hi Sprite
hey dizgrannie :)
looks like a friendly grid so far
hasn't been too bad, 47 left and hit a brick wall
ok, that sounds pretty good indeed. I have 81 left.
grannie, do you have the stats of either 8?
Hi sprite pe 8/55 & su 8/55
okay, no lists anywhere. right? * thinking cap on*
Good morning, sprite. su8 and pe8.
hi Dianne, thank you :D
hi Haz, thank you too :)
hey ro4 :)
You're welcome. Good morning/evening all.
((((spritey)))))
there is nothing like playing Babble in good company :D
and hello to haz, dianne, diz, jmc, cos
*hugs ro4*
Glad to see so many here - I am going to need help with this one.
spritey, have results of ultrasound and blood tests
please tell, ro4. I have been thinking of you.
have a multinodal goitre and looks like hypothyroidism...repeat blood tests in 3 weeks to confirm.
am gonna look those up, ro4, back in a few.
plus, GP is checking parathyroid and adrenal glands
I've been trying to convince myself that a dream I had was really a dream. We're in the midst of spring lambings and calvings here with some disturbed nights. I dreamt that I lost the head with a farming client who wanted to have stomach powders dispensed at 2.00 am. I yelled down the phone 'Try getting them from a shop!' Husband hasn't mentioned it this morning so I'm pretty sure it was just a dream.
back... that looks familiar. I think my mother suffered from that. Any chance you have iodine deficiency?
lol, haz....sure hope so!!!!
oh Haz :) I really hope it was!
I hope so but it was SO real!
well, spritey, eat a lot of fish and use iodised salt...maybe or maybe not
dinner ready, see you later
See you later, grannyrose.
bye ro4, big *hug* for you.
that would be the 'easy' explanation, but doesn't look like it then, ro4. My mother could be helped with medication. I hope they will be able to help you too.
Haz, some dreams can be that real! I have been convinced I told my husband something, but I didn't... it was a dream. Also some conversations with friends. So I really hope it was just a dream :)
and somehow I don't see you yelling at a client, for any reason or at any time. The lack of control suggests a dream for sure.
I know, I was still worried about it this morning but in my dream I was taking down details of his name and address. There are no signs of it in the call book, so I'm convinced, thankfully, it was just in my mind.
ah good :D That saves you an awkward apology!
need 2 more 7s - have hu, lo, or, pex2,re, st. anyone have the others?
I think it was just the product of having answered the phone so many times during the evening. The funny thing is that there's practically nothing but sheep at this time of the year, but once lambings are over, you hear nothing until next year.
sorry grannie, I only have lo and re. Thanks for the others.
yw sprite
Sorry, dizgrannie, I only have the ones you've mentioned.
ty haz
Haz, it was just your subconscious that ached to have some piece of mind and really wanted to yell at people who don't think for themselves. *very big grin*
I'm terribly glad we don't have video-phones otherwise some clients might be scared at the eye-rolling ...
am right with you on that. If they become common, I will refuse to buy one. As my love always says: you don't have to SAY anything, Cass... your face says it all.
you must get quite your share of 'stupid' phonecalls.
The silly phone calls have been lessened because of a new phone system that informs them that the surgery is closed and that you should only hang on if you have an emergency.
oh that is a great idea. At least people will think for a second.
good morning
so7
We still do get some mainly because not everyone can work out what's an emergency and what isn't.
hey ruby! I was thinking of you with this grid. So many french words! Most not valid, of course.
Good morning, ruby and thank you, isles.
hi isles, thank you
yw
I'd love to hear some of the silliest ones, Haz. If you would collect them, you could write a book!
With names heavily disguised....
indeed! And maybe only after your husband and you have retired, grin.
or not!
ty Isles
Yes, he'd have a few to contribute as well. We'd have to change settings and names.
speaking of silly phone calls, I just got a telemarketer to whom I said, "I'm sorry, I don't speak French!" It always works
well I must admit that I have called our vet in panic as well, while there was no reason. I thought Terra was very ill, he couldn't stand, not walk, and was very lethargic. And all it was was belly-ache and some kind of bug, like flu. Panic for nothing.
oh good one, ruby!
But the vet wouldn't mind giving advice because Terra wasn't well. Sometimes it's as much to give reassurance to owners as anything. Plus cavaliers are notoriously poor patients.
you would have to be saintly to be any kind of doctor's wife!
oh dear, aren't they just. They act like it is a tragedy!
If someone comes on the phone about their dog squealing in agony over a vaccination, you can be sure that it's a cavalier!
ooohhhh don't talk about dogs, we have another 6 weeks before we pick up our little beagle, Begs....LOL
no, she didn't mind, and I was allowed to come in between his other patients. But she was absolutely right that it was for my sake and not for the dog... he was not in any mortal danger.
sorry 3 weeks
Haz, too true. Terra is awful that way. Even when I brush his coat, he is quite capable of voicing severe pain... with a little snag.
her* other patients.
grannie, how exciting!
It's just the breed, sprite, they have a very low pain threshold.
see my profile pic
yay, have the d's...anyone want me to list?
awww grannie, that is so sweet! A little hotdog :)
Beagles are lovely, I hope you get great pleasure from the pup.
I didn't know that, Haz. Always thought it was because Terra never met anything painful, except by accident or at the vet.
yes plz Granny need 2 more
do4, 4, 4, 6, ...dr4, 4, 5, 5.....du4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 5, 5
They're renowned for not being pain tolerant.
TY Haz, we were never going to get another dog after our last one died of old age...but, but she soooo cute...LOL
el4, ....ep4,.....er4, 4....eu4, 5
that is good to know :)
Anyway, I must head off to get ready to go out. Enjoy the grid and I'll see you later! *gone*
bye Haz, have a lovely day!
bye haz
later, haz, have a good day
diz, it is great that you are getting a new puppy. I can't imagine a house without a dog in it, even though it hurt so much to lose one
do you feel a little bit less awful, ruby, now that some time has passed?
jo 4, 4, 5.
no, still a little bit ewepy, but I am so busy with Ruffino, that I don't have time to mope
weepy*
that is good. Yay for Ruffino. You know there is nothing you could have done to prevent it.
awww, ruby, lots of hugs, sweetie. still weep for my jonah and julia
(great names, ro**)
our g/kids still talk about 'chrissie' and miss her terribly, and are all excited about our new addition coming
you know that our first chow was ro*ie
i just loved the unconditional love they gave me.
new ones can never replace th old ones in our hearts, but there is always room to love another
does anyone want me to list the Hs
no, ruby, didn't know...small world, huh?
that is so true. You cannot replace anyone you loved. But it does not have to stop you from loving somebody else too.
and with Max, particularly, since he was autistic, his trust and affection were even more touching
please, diz
not for me, thanks grannie
spritey, close your eyes
many ro**s in both our families: husband's mother, his granddaughter's middle name, his great-granddaughter's middle name, my aunt, and more!

I love the name ro4. It is oldfashioned in a sweet way, and it is a strong name.
thank you.
ok that was a fun one, that su!
thanx spritey....actual name is rosemary...but i always hated the mary part...don't know why, just did. hubby has always called me rose....
husband calls me nellie unless he's angry, then he says my proper name
a very different name, ro4mary. It fits some people. But clearly not you :)
oh yes, and his best friend's wife is ro**mary but it called Rosie
lol, ruby. and how often is that?
nellie sounds sweet, ruby.
just can't find the so7 - any clues please?
(too often)
hi ray
hello Ray, more like a dinner starter dish.
hiya
ruby, just be deaf from now on for anything but nellie :)

gran, if you open the chat, you will find many letters listed by ro4.
apologies spritey, don't want to spoil your game, really i don't.
I know, dear. I try to avert my eyes :)
well, it is after 1 hour since the game started. * grin *
hehehe :D Oh I don't mind if it is incidentally. Just hate it when people do it every day.
oh, okay then.
and almost done too, so don't worry
when I am done, I will post a list in my profile
yay, spritey...i will probably need it.
I have one left now... a W4... cannot be too hard to find.
fireflies! Off to make the list.
WTG SPRITEY!!!!
ok, the list should be in my profile now
yes, it is. thanx spritey
have just 20 to go, p, r, s, t, u, and w's. thanx for your help, dear friend
and copied it on BabAnon.
my pleasure, ro4 :) I hope they will be able to help you with the hyperthyroid symptoms. Pls keep me informed? *hugs*
bye all, have a lovely day and/or night and thanks for the help and company.
np's, spritey
and done here...anyone need a hand?
okay, outta here, see you all at the flip...well about 2 ho5 later, actually
hi everyone
hello. bingo top row!
hello, back from quick lunch
my secret 300 lb me is eating dulce de leche ice cream for desert!
half, yay
... well done ... far ahead of me ...
hello dose
... g'day
and nbt, nbs, too
... not having an easy time of it this morning
mainly because nobody much was here, hence, not so much chatting
ice cream helps.....
... that is a help toward getting that first half done
... pension cheque came in today ... grocery shopping ... ice cream and cookies on the top of the list
do you get haagen daas {sp?] in canada?
the flavors we get are random and not consistent, but there are a couple that are spectacular!
... it's there ... but my wife has this thing about stuff that is "too rich" ... Haagen Daas is near the top of the list ... so I settle for the regular store brands
... oh I'm easy to please ... I'll take any flavour ... as long as it's chocolate
but the special flarors: dulce de leche, caramel and cream, speculoos
<-- doen't like chocolate
... it is difficult to find chocolate anything that I don't like (but it can be done) ... ... and now someone has come out with an "it's good for your statement" so I no longer feel guilty about over indulging ... ... even if you're only supposed to take a little bit
only the dark chocolate is good for you -- the only kind I like is milk chocolate, bad for you
and Milky Ways
... yum
when I was a kid and my father had a candy store, he used to put pop sticks into the milky ways and freeze them in the summer for the local kids
... I only had Tony's Grocery store near my grandfather's summer house ... had a snack bar with the best chocolate milk shakes in the world ... I think it was the size of them that impressed me ... could take an hour to consume one ... always order chocolate milkshakes whereever I go trying to find one as good ... haven't succeeded ... ... but get lots of chocolate milkshakes that way
bnecause I was skinny, my father used to make me cho/vanilla malteds with extra malt to fatten me up
... was skinny until I was 35 myself ... ... then I had kids and stopped exercising ... just drove them around to where they were exercising ... ... now I'm far more portly than my father ... ... a thing which I promised myself as a teenager would never happen ... ... sigh
I am one of those "chicken old ladies"
was only plump during sn's first year
and, at 42, when I started running seriously, I went from 97 lbs to 103 -- all new muscle
... yeah but you'll live to be 100 ... while I'll have clogged arteries and fatty liver from too much chocolate ice cream, chocolate cake, chocolate chocolate, and other chocolate things
I'm hoping....
and with 101 words, nap time and see you soon, dose!
... a bientot
Good morning!
Mornin" 8)

I have a bowl of fruit!
just remember, Haz, "this too will pass"
does it work off of the su5
peri, su8, compound word meaning extra warm - or very attractive?
If a young guy saw a gorgeous girl, he might say to her friends that she is su5 + not cold
I know, not suffering all that badly but just occasionally wondering if someone has turned the heating up.
got it, thanks Haz. Yes it will pass
ah, thank you for the extra help. got the su8
Hang in there Haz!

Well done, ivesy and peri.

My symptoms are mild compared to some people - not having to wring out sheets at night or anything so I'm happy enough.

How do you feel about Conda?
Not too sure about her....
she puts me off for some reason
I think she is a rotten human being...but then I remember they are only showing us the footage they want to...so I don't know. I find it hard to believe everyone in the house thinks she is so great after all the crap she has pulled, so maybe there is more there. But generally...I can't stand her. I wish she would go.
Lunch time!
Yummy!

very true. Crossy
you can't do it wrong.
but they do keep changing the rules,if i am not mistaken they say 30 compression/breath now
even if the timing isn't just right, it will help.

just get air in and wake the heart up.
I don't think the person will care if you do it the old way.

In 1956, East Germany decided to honor the death of native composer Robert Schumann by featuring him on a stamp. The design included a commemorative portrait of the artist against the backdrop of one of his musical scores. Unfortunately, the musical manuscript they used was that of fellow composer Franz Schubert.
tc everyone and happy babbling...poink!
ok, my gall bladder's out and i'm ready to babble
are you feeling better pickles?
still a little sore and tired but not bad
Yeah, lickety!

HI Welki!

mixi, you play the piano, don't you?
yes. classical.
then you've probably played the traumeri :)
yes, a loooong time ago. I'm doing more piano duo these days.
i listen, can't play worth a damn - but was lucky enough when i was younger to have had two baby grands in the house. the kids played four, sometimes 6 hands - love it :)
we working on a schubert Fantasie, Rimsky-Korsakov scherehzade (1st movement), peter warlock's capriole suite and a Dykstra rag. It's about 45 minutes of music.
hehehe .. from the delicate to some serious toe-tapping :)
'prelude' is almost in the grid
I though about the whole rimsky-korsakov until I realized it was 45 minutes by itself.
complicated music - a whole lot going on. i'm more of a solo-lover. give me the goldberg variations any day. do you post music videos on youtube?
I have not. I am trying to become computer illiterate.
d'jour is almost in the grid too LOL

ok, NOW taking a break with 43 to go :-)
Help, please. I need su8 to finish this grid
... very very very warmj
phantom: slurpee
finished the j's
a silly su 8---should be two words, no?
... I'm going to guess it's a scientific term that has to do with heating stuff underpressure to keep it from liquifing or turning to a gas ... ... but that's just a guess ... you'd have to ask uusue ...
I'm sure you're right..but it just feels wrong
... I just checked and the grid would accept "supercool" which mean to cool something close to absolute zero so that it gains some very strange electrical properties ... ... that's why I'd bet that su8 is just at the other end of the scale when something is about to become a plasma ...
I agree Kate
wow--fascinating stuff--but still...
... oh I agree ... but if they only had words like "dog" and "cat" which everybody uses everyday where would the fun be ... the frustration of dealing with the unusual and obscure words is half the fun
could i have a clue for the other j please I have j4/9 and j5/22
... list says it's jo4/9 ... haven't monkeyed yet
TY
oh true--and while some of the words are ones I will never use (and probably never remember after a short while) there have been great words -- fun to find and learn the meaning of. The best ones are sometimes the perfectly normal words which are buried in the grid and hard to find.
the jo 5 is french, the 4 loses one vowel
pe 5,12 anyone?
ty kate, got it
afternoon kiddos
hi All
... pe 5.12 sound like the plural of a round green vegetable
Hi Jes, I was thinking of you last night. Be careful out there. My sister's long time friend, who is also a vet, is in serious condition after being kicked in the back by a horse.

No one says "Oh Roooooooob" like MTM.
How come all the commercials on shows like jeopardy are for adult diapers, viagra, arthritis pills and life insurance?
Can someone spell "demographic?"
I agree, no shame in listing. I totally don't get why people say that like it's a bad thing.
I don't care what those people say, Molly
Who CARES? (about listing)
Medicare.
I play this game for fun, and to exercise my brain. Not to compete.
God bless you if you can do the grid without assistance, as for me i'm just happy to finish at all
Me too Pickles. Most of the time I don't finish because I get too frustrated looking for stupid words.
heyas
how goes the battle?
Hi Jes
I had to go show my daughter the DVD show.LOL http://tinyurl.com/73p5j96
12 to go....clue on how to get the su8? I'm fading fast
yeah, me too
harry, the sun is this su*** ***!!
harry, the sun is this su*** ***!!
it's a stupid compound.
and some would say so is George Clooney.
i am sad that you can't get the combo-word from su5 and po5...
you can't pluralize it.
ok..ty
you know what's great? (and this is totally apropos of nothing here!) being asked a question that's so dumb it makes you question yourself because the asker can't possibly be so silly...
MTM and DVD are so cute.
does this count as a dumb question? Gage asked me "Mom. Did you know we live in the known universe?"
yeah, I know, right?
heh. no, that's just cute, m9
answer to Gage: As far as we KNOW... **really wicked mama grin**
i still can't get that su word
yup. he said "we always have"
Maybe I'll get an MTM haircut.
great icon idea, stid
OOh, a permanent solution to hair loss.
I love old people commercials.

go jes go!
aah well....7 left...bbl perhaps
speaking of old people... LOL (with) Kaplan

bye, harry
And if you missed it, you missed it.
My high school junior daughter is having a mini breakdown over SAT anxiety. Not pretty.
we missed so much in the "good old days" --- and most of it I don't miss any more! meaning... it really wasn't that important anyway!
I HATE ALL Stanrdized tests!
Suzanne Pleshette? Pantsuits?
Sideburns? Checked sportsjackets?
and apparently standardized spelling, pickles? *worried mama look* what's up?
that's funny i spelled stardardized wrong, lol
pantsuits and checked sports jackets are well consigned to history...
why do you hate standardized tests, pickles?
Standardized tests are awful.
They measure what's normal, standard, not creativity. They make it easier to measure people
<---Agrees with Pickles
I am 5 '3" with my shoes on.
ok. so how would you go about measuring creativity?
With a creativity ru5.
heheheh
right, pickles. they measure how a person compares to others, not how that person has grown. they also generally despite best intentions display a bias toward particular demographics, and are thus not a great measure for all groups.
Of course.
not a scale, kap?
I am nearly 5'5 with my teaching boots on... if I don't slouch.
You're in the 86th percentile of creativity for your age and ethnic group.
why should creativity be measured? why not described?
Yeah I know, right?
don't know. not advocating anything in particular, just asking because pickles seems so adamant.
i must be the favored demographic for standardized tests, i always did well on them. And just to prove how completely not normal i am, i enjoyed taking them.
Bob Newhart is funny.
I don't mind a combination of specific measures (know 80% of the covered vocabulary, for example) in conjunction with narrative that describes specific accomplishments (was able to speak on a topic in front of the class...)
I was like you, jes -- and found it pretty much continues today (have to take tests to get into grad school, etc)
i guess places like colleges need these things but basing someone future on multiple choice tests, I'm against it
BUT -- I came from a family that conscientiously provided the kinds of experiences that support the American education system, which the tests were designed for... and my sibling from the same environment but a different skill set didn't do as well on them.
And i also agree with Kap
Pickles, again, I agree, but we are outnumbered here, I think. I'm not much on measuring intellect with numbers.
I wish my daughter had some sense that her anxiety is a separate issue from her SAT tests. She has worked herself up beyond reason, and won't let anyone help her with her anxiety. I am worried that she will make herself sick.
I definitely agree with you, Pickles. They are an indicator only... and it is not wise to base decision-making on such things alone.
Will not listen to reason.
waves hi! 'de-cloaks' aren't these same tests also used for other measures? teacher performance, school funding, tax $$
Kap, tell her to watch more Bob Newhart and do less worrying
oh Kaplan, I know so many teens who are like that! I wish it were possible for them to realize they can retake specific portions -- so can treat the test sitting as a practice (that sometimes reduces anxiety)
they are now, circe... and this despite issues like test anxiety, poor health, issues relating to poverty and family unrest...
slip your own "standardized test" into her study pile, with questions like what the appropriate dessert is for Friday :)
of course re-taking the test makes someone a lot of money
Right now she can't hear anything from us. Best to leave her alone for a bit.
it does -- but if they anxiety is mitigated on the first test, often one doesn't want or need to retest! :-)
anybody have stats for the lonely o in upper right?
not saying I agree...by any means...but until a better solution comes along???
dogwood twig, jes
thanks stid. nbt :)
*passes out candies to celebrate*
One of the reasons I have issues with standardized testing is what Kap's daughter is going through. Anxiety over how she will be measured and compared with others.
Granted, she is the kind of kid who will always have something that she will focus her anxiety on...
hu7/40?
One who jumps over hu6's
thanks, torg
Oh Donald- I'm That Girl!
Well Kap, I hope she works through the anxiety. It's unfortunate that we are measured by numbers. SAT scores, grade point averages, even here...Babble stats.
Oh Ricky! Oh Rooooob! Oh Donald! Do you detect a trend?
Good evening Babblers
hi wht :)
Does anyone have a clue for the pe7.36?
I need hu5/16 and hu5/14
I think she needs treatment for anxiety, but unfortunately she does not recognize that fact, and you can't force it
pickles, hu5,14 is the last name for a former Boston Red Sox pitcher. But that is probably a bit obscure.
pe7/36...pe + consonant + the background singers and dancers in a show are the ch****
It is also an anagram for sores.
where's min i could use a clue story
And the brand name of a shifter in a car
ty Molly
er
ty, molly
hu5/14 sounds like Patty of the SLA kidnapping story
hu5/16 sounds like Miss Muffets ***** and whey
ty, molly my 1st thought for 1st clue was tanya
Tanya?
SLA?
Symbionese Liberation Army
<---Needs to remember not to give outdated clues
phantom: julep
*Puts on Derby Day hat*
10 more p wo4s... gah.
hi, babblers!
hi welki
Hi welki
I'm having ice cream.. anyone want some?
yes please, ru
thanks, ru - the works, please
howdy babblers
hi viajes
Ice cream containers crack me up
I want ice cream!
what flavor ruru?
you know, up here, no one knows what 'wet walnuts' are - they just put plain nuts on sundaes (wet walnuts = walnuts in a simple syrup, very yummy)
mint chip
*giving Ruru my bowl so I can have ice cream*
*waiting to hear why ru laughs at ice cream containers*
*reaching out with a long spoon*
hi scrabbs!
Hi kids.
hi viajes, scrabs
how's smarten-up coming along? would love to see a recent photo, to see how he's starting to fill out
ru must have had to run to the store for more ice cream
I started the grid this morning and did not have much success.
I sure hope so, welki.
it's a bit of a grunt, scrabbs
i still need the 2 eight letter wordds
he's doing well, welki. Got his feet done again last week, the abscess in left front is nearly grown out, and right is filling in, but still has some pretty deep holes in his foot.
I am nearly comatose and just wanted to come say hello.
aw, poor guy - those sores must hurt terribly
Me too, Pickles. And the 6's and 7's.
i need current pics of him, but lately it's been pouring down rain all the time, so getting good light and not washing out my camera is tough...
@pickles -- one is su5 + more than warm
pe 7/40 + plural - sounds like frank pe****''s chickens with an extra consonant nearly at the end
ohhh, and the wet can't be good for his hooves :(
it's "sciency" because if you use it to mean "sexy" then everyone gets mad that it's not a word
