I'm off for the night too - bye all
bye Lynxxx! Good night!
sleep well, lyn :) xxx
and now it is time for crossys tidbit of the day!!!!
let's have it, crossy
The Bee Gees never liked their name. In fact, after Robert Stigwood signed on as the band’s producer in 1967, the group lobbied to change it. But what could possibly be better than The Bee Gees? The band suggested Rupert’s World. Luckily, their manager nixed the notion.
funny tidbit, crossy, thanks for sharing
They started out as "The Brothers Gibb" when their Dad was the manager!
:)
and a tidbit from car as well! :))
You are such a good influence on me Crossy!
the Bee Gees just has a ring to it
:))
Hey, I told my DH that you all were picking on me yesterday for my color coded calendar! He was laughing his butt off!
*grins @ the good influence*
what the heck is wrong with a colour coded calendar??
I use Google Calendar and it's color coded
not just the calander in and of itself, but how you have it all detailed right into december
lol
i have no clue what i am doing 5 minutes from now lol
That has been recommended to me Bichon, but I have to physical write something down and then it is in my brain.
I call that organised and structured. I could use some of that!
I don't know 5 minutes from now either Crossy, but starting next week, the boys have swimming on Saturday!
i call myself controlled chaos
I think he just enjoyed that I was getting international shit!
or eclectic dishoarmony
One of the features of Google calendar is that you can send alerts to your Gmail acocount. I have my Gmail account synced to my Smart Phone. Therefore I get prompts
well, next week my ki9ds start school again, and all the other stuff belonging to normal life. So yes, I will have to keep a calendar and right now, colour coded sounds great to me :)
so... now all I need is a smart phone? LOL
okay, but you can check your gmail account every day
my mrs would vote for you car,she says there are some days i cannot find my own caboose with both hands
It works really well for me. Each person has their own highlighter, so I can just glance at the calendar and the color jumps right out at me.
yes, I could do that. Am gonna look into this. I SO need more structure to my days. Part of the whole therapy thing too... and I am clueless.
Oh my god! I just realized! I had a dream about Elegant last night! She was gorgeous in my dreams!
awww
describer her to me
I dreamt that I had finally made it to see you Crossy and she was there, of course! We had a wonderful time!
crossy, I could help you find it, though...
lol
(just joking)
I really can't Crossy. The memory is very faded. She was slender and had glasses and her hair was up. She was very "elegant"!
car, describer her to me,i want to see how close you were
...clearly crossy must be laughing has he has not come back...
sire
oops
now now, enough of the kissing up to crossy there ;)
I really wasn't. that is what I remember.
she has honey brown here with the highlights and is falls straight to the bottom of her tushie, she is 5 foot 2 and cvurvy like the 40s and 50,s models, not like these rail thin anorexic women holly wood throws at us,she has long slender fingers and on good days with her vision enjoys caligraphy, she smiles often and easily and when she is drawing and thinks i am not looking,i will sit there and watch her her as the sun dances of her hair in the morning
hee sweetie, just kidding!
hair
hearing you talk about her is just poetry
Omg Crossy. What an incredible description! It is clear how much you adore her! And I wasn't that far off! She DID have light hair in the dream!
{{Crossy & Elegant}}
:))
19 years this oct first(we dated for 2 years before that)
:)
I wonder if my DH ever thinks of me like you do of Elegant?
How wonderful Crossy!
i am sure he does,me? i just think too much,my mrs says my tongue is hinged in the middle so it can flap at both ends
hi
howdy harp
hi harpjane

cool
very nice
Angel, how are your parents?
my parents are doing well; they are in an apartment while their house is being rebuilt, which is well underway. they should be ready to move back in to the house by mid October.
they had problems with the ins companies?
I will keep them in my prayers.
my mom called the other day wanting to find a way to remove smoke odor from a leather coat, and I was ablle to help her with that. No problems with the insurance company at all for them.
good stuff;)
Yummmy! One of my favorite candy bars is in the grid!!!!
did they have a fire?
phantom soiree
Hi hokie carla!!!!
hi hokie carla
hello!
Hi all. Is Lickety up?
Hi erda!
harp, there was a grease fire in their home on July 8. They were fortunate to get out. Lost much of the contents of the house, and half of it was destroyed
oh, that's awful. glad they are doing well.
wow, what an experience!
Stats please for the second column i? I think I know what it starts with, but can't figure it out.
a little piece of land surround by water
whoops, you wanted stats, not clues
is 4 & 5
That's OK. I was totally going in another direction with what I was looking for, so thank you!
God had them in the palm of His hand. I almost lost them and my oldest brother, who is 11 months younger than I am
I was looking for iso- words!
ptl angel
what a awful experience. So glad they are alright.
this is- is one I always miss.
and now, because i found it so interesting, here is a bonus tidbit of the day!!!
The first seedless grapes were kind of an accident. Thousands of years ago in the Middle East, a random genetic mutation caused a group of grapes to spontaneously abort their own seeds before the seeds could develop hard casings. The result: seedless produce. To reproduce the fruit, a sly farmer simply cloned the vine (with no seeds, there’s nothing to plant)—meaning that all seedless grapes today are direct descendants of that one mutated grape vine.
my mom made me laugh. she told me, "I think I am going to get rid of a lot of excess clutter and just live with less!"
hokie, there are a few words i always type in, even if I don't see them, for example if there is a C in the grid, i try niece. I have missed it so many times it's not funny!
awesome, I hate seeds in grapes.
Oh that is how they do it!!!!!! Cool! TY Crossy!
wow that is very interesting. What an idea... all from that one plant.
good tidbits today.
good idea harp.
:)
hey hursh :)
I think that she is on to something Angel! We should all do that!
lol angel
i always type the dolphin now
And seedless grapes are of course not as good-tasting as seeded ones, but who the hell cares about taste?
My husband and I had a flood and it still didn't get rid of enough stuff.
she said she REALLY wanted to rermodel the house, anyway, so..............now it will be!
hello everybody
never noticed a taste difference

what does it begin with
hi9/72
HI + ***tica + a***t (grownup) + second vowel
alternate spelling of the greek sandwich, gyro, with a vowel in the middle. then add an anagram of Burr-Hamilton du4
It's a temple slave in ancient Greece
0_o
not a word you hear a lot in the western world any more
nice clue, harp! nbs!
and erda!
i can't believe it was actually useful....you and i are so weird, sue!
ty harp.great clue
stilldont get it
start with the courageous knight who comes to the rescue, insert the i.
first 5 letters are the beginning of Egyptian writing (hi***glyphs), then a scrambled sword fight
first part sounds like a brave person who saves lives, second part sound like what men do with pistols at 40 paces in old days
or just listen to uusue
by the end of the day we'll have the clue figured out!
and crossy
or listen to suze:)
by the way, i got me some jalapeno bacon pizza last night....
how many words?
229
ty
bacon pizza!!!
with jalapeno bacon (as opposed to jalapenos and bacon)
is there anything that bacon cannot do? squee!
i don't recommend polishing shoes with bacon. it excites the cats too much
lol attracts racoons as well
which also excites the cats
all cats are adhd anyways
no kidding
here kitty,kitty..want some adderall?
they play by their own rules, for sure!
we have to go pick up a px for our furry darling today. something tells me it's going to be pricey
always is
We should start an office pool to guess how much it will be. It had to be called into a regular pharmacy, not an animal hospital. Needed to be compounded.
amd the pet insurance has so many loopholes
We don't have pet insurance. But I bet we would meet the deductible every year....
here you can use UP TO 6 grand in one year BUT you can only tap into it once,so if kitty has a 1000 dollar vet bill today and you use the insurance, the rest is lost
I should hire him or adopt him so I can write off his expenses.
so you have to gamble,do i use it for this or wait in case something more expensive comes along?
only way to win is to get a vet to hold the bills till then end of the year and write it all up as a single visit
which i have yet to find one that will
My sister and I had a contest one year to see who would have the highest vet bill.
2 years ago i had one for 1800 dollars
technically she won, but her vet was a family friend who wrote off the charges
I looked at pet insurance but it looked too expensive for the benefits, so we just hope the animals don't get expensive diseases (so far we have been lucky)
kitty nhad a cyst on her tail that exploded and when they fixed that tthey killed all the blood flow to her tail so 1/2 of it was removed
We live in Montana where you fall in love with your animals and then sell them at the Fair....
suze, you cannot win with pet insurance
now a drug card would be a help
maybe i can get him some medical mary jane
yes, I remember your kitty's tail, crossy!
matter was all over the kitchen!! never knew one of those could let go like that!! poor kitty
now she has a stubby tail that she seems to love, when she gets excited she wags it like a puppy
who has a list?

Old old old computer os
ty kje - good clue
yw
lol - remember being exited to get that os --- had a computer that had to be programmed in basic before that!

Crazy now isn't it? It looks so archaic. The VA records are based on it still
hard to think that not so long ago we used audio tapes for memory storage, let alone the big floppys
Found a floppy case the other day... took me a bit to figure out what it was
I remember a salesman coming into the resource centre where I worked and saying that the floppy discs (5" ones) were going to be obsolete and that the one he held in his hand was the future. It was a silver disc that looked much like the cd we have now only it was the size of a 78 rpm record.
Wow! I don't even remember those ever being used...hopefully he didn't invest a lot in those
remember the video disk machines cybernan? they came out about a year before betamax and vcr
I think they were use commercially for a while - to store archives, movies, etc.
Didn't have one of those, crossy - our first was a vcr
or was it vhs?
Like record player size cross?
i can still hear in my mind the unique sound of a 4 1/2 floppy grinding its way up to speed....
vhs and beta..i was sure beta would of won
i skipped video cassettes completely.
time I was out in the garden -- back later to finish. thanks for all the excellent clues
they were kje,you would insert it plastic sleeve and all and when it clicked, you pulled the sleeve out
enjoy, nan
Things moving too fast, continued: There was a Fred Astaire movie that was made in a system that only existed for a few months. When they found the movie, they realized they had no machine to play it on, so they had to build the machine from scratch...
Missed those too then
hagd nan
crossy misses his 16 track reel to reel player...
Which movie?
i could splice tape like crazy!
It was with a partner who opnly existed for a few minutes - - Barrie something?
Down to 19. Hit the wall. Will take a break and see you all later
I've given up on the grid for now. It's much harder to solve the clues I,
Never heard of it weds, interesting, will look it up

tis golden
d's done :)
finally found it many thanks Cross
well, turns out i have two smoke detectors in the same location, less than 2 feet apart, only i didn't notice the other one, because it was behind the light fixture. so i was trying all these things to stop the chirping in the WRONG ONE!
Yes Hursh, because I was creeped out that you cut the power and took out the battery and it was still working.
Can't properly concentrate on the grid for watching Paralympics. They keep questioning classifications of some who win, which must be hugely stressful when they have to go on.
now that i changed the other one's battery it is fine!
dels
SORRY sorry sorry.
Why two so close together?
i have no idea. i bought the home second hand. or third hand, or whatever.

Im reading a board review book on tje mornings, and a bio on Einstein at night. Then just started a book on wheat also
Is it primarily about Garfield?
a book on wheat??
Yes
is it because you have a rye sense of humor?
largely... but many subplots one involving alexander graham bell.... the politics of the time... kind of fun to be reading about this completely dysfunctional republican convention while listening to tim pawlenty and the like in the background
oh no, don't get him started. he was born and bread to make puns
I have no sense of humor, haven't you heard
...lol
you didn't buy that book on wheat for a buck did you?
nyuck nyuck
Yuck yuck
did someone say you don't have a sense of humor?
What 2 s's am I missing from the left column?
not 5 + most of not coffee
dunno, kj, i'm missing 6
and i have that one
OMG I could kiss you for that!
kje doesn't
Down to 1
*don't go overboard kje*
not fair ru, she only needed two, i need six, so i was needier...

Hi lynn
sorry
uh oh. no lickety?
no lickety
molly has a list
Don't worry about trying to clue it. Too many d's to try that. But if you can give me the total points, I'll at least know where to monkey
a Volley instead
so these 39 will take two hours?
I heard volleydee has a list
well, shouldnt look a gift horse in the mouth, even if it isn't the thorobred lickety is,
No? Not done Ru? Don't know the total points?
still monkeying with the le7/28 and 8/40, please
i'm done.. total points are 3704
le + most of not brother
So I need a 5/12 then....monkeys working
And congrats
de 5/`12 a believer in god?
congrats to you both (premature for kj, but any second now)
does anyone have a list today?

Congrats kje!
Nope a do that I thought I had entered, but thanks anyway
when do you set up your computer?
Babble on iPhone sucks... we need an app!

The modem comes ups, so hopefully tiesday
No kindle
sw 5 not norwegian
how do you get to Molly's list?
I dont know how you do it on iphone
The issue is Internet doren

I have just eaten half a bag of candy corn and I do feel ill.
thank you very much ... thought it would be something right there in front of me
Button - look on Who's Online
It is ok until you hit the wall then it gets painful and you hope people ask for clues
need de7/32 9third one, do7/32 and do7/48 pleese
I just had trouble with a couple
still having trouble with a couple.
Thankfully someone clued the hi9-10 as soon as I came on, the rest wasn't horrid
My monkeys deserve their own banana boat
I don't have the faintest clue as to how dee and dart finish these things without a list.. it's amaznig
They are clearly wordier and nerdier than me ; )
and jac too. Diligent use of morewords?
wordier for sure...
Ha!
:D
thanks, ruru, got the list
But how would morewords help you without a list? That would be beyond painful
what did you buy her for lunch?
great button.. have at it
this is true!
I've used morewords without a list, but its sort of hard to explainhow I used it that way...
and probably harder to understand it
I wouldn't know where to start unless there's only certain options
I use morewords b4 the list too
I should go explore. Need to get off my butt. Thanks for the help all.
bye kje
have fun kje ..it's a big city..
let me know when you have the vegetarian rolls
enjoy kj
Actually, it's not!
5x7 miles at it's widest!
Ru. Email me the wine name and stores if you can? I can't scroll back to see things from the other day. Maybe I'll wine shop this weekend. Today I want to find good smoked fish. Going to check out the Russian and euro markets in the richmond

yep.. i'll send it right now.. there's one near you and one in Hayes Valley..
Thanks. Poof
Hey all. Blast! I missed kje. I would have begged her to have a chowder in sourdough for me. Its been 5 years since I was in SF, but the memory lingers.....
hi Soodle
Hey Lynn. Spring is starting there in Oz? Lucky you!
it is...going to be a perfect Spring day today...young ones will be out in Tshirts and shorts I bet..a sure sign of Spring
but after spring comes HEat.
...and of course all the young irish backpackers - working on getting sunburnt - will be leading the pack
Arrgh!! White spindly legs dangling out of too-tight shorts!! I'm familiar with the sight!
Hey Red:-)
hi soodle, and everyone.
hello folks
I am sitting here nursing a tummy ache, I over ate on the candy corn...evil stuff.
hi Red & TOwl
HI TO!
Tsk tsk Red! I'm sitting here, with mystomach
hello and greetings
hi Science
My stomach thinking my throats been cut! Yet another diet.... Le sigh!
hello, lynn and oooh, red! :(
Hi Science. :-)
I am on one too, and it shoud not include candy corn...but I had a judgement lapse.
does anyone have a list?
Last time I checked in here, the discussion was a book about wheat. : O Now diets. : (
Hi TO :-)
Volleymomdee
and Molly?
Dee's list is in my profile, Science.
cannot get her profile
ty
hi soods. i just finished the new john grisham and i felt cheated.
I saw something about you been taken out to lunch Molls! Spill the beans.... (metaphorically......)
Why so,TO? Not up to scratch?
No clue what you saw about me being taken out to lunch. Today?
it was quite a thin story. perhaps all the good reviews were from folks looking for a short beach read. though i thought NPR touted it.
Thats a pity TO. Molly, somebody asked how to get todays list & Ru suggested that they take you out to lunch!
I hate it when a favourite author has a new book & it falls short of expectations. John Irving has let me down with his last couple of books. :-(
i just read "In One Person", i thought it ws a bit over the top. i had never read grisham before.
need the last two de 5 and 6 please
maybe it is the first two de now that I look at the list
nm got them
Sorry Science. I'm just after starting.
need de7/32 after "wants"

crossy are you hungry?
i am dying..first day of diet started today
have a few pounds that most be lost..well more than a few...
Eat lots of lean protein and veggies 4 times a day
no gobs of butter on fresh warm crusty bread..;(( no mounds of melted cheese on pasta:(( no pile of bacon..now a once a week treat only..no snassages:( no deep fried battered chicken skins..waaaa!
stir
stirer
so so so sorry!!!!!
Someone has been sawing cedar. Smells lovely
relax spanner,we no longer put people to the cross for that;))
Good it would not be sturdy enough to hold me..!!
I too have started a diet today Crossy...isnt it vile.
You both will adjust....lean protein and veggies
stuck at 18
Missing one S from the top left
eat a plant based diet and you will lose weight, veggies, fruit, grains and nuts
and moderate exercise
I will never adjust, I will forever crave home made lasagne, cut in wedges, dripping with bechamel sauce and parmesan and accompanied by garlic ciabatta..
I love lean protein...could never be a veg head
spanner, maybe just once in a while and a smaller portion than usual
sounds delish but fattening
I have been diagnosed with diabetes which can be dealt with by diet...
got distracted.. owl?
My hobby is cooking....
lol yes?
16
I adore food, not eating it, just growing it and preparing it, and cooking it, and big family meals...
i am nearly done with In One Person. been enjoying it... but isn't it John Irving, not John Grisham? Or am I just very confused?
managing diabetes by diet is certainly doable. just a lot to learn about carbs.. .simple v. complex etc.
it is. that man can tell a story. but I find the premise a bit farfetched. calico joe is grisham
john irving is always farfetched.... remember garp?
Loved garp
yes. but this just seems more so than usual. great writer though.
have you read his latest sciencegeek? he's still "got" it
oh, i thought this was actually so much more believable than garp was.. maybe i remember it wrong. but yes, he really does such a great job of telling a story.... another one of those books i almost wish I weren
weren't about to finish
No dorens. Currently reading tim powers and watching girl with dragon tatt trilogy
Stopping at 14.....see you all tomorrow! crossy, will eat in your dieting honor
ok, you have a treat in store for you... great book if you loved garp
it was the seeming heredity of the protagonist's proclivities that i found odd. i guess his point is that continuum of what is present in one person.
because everyone lay somewhere on that contiuum
certainly a disproportionate number of people!
exactly!
but of course the wrestling is in there as well!
but it's john irving... you just expect things to be somewhat skewed, warped, or whatever
i loved the wrestling. i love all the oddball characters too! am going to recommend it to my book group, it should make for some fun discussions
miss frost lol i just knew it
spanner,you are killing me
my next book will be gone girl, cause i also just finished destiny of the republic and am due for some light beach reading
all the foood ive loved before, that now is going out the door,im glad they came along,i weep because they are gone..for all the food that i adore.....waa
calico jack is very light. not worthwhile light.
there were certainly a few clues along the way, lol
have you ever read any edmund white?
i don't like reading grisham... he became very formulaic a long time ago no
i don't like reading grisham... he became very formulaic a long time ago
time to go, i am very very tired. happy babbling all
nite owl
before i go, you do know about the leonard cohen special tonight on pbs?
wow. no i don't.. was planning on reading the paper when i finish this monster... thanks for the info. i've had bird on a wire in my head for days. love him...
i have been singing closing time for days. just hope i don't fall asleep.
It is a rerun. It is fantastic. Leonard Cohen = a brilliant poet and songwriter/singer.
can't you record it? i'm going now.. see if i can find it and be sure not to "get distracted" and miss it. night all
it is on the phila station, i don't see it on njn so check ch 13 or the li station
i expect i'll get it on 13, thanks
Cohen did these shows because his manager ripped him off and he was broke. In one show, he collapsed from exhaustion. Still, a brilliant performance.

hi, all. my dad called earlier to ask if we would like some company tomorrow. He and my mom are coming out for a fish fry. He said they will likely have to stay in the apartment until the end of December, because they have had two contractors back out of rebuilding the house, and it's taking a long time to get required permits and licensed tradespeople to do the work.
Hello Angelsong! How are you doing?Welcome to the puzzle

23 left. sure could use lickety
Yeah
am using dee's list
?
Dee's list in my profile.
How do people come up with these?
no idea :-)
i cant use users list when the grid is this big. lol
but ty anyway
They finish the grid, copy and paste the word list and then delete all but the first two letters and the letters/points. It's a labor of love. And we love Dee. : D
If you copy a users list into an Excel document, you can type in your words as you go along. It's tedious, but it works for some.
I tried that once. always forgot to add words.
my question is how in the world anyone comes up with all the words withOUT a list in the first place! LOL
top row R greyed.
We are all terribly spoiled by Lickety and God help us if he ever decides to quit doing the list.
we will find another way :)
1 more R.....
I'm pretty sure that the list of 744 finishers would be a lot shorter if that had been a "Non-Lickety" day.
competition would become real lol yikes
It feels like a communal effort to me, at flip, everyone is sharing how many they have, and working together. I rather like it, before Lickety comes up.
Well, it would clearly define who can do a grid with no list and who can't. Not being competitive about this game, it wouldn't really matter to me.
right. can find big words without lickety but with a little shove. thats a nice feeliing for me
Yeah Rasta, but getting clues from other people is just as "dependent" as using a list. I think the real challenge is how many words you can find without a list or clues. But that's just me.
that makes sense too
so many of the words are non-words, or specialized words. Those who've been doing it a long tima and know all those strange things that Enable accepts.... newbies would never finish. I have a pretty big vocab, but so many I've never seen, and even the linked dictionary doesn't know...
I do much better now that I know more of these "babblets"
I don't know - it feels like doing a crossword puzzle with my sister, to me. I don't have to do it all alone. I can exult in someone else's cleverness as well
I've finished the grid in less than 30 without a list. thats fun too. makes me feel good about myself btu then again u know...
And that's fine Rasta. I firmly believe that this is a game to be played however you want. But I don't think boasting about how well you are doing without "listing" really counts if you have been asking for clues all day, or scouring the archive of the day for clues. Again, just me.
Well, no; no clues means no clues. Turn off chat. Or don't boast. I agree.
But I like the chat. I like the community here.
There are no written rules for babble other than those found in Help.
well, that's true too.
The other day, there was someone who (I swear to God) asked for a clue for every word in the grid. Not much of a challenge, the way I see it. And yes, it's a great chat, and a great community, save a few exceptions that I will not comment on.
((((BR)))) thank you for your words today. *relurk*
On the other hand, even chat has some rules; it's not fair to just shout out the answers.
Jamie, Dr.God, tells me he expects people to work there differences out themselves
Nope, no rules. I don't think anyone mentioned rules. And Rasta, I agree about people who feel the need to shout out answers. That's not fun for many people.
Jamie is a great board owner and he has some interesting ideas about what goes on here.
Those who do not like the way I play have no basis to be critical of me .... If no rule governs my conduct you have two options .... accept it or report me.
