widely known from the movie "drag me to hell"
Clues are up
Thank you, whoever you are...
So, reading about her in wiki - shouldn't that be a proper noun, like Loki or Thor?
ty mrp!!!
hm now i wonder if it has another meaning
dictionary.com also says it means female vampire
such a demonical grid with the la5 and damian and satan in it too

I love love love Sean of the Dead! I will now watch Fido
Time for me to crash, though. Still recovering from surgery :( so have to take it easy. 123 left for the morning.
what kind of surgery rast.. you okay?
Just saw your Fox News remark, ruru -- I salute you!
they fused L4-L5. Supposed to stop the sciatica which is the worst thing I've ever felt. It's true surgery was a drop in the bucket compared to that. Some residual neuropathy but I trust it'll recede with time
half way *crash* -- see you tomorow
ouch rast..
clue for z?
yes, but worth it to solve the other problem. They found a synovial cyst that was the main cause of the pain, but think that was rubbed up by the out-of-line vertebrae. It's all cleaned out now, should be ok once all this is done.
za5/6
I'm pretty much back to functional, just no extra energy.

hi granny
have just completed first run through grid, 72 to go, not bad for someone loaded up with morphine.
hi granny -- how are you today?

hello all. glad to see that cosdem is OK - I was worried. Also, grannyrose - good to hear from you and I hope they sort out the medication a.s.a.p.
hi scouser
fire is now 25% contained. we're all very optismic
hi jillibus. a world of wierd weather - we have avoided the worst but other places in UK flooded and travel disruption. Yep, an ordinary English summer!
nbt
I think I cannot spell weird ?
i before e except after c -- unless it's weird
which makes it weird
cosdem - that 25% is a marked improvement in two days. Let us hope the wind speeds keep very low.
Old English strikes again
we've had an almost record cold, wet and sunless June :-(
Fireworks
wd anike
a mere nbt/nbs here
yay, anike! :)
TY - now I must get ready for my son's birthday party so bye for now and happy babbling
happy bday, anike's son! How old is he?
He's 28- getting old - or rather, making me feel old
He and our daughter bought a house together a couple years ago so at least the mess is there and not here - I just have to do some finger food to help our
Bye everyone
a certain theme la4ly, concerning kids and non-traditional lifestyles, as in, they don't seem to just get married and/or go off and have a "normal" life these days, huh? wonder if I can get our son and daughter to go buy a house somewhere? not likely as he drives her almost as nuts as he does us...
I still like the idea of selling the house to them and running off to a new one of our own, but Hubs says not likely, rats.
Morning/Night all - that sounds like a lovely idea Rbud - but we are fotunate that my son (but not my husbands) lives with my mum
he loves coming to visit but wouldn't want to stay with us
has anyone finished today yet?
I was thinking of crossy's story from the other night, of his friend whose kids kept moving back home again, with mates and even kids, until they gave up and sold them the house and got another one for themselves, the new empty nest. sounded like a good idea. :)
anike did
but I came in la4, had net problems, and haven't read back in the chog to see if others did.
that is quite a nice thought - I have a colleague who when we all moved from the southeast to Devon for work left his kids in his house there and bought new in Devon - which is a lovely gesture as housing is ridiculously expensive if you are new to the market
I have nbt, nbs, and nbg. nbg is "no blank groups" in the list, if you get what I mean.
I was late getting here too and only saw anike finish.
good for you JIlli = no 7.8.9 yet and one or two tiles to get
However, I am off out shortly and not sure when i will be back. We went to see a comedian last night - all you brits out there - if you want a laugh that might make you pee, see Dave Gorman
I have 3 7's and a 9 but no 8's so far.
But I'm not even halfway and am going to bed. Probably won't bother with this tomorrow -- don't like this grid, full of useless words. It also eliminates over half the letters in the alphabet. Bah.
i'm still here, lurking. would you like the 8's and 9's?
try for do 8/9. start at the bottom and meander upwards
go for it, diz, morphine messing with my head. lol
thanks diz - that gave me one of each only a 7 to go
LOL granny, how did the op go???xoxo
So bye all and have fun!...*poof
op went very well, already up, weight-bearing on crutches
night jilli, sleep well, hun
bye jilli
Kazz, try do 6/7...start from the same D
good morning Babble friends

moda
hello hello no no
hi everyone
hello cos. How are yu doing?
intoxicated but coherent :)
nice combination
intoxicated, I tend to fall asleep before I become incoherent
a friend made me go to her brother's house party
im 33.. these kids are 21-23... im like wow.. if this is our future......
you are so young, cos! 33 is a great age!
it is yes. i agree.
id prefer 25 but yeah lol
everything is in front of you and you can still make more than one career change
33 was better than 23 and 43 was the absolute best!
and now it's time for apero and, soon after, the "kick off" of the Tour
see you later
bACK AGAIN, AFTER LUNCH, WARMING UP FOR THE tOUR
whoops, sorry for caps
Hi Ruby--have you picked the winner?
i'm hoping that it's Cadel again, but the Tribune said that Bradley Wiggins could be a winner. Not
I learned, from the restaurateur at lunch, that next year, The Tour will have a contre-le-montre around "our" lake again. Yay for that!
who i really liked was...greg? before lance
lemonde
Yes!
a little bit before I followed it. Have only been following it for 15 yrs, since I moved here
maybe le monde....lol
do you like it, too, jayk? Frenchwomen hate it
my husband, too
ooh--not going by your house this year?
i do! for one thing--like tennis players--they
re all good looking
only went by once. But around Lac d'Annecy another year
if you like gaunt and shaved legs! LOL
i do like gaunt
7 am here and gotta get to wotk
work
gaunt had its good points (lol) but I'm not so interested now (too old)
wotk could be OK, too
i'm older than you--one can still look
nobody is older than I! hahah
even looking makes me tired
70 in 6 weeks. dear lord!
OK, you've got me by 2/3 of a year. Where does the time go???
i have NO idea! it's really something, isn't it?
also depressing
but the 40's were certainly splendid!
I think of all the friends I've lost, so don't mind being so old, except on the rainy, cold days
yes they were! but i think the 30s and the 50s were also splendid. what i did with my 20s is beyond me
20's were a mess!
amen. now must be off
and wasted, except for my son who was born when I was just 20!
{{jayk}}
jayk and I joined the same month
completely--except for the babies. really gone now
watching the news and thinking of seain in DC -- no power since storms hit last nite and temps back up to 100 today -- aacckk!
poor seain! is that Debby-related?
109 here yesterday and we need rain . . . but not violent storms like so many had yesterday!
at best, DC has a terrible climate. Before they controled it, it was a hotbed of malaria
no, ruby -- think it's just part of the recordbreaking heat wave
we are very lucky here; it's hot, but manageable
was just channel-surfing and saw some "pre-Tour" footage -- thought of you! :-)
need to check on something on stove BRB
warming up!
i'm back . . . wow, millions without power in mid-Atlantic and some may not be restored for "several days" -- what a nightmare in this heat
It was a wicked electrical storm. Fortunately, I still have power.
that's great, molly! Was wondering about DC Seain . . .
Name that Proper Noun: French writer
I was without power for 3 days in severe heat once. I would rather be without in severe cold. Warmth is easier to "create" that coolness.
emile zola
J'accuse!
lots of proper names today . . . emile, emily, zola, somali, etc :-)
Nate, Sean
yep :-)
... gonna be a long slow hot struggle today ... ... have fun in the grid
natalie
natalia
<---Will not count the Cyrus creature as a proper name
LOL!!
Cyrus creature?
Billy Ray's girl
:-D
If you don't know who she is, more power to you.
Billy Ray?
Hmmmm, I don't
achy breaky heart godthaab ??
Oh yea, an old song.....
finally found the do8 and 9
and hello all
his daughter
hey, ursh :-)
Oh.......
back in a mo *poof*
grand daughter is 13 tomorrow - off to help her Mum re-do the bedroom in black white and silver !!! just love new teenagers
Hope there is a shade tree outsider her window with those colors that will absorb and reflect heat
gm, everyone. stats for the z?
Gm, lbdawg, za5/22 ,za6/36
za5/22 and za6/36
ty, will work on it.
add one of Franks exes, Farrow
name that proper noun---a continent
Asia
ding ding ding!
Bacon, sausage, eggs and bagels on the sideboard!
Molly, you are a gem..
I made an early breakfast and I'm trying to do a little prep cooking in case we lose power.
God forbid.
ditto. We are going to a pool party in New Jersey today.
Name that proper noun--an African country
Good day for the pool. Although it this keeps up, they are all going to have tepid water in them.
Somalia
ding ding ding!
another proper noun---Isreali leader, Moshe *****
Dayan!
ding ding ding!
It's easy to win when you are the only one playing : D
yes, but you are good at the "proper noun" game
Molly, how hot is it in Maryland now?
Last time I checked it was 78.
about the same here
I feel bad for the power crews, having to go out and clean up after last night's storm.
Yes, me too. I wonder how cos is doing.
I hope he is okay. My doorbell is ringing. see you later
zipping thru on way out the door -- Cos and Ryan are fine -- they ended up not having to evacuate :-)
hi all, saw the clue for the z's but can't find them
i know i usually lurk..but had to share 1. i love that my icon is in the grid! 2. i had my 3 year cancer-free appt earlier this week and everything is okie dokie!!

yep...down to one bloodwork every 6 months. don't have to have another colonscopy this year!! that's next year!
yaaaa! have to love gulping a gallon of that peglyte and living in the bathroom eh?
oh yeah...loads of fun lol i make sure i have plenty of reading material :)
48 Ls? sigh
you haad to tell me that...:(
another rugrat on the way. my youngest nephew and his wife are having a baby in Sept. I will be a great aunt for 4th time. more baby gifts to buy *sigh*
wonderful, peri!
but I am a good little shopping will start checking out sales pretty soon. never can go wrong with books.
will be a girl and they are more fun to buy for than boys, imho
good little shopper,even
Good news Peri. I agree, shopping for girls is more fun.
my mom use to crochet a baby blanket for each grandchild
i think there is more to choose from for girls than boys
my friend has knitted a blanket for each of her grandchildren
Those are the best gifts. Home made blankets and quilts. I still have two blankets that were crocheted for my kids thirty years ago.
my great niece who is 8, loves to read and I am always buying and mailing books to her. she is thrilled to get them
that's what i do...the baby blanket, but i crochet them
for kids who like to read, you just cannot go wrong with books
I am pretty good at choosing the right kind. at the moment she love Nancy Drew.
and goodwill has the best prices on used books
as a kid i would have rather had a book than a barbie dall anyday!!
me too littlebit
i can safely say that 99.9% of babblers are also book lovers
and word lovers
you're probably right
and start their kids young on reading - and they grow up as book lovers
bibliophile <---
same
I don't understand it when someone says they do read. there are so many types of books to choose from.
my son has been allowed to read any book on my shelves without censorship from age ten and he always seems to choose wisely
my Mom always read to us when we were liitle and I was so anxious to be able to read myself. In the 1st grade our teacher took our class to the Main Public Library. I thought I was in heaven when I got my first library card.
THE CARD! remember when it got stamped for the adult section?..the world was your oyster
i can remember growing up and you had to be able to write your own name to get a library card and i practiced so i could do it and was so proud when i got my own card
my mom tells me i was mad when i came home my first day of school cause they didn't teach me how to read
lol
The first book I remember my grandmother reading for bedtime stories was Huckleberry Finn. I had to have been 4 or 5 at the time. Great memories
Mary Poppins and the Wizard of Oz. were the first books that I remember
good books! my favorite was charlotte's web!
some pig!
It is unfortunate that so many parents no longer read to their kids.
being read to me
dr. doolittle
I always read to the little ones
I just gave my nephew who lives close by: Guess How Much I Love You. His moms says he likes it.
the kids love it when we read to them at school!!
I always wanted to get a vanity tag for the car: IREAD. It spells out all of our initials
all my nieces and nephews get books from me at christmas - they all know it and expect it. Several years back I gave my then 13 year old nephew a game b/c I had seen it and knew he would love it.... around new years he asked me where his book was
oh, clever bichon
haha good one bichon
ill never forget reading the hobbit to my son, when i acted out the dwarves smashing all of bilbo,s crockery,my son got so excited.then we sang the plate smashing song together..;)
aww,kje
they note the traditions pretty quickly, peri - I was surprised he had noticed
they get books from me at christmas and birthdays and sometimes inbetween
nice stories!
no one else seems to give them books :(
they don't need to peri - you do!
:)
and you know waht kind they like :)
I do :)
give a person the gift of a good book and you give them the world
Peri, I think books are a great gift for kids. Look how many people here just related their favorite childhood books.
I really hadn't set out to consciously only buy thembooks, but it ended up that way a couple years and now it is expected
you're talking to the converted, molly :)
on another note I saw the movie: Albert Nobbs. Glen Close was wonderful in her role as a man. She played a waiter/butler.
for my personal childhood book it would be charlie and the chocolate factory
Peri, I was wondering how she would do in that film.
she is very good. and plays an odd little man.
I saw it on netflicks
my fave was "from the mixed up files of mrs basil e frankweiler"
m dream was to run away and live in a museum
It takes a pretty good female actress to do a male role well.
lol
I wonder how many kids tried that after reading that book, cross
I think glenn close and meryl streep are excellent actors and can take on almost any role
That is a great book, kje and a Newberry medal winner I believe.
i used to hang out at the local candy shoppe and wonder if it was run the same way as mr wonka ran his
when I was a young adult I wanted to be a clow and run away with the circus :)
I took the day off from work and auditioned for clown but was not accepted :(
ooooooh - yes, that would have been fun too, peri
for clown college but was not accepted
can you juggle?
Peri would be such a good clown name. You could dot the i with a flower. : D
my siblings and I used to string a car tow rope between two trees in the backyard and practice walking on the high wire
got the breath knocked out of me a lot falling off that thing, amazing none of us broke any bones
well I was a volunteer clown at the local hospital a few years ago and my name was, wait for it: DR PURRFECT!!
I have pictures somewhere
fun peri
but got tired of being in hospitals. have worked in them all my life
brb
and i have nbt so i am off to get dressed and start my day! bbl have a great day all!! :)
my mind is boggled, only 29 of 48 Ls have appeared to me. I am off to teach my bowling class , will see you guys later, I hope

the gravy was a quickie one made with cream of celery soup, ruby
gravy is so easy to make
I could eat any kind of gravy on almost anything
why take shortcuts?
<---makes the best turkey gravy
I am a pretty good cook ... as long as I can find the can opener
used to love chicken-fried steak with white gravy and a fried egg when I travelled in the South
I take shortcuts to get there more quickly
Most people don't know how to make a good roux, which is the secret of any decent gravy.
whisk whisk whisk
was just thinking - patience and stirring
do you put the giblets in your turkey gravy, ru?
yes.
Yeah, patience and stirring. Tell that to the microwave generation.
<---doesn't and will never have a microwave
amen, ru!
we took ours out and replaced it with another oven
time to scoot.. printer out of ink so I'm going to try the "refill" service at Walgreen's.. need to do some printing, so hope it works - fun chatting with you all.. ciao for now!

za 5/22 and za 6/36 (pl)
Last summer we had a lot of rain and cold too -- but later in the season. This year we had a marvelous spring (many plants started too early) but so far it's a lot cooler and rainier than normal so the fruit aren't likely to sweeten properly

I want to get at least half way, and right now I am not there yet.
I have 18 left. May as well find 17 and walk away. That would be a real challenge !
molly--- what the hell is wrong with you??? you know thqt if i dont finish the grid my fingernails will fall off and something terrible will happen to kin kardashian
You know you will NEVER do that Cos.
yeah. you're right. i wouldn't.
I'd have trouble with that...
That would be like an alcoholic leaving a half a glass of wine on a restaurant table.
I am just so happy today, eventhough my run failed, I managed to assemble a vaccuum by mself, and find my vehicle tag for july Whew!
good analogy :)
sorry it was not good timing, but I had to share with someone...
Stephen King tells a great story about how (in his drinking days) he could never understand how people could do that with wine. : )
ohnice job red!
No Red, good timing. Overcoming those small challenges can be very rewarding.
My new vac really sucks for real!
What kind did you get?
I need a new one. Mines old.
A Bissell Powerforce, I was surprised at how inexpensive they are.
As long as it gets the job done. I remember the first time I put a vacuum together. It made my day.
I need a new vacuum cleaner as well. One that plugs itself in, and tootles around the house on its own. Oh, and an iron which operates on it's own initiative....
the first sa6 please?
Evening all :-)
Soodle needs a Roomba
My friend has a Roomba, and it does all that.
I wish I had an iron that would press appropriately withut me.
Lunch meat Cos
thanks molly
A roomba? Is that the thing that has the power points in each room?
Its a little robot vac, it cruises around the house continually...
Soodle are you thinking of those weird whole house vacuum systems?
Oh my, I just Googled it. Yes! Yes Yes!!!!!

Yay Cos!

Well done Cos!!!

this is good news, my goodness was a difficult time.
it was. the local news were on for 130 straight hours. last night they ended the live coverage so its under control now
Cos, hit me up when you have seen the final episodes of Smash. I have some comments.
ok will do!
plan on finishing this week
The Colorado fires were top news here as well, Cos. I am so glad you are safe and well.
i have seen a rhoomba vac in action and unless you have low pile carpets and every stick of furniture is up tight against the wall, the think just bounces off of furniture like a pinball and becomes a 250 dollar cat toy(they love to ride it)
glad you and yours are safe cosdem
Soodle, question for you. There is a genetic disorder found amoung Jews with a lineage from Eastern/Central Europe. It's rare today due to genetic testing. But, read an article that there is a variant of it among the irish. Have you ever heard of this?
Called Tay-Sach disease. Always fatal by age 5
No, I haven't Bich. What sort of disorder?
Neuro degenerative.
I have never heard of it. And mercifully, child deaths are at an all time low here. Thats not to say that there is some disorder out there.....
I think the testing for it is in the preliminary stages. There are problably as many Irish in the US as in Ireland
'Not to say that there is NOT some disorder...'
And there are so many Irish/Scots, etc.
For sure, Bich, but, as I say, I haven't heard anything about it.
hi all
Hi peri
Hey Peri :-)
a family friend had a child with Tay-Sachs. he died when he was 5 I think. total care, very sad
Don't worry Soodle. I'll see if I can find it on line
94 left here and stuck
It is a tedious grid, Peri.
yes, but you know I will persevere, molls
I have stayed in all day. must get out tomorrow no matter how hot it is
Yes Peri, I know of your addiction.
I could go out now or a little later but I have gotten
lazy
I'm feeling drained for lack of fresh air.
I will probably kick myself when I see how many words I have missed, once I go to the list
I am getting cabin fever
I prefer fresh air over AC
Why are you house-bound, Peri?
it is very hot out today and I had no special plans so I am staying in. I am capable of going out if I want to
I would die if I were housebound
or If I could not read

altho if I were housebound I would get a lot of reading done
I opened the sliding glass door last night and it was like a steam bath out there.
Soodle, that's the link
I am reading a legal thriller by Lisa Scottoline. she writes a weekly article in the Phila Inquirer.
Yes, I saw on the News how temperatures in the US are soaring. And thanks Bich... I googled it. What a nasty, hideous disease. :-(
the book is called: Dirty Blonde
it is a very nasty disease, Soodle
i am reading fifty shades of grey, disappointing
Ivey's reading Mommy porn! Ivesy's reading Mommy porn! : D
really ivesy? I have not read it yet
Mommy porn?
Oh golly, Ivesy!! Do tell............
lololol.. yes i am molly.. dont know what all the hype is about.. just another dirty book lol
It is a nasty disease, but prenatal testing has eliminated a lot of it
dominator, bondage, punishment and tons and tons of sex..... every which way lol.. tmi i know
Peri..... 50 shades of grey is the new Lady Chatterly's Lover!
course i will have to read the 2nd one now.....

Soodle, that was a terrible slam at D.H. Lawrence. At least he could write.
when i got married waaaaayy back when, the ceiling at the back of the church fell..when i said i do.... true story.. think that was a sign that and the blizzard
If you get a chance, have a read of a short story by an Irish writer called Frank O Connor, called First Confession. Or better still, listen to it on You Tube, narrated with a Cork accent. Absolutely hilarious.
lol ivesy
you are rite molly.. shades of grey is poorly written.repetitive..
When I read that Shades Of Grey was originally a fan fiction on a Twilight internet board, I knew it would be drivel.
100% correct, Moly. Its just the hoo-hah I am comparing!
another great series.. twilight lol... and pc.casts vampire series... big rush on those
in our childrens room we now have graphic novels for the kids.. very big with them...
does this grid ever end.. jeez
cheer up ruru.. 2morrow prob be 40 words
http://tinyurl.com/7y2yfw4 -Worth a listen!
There is nothing politically correct about the Twilight series. It's also poorly written and pays no attention to vampire lore.
I thought it was a toothsome novel
And the female protagonist is a dullard that no young girl should ever want to be like.
My teen daughters read all the twilight books. And I didn't discourage them, because I am so happy to see them reading rather than tweeting or texting.
Hi all, I have recently read some fairly good mysteries by David Liss...sort f historical/financial mysteries....but of course they aren't all exciting or sexy soo.
Hello Red :-)
we have a program during the summer in the childrens rooms the kids sign a contract to read 15 books during a 5 weeks. if they do, they pick a book and get their name in it on plaque.
why read it when you can live it?
nice ivesy!
its very nice to see even the very young ones coming in to get their library cards. they r so excited
i really like books set in ww 2 time.
sorry , i do go on about books.
I've never gotten the thrill of sex books Ru. I agree, why not live it.
Don't be sorry Ivesy. I think that is a great program your library has.
good evening all - back for the last 125
agree molly, ru... just had to see what the hype ws about.
Hiya Glan :-)
Hi Soodle - how are you?
ivesy i think this is a safe place to go on about books. My mom was the childrens librarian when I was growing up...
2nd en6 pls
omg red.. that is great. did u spend alot of time at the library
I'm very well Glan! And you?
Perfick!
Probably more than I should have, had no baby sitter, so I went many many days of summer...
I think my Mom had a great impact though, because all my peers want to be her friend on facebook!
my mom taught me how to make manhattans
is your dad don draper, ruru?
lol ruru...
no
My son is dyslexic. Reading is a chore for him. I feel so bad that he has been denied the pleasure of a good book.
dade
could you not get him into talking books soodle?
I met a young man at the supermarket recently who did all his 'reading'via talking books on his iPod...
Well, he is 21 now. Talking books and iPods didn't exist back when he was in the day!
I can't even get into readin g them on a screen, never mind talking books - I have to stroke the pages LOL
Me too. (Jesus! We are giving RuRu loads of fodder here.....)
I do too Glant. I have a reading problem
I am behaving myself
shame on you - I could do with a laugh!
come on, ruru, I could use a laugh too

Audio books don't bother me if I'm listening in the car. Other than that, I like real books, as opposed to screen books.
bbs
When I've tried audio books in the car, I fond I miss great chunks of them at thise times when you really need ot concentrate. I guess they're great if you're going on a long drive on those long straight roads in Arizona or suchlike though..
I listen to them on my nano IPod when I'm walking the fluffs
I listen to them driving around town. It's much better than the radio.
se 9/66 plz
I admit, I listen to NPR on the road, they have somehow perfected finding things I want to listen to that are not too engaging at the same time!!!
i still have a cassette player i listen to when i walk :(
I do not like words that start with vowels, as they are harder for me...
se + h*** are female chickens + consumed food + adverb ending

welcome
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. He will be finished in record time.
ty molly
Molly, now you will see how long it takes me because I decided not to lurk for the first half of the grid.
Hi Wht :-)
Ergo, the man behind the curtain. : D

Hey Lynn :-)
hi lynxxx. Welcome to the never ending grid
Hi Crossy
howdy glant
Hu Bichon
Boys oh boys... you sure described it well, Bich.
it does not seem to stop you cold, this grid, but it is more like wading through molasas or quicksand.seems to go on and on and on
I have now conquered the first half of the alphabet... onto N
when you get to z,you get a cookie,a glass of milk and a nap:) or a gin and tonic as the case may be
something to look forward to then ;-)
Meh!! I've struggled long enough. I'm off to bed. Night all, and to those who are battling the heat - stay strong. Nite all :-)
my new kitten is in the grid today, who remembers his name?
you have a new kitten?
Nos da Soodle
got him a month ago
missed that
he is now four months old and of the bombay breed
oh, the bombay s are beautiful - they are the ones which look like small tigers?
they look like small jaguars
they were hideously expensive here about 10 years ago
both our bombays, this one and our 3 year old make are rescue shelter kitties
male
amazing that people pay loads of money and then abandon
and makes are probably veen more valuable as you can charge for breeding
na6/18????
they love water, are long in the body, demand copious amounts of attention and latch onto a single person that they have decided to own lol
all cats demand attention
one way or another
there is such a flood of abandoned cats here that all shelter cats come fixed, and micro chipped glant,we will not be breeding them
Don't have it glan.
but they are a delight:)

The last en 6
You can do it, Kap!
en + the start of a huge grain storage but change the last vowel
Maybe, but why should I?
Thanks, Glan.
Because once you start, you should finish otherwise it kills your ranking? Because it will make you feel accomplished? Because I'm neurotic and hate leaving something incomplete?
I never think of it as sausage.
That's because you're thinking Hebrew National.
gld i am t= ot the only one who hAS to finish
it is nearly midnight and i should have gone to bed ages ago LOL
I'm free of that compulsion
wish i was :-)
I think it's funny that this game has rankings. But it's not competitive or anything. : )
Well, I still keep checking my e-mail. and have other compulsions.
Rankings? Why?
Not competitive, but once you see your name on the top of the list, you do feel pretty good about yourself. =)
I wouldn't know.
for the first year i was that way.killing myself to finish, but no longer
never seen my name at the top of the listLOL
It's a hard thing to brag about to the unitiated.
now i have other addictions that the voices say i must finish
Me too.
After four years crossy, you learn to let some of them go. =)

the first 3 days of course was spent killing myslef finishing the grids
i went pro pretty quickly, i do remember thta

if I only did one grid ever, and got fireworks, would I have a top ranking?
yes kaplan but it would of had to have been that 744 grid we had a month or so ago
Also known as NaCl.
Kap, that is like drinking one Scotch and asking if you are an alcoholic.
Ha Ha Molly, that's good!
I missed a 744 word grid???

Solving the whole grid was worth 13,761 points for 744 words.
I almost wish that I could go back with a lickety list and do it...
It's too bad no one copied Lickety from that day
Oh but I think there is a list in Babanon.
Lickety would be better because at least I'd know if something really wasn't a word. Oh well! Here's to hoping there's another grid like that while I'm still around.
Yeah, the stats are in Babanon, but they are hard to read.

I had someone ask me today if there was a way to cheat playing Words With Friends. People are so unaware of what is available on the internet.
that is why i stopped playing competitive word games. i don't think it is fun if you can just plug in to a site and empty your rack
do
my friend said his aunt is kinda... dumb yet she keeps getting super high scores in word with friends
wjy do you think that is?
he thinks she is cheating for sure
anagram program or something
There are several web sites you can go to that you load in your Scrabble letters and it gives you the best words.
the worst is..i play with some awfully wordy folks and i can never e sure.
And same thing with my friend, asellus. She is playing with someone who spells cookie/cokkie, and yet this person is playing genius Words With Friends words.
yeah... whats the point of playing if you are going to cheat
evening all
Dan, power back yet?
doubt it. we relocated to my Mom's place, which has power

2Bit, those were some heavy duty storms last night.
we will go back tomorrow to check on the cats. yes there are some very large trees down
yikes . . . poor kitties
i didn't know about the storm prior to it happening, so i thought we were having a tornado last night
our utility company estimated 400k of 800k customers without power
heard talk of straight line winds, so it WAS like a tornado!
kitties will be fine, oir
ok :-)
our basement is still pretty cool, and they have lots of ice water & food

You are lucky you have somewhere to go, 2Bit. I have been over 30 hours without power in heat like this, and it's not pretty.
and news said gas is scarce since you can't pump it without power . . .
hang in there ML. extended nearby family is a blessing, mostly
No, I'm not without power now. This was two years ago.

I have kids in Frederick who usually have power when I don't. I just hate to go bunk in with them for an unknown length of time.
what are they saying for tonight? any more?
Not tonight, but possibly more big storms tomorrow.
And this heat wave is now to go through all the way to next Saturday.
our weather folks say heat kills more people than any other weather phenomenon

wasn't it in Chicago 10 or so yrs ago when dozens of people died from the heat?

Says bruce totally out of nowhere: "That is NOT what research says!" Then he returned to reading his webpage.
These are the times you pat them on the head, say "yes dear" and continue on with what you are doing.

Actually, I laughed because it is exactly the sort of thing I'd do.

hi all!
Are you one of the knights, razor?
salinate is a word ,but not here??
hi scrambler
hi jes
sorry the bat didn't make it. bats are having tough times in Vermont as well due to a fungus or bacteria near the nose I think. They are great pollinators :[
fungus, yes. hasn't been found here yet, but fish and wildlife is monitoring for it.
same thing with bees, I think pesticides have played a part in this
Aw, poor Bitey. Nice of you to give her a good home for her final days, Jes.
heheheh. i do so like me some garfunkel and oates. :)
yeah, not really sure what was wrong with her, molly, but i kinda suspect rabies
Ew, rabies.
does that make you a Rabid supporter?
hmmm.... no. i don't have the energy for that, ru.
maybe batty about your patients?
definitely that
jes, i just got to ride one of my horses for the first time since 4/6, colic surgery, large intestine sand impaction, they flushed 32 gallons of whatever out of him
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!
wow. it took me 4 times reading that to realize that 4/6 was a date, not a stat! :D
glad he made it through the surgery, scrambler
hi min
you shouldn't take him to playgrounds scrambler
"4/6 was a date, not a stat"...This is a clear warning sign that you need to back away from Babble.
*boxes up humor and puts back on shelf*
don't get between me and the grid, woman!
Hey Ru, quit it. It's my job to be sensitive here, not yours. : P
ru saw something.... thought ud like it. lemme try to remember what it says...
ah yes... "puns are their own rewords" (i guess its funnier on the comic)
cos! you're not singed too much???
No, I think it works without the comic.
hi stid :)
we're fine! 50% contained now.
we're 50% restrained over here
Hello stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog.
glad to hear that! *relieved mama look* For a while there it was just getting worse and worse*

Oops!
sorry fell asleep ganite all
hey min -- hope your weekend is going well
olean?
tuesday is the day we're all calling "the day hell broke loose" --- but by thurs they got it back under control and away from the city
wonder if Olean is related to Paddy O'Tilt
LOL ruru
Yes, his cousin, Seamus O'Lean. They are drinking buddies.
lol
Seamus had baby recently it was a New O'lean
*wraps humor back up and puts BACK on shelf*
it's a good thing, cos, that they have managed to get it finally, so sad that it has done so much damage
*Appreciates Ru's humor, sitting on the shelf, from afar*
:D
Evening all. May I please have a clue for te6-18 the 1st? Thanks
hey peach
Hi there, stid.
I haven't listed yet so don't know which one that would be
Thanks anyway, stid.
Hello gapeach1066! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle.
Hi there, Min.

Thanks so much, ruru.

yay stid!

maybe a jacket in this case
well.. I'd best get my butt to the store to get fixins for dinner.. not sure what to make
bye all..
We didn't make supper today. I had popcorn...
see you later, ruru
sounds like the peri-diet stid
yay dinner! we had macaroon cookies with chocolate butter creme frosting for dinner, ru. do that, it was good.
does anyone here eat regular food?
that sounds filling, jes....
the french style cookies, not the coconut layered things (though those are also delish)
define regular food? yesterday we had african peanut sweet potato soup. (no, there were no africans in the soup)
oh, that's even better. I am suddenly feeling very hungry.
Not "regular food" like lettuce drizzled with olive oil and celery sticks for lunch.
I had a sort of a veggie thingy yesterday at a restaurant, that was pretty normal. And sushi.
tom made me scrambled eggs for breakfast, too.
We had hamburgers and macaroni salad for dinner tonight. That does not count as "regular food" in this crowd.
He's a keeper. stid.
bruce points out that there's an awful lot of men cooking for wives going on here. i think that's a good thing :)
he says yes, it's a good thing, because he cooks better than i do. :P
I agree -- I was under the weather a bit today, so wasn't really up to cooking. Tomorrow I hope to do a bit, though.
Tom does many lovely things -- breads, pies and such. I am the stir-fry and sauce person.
we sort of split the difference in our home. And Grant now does most of the cookies.
half and half is a good mix :)
Wait, wait. An awful lot of men cooking for wives here? As in "here" as in Babble?
yup
that segment of chat was ru cooking for mrs, tom cooking for stid, him cooking for me...
I do the cooking here, though there's no wife involved ..
i think ill make macaroni salad. thanks molly :)
:-) I like cooking, fresh-made, home-cooked food is so fine.
macaroni salad... I could do that for our lunch tomorrow, cos! great idea!
and molly too -- sorry I missed the earlier comment.
Kudos to Cos and Tor.
they lifted the fire ban so we can grill on the 4th
*shakes head in amazement* I don't think I would want to have any sort of outdoor fire yet around there.
Good news, Cos. Hide in the corner and light a sparkler too. : )
*looks outside*.... no bbq here. the rain will put it out.
we have a bit of blue sky coming in, don't know if that means tomorrow will be clear or not though.
down to 90. going to head out, maybe see you-all tomorrow. *poof*
will prob sneak a sparkler. but will not take out my bottle rockets
bye stid
bye stid
*Still trying to do the math on "awful lot"
Goodbye stidmama! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
I am stopping at 250 words and 2929 points. I am also out!
perhaps he meant "a higher than expected proportion given societal norms"?
Goodnight Min
Goodbye to my fellow babblers! I'll see ya tomorrow maybe
g'night, min
Hi Min and jes.
hi neil
Good Evening Everybody. I'm not going to even start this grid; 1st time her today (and for most of the week) and this is too beig to even start when I'm tired... :-) How are you all today?
hi nef
hi jes. How are you these days?
pretty good, though i'd be better if i could find someone to take a cat
Sorry, Jes. I'm here in MN and am allergic to cats; but have inherited Aunty's cat last year when Aunty died. Ashes is about 12 years old, went through that fire in Aunty's condo, and has adjusted to living here quite well. But if you live anywhere close to Missoula MT I know where you could "drop off" a cat and my stepmother would take care of it! ;-) (She referred to herself as "that crazy cat lady" at one point of her life when she was taking care of 12 stray cats ...
i know. didn't mean i should ship him to you... but he's been here a month or so and still fighting with my cats, and doesn't want to share the litter boxes
uh-oh. That's a problem
yeah :(
gettin' pretty fed up with the peeing thing.
Is he marking his territory too?
he's peed on every dog bed, the kid's chair, my bag, and bruce's shoes.
frustrating.
and icky
Oh, my! What do you do with a cat like that?
try to find him a home with no other cats and a sucker human who will buy insulin and expensive food.
um, I won't give you my step mother's name or address then. She'd spend the $$ on the cat and forget to buy food for herself!
heh. it's not bad if you're only feeding/treating one, because insulin lasts a long time... but still.
My stepmother is rather poor and would spend her food money on a cat instead of herself. And she's lost her sense of smell so wouldn't be able to tell if there was cat pee on something or not (even though everyone else could smell it a block away....
heh. he's probably not a good option for someone who's already got money issues
I don't know how you can handle that situation with that cat when you've got other animals around, jes.
then again, i'm not sure someone with serious money issues should be getting new pets of any sort... they're rather an expensive hobby
it's to the point that i won't/can't handle it much longer. he'll either quit now that we've built a porch/yard thing or he'll get put down if I can't find a new home.
she always takes care of the neighborhood stray cats. She once had my Dad make a dozen boxes on their back porch with flap panels and blankets etc. so that the cats could come and go in the wintertime.
somebody's gotta feed the ferals, i guess... though that gets expensive too
hey nef and jes, cheerful conversation you two have going... *rolls eyes*
sorry, stid, i'm a depressing sort
rough week, jes?
she'd take them to a friend who was a vet if they needed some treatment for something
hi stid.
hey nef, how are you? getting enough sleep? *worried mama look*
bit of one, yeah
sorry to hear that jes
saturday hours are 8-noon. came home at 4:30 tonight. heading back again to check on a hospitalized cat in a few minutes. 2 emergencies last night so didn't get home until 11:30 last night, one of those died today.
stid, we have our grandson full time for now. DIL is in the hospital(psych) for who knows how long. SOrry about the WwF game
(((jes)))
well, poop. I am allergic to cats and can't afford a horse... wish I could help...
I knew you had him for a while, didn't know it was going to be so long-term, Nef. I haven't had the energy for the Words game this week either.
I figure we'll play when it's convenient and fun, not as an obligation. **hugs**
Oh, good! I was worried that you'd think I fell off the planet or something!
health problems, stid?
busy mostly, but two allergic reactions this week. Today has been a rough one, pretty out of it.
allergies are no fun
I understand. I'm reacting to my allergy shots; need to take Benadryl and then spend the next 1 1/2 days totally zoned out from the Benadryl
any word on how the dil is doing, nef?
I have heard that allergy shots are pretty awful in general. My allergies generally don't have shots available, I have been told.
We're trying to get her in to anintensive treatment center at the moment, jes. She was sexually abused as a child by a relative and by her stefather as a pre-teen; and is bipolar and personality disorder to boot. My son has loved her and stuck by her through a whole bunch of stuff; but she'd reached the point she was suicidal and would have carried it out this past week except there was no one there to care for her son.My son is in his busy season and working nights right now; so that doesn't help either
wow Nef.
stid, the allergy shots are strictly for vespid stings (bees, wasps, and 2 types of hornets for me); and my upper arm swells up from shoulder to elbow; but I'm trying to get through thisanyway.
how old is grandson?
3 year old, jes. Very busy; and pretty much a hand-full right now.
wow, nef -- seems the cure is nearly as bad as the ailment
He calls his Mama on the play phone, but won't talk to her when she calls. He can't go to see her either; and he can't understand why he could see his PaPa (my DH) when he was in the hospital but can't see his Mom there too
that's an exhausting age
Nef -- does he have preschool or a playgroup where you can let your guard down for a while? Kids that age are exhausting
It's summer, so his kinder muzic is on break and his ECFE group is off for the summer. Besides, he's at our house and those are where they live (35 miles across town)
snap, jes
I'm going to take him to storytime at our local library this next week, probably to the community center
Any teens around who can help for a few hours sometimes? Just so you can take a bath in peace or something. When my boys were that age (2 and 4 actually) the neighbor girl came over a couple afternoons a week for me.
ugh. and the MIL just emailed bruce to ask if we'd take her dog. apparently it attacked one of her cats. Bruce pointed out that we have cats. and rabbits. and roosters. why would we want the dog?
That sounds great -- and you know places like Barnes and Noble have storytime?
oh jes, it just gets better and better, right? *shakes head sadly*
maybe a library for reading hour?
or, you know, you could totally already be on that and i could have missed your comment from 2 minutes ago. d'oh.
alternatives include Ikea, which has a play room for little kids (and mock living rooms where you can "try out" the furniture)...
otay. i think that with that display of inability to concentrate on a simple, linear conversation, i'm gonna go check the cat at the clinic and try to sleep tonight. Hugs, ladies!
My dtr will be taking him to the musical "Suocial" (??) tomorrow
Seussical?
(((jes))) Good night
That is a fun little show
jes, be well ((hugs))
Hi everyone! Is this todays, July 1 or yesterdays grid ? I forget what time zone it is in.
Thankyou stid! I couldn't speel that and tried and tried!
it's the June 30 grid MaMaWA
another 25 minutes or so until flip
Good luck starting now, MaMaWA! ;-)
I am stalled at 88, refusing to list today
Haha Nef that is why I asked I will wait for flip~!
Our community center has a 3 story climbing center with slides and ropes and all sorts of fun stuff, stid; plus a pool (actually 3 I think) and a child center too.
oooh. that's nice, Nef! We don't have fancy things like that around here.
and we are within 3 blocks of 4 different parks with playgrounds, plus the lake down the street with fishing and swimming and another playground. The thing we lack is friends near us with small kids.,
(My "adopted Iranian grandkids now live 30 miles in the opposite direction from my son
Well, having one under your wing, you'll make some new friends, I expect.
your network does seem a bit spread out, nef
unfortunately true, stid
We did go see our Iranian friends on Wed. though. The 3 kids get along like cousins; they had a blast!
That's marvelous!
well... I should wander off and read some more. Tomorrow I should be well enough to be active. Today I was just so foggy. I'll "see" you again soon I imagine, be well Nef -- and remember "nap when they nap" *Poof*
Nap? What's that?
good night stid. Be well....
Laundry is calling. Good Night and Happy Babbling to Everyone.
