well, dee, there was surgery last time, but by the time it was done, i had been in pain for nearly 2 1/2 years. then the time post-op, another 12 months, so i was on continual meds for nearly 4 years. i wasn't happy.

hey, good news is i am nearly back to the weight i was 8 years ago. so as soon as i can tolerate sitting with my knee bent for prolonged periods, i'm gonna climb onto the back of the motor bike. YEAH!!!! give me a high five!!

In the local county home they have a separate Alzheimer's wing, which makes more sense to me - we are trying to get him in there but there is a waiting list
In my experience with places that care for Alzheimer's patients, it's always better to have them in a separate place.
dementia is so devastating. I am sure they were people who wud never have taken anything that didn't belong to them when they were healthy. It is one of the things that cause them distress in the early stages
there's one lady who keeps coming in and insisting he's in her room, that there's a woman in bed with him, that someone's in the bathroom - if we call the staff they come get her, but it's distressing
ah well. I get to babble while he is gone :-)
Distressing is a good word to describe anything to do with dementia.
I think the people who work with dementia patients are saints
well, I have managed to get exactly half way here but it has been a struggle!
I do too Bugs. After my Dad passed, we got his nursing team some flowers to say thank you for all they had done for him.

Can't help but comment on the odd sports, though - I taught a course in the physics of sports this spring and after doing some of the more usual ones (at least for us in the US) I did some less familiar ones (sumo, archery, sailing) and it was a lot of fun.
