... (1) Wait until he's three ... ... (2) Have his father train him ... (3) If they read to him (which they should be doing anyways) turn the bathroom into a mini reading room (this also has the advantage that it slows him down so that he does it completely and you don't have to do it five minutes later ... (4) do it everytime before he goes out ... automatically whether he needs to or not
I agree that 2 and 1/2 is early to potty train, especially a boy.
Good start with underpants. Pullups delay training--it's not inconvenient to make a mess. Bring him to the potty every 60-90 minutes (before he dribbles). If he has an accident he needs to feel the inconvenience. It's cheaper to clean carpeting than to keep buying diapers.

I learned about "elimination communication" from parents that came to the US from underdeveloped countries where kids are trained early and easily by 24 mo.

Some kids are ready at 2 and 1/2 some are not ready until almost 4. I think the worst thing you can do is push it on a kid who isn't ready. They all end up trained eventually.

My other granddaughter [not the sibling of the trainee] was well on her way to 4 with no interest. She started pre school and they wouldn't let her wear pull ups. Put underpants on first, then diaper and she got it right away
I am half following this thread about potty training, and I remember getting so stressed about my son (boys are trickier to train than girls) that a pal of mine - tired of listening to me obviously - said "Ah leave him... his wife will train him!". I got the point, stopped stressing, and he got the hang of it no prob when he was 3.
yeah, i tried pushing it on my younger one...didn't go so well. i ended up waiting for a while, worked out better then.

LOL true. So you make little straight parallel lines a little bigger than the button (running stitch), and then do the blanket stitch over top of those.
