he's giving it up as it looks unlikely that he will be well enough to move back there, so we're moving his stuff to a friend's basement. He joined the church (really a Unitarian fellowship) about 3 years ago and has made a lot of friends there in a very short time - he is really a great guy and we are all in shock

he's in his mid-50s; right now he is in a nursing home 30 miles away (due to insurance) but we are trying to get him closer to home. He's the one with the metastatic pancreatic cancer.
good for you (I don't envy the door-to-door campaign stuff)
He's having some radiation therapy to help with the pain (his pelvis is broken) but it's pretty much palliative at this point

he was in some pain and had sought help for his shoulder; they thought he had torn rotator cuff; then he thought he'd snapped his hamstring but that was his pelvis going - when they finally did some comprehensive X-rays they found the cancer in his bones, liver, and lungs

it took more tests before they tracked the original tumor to his pancreas - I think he was diabetic anyway, and he's had heart problems as well

well, the bank might actually agree with option 1. If not, go with option 2 and start over. That would be my advice. Get another place for yourself first because it can be hard to rent once you have a bankruptcy on your record. Get your own separate bank account and put some money in it (from joint accounts if necessary).

Min, you do NOT have to pay for your husband's lawyer, if he can't afford one that is his problem. Neither of my last 2 husbands could afford lawyers and I didn't pay for either one.

Court appointed lawyers are only for criminal cases, bugs, divorces are civil.

It took me a long time jut to meet with a lawyer. That was a HUGE step for me. That meeting was just a consultation.
Yes, I have NEVER heard of one person paying for both lawyers. My husband had lots of money and could afford to get a lawyer with the soul of a shark and I had $60, a 30 year old car and two kids when I left. I never went back, we always ate, and I worked my way back into mental health with every good decision I made. You can do it when you are ready.
I can't believe I got myself into this mess. I thought I was a smarter person than this! I can't totally blame my husband.
