hi granny -- how goes the leg?
rose! Great to see you! How are you? How is the knee and how is the pain and are you home yet?
roflol @ rose btw
WHAT kind of stuffed, then -- I hesitate to ask
with food of course... *innocent eyes*
I grilled shrimp and peppers and leeks and served it over rice with a lemon/garlic sauce.
still in hospital, waiting for surgeon to finish his list, then he is going to review me, and set up a new pain management program. btw, leg not looking good. very swollen, bruised and a large red patch on my shin which looks suspiciously like cellulitis. trying very hard to stay optimistic.
ouch granny
could be severe bruising too no?
have wept on and off all day, bit like melbourne's weather. have managed to cotinue with exercise program even so
oh.. man.. I am really feeling for you granny
((((((((((((((rose)))))))))))))
Please keep us posted and keep your hopes up, granny
ruru, he said he didn't want to see bruising below the knee, this goes all the way to the sole of my foot
oh crap
btw have gmail account now. rose.mcc2@gmail
let's wait what he has got to say, dear rose. I am sending you love and hugs and prayers and good vibes and a truckload of angels.
saved it
thanks rose.. I'll write
ty for the wine ruru
ah well, you know what they say, doctors and nurses make the worst patients...only i don't think they had this in mind
no, sounds like it didn't go perfectly. But between not perfectly and good are still some possibilities. Keep faith, dear one.
oh the surgery has been a complete success, just a few other issues...lol. what can you do, but go with the flow
please could i have a clue for the sa8

sorry I was just kidneying you
thanks again sprite, nbs and nbt at last
oh lord
geese don't have to be force fed -- livers are smaller, that is all. I can think of thousands of geese on hundreds of golf courses that would do and I think a medal could be won for getting rid of them!
wtg Jjenny
wtg jenny
I wouldn't mind if they were not force-fed.
lol nan
I should be goosed to it by now...
et tu, sprite?
you'd have to take a gander at them sprite

ugh, weather forecast for tomorrow, high temp 15C (59F). I guess all the heat went to the east, poor things.
LOLOLOL, was trying very hard to not go there, ruru.
I saw that one coming :)

{{rbud}}
hi, ruby, how goes it? :)
tired out from watching sports for umpteen hours yesterday lol
that was a great soccer game last night
hi ruby :)
oh, the tour de France, etc.?
hi rbud too
Tour and European Cup.
<-- loves those two sports!
hiya sprite!
:D I couldn't care less, grin. But it is fun to see you enjoying them.
back in a minute, need my meds and wanna check on the jelly...
and look whose pup is in the grid!
mmmm, jelly!
lol no not jelly... syrup! Will boil it again today. Yes, my sweet lil' doggy :D
maybe it will solidify
the currants, which didn't look promising, turned out perfectly
yeah we'll try. Am having a ball with it.
oh... you mean waiting a bit longer?
yay, found the last j!
nice, I have still one missing. So you say to wait a little longer before I reboil the grape jam, ruby?
unfortunately, I've never mae grape anything, so don't know how much natural pectin they have. I think, however, because they are basically watery, they may need to be cooked down further
btw... very first time someone resigned on me in Words with Friends :( He got bad letters and I was winning. I have invited him again... who knows.
yeah I had already added some lemon juice, because they are indeed low on pectine. Ah well, am gonna try. It is fun :D
I hate that! Sometimes I resign in Lex (live games), when it's hopeless, but I always say so and arrange to have a re-match
perhaps grape syrup into wine.....
yeah I didn't like it either. Ah well, we'll see. I know he is depressed, so maybe he couldn't bear it.
why isn't pe5 (as in dish) not accepted?
glad the currants worked out. Did you make the last batch as well?
wouldn't it end in an i or ie?
it seems it is only valid together with dish. Hi Christine, yes, it ends in i. Diagonal to the corner.
yes, it does, and goes bottom right to top left, directly :(
and hello, Christine
same as luke warm. Luke is not valid.
Hello ladies - I can't make that work with ie or i
ni, it isn't accepted, very annoying
no it is not valid, Christine. Alas.
and what is wrong with eejit? I know I am one...
et5/6 very tour de france words, ruby :)
yes, I am always happy to see it but isn't that et5 with a g?
I don't think so?

et5 practice piece for music

Good day to all.
hello everybody
100 this AM
Hi Ruby. 100 is how many you found or the temp there?
... g''morning scrabbler ... bonjour ruby ...
Hi Dos
rare
rared
Free Clue Monday. Get 'em while they're here.
haha, it's never been that hot here in my 15 years. Saturday was close, though, and today it's about 60
bonjour dose
nasty
... you could tell me my sixth y or my seventh j rather than let my monkeys work their poor little fingers to the bone ... but no ... you just tell me words I've already got ... ... darn
how about an 8?
I didn't even notice that J. Let me work on that.
did anybody watch the soccer last night? Spain was fabulous!
sa8...kind of wine
I have been watching US Olympic Trials--mostly swimming.
hello molly
Hm, not sangria.
I never would have seen that TY
... I saw a few minutes ... it looked like the Italians were playing for a 0-0 draw then go for the shootout ... ... but the Spanish scored first ...
sa8 ends in a sea bird
after Spain's second goal, the Italians collapsed into a well of tears
... looks good on 'em
Our little Ruby is an avid sports fan : )
yes and Mr. Ruby isn't
... and did you do any sightseeing around Belgium on your bicycle yesterday afternoon?
on Saturday, I'd never been to Liege
my Italian restaurant friend said that next year they will do a time trial around "our" lake, but I don't know how he knows that
... one year I'll get to Europe to watch a bit of the Tour ... ...
... it's on the Tour website
it is actually better on television
... the route for the 2013 race is already posted
when you stand there, it goes by too fast
I've had friends go up to the top of one of the high mountains and camp there.
... I sure ... but somebody must wave the maple leaf for Ryder as he goes by ...
he is the one I want to win, but I imagine that Cadel will do it again.
Good idea, Dos.
the commentators are trying to stir up some drama by saying that Bradley Wiggins might do it
... I watched some of the Giro and saw only one Canadian flag and that was at the finish of the last day
since Andy Schleck, the whiner, got injured
there were evidently no Italians on the podium for the Giro, a first , I think
... for the commentators I'm sure it's "anyone but Ryder" ... I'll guess because the can't say "Hesjedal" ...
Andy is not in the Tour this year?
I think he broke his pelvis in one of the preparatory races
... it wasn't a first but I think it was the first in twenty years ...
I can say it, just can't spell it
... yeah ... Andy hurt his back ... but Frank is there
I haven't watched the Tour yet. Gardening has been my obsession.
I prefer Andy's brother, but Andy is the better rider
aaah, his back!
didn't remember
... I was going to do a bunch of gardening ... but it's just too hot ...
it's too wet here and the race coverage starts in an hour or so
Well, I admire all of those bikers. Those races require incredible endurance.
And mental toughness.
I have to leave for work very soon. Maybe I will return here later. Enjoy the day.
it is unimaginable how they can ride in the "peleton" and not be spooked by the proximity of the mob
... yeah ... ... let's ride at 30 mph for 5 hours and then sprint up a really steep hill for a mile or so ... ...
bye scrabs
And go 60 miles an hour down a hill. I hit 29 mph last week going down a hill and almost freaked out so hit the brakes.
today should be flat and boring, except for Cavendish
the downhills are terrifying, even on TV
...there were several moments towards the end yesterday where I couldn't figure out how they were going to get all those guys through the space they had
and they had one crash because of some dumb spectator who stood in the road with his camera. He should have been arrested
dose, were you watching the year that Vinokurov had the horrible crash?
I never liked him while he was Lance's competition, but after his drug suspension and his return, and then his broken femur, I've become a fan
... I can remember from about five years ago the rider lost his concentration at the top of a climb through the alps and rode off the road ... his bike went 2000 feet down the side of the mountain ... he was lucky ... he grabbed something as he started to slide and only had to climb up about 50 feet
I remember that
ONLY 50 feet? Yee gods
were you watching the year when Lance made the "pont" when there was a crash in front of him?
<---Thinks Ruby has a thing for Lance
... and I remember Lance being riden off the road at a hair pin turn coming down some mountain ... and riding cross country ... almost blew the whole race and career that day
... know Ruby has a thing for Lance
most, probably 99%, of Frenchwomen hate the Tour
that was the "pont", evidently allowable in that circumstance -- veryu interesting
... wouldn't doubt it
... "why are you sitting there watching those guys ride bicycles ... it's soooo boring" ...
I got into an argument in Lexulous the other day with my opponent saying terrible things about Lance. At first I thought he/she was kidding....NOT!
that's how my husband feels, tant pis!
Ahahaha! Fisticuffs in Lexulous
I was surprised by the heat of the comments against Lance
... we'll see ... if they've got the evidence ... then it's a tragedy ... ... if not ... he should sue their asses off and double the size of the federal budget deficit
for me, Lance is a hero. His personal life? Pffft!
in all the time he raced, he never tested positive. He did, however, use his own blood for enhanced oxygen absorption, but only until they ruled that illegal
... it's an image thing ... "you kept saying NO you didn't take the stuff and you really did" ... and he was so idolized ... it's a long way to fall
pls forgive us, molly, for going on and on about it
does yoour wife like the Tour, dose?
No worries. This beats some of the other stuff that "goes on and on" in the chat log. *Wink*
... I'm watching on the computer ... so she doesn't mind my little obsession
husband has to retire to his study as I take over the bedroom which has the big TV
... besides we've lasted 24 years with me being a Canadiens fan bleeding red, blue and white ... and her being a Leaf fan bleeding just blue and white ... ... we can survived anything
nice, dose.
<---Habs fan
habs?
... Ole ... ole ole ole
I made my husband and American football fan, he made me a Habs fan. Good trade.
... habs ... contraction of habitant ... the name given to the original colonists in 1608 in Quebec ...
who/what are habs?
aaah, who knew?
... as the Canadiens are the original champions from quebec ... Les Habitant ... Habs
Les Habitants
the only hockey I've ever watched was a 3rd tier team, the Broome Dusters (in Bighamton)
Bing*
"everybody" went to the games because there was nothing else to do
... driven through it ... nice country
... a small town Canadian tradition
actually through Binghamton?
oh, Quebec hahah
... 3000 of the 2000 people in the town will go out to support the Junior A team every game ... ... it can be like football from Texas
... no New York ... down there south of Syracuse
most people haven't even heard of it; I lived there for a long time
bad climate, but lovely place
... In my next life I'll be a truck driver ... I'll drive the car rather than fly just so that I can see what can been seen
and wonderful "road food"
Hi ruby, dose
{{bichon}}
... had to take kids to NYC for something ... turned left at Binghamption on the way there ... and came back across the George Washington and straight through Pennsylvannia to Scranton and then north through Binghampton again ...
... morning bichon
Hot in your neck of the woods ruby? It's an inferno here
Oy, Scranton
we had only two hot days, now it's back to cold and rainy
cold and rainy sounds so nice
... ooooh ... cold .... and rainy ... ... what's that?
I went to graduate school in Scranton, molly, Marywood Colllege (school slogan "Mary would if Mary could!"
we had 10 weeks of it this spring, I prefer hot
It's like I said, Ruby. You have been EVERYWHERE. : )
... it hasn't been as hot as 2006 but plenty of 30-32 degree days ... (85 - 90 F) ...
hahah, molly
it's just 'cause I'm old, molly
she's even older than I am
sadly true!
ante
doh, sorry, slink
... I'm a mere child to you guys ... but it still impresses kids at school when they ask how old I am that I can say I'm the only person in the building who can remember when she was the Princess Elizabeth (actually I can't I was only two when GeorgeVI died)
I'm not that much older. I remember the coronation
<-- saw the corontaion when I was in 4th or 5th grade but we didn't have a TV yet
{sp!!}
Recites Babble proverb: Where there is the wager, there is also the volcano
haha Molly
I missed it molly, ty
I think I saw the coronation on a news reel at the movies
... my mother has a photograph of me waving a Union Jack when Liz and Phil drove past the apartment when they visited St.Josephs Oratory in Montreal in 1951 ... ...
Here is what perplexes me. If Canadians spell the car wheel ty4...why is the store Canadian Ti4?
nice
... we don't ... the British have tyres ... we've got tires
... but we do have "u"s between every O and R
Again, perplexed. Canadians spell so many things "the British" way. Cheque, colour, etc.
And no, not every o and u. Alec Baldwin is not an actour.
... no ... you spell it the American way ... as a protest again British tyranny ... ... I think it was some Chicago newspaper edition who dropped the "u"
hahah
... but is he an "actor" either?
Oh we have lots of ou words. Flour, dour, four, sour.
... but not flavour, colour, neighbour, savour,
interesting, though, how with the same letters, the pronunciation changes so radically
Zed is the one that kills me. I looked at my husband like he was from another planet the first time we played Scrabble and he said "A or Zed?"
enough, tough, dough, bough, rough - wonder why these retained their British spelling?
... it's all about the origination of the word ... French or Saxon or ... ... ... and then sometimes we'll spell it differently .... rite, write, right, wright ,,, ,,, read, rede ... ... and all the other babbulous variations
Afternoon all from a very cool and wet Wales
Hi Glant
philologists unite!
hello glant
and what's wrong with Zed?
... we're English originally Saxon ... the German is "tzet" ... ... New York was settled by Dutchmen ... pronounciation ... "zee"
:-)
Hence the Tappan Zee bridge. *Thinks about Tappan Zed*
tappan zee bridge
... and then there are those Cymric Welshmen who don't believe in vowels and allow triple consonents
Snap Ruby
snap, molly, tappan zed has a nice ring to it
the only word in the Welsh language which begins with Z is 'zinc', which we adopted. There is no Zed or Zee in Wales LOL
Who have cwms but not rwms.
Welsh is like a secret code; I love the way it looks
we have more vowels than the rst of you - a, e, i, o, u, w,y
... that's the best way to solve the problem
but have never heard it spoken
Oh Ruby, that's perfect. It does look like secret code.
It sounds lovely...
poetic, lyrical, lilting
and great poets come from there....
... and actors
Gaelic is another language that makes no sense to Anglos.
and singers and artists, we are a creative nation
and looks impossible -- even seeing the same paragraph, side-by-side, the words aren't relatable
gaelic, that is
And there is no way to phonetically pronounce it.
but, unlike English, all Welsh words are pronounced consistently - if you know how to say a letter,it is always said thta way (apart form Y)
oh, I meant Welsh
I noticed in the soccer match that Kiev is Kyiv in cyrillic
Gaelic is phonetically promounced in Gaelic LOL - just not possible using English ponetics
(and Geneva is Gien in German! huh?)
time to get the bike out
It
bye chatters and choggers and sports fans
It's no wonder we have trouble communicating
bye ruby
Bye Ruby, bye Lance

we are just armpit deep in deer here atm.so many collisions.there is a particular bit of road than i now drive 20 below the speed limit on and it has saved us twice just just week alone
just this week*
had one citiot yesterday honk at me and blow my doors off passing me at 30 over the speed limit on a solid line yesterday, sure enough 2 miles up the road, there he is with the entire left side of his suv caved in and a dead deer.after he said sorry to me for passing me like an idiot,i let him use my cell to call a tow truck
i wait with him a bit, help get the deer off the road and he says to me" you guys must really do something about all the deer up here!" i said"we will try to have all the tree chopped down and the entire thing paved over for your next visit ok?"
i understand cross.. was raised in maine
:)
Well, you were very nice to that idiot.
... are you too far south for the black bears? ... they'd eat a few deer ... and maybe munch on the citiots too ...
in ohio now in a burb of cleveland and even here the deer populatin is amazing.. i have deer in my yard every night.. have lived in this house for 40 years and never saw them until 10 years ago even though they were here.. the sity has torn down acres of woods to put up housing that has 20 per cent occuopancy ,, isn t that great?
we do our best:)
in South Jersey we have the same deer and the same citiots :(
we get them, but not many,2 hours further north though and you have bears
also we have an owl and an eagle and a hawk... in the area- they are new here in the last 5 years .. have also seen a fox and possibly a wolf we have destroyed their habitat so what the4 hell do we expect
think thats wild sammys mom? we have a town close to us.very busy in the summer cause of the beach.but in off season has a pop of 12,000 people, they just started 2 subdivisions that will hold 1000 people each!!!..and the town has no high school. the current kids are bussed to our town for high school
we are indeed the intruders sammysmom
and whose taxes foot the bill???
i think they are planning on the people that vacation here, buy into one of these subdivisions and retire here
yes,the local always pay.they stay 3 weeks a year and destroy the place and we get to clean up
and there goes the vacation spot-lol
yup
ain't progress grand?
pave over paradice and put up a parking lot
yup
sometimes the city money is not worth it
A black bear was seen less than a mile from my home recently. The deer are ubiquitous dusk to dawn and occastionally during the day.
ours really move around from 6 pm to dusk
often you see them down by the bay having a drinlk
Imagine if the opposite were tr4 and the deer were taking over our land ---chaos.
so far we have no bears --- just the occasional fox and coyotes have been seen in the pinelands
perhaps the deer may do a better job than we are...
My daughter almost hit a deer last week on I95...he just came out right in front of her..
<<<<has deer, bears, racoons, possums, rabbits, chipmonks, squirrels, foxes and a million birds.
it is scary.i came so close to one other night, when i swerved hard to the right to avoid,i could look to the left and see his white tailed butt no more than 2 feet from my window and hear his hooves hit the pavement as he ran

...I don't like him and he wins too many stages
I want to root for Ryder, but he must be safely in the pack because I never see him
virtual bike, aloy, I'm watching the Tour de France on TV
oh, lol.. (-:
that's true, dose, I would rather see Tyler Farrar win some, but haven't seen him, either
... the first comment they made about Ryder today ... towards the end of the stage was .... "oh and there's Ryder Hesjedal ... we haven't said very much about him" ... and then they talked about someone else
are you getting the French commerntators or English-language ones?
... Ryder is just being Ryder ... hanging around the front of the peloton and then getting in without a time loss at the end ... ... tomorrow is a good stage for him
I hope so, I need to be able to recognize him
all they did today was commiserate with poor Anthony Roux who broke a finger in his hand yesterday.
... the English and Irish guy ... on Eurosport ... though I'd prefer Phil Leggat and Rolle on ITV ... but I haven't been able to get them
... Roux was in a bunch of pain ... wrist in a light cast
I haven't tried Eurosport. I am so used to the French guys, and particularly like JaJa and Jean-Paul Olivier, that it would be hard to change
he was valiant and got "most combative" of the day which I hope means some money!
... they'll never mention Ryder ... he's not French ... and he doesn't win stages ... and he won the Giro ... "where is Italy anyways" from the French perspective
they love that kid Sagan who took yesterday's stage
... he's the next generation's Cavendish ... he wins stages ... but he can't climb a mountain ... at least not yet

they're very funny about Johann Gene, never saying OMG, there's a black guy in the race. They just talk about his racing in Africa. Do you think that's "code"
... there have been algeriens before ... but it sounds like code to me
in the "official" book, they listed 2 Iranians, 2 Japanese and 2 Chinese, but I think that only one of the Japanese made the cut
I don't remember any Algerians
lately?
... but there are stange goings on with that book ... the web site had another Canadian in the race last year ... but the results don't mention him ... they've probably called him American
hahah
... not lately ... but if you listen to Phil Leggat he'll mention it sooner or later
fewer Italians every year

... early to mid 50's ... five from Algeria and two from Morocco ... but I don't see any stage winners ... (I had thought there was one)
I've only been watching the Tour since we moved to France in '98
... I read a "boy's own" adventure story about a kid struggling up from the slums of Marseille to triumph against all odds in the Tour when I was in Junior High ... ... been noticing it from time to time since then ... ... and then when I was on chemo I started watching it because I didn't have anything else to do

Hello. The severe storms of Friday have left HUGE swaths of our region without power, including many square miles where i live. I was out of town, am safe. My housemates, the house, and the cat are fine.
i'm staying with some friends who have power int he meantime.
SO many intersections are dark. There are generators attached to some traffic lights at large intersections to keep them going. This is worse than the last hurricane by far.
today's my nephew's birthday, seain, and he lives in Georgetown. I wonder how he's doing
hi all! dc, glad to see you are ok; power sounds like it will be out for quite a while.
Much of DC was restored. I'm looking for update from their power company, Jane, one sec.
thanks, and indeed, sue.
is the sa8 related to the 6?
in Virginia, for each red or orange blotch they restore, 3-5 new orange or red blotches appear.
nm it's not
I remember reading a story about a massive power outage in LA after the earthquake. Some people were scared by this gaseous thing in the night sky. Turns out they were seeing the Milky Way for the first time.
LOL about the Milky Way
Jane, Latest update from PEPCO, the power company in DC and nearby MD. It will be slow to load. http://tinyurl.com/7y2ogsg
Howdy.... Need help with re7,40 please,
Just learned that power is back at home.
yay dc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Astronomy Picture of the Day site is back up too. I was able to find mirror sites, so I still changed my icon, but I felt surprisingly bereft.

Very quite here.
Hi BR.
quiet
I knew what you meant.
Hello, HT
Be well all.
There is just some wonky words in this hot mess today. Oy!
Wonky is a good word, Judi. : )
Hi, kids. Hey, DCseain... My hubby works for Pepco and was doing outage management all weekend. We have Mother Nature and DC to thank for our lack of social inactivity this weekend. He had to do computer updates every four hours.
I always feel bad for the crews and technical people when we have outages this bad. I know they are on triple time.
Well, it's important work, so I don't really begrudge the situation. I feel terrible for everyone who has no power - especially no air conditioning in this ridiculous summer heat.
I have friends in Kensington who have trees down all around them and haven't had power since Friday night.
I'll have to call my nephew in Richmond tonight. See how they're fairing. I'm not sure if they have power or not.
And how about the poor people in Colorado? Those who have evacuated are now having their houses looted. Makes me want to go out and buy a gun.
Me too. That is awful.
There are some real low-lifes out there.
Time to scoot home. See y'all tomorrow! *POOF*

good evening babblefolksen
hi bichon
Did someone mention Richmond as a place where there are power outages?
bichon,my mam and dad have just got another rescue dog as they just lost their last one last month and he is a cross between a bichon and a poodle
your parents are really lucky.
they say he is more poodle like and he is black
Lots of bichons do have some poodle mixed in. Unscrupulous breeders.
If he is black then he is very poodle in appearance, but perhaps not in temperament. Bichons tend to be more mellow than poodles
when i was younger, all my close family members including us always had poodles
toy poodles
Poodles are very cute and smart. But I love the Bichon personality.
are bichons normally just white/cream?
Poodles are much higher on the intelligence gene chain
it's just that all the bichons i've ever seen are always that colour
bichons only come in white with sometimes some ligt tan mixed in. On of mine has a very light brown streak down his back.
hey there.. can anyone help w/ au 6/24?
Bichons tend to have a sturdier frame than Poodles.
so, the black in "rocky" must be poodle
sorry lbuxx
ok it says i am not pro
sorry lbuxx but i don't have that one yet
hi howie, are you pro under a different email address?
this is cosdem
definitely lilliann. It's funny that the color came out so strongly
yes.same address. i had to restore my hard drive and all my passwords are gone lol
hi cos
thanx anyways.. thats a hard one!
Lilliann, if he's a rescue, how do they know he's part Bichon?
hm lemm e try something else
ow, bummer, cos! (I mean, I knew it was you...)
because he only had one owner since he was a puppy and it's on his papers...she had to give him up because she is in and out of hospital and has no-one to look after him
anyway, hi again all, I am avoiding going home because it is too hot outside
ok nope didn't work. i tried my other email account and babble said it had no such email so it has to be this one
Oh, understand now. Don't know how it is in the UK, but there are no papers here for mixed breeds.
my mam and dad say he has some bichon qualities and others are poodle
this is in france
ill email dr god i guess right?
i would cos
that is weird, cos, I've logged on using this same account from many different computers. Probably you should email dr god, right!
I always know the difference between Bichons and Poodles by the shape of their snout. Bichons have a rounded, not long and extended
the vets and the rescue centres have said the same bichon
thanks bye
Probably his build and face shape would tell if he was part Bichon. sounds like a little cutie.
he has a long one, plus my mam and dad have had poodles most of their lives so they are like you with bichons, they know the difference
hmm.. last one is au 6/24.. anyone need clues while i continue bangin my head against the wall over here?
they say his legs are more bichon
I think one of mine might be part poodle. But I don't care.
Bichons do have short legs
i haven't long been on lbu and still need 172 :(
lbuxx, would like to help you, but you know I'm obsessed with Bichons
ah.. got it!
wow, look who's herte. I don't usually play this late, but husband is being nasty, so I'm hiding out
6/24. Hitchcock is one.
gotcha ruby
they thought his fur was more bichon, but it was in a really bad state as he was never brushed and now he has been and had his hair cut, my mam says he looks more poodle but still has part bichon in him. i haven't seen a photo of him yet as my mam got rid of her computor
((ruby)) lovely to see you:)
hi ruby! Babble is a great escape!
always thought that Bichons ad Poodles had similar coats
yay just goy au 6. It's french for author
left side e, pls
i did, but i suppose the people who cut their hair know a difference?
er6/18
musical piece
I think coat texture would be something the two would share
But, they didn't come from the same stocks.
thanks for the et, saanichcat!
sorry wrong e
yw usue!
ty saani
i always thought they were both short, tight and curliesh, but one good thing is they never shed hair
you could never guess with a chow! they couldn't be part anything else!
no, that was the right e, the other word is an er6/18 perhaps describing wandering knights
uw bichon
I wouldn't say never, but much, much less than other breeds
ty sue
and Rufie is going to be the biggest one of all, he's as tall as my Ruby and he's not yet 7 months.
It's the giant Chow, right ruby
they are notoriously hard to breed; the females are not easygoing
omg, really ruby? bless him!
I may re-name him Moose
Are either of yours female ruby?
cute, ruby!
does ruby look after him?
they have to be muzzled or they'd kill th males -- maybe they're part spider lol
so will ruby hurt him?
Does anyone know why ruby?
she both looks after him and yells at him, even shows her teeth. But he is trying to be alpha dog
part spider - I love it!
the females are less mellow than the males
he has even tried mounting her, much to her annoyance
My two have been caught on camera mounting my daughter's elderly Bichon, Cupcake [all boys or ex boys]. Cupcake looks dazed
I took a big series of photos of them play-fighing, but you have to relaly like dogs not to have your eyes glaze over
ah, my labradoodle is a very alpha female, ruby, we really can't let her near other dogs (she is very gentle with people and children, though, and pays no attention whatsoever to the cats)
well, if he gets any bigger he might well intimidate her, but saying that...probably not...like my male cat who i had first and my female cat who is alot smaller than him, came in when we rescued her and had a right go at him, so now he walks away from her and hides! lol
the only thing about him that |I don't like is when he clicks his teeth
his incisors are more than an inch ong
Be afraid ruby
long*
he clicks his teeth and then licks my face
by the sounds of it, ruby will always be the matriach and not let him get away with much
but he's my only chow (out of the 6 I've had) who actually climbs on my lap
which is good in one way, plus she will teach him things
now if I could just solve the "hot spot problem" and my depressed husband, life would be paradise
hot spot problem?
you must have a numb lap then :)
he's had two in 5 weeks, but under where his tale nestles
ditto sue
tht's particularly bad spot ruby
yes, and very hot indeed
mine chew on their nails after a walk. Go figure
the vet comes to the house and shaves him, he takes antibiotics and I'm no longer feeding him rich food, but he's just re-opened one
I chew on my nails, maybe I need Nervicanis\! hahah
he is developing a huge plume of a tail and a real lion's head
helooks like he could be Ruby's son -- his color is changing to match hers and they have the same ears
maybe if the tail can grow again he won't be able to get to it as too much fur
no, she shaves is back, not the tail, so the place isn't visible
happily, it's cooled off again after being above 90 for a coupple of days
oh ok
I guess I have to go to bed; hopefull DH is sleeping
night, ruby, sleep well!
I'm tempted to put tranqs in his food
or zoloft
I think Xanax might smooth him out a little
all good thoughts, ruby :-)
ok, biting the bullet, good night my friends
ty sue
i've never heard of either ruby
hello all. this seems to be a difficult grid indeed.
Bon soir ruby
Xanax is for anxiety (of which he has a lot) and zoloft is for depression
zoloft is an antidepressant and Xanax is anti-anxiety, like ruby says :-)
night ruby, sweet dreams, tc and don't let him get to you.big hugs.xxxx
is that for animals or humans
hi and bye, red. I've just been whiing as usual
probably have different names in different countries
whine all you want ruby. We're here to listen
funnily. both are the same here as in the US
hi red
I am feeling like whinging as well. :(
might be different in the UK, though...
oh ok. we must have4 different names for them here
and whinge away, red!
nowt wrong with whinging...that's what we are here for :)
we can officially call ths "get it off your chest night!"
I visited my Mom today at her assisted living. I had lunch there with her and the food was so bad. I don't think I could eat dinner
but on a positive note, i am one proud mam:)
My job is so frustrating. I'm in trouble for "working from home"
what good thing happened?
we had fish and chips from the chippy
uh-oh, red
why red?
and yay for proud mam lilli!
Oooh bichon thats sad...
chippy?
Did you all hear that a big drug company was fined 3 Billion dollars for selling Paxil and Wellbutrin for off label diagnoses
Technically I am not allowed to work from home, BUT part of my job is to report sertain diseases immediately to the State health dept.
how far away does she live Bichon? Can you set up a regular schedule of bringing her special food?
So sometimes I look in on the surveillance to be sure I am not missing something that the law would fine us for not reporting.
i went to my daughter's parents evening ruby and she is doing really well.apparently a very hard worker, enthusiastic and none of the teachers have a bad word to say against her...their words..
so you're in trouble for taking your job too seriously, red?
bad me gave autistic Max Prozac (read about it in one of Temple Grandin's books). Off-label, schmoft label, it worked
Lilli, this is wonderful!
she din't complain about it, but I thought it was bad. Salisbury steak covered with salty gravy. I just don't eat lunches like that. I'm more of a yoghurt person
ruby..chippy= fish and chip shop
that is great, lilli!
cute, in NY it means something else
Lili, the kids are always nice in school. They save their venom for their parents
Yes essentially uusue, I just feel annoyed and sort of damned if I do damned if I dont.
that is a bummer, red :-(
it sounds like you're doing it right and your admin is mistaken
I tried, ruby to give Teulu proac, but he just kind of didn't want to go for walkies or anything.
it is red, i am sooo proud, they also say she is a lovely girl and exactly where she should be in the curriculum...if only she was as nice to me :(
Well it could be worse uusue. I think I am annoyed because I did know better.
since Max slept most of the time anyway, it made him affectionate and able to make eye contact for the first time
Well, Lilli, there are ways to work on that, and in a few years she may be different towards you.
still, it would be nice if people focused more on the goal than on the details of exactly how you get there (I understand the reasons for things, of course, but some flexibility is good too)
he was a mess for the first 46 months but then was a member of the family for the rest of his (too short) life
I just want to cry about that. that and go back to having more free time...
6 months*
How old was Max, ruby?
so why are you getting into trouble red, can you not be at home and watch the computors?
I felt the same way about teaching, finally quit after getting tenure because they didn't understand that I was doing huge preparation at home and didn't have a "home toom" so used to leave 15 mins early. They gave me so much sh** that I quit
he was 8 when he disappeared
too young? What is the life span for a Chow?
that's one of the nice things about being a university professor - lots of flexibility!
we've never had one live beyond 10. They are very big
Ruby is 9 1/2 and I am already starting to grieve for her
small dogs live much longer, I think, but it's why we always have two of them now
My Biscuit was 16 and 3/4.
if they made me salaried it might be easier but of course we are in the middle ages.
Rufus hd to be put down at 10 because he suddenly couldn't walk
red, my daughter and i will be at logger heads for a few more yearsd yet...we are too much alike and can argue the toss over anything!! i wasn't like that with my mam until i was 15, but we weren't best of friends as we are now until i was 25...now i tell her anythbing and everything, and if i wasnt to cry, shout or talk, my mam is always the first now :)
must go to bed before my head hits the keyboard {{huge group hug}}
I do think small dogs seem to live forever. and cats too. My Mother has a cat, we call him the Prince of darkness...he is like 17...
i thought he disappeared ruby
{{{{{ruby}}}}}
they found him drowned in the pond, lilli
Huggies to ruby. Teulu sends his patient doggie look.
yes, he did, but was found 2 weeks later in the bottom of our fishpond where he always went for his after-dinner drink.
Sera sends doggie hugs too, ruby!
I mever tp;d my husband as he couldn't have handled it since it's his pond
omg, i'm so sorry, i never knew that.big big hugs sent your way ruby.xx
the handyman and I buried him in the garden with Rufus and Cleo. Burt never knew
I think that is for the best, ruby - you are very sweet to him
Ruby that was kind of you to spare him.
he called me a lazy bum tonight because I didn't fix a hole in the wallpaper that Rufie has made. I don't see the point until he gets past chewing on everything
i'm not surprised you didn't tell him but its also unfair you have the burden of it,but i understand why you did and just shows what a lovely, caring person you are.xx
Seems he could fix it if it bothered him?
there's no point until he grows up, as he will just chew and scratch until he is older
bbl
thank you for saying that, but I just couldn't deal with the potential fallout. I told him that he must have gotten out through a hole in the fence and been adepoted by somebody as he wasn't wearing a collar and had never been off the property
and ditto red
bfn bichon
zzzz for me xxox
uusue - this article is coming out tomorrow. I thought you might be interested. http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/07/ 02/us-usa-higgs-idINBRE8610RK20120702

Yes, there is a lot of discussion about this among physicists, godt - CERN is having a press conference on Wednesday, and there is a big particle physics conference next week where we are all expecting an announcement. All four experiments (two Fermilab, two CERN) seem to be seeing things around a mass of 125 GeV
I was wondering- someone mentioned CERN on FB and I admit, i did not know what it was...
how is teulu red...calmed down alot more now?
CERN is the European high energy physics lab in Geneva, Switzerland - I worked there for a while
He is well Lilli, summer time is not his forte, so he is a bit lethargic. He's so hairy...
very cool...
bless him..our's was the same and it's not as hot here.how old is he now?
The God particle thing is like Dan Brown's novel coming to life. I hope no one decided to blow up The Vatican with it. : )
that must have been a very interesting job sue?
ha, it's actually pretty useless, Molly, no need to worry
and yes, lilli, it was fascinating! I finally got fed up with the size of the groups (2000 physicists trying to work together on one experiment is quite a scene) but I still love the physics
indeed, I have a graduate student now who is analyzing Fermilab data, partly as part of the Higgs search
but i will admit i haven't got a clue what you're talking about and gone way over my head...physics was never my strong point, i drove my physics teacher potty asking questions all the time that she just ignored me!
np, lilli, it's pretty esoteric stuff
2000? i would say a few too many :)
(however if you were my student I would not ignore you!!)
well, it is a huge and complicated experiment, kind of like launching the space shuttle or the Hubble telescope, so there is plenty for everybody to do!
this was when i was 15, and my teacher only liked the girls (an all girls school,)who understood it...she would sit on their table and ignore the rest of us who would put our hands up and ask for help, so after that i didn't bother
Not to worry Lilliann. The most important things in life, science can't quantify or explain. Like love. : )
so did all 2000 get to take part in it sue?
that is awful, lilli! I always tried to answer all my students' questions (although sometimes I might ask someone to see me after class so I could go over things more thoroughly with them)
oh, yes, lilli, there are probably a lot more now, in fact. They just started taking data last year, and will continue for many years to come.
very true molly. i never actually like physics to start with, my mam said take it, but i'm crap at maths(not like my daughter, with a big proud smile on my face) so i was never going to be any good
<--Also crap at math. The new math ruined me.
that is brilliant sue, as in taking data...where would we be without physicists and scientists
I taught a non-math physics course for non-science majors - it was a bit of a challenge but I liked it a lot, as did many of my students (this is for university)
sue, my physics teacher always looked bored and if we asked more than 3 times because we didn't understand she would completely ignore us and even when i went to her after class and asked i was told to get on with it and try!!
my log in was an email address i havent had since i first got pro lol
ugh, I hate it when people do that, lilli!
yay cos is back! :)
I thought I had changed it!
and hi, cos, nice to see you as yourself! :-)
All I remember about physics class was that he had this cray monkey on a bicycle that rode along a string. i am sure it demonstrated something,, but...
now to find a way to get expert lol :) hi everyone
jerried
whoops sorry
expert link is in my profile, cos
that sounds more fun that what my teacher had red :)
thanks sue! brb
ty cos :)
i think so...
je isn't even a word...i take away my ty :(
yay everythings back to normal
lol im sorry lil :)
i know you have officially retired sue but were helping out? there must be apart of you that will mjiss it? will you still help out when you can?
no you're not cos :)
*miss
Yay, Cos is Cos again.
I'm not working on the CERN experiment any more, lilli, but I have taken on a graduate student who is analyzing data from the Fermilab experiment (similar but smaller, only about 800 physicists :-)
I've been completely away from it for about 10 years, and it is kind of fun to get back to it
me too. was driving me nuts
ar6/24 please?
Blood vessel
oh good for you and i hope you enjoy doing it again. i thionk sometimes we need space away from things to then enjoy them again sue
ah thanks!
This grid is like a Twister board.
i'm still looking for the ar6...you're right molly, this is a twisty little beggar!
and i need a clue for the au6 please, does it go moff the 5?
au6 is like a French author
only ar6 I have is plural of ar5
thanks for the au6
except now I have the ar6/24, thanks!
pennywise's town is a word :)
i can speak a little french but don't know the author word
pennywise town cos?
pennywise the clown
probably I am giving too much away if I say it looks an awful lot like author...
well, i might do, but my memory is shot to pieces which is why i play this game!
omg...i knew that word and i thought ni put it in...tysm sue
*wink*
reading back.our teachers were like that.if you did not get it after asking about it a second time and you try to ask again or come and ask for clarification after class what you got was"sorry you will just have to catch up in class,i do not have time to be a one one one tutor for you,in case you did not notice,i have 35 other people in this class"
"exactly" crossy
pfah. I was always happy to spend as much time as individual students needed, even when I had 350 of them (few enough came to my office that I didn't have to cut them short)
and this was before computers or googe,so you would break out the 26 volume funk and wagnells encyclopedia and find exactly one line on the problem
*comes out of lurk*...need clue for the ou7/8?
past its prime, jill
my worst lessons were maths and physics and both teachers were never very helpful but i'm glad to say that after tonight with my daughter's parent's evening they all said if she didn't understant something she would put her hand up and she has tols me that they will answer and help
not in + go out with a friend, Jilly
*Secretly waves at Jilly*
i wish i had have had you as a teacher sue :0
hi jilli
that is good, lilli - I was always most impressed, not with the students who understood everything right away, but with the ones who were persistent enough to keep at it until they did understand
thought I had tried that one...ty uusue!
Hi lilliann and *secretly woots at molly*
Cos, I saw your clue, just to let you know *Wink*
i know what you mean crossy, we use to carry so many books in our bags that i'm surprised we are not hump backed!
;) lol molly
ahh, missed your clue cos...ty!
oh no biggie really yw tho
ty cos and sue
**hugs lilliann** hey all
my daughter couls
hi stid!
do with a teacher like you sue as there are one or two who i did'nt see tonight who aren't like you or the other teachers
((stid)) hi hin. big hugs
I never understand the teachers who think that the kids who don't understand or who just need more time should figure it out on their own. WHY are we "teaching" if the kids can do it on their own???
hi stiddy!
Jilly! :-) hope you are well?
I agree, stid!
On the other hand... there are the kids who are disruptive in class (on purpose) who then expect to have their hands held to catch up on what they missed (mostly the middle schoolers). THOSE kids I will point to the written instructions (I always give directions in two forms) and tell them to go over those before they ask me anything.
one of the many reasons I was much happier teaching university students...
exactly stid, i thought the same when i was at school. i couldn't understand why this teacher wasn't trying to help us...now after being a governor of a school, the teachers help the ones who are doing really well and then the ones who aren't but some but they don't help the ones in the middle who could do alot better because they want to look good for the government standards and when i can think of what we call them here i will type it...word block....
at the university there were always the ones who didn't feel it important to show up for class - i would spend as much time as needed to help those who attended
Well, nbt, nbs, 1/2 done ...must run to get some groceries...bbl to finish...
LOL lilliann -- I know JUST what you mean. And, to be honest, when I was student teaching I struggled to figure out the ones in the middle -- not because I wasn't interested and didn't try, but because they generally didn't catch my attention. NOW that I have been in so many classrooms and grade levels I am much quicker at realizing when the kids who are "average" need a little push to do more/better work.
*poof* and TEACHERS ROCK!!
see you soon jilly
*Secretly waves bye to Jilly*
bye, jilly!
indeed, wv - the ones who came to my office after the final exam wondering what they could do to improve their grade didn't get much sympathy from me
i didn't explain that very well... as an ex governor.i use to help people read and i was told to help the ones who could read trhe best?? and then the ones who couldn't...i can understand the ones who can't but why the ones who can read perfectly...i was then told that the ones who did well in school needed more teaching as they could become famous writers, musicians, scientists...etc and the ones who couldn't read and write very well would do better so it's good for the school and the ones in the middle...basically sod them!!
ji6 please?
ji6 sounds like the late Ms. Houston
cos, I think it's a type of horse-drawn conveyance
j + eli wh***** invented the cotton gin
(or what Molly said, I am not good with contemporary culture :-)
oh, I see -- the ones who are above level often don't have much chance to work with someone as a specialist. When I helped in my mother's classroom one of the kids was reading about three grades higher, so I challenged him to read more complicated books and we talked about them so he continued to be challenged. So, I can see doing that. And the ones who are behind really do need the help. The ones in the middle, who are pretty much "on the same page" (pun intended -- and where is ruru to appreciate it?) get what they need from the larger group. Around here, the teacher will hold mini-conferences with the kids in the middle at least once a week to see where they really are and to offer some additional assistance or challenges.
ty molly
but, that's just around here and I have been in schools where "average" is counted as good enough even if the student is capable of more. That makes me grumpy.
thanks!
Lordy, it's loquacious Monday.
but that's the thing stid, the ones in the middle aren't getting the extra help. i complained as a parent and a governor.the middle ones with extra help could have been alot better.....i know it's hard to be able to teach atleast 30 in a class with all different levels but i don't think it's fair to just help two levels out of 3
au5/12 please
I agree, lilliann -- which is why I qualified with "around here"... btw my alternate "dream job" just opened in a nearby school district. Have hit the apply button... It's a middle school language arts/social studies position, and I know it would be a great learning experience for me.
au and rudolph the red nose r*** deer
great clue, lilliann -- was puzzling how to explain that one!
pe6 please?
well, i hope you get it stid and know you will be such a great teachwer

lol and i failed french lol
old French at that :-)
bye sue, lovely talking to you.tc hin
I'm watching the miniseries "John Adams" (again). It's astounding what the colonists went through to secure our independence.
When you consider the ones seeking independence were in the minority, it is even more astounding.
(((((((BR))))))) I missed seeing you earlier!!!
Hello, stid
LOVE the Heinlein quote, BR -- one of my fav authors, of course.
Grant is making me ginger tea... with fresh ginger. He's a darling boy.
I will sorely miss him when he grows up and leaves home. *wistful pre-empty-nester mama look*
Any fires in your area, stid?
no, BR, I am in about the only part of the U.S. with cooler (and wetter) than normal weather. So we are good.
how about you? are you and your community okay? There have been so many problems with weather in so many places the last couple weeks
You're right BR. They were in the minority. So many were afraid to buck British rule.
fire now 70% contained!
marvelous news, cos -- when I looked earlier today the source I saw said only 55%
last tiem I checked was 55% too
brb i want some nutella
hello, everyone. clue for the 3rd, ur5.12?

Don't go all sensitive on us Lillianne. We like talking to you.
hi jilli, waves back :)
Hi Wht.
Hi wht and molly!
Hi Molly and Jilli, and if I am not chatting it is because I am puzzling too hard over the grid.
saying that it is nearly o1.48 so i want to finish and sleep
me too wht...too many to get done! Plus have some cooking for the 4th to get done tonight!
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everyone doing today?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!
Hi Min
Hi ya minv! (((hugs))) how are you?
*Wonders what Jilly is cooking two days ahead*
Hi Min
hi min, welcome to the grid hin :)
It is uncanny how often ee4,6 has been in the grid lately.
omg, that's right, it's nearly the 4th of july! i hope you all have a good day if i don't see you all before
LOL...direct opposites...rice krispie bars and a HUGE vegie tray.
Plus the family macaroni salad
yesterday, i still thought it was june :)
Dorens, and other healthy eaters will approve of the veggie tray. I will approve of the Rice Krispy bars. : )
Had a wonderful weekend. Youngest home from MA for 4 days, out of town wedding...begining of hubby's family reunion (he's there, I go again tomorrow)
And double approve the macaroni salad.
And I approve of both! LOL...life in balance!
Sounds fun Jilly. The 4th is a very family oriented holiday.
haha molly. enjoy your rice krispie treats.. Just because I am a healthy eater doesn't mean I don't understand sinfully good sweets... just maybe differ with you as to which sweets are worth the carbs/calories. And unless there is a good dip, veggie trays are Boring!
rice krispie bars and veggie tray even though i'm a meat eater sound really nice
I made a yummy ranch dip with greek yogurt...even the most diehard dippers will LOVE it!
Home made ranch dip is great.
i think greek yogurt is as good as sour cream. and if you mix it even parts with mayo, and add the flavors of your liking it is stupendous . Partial to a good blue cheese dip myself right now
(with garlic!)
i don't mean to offend people here, which i seem to lately but you seem to eat or like alot of macaroni in the U.S. as in macaroni cheese. do you eat it hot or cold?
macaroni and cheese is usually baked macaroni with a white sauce and a lot of grated cheddar. Yummy and SO fattening lil
Hubby's family pretty picky...I would LOVE bleu or goranzola...but ranch it must be...OOOO or crab!!
mmmmm crab!
Y'all don't eat macaroni in the UK?
is that a meal eaten alot in the U.S dorens
<---Will eat crab dip with a spoon.
we a'll don't molly :)
yes jilli, usually it is a side dish. but i loved it soo much and would sometimes serve it as a main dish with carrot sticks on the side. something about the sweet crunchy carrot with the soft, sharp salty cheesy macaroni... great juxtaposition. and it is eaten hot.
well, we do eat macaroni cheese , i don't like it i prefer cauliflower cheese which is a dish eaten alot here
Macaroni is just pasta. What kind of pasta do you eat Lilliann?
LOL...I had left-over mac and cheese...with a very tres chic sa6/24 morel mushrooms
macaroni is the tubes isn't it...we get that here and alot of people like it but we might not make it the same as you, but here it is a meal, without anything else
The only good thing about forest fires are the morell mushrooms in the spring/summer...
hey all
wb stid
au clues? i only have the au5
sounds delish jily. and hey stid
i like spaghetti
I like baked macaroni and cheese with cheddar and a little Monterray Jack, with Lima beans on the side, cooked until they are soft and dripping with butter.
macaroni is thicker and chewier
<---Thinks "stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni" has given Americans a bad rap. : )
shirlock, au and rudolph the red nose r*** deer
I like food...
Unfortunately, I have now learned about cholesterol so I don't have it as often as I used to.
"macaroni" means fancy/fashionable, as the tubular pasta was when it was new
sounds good wht. I make my mac and cheese with very sharp vermont cheddar, and a bit of dijon mustard, and worcestshire sauce, yumm. but only when i am with all three kids (which is about twice a year) and they clamor for it. otherwise i don't touch the stuff anymore
Wht, ignorance is bliss.
au 5/12 word is au + anagram of to make angry Shirlockc.
Hello Shirlockc! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
Tom makes pasta for me with roasted red peppers and a crumbly topping.
hello Min! welcome to the grid!
au7/32=poet L*******
crumbly topping is important. and if tom makes it that makes it all the better (being served and not having to cook has a certain allure)
nice clue, thanks jil
i don't eat alot of pasta anymore because it's full of carbs and because i spend half of my time sitting and the rest lying down i can't exercise and can't burn the calories off
I think tom is home now! :-) yep.
Hello stidmama! Thanks! Are U having a good summer so far
I am having a lovely, if cold and wet, summer so far. How about you, Min?
good reason lil. i don't eat it much anymore, and when i do i try to make it whole grain
yw dorens...was trying to avoid the PB
*Blesses the chat log and rids it of the evil pasta carbs*
LOL @Doren's comment
My pasta was whole wheat organic...
I use whole-grain brown rice pasta (since I can't do wheat)
i cook alot with dijon mustard, worcester sauce and balsamic vinegar
i am hankering for some pasta right now. good thing i already had dinner. i think tomorrow is a spaghetti carbonara night!

Not so southeast. DC and Northern Virginia were hammered with bad storms that have left many, many people without power.
up here we call dc and northenr va south. (mason-dixon line?)
even south jersey had bad storms... to me that is the south. I know, that is somewhat ignorant on my part or chauvinistic. my 89 year old aunt in winchester managed to keep her power, thankfully
the weather has been so bad around the world lately.i

WooT WooT WooT wht!
That's kind of what I meant Wht, but apparently it's not up for discussion.

I just saw that
pl of je4,9, ruru
thanks doren
this grid is getting to me
what did you do your nose doren?
One of the reasons for listing is to find all the plurals and past tenses you have missed.
it is that kind of grid. i finally got the list and it is flowing more easily now
i think it is getting to all of us ru!
had a little cancer surgically removed lil. a nice little basal cell carcinoma
sorry doren's i didn't know. i hope they werre able to remove it all :)
Now they are saying that 3 cups of coffee can reduce your chance of getting skin cancer. I am adding that to my list of health foods, which includes dark chocolate and red wine.
I drink a lot more coffee and wine than that..
I don't know if the coffee is medicinal, or if after 3 cups you won't stay still long enough to get the sun.
help with the tu7?
Ru swap you grid for life getting to you
evening all
Jilly, tu + dined + Egyptian diety.
Awwwwwww Jess that kitty is a sweety

It's a great song, Lilliann.

I lost my karma with this grid until I found my su5
Hello Uneaixoise! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Dammit! Now I'm thinking about that ice cream again.
(Don't tell Dorens)
lol molly.. have you tried it?
LOL Ru
No, but now it is SCREAMING at me as I walk through the frozen food aisle.
lol ru. and oh molly, i am absolutely craving that ben and jerry's chocolate fudge brownie. you are bad
waLKER IS A CUTIE UNE :)
oops sorry, didn't mean to shout
my frozen food Aisle.. says" pssst ru.. come here.. take me .. take me.. "
lilliann, her adoptive family is sooo happy to have her -- they've already emailed 6 pix to the transport drivers! :-)
Ah, seductive Karmel Su5
molly what kind of ice cream are you dying to try?
aww, how lovely. how old is she roughly?
13 . . . but in really good health
The Ben & Jerry's Karmel Su5. Ever since Ru mentioned it here it has been on my radar screen.
oooh. bet that is good. what's in it other than carmel (which i adore)
vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate chips
hi une. how's your weather been?
with a caramel center
it's worse than heroin
109 3 days in a row but a little cooler today . . .
my mam and dad have just got another rescue dog after they had to have their last one put down last month and were heartbroken and this one is apparently 10 but they were told 8 and he is a cross bichon/poodle called rocky and has so much energy, he wants to play all the time
hmmm, for me it's stacy's naked pita chips. just the right amount of saltiness and i just canNOT resist them
congrats to your mom and dad on their new boy!
love them, doren!
*Mops up drool from keyboard*
doren report to PA
what have you put there for me, ruru?
O dear there is about to be an epic cat smackdown here
can i just ask"what is a naked pita chip"?
(assuming PA is PB)
pita chips with salt and nothing else, lil
that is Pita Anon
It's what you eat with Knock You Naked Margaritas.
good grief
oh ok, is that a dorito?
ahah! and the thing is there are other brands that i can eat a few and be done. but stacy's are just killers
hmm naked and margaritas.. this is getting interesting
toasted pita bread, lilliann
not at all... doritos are like tortilla chips smothered with artificial flavor... gross
i've never had a margarita, i don't even know how to make one
gasp
ur 6/21 please?
i'm ok without them... too sweet for my taste
enzyme that breaks down ur4/5
add a vowel to the ur5 above
ur + ea4/4
oh, toasted pita bread...do you toast the whole thing or cut it in half and toast
thank you both
una mas
Good night all. Happy Babbling and sweet food dreams.
yw
bye wht
no, you buy them already done. i think there may be some butter or oil or something involved. of course, you could make your own, but they wouldn't be so addictive then. howver, i did use to make them with garlic butter... delicious
g'night, wht
We must do something about Lilliann's cloistered eating and drinking habits. Broaden her horizens from racelette, cauliflower and zuchhini.
courgette!
:)
and when i did them, i split them horizontally so they were rather thin and then slathered them with garlic butter before toasting.
that way it would be a mere pitaence to make them?
oh yes, courgette. i love that name
half way
Call it what you want Lilliann. In the end, it's squash.
go, jes!
last re6/21?
Oy, pitaence.
and you know i love squash, right molly?
oh ok dorens, i will try that
<---loves squash
Mrs ru won't eat zucchini
no, it isn't...corgette is from the cucumber family...that is not a squash
Not TOUCHING that comment Ru.
speaking of veggies, what did I pull out of Whole Food's compost-destined box?? 2 crates of kale and half a dozen large beautiful tomatoes!
wise woman molly
squash is butternut and pumpkin
last week it was 40 lbs of asparagus . . . jeez
zucchini is aubergine
aubergine is eggplant
forget that...what do you call aubergine?
forget that...what do you call aubergine?
summer squash lil... at least here. zucchini, yellow squash (that looks like zucchini but is yellow) and patty pan which looks like litle flying saucers... butternut etc are winter squashes. and aubergine is eggplant
i forget
eggplant...ty dorens
love eggplant!
I'm making eggplant tonight
how weird
Says wiki: "The zucchini or courgette is a summer squash which can reach nearly a meter in length"
i tried to grow aubergine but i don'ty think it's hot enough here
baked? fried? ratatouille?
also love eggplant. how are you doing it ru?
Thank you Jes.
is that your squash or are you just happy to meet me?
a zucchini a meter long is like a giant chunk of cardboard!
to us courgettes belong to the cucumber family :0
I am grilling them with spring garlic and serving on a tomato coulis with fresh basil and parmesan
lilliann, you're probably right -- eggplant needs hot sun
YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
memory gone again...i love the greek dish, with aubergines and mince
a, but cucumbers and zucchini(courgettes) sure do look alike. I once sliced up a cucumber to cook thinking it was zucchini. ooh you mean moussaka? love that too
Man it's high falutin' in Napa.
sounds lovely ru...what wine would you serve with that?
<----coming to ru's house to eat. often, if I only could!
we are going to have a nice brunello
moussaka...thanks again dorens
and zucchini's good in a salad too
now, i'm definitely coming to ru's
brunello?
is that white?
delicious italian red
red
i don't like red wine
Hmm, cougar-ettes or tomato coolios? Decisions, decisions.
gasp!!!
lilliann!!!
stats for the lower u, please?
palate correction required
ut _ ** you ike it
*passes out*
ut5
now i'm older i like a crisp white wine, but 5 years ago i could only drink a sweet white wine, i can't drink that now and before that was rose, but for alot of years i didn't like wine at all
and ut4
oh sorry jes, i see you asked for stats not a clue. i am just not thinking straight after hearing lil doesn't like red wine
I love rose
Lilliann, saying you don't like wine here is like saying you don't like cats. You could be banished. I will fight for your right to stay though.
Later guys.
i find it very heavy
i am becoming very partial to crisp whites lately
you need to try the right reds lillian.. and ease into it
bye herin. tc hin
not a beaujolais, lilliann
bye herin
's okay, dorens, i just skipped re4ing the clue :)
bye herin
i like white wine molly
bye, lady
(actually always preferred them to other whites)
nbt
later herin
go, jes!
I've been enjoying crisp whites this summer.. mostly because it's warm
They will probably let you stay then, Lilliann. : )
glad Anderson Cooper finally came out . . .
lol, thanks for fighting for me molly :) swords at the ready as loads of people are about to attack me if not rugby tackle!!
kinda silly not to
he did?
yep
today
nobody can be that well -dressed and that handsome and not be gay
I hadn't realized that he wasn't out.... heh.
I will dig you out of the scrum, Lillliann.
and very trim and neat :-)
although you'd kind of expect that wouldn't you?
finally got all my passwords remembered and all my websites set up phew
Most people didn't, Jes.
all that time in the closet and you'd have to be dressed well/?
his mom was a bit of a tiger lady
LOL
hey, cos!
hi cos. i am horrible at passwords... congrats
my tastes have changed ru. as i say i was never a wine drinker...always a cider drinker...i want to driver a combine harvester...but then i started with sweet now dry so now my taste buds have changerd i might like a red wine...what do you suggest i try with?
the last one was a political forum and it was irking me i couldn't get in lol
thanks molly, we'll tackle them all together
I eat "regular food" so I don't fit in with the epicureans 'round these parts.
we're not fighting youse guys, just shocked!
well..lillian you might try a lighter red.. like a nice Beaujolais from a good producer and have a light chill on it and enjoy with fresh roasted chicken and potatoes and .. I'd mostly recommend a prettier Beaujolais from the village of St Amour, or Fleurie to start
it would be refreshing and not heavy at all
and molly, most people eat "regular food" that is what makes it regular. i like weird food but i don't knock you for having different taste!
next time my mam and dad come over i will have to get them to bring me some red too. my dad always brings some when they come over but i never try it
how can I eat regular food if I'm irregular?
indeed ru, that is a good way to look at it
i hear fiber helps with that, ru.
tell him to buy a Dubeouf Saint Amour or fleurie
LOL Jess
i will have a look at my local supermarket and see what they have
fleurie has nice labels too, lil
not that kind of irregular
try to buy a 2009 if you can llillian or a 2011.. skip 2010
and i have fireworks, so i bid you all a good night
oh, hang on, my next door neighbours came over on friday night, for guess what molly? a raclette...and he bought a bottle of red but didn't finish it, i will have a sip and see what it is like
*waves bye to doren.. hands her a bag of pita chips*
Are you writing all this down, Lilliann? I expect a full report.
yay!! wtg dorens!!!
Congratulations Dorens on your fireworks! Hooray for you!
goodnight dorens, tc.x
Goodnight Dorens! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log.
sweet dreams and YAY doren
yay dorens!
lilliann, still awake? *offers a bit of herbal tea*
no lil, don't try the half open bottle... follow ru's advice.. he knows his wines... and left over wines aren't the way to try in the beginning. and thanks for all the yays
congrats, dorens!
hey jes -- happy almost-the-fourth *tired mama look* with four (or is it 5?) fireworks stands within a few miles of here we are already getting pretty loud booms
hi all. ru, where/how did you learn about wines?
heh. we filled almost a dozen scripts for valium for the 4th today...
well mab.. i've been in the wine biz for over thirty years and taught wine classes for a long time at Berkeley
ruru! I SAW the SA 8 all by myself tonight! :-) *proud mama look* not that I know what it is, a red wine I think?
I hate the loud fireworks
i thought it was open and i've now opened a full bottle of red wine which is rosso italiano, apparently £2.99 from lidls, and it so tastes cheap....ughhhh
it's a sweet white wine stid.. good find though
ack. that seems like a lot, jes! I am tempted to get something just for myself... but I can make something nice from the plum brandy a friend gave me a couple years ago
lillian.. trust me.. please try what I recommend first
oh! then it's something I might actually like! LOL
my grandmother used to drink it with my great aunts LOL
wine is so interesting.
*Files what Ru said about drinking screw tops under BS*
hey, mab
it is.. it's endless in learning and tasting
I worry a little bit about the parakeets, I figure if they get really weirded out I will put a few extra blankets over their cage and put the cage in the closet. We don't do the holiday ourselves, but the neighbors tend to set of M-80s a lot.
I drink wine from screw caps.. lots of wines with screw caps nowadays
oh, i don't think you want a wine with a screw on top, molls.
okay, listing... 42 to go back in a minute *submerges*
really?
There are terrific wines with screwcaps
still feels weird, ru :-)
Listen to the professor, Queen Mab. He just approved screw tops.
i guess if you know from where it comes it doesn't matter so much.
the only problem is when you bring them to restaurants and have to pay a screwage
snort
screwage?
you made that word up.
corkage/ screwage.. get it?
i get it, i just don't believe it.
sad when you have to explain your jokes . . .
i've written down you suggested ru and i will try and get some and will let you know what i think.ty
The wine stewards probably get all queasy when Ru comes to their restaurants.
if you have screwcaps in the restaurant, do you have to hire a wine screward?
it was a joke? i think i've come in too late in this conversation.
good one, stiddy!!!
lots of nice french whies and sauvignon Blancs and pinots from New Zealand in screw caps. Lots of Australian wine too.. it's more common.. and if you are just going to enjoy the wine soon.. who cares?
thanks Une! *trying mightily to emulate ruru*
no.. they don't molly.. i avoid the snooty ones
thanks lillian.. it's worth a try.. the beaujolais should only set you back a little bit.. they aren't expensive
so 6 after the hand-washing bar please?
i actually drink sauvingnon blancs from australia, sout africa and new zealand...actually i had a nice crisp white wine from...forgotten...island of italy
s + not inner
i love the movie 'Sidways.' i learned a little about wine from that film.
sicily
thanks ruru!
tx ru
As much as Molly likes to te5 me about wine.. I am definitely not a snob about wine
that's it ru...it was very nice and only £3.50. i must admit i don't spend alot on wine
It's so nice that we have our own, Babble oenophile.
lol..
just trying to help.. if lillian hasn't had a good experience.. she's been trying the wrong things.. it could also be that her palate has changed to only like dry white wine which is also fine.. but I'll bet dimes to donuts that she likes the Beaujolais with chicken
i got a box of wine the other day from one of our big supermarkets and it was on special...£12 for 3 litres...it was called lions something and from either new zealand or south africa and it was very nice
All in good fun, Ru. (Although that comment will probably ruin my evil Babble reputation)
i am completely stumped by the SA 5/14. help please?
a half man half horse stid
or goat
i also like hardys, a chardonnay from australia but i don't buy it very often as it is expensive here so i only get it on special
goat, ru
ah, thanks.
down to 28
well.. a half man and half goat would also be dick cheney
but have hit the R words (back in a few)
tx ru
how rude. you shouldn't insult goats like that, ru.
LOLOL
it was just a chevre joke
with wine maybe it's the same as duke ellington says of music 'if it sounds good, it is good'
only half?
exactly mab.. and it's all according to personal taste..
My palate has changed a lot since i'm older
don't tell anyone .. but I don't drink Cabernet anymore
wow
i'm telling everyone ru :)
*Blabs at all the oenophile message boards*
what a shocker.
you think you know a person, and then they tell you they no longer drink Cabernet...
♪ What good is sitting ♫ alone in your room ♪ come drink the Cabernet ♫
that's what i said, my tastes have changes, as i was never a wine drinker, but i then drasnk rose, now i can't drink it, now i've gone from a sweet wine to a dry crisp one
how apt...now playing on my tv radio..."red red wine...
thoughts of you leaf my head,...

sorry
it's a SIGN Lillian
*Swishes beer, savors it, spits it back into frosted glass*

massive big lag here
thanks, molly
can't be what molly?
got the fox word! LOL
A 6/7 combo.
te5/12?
i wasn't clueing
Ru said "it isn't" (meaning 6/7 combo) you said "I think it is Ru"
plural of te4/5
and i don't know the french fox
<---Lost all context of the chat.
don't have the te4/5
i said about the song"red red wine " and ru said it was a sign, so i said i think it is ru :)
nm!!
go Une go!
is sa8 related to sa5 and 6?
sa8 is a white wine
huh. is that what started the last half hour of arguing (sorry, ru, educating) about wine?
Back to wine again.
yep, jes! twas, jes! (yes, jes -- for full rhyme)
I'll shut up now.
Don't you dare. That wine conversation was a lot more interesting than some that go one here.
we've not been arguing about wine, ru has been giving me very good tips. tyvm ru...just ignore them :)
Go one?
heh. you needn't on my account, ru, i just missed how the whole thing got rolling. mostly i'm skimming and not paying much attention anyway (obviously)
wine or whine ...
either way, cheese is good :)
hey, BR :-)
ahh, but what cheese goes with the wine jes?
hi BR
hey BR! I am down to 1!!!! (brb)
all of it. better yet, someone else can drink the wine and i'll eat the cheese.
i'll drink the wine, you eat the cheese :)

Well, I'm going to buy some of the suggested wine tomorrow, just cause. : )

jes, dcseain just posted a pic in fb of a snake covered in ticks!! have you ever seen anything like that? I thought they were specialists in mammals
which one, jes?

thanks stid
they looked like ticks, big gray suckers
and unea- i get the clue in retrospect, but was lost on the palm fruit before finding the word. me is dum.
it was posted by Linwood Animal Hospital originally, and they identifed them as ticks.
jes, silly girl
Sounds good Lilliann. As you can see, that topic has been squelched. Cheers!
ok, firewords and i'm off to take pups out to pee *poof*
a snake covered in ticks stid...ewww..i'llo look later
bye une, lovely to see you. tc hin and hu8gs
apparently they are in arkansas
au revoir, Une!

Uh, don't need any help. Thanks. Got the message, loud and clear.
i want to call you mols, but i don't want to upset you
actually you don't use carrier bags in the US do you, isn't it paper bags?
more and more places are asking people to bring their own bags shopping
are you going far molly...i'll give you a lift with your bags :)
so, what do you use stid?
pe6/24 please?
i know watching loads of american programmes you have little brown paper bags
in our family we have a lot of cloth bags we take places, and sometimes I go ahead and get the plastic bags from the stores because they are good liners for small garbage cans
most stores dont offer brown bags. its mostly plastic or bring ur own

thanks
in our area, many places offer ONLY paper, actually cos!
i was going to say a singer that molly would have clued earlier which i knew but i don't know if many know her
And a lot of stores buy compostable "plastic" as well
i know in LA they've banned plastic bags
gotta drive ryan to work brb

I adore that singer, lil! I even have a CD of her music (I don't buy - or listen to - much music)
our shops now ask you if you want a bag and will give you a plastic carrier but they are now tucked down by their knees and if you want a good bag, you have to buy it from them but if they break they will replace them for nowt
bye cos.tc
we used to use waxed paper bags for garbage and in those days you could burn it and evryoe had a compost. Those were the days.
hey saanich!
waxed paper makes sense.
i must admit, she's never been one that i've listened too much
hi saanichat

hello lill..finished yet?
I am trying to get my act together enough to make some tulle bags for vegetables at the stores so I don't need to use the lightweight plastic.
It's supposed to be sunny. I would prefer a lot of rain myself, I hate the incendiaries with a passion. My brother's best friend died as a result of such devices. I have never let my kids have any.
no.getting sidetracked...i'm tired but i'm not so i'm trying to stay up for when the bairn gets up in an hour and 45 minutes
and then will you sleep lil?
I'm with you on the fireworkss (except here)
i'd prefer alot of sun especially after the floods we had stid :)
:-) AFTER Wednesday, sunshine will be most welcome! LOL
hopefully....the thing with me stid is because i get dizzy or pressure in my head i sleep alot so my body clock is all over the place
and for you london-foggy types... *waves magic wand* skies will clear and the lawns will dry out and you will have a lovely middle of your week
Stid, have you thought about coming up for usue's retirement/Babble Challenge? EVERYONE WELCOME!! SERIOUSLY!
I see, that's rough, lil ((hugs)) I slept until almost 11 this morning because I was up sick in the middle of the night. It's awful to be off schedule.
oh no, i hope you are feeling alot better now stid
I am, thanks to ginger tea
i love this song"sing"
it's playing on my tv but on the radio
yes, saanich, and looked in the "one last place" for the passport, didn't find it and now will go tomorrow to apply for a replacement. BUT I don't know if it will get here soon enough for the shindig
gary barlow wrote it and it is people from the commonwealth singing and the miltary wives choir who i think are great
it's bugsaw's retirement, too! We'll have a lot of fun
ginger tea...never had it
I HOPE SO. LUCK BE WITH YOU. sorry didn't mean to yell. For anyone lurking , it's mid august on Vancouver Island, on the water
if i lived nearer, i'd be there
oh that sounds nice, lil -- ginger tea -- take ginger root, peel it, slice it thin and boil it in water for about 15 minutes. I put about 3 cups of water and 1/2 cup sugar for boiling. When the tea is gone the ginger has candied... :-)
it was written for the queen's jubilee
ginger tea makes friends -- name of a book
I use about an inch or two of ginger root per batch, depending on how strong I want it
i'm going to write that down as i always have fr4esh ginger
i drink alot of green tea
it's very soothing for touchy stomachs
I got the celebrant's name mied up-- yes it is bugsy' Retirement Party - the Great Babble challenge. Sorry for the confusion.
I think it's technically just ONE BIG PAR-TEE!!!!! *party mama grin*
I think it is usue coming all the way from Illiois...!
Please excuse all the typos. I need new glasses.
no problem, saanich -- I am about to have to head out because I can't read the chat easily anymore
are your eyes getting worse?
I don't think they are getting worse, but I really can't read normal font or computer-based text for very long. I make the computer fonts really big, and use a magnifer on a floor stand for books and magazines. I use the ipad to read as much as I can, for some reason it's easier for me.
glasses don't help, it's a flaw in the cornea and glasses make it worse!
back
side
:)
that's a toughie;I am so sorry.
sorry to hear that stid.so is there a medical condition for then and can they ndo anything?
yes, it's not fun, but it's manageable. I still technically have 20/20 vision, tending toward far-sightedness. So I can drive and do what I want.
i apologise for my crap typing again
so is there anything that can be done stid?
The corneas have canyons in them, which distort my vision in strange ways. I used to say I could see double with one eye, but it's more like it fractures the light coming in -- turns out my vision was one of the main migraine triggers (not the only one though). When I use eyedrops it fills up the canyons a little bit, but when I get into working/gardening/teaching of course I can't take time to do that. I don't think there is anything that can be done, lil -- I am stuck with it. A genetic flaw that apparently runs in my family.
as in an operation on your cornea?
sorry to hear that nothing can be done stid, so is that why you get5 so many migraines?
yes, that and allergies, I think -- and stress. I think they all contribute.
i've been a long time sufferer but luckily enough i only get about 2 to 3 year, but sadly my bairn seems to take after all the woman in my family and she has them and has to take tablets daily
oh, I am so sorry -- poor kid!
mine was more hormonal but since i've had a hysterectomy 8 years ago i don't suffer like i did before
i really hope that my daughter doesn't suffer like the rest of us in my family an
I haven't noticed any hormone pattern with mine -- last summer was awful as an allergy med I was prescribed triggered daily episodes
I stopped taking that medication! LOL
has to have a hysterectomy in her thirties
ours is all hormonal, as in headaches and migraines, and i'm afraid she will get alot of pain like the rest of us....4 generations and all females in each generation have had to have hysterectomies...
and it's not just headaches but alot of pain abdominally and other things but i won't go into on here
That's not a lot of fun to anticipate
no it's not, so i really hope that she breaks the pattern and hasn't got to go through the pain
there's a lot of new pharma now.
i hope so saanich, but my dsughter
i hope so saanich, but my dsughter

she's like me hates taking tablets, it's not the taking of the tablets..it's tablets for a pro longed period of time

that too ;)
more commonly called skid marks lol
it all started when i was given Jasper, named for his eyes. So she became Feldspar, for the fur pattern on mer belly. Then came Alabaster -- guess his dominant color, though should have named him Mármol or Marble due to the grey tail and ear.
i don't know the tr for it though..am looking
track marks where i grew up.
