x-mas gifts today... had to miss their last session before break
i'll write the resume, but don't think i know much excel
no, molly, no... keep doing it
aw, don't catch cold
i know tons of excel i will take it
i want prefer to work.
i'm a-feared for the excel test. the most i use it for is to list stuff for the accountant.
fe7?
why do you need to take excel test dawg?
no, excelis wonderful
7? i was happy i found the fe6!
fe7 starts out like the weasle like critter first four letters + comumed
fe7 fe & dble cons & eat in the past

ty
doren, i am not sure i answered you , i liked the erghese book
fr6?
formulas areeary! if you go to the cell and type =, a dropdownlist will appearandyou can choose common functions

fr6, add not him but h** to the end of brother.
back... I wandered off and got distracted.
kj, i want chicken rice soup with dill. my bf said he'd make me chicken soup but i don't think he will follow that recipe.. maybe i can get him to add lemon and dill to his own recipe

you can do it Stiddy! we'll do this resume stuff together!
got it lbd... had screwed up thinking it was after the fr5 brother which really did not work
brb, need to get some tea
bring me back a cup please dawg
doren you can put the or4 in your chicken soup
yep. right now, my big question is: include references in the resume or not? they are actually duplicated from the references that are at the consortium where the official application was submitted.
thanks owl (didn't have it).. but for some reason i've never liked or4 and i don't know why
dorens.... only way to get food how you want it is to make it yourself... you should know that by now ; )
If I remove the references, I would have space to add some specific skills/experiences from student teaching.
we used pastina. coddling for us was sometimes pastina with butter
if they want references, they'll ask for them stid
yes k, absolutely, but i am feeling so crappy and it is nice to let him do stuff (he made up a butternut squash dish for dinner that just completely blew me away!)
thanks LA -- I think I will take them out for now then.
agree with LA, and you can always put in one line saing references available upon request (which is usually more than enough)
then lie in bed and let him bring you the soup he wants...stop your bitchin - LOL
hahaha
really!
he won't be home from his meeting till like after 10 pm anyway. so it will be for tomorrow
is this teh same guy you dumped awhile back, or a new one?
dorens- isn't it wonderful to have a man who cooks!
this is not the wine guy. this is a guy who doesn't drink at all (recovery, blah blah blah) and he doesn't cook all that often, i have to shame him into it. We have been together on and off for twenty years. he has his good points, to be sure, but some big problems as well. unfortunately, i love the big hunk
love is the best drug of all ; )
but yes mag, it is wonderful to have a man who cooks. just grumpily wish he did it more often, but uses my recipes. aren't i a b***h?
(not that I would know sittin here all alone and without soup)
Nah!
hey, i am sittin here all alone without soup too!!
lol!
good point
I'm kind of tired of this grid
and I have 15 to go
it is just the promise of soup, which couldn't materialize until past midnight. and i have had this cold since last friday, today is the first i have heard about soup, and the first time he's cooked (again, had to shame him into it) But then again, we are dealing with his peripheral neuropathy which is kind of extreme and very troubling right now
i have 43 and need to get serious about working with molly's list.. have been ignoring it
doren, I hope he feels better soon -- so he can pamper you!
wish i was there for you dorens,i have a batch of crossy,s home made beef barley in the fridge:0
or.... maybe you should just feel better soon
I am struggling with wording... doren should I briefly list some of the units I taught in 5th and 7th grades in this resume?
he needs better medical care... it's a long complicated story.
pe6?
cross, you could freeze it, and ship it to doren overnight express and she could have the soup for breakfast...
lol stidmama
but she wants chicken! with dill!!!
two schools of thought there stid... i personally like a one page resume... if you have the interview already, then you can get that stuff in at that time??
or she'll b*tch again
kj understands!!
if I was there I'd make that recipe for you, doren... it looked good
and I have the dill in my frig.. that's how much i want it. i dragged my sick body to the store on monday and bought beautiful fresh baby dill
I can do it in one page -- don't have an interview yet. Want to showcase myself as best as possible, since a long-term sub is now in the job and is listed on the school webpage (possibly a not good sign for me)
and a 1 page resume in my field is unheard of
stid, your college shouldoffer its serviceson resume writing
man, frsh dill is wonderful... almost as good as fresh tarragon
i'm going to show it to him and see if he'll at least incorporate some of the ingredients in his... seems fair
well, as a beginning teacher (but lots of volunteer experience) I have a somewhat short resume on the accomplishments side
TO, not enough time to mess with undergrads trying to grasp the nuances of fluency vs. comprehension in a literacy text (tried them before)
they specilize in just out of school - and you have been subbing
is that one page resume really feasible anywhere... once you reach our age?
your field is kinda different from teaching... and yes, then stid, put it in if it fits in one page
my they do not have dedicated career counselors>!
does sound like a good idea, doren -- maybe if you show him the ingredients he will find it easier to make soup that makes you feel pampered
this resume doesn't need to include other work experience, k, they just want to know about teaching i think
aa
pe6????? please????
don't make me whine!
one page resume's are a big thing, unfortunately curriculum vita don't fit that bill
no can do k, or you know i would
exactly -- and to be honest, parenting for 20 years means that the next most related experience was 19.5 years ago!

Ah, Doren has a big hunky male caretaker. I vote for one page resumes. Sincerely, those of us that read them are bored senseless with pages and pages of all about you. Keep it brief.
anytime.... I like to help
got it molly... *takes note: print resume on briefs*
our resumes are read by a robot
oh molly i take care of him more than he takes care of me i think. well, if you asked him it would be otherwise i guess
Yes, the lacier the better.
*wicked mama grin*
the one pagers are okay, but if you have a lot of experience, one page doesn't always do it. mine for instance takes at least 2 pages and that's just two jobs! teaching and counseling and all the duties that go with them.
Must go get kidlets from church! BBL to (hopefully) finish
lacy, but with some substance
bye mm
later, mags
I am assuming that I don't need to outline the basic tasks of teaching... or list every book and system I used as a student teacher. But I suppose I could include the online grading system, because I know the new district uses the same one
later magmom
honestly, I haven't seen a 1 page resume in eons...
okay, back again after a couple more changes...
only one pagers I have seen are from our students who have no experience
not in your profession, kje. that would be really scary!
no, I mean even for our secretaries, receptionist, etc
It only takes one page to tell me why you are qualified for the job.
I think a cover letter helps fill in the blanks, and then that could end up being rather lengthy too
i called him a big hunk? i meant a big lug!
agree with lbd about cover letter
lug.... hunk..... so close
Hunky lug will do. I'm glad he's good to you Doren.
how about a big lunk?
You rang?
hmmmm he tries molly, good in some ways, not in others -- and i like lunk! (rhymes with junk)

oh molly this opens a long long dialogue
well, that za is weird
It used to be a long dialogue for me. It's not any more. Don't settle for less than you are worth. That has become my mantra.
haha LA, you understand too> But not just any soup

*thinking of a man to send to doren's door with dill chicken soup*
molly, are you my age? experience changes perspective
hi all
Lol (literally) at KJE
hiya jen
I'm younger than you Doren and have had plenty of experience.
hi leslteann!
right now, I'd settle for a man who could fix my heat.... blowing cold air, had to shut it off, and getting down to a chilly 30 tonight
everything can be looked at more than one way. what is the difference between settling and accepting one's imperfections (cause i'm sure not perfect myself and this man knows all my stuff and sees me at my worst and still truly loves me)
though... a down comforter is almost as good and much less trouble
and warm pj's
*Votes for the down comforter*
FW!!!
i don't mean have you had experience molly, and dyou have shown yourself to be a wise woman more than once. but i mean that my perspective has changed with each decade or so... and not sure right now what is settling and what is being accepting of the one I love
nice work kje!
YAY kje!
yay kayjay
whooo hoooo KJE!!
It is a conversation best not had here Doren. I did my time with the "man in recovery" who "wasn't as good to me as I was to him". I don't plan on doing that again, ever.
Yay K!
wtg kje!
and i've been struggling with this for far too long.. yet I am much happier with him than i am without, that's for sure
got the resume done, working on the cover letter and reference list... *sigh* and feeling more and more anxious. Glad I took tomorrow off. Glad I have plenty of work lined up for this month... Glad that when I am done with this task it will be ready to go at any time.
there is no such thing as perfect... it isn't settling to see someone's faults and still love them (or else, I'm in a lot of trouble)
i hate resumes and such, stid. i would rather just let my work speak for itself, unfortunately that doesn't work for potential jobs
re6/30#1 pl?
stid... you are awesome, and they'd be lucky to get you
ok molly. i see your point. well, he is very very good to me "within his limitations" and far more giving in his way than i am .. at least currently

well -- I am at my core an insecure person who feels inadequate at almost every task. Which I am intellectually aware doesn't make sense, but which I struggle against.
final re5/10pls?
i think it is hard for someone modest like stiddy to "sell" herself, dorens
but thanks, doren -- because I highly value your opinion!
Stid, you have a lot going for you, and you need to express that in your cover letter as well as in your interview. You know a lot about special need kids as well as your specialty in reading. don't short change yourself!

lbd - what do you d? i forget
agreed.. makes sense
actually, this little gas wall heater in the bathroom off my bedroom can really warm these two rooms up - getting warm in here!
i used to do them professionally. career counselor and teacher. had to read a lot of resumes for different positions on campus
currently i'm unemployed/semi-retired.
STID!!! send it to lbd for review!
Stid, I hope you can find a way to be confident in your job skills and express that in your resume. That is what will win you the job you want. Best of luck to you.
Good evening to my fellow babblers! Hosis everyone doing?

By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!

lol, i like facenook
Doren, I am trying to limit my All About Me Book existence to family. Feel free to email me at: mtjtoday@yahoo.com
okay, references ready. Now for the letter of interest (in case I don't actually get to meet the superintendent tomorrow)...
stiddy, you can send your resume to me to review if you want.
LBD -- you open to a quick review?
I must go... good luck, stid... and feel well, dorens... hagn all
snap, LBD! LOL I can promise you at least the cost of a coffee a day for a week as payment.
sure
thanks kje, and all -- your kind words are really helping tonight.
night night, kje
we know how much you care about kids! so we know you will be a great hire. :)
can you read word documents, or do you want PDFs, or googledocs?
word is fine. which email are you sending it to? gmail?
I have your gmail, I think
Stid, the best thing you can do is breathe deeply, work up a resume that highlights your good points, and have confidence that you will find the right job.
yep gmail
okie dokey. waiting.
going to polish/restore some of the letter bits and then send it. Will send the resume first
k
crossing my fingers stid!
re 6/21?
don't know why someone can't ride something again (in past tense) am missing a lot of r's
ok LLA past tense of the word above it (latin pt)
oh bugger. thanks dorens
do you have the re7?
yes. to arrange things again
stid's resume looks really good! gold stars for sure!
brb
hooray
(we are not surprised ,, are we?) stid is a star!!
thanks!
OOOH! I SAW THAT!!!!! *beaming at LBD's praise*
yay for lbd giving stid confidence before the interview
;-) not an interview (yet) bugs -- but will hopefully lead to one!
not hopefully... Naturally!!!
te 6/21?
happy to be rid of the r's
throws a few more r's at doren
A te 6/21 word is a marine worm. Didn't find it yet though.
ii see three there RuRuRocks
that's because you need to do it again minver
monkeyed it min - te + "again" prefix + ** re mi
Are you behaving, ruru?
ah, a favorite babblet and i never knew what it meant. thanks for the info min
for the time being neil
Yeah, of course you are. The question is "how?"
Uh huh.
*waiting for his shot*
te 6/21 word is te plus re 4/5 word. I just found the word.
I made Lasagne tonight
<---- betting on ru.. he Always gets his shot
smelling preeeeetty good about now
Yep.
I'm just trying to figure out Goodreads.
what's that
boom, fireworks
website where we keep track of the books we've read.. rate them, etc. good for folks who read a lot and like to share their opinions
YAY LA!!!!
yay LA@
whoooo hooooo LA!!
or folks like me who want to be able to remember what we've read!!!
Love Goodreads! Make sure you get the phone app to make it easy to find what you are looking for when you are in the store
LLLLLOOL
Congratulations LeslieAnn on your fireworks! Hooray for U!
Yay LA!
The only thing I can remember is wine stuff.
going to read your letter now, stid
but you remember so much of it, and i barely remember the names of what i like. (but ohhhh the 89 beaucastel was glorious!)
that was WIne of the Year in the Spectator
That's a really nice beaucastel
many of his wines were wines of the year... he often stated it proudly. but i liked that better than all his cal. cabs which he preferred. i really think he should give me all the beaucastels... they will be bad soon, what a waste
a friend sent me a listing of a friends cellar and I wrote about every wine in it and blew them away.. they couldn't believe I knew about every single one of them
and the gevry chambertin.. beaune, he has bunches of very old burgundies that need to be drunk up
yeahh.. he should give you ALL of his French Wine
you are rather impressive
piffle
i bet he's barely drunk any of them.. and they will go to waste. shame
clues before i go?
about 26 of them please
tell him.. that if he clears out that Burgundy that he doesn't drink .. he'll have more room for his trophy california cabs
AND. .. you'll think much better of him going forward
Phone app, magazinemom? Is there one available for the Android?
hah. good one. but i haven't spoken to him in a while, and it would seem so awkward (and obviously grunging, if you know what i mean)
yeah.. i guess it would.
might hint it to his daughter next time i see her
good idea
go through the kids
tell her that you've loved the older wines now that they are ready to drink and you like your wines like men Mature and open
which kids? his daughter is the one of his kids who lives locally and i see.... and my kids have nothing to do with him anymore
hahaha... that's a great line.
neil- not sure about that. I have an iPhone
she knew i always liked the french ones better... we had dinner together every sunday nite and i frequently reminded him that we needed to drink them, as he said they only had a couple of years left. and i always swooned over them. even if i couldn't see the bottle, i knew
Stiddy, letter coming back atcha! one comment on the letter.
who knew babble could match up a professional resume writer with a hesitant resume needer?
okay.. it's lasagne time.. Pours glass of Pinot.
mmmm (wishing i could sample both)
tata for now kiddies.... tell Ken Doren that you have a professional friend in the wine biz and he recommends finding a welcoming home for all those burgundies he doesn't enjoy.. it's better to keep things you like to drink around the house ..
babble is an amazing place! anything can happen here.
does babble exist ?
who knows ru? maybe the new chick likes them too?
in our hearts and minds, ru
bon apetit
I am sure she likes diet Pepsi
hah! i like that thought
he's a fool.. a total fool..
his loss in many ways
If "enable" met my dog, they would know that "defur" is a word.
I mean.. what are they going to talk about Charlie Sheen's movies ?
i'm better off without him. remember that. the best thing about him was the wine, and the vacations, and the certain dinners out at restaurants three times a week. and his sunday dinners (loved his daughter and the grandkids)
okay.. that's saves it.
did i ever tell you she is an md?
.. okay.. Charlie Sheen's medical movies...
literally lol once again
:D
hugs doren.. he's missing out.
but when we went out to dinner we were like those pathetic couples who sit there and have nothing to say to each other. i couldn't believe it.
bye for now
enjoy that lasagne!
oh.. then it's good you dumped him.. ...
it smeeeeeeeeelllls fabu
my nose is broke... can't smell it at all
awww..
you'd like this wine.. 2009 Walter Hansel Pinot Noir Cahill Lane.. $39..
it's a WOW wine
poof
co7 anyone?
there are two, dorens, one is a drug the other is one who dates someone
actually the drug one is wrong, just add a vowel to the end of the drug
thanks dawg
yw
ARGH. I am over-tweaking that letter... *sigh* I want to edit and edit and edit...
relax!! less is more. youa re fine, if dawg says is good ,, is good
Heyas again ..
yes Doren. I know... I am being overly picky. One more look... brb
it's the lunk again
*stern mama look at stid*
hi torg! hmm, maybe i shouldn't have commented on one word. Stid, put it away. let it rest, you're worrying over nothing
okay, okay! Took out an additional sentence I had put in and sent it to the printer *shrinking from doren look*
and well you should shrink... i don't do them often, but when i do.....!
It was a good comment, LBD! LOL I got inspiration and remembered I had to include the whole "I love literacy" concept as well. So I did. That's all... really... and a couple minor re-arrangements of phrases.
letters? are playing wheel of fortune?
i'll buy a vowel ren
hi rennie! wheel of fortune if stiddy gets employed.
RENFIELD! AVAST! HAUL ANCHOR!!! BELAY THE BOWLINE!!! KEELHAUL ENABLE!!! *stomps around piratically*
de 6 please? want to go to sleep
well, wheel of solvency, anyway, LBD!
de + **n and games + hi point letter + vowel.
woo hoo stid!!! you go go go
ty dawg
great clue LBD -- and thanks ren!
i went looking for my old resume...oi! you wont guess what i found in my filing drawer!
Money maybe?
I like finding money in drawers...
***has nothing to do with resume**
three tablets of carbon paper!
long lost jewelry?
or old lingerie? *visions of LBD in red lace bustier with bunny tail?*
I usually find money when I'm cleaning. At least housework sometimes pays off... literally.
carbon paper? wow.. blast from the past!
NO WAY -- that's like... I am not sure stidkids even know what that is...
i told hubs and he said "wow, do they even make carbon paper any more?"
don't make too many typewriters, do they?
i remember doing my master's thesis with carbon paper!!
elder stidkid says he remembers using some when we were homeschooling And that was easily 20 years old
we could play carbon paper games during a sleep over
I took carbonpaper to school and the kids had SUCH fun with it. They could not imagine something so much fun that did not require electricity!
I remember trying to make corrections on both the original and the carbon copies!
i did for papers in college. but was using computers by the time i was in grad school
typing erasers...glorified pumice stones!
I had carbon paper for some papers in college, but my then-boyfriend introduced me to the mainframe (where my lovely Tom hung out in the corner)... and the rest is history!
mine was pink w/ / pink brush on the end
mine too, rennie
oh yes, i remember those erasers. wow
my eraser that is
remember when liquid paper came out and it was so lovely? and those plastic tape thingies with chalk on the one side
Mother had a pink one AND a blue one!
or maybe the blue one was for sewing...
need seven f's ugh
i liked the smell of liquid paper
selectric typewriters, with the auto correct key! lol
I went to college with a Brother "word processor" that had a spell-check!
you are a youngun
hey - i still have a 1933 typewriter - not sure where it came from tho
the first computer i used was a kaypro 6...jeez had to learn dos and it only had about 32 kb of memory
I wish Mother had kept her old Hermes typewriter, I learned my amazing keyboarding skills on that
had one like that for years, rennie, my dad's. and then i foolishly threw it over for an electric. don't know where it went
WE had a Kaypro! I think it was a II
mine was an apple
i have an antique remington typewriter. it's beautiful
we've always had apples, back from before the GS, let alone mac. i remember thinking how cool.. GS for granny smith.
I bet it's lovely LBD -- when I come to buy you coffee, may I see it?
my 1st puter i mean - the typewriter begins w/ a 'c' - not sure if it's a cigar or a typewriter
I have it stashed in a hidey hole where it can't get hurt. but sure stid, you can come climb over the boxes to see it.
corona as in smith corona?
ty, dorens, i was wracking my brain over the C typewriter
that's it dorens - a cigar is a corolla?
so is a toyota
cool! If I get this job, I am taking a train through the rockies and coming to see you!
compaq, probably ren
You are always welcome at the Dawg haus
things that start with C... coffee! caring, corn, candy, CHOCLIT, campari, corfu...
i was just so excited about this smith corona.. wanted an electric so bad i saved up my babysitting money. my parents were impressed that i had done that, so they matched my money and i had it for christmas as a surprise.. i was so excited to see it under the tree... will never forget it
compaq is a comuter...HP's basic line, i think
stid, none of those are the 5 i need
what a lovely gift, doren
to get to dallas by train - we have to go from FL to chicago then down to dallas
well kids, must depart for the pillows. see you all tomorrow!
i think we should have a babble met up in montana! i've never been there... one of the few states
niters dawg

YAY and sweet dreams Doren!

Ren, I did not take your boots and socks, but I know where there are some cozy slippers...
doesn't smaller and harp jane live in montana?
harpjane does for sure, and a couple of others, but I haven't seen them online recently

rennie - does evanonut know about the Stephanie Plum movie that's out?
Thought of her when I first saw the ads on tv.

I think she's a little too "sweet", but maybe she'll surprise us.
but she sang la-la-la-la la-la-la-la elmo's world all on her own, and watched hockey with her daddy, so is forgiven
ok broll - sleep well - do you have my socks and boots?
sweet dreams broll
haha well if she let you watch hockey then okay
No, but I wish I did to keep my feet warm!
I might possibly get to meet the school superintendent tomorrow, jmc -- I am going to drive out and hand-deliver my resume. I hope I do get the job though. It would be a fine first step.
Nite all. *poof*
it would indeed stiddie
break a leg, stidmama!
but remember it takes a lot of shoe leather for most to get jobs these day
anyway... I should toddle off to bed. Roads are likely to be icey tomorrow, and I said I would be there between 9 and 10. And I haven't canceled my pre-scheduled sub jobs yet! LOL I have my "fall-back" plan ready to go.
