we finally have EXTREMELY hot weather for the first time in our 15 yrs here. It gets up to about 100F in the afternnon, awful for the dogs.
at last the bedroom is airconditioned.

probably about 6-10 days over Summer but usually only 2 or 3 days together so my house doesn't get too bad. No AC here.

yes, but it's hard to keep stubborn Ruby where it's cool enough.
But, for some reason, my computer went on the fritz in the heat and I couldn't get into e-mail or games.
You need one of those large plastic shells they have for childrens sandpits...they make lovely baths for dogs
just fell of my chair laughing. These dogs do not like water and can't swim. And Ruby weighs about 75 lbs, Rufie is getting there fast, too.
just picture me trying to push these huge, stinky furry creatures into the water!
The last time we gave Ruby a bath (when husband could still help me), she immediately went out of the tub and rolled in dirt
these dogs are not geniuses!!!!
No - I couldn't get Stew to walk into one either. They are only 6 inches deep...other greyhounds loved lying in them on a hot day

well, my entire inlaw family is pissed at me. DH met with my stepdaughter and had a dicussion about firearms and the ramifications of having shot at each other, etc., and the drinking. Won't have much affect, I am afraid. I am giving up and not talking about this anymore to this dysfunctional family. I spoke with my husband's brother yesterday - he is a psychologist (and his wife as well). They have nothing to do with the family. He validated the fact that the whole family is dysfunctional.
I feel completely isolated.

we went out for a day the other week and her grandad jokingly said "your'e getting a little belly on you" and that she never stops eating, so now she has it in her head that she is fat! she stops at her grandad's every weekend and gets bored at times so she then dwells on it and phones me crying. she says she's not going to eat or drink anymore. i keep telling her she's not fat, she is nearly 13 and is in puberty and that her body is changing.she is active and i tell her i'm jealous, i wish i had her body shape
Lill - my dad said that to me at age 9 and even though I was thin later, I still thought I was fat and still do. Can you ask grandad to say how great and fit she looks?

she gets on the scales and says she is putting weight on and then says she has lost it, but as i tell her, she is quite active so she has muscular legs and muscle weighs more than fat. i don't want her to become anorexic, but at the moment she just won't listen to me. she wants too, but doesn't believe what i'm saying

Oh Lilli, she needs some help with this. Grandad should not say that again! but Sometimes looking at Calories and discussing how they give one energy can really help...and it is very hard to undo. She probably wont believe Granddad again if he tells her somethig different.

THis is good Lilli. Sometimes when a person has eating fear, there is a technique used called meal planning...
You give the person a choice of say 2-3 items, or 2-3 meals (like Lasagne, green beans, milk OR Meatloaf, green salad, milk, etc)
It is kind of extremem, but once they choose it, they have to eat it...
In that case, maybe it would be more dangerous to make a mountain out of a molehill -- she obviously isn't in any immediate danger. But I would talk to gramps and ask him not to make any comments about the food she eats or her shape/size
Maybe ask gramps to stock some healthier snack choices as well.
and maybe not to give her sweets much?

the small ones from hotels. yes. we put them in the holiday baskets along with the food as a special treat
because often the people who get food at a food pantry can't afford toiletries either, lillian
food bank....they divvy them up anyway cus if you cant afford food you likely cant afford soap shampoo etc
the one in town gives TP and shampoo and soap wth food
and I bring perfume and other things I don't want often during the year. people always take them.

many food pantries/food banks will accept and redistribute anything you could find in a grocery store, not just food.

Well, it storms each day here. He did not used to be afraid of storms, it just gets worse and worse.
get a recording of thunder, play it very quietly and give him lots of attention and rewards for staying calm. when he's good and calm reliably at very quiet, bump the volume up a little louder and repeat. expect to do this very gradually over several weeks. then add flashing/flickering lights and start over.
I tried the tight t shirt and that sort of helped...
I could try that. he tends to get nervous even before we see a storm...like an hour before anything occurs.
turn your radio up, leave the lights on, turn on any fans/white noise machines you have to sort of muffle the thunder

When I googled it, both came up on the definition, which makes no sense since they're different. Hmmmm....
Coitus interruptus is pulling out. I don't think I need to define masturbation.
i think it's the concept of ejaculation outside of the vagina, that put both definitions together.
Either way, I never would've known. it's not a word that's self explanatory. Learned something new!

that's what i thought to GE-- was there in late May and they seemed to be digging up the mall, as well as lots of building going on around
they are putting drains on the mall so that when the swamp takes it back it will take longer

there are so many cranes around the city and scaffolding on so many buildings (earthquake repair?) and then of course the mall :(
well the scaffolding at the cathedral is earthquake repairs for sure

i think it depends on the city molls. . .some didn't get stopped by the recession and others still haven't started up again

well new york is constantly being reinvented; there is always construction happening... but it seemed DC had more than its usual share last Spring
On reason there is so much construction in DC is the constant renovation work to old buildings, of which it has many.
