Time for me to crash, though. Still recovering from surgery :( so have to take it easy. 123 left for the morning.

12:40 am

what kind of surgery rast.. you okay?

12:42 am

Just saw your Fox News remark, ruru -- I salute you!

they fused L4-L5. Supposed to stop the sciatica which is the worst thing I've ever felt. It's true surgery was a drop in the bucket compared to that. Some residual neuropathy but I trust it'll recede with time

12:42 am

half way *crash* -- see you tomorow

12:42 am

ouch rast..

12:44 am

clue for z?

yes, but worth it to solve the other problem. They found a synovial cyst that was the main cause of the pain, but think that was rubbed up by the out-of-line vertebrae. It's all cleaned out now, should be ok once all this is done.

za5/6

I'm pretty much back to functional, just no extra energy.

12:45 am

yes.. you have to recover

so - off I go to score some healing sleep. :) Sleep, good.

1:24 am

hi granny

1:24 am

have just completed first run through grid, 72 to go, not bad for someone loaded up with morphine.

1:24 am

hi granny -- how are you today?

1:26 am

ok now. my pain meds order ran out this AM, and they didn't think about getting it renewed until an hour ago.

1:26 am

1:27 am

three word, cos!

1:27 am

*words

1:27 am

1:38 am

wtg kill!

1:38 am

jill

1:39 am

Oh I am indeed a killer-diller

1:39 am

hello all. glad to see that cosdem is OK - I was worried. Also, grannyrose - good to hear from you and I hope they sort out the medication a.s.a.p.

1:40 am

hi scouser

1:40 am

fire is now 25% contained. we're all very optismic

1:41 am

hi jillibus. a world of wierd weather - we have avoided the worst but other places in UK flooded and travel disruption. Yep, an ordinary English summer!

1:41 am

nbt

1:42 am

I think I cannot spell weird ?

1:43 am

i before e except after c -- unless it's weird

1:43 am

which makes it weird

1:44 am

cosdem - that 25% is a marked improvement in two days. Let us hope the wind speeds keep very low.

1:45 am

Old English strikes again

1:45 am

we've had an almost record cold, wet and sunless June :-(

1:50 am

Fireworks

1:51 am

wd anike

1:52 am

a mere nbt/nbs here

1:52 am

yay, anike! :)

1:52 am

TY - now I must get ready for my son's birthday party so bye for now and happy babbling

1:55 am

happy bday, anike's son! How old is he?

2:00 am

He's 28- getting old - or rather, making me feel old

2:01 am

He and our daughter bought a house together a couple years ago so at least the mess is there and not here - I just have to do some finger food to help our

2:04 am

Bye everyone

2:14 am

a certain theme la4ly, concerning kids and non-traditional lifestyles, as in, they don't seem to just get married and/or go off and have a "normal" life these days, huh? wonder if I can get our son and daughter to go buy a house somewhere? not likely as he drives her almost as nuts as he does us...

2:15 am

I still like the idea of selling the house to them and running off to a new one of our own, but Hubs says not likely, rats.

2:16 am

Morning/Night all - that sounds like a lovely idea Rbud - but we are fotunate that my son (but not my husbands) lives with my mum

2:16 am

he loves coming to visit but wouldn't want to stay with us

2:18 am

has anyone finished today yet?

2:19 am

I was thinking of crossy's story from the other night, of his friend whose kids kept moving back home again, with mates and even kids, until they gave up and sold them the house and got another one for themselves, the new empty nest. sounded like a good idea. :)

2:19 am

anike did

2:20 am

but I came in la4, had net problems, and haven't read back in the chog to see if others did.

2:20 am

that is quite a nice thought - I have a colleague who when we all moved from the southeast to Devon for work left his kids in his house there and bought new in Devon - which is a lovely gesture as housing is ridiculously expensive if you are new to the market

2:20 am

I have nbt, nbs, and nbg. nbg is "no blank groups" in the list, if you get what I mean.

2:21 am

I was late getting here too and only saw anike finish.

2:21 am

good for you JIlli = no 7.8.9 yet and one or two tiles to get

2:22 am

However, I am off out shortly and not sure when i will be back. We went to see a comedian last night - all you brits out there - if you want a laugh that might make you pee, see Dave Gorman

2:23 am

I have 3 7's and a 9 but no 8's so far.

2:23 am

But I'm not even halfway and am going to bed. Probably won't bother with this tomorrow -- don't like this grid, full of useless words. It also eliminates over half the letters in the alphabet. Bah.

2:23 am

i'm still here, lurking. would you like the 8's and 9's?

2:23 am

try for do 8/9. start at the bottom and meander upwards

2:24 am

go for it, diz, morphine messing with my head. lol

2:25 am

thanks diz - that gave me one of each only a 7 to go

2:25 am

LOL granny, how did the op go???xoxo

2:25 am

So bye all and have fun!...*poof

2:26 am

op went very well, already up, weight-bearing on crutches

2:26 am

night jilli, sleep well, hun

2:26 am

bye jilli

2:28 am

Kazz, try do 6/7...start from the same D

2:31 am

3:29 am

3:29 am

moda

3:42 am

hello hello no no

3:43 am

hi everyone

3:43 am

hello cos. How are yu doing?

3:44 am

intoxicated but coherent :)

3:44 am

nice combination

3:44 am

intoxicated, I tend to fall asleep before I become incoherent

3:45 am

a friend made me go to her brother's house party

3:45 am

im 33.. these kids are 21-23... im like wow.. if this is our future......

3:46 am

you are so young, cos! 33 is a great age!

3:47 am

it is yes. i agree.

3:47 am

id prefer 25 but yeah lol

3:48 am

everything is in front of you and you can still make more than one career change

3:48 am

33 was better than 23 and 43 was the absolute best!

3:49 am

and now it's time for apero and, soon after, the "kick off" of the Tour

3:49 am

see you later

5:54 am

bACK AGAIN, AFTER LUNCH, WARMING UP FOR THE tOUR

5:54 am

whoops, sorry for caps

5:56 am

Hi Ruby--have you picked the winner?

5:56 am

i'm hoping that it's Cadel again, but the Tribune said that Bradley Wiggins could be a winner. Not

5:57 am

I learned, from the restaurateur at lunch, that next year, The Tour will have a contre-le-montre around "our" lake again. Yay for that!

5:57 am

who i really liked was...greg? before lance

5:58 am

lemonde

5:58 am

Yes!

5:58 am

a little bit before I followed it. Have only been following it for 15 yrs, since I moved here

5:58 am

maybe le monde....lol

5:59 am

do you like it, too, jayk? Frenchwomen hate it

5:59 am

my husband, too

5:59 am

ooh--not going by your house this year?

5:59 am

i do! for one thing--like tennis players--they

5:59 am

re all good looking

5:59 am

only went by once. But around Lac d'Annecy another year

6:00 am

if you like gaunt and shaved legs! LOL

6:00 am

i do like gaunt

6:01 am

7 am here and gotta get to wotk

6:01 am

work

6:01 am

gaunt had its good points (lol) but I'm not so interested now (too old)

6:01 am

wotk could be OK, too

6:01 am

i'm older than you--one can still look

6:02 am

nobody is older than I! hahah

6:02 am

even looking makes me tired

6:02 am

70 in 6 weeks. dear lord!

6:03 am

OK, you've got me by 2/3 of a year. Where does the time go???

6:03 am

i have NO idea! it's really something, isn't it?

6:03 am

also depressing

6:04 am

but the 40's were certainly splendid!

6:04 am

I think of all the friends I've lost, so don't mind being so old, except on the rainy, cold days

6:04 am

yes they were! but i think the 30s and the 50s were also splendid. what i did with my 20s is beyond me

6:04 am

20's were a mess!

6:05 am

amen. now must be off

6:05 am

and wasted, except for my son who was born when I was just 20!

6:05 am

{{jayk}}

6:06 am

jayk and I joined the same month

6:06 am

completely--except for the babies. really gone now

6:15 am

watching the news and thinking of seain in DC -- no power since storms hit last nite and temps back up to 100 today -- aacckk!

6:15 am

poor seain! is that Debby-related?

6:16 am

109 here yesterday and we need rain . . . but not violent storms like so many had yesterday!

6:16 am

at best, DC has a terrible climate. Before they controled it, it was a hotbed of malaria

6:16 am

no, ruby -- think it's just part of the recordbreaking heat wave

6:16 am

we are very lucky here; it's hot, but manageable

6:17 am

was just channel-surfing and saw some "pre-Tour" footage -- thought of you! :-)

6:18 am

need to check on something on stove BRB

6:19 am

warming up!

6:29 am

i'm back . . . wow, millions without power in mid-Atlantic and some may not be restored for "several days" -- what a nightmare in this heat

6:36 am

It was a wicked electrical storm. Fortunately, I still have power.

6:37 am

that's great, molly! Was wondering about DC Seain . . .

6:41 am

Name that Proper Noun: French writer

6:41 am

I was without power for 3 days in severe heat once. I would rather be without in severe cold. Warmth is easier to "create" that coolness.

6:41 am

emile zola

6:42 am

J'accuse!

6:42 am

lots of proper names today . . . emile, emily, zola, somali, etc :-)

6:43 am

Nate, Sean

6:43 am

yep :-)

6:44 am

... gonna be a long slow hot struggle today ... ... have fun in the grid

6:44 am

natalie

6:44 am

natalia

6:44 am

<---Will not count the Cyrus creature as a proper name

6:44 am

LOL!!

6:45 am

Cyrus creature?

6:46 am

Billy Ray's girl

6:46 am

:-D

6:46 am

If you don't know who she is, more power to you.

6:46 am

6:46 am

Hmmmm, I don't

6:47 am

7:30 am

name that proper noun---a continent

7:31 am

Asia

7:32 am

ding ding ding!

7:32 am

Bacon, sausage, eggs and bagels on the sideboard!

7:33 am

Molly, you are a gem..

7:39 am

I made an early breakfast and I'm trying to do a little prep cooking in case we lose power.

7:39 am

God forbid.

7:40 am

ditto. We are going to a pool party in New Jersey today.

7:40 am

Name that proper noun--an African country

7:41 am

Good day for the pool. Although it this keeps up, they are all going to have tepid water in them.

7:41 am

Somalia

7:41 am

ding ding ding!

8:06 am

another proper noun---Isreali leader, Moshe *****

8:07 am

Dayan!

8:07 am

ding ding ding!

8:08 am

It's easy to win when you are the only one playing : D

8:09 am

yes, but you are good at the "proper noun" game

8:09 am

Molly, how hot is it in Maryland now?

8:10 am

Last time I checked it was 78.

8:10 am

about the same here

8:11 am

I feel bad for the power crews, having to go out and clean up after last night's storm.

8:13 am

Yes, me too. I wonder how cos is doing.

8:14 am

I hope he is okay. My doorbell is ringing. see you later

8:30 am

zipping thru on way out the door -- Cos and Ryan are fine -- they ended up not having to evacuate :-)

8:45 am

48 Ls? sigh

8:45 am

you haad to tell me that...:(

8:48 am

another rugrat on the way. my youngest nephew and his wife are having a baby in Sept. I will be a great aunt for 4th time. more baby gifts to buy *sigh*

8:48 am

wonderful, peri!

8:48 am

but I am a good little shopping will start checking out sales pretty soon. never can go wrong with books.

8:49 am

will be a girl and they are more fun to buy for than boys, imho

8:49 am

good little shopper,even

8:50 am

Good news Peri. I agree, shopping for girls is more fun.

8:50 am

my mom use to crochet a baby blanket for each grandchild

8:50 am

i think there is more to choose from for girls than boys

8:50 am

my friend has knitted a blanket for each of her grandchildren

8:51 am

Those are the best gifts. Home made blankets and quilts. I still have two blankets that were crocheted for my kids thirty years ago.

8:51 am

my great niece who is 8, loves to read and I am always buying and mailing books to her. she is thrilled to get them

8:51 am

that's what i do...the baby blanket, but i crochet them

8:52 am

for kids who like to read, you just cannot go wrong with books

8:52 am

I am pretty good at choosing the right kind. at the moment she love Nancy Drew.

8:52 am

and goodwill has the best prices on used books

8:53 am

as a kid i would have rather had a book than a barbie dall anyday!!

8:53 am

me too littlebit

8:53 am

i can safely say that 99.9% of babblers are also book lovers

8:53 am

and word lovers

8:54 am

you're probably right

8:54 am

and start their kids young on reading - and they grow up as book lovers

8:54 am

bibliophile <---

8:54 am

same

8:54 am

I don't understand it when someone says they do read. there are so many types of books to choose from.

8:55 am

my son has been allowed to read any book on my shelves without censorship from age ten and he always seems to choose wisely

8:55 am

my Mom always read to us when we were liitle and I was so anxious to be able to read myself. In the 1st grade our teacher took our class to the Main Public Library. I thought I was in heaven when I got my first library card.

8:56 am

THE CARD! remember when it got stamped for the adult section?..the world was your oyster

8:56 am

i can remember growing up and you had to be able to write your own name to get a library card and i practiced so i could do it and was so proud when i got my own card

8:56 am

my mom tells me i was mad when i came home my first day of school cause they didn't teach me how to read

8:57 am

lol

8:57 am

The first book I remember my grandmother reading for bedtime stories was Huckleberry Finn. I had to have been 4 or 5 at the time. Great memories

8:58 am

Mary Poppins and the Wizard of Oz. were the first books that I remember

8:58 am

good books! my favorite was charlotte's web!

8:58 am

some pig!

8:58 am

It is unfortunate that so many parents no longer read to their kids.

8:58 am

being read to me

8:58 am

dr. doolittle

8:58 am

I always read to the little ones

8:59 am

I just gave my nephew who lives close by: Guess How Much I Love You. His moms says he likes it.

8:59 am

the kids love it when we read to them at school!!

8:59 am

I always wanted to get a vanity tag for the car: IREAD. It spells out all of our initials

8:59 am

all my nieces and nephews get books from me at christmas - they all know it and expect it. Several years back I gave my then 13 year old nephew a game b/c I had seen it and knew he would love it.... around new years he asked me where his book was

9:00 am

oh, clever bichon

9:00 am

haha good one bichon

9:00 am

ill never forget reading the hobbit to my son, when i acted out the dwarves smashing all of bilbo,s crockery,my son got so excited.then we sang the plate smashing song together..;)

9:00 am

aww,kje

9:00 am

they note the traditions pretty quickly, peri - I was surprised he had noticed

9:00 am

they get books from me at christmas and birthdays and sometimes inbetween

9:00 am

nice stories!

9:01 am

no one else seems to give them books :(

9:01 am

they don't need to peri - you do!

9:02 am

:)

9:02 am

and you know waht kind they like :)

9:02 am

I do :)

9:02 am

give a person the gift of a good book and you give them the world

9:02 am

Peri, I think books are a great gift for kids. Look how many people here just related their favorite childhood books.

9:03 am

I really hadn't set out to consciously only buy thembooks, but it ended up that way a couple years and now it is expected

9:03 am

you're talking to the converted, molly :)

9:03 am

on another note I saw the movie: Albert Nobbs. Glen Close was wonderful in her role as a man. She played a waiter/butler.

9:03 am

for my personal childhood book it would be charlie and the chocolate factory

9:04 am

Peri, I was wondering how she would do in that film.

9:04 am

she is very good. and plays an odd little man.

9:04 am

I saw it on netflicks

9:04 am

my fave was "from the mixed up files of mrs basil e frankweiler"

9:05 am

m dream was to run away and live in a museum

9:05 am

It takes a pretty good female actress to do a male role well.

9:05 am

lol

9:05 am

I wonder how many kids tried that after reading that book, cross

9:06 am

I think glenn close and meryl streep are excellent actors and can take on almost any role

9:06 am

11:24 am

Addled brain syndrome

11:24 am

well.. the airconditioner is on in the PB

11:26 am

and cabana boys can fan you

11:26 am

We have trees and power lines down all over the place here from last night's storms.

11:27 am

glad you didn't lose your power, Molly

11:27 am

isn't it early for it to be that hot back there?

11:27 am

Serious heat wave

11:27 am

Yeas

11:28 am

Not really. That old "dog days of summer" thing pertaining to August is pretty much days gone by.

11:28 am

LOL doren

11:28 am

Ok, I give up..going inside to ac and computer, rather than silly ipod

11:29 am

Just lost a pound at least in sweat

11:29 am

Inate

11:29 am

rain has put the plans to paint deck posts today out of commission, so hello everyone :)

11:29 am

There are better ways to lose weight

11:30 am

hi nan

11:31 am

Hey all, raining here too nan. No garden time for me today. BUT going shopping with Grant to buy patterns and fabric for medieval clothing. That will be fun.

11:32 am

11:32 am

i must be unemployed i am sitting in a starbucks in toledo with my computer

11:32 am

hi all

11:32 am

need another n there doren

11:32 am

and hi to jmc too!

11:32 am

I wish you lived closer stid -- I have a box of such fabric -- damask I bought for a centennial celebration and never got around to using

11:32 am

do you do SCA? my son and dil do that. have you ever come out to Pensic? we live just south of there

11:33 am

I wish we lived closer, too!

11:33 am

eeees!

11:34 am

hi jm

11:34 am

hi ru

11:34 am

is kje in sf?

11:34 am

We haven't done SCA except with friends who are Scadians -- tried to get hold of the local group a couple times, but they never responded (pretty disorganized). Pensic is much too far away for us. But there is a little medieval village up in the Cascades (Camlann) that we visit a few times each summer.

11:34 am

i'm down to 60.. I think I need to list soon.. I'm getting bogged down

11:34 am

wow ruru -- you're doing great.

11:35 am

i'm down to 242... but inside now so should work a bit faster

11:35 am

just got down to 142 and thinking of listing!

11:35 am

294!

11:35 am

JMC, do you have a sign, made from a cardboard box and a cup for donations?

11:36 am

what a great idea molls! *looks for markers*

11:36 am

we are just 1 1/2 hours south and go up to take care of the little ones while they participate in activities - it goes for two weeks

11:36 am

.. heard it was over 100 degrees the other day in Toledo..

11:36 am

that would be great fun, teach.

11:36 am

216 -- much better

11:37 am

actually my ride from indiana to RI had to stop in Toledo for a funeral so I figured i would hang out here

11:37 am

lol jmc,not unemployed too long yet if you can still afford that starbucks coffee..wait till you are sitting i a back booth at Mc Donalds feeding of their wi-fi and eating ramen noodles that you snuck in and washing it down with a small micky d,s coffee

11:37 am

camlann.org is the one we visit.

11:37 am

Grant loves to hang out by the smithy

11:37 am

Put on your "pathetic, sad-eyed, hungry" look too.

11:37 am

yeah and the storm that hit molls hit us first in indiana

11:37 am

*doe eyes*

11:37 am

did that work?

11:37 am

sorry about the funeral, jmc

11:38 am

Doe eyes gets 'em every time.

11:38 am

it was my friends partner's sister so remote enough for me. . .

11:39 am

but i was certainly willing to sit in toledo for 3 hours for him to attend

11:41 am

holy toledo

11:41 am

This story has all the makings for a country western song.

11:41 am

I protest the al 7 -- that is 3 words

11:41 am

thanks nan, and i agree

11:41 am

really molly .. all you need is beer and its all set

11:41 am

there are some real doozies in this grid

11:42 am

well his partner understood he was between conferences and might not be able to make it but really it was sorta on the way

11:42 am

I don't have the al7

11:42 am

<==intrigued bye cyber's clue

11:42 am

pie with ice cream on top

11:42 am

I agree Nan, al7 is a bogus word.

11:42 am

wow

11:42 am

thanks nan

11:43 am

Scrabble dict. sez it's a silk fabric, the a7...

11:43 am

but a good one for today. i'm not a huge ice cream fan, but this weather does make me begin to think about it

11:43 am

<==pretending that isn't the way she spells it all the time

11:43 am

And I don't care about the silk fabric from the 19th century.

11:43 am

anyone have a clue for the 6/21 that follows the pie ?

11:44 am

yes, pl the fort

11:44 am

11:45 am

hi red

11:45 am

11:45 am

agrees with Molly

11:45 am

oh

11:46 am

it is actually a hyphenated word

11:46 am

don't pity me molly, if i were i'd have even more of a weight problem

11:46 am

e-mail but we have (per usual) shorted it even more

11:46 am

e-ma**? nah, that doesn't look right je

11:46 am

Enable doesn't recognize any computer terminology. HELLO, HOW WOULD WE ALL BE PLAYING THIS GAME WITHOUT COMPUTERS?

11:47 am

nevertheless that is correct dorens

11:47 am

*adjusts molly's medications*

11:47 am

No, JMC means shortened it without the hyphen

11:47 am

*looks for a beer in the pb*

11:47 am

hi all,had my g&t and popcorn

11:47 am

lol

11:47 am

I put the beer in the freezer

11:47 am

hi peri

11:47 am

nice lunch :)

11:47 am

11:47 am

G &T and Popcorn sounds terrible

11:48 am

it was noon,jmc

11:48 am

oh okay thanks molls lets get it out before it freezes

11:48 am

seriously thinking about going to pick up my case of jolivet and buying another. but it would mean leaving the airconditioning... will have to wait. I even put tea outside to make suntea and i don't want to go out to get it

11:48 am

hi peri.. but.. it isn't 5 o'clock - however, it is the weekend

11:48 am

well I ran out of chips and no more smoked oysters and did not want to drink of an empty stomach

11:48 am

I cleaned up too many beer bottles burst in the freezer in my childhood

It is warm. I have had an eventuful day in which I purchased a new vacuum. now I must get it out of the box and use it,

11:49 am

I set the timer so the beer won't freeze. : D

11:49 am

oh okay noon is perfectly legit . . . any time after elevensies

11:49 am

peri, you are having a serious g and t summer, aren't you?

11:49 am

but it is 5 o'clock somewhere and I can

11:49 am

whoo hoo red!

11:49 am

ROFL

11:49 am

cannot drink alcohol too late, it affects by sleeping

11:49 am

precisely peri

its almost 1 pm.

11:49 am

I have not had to buy a new vacuum in years. LOVE my Dyson.

11:49 am

only in the summer, Dorens

11:49 am

hope it has a lot of sucky uppy power, red

11:49 am

would love to have a Dyson

11:50 am

snuffy is sorta in the grid

11:50 am

i got one refurbished on woot.com peri, and it is nice

11:50 am

sucky-uppy power?

11:50 am

what is this vacuum cleaner of which you speak?

11:50 am

will look into that dorens;'

11:50 am

saw that, jmc (-:

11:50 am

Ahahaha! There is a woot.com?

11:50 am

i still use a dust mop

I got the exact same kind I had before, a Bissell power force. oddly the price had decreased from 80 bucks to 34.00

11:51 am

making note of woot.com

11:51 am

succiup. eastern long island native american tribe

Dust mop would be nice, but very hard to use on carpet.

11:51 am

no kidding, Dorens? wow!

11:51 am

ah the joys of competition! free market rules! (not that is really is a free market)

11:51 am

oh carpet sweeper for the rugs

11:52 am

or a broom sometimes

11:52 am

woot is this strange website that sends out daily specials... generally one item per day, and real good prices. and no, aloy, that WAS kidding, sorry

11:52 am

I wonder if Monica Lewinski has indian heritage of that tribe

11:52 am

I hate to clean!!

Plus I have the special fur dog. ruru how is your fur dog?

11:52 am

Carpet sweeper? Do they still make carpet sweepers?

11:52 am

I need a maid

11:52 am

groan... I am SO gullible!

Carpet sweepers are the bumb, but not so good for large volumes of pet hair.

11:52 am

unfortunately, peri, you'd have to pay her. that is one of the drawbacks

bomb that is.

11:52 am

i need a maid but no longer can afford one

11:52 am

he's great red.. we got him neutered and it's a big change

11:53 am

*Quickly arranges to sell Aloy some swamp land in Florida*

11:53 am

yes they still make carpet sweepers but mine is 100 years old

11:53 am

ouch!

11:53 am

less shedding when neutered?

Teulu gets less active each year. Sadly yesterday and today he is having a bout of colitis....

11:53 am

.. almost bought some, Molly.. lol

11:53 am

I have a small bissell carpet sweeper

West Palm was once a swampy land...

11:53 am

not really doren

11:53 am

stats for the third column A please

11:54 am

hmm what do you do about that red?

11:54 am

part of DC was swamp land too

11:54 am

dictator idi am** + plural

11:54 am

an4.4 is one of them, jmc

the colitis? I usually switch him to plain white rice and lots of walkies and water.

11:55 am

why don't i think of a mad man dictator when i look for words! *palm plant*

11:55 am

do you think the az 5 is the new word for idiot?

He seems to do this about one to two times a year.

11:55 am

ty dorens and snuffy

11:55 am

ty cyber

11:55 am

Nan, it's been the word for idiot in Jersey for years.

11:56 am

oops, sorry jmc.. clue was for fourth column a

11:56 am

no jersey jokes, molly, only by people FROM jersey. who really know and understand it

11:56 am

I hear cab drivers in NYC say that az

11:57 am

<==still looking for az

11:57 am

exactly.. more people in ny sound like the supposed jersey accent. and snooky is NOT from nj, but NY!

11:57 am

at 7-8, please?

11:57 am

looking for the z too

pretend jmc that the az is an as instead...

11:58 am

(do i sound touchy? sorry. But i live in a town called mountain lakes, which looks like it sounds, and all people do is make these dumb what exit jokes)

11:58 am

Mea culpa. I didn't know you had to be one of the anointed to make Jersey jokes.

11:59 am

same as jewish princess jokes... i can tell them ... and there are some really funny ones... but it becomes offensive when told by goyiim

11:59 am

brb ..

I will say I drove through NJ a few years ago and there was quite a bit of forest land. people don't know about that part of NJ. I probably shouldn't add that some of the most obnoxious people I know also come from NJ...

11:59 am

just got a text that the power is out at my house since last night because a tree hit the armenian church on corner

11:59 am

I'd love a couple good ones doren... go ahead

11:59 am

hello again

11:59 am

hahahaha red. i won't take offense, laughing outloud

11:59 am

hi ruby

11:59 am

been pedalling all afternoon LOL

12:00 pm

i get annoyed if anyone but lawyers tell lawyers jokes

:)

12:00 pm

za + first name of one of Frank's exes

12:00 pm

the best is kind of poor taste, but you'd love it ru. a less offensive one is "how can you tell when a jewish princess has an orgasm?"

jmc is your power out?

12:00 pm

hi ruby

12:00 pm

*Flushes sense of humor down the toilet*

Hello Babble Rabble, how are you?

hi Ruby!

12:00 pm

apparently but i am in toledo

12:00 pm

Hello, HT

12:01 pm

waiting for punchline

12:01 pm

hey there babrab

12:01 pm

soooo many choices BR but ty

12:01 pm

She drops her nailfile!

12:01 pm

farrow

12:01 pm

LOL

12:01 pm

no molly, your sense of humor is really quite good

12:01 pm

Ruby why were you pedaling?

12:01 pm

ah she really got around. . .ty BR

12:01 pm

is mrs ru one of the chosen peeoples?

jmc, you are a mover and a shaker.

12:02 pm

yes she is

12:02 pm

i thought so. will she laugh?

12:02 pm

well a mover . . . i try to avoid shaking

12:02 pm

from LONGGGGG island

12:02 pm

BS, you shake your booty all the time.

12:02 pm

i am sitting on a bench and i don't want the guy next to me to glare

12:02 pm

oh well booty. . . that's different

shake shake shake...shake shake shake...

12:03 pm

It's long guyland Ru

12:03 pm

i remembered that she was from longgisland. which makes her either jewish or italian, and my instinct said jewish. more your type

12:03 pm

good plan jm

12:03 pm

*grabs table and trys to hold on*

12:03 pm

lol

12:03 pm

da 6, please?

12:03 pm

Oops, I'm probably not supposed to make NY jokes either. *Puts on Hannibal Lecter mask*

12:03 pm

getting up to turn the airconditioning up a notch... this is really brutal today

12:04 pm

windows open here in napa

We are feeling the heat, but it is pretty typical, as it is almost July.

12:04 pm

mosily is not a word?

12:04 pm

Gloating becomes you, Ru.

12:04 pm

why did I have to run errands in this heat? LOVE my central A/C. Please, please no power outtages here.

Anyone have any plans for 4th of July?

12:04 pm

Tour de France, molly!

12:04 pm

50

12:05 pm

anyone have a clue for da 6?

12:05 pm

i will be hanging out with 2000 quakers pretending we aren't going to sneak off to see the local fireworks

12:05 pm

da + abb. for Hollywood city + spanish yes

12:05 pm

150

12:05 pm

Okay Ruby. Somehow, I didn't picture you on a bike.

12:05 pm

I don't mind the heat, it's better than all the rain and cold we had in Apr-May-June

12:05 pm

me? .. gloat?

12:05 pm

I would open windows if it weren't barely 60 here in the SF Bay Area

12:05 pm

*pours another glass of wine*

12:05 pm

gloat is your middle name

Nice jmc... is it un-quakerly to view fireworks? I was unaware.

12:06 pm

I thought hollywood was a city

12:06 pm

*throws brick towards erda's window*

Erda, I am a bit jealous.

12:06 pm

60 in SF? I'm checking flights.

12:06 pm

LOL jmc

12:06 pm

wine? come on. it is 10 am!!

12:06 pm

I used to be a good athlete, long distance running, just too old now

12:06 pm

not exactly but we aren't big on celebrating wars

Thinks that jmc may have been over-exposed to Quakerism if she is throwing bricks.

12:06 pm

hi ciocia!

12:06 pm

oh damn

12:07 pm

Oh come on. Independence day is not celebrating a war.

12:07 pm

hi CJ.. long time, no see

12:07 pm

*puts cork back in*

12:07 pm

hey i threw it at a window not a person!

12:07 pm

{{{aloy}}}

12:07 pm

one more sip, ru

I suppose that helps...

12:07 pm

hollywood is an area in a much larger city

12:07 pm

a brick a day keeps the windows away

12:07 pm

oh well -- will move on

12:07 pm

i know that . . . but you can't tell that at most independence day celebrations molls

12:08 pm

he wasn't drinking, just gloating about his superior place of residence!

12:08 pm

good to see you too, BabbleRabble!

12:08 pm

Hollywood is where LA stores all the wackos

12:08 pm

crap, some of the housemates are home

12:08 pm

Yes, all that aggressive hot dog eating and beer drinking is frightening.

12:08 pm

LOL Peri

12:08 pm

I only have the four-legged variety

12:08 pm

oh come on ru, they have wackos all over the STATE!

Ahhh. the war thing. I guess all the 4ths I've ever been too really just involved the setting off of the FW and no rhetoric...

12:09 pm

ty - got it

12:09 pm

yay, nan

12:09 pm

so hollywood is the free range psych ward

12:09 pm

no it is the military parades and bombs bursting in air. . . but i love my country if not all of its holidays

I think it sort of depends...

Bab Rab, I would still think West Palm beach rivals.

12:10 pm

okay the funeral is over so i am off to pick up my friend and drive to RI bbl

12:10 pm

safe trip, jmc!

12:10 pm

Uh, oh Red. My sister and her family are on their way right now to West Palm

12:10 pm

I just had some olive tapenade from trader joes on a piece of toast. hmm good

12:10 pm

drive safely jmc

12:10 pm

I have great respect for the military and I will show that respect any time they parade.

12:10 pm

<-- loves tapenade

12:10 pm

<==thinks there maybe wackos outside of California

12:10 pm

me too Molls

12:10 pm

always miss that ta4 New Mexico word

West Palm is really an odd place, but I think they may enjoy it.

12:10 pm

ya think?

12:10 pm

*poof*

JMC, enjoy the RI weather, its nice there.

12:10 pm

I will put some in the PB,ruby

12:11 pm

a city known for skiing

thanks Aloy for the ta word!

12:11 pm

going down to stay with family Red. I think actually in Palm Coast?

12:11 pm

I am white trash. I just eat olives and cream cheese.

12:11 pm

skiing? west palm?

12:11 pm

yw, red.. chat is flying by

12:11 pm

There is a documentary coming out soon .. may already be out, about the assault and rape epidemic in the military

12:11 pm

did I type in a word? unlikely since I don't even have half r anything longer than 7

12:11 pm

love olives and cream cheese

12:11 pm

I like that too,Molls

12:12 pm

*thinking about making a sandwich now*

12:12 pm

on Wonder Bread, I hope

12:12 pm

I read about that BR.. very scary stuff

Palm Coast is different....West Palm is pretty odd place.

I also read about it and was not pleased, Bab and Ruru.

12:12 pm

am i the only one whose mother taught her to spread philly cream cheese on wise potato chips? (brands are important in certain recipes). sounds disgusting, but soooo good. haven't had it in years, but my thighs and butt show the past damage

You know Dorens...it must be a NJ thing....;)

12:13 pm

I think there is something wrong these days with young kids who are going into the military for the wrong reasons

12:13 pm

How do you do that without the chips breaking?

12:13 pm

how about bologna and cream cheese with sweet pickles

12:13 pm

my mom did not teach me that Dorens

12:13 pm

saw a female lawyer who has written extensively on that problem in the military on bill maher, or jon stewart and it was terrible

12:13 pm

I put cream cheese on cookies, too

12:13 pm

we used to eat cream cheese and jelly sandwiches.. my classmates were horrified in the cafeteria, while they ate chitlins or some such sandwiches..

12:13 pm

a bronx thing! that is where i was born, and where my mom came from. but that was funny red

12:14 pm

Ihave had that Aloy,good

12:14 pm

several years ago, a women overseas in the military had a greater chance of being assaulted by a fellow soldier that getting killed.

12:14 pm

I avoid the cream cheese aisle

12:14 pm

116 left

12:14 pm

very yummy

12:14 pm

my granddaughter currently eats cream cheese and jelly for breakfast nearly every day. and i used to love it too. now disdain cream cheese

12:14 pm

Cream cheese and red pepper jelly is awesome.

12:14 pm

neufchatel is lower fat

12:14 pm

yes, molly, I love that

12:14 pm

cream cheese and mango chutney too.

12:14 pm

my mouth is watering

12:15 pm

ooh.. haven't tried that, Dorens

12:15 pm

*covers ears* LALALALALALALALALA

12:15 pm

i do resort to that aloy, when making my salmon spread. but try not to even eat that alone

12:15 pm

my sisters dipped potato chips in Miracle Whip!

12:15 pm

I love cream cheese and pepper jam

12:15 pm

how about blackberry jam on fried chicken?

12:15 pm

No Ruby, you lost me there.

12:16 pm

my sister and i also made potato chip sandwiches.. i know, sounds kind of gross

12:16 pm

Does miracle whip have a lot of snap to it?

12:16 pm

try it, it's wonderful

12:16 pm

crackle and pop too

12:16 pm

oooh, bab rab, in good form, i see

12:16 pm

Potato chips on tuna sandwiches. Yum.

12:16 pm

I got a low fat fried chicken-like recipe recently

12:17 pm

yup... did that too molly (thought it was a jersey thing, too)

12:17 pm

I think I need another dinner

12:17 pm

do you take the skin off first, ruru?

12:17 pm

my Mon made a tuna casserole with chips in it

12:17 pm

What exactly is the point of low fat fried chicken?

12:17 pm

getting hungry too

12:17 pm

i think i need lunch. and trying to clear my head of all these fattening ideas

12:17 pm

Just take a bag of Wise Potato Chips, open the top and EAT and enjoy.

12:18 pm

yes.. and you blend corn flakes and lightly coat the breasts and bake them.. not exactly fried.. but tastes a little similar

12:18 pm

I am getting hungry too

12:18 pm

hi there Annie!

12:18 pm

{{annie}}

12:18 pm

Ilove chips and french fries

12:18 pm

but not together

12:18 pm

hey there annie! i haven't bought a bag of potato chips in years. used to be on my weekly list

12:18 pm

Hi Aloy and ((ruby))

12:18 pm

and then you spread blackberry jam after it has cooled

12:18 pm

how about whole wheat panko ru?

12:18 pm

I buy low salt chips

12:18 pm

good idea, Dorens

12:19 pm

Hi Dorens, Potato chips was a staple at one time

12:19 pm

I crave salty stuff so don't ever buy chips

12:19 pm

hadn't considered that either

12:19 pm

genuardis/safeway markets will be changing to Giant next week. hope they are as good

12:19 pm

panko?

12:19 pm

We have Giant here, they are good.

12:19 pm

but how do they stick on the chicken? Saw one recipe where you dip the chkn pieces in mayo then the crumbs and bake..

12:20 pm

i have a serious problem with stacey's naked (no jokes, ru) pita chips. just the right amount of salt. SOOO addicting

12:20 pm

Panko is a Japanese-style breadcrumb traditionally used as a coating for deep-fried foods such as tonkatsu.

12:20 pm

dijon mustard, aloy?

12:20 pm

hmmm

12:20 pm

crispier than regular bread crumbs ruby, i think they are toasted first or something

12:21 pm

*Covers ears and will listen to no more fried chicken sacrilege*

12:21 pm

they are very good.. but expensive (Staceys).. yes, the mustard would be great, Dorens.. made dijon mustard chkn last night, jasmine rice and veggies.. but.. had to make a gravy, so there goes the low calorie recipe

12:21 pm

stepping away from the computer now, for my celery and grilled chicken lunch

12:21 pm

I liked Progresso all-purpose bread crumbs but they're now available here (or Progresso anything, for that matter)

12:21 pm

we have a local restaurant that has a fried chicken night.. (buttermilk soaked fried chicken)

12:21 pm

they are always sold out

12:21 pm

Panko’s crustless bread is coarsely ground into airy, large flakes that give fried foods a light, crunchy coating. The flakes tend to stay crispier longer than standard breadcrumbs because they don’t absorb as much grease

12:21 pm

not*

12:22 pm

with white gravy?

12:22 pm

Good fried chicken is hard to find.

12:22 pm

oooooh, ruru.. that is how my MIL used to fix chicken, and I've never been able to match her recipe.. soooo good!

12:23 pm

one of my friends makes really good fried chicken

12:24 pm

okay.. that's as far as I can get. I am going to be mad when I see all I've missed

12:24 pm

the gravy was a quickie one made with cream of celery soup, ruby

12:24 pm

gravy is so easy to make

12:24 pm

I could eat any kind of gravy on almost anything

12:24 pm

why take shortcuts?

12:25 pm

<---makes the best turkey gravy

12:25 pm

I am a pretty good cook ... as long as I can find the can opener

12:25 pm

used to love chicken-fried steak with white gravy and a fried egg when I travelled in the South

12:25 pm

I take shortcuts to get there more quickly

12:25 pm

Most people don't know how to make a good roux, which is the secret of any decent gravy.

12:26 pm

whisk whisk whisk

12:26 pm

was just thinking - patience and stirring

12:26 pm

do you put the giblets in your turkey gravy, ru?

12:27 pm

yes.

12:27 pm

Yeah, patience and stirring. Tell that to the microwave generation.

12:27 pm

<---doesn't and will never have a microwave

12:27 pm

amen, ru!

12:28 pm

we took ours out and replaced it with another oven

12:28 pm

time to scoot.. printer out of ink so I'm going to try the "refill" service at Walgreen's.. need to do some printing, so hope it works - fun chatting with you all.. ciao for now!

12:28 pm

may I have a clue for any 8 or 9 so I can at least get the boxes greyed

12:28 pm

I know people who don't even use their conventional ovens.

12:28 pm

<---Loves to cook

12:36 pm

I used to love to cook, but too tired now

12:38 pm

12:39 pm

12:41 pm

i'm fine thanks stid.how are you?

12:48 pm

12:48 pm

12:48 pm

hey... thanks for interpreting for me stid. took a break to communicate with my sister. we have more than enough sun here for you

12:49 pm

12:51 pm

I need a nudge to get the Z tile - second letter and count please?

12:51 pm

za 5/22 and za 6/36 (pl)

12:51 pm

Last summer we had a lot of rain and cold too -- but later in the season. This year we had a marvelous spring (many plants started too early) but so far it's a lot cooler and rainier than normal so the fruit aren't likely to sweeten properly

12:51 pm

Ah thanks! Will look for her but almost everyone is back home now.

3:10 pm

3:12 pm

That is sad, but with fires that huge, it's miraculous there were not more.

I want to get at least half way, and right now I am not there yet.

3:32 pm

I have 18 left. May as well find 17 and walk away. That would be a real challenge !

3:32 pm

molly--- what the hell is wrong with you??? you know thqt if i dont finish the grid my fingernails will fall off and something terrible will happen to kin kardashian

3:33 pm

You know you will NEVER do that Cos.

3:33 pm

yeah. you're right. i wouldn't.

I'd have trouble with that...

3:33 pm

That would be like an alcoholic leaving a half a glass of wine on a restaurant table.

I am just so happy today, eventhough my run failed, I managed to assemble a vaccuum by mself, and find my vehicle tag for july Whew!

3:34 pm

good analogy :)

sorry it was not good timing, but I had to share with someone...

3:35 pm

Stephen King tells a great story about how (in his drinking days) he could never understand how people could do that with wine. : )

3:35 pm

ohnice job red!

3:35 pm

No Red, good timing. Overcoming those small challenges can be very rewarding.

My new vac really sucks for real!

3:35 pm

What kind did you get?

3:36 pm

I need a new one. Mines old.

A Bissell Powerforce, I was surprised at how inexpensive they are.

3:37 pm

As long as it gets the job done. I remember the first time I put a vacuum together. It made my day.

3:38 pm

I need a new vacuum cleaner as well. One that plugs itself in, and tootles around the house on its own. Oh, and an iron which operates on it's own initiative....

3:38 pm

the first sa6 please?

3:38 pm

Evening all :-)

3:39 pm

Soodle needs a Roomba

My friend has a Roomba, and it does all that.

I wish I had an iron that would press appropriately withut me.

3:39 pm

Lunch meat Cos

3:39 pm

thanks molly

3:39 pm

A roomba? Is that the thing that has the power points in each room?

Its a little robot vac, it cruises around the house continually...

3:41 pm

Soodle are you thinking of those weird whole house vacuum systems?

3:41 pm

Oh my, I just Googled it. Yes! Yes Yes!!!!!

3:41 pm

fireworks

3:41 pm

Yay Cos!

Hooorrray Cos!!!!! Cos how are things in the fire district?

3:42 pm

Well done Cos!!!

3:42 pm

30% contained now. most evac zones have been lifted.

this is good news, my goodness was a difficult time.

3:43 pm

it was. the local news were on for 130 straight hours. last night they ended the live coverage so its under control now

3:46 pm

Cos, hit me up when you have seen the final episodes of Smash. I have some comments.

3:48 pm

ok will do!

3:48 pm

plan on finishing this week

3:48 pm

The Colorado fires were top news here as well, Cos. I am so glad you are safe and well.

3:49 pm

i have seen a rhoomba vac in action and unless you have low pile carpets and every stick of furniture is up tight against the wall, the think just bounces off of furniture like a pinball and becomes a 250 dollar cat toy(they love to ride it)

3:49 pm

glad you and yours are safe cosdem

3:50 pm

Soodle, question for you. There is a genetic disorder found amoung Jews with a lineage from Eastern/Central Europe. It's rare today due to genetic testing. But, read an article that there is a variant of it among the irish. Have you ever heard of this?

3:51 pm

Called Tay-Sach disease. Always fatal by age 5

3:51 pm

No, I haven't Bich. What sort of disorder?

3:52 pm

Neuro degenerative.

3:53 pm

I have never heard of it. And mercifully, child deaths are at an all time low here. Thats not to say that there is some disorder out there.....

3:53 pm

I think the testing for it is in the preliminary stages. There are problably as many Irish in the US as in Ireland

3:54 pm

'Not to say that there is NOT some disorder...'

3:54 pm

And there are so many Irish/Scots, etc.

3:55 pm

For sure, Bich, but, as I say, I haven't heard anything about it.

3:55 pm

hi all

3:55 pm

Hi peri

3:55 pm

Hey Peri :-)

3:55 pm

a family friend had a child with Tay-Sachs. he died when he was 5 I think. total care, very sad

3:55 pm

Don't worry Soodle. I'll see if I can find it on line

3:56 pm

94 left here and stuck

3:56 pm

It is a tedious grid, Peri.

3:56 pm

yes, but you know I will persevere, molls

3:57 pm

I have stayed in all day. must get out tomorrow no matter how hot it is

3:57 pm

Yes Peri, I know of your addiction.

3:57 pm

I could go out now or a little later but I have gotten

3:57 pm

lazy

3:57 pm

I'm feeling drained for lack of fresh air.

3:57 pm

I will probably kick myself when I see how many words I have missed, once I go to the list

3:58 pm

I am getting cabin fever

3:58 pm

I prefer fresh air over AC

3:58 pm

Why are you house-bound, Peri?

3:59 pm

it is very hot out today and I had no special plans so I am staying in. I am capable of going out if I want to

3:59 pm

I would die if I were housebound

3:59 pm

or If I could not read

4:00 pm

altho if I were housebound I would get a lot of reading done

4:00 pm

I opened the sliding glass door last night and it was like a steam bath out there.

4:00 pm

Soodle, that's the link

4:00 pm

I am reading a legal thriller by Lisa Scottoline. she writes a weekly article in the Phila Inquirer.

4:01 pm

Yes, I saw on the News how temperatures in the US are soaring. And thanks Bich... I googled it. What a nasty, hideous disease. :-(

4:01 pm

the book is called: Dirty Blonde

4:01 pm

it is a very nasty disease, Soodle

4:01 pm

i am reading fifty shades of grey, disappointing

4:02 pm

Ivey's reading Mommy porn! Ivesy's reading Mommy porn! : D

4:02 pm

really ivesy? I have not read it yet

4:02 pm

Mommy porn?

4:03 pm

Oh golly, Ivesy!! Do tell............

4:03 pm

lololol.. yes i am molly.. dont know what all the hype is about.. just another dirty book lol

4:03 pm

It is a nasty disease, but prenatal testing has eliminated a lot of it

4:04 pm

dominator, bondage, punishment and tons and tons of sex..... every which way lol.. tmi i know

4:04 pm

Peri..... 50 shades of grey is the new Lady Chatterly's Lover!

4:05 pm

4:12 pm

If you get a chance, have a read of a short story by an Irish writer called Frank O Connor, called First Confession. Or better still, listen to it on You Tube, narrated with a Cork accent. Absolutely hilarious.

4:12 pm

lol ivesy

4:12 pm

you are rite molly.. shades of grey is poorly written.repetitive..

4:13 pm

When I read that Shades Of Grey was originally a fan fiction on a Twilight internet board, I knew it would be drivel.

4:15 pm

100% correct, Moly. Its just the hoo-hah I am comparing!

4:16 pm

another great series.. twilight lol... and pc.casts vampire series... big rush on those

4:17 pm

in our childrens room we now have graphic novels for the kids.. very big with them...

4:19 pm

does this grid ever end.. jeez

4:20 pm

cheer up ruru.. 2morrow prob be 40 words

4:21 pm

http://tinyurl.com/7y2yfw4 -Worth a listen!

4:23 pm

There is nothing politically correct about the Twilight series. It's also poorly written and pays no attention to vampire lore.

4:23 pm

I thought it was a toothsome novel

4:23 pm

And the female protagonist is a dullard that no young girl should ever want to be like.

4:26 pm

My teen daughters read all the twilight books. And I didn't discourage them, because I am so happy to see them reading rather than tweeting or texting.

Hi all, I have recently read some fairly good mysteries by David Liss...sort f historical/financial mysteries....but of course they aren't all exciting or sexy soo.

4:28 pm

Hello Red :-)

4:29 pm

we have a program during the summer in the childrens rooms the kids sign a contract to read 15 books during a 5 weeks. if they do, they pick a book and get their name in it on plaque.

4:29 pm

why read it when you can live it?

nice ivesy!

4:30 pm

its very nice to see even the very young ones coming in to get their library cards. they r so excited

4:31 pm

i really like books set in ww 2 time.

4:32 pm

sorry , i do go on about books.

4:32 pm

I've never gotten the thrill of sex books Ru. I agree, why not live it.

4:33 pm

Don't be sorry Ivesy. I think that is a great program your library has.

4:33 pm

good evening all - back for the last 125

4:34 pm

agree molly, ru... just had to see what the hype ws about.

4:35 pm

Hiya Glan :-)

4:36 pm

Hi Soodle - how are you?

ivesy i think this is a safe place to go on about books. My mom was the childrens librarian when I was growing up...

4:37 pm

2nd en6 pls

4:37 pm

omg red.. that is great. did u spend alot of time at the library

4:37 pm

I'm very well Glan! And you?

4:38 pm

Perfick!

Probably more than I should have, had no baby sitter, so I went many many days of summer...

I think my Mom had a great impact though, because all my peers want to be her friend on facebook!

4:39 pm

my mom taught me how to make manhattans

is your dad don draper, ruru?

4:39 pm

lol ruru...

4:40 pm

no

4:40 pm

My son is dyslexic. Reading is a chore for him. I feel so bad that he has been denied the pleasure of a good book.

dade

4:40 pm

could you not get him into talking books soodle?

4:41 pm

I met a young man at the supermarket recently who did all his 'reading'via talking books on his iPod...

4:41 pm

Well, he is 21 now. Talking books and iPods didn't exist back when he was in the day!

4:42 pm

I can't even get into readin g them on a screen, never mind talking books - I have to stroke the pages LOL

4:42 pm

Me too. (Jesus! We are giving RuRu loads of fodder here.....)

4:43 pm

I do too Glant. I have a reading problem

4:43 pm

I am behaving myself

4:43 pm

shame on you - I could do with a laugh!

4:44 pm

come on, ruru, I could use a laugh too

4:44 pm

4:47 pm

When I've tried audio books in the car, I fond I miss great chunks of them at thise times when you really need ot concentrate. I guess they're great if you're going on a long drive on those long straight roads in Arizona or suchlike though..

4:48 pm

I listen to them on my nano IPod when I'm walking the fluffs

4:48 pm

I listen to them driving around town. It's much better than the radio.

4:48 pm

se 9/66 plz

I admit, I listen to NPR on the road, they have somehow perfected finding things I want to listen to that are not too engaging at the same time!!!

4:49 pm

i still have a cassette player i listen to when i walk :(

I do not like words that start with vowels, as they are harder for me...

Boys oh boys... you sure described it well, Bich.

5:12 pm

it does not seem to stop you cold, this grid, but it is more like wading through molasas or quicksand.seems to go on and on and on

5:14 pm

I have now conquered the first half of the alphabet... onto N

5:14 pm

when you get to z,you get a cookie,a glass of milk and a nap:) or a gin and tonic as the case may be

5:15 pm

something to look forward to then ;-)

5:15 pm

Meh!! I've struggled long enough. I'm off to bed. Night all, and to those who are battling the heat - stay strong. Nite all :-)

5:15 pm

5:17 pm

5:17 pm

they look like small jaguars

5:17 pm

they were hideously expensive here about 10 years ago

5:18 pm

both our bombays, this one and our 3 year old make are rescue shelter kitties

5:18 pm

male

5:18 pm

amazing that people pay loads of money and then abandon

5:19 pm

and makes are probably veen more valuable as you can charge for breeding

5:19 pm

na6/18????

5:19 pm

they love water, are long in the body, demand copious amounts of attention and latch onto a single person that they have decided to own lol

5:20 pm

all cats demand attention

5:20 pm

one way or another

5:20 pm

there is such a flood of abandoned cats here that all shelter cats come fixed, and micro chipped glant,we will not be breeding them

5:21 pm

Don't have it glan.

Thanks, Glan.

Because once you start, you should finish otherwise it kills your ranking? Because it will make you feel accomplished? Because I'm neurotic and hate leaving something incomplete?

5:49 pm

I never think of it as sausage.

That's because you're thinking Hebrew National.

5:50 pm

5:50 pm

I think it's funny that this game has rankings. But it's not competitive or anything. : )

Well, I still keep checking my e-mail. and have other compulsions.

Rankings? Why?

Not competitive, but once you see your name on the top of the list, you do feel pretty good about yourself. =)

I wouldn't know.

5:51 pm

for the first year i was that way.killing myself to finish, but no longer

5:52 pm

It's a hard thing to brag about to the unitiated.

6:10 pm

Solving the whole grid was worth 13,761 points for 744 words.

I almost wish that I could go back with a lickety list and do it...

6:13 pm

It's too bad no one copied Lickety from that day

6:13 pm

Oh but I think there is a list in Babanon.

Lickety would be better because at least I'd know if something really wasn't a word. Oh well! Here's to hoping there's another grid like that while I'm still around.

6:14 pm

Yeah, the stats are in Babanon, but they are hard to read.

I had someone ask me today if there was a way to cheat playing Words With Friends. People are so unaware of what is available on the internet.

that is why i stopped playing competitive word games. i don't think it is fun if you can just plug in to a site and empty your rack

8:03 pm

do

8:03 pm

my friend said his aunt is kinda... dumb yet she keeps getting super high scores in word with friends

wjy do you think that is?

8:04 pm

he thinks she is cheating for sure

8:05 pm

anagram program or something

8:06 pm

There are several web sites you can go to that you load in your Scrabble letters and it gives you the best words.

the worst is..i play with some awfully wordy folks and i can never e sure.

8:07 pm

And same thing with my friend, asellus. She is playing with someone who spells cookie/cokkie, and yet this person is playing genius Words With Friends words.

8:07 pm

yeah... whats the point of playing if you are going to cheat

8:32 pm

thanks, wht, i didn't have those yet :)

8:32 pm

how goes, molly?

yay wht!

hello jes

8:33 pm

Not bad Jes, and you?

8:34 pm

could be worse :)

8:35 pm

Well, I think that it is time for me to wander off. Thanks for all the clues.

8:36 pm

g'night, wht

8:38 pm

what are the stats for the e in lower left please?

8:39 pm

oh, nevermind. that was dumb.

8:44 pm

how about the stats for the z? i promise not to find them immediately after asking.

8:45 pm

za5/22 and za6/36

8:46 pm

thanks, molly. nbt.

8:51 pm

Says bruce totally out of nowhere: "That is NOT what research says!" Then he returned to reading his webpage.

8:52 pm

These are the times you pat them on the head, say "yes dear" and continue on with what you are doing.

9:00 pm

hehehe

9:00 pm

Actually, I laughed because it is exactly the sort of thing I'd do.

9:00 pm

ne

9:01 pm

hi all!

9:01 pm

Are you one of the knights, razor?

9:01 pm

salinate is a word ,but not here??

9:01 pm

hi scrambler

9:01 pm

hi jes

9:03 pm

sorry the bat didn't make it. bats are having tough times in Vermont as well due to a fungus or bacteria near the nose I think. They are great pollinators :[

9:04 pm

fungus, yes. hasn't been found here yet, but fish and wildlife is monitoring for it.

9:04 pm

same thing with bees, I think pesticides have played a part in this

9:08 pm

Aw, poor Bitey. Nice of you to give her a good home for her final days, Jes.

9:13 pm

heheheh. i do so like me some garfunkel and oates. :)

9:14 pm

yeah, not really sure what was wrong with her, molly, but i kinda suspect rabies

9:15 pm

Ew, rabies.

9:16 pm

does that make you a Rabid supporter?

9:16 pm

hmmm.... no. i don't have the energy for that, ru.

9:19 pm

maybe batty about your patients?

9:21 pm

definitely that

9:26 pm

jes, i just got to ride one of my horses for the first time since 4/6, colic surgery, large intestine sand impaction, they flushed 32 gallons of whatever out of him

9:27 pm

Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today

9:27 pm

By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!

9:28 pm

wow. it took me 4 times reading that to realize that 4/6 was a date, not a stat! :D

9:29 pm

glad he made it through the surgery, scrambler

9:29 pm

hi min

9:31 pm

you shouldn't take him to playgrounds scrambler

9:35 pm

"4/6 was a date, not a stat"...This is a clear warning sign that you need to back away from Babble.

9:36 pm

*boxes up humor and puts back on shelf*

9:36 pm

don't get between me and the grid, woman!

9:36 pm

Hey Ru, quit it. It's my job to be sensitive here, not yours. : P

9:37 pm

ru saw something.... thought ud like it. lemme try to remember what it says...

9:37 pm

ah yes... "puns are their own rewords" (i guess its funnier on the comic)

9:38 pm

cos! you're not singed too much???

9:38 pm

No, I think it works without the comic.

9:38 pm

hi stid :)

9:38 pm

we're fine! 50% contained now.

9:39 pm

we're 50% restrained over here

9:39 pm

Hello stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog.

9:39 pm

glad to hear that! *relieved mama look* For a while there it was just getting worse and worse*

9:39 pm

olean

9:39 pm

lol

9:39 pm

Oops!

9:39 pm

sorry fell asleep ganite all

9:39 pm

hey min -- hope your weekend is going well

9:39 pm

olean?

9:40 pm

tuesday is the day we're all calling "the day hell broke loose" --- but by thurs they got it back under control and away from the city

9:40 pm

wonder if Olean is related to Paddy O'Tilt

9:41 pm

LOL ruru

9:41 pm

Yes, his cousin, Seamus O'Lean. They are drinking buddies.

9:41 pm

lol

9:42 pm

Seamus had baby recently it was a New O'lean

9:43 pm

*wraps humor back up and puts BACK on shelf*

9:44 pm

it's a good thing, cos, that they have managed to get it finally, so sad that it has done so much damage

9:45 pm

*Appreciates Ru's humor, sitting on the shelf, from afar*

9:50 pm

:D

9:50 pm

Evening all. May I please have a clue for te6-18 the 1st? Thanks

9:51 pm

hey peach

9:51 pm

Hi there, stid.

9:51 pm

I haven't listed yet so don't know which one that would be

9:51 pm

Thanks anyway, stid.

9:53 pm

Hello gapeach1066! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle.

9:54 pm

Hi there, Min.

9:54 pm

te + what hammers hit

9:54 pm

Thanks so much, ruru.

9:55 pm

oooh! grazie, ruru!

9:55 pm

thanks, ru

9:55 pm

ywe

9:57 pm

ywe? *Thinks of a joke, but doesn't say it*

9:58 pm

oh! down to 100! *proud accomplished mama look*

9:58 pm

yay stid!

9:58 pm

such restraint

10:00 pm

are handcuffs involved?

10:00 pm

maybe a jacket in this case

10:01 pm

well.. I'd best get my butt to the store to get fixins for dinner.. not sure what to make

10:02 pm

bye all..

10:02 pm

We didn't make supper today. I had popcorn...

10:02 pm

see you later, ruru

10:02 pm

sounds like the peri-diet stid

10:02 pm

yay dinner! we had macaroon cookies with chocolate butter creme frosting for dinner, ru. do that, it was good.

10:03 pm

does anyone here eat regular food?

10:03 pm

that sounds filling, jes....

10:03 pm

the french style cookies, not the coconut layered things (though those are also delish)

10:04 pm

define regular food? yesterday we had african peanut sweet potato soup. (no, there were no africans in the soup)

10:04 pm

oh, that's even better. I am suddenly feeling very hungry.

10:04 pm

Not "regular food" like lettuce drizzled with olive oil and celery sticks for lunch.

10:04 pm

I had a sort of a veggie thingy yesterday at a restaurant, that was pretty normal. And sushi.

10:05 pm

tom made me scrambled eggs for breakfast, too.

10:05 pm

We had hamburgers and macaroni salad for dinner tonight. That does not count as "regular food" in this crowd.

10:05 pm

He's a keeper. stid.

10:06 pm

bruce points out that there's an awful lot of men cooking for wives going on here. i think that's a good thing :)

10:06 pm

he says yes, it's a good thing, because he cooks better than i do. :P

10:07 pm

I agree -- I was under the weather a bit today, so wasn't really up to cooking. Tomorrow I hope to do a bit, though.

10:08 pm

Tom does many lovely things -- breads, pies and such. I am the stir-fry and sauce person.

10:08 pm

we sort of split the difference in our home. And Grant now does most of the cookies.

10:09 pm

half and half is a good mix :)

10:09 pm

Wait, wait. An awful lot of men cooking for wives here? As in "here" as in Babble?

10:09 pm

yup

10:10 pm

that segment of chat was ru cooking for mrs, tom cooking for stid, him cooking for me...

10:11 pm

I do the cooking here, though there's no wife involved ..

10:11 pm

i think ill make macaroni salad. thanks molly :)

10:12 pm

:-) I like cooking, fresh-made, home-cooked food is so fine.

10:12 pm

macaroni salad... I could do that for our lunch tomorrow, cos! great idea!

10:12 pm

and molly too -- sorry I missed the earlier comment.

10:13 pm

Kudos to Cos and Tor.

10:13 pm

they lifted the fire ban so we can grill on the 4th

10:14 pm

*shakes head in amazement* I don't think I would want to have any sort of outdoor fire yet around there.

10:14 pm

Good news, Cos. Hide in the corner and light a sparkler too. : )

10:14 pm

*looks outside*.... no bbq here. the rain will put it out.

10:15 pm

we have a bit of blue sky coming in, don't know if that means tomorrow will be clear or not though.

10:16 pm

down to 90. going to head out, maybe see you-all tomorrow. *poof*

10:16 pm

will prob sneak a sparkler. but will not take out my bottle rockets

10:16 pm

bye stid

10:17 pm

bye stid

10:19 pm

*Still trying to do the math on "awful lot"

10:19 pm

Goodbye stidmama! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log

10:20 pm

I am stopping at 250 words and 2929 points. I am also out!

10:20 pm

perhaps he meant "a higher than expected proportion given societal norms"?

10:20 pm

Goodnight Min

10:20 pm

Goodbye to my fellow babblers! I'll see ya tomorrow maybe

10:20 pm

g'night, min

Hi Min and jes.

10:22 pm

hi neil

10:46 pm

Good Evening Everybody. I'm not going to even start this grid; 1st time her today (and for most of the week) and this is too beig to even start when I'm tired... :-) How are you all today?

10:47 pm

hi nef

10:47 pm

hi jes. How are you these days?

10:49 pm

pretty good, though i'd be better if i could find someone to take a cat

10:52 pm

Sorry, Jes. I'm here in MN and am allergic to cats; but have inherited Aunty's cat last year when Aunty died. Ashes is about 12 years old, went through that fire in Aunty's condo, and has adjusted to living here quite well. But if you live anywhere close to Missoula MT I know where you could "drop off" a cat and my stepmother would take care of it! ;-) (She referred to herself as "that crazy cat lady" at one point of her life when she was taking care of 12 stray cats ...

10:54 pm

i know. didn't mean i should ship him to you... but he's been here a month or so and still fighting with my cats, and doesn't want to share the litter boxes

10:55 pm

uh-oh. That's a problem

10:55 pm

yeah :(

10:55 pm

gettin' pretty fed up with the peeing thing.

10:55 pm

Is he marking his territory too?

10:56 pm

he's peed on every dog bed, the kid's chair, my bag, and bruce's shoes.

10:56 pm

frustrating.

10:56 pm

and icky

10:56 pm

Oh, my! What do you do with a cat like that?

10:57 pm

try to find him a home with no other cats and a sucker human who will buy insulin and expensive food.

10:58 pm

um, I won't give you my step mother's name or address then. She'd spend the $$ on the cat and forget to buy food for herself!

10:59 pm

heh. it's not bad if you're only feeding/treating one, because insulin lasts a long time... but still.

11:05 pm

My stepmother is rather poor and would spend her food money on a cat instead of herself. And she's lost her sense of smell so wouldn't be able to tell if there was cat pee on something or not (even though everyone else could smell it a block away....

11:06 pm

heh. he's probably not a good option for someone who's already got money issues

11:06 pm

I don't know how you can handle that situation with that cat when you've got other animals around, jes.

11:06 pm

then again, i'm not sure someone with serious money issues should be getting new pets of any sort... they're rather an expensive hobby

11:07 pm

it's to the point that i won't/can't handle it much longer. he'll either quit now that we've built a porch/yard thing or he'll get put down if I can't find a new home.

11:09 pm

she always takes care of the neighborhood stray cats. She once had my Dad make a dozen boxes on their back porch with flap panels and blankets etc. so that the cats could come and go in the wintertime.

11:10 pm

somebody's gotta feed the ferals, i guess... though that gets expensive too

11:11 pm

hey nef and jes, cheerful conversation you two have going... *rolls eyes*

11:11 pm

sorry, stid, i'm a depressing sort

11:12 pm

rough week, jes?

11:12 pm

she'd take them to a friend who was a vet if they needed some treatment for something

11:12 pm

hi stid.

11:12 pm

hey nef, how are you? getting enough sleep? *worried mama look*

11:12 pm

bit of one, yeah

11:13 pm

sorry to hear that jes

11:13 pm

saturday hours are 8-noon. came home at 4:30 tonight. heading back again to check on a hospitalized cat in a few minutes. 2 emergencies last night so didn't get home until 11:30 last night, one of those died today.

11:14 pm

stid, we have our grandson full time for now. DIL is in the hospital(psych) for who knows how long. SOrry about the WwF game

11:15 pm

(((jes)))

11:15 pm

well, poop. I am allergic to cats and can't afford a horse... wish I could help...

11:15 pm

I knew you had him for a while, didn't know it was going to be so long-term, Nef. I haven't had the energy for the Words game this week either.

11:16 pm

I figure we'll play when it's convenient and fun, not as an obligation. **hugs**

11:16 pm

Oh, good! I was worried that you'd think I fell off the planet or something!

11:16 pm

health problems, stid?

11:17 pm

busy mostly, but two allergic reactions this week. Today has been a rough one, pretty out of it.

11:18 pm

allergies are no fun

11:18 pm

I understand. I'm reacting to my allergy shots; need to take Benadryl and then spend the next 1 1/2 days totally zoned out from the Benadryl

11:18 pm

any word on how the dil is doing, nef?

11:20 pm

I have heard that allergy shots are pretty awful in general. My allergies generally don't have shots available, I have been told.

11:22 pm

We're trying to get her in to anintensive treatment center at the moment, jes. She was sexually abused as a child by a relative and by her stefather as a pre-teen; and is bipolar and personality disorder to boot. My son has loved her and stuck by her through a whole bunch of stuff; but she'd reached the point she was suicidal and would have carried it out this past week except there was no one there to care for her son.My son is in his busy season and working nights right now; so that doesn't help either

11:24 pm

wow Nef.

11:24 pm

stid, the allergy shots are strictly for vespid stings (bees, wasps, and 2 types of hornets for me); and my upper arm swells up from shoulder to elbow; but I'm trying to get through thisanyway.

11:24 pm

how old is grandson?

11:25 pm

3 year old, jes. Very busy; and pretty much a hand-full right now.

11:25 pm

wow, nef -- seems the cure is nearly as bad as the ailment

11:27 pm

He calls his Mama on the play phone, but won't talk to her when she calls. He can't go to see her either; and he can't understand why he could see his PaPa (my DH) when he was in the hospital but can't see his Mom there too

11:27 pm

that's an exhausting age

11:27 pm

Nef -- does he have preschool or a playgroup where you can let your guard down for a while? Kids that age are exhausting

11:28 pm

It's summer, so his kinder muzic is on break and his ECFE group is off for the summer. Besides, he's at our house and those are where they live (35 miles across town)

11:28 pm

snap, jes

11:29 pm

I'm going to take him to storytime at our local library this next week, probably to the community center

11:29 pm

Any teens around who can help for a few hours sometimes? Just so you can take a bath in peace or something. When my boys were that age (2 and 4 actually) the neighbor girl came over a couple afternoons a week for me.

11:29 pm

ugh. and the MIL just emailed bruce to ask if we'd take her dog. apparently it attacked one of her cats. Bruce pointed out that we have cats. and rabbits. and roosters. why would we want the dog?

11:30 pm

That sounds great -- and you know places like Barnes and Noble have storytime?

11:30 pm

oh jes, it just gets better and better, right? *shakes head sadly*

11:31 pm

maybe a library for reading hour?

11:31 pm

or, you know, you could totally already be on that and i could have missed your comment from 2 minutes ago. d'oh.

11:32 pm

alternatives include Ikea, which has a play room for little kids (and mock living rooms where you can "try out" the furniture)...

11:32 pm

otay. i think that with that display of inability to concentrate on a simple, linear conversation, i'm gonna go check the cat at the clinic and try to sleep tonight. Hugs, ladies!

11:32 pm

My dtr will be taking him to the musical "Suocial" (??) tomorrow

11:33 pm

Seussical?

11:33 pm

(((jes))) Good night

11:33 pm

That is a fun little show

11:33 pm

jes, be well ((hugs))

11:33 pm

Hi everyone! Is this todays, July 1 or yesterdays grid ? I forget what time zone it is in.

11:34 pm

Thankyou stid! I couldn't speel that and tried and tried!

11:34 pm

it's the June 30 grid MaMaWA

11:34 pm

another 25 minutes or so until flip

11:34 pm

Good luck starting now, MaMaWA! ;-)

11:35 pm

I am stalled at 88, refusing to list today

11:35 pm

Haha Nef that is why I asked I will wait for flip~!

11:36 pm

Our community center has a 3 story climbing center with slides and ropes and all sorts of fun stuff, stid; plus a pool (actually 3 I think) and a child center too.

11:36 pm

oooh. that's nice, Nef! We don't have fancy things like that around here.

11:37 pm

and we are within 3 blocks of 4 different parks with playgrounds, plus the lake down the street with fishing and swimming and another playground. The thing we lack is friends near us with small kids.,

11:38 pm

(My "adopted Iranian grandkids now live 30 miles in the opposite direction from my son

11:38 pm

Well, having one under your wing, you'll make some new friends, I expect.

11:39 pm

your network does seem a bit spread out, nef

11:39 pm

unfortunately true, stid

11:41 pm

We did go see our Iranian friends on Wed. though. The 3 kids get along like cousins; they had a blast!

11:41 pm

That's marvelous!

11:42 pm

well... I should wander off and read some more. Tomorrow I should be well enough to be active. Today I was just so foggy. I'll "see" you again soon I imagine, be well Nef -- and remember "nap when they nap" *Poof*

11:43 pm

Nap? What's that?

11:43 pm

good night stid. Be well....

11:50 pm

Laundry is calling. Good Night and Happy Babbling to Everyone.
