Thanks Lickety!

co 7
ef 7/8 NBT/NBS
fe 7/8
strange words, diz/
nbt, nbs
te 7/8, same as the fe words
WTG Nan
*found the fe, but still looking for the ef
hi all gl:)
hi alta
compound word, Nan
wtg nan -- haven't been looking at chat
late flip; howdy all! hi jili, diz, nan, alta...
hi Dee
hi dee gl
ty - 8's done
hi flosey!
hmf -- no jetsons
can't believe there are 10 j's!
re-hi flosey
hi again jilli, just back with my tea
falling asleep already -- crazy-mad day
has the wind died down any, jill?
think I'll be heading out early tonight
it comes and goes, nan -- lost poer again during the night, but had a brief spell on sunshine this afternoon
*power
fireworks
tomorrow is supposed to be the same
we have been starting out the day with an hour of sunshine, then rain for the rest of the day -- no wind, thank goodness
wow Mitch, wtg
fantastic again, mitch -- can't imagine how you can do these grids so fast.
amazing! well done
just have a knack for it, i guess - thx
very nice, mitch!!
nbt nbs
wtg dee
tyvm
can't stay awake -- early (for me) rising this morning
fading here too
well done Dee
thx, flosey
Then phone calls all day re credit card blocking on this island -- soimething fishy going on. Been in touch with police, local paper, bank!
shopped very carefully today jilli, tks for heads up
wow.. my credit card # got stolen a week ago
125 down and crashing -- see you tomorrow :)
where and how ru?
I'd like to get at least nbt before quitting -- need the bottom corner T and the 4th column O
te 7 and te 8 like the fe's jili
don't know dee. all the sudden I had dozens of charges in florida
do you have te6/18 jilli
I"ve only been to florida once
wow, scary
oo 4
in the 1990's
hubby had an issue with his American Express last month... very odd, isn't it?
At least I now have 2 different credit cards. There's an awful lot of this going on, ruru.
it's a very nasty one Dee
i think they scramble numbers until they hit
no te6/18 flosey
No, ru -- they steal your ID
simple 4 + 2 vowels
that hasn't happened
something's up... we have never had any issues until this year - and we have had cards for 30+ years...
ditto, dee -- the thieves are more sophisticated, and the cards have chips in them now
so 7 if not called
we had a nasty one years ago, charged twice for airline tickets - by the time we got home, that office had closed, bank absorbed the double billing
too true, jili
I gotta go to bed... night all
ru, I just mean your bank ID numbers, electroniacally
that's good, flosey... guess that is really the key... who is the carrier of the card and will they stand by the innocent consumers
gnight alta
no. .just my chase card
they caught it on the first day
their security is pretty good
got the O, thks, diz
AExp caught hubby's, too, within 24 hours
flosey -- simple 4???
lots of coral gables charges
:D
exam
wow, found the j's ... wasn't sure I could find that many
Oh, they catch the bad charges and don't penalise us -- just block our cards. But catching the thieves is harder now
wtg Dee
ty
especially since they can be international crooks
ty flosey -- finally the monkeys got that T so nbt
our little island has always seemed so safe
good jilli
But there's been so much limited to our island lately it's felt there's somebody here doing it.
I know this is probably a fish, but does anyone have both i's? I only have io 4
Even the guy I spoke to at the bank here said he had just lost his card!
is 7
ty so much diz looking
ooh my
thx diz, don't remember that word
And the guy at the credit card company had had his compromised 3 times!
it really is frightening
just a damn nuisance -- our accounts are portected
I am such a cynic; I always wonder if some of the breaches are credit card or bank employees.
i'm really careful with my cards too
plus I change my identity weekly
*protected so am I -- I keep mine in a metal case, having heard that they can't be stolen electronically with metal protection.
*so tired -- *protection
clawing my way to 150
stuck at 133
139
I hear if you keep two diferent cards together, thenumbers get a bit scrambled so it's not so easy for the "skimmers" to get them with their hidden infernal machines. But see http://www.snopes.com/fraud/identity/p\nickpocket.asp
ah, that' good to know
sorry -- I screwed up the chog. 'll go to bed now and good luck all...*poof
good night jilli
*tucks jilli in*
here's that link abbreviated: http://tinyurl.com/23jjwu2
sweet sleep jilli
oh damn, that didn't help. somebody chat a lot and get rid of the widened chog!
blah blah blah
lol no worries, jili
Hi all - Jilli you can scroll across the chog
keep it going!
I know, but that a bother, liz
Sleep well Jilli
forget it jilli
thanks, Liz
ok, flosey, I'll try
keep it to a few words jilli :D
Should be better now
looking good
yep, ruru

tried that too Dee
mine is screw
sooo close lol
wouldn't it be ru
does it count that I always see it?
can't even find all the e's... gonna have to list tonight
lol

can't get that ta7
ah, my first 8, te7 and 8
start with the powder + shape of mouth in exclamation + abbreviation for southeast
thanks Dee
yqw
got it
wtg
still not even half way
this one is a struggle
it is, Dee
funny how different letter combinations are harder than others
yes
wow, looks like we're the only ones left, wonder if rose will be in soon
I was wondering the same thing. Everyone must be trying to catch up on sleep for Thanksgiving :)
ah, could be
our daughter and son-in-law come in tomorrow night... finished pies and monkey bread tonight... I even preset the table ... have to pace how much I do at one time :)
co 7 x 2
I am so happy I came to the grid tonight and found the ef7/8!
wtg and hi freep!!
have one of them Dee, looking for other
good for you justa, haven't found those yet
The only place I think I've ever seen it is in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner!
must read that one day
Hi again
ty for the ancient mariner clue!
hi liz
Excuse my ignorance but when is thanksgiving?
just read a bit of it in Sparknotes - didn't find the word
do you have the ef 4/7?
I had to read it - found it online-literature.com
ef 7 and its plural ef 4/7 + not late, but so 4
yes
I knew the poem but guess I'd glossed over that word!
Good clue Dee
thanks Dee, great clue
ty vm, so glad you found it!
fireworks, finally!
wtg Dee
Congrats Dee :)
was so thankful for lickety for my last 17
ty liz
Well, all, I need to get going. Enjoy the rest of the grid, and have a great day / eve!
Sleep well Dee
sweet sleep Dee

Free clues are appreciated, TY.
i am still working on my first tea and that is my excuse and i am sticking to it
I finished my mug of coffee and am waking up slowly.
BRB
hello
Hi Ruby. Is there a holiday capon waiting to be cooked? : D
couldn't get a capon, just a VERY big chicken. I'll make my mother's "traditional" stuffing and serve escargots (not like my mother) and pumpkin pie
how do you remember so much stuff, molly??
Blessed with a good memory. It comes in handy at times. : )
it's terrific
Sounds like you have a nice meal planned. I hope Mr. Grumpy is appreciative.
he is really trying to be nice, but is truly failing. I just hope he holds it together long enough for me to go away for my little "escape" and come back
hello again
If he doesn't, I will personally come to France and kick his ass.
I used to make very elaborate (and too expensive) feasts for our local friends, but after a while, I realized that they had no idea of the occasion
Hi Ruby
as you know, of course, molly, you would be more than welcome here!
lol...Molly..me too
Hi again
{{smores}}
Hi again
hiyz lizlin
I think there
be lots of kicking!
Sorry he is failing, but glad to hear is he is trying
I worry about his continuing to drive, but taking away his car keys would be terrible
((ruby)) as long as he is not a hazard to others
{{crossy}}
he drives slowly; I am just afraid that he'll get lost
Too tired to find any more words. 71 left. Can't see me finishing this one! Enjoy your days. :)
lol...ruby
bye lizlin
Nite Liz - sleep well
but we used to go to Geneva at least once a month but no longer do it
now, when people visit, they have to either take a bus (!!) or a taxi from Geneva Airport
rent a car
or, yes, rent a car
ty BR
I forgot about that option
why do you not drive to Geneva anymore? Too far, or too hectic?
;) BR - good morning to you
it's too hard for him and he won't let me drive
Hello, smores
it's only 35 mins to the airport, about 50 mins to the city
Did you not just get your own new car, Ruby
yes, but he drives it
he has an Audi (small one), but I don't drive it
Do you have keys to it?
Get in and go
actually, not. But we keep the Audi in the garage and the driveway is a steep uphill, not for me!
definately
the "Up" i in our little, street-level parking lot
we used to go to the dentist in Geneva, but now I've found a local one and she's just as good, more convenient and about 1/4 of the price!
is in*
I'll be truly grateful if things don't get any worse for the no5
I expect you think I am a pedantic quidnunc but you might benefit from reading this, Ruby: http://tinyurl.com/aqsgt5b
I would never think such a thing, BR, I know that you care and are being very helpful, always!
quidnunc might be my new favorite word, thanks BR!
and, anyway, I have a fondness for quidnuncs!
{{trif}}
and good morning dear friends
wow, today's grid is a tricky one for me to hit nbt on, as I often misjudge which word comes from which letter
Hello, Trif
hello my very dear Babble
Rabble
It really is not that bad, Trif. One you find all the words you are done
Once
thanks for clearing that up for me, BR! hahahah
Is not my logic impeccable?
nice clue, br, but I need the middle o
added fun - there is something up with my laptop charger, and once I find a position the laptop will charge in, I can't move - at ALL
Rudy, group of eight(s)
that's what I'm dealing with too Trif
carefull with that trif.my sons laptop was like that and it was actually a precursor to a total power brick failure.i found the thing one day burning hot and you could smell wires burning inside the power brick
good to know crossy! I think the battery is about worn out, and will need to be replaced soon.
ty, BR, slap me with a large fish
yes, most of the 3 to 6 cell battery packs have a average lifespan of 3 years
os + a continent: a***
hmmm - so mine is about up then. I always buy the big unwieldy ones that stick out an extra inch, but I don't care - they last for an age
that is a 6 or a 9 cell
nice clues, ty
O + purloin
and now it's nap time in front of the fire. very cold and humid here
honestly, my poor boo boo craptop is a *slight* step up from the flintstones typewriter with the bird and the rock in it, but I am attached to it, and there is not a penny to spare around here at the mo, so I am grateful to have even this one
Enjoy, Ruby.
my computer is from 2000 and everybody keeps saying "get a new one" but I don't feel like spending the $$ OR transferring files
Bye for now Ruby, enjoy your day {{hug}}
{{smores}}
naptime! my favorite!
enjoy ruby
wow ruby!! you have squeezed every bit out of that old girl
crossy, do you visit the sporcle site ever? I was thinking of you the other day when I was doing one of the quizzes there
When I am tired, I try to take a nap before I fall asleep
no,i do not know the site
I must go as well, get my kid to school and run some errands. Wish you all a fabulous day {{ group hug }} :)
definitely check it out! I think you will really like it!
I have a particular sense that you and the boyo will like the music ones
Be safe, smores
i shall def check it out trif
if you don't like it, I will cheerfully refund your time
Ty BR :) you as well
hugs right back, smores
Do you build your own computers, crossy?
i am on one right now that i have built but have not done another in last 2 years br
Amazon.com saved me a lot of time by having most of what I needed in one place.
morning all
i get my parts from tiger direct or newegg
Hello, dan
howdy dan
good morning dan2! wow, I haven't seen you in AGES!
you have what, seven kids now? lol
hiya Trif!
haha! sometimes the toddler feels like seven :-)
I wouldn't have since I have never been to ages.
wow, having these past two days off and babble time in the morning is really pointing out to me how much I miss you all - I have
GOT to get a new job situation
((trif))
you should come visit ages, BR. The health plan is comprehensive!
dan, dan, dan - WAIT until she turns 13....mine is such a horrible changeling of a troll lately I barely recognize that sweet cuddly girl atall
I have searched the world over .... can't find it
been searching for ages, have you?
haha! I have been warned. 2 can be a very hormonal age as well, but at 13 they have lots more ways to fight back :-)
You betcha
its just the unrelenting pissiness that wears me down. I cannot say or do or even breathe right without some cutting comment from the disney witch.
it will ease when she is married off at 21 or so trif...
secondo made me laugh the other day - tertiare was on a particularly hideous rant and secondo whispered "21
"2012-
its REAL)
sorry, typed that all wrong - fingers are getting tired
anyway, it made me laug.
laugh
i should just give up typing
lol trif..no more coffee for you
haven't had any - might be the problem
oh well def have one:)
i have tea ready.here have a cuppa
bless you crossy
french canadian style camp tea.strong enough that you have to fist with it for possesion of the spoon:)
I have all sorts of prep to do today for tomorrow, but I need you guys more....
fight
I read or heard something very interesting recently about the teenage brain - that it is an evolutionary advantage to have them be so crazy / excitable / susceptible at that age - more likely to be able to adapt to changing world they are 'inheriting'
fisting a spoon....ew
doubt that helps with the pissiness, though :-)
my son is 18 and a big walking bundle or hormones and teenage angst
I am getting a lot tougher on her - I am very, very easy going, and forgive a lot, but this disrespectful tone and flat out rudeness I will NOT abide.
Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) http://tinyurl.com/a32ed8b
she has been diagnosed with it, BR, and with an underlying anxiety disorder and a severe learning disability as well.
as has my son along with other fine medical acronyms
she also has the capacity to be extremely kind, is GREAT with little kids, very creative, and a good friend to many without a friend. Its mostly just me she hates
Did she have strep as a young child, trif
it's the booby prize of love - I am her 'safe" person, so she unloads all her frustrations of a world she can't quite understand on me. yay.
no, no pandas to worry about, thanks BR
I tutored a kid with PANDAS last year. That poor thing - it just wiped his slate clean, and he was wrecked. I have never seen such a bad case
Mental disorders are a curse and it takes more than a pill
please don't find this in bad taste, but it's become a bit of a dark joke amongst a lot of us - sort of a "please let it be pandas, please let it be pandas" thing, as pandas has a timeline and a cure. Adolescence? Not so much
i figue my son will come out of it around age 30 or so:(
You are right, crossy!
or when he move out and move back home with the pregnant gf,whichever comes first
I was not fun for my parents ... I got a suitcase when I graduated high school and I was expected to use it.
I hope she comes through relatively unscathed is all. her decision making powers are very poor, and she is very, very impulsive, so the teenage years provide particular challenges. yes, like the ones you mention, crossy. Except she would be the girl in the scenario
bill cosby did a GREAT graduation speech at my friend melinda's commencement - he said "your parents wanted me to tell you that today, many roads are open to you. NONE of them lead home
when our son flies away from the nest we are instantly packing our bags and going 3000 miles away to the far west coast, maybe vancouver isle and getting a nice 700 sq foot open concept loft on the ocean so nobody can move back in
i miss tertiare. she was so nice, once upon a time.
sounds like a PLAN!
would you not move south a bit?
we will fly out to see grandbabbies but that is it lol
nope.the states holds no real interest for me.a snowbird i am not
I am not saying the states, exactly - bermuda? tenerife? somewhere you will never have to shovel snow again
but if i go all the way west.i can avoid the snow
okay then
now,bermuda sounds nice;)
but not finacially practical
my brother did 5 years in costa rica and he could not wait to get back to north america
you make it sound like prison!
even paradice fails after enough time it seems
you miss things after a while and you never truly fit in with locals
I do wonder if I could, really, ever leave new england. i have lived other places, but they never felt permanent. never "e
Whether cyclical or man-induced, the climate is changing
"home"
i have made the switch from Texas to DC and it was a mighty bug switch
jmc! how lovely!!!!!
it only took about 10 years for me to have the same feeling flying into DC that I used to have flying into Houston
hi all
same feeling? Panic?
I think I need to live near family. Thats a big part of it
haha no a feeling of pride in my city
it did help that my sister lives here Trif
of course, who can predict where they will all end up?
home is where the heart is.you miss the comfortable feeling of knowing the weather cycles, the smell of the lake in the morning or the ocean at sunset.of knowing the towns, the villiages, the traditions.it gets into you so even costa rica with all its beauty is not home
God?
jmc my dad was the same way - a transplanted cheesehead
perfectly worded crossy!
hi dan . . .lots of transplants here
Morning, all. Where's our smores? Crossy, I've lived in several places in the US and now I'm thinking about moving somewhere it's cold most of the time because these days I look so much better with more clothes on!
when they had a fund raiser for Ann Richard's school with the play about her there were lots of Texas expats to say hello to
I have to say, jmc, with all respect and love, that I found it hard to find anyone with a sense of permanence in DC - I was there for about 4 years, I think.....because so many people live there for terms, it seems most people think of it as a way station
<-- born and raised. There's more of us than it might appear :-)
well i think you will find people who have been her more than 10 years think of it as home as i do
but admit, it can be a hard place to get accustomed to
I am glad to know that. I found a lot of virginians who felt quite "planted" but much less in the city
i remember thinking i would never get used to being underground for the metro but now i only think of thinking that
I LOVE the metro in DC! Trust me, compared to the fetid T in Boston, it's luxury
DC is a beautiful city. I've been there several times and loved it. You could spend the rest of your life just touring the Smithsonian.
well my sister and many of the texas expats who came up with LBJ and later with Clinton consider this home
my first wife said it was like living in a postcard :-) She eventually ended up back in Idaho
we are happy to import the food and music from texas and leave the rest behind
haha i have ridden the MTA many times in Boston and i love the Metro
My godson is finishing up PhD work there and living in Virginia and the main issue he has is that it's very expensive.
I think, of my three, it will be secondo who flies that farthest, and she will be the one I only see once or twice a year. She has wanderlust, BIG time
Barry Switzer: “Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple.â€
i so seldom get down to the mall i almost forget the postcard part except during cherry blossoms
Love that quote, BR.
well it is cheaper than NYC
the MALLS in DC/Maryland/Virginia were the other thing it took some getting used to! Potomac Mills, Tysons Corner, etc. HUGE places!
I'm not crazy about Phoenix anymore but I do have a good-sized one-bedroom apt. with a full-size washer and dryer, two pools in the complex, a nice courtyard to look out onto and my rent is only $515/month.
haha small compared to some things in the midwest and texas trif. . . NE is a very cramped place to me!
that is AMAZING to a Boston girl, mimi! I shudder to think what 515 a month would get you in boston
it wouldn't get you much here either
When I was still in college, studio apartments outside of Boston rented for upwards of $1300 a month
on the plus side, I can buy one bottle of sunscreen and it lasts me a whole summer
In college in the heart of winter walking back to my dorm from the gym with a full moon, calm and thirty below, the only sound was the crunching of your feet .. I loved it.
I hear that from many of my friends who live elsewhere. Funny, Trif, I almost married a guy who lived in Boston and would have moved there. I visited and found it utterly gorgeous. On the sunscreen issue, one bottle wouldn't even last a week here if you were diligent about use.
yes the crunch of snow and ice is a good sound on a quiet night. . . one i have learned to appreciate
Boston is one of my favorite cities. . .a good walking city with lots of great cheap italian restaurants and bodegos
i went to ohio state, and remember many a day when my eyelashes would freeze shut. don't miss that!
boston is great. I love seeing primo discover it for his own, now that he is studying there
I truly miss the changing seasons. I was raised just in the Cincinnati area. My old high school is next to Kings Island amusement park. I miss weather---we don't have weather here. We have dry, sunny, nice all the time October-May and then hot as hell from May through September. I miss thunderstorms.
the people of boston have a wicked sense of humor that resonates with me....I would miss that
the ohio thunderstorms are BIBLICAL
speaking of the west i see in the grid the mountains that were right outside my mil's chidhood home in jackson hole
For me, weather is a mindset .... much like everything else ... you take what you are given and do what you might
yes, but enable has no love for them
the changing seasons is one of the reasons i like living in dc
to a point, br, but such changeable weather as we have does make it hard to plan things
morning all!
good philosophy BR. . .
Enable is the ultimate contrarian
hi uu
sue!!! gentle sustaining hugs to you, sister!
I can't imagine living somewhere with no seasons
I live in ND
I lived in a rural area and actually saw a tornado that looked like it was nearly in my backyard. That was a little scary but mostly I just love storms. It's hard to adjust to 115 degrees for 3 months.
or fewer seasons, even
stats for the bottom row T please
BR, in new england we say "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute"
thank you trif!!
Hi, Sue! Is today the big day Frank comes home?
then don't move south mael. . .
looks like, mimi! Exciting!
nothing that hasn
jmc, I have a te 6 and 7 from there, and have not been able to find one other
nope! I think I'll stick with NE, and hope that we get some actual snow this year
has been said here
and I second jmc's request for the lower t...
good news indeed uu!
I have a te5 and a te6
nbt
an exam + vowel, and latin plural
thanks, all, monkeys invented a couple of words from that t, nbt
ty
My sister lives in boston and agrees with me
reading back..$515 a month mimi??!! what you described would be roughly double here + utilities
do you ever come visit her BR?
about what BR? I missed that
hi crossy!
suze!!
I lived there twice.
did you enjoy it BR?
no
wow...imagine if our paths had crossed, and we didn't know it!
I lived in Atlanta for 4 years in the early 70's and back then it was just starting to grow and was exciting. My best friend still lives there and now it's expensive and they have no good doctors left. The Georgia doctors moved to Florida due to the malpractice laws. You would not believe what she has to go through just to get someone who is competent at all. It's scary. I even called the state medical board and they agreed there is a crisis!
well that is why it is nice we live in a country that has such variety. . .room for us all
amen jmc!
I know it's a good rent, crossy, and that's one reason I'm still here. But Seattle is calling to me.........
that is what i loved about my job. . .traveling across the US and seeing all the different places . . . and so much the same even though they didn't know it
the Pacific northwest would be nice...
Olympia is cheaper than Seattle mimi
what do the 8s start with
that would certainly cut down on your sunscreen use, mimi!
since Frank's been elected to the county board we have to stay here for a few years, but in the long term I'm looking around for where to live
Have to agree, jmc. I've been in every state in the lower 48 except far New England (past Boston) and what a beautiful country with such diverse cultures.
Guess I'd get enough rain, right?
I have ef8
i have only missed Kansas for some reason
ty bzzn and hi
I had a friend who toured with a broadway show for a few years, and he said the best part was getting to see the country slowly. he made it to all 50 states before he was 50.
I'd love to go to Pike's Place Market regularly, take a ferry ride often and gaze out at the San Juan's. The other issue here in Phoenix is allergies....constant and unrelenting. The dust is so bad it's necessary to dust nearly every day. But there's no mold. Life is a tradeoff, right?
Hi and bye. I'm off to do the turkey day baking.
I know Fort Lewis and the appetite-enhancing pulp mills
I have only got FE8, Jmc.
salmon . . .and evergreen state college are what i think of
ty zooz
ef 7/40 and 8/55
got the fe7/8 ty zooz
te 7/28 and 8/40
the ef has me baffled
Yw..and thanks, BR..working on them.
ty BR
The eights are very alike ... they all have 8 letters
:-) so they do BR
lol
My favorite places are western Colorado, northern California, the Black Hills of South Dakota, Wyoming around Yellowstone and Santa Fe. Guess I'm more a western gal now. I adore mountains.
I've only been to colorado once, and loved it
I really loved Los Alamos when I lived there, mimi
okay I am off to run errands before my meeting with my new volunteer. bbl maybe
ef --- newt pronto
bye jmc!
what the HELL is that????? thanks BR
I've said this before....I told my kids when I die to cremate and scatter half my ashes over Pike's Peak in CO and the other half along the 17-mile drive in Carmel. That way, it they want to visit Mom they get a nice vacation.
Bye, jmc.
yEAH- WHAT!
very cute, mimi :-)
oh, mimi, I LOVE carmel!
and I agree with trif about the ef words - nice clue, BR!
primo wants to be buried in hemp shoes, leather pants, a polyester shirt, and a bronze vest, with his ipod at his side. He figures it will keep an archaeologist busy for a lifetime
I've just made up my own word and will go to the PB for saying it.....the definition would be a small cost----costet.
No Jetset? You would think by now...
Funny, Trif. Now that's thinking "outside the box"...ahem.
dear elizabeth's brain - the word sconce is not in the grid today - stop trying it!
How about a small funny person----jestet? SOMEONE STOP ME!!!
costet - when you tell your person something cost $3,when it was really $3.99
Good one, Trif!!
neither are scones.
I am going to be cremated ... if I had been buried I would have had a can of spam and the book how to be an optimist for dummies
Whats a piecost? About ten dollars
did you hear about the woman in russia who kept her husband's dead body around for 3 years and made her kids keep feeding it and the kids knew he was dead but kept it up to humor her and then they moved and the kids put the disintegrating pieces in bags and left them out in the bushes? ugh.
As far as I'm concerned the ONLY place to experience a funeral is New Orleans. They play a dirge going in and jazz coming away!!
GROSS hurshy!
this is one of those truth stranger than fiction kind of things.
those poor kids!
Whoa---hurshy. Many would just be glad to get rid of him---and quickly.
apparently they were evaluated when it was discovered and found to be mentally healthy! not the mom, of course, just the kids.
Have you heard the title of Willie Nelson's new book? It's called "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die." Funny and appropriate.
wait, didn't some famous person do something like that?
so how many if any non- prefix words have we got to deal with?
'Ice lady' killer buried husband, lover in Vienna cellar
did keith richards snort his dads ashes, or shoot him up or something? I can't remember
oh and congratulate me. after battling a migraine all night, i still managed to make it in to work. luckily they are gracing us with a half day today.
congrats, hurshy
here we once had a woman who kept her dead husband in the big freezer in the basement for a year as she wanted to keep spending his pension cheques
http://tinyurl.com/cmkt7zh
For several years toward the end of my marriage I used to lie awake and think of ways I could kill him so the body wouldn't be found. Awful, I know, but helped get out my frustrations. I'm actually totally nonviolent.
oh dear mimi. i'm sorry.
wouldn't she still get his pension as his surviving spouse?
Now that I can understand, crossy.
Hey, hurshy, it's been over now for 7 years. He and I are better at being divorced....we're kind of like brother and sister now.
its okay mimi, I totally get it
and does your brother know you once dreamed of murdering him? :)
Husband
(it was a little joke playing on them being like brother and sister now)
(dark humor)
Before we were married (at age 30) I told him exactly what I'd do to him if he ever hit me or cheated on me. After a couple of years I asked him why he didn't cheat and he said "I'm scared of ya, Cath." Bear in mind he is 6'2" and I'm all of 5"5. I'm just meaner!
have to be careful with divorces because a man can never, ever,EVER beat a woman when it comes to revenge
SPEAKING of domestic violence i read yesterday that hope solo, the soccer player, married a man the day after filing domestic violence charges against him.
I am going to share a short, happy link that has cheered me NO END this week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4IAPHX\ngfVw
so awful. women athletes ought to be VERY careful what kind of example they set.
Good morning!
car!!
car!!!! how are you my love? THANKS for your FB note...WORD
Hi Crossy!
Hi Trif!
Trif...need anything at the store this morning? What should Mom bring tomorrow?
I've been excellent about staying in control on that front. His girlfriend has moved here and they are now living together. Bear in mind this is the woman he was seeing BEFORE we separated. I've successfully avoided meeting her all these years for fear of what I might say or do. She was, btw, also married at the time---to a cop!! Must have been a stupid cop because apparently he couldn't even BUY a CLUE.
Hi, car!!
Hi Mimi!!!!!
mom can bring some whipped cream, as I forgot it last night. cool whip is fine, whatever.
and now it is time for crossy,s tidbit of the day!!
Wanna come to the gym today with us on a guest pass?
i feel like "leonoid" should be a word
half day
the i words besides charged particles?
i mean word, not words
In the 1950s, Harper Lee moved to New York to become an author. Her 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird won a Pulitzer Prize, but aside from a few nonfiction magazine articles she's published since, she’s refused to write anything else—including a foreword for her lone novel.
i gotta run up to boston to get my boy
Hi hurshy!
What time? We are going in a few minutes.
i get the girls at 11, the boy at 12.
Oh, and BTW, she is still using my bathroom.
OK...no more family talk.
is hers done?
Yup...all but the shower.
And towel racks and rails.
Crossy, when you start with the best, it's difficult to try anymore, right? I think I'd feel that way.
if so, make a sign, so big she can't hardly miss it that says "this bathroom is now finished"
Good morning, all!
morning judi
Hi, Judi!
Hi Judi!
Does anyone know where smores is these days? I miss her so!!!
sorry mind if i repost since chog is moving fast - may i have help with the i word besides charged particles?
she was here earlier, mimi, but had holiday things to do
That is the only one I have so far hurshy.
smores was on earlier mimi
yeah i see smores a lot, you must just be not catching the right time
i only have the one i word, hurshy
i also only have a single i word
Thanks, Trif. Just glad to know she's OK. Oh, oh....I'm getting very invested in this community. Starting to fret if I don't see someone for a couple of days!
i get it mimi, trust me! I used to be on here every day, and now I am lucky if I can babble once or twice a week at any length, and I miss my friends!
That's the way it is, Mimi! I am missing ScienceGeek right now.
was hoping brabble had the other i :)
Is there a way to share personal email addresses? Well, Trif, I'm getting very fond of you, too, so try to hand in there for us!
Babble crushes. Just another side affect of the addiction.
big hug mimi, my new friend!
I meant HANG in there---duh to me!
LOL judi! is there anyone who doesn't know about Torgone and I?
well EVERYONE loves torgone.
OK...mom is circling to go the gym. Must get going.
This is unlike any other community I've encountered. Absolutely wonderful people.
run forrest!
*jealous of Tor and Trif*
Bye, car and have a good one.
but he loves ME best, hurshy!
babble is unique mimi
oh yeah? let's you and me confront him on that one when we're all here at the same time :)
to all: Have a GREAT Thanksgiving!!!! Safe travels and don't overeat! Ha ha! {{hugs}] all around!!!!
tc car and hagd
I am very THANKFUL to have this Babble Land to come to every day and "see" my friends.
uh...hurshy, aren't you married?
I'll go wake him up for you ladies.
DIBS car!
yes, but virtual crushes are unrelated. if you are interested in him for real, i cede the point.
LOL! Battle to the death!
Hi and Happy pre-T'Day
Hey, I'm developing a bit of a crush on crossy!!!
Ha! Got the other i!!!!!
Hi, bichon!
Hello Bichon!
No death. You can have an octagon cage throw down, but don't break anything in the PB.
is 7/32
Just don't hurt the blender or the cabana boys!
Bye!
i have an idea...why don't we chuck me, hurshy AND torgone in a room, and see what happens? heh heh
A threesome----kinky.
ah thanks car
LOL, Trif! Naughty!
lol crossy is shy mimi
well, i AM french....
if i can find it that is
got it! yay!
That explains it, Trif. I'm Irish so all I'd do is win a drinking contest.
ty for is7 car
I was "irish by injection" for 20 years, does that count?
Sure. God created whiskey do the Irish wouldn't take over the world.
I am 100% Jewish, but wish I was part Irish
I just heard this hilarious song on the radio. It's called "Dumb Ways to Die". Apparently it's a PSA for train safety. I don't have a link to it, but google & listen. It's classic.
mr hate used to have a sign that said "An irishman is never drunk as long as he can hold on to a blade of grass and not fall off the earth" = made me laugh
Good one, Trif!!! Did I mention my first grandson was born on St. Patrick's Day last year? We're gonna have to watch that one!
My granddaughter was born on Halloween. Must watch her too
Name that proper noun: Cartoon about futuristic family.
jestsons
jestons
jetston
jetsons
jetsons!
Ding! Ding! Ding!
that's it. im done
beat ya by a nose trif:))
My second grandson was just born two days before Halloween and I asked them why they couldn't have waited until Halloween (since she was induced).
hey but i'm the only one who spelled it right on the first go :)
Spelling counts. I gotta give that one to Hurshy, Trif.
im scarlet!
lol,we did mess it up triff lol
Folks, I don't think I'll live long enough to get all the words in one of these. I'll just enjoy the ones I do get.
normally though i consider the dings to be distributed to all who get in the answer before the dings appear in chat.
Frankly, Scarlet... learn to spell.
trif and i are a tad dyslexic
morning all, help with the ef8 pls
and i'm not, so i have an unfair advantage.
our mids get ahead of our fingers
EF8??!?!
yikes
minds
ef8?
Hi, peri!! OK, I'm gone until later. Have had a VERY stressful couple of months and am planning to drink heavily this afternoon and evening. Check back tonight to see how weird I am when totally SMASHED.
according to early chat there is an ef7/8
maybe something to do with baby newts?
just guessing as i haven't found it
there is peri.
ty for ef8,there is only one without a double f so it is easy
easy IF you're ready to use morewords
and i did and i admit it:)
That's effin' crazy.
must be the weirdest combination of starting letters ever
lol
i will do but not at that stage of my run through the grid yet
and the word is so uncommon i am glad i did
if you have never heard it in conversation or never seen it printed on a page, morewords is allowable;))
ef7 and 8 are Shakespearean, but Babble Rabble cleverly clued them earlier as "newt pronto!"
haha, cross
I tend to agree with you
thank you vi!
{Passing through and must put you folks out of your misery. But I'm gone again now.]
that is a cute clue
and i think we would all agree about morewords, but clever clues are always appreciated.
That ef7/8 is a first for me. Wonky.
indeed judy
okay, turkey duty calls. have a great day all, and a very happy thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate it
babble is always full of surprises
Now use it in a sentence. BAH HA HA HA! NOT!
hmm, now having a little T trouble
Later, all. Good T day to you.
oh yes.happy turkey day to my southern friends:)) i am glad ours is long done though
That new had better leave the room ASAP
(Verily, good friends, I must begone ef8 and right speedily!)
props, vi!
*newt
Thanks, Vic!
ack! i tried fest again! why do i always do that
There's really 6 t's from the bottom t?
I tried fest, too, hurshy! It's a word in other games.
i know, but i've also known for years that it doesn't count here and yet...
Fest should be a word, just like spam
One last made up word before I got and another "et" word. Small test.....now I retire to the PB and bid you all adieu.
yes, there really are 6 t's from the bottom, i've found them
hello all
a hint for at least one hurshy
Hi and bye, sprite!
add a vowel to exam
then add another vowel for a 6
exam + not off, and pl
tyvm hurshy
those words, then double the vowel, gives you the last two
hi and bye, Mimi :)
woot, 18 left.
if that w were another L we could have constellate
Name that proper noun: One of the Santa's reindeer.
that's a word, too, you can't use it for NTPN
Blitzen
oh no, i'm wrong
donner
Ding! Ding! Ding!
although i think it's really donder.
maybe both are acceptable spellings.
I wonder
Is it? I always thought it was "donner". Now I feel all confused.
It's Donner
wiki says: Santa Claus' reindeer is a team of flying reindeer traditionally held to pull the sleigh of Santa Claus and help him deliver Christmas gifts. The commonly cited names of the reindeer are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder (or Donner), and Blitzen.
Wow. One of the reindeer has an alias. How supicious.
OK: name that proper noun actor who was Rocky's commanding offficer in Rambo...among many other roles
*suspicious* even.
both is correct. Donder and Donner are both words for Thunder in Dutch/German etc languages.
Never seen him referred to as Donder.
*wonders how jeff's NTPN will go over in a female dominated chatroom*
If Blitzen and Donder had a fawn, it would be "Blunder".
lol
i haven't the foggiest idea who's in those movies besides stallone.
btw, add a consonant to the most usual spelling and you have a valid word today
sorry Jeff, not the foggiest
ty sprite i was just in the process of looking for that word!
actually, Charlie Chaplin's grandaughter is here too
Crenna, Richard
richard crenna :)
I never knew Santa's reindeer were German. Maybe I should have been leaving out bratwurst instead of carrots all these years.
yw
I thought Oona was his wife.
too slow!
yay, mael saves the reputation of women everywhere!
(Charlie, not Santa).
maybe granddaughter named after grandmother
mael is a winner
only because my husband has watched these movies obsessively and is very fond of telling me "yeah, and that guy, with the bit part, was in that 80s movie that you haven't seen"
oona is both his wife and grandaughter who is an actress today
wow mael, so you both listened and remembered!
still, props mael
Ah ha! Interesting factoid, Jeff.
cool, Jeff.
mael gets the prize
and judy :)
This has been fun, but I really must do some real work now. Later, peeps!
judi
bye Jeff
bye judi!
sorry. Bye Judi, I mean
work is overrated :)
lol
so7?
((sprite))
crossy :) *hugs*
done!
grz hursh
well done!
any clue requests before i depart?
that so7 would be nice, if you please
it's usually a word that you see with a DIS prefix. To clash or make discordant
your turn on wwf sprite:))
thanks lideola!
even though you are kicking my arse;)
hey, you said you were new to it. It takes a little while to get the hang of it. You rock!
whoops, didn't pay enough attention after i offered to clue
ttfn then :)
bye hurshy :)
bye hursh
hello
howdy mlffan
howdy cross
hello

aw mael, that is such a sweet icon
os5/10
can you clue it please sprite?
ty sprite

i got os 5

4th column S stats please?
reminds me of those anciet jewish burial boxes
yes indeed :)
ancient
hi again all!

hi ruby
back in a sec..crossy,s rules of life #227- never turn down a shower for 2...poink

Hey Sue!
lol... have fun, crossy and Elegant
hi Jan!
good luck, sue!
Whats the good news for today?
and hi ruby!
oh wow sue! That would be so great! *keeps fingers crossed*
maybe home, jan!
Right on
5th column T stats please?
so send good hungry thoughts Frank's way :-)
I have ef7/40 and 8/55, mlfan, weird words
ruby: te8 and fe8 similar plurals, for the te start with an exam and then use the end of midday hour.
Wll do
<-- sending hungry thoughts to Frank; I know how hard that is!
ty uusue looking....
*sends very hungry thoughts and vibes to Frank*
and you can totally ignore what I said as it has nothing to do with the 5th column t (although it is in the center of the word)
was it the fifth column that was a danger in the McCarthy era (or are you all to young to know?)
ok those are REALLY weird words.
nbs
you can take the words clued for that t, though, and make the double vowel a single vowel and get two more words
i got the ef 7/8 through morewords
is it a ts word?
ef7/8: means 'shortly thereafter'
no it starts with exam
therapy here, bbl
i guessed and got it thanks:)
no idea bout the ef (long) words
bye sue, good luck
testons
ooppps
okay i have nbt and nbs i am out of here poof
ty MLF!
kept trying te%/6 mountains
don't forget to double the vowel there
{{sprite}} don't think I've given you a hug lately!!!
:) Thanks ruby *hugs right back*
still haven't reached half and am running out of time
it is not the easiest of grids
co4let is a Fr word and a Fr phantom
Just checking back in to say Happy T'Day to all. This year I am grateful for having found all of you.
sure is, ruby. We know it too in Dutch
{{and a Thanksgiving hug to MimiCat}} I think we are all thankful for this group
*hugs Mimi* What a wonderful thing to say.
and a very happy Thanksgiving Day to you too, Mimi
ec5/6 combo is french too, but this one is valid
I still do Thanksgiving, but stopped doing it for our Fr friends because 1) it was too expensive'an American turkey cost $125 in Switz, 2) it was too much work and 3) they never "got" it
BTW, if toons is accepted, why isn't fest?!! Ok---back to the PB for me. Bye, all.
turkeys they give away in the US if you spend $100
lol Mimi. Yeah, Enable logic, or the lack thereof. Bye!
bye mimi
How can you not "get" a day to share a meal with friends and loved ones and be grateful for your blessings?
I have an idea, ruby! I'll come visit next year, we celebrate the idea and we cook a moderate meal.
they seem to have never heard of the holiday and I'd get all weepy saying the blessing. Too much for me, but it was certainly a lovely feast when I did it
I'm a bit weepy when it comes to prayers and blessings. Sentimental moi!
I think it is one of the most beautiful celebrations. We don't do it here in the Netherlands. We are stuck with the Christian days but those are not celebrated like this.
Hello, sprite.
nothing wrong with being able to be touched by gratefulness and emotions.
hello BabbleRabble, am happy to see you!
I have to say that I don't really "get" it either
I think you have to grow up with it, for the most part
I do not get it cause I do not cook so well
for nbt, could I get a clue for the corner t?
I still make my mother's dishes and she's been gone about 20 years
harpjane: exam plus vowel.
exam + vowel, latin plural
I think I miss her the most at Thanksgiving
thanks nbt
I'm sorry, ruby
lol BabbleRabble... one has to be really hungry to be grateful for an ill-cooked meal, I guess
I miss my mom most when I think about her cooking, actually, there's a visceral love that you feel through food
too true, mael
but I still miss my mother very often....a little bit crazy, I fear
but both of you have had a mother you really miss... and that is a blessing, I think
visceral. hm. not a word I would use while stuffing a turkey!
yvw harp
ok, we are back
lol!
wb sue
it is, in a way. My mom was the best mom ever, and I lost her way too soon. I was only 23.
and I use all the viscera!
ah, I was 22 when my mom died, mael, it is hard
not that there's ever enough time with a loved one :)
I was lucky. She lived to be about 85 and I was past 50
*rethinks celebrating Thanksgiving with ruby*
wb sue
yeah, sue, I think the biggest sadness I carry is that she never met the man I married. She would have loved to see me happy.
gardener is cutting the grass; it's surprising how it has grown so long in this nasty cold weather and the geraniums are at their absolute peak!
I think that is offal
I agree :)
husband actually ate offal at lunch in a resto; he just didn't know what he was eating
lol, ruby
there we go:)) crossy is back and much cleaner;)
argh yuck
Oh wow, it's weepy time at Thanksgiving and we haven't even cracked open the wine yet. : )
my mom always wanted grandchildren - my younger sister had kids first but my mom never met any of them
don't tell anyone, but my favorite food in the whole world is rabbit kidneys
<--- is all in favor of a clean crossy
I won't ask if you had a good time, crossy! :) Wb, and wow you smell good.
it was a perfect lunch for a cold and nasty day -- onion soup with "gesiers" (untranslatable) on toast and hot wine
*Crosses mael off the "to invite for dinner" list*
I don't have any children yet, and I am not religious, but the way I make myself feel better is that they're spending time with my mother before they get to spend time with me :)
mmm..rabbits...
*keeps Scrabbler's ears closed*
i am brave and only say things like that when scrabby is not here
<-- loves offal but only small kidneys and not tripe!
aw I like that thought, mael
and doesn't eat rabbit (would eat the kidneys though)
tripe... never could understand how anyone could eat tripe, unless one is a dog
my dogs would sniff and walk away (maybe lol)
There is a reason offal sounds like awful.
I don't eat organ meat, just muscle meat. Sorry.
yeah, the texture of tripe is no good, very bad
the only good tripe I've ever had was deep-fried in northern Italy and in Philadelphia hot pot
<-- loves liver
I think there is a obvious connection between offal and 'afval', which is dutch for garbage. That which you throw away.
raofl, sprite
I think it's very regional, growing up in northern italy we ate organ meat all the time (and weird meat, like beef tongue)
<-- loves Dutch
it's hard to find tongue here, but I love it.
and it's hard to cook
crossy does not eat innards
beef tongue is being eaten here as well. Also not my favorite thing... I always wonder who is tasting who.
do you like eels, sprite?
I get tongue-tied at the thought
only smoked, ruby :)
can't get them here, but used to love them when travelling or in sushi restos
my poor husband, we're going home to Italy for christmas this year. He's going to be faced with a lot of delicious food that grosses him out
lol BabbleRabble. How about soup from the tail of an oxen?
i do not know about eels, but rattler is very tasty when cut into chunk, battered and deep fried
poor hubby!
too bad for him, mael, Italian food is wonderful, offal or not! Where in Italy?
I could eat rattler. I have heard it tastes a bit like chicken.
I tend to only tell him what it is if he asks. He knows it's better for his peace of mind if he doesn't. :)
crossy, you could cut up my shoe and, if deep-fried, it would be delish
that tail would be tale for me best untold
I'm from the northern part of Lake Garda, close-ish to Austria.
lol ruby
Ruffino comes from there
for me too, BabbleRabble. Here we say: "On4 you looked beneath the tail of an oxen, you don't want the soup anymore".
one of the few good sayings of my father, ruby: "Treated like that, you can even make poo taste good."
oh wow mael, beautiful there, I think!
half! what a good saying, but I'm sure it sounds better in Dutch
"Zo kun je stront lekker maken" is it in Dutch. More concise, grin.
sounds appetizing to me
lol
maken lekker stront is sure to please the drinkers
hahah, BR
hahahaha!
I think it's time for a maken lekker....
see you later, kids
lekker eten maken! = making tasty food. Have a good one, ruby.
and tell your husband hi from me, please
*poof*
{{sprite}}
it is very beautiful!
bye sprite :)
*hugs back*
<-- loves Italy, especially the food, but only knows the country a little -- small trips
and small tripes hahah
lol
bye mael, have a good one!
fireflies for me. Bye all, have a good day and a peaceful evening. Thanks for the great company. *hugs*
bye sprite!
good day, everyone. clue for the so7?
hi lbd! I have no idea but will look.
hi UU~
so + female name shortened. Mrs Reagan comes to mind.
ah, thanks. Usually I see that word with an re on the front.
tadone! finito!!
yay lbd!
not getting female name. for so7
mixi6-to gamble is to take a ch****--change the ch so it sounds like female name
ty scribekd
sure-I had trouble too-monkeys finnaly got it
like mother-in-law's name too.
all I could think of was Pat.
right party-wrong wife!
yeah
Hmm, famous ones by that name. I would say Reagan is the most famous. Followed by Drew, Sinatra and Kerrigan.
is7?
is7...is + vowel + measurement of a prescription
ty molly.
fireworks.
Well done Mixi. You may now go bake another pumpkin pie. : )
hello again
114 and good nightr
Hard to say hi to someone when they only stick around for a minute. : P
I thought I was alone!
hi ruby, I just popped back in myself
are you cooking or are you going to relatives, molly?
and hi to molly too!
I'm cooking. There was a fleeting chance that we were to go out to this nice country inn, but we didn't get reservations in time.
aaah, that would have been lovely.
aaah, that would have been lovely.
how many people?
Just five, but I make enough for the kids to take leftovers home.
Thanksgiving has the best leftovers
One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the leftovers.
snap, bzzn
I'm looking forward to Friday, which is "do absolutely nothing" day. You could not pay me to go out shopping that day.
can you imagine lining up at Walmart at 4AM??? I read about that
We used to go out every Thanksgiving. The only thing disappointing about it was not having leftovers the next day.
The few times I have gone to someone's house for Thanksgiving, I have fixed a turkey breast and stuffing so there would be at least something for sandwiches the next day.
ruby, some of the stores here are opening Thursday evening at 8 or 9
in between marriages, I was often invited to people's houses for Thanksgiving but since I've been with Burt, I've cooked for more than 20 yrs
you mean people are going shopping AFTER dinner?
that's crazy
I have never shopped on Black Friday nor will I. Absolutely ridiculous!
that seems to be what the big stores want, ruby!
Great way to ruin a family holiday.
I will probably have to do grocery shopping as we have not been home in almost 2 weeks, am not looking forward to it
And I feel sorry for those retail workers that have to work on Thanksgiving.
it's funny explaining the holiday here. Big dinners here are with family and close friends
but they don't have a comparable holiday
impossible to get turkey that long before christmas, too, ruby, at least it was when I lived there
maybe the workers get dibs on the bargains
I don't understand people who cook turkey for Thanksgiving and then turkey for Christmas. Once a year is enough turkey for me.
I tried to do that the first couple of years, sue, but they cost $75 , were scrawny and barely weighed 8 lbs. Then we started buying them in Geneva, but they were American turkeys, flown in, and cost more than $100!
my mother used to make ham for Christmas
right, totallly not worth it, ruby
capon works well, but I didn't think of it in time, so we'll do with a big fat chicken
I do roast beef for Christmas. It's the one time of year I splurge on beef tenderloin.
husband is happy about it
well, that's good, ruby. And so much turkey gets wasted here around Thanksgiving, a smaller bird makes sense
when I was a young bride, 100 yrs ago or so, I used to make Beef Wellington with tenderloin. That's the sort of thing young faculty wives do, I think
my grandmother did that once, ruby. Then there was another Christmas where we did a roast goose with chestnut stuffing. That was fun.
Turkey does not go to waste in my house. I freeze anything leftover in "meal size" containers and it gets used later on.
yes, I always did that too, molly, I even used the carcass to make stock.
I also make stock with the carcass.
Snap Sue.
I've only eaten goose a couple of times, but have never cooked it
I don't care for goose. Very fatty.
tell me about your stuffings, ladies
But nationally almost 300 million pounds of turkey gets thrown away after Thanksgiving (maybe mostly from restaurants or something?)
that is a shocking stat
Very basic New England stuffing here. Seasoned bread crumbs, onion, celery, chicken stock and some of the giblet juice.
I've been learning various ways of cooking duck, also very fatty, and it is delish
I've had cornbread stuffing with sausage which is good, but not a favorite with my clan.
I do something similar but add chestnuts, pecans AND the giblets
I haven't cooked a turkey in decades, so can't weigh in with any authority on stuffing
My ex made giblet gravy with hard boiled eggs in it.
Molloy, do you stuff the bird with your stuffing?
Yes, I stuff the turkey and cook some stuffing on the side in a pan.
(I always did and nobody ever got sick)
You only get sick from stuffing that is not removed from the turkey right after it comes out of the oven.
my first husband's wife, a true New Englander, makes stuffing with sausage and(I think) oysters.....
I've left it in the bird and eaten it for a couple of days -- never got sick
I just took a pumpkin cheesecake pie out of the oven. The smell is so "Thanksgiving".
yum
that sounds awesome, molly! *loves cheesecake*
I've got a chocolate chip cheese cake in the oven now. Pumpkin Pie already out. Later will do the coconut creme pie.
It is a layer of cheesecake on the bottom and a layer of pumpkin on top. I make it every year.
*heads to Bea's, then to Molly's*

don't we have a peanut butter box anymore?
Yes, but by and large, people just ignore it and spout words in the chat log with wild abandon.
Hello
hello
hi smores .... seems quiet in here tonight!
hello, is there anybody in there?
lol..mo...you popped up right as I hit enter
Hi :)
I am!!!
lol.
was just having a little Pink Floyd moment :)
have you finished or do you want any clues?
just getting started...lol
got 50 this morning and had to go...just got back on
are you done?
OH! It is an interesting grid, and yes I just finished when I LOOKED AND SAW HOW QUIET IT WAS.
hi again all!
hi sue, hi all
OOOH sorry for shouting.
I got the 8's out of the way
Hi uu
hi sue and peri.
lol...mo...thought you were just trying to make up for it being so quiet
hi peri
tee heee!!!
"I have become comfortably numb" lol
*could use some numbness*
sue ... hope Frank is still improving and you are ok too.
:)
we are slogging along, mo. Looks like we may be spending one more night in the hospital.
At this point it is mostly precautionary, but I have no problem taking precautions.
oh dear ... thought Frank was coming home.
well, he's still having a little trouble eating, and the doctor just removed his drain and poked around in his incisions, so he needs to rest a little.
That's good then Sue, sometimes I think they let people out to early. Better to be safe.
I agree with smores.
sue ... are you getting much sleep?
Sorry, computer crashed. We will stay at least until after dinner and will then re-evaluate.
I am sleeping ok, there is a chair in the room that unfolds into a single bed and is actually quite comfortable.
hope everything goes well for you both ... lots of hugs and love to you both.
Just caught up with things uusue...keeping fingers crossed. I do hope they have discussed drink supplements like Ensure for Frank?
oh good at least you dont have to sit in a chair to sleep.
And hello all!
hello jilly.
Hiya Jilly
Yes, he is already using Ensure Enliven.
Glad to hear you are getting some rest Sue
No problems with it?
Enlive, that is. Give me a minute, the computer is cranky.
Good, one point is to have that inbetween meals; if done around mealtime it can decrease appetite.
There, that's better.
;-)
Jill, right now I am just trying to get him to eat ANYTHING. So far today it's been about 3 oz of yogurt, maybe 3 oz of that Ensure drink, and 2-3 bites of omelet.
And the problem isn't really appetite; it's more emotional.
Does is bother him to eat or just no appetite?
You are a very good nurse uusue! Hang in there. Any negative outcomes to indrasing his diet?
He has LOTS of gas pain that gets worse when he eats.
:(
Which has me a little concerned; I want to be sure that all the snipped and re-attached parts are functioning as they should.
Not sure if it would help, but they do have simethecone drops that decrease gas without decreasing the motility of the intestines.
They are giving him Protonix (which is primarily an acid reducer); I can ask about a gas reducer as well. A couple of days ago they really didn't want to go there, but that was then and this is now.
It's a choice of potentially masking problems..
right, and since he already has had one serious complication...
Will make for a very balance..
<----nbt,nbs
anyway in a little while I will see if they've called in the meds they are going to discharge him with, as the pharmacy is closed tomorrow
yay jilly!
Have they talked about what to do with the central line?
They will remove it before we go home (probably right before, to be sure he doesn't need it)
they just used it an hour or two ago to give him more antibiotics
If any concerns about near future, there can be an option of teaching you to flush it daily and sending him home with it.
I think if they are that concerned they won't send him home.
must be off now ... love to you and Frank and everyone out there and good luck.
Have a great day mo..
ty jilly and you too.
Bye mo :) have a great evening
bye mo!
and thanks!
Has he gained any strength/endurance?
good evening kiddos!
Hello evanonut!
Hi evan :)
how's things this fiiiiine evening?
Looking forward to a 4 day weekend!
ah, i am afraid i must work friday, so i can't join you on that
LOL, well, if there is an emergency I might get called for Friday...we'll see
do like me and ignore the phone when you're not working, does wonders for your life
he is getting a little stronger, Jill
but is still quite weak. needs to eat.
who is sick?
That is a great sign uusue. I am sure this is extremely stressful for both of you. And Frank is very lucky to have such a great person standing by his side!
my fiance, evan, LOOOOOONG story in my profile
((((jill))) thank you :-)
Well, the wedding vows will be easy...you've already had "in sickness" and "bad times".
a loooooong story i am personal familiar with uusue, best of luck to you. that's a draining experience
unfortunately when the doctor came to remove the drain and poke around in the incision, Frank had fallen a bit behind on his pain meds, so was close to unmedicated while he was doing that
and you are right, jilly!
lol...noid should sooo be a word
as in i came into the chog and 'noid everyone
Well, that was not a great thing....and Docs tend to go ahead with the poking and prodding irregardless :-(
so should annoid, like I am really annoid that it is so hard for me to find words in this grid
Naw evan, it's fine, not 'noid at all..you're concern would be appreciated by uusue..
lol...what was that commercial a long time ago with the little noid character?
Indeed.
LOL, I was thinking this one was pretty doable...just remember the pl
i keep seeing 'food' in the puzzle...maybe cause i dearly wish to eat but can't bring myself to do it
yeah, I'm just kind of brain dead at the moment.
why not, evan?
Dominos pizza avoid the noid
very good molly, I couldn't recall it at all!!
recent root canal, jaw feels all bruised. uusue, may i kindly and without any intent to insult knowing that i've known you all of three minutes, strongly suggest that you get your you time?
YAY Molly, thank you - I could picture the little character " Don't be a noid"
you certainly may, evan :-)
:( so sorry evan - will you be able to eat tomorrow?
ah good! something i frequently look back on and realize i should have done
I'm behind Evan all the way on that. Sue, you have been more than devoted, but don't take it to the extreme. You will get sick yourself.
That is a very good point evan
I actually have a lot of friends who have been coming in so I can get out a bit, but with the holiday they've kind of dried up
i'm thinking if i get the softer bits of turkey i'll be good, be back, time to make up the next batch of fruit pies
you can always just eat pumpkin pie, evan :-)
poor evan - baking pies and can't eat
Gotta go for a bit - just past the 1/2 - will be back later to try and finish
{{Sue and Frank}}
*puts self in PB for using do4/6 earlier*
bye for now everyone :)
see you l8r smores!
bye smores!
a-d vanquished and more than 1/2 way...bbl
Uusue...thinking of you and Frank! Praying extra and ((hugs))
*poof*
bye jilly! Thanks!
oh good,smores is here
hi TO!
hi sue, are you both home?
oh heck, smore is gone...i wanted to ask how to make the pie without a blender.
not yet, TO, maybe later tonight but more likely tomorrow
owly!!!
TO, I'm sure if you mix it very well, and your margarine is nice and soft, you can whisk it.
All quiet on the babble front...sheesh..I leave and things go dead! ;-D
I'm here. Taking a break from the cooking/cleaning frenzy.
We have potlucked with my best friend now for about 20 years...Thanksgiving day at her house, then leftover night at mine on Friday...so no cleaning frenzy till Friday! Now cooking willl commence after a few more moments of babbling
Doing green bean casserole, appetizer and pie tonight. Tomorrow the turkey and yam dish.
Sounds like fun. Thanksgiving with friends is probably a lot less stressful than with family.
As working moms who used to not have Friday off, we got tired of busting our butts one day cooking. So we split things up. Now with her daughters here even more cooks. Plus we open it to people we find whom have no where to go for Thanksgiving.
But sadly, we have lost 3 of our friends this year...
Hi to anyone out there!
good evening all
Hello lizlin!
Hello wvteach!
Glad to know some people are still around!
hi, folks
((welki)) long time!
hey, jilly - thanks for the weather! brrrrr! and snow :)
sympathy from a warm aus!
Well, here too.. ;)
heck, we're even having avalanche warnings - could be an interesting winter
summer in oz - jealous, liz
Rained like heck last night, snow level just above the valley floor though and none on the ground.
That doesn't sound too nice! Summer here's lovely - not often too hot or too humid where we are but winter's usually better. Months of blue skies!
Tonight will be different
hope everyone stays safe and warm, jilly
summers here in alberta are usually nice, too, liz. landlocked,so low humidity generally and only a couple of weeks of hot weather (+25c is pretty hot for this area)
anyone need a clue or two before i head off to "pretend to make something creative for dinner"time?
Well, us natives know how to do that! Now others...there's the worry.
Fine for clues at the moment thanks. Just started listing at 70 to go!
if only folks would prepare for the weather and drive to the conditions
Thanks welki, but doing pretty well on this grid..only 31 left. I need to start cooking for tomorrow here soon though...*silently wishing she had a double oven"
I know it gets cold in Ab - my cousin lives in Edmonton
edmonton is a 3 hour drive (north) from calgary (where i am)
Your Thanksgiving gathering sounds very nice Jilly. It's always good to have several people making things.
If I don't see you - Happy Thanksgiving!
use the barbecue :)
How about your plans molly..who's coming?
We're doing a Rockies trip (and Alaska) next year
well, before your trip, if you think you'll be in this neck of the woods, let me know, liz, and we can arrange a meet up!
:)
My kids will be here. My three sons and my girlie-in-law. I cook enough for the kids to take leftovers home.
i have a couple of online friends from geelong nsw who made the trip over and we got to spend a lot of time together - was a blast!
hi molly
Well, I do wish my boys could be home for Thanksgiving...it's been 3 years since any were home then. And only one for Christmas. But last year did have both..
How fun welki!
<-- misses american thanksgiving
Have fun
Too long of a trip for them?
jilly, i invited the whole chat room over - we had friends from australia, germany and all over the u.s.
Lizlin...traveling where in the rockies? *secretly hopes thru Montana*
Yes Molly, one in Virginia and one in Massachusetts
liz, pick jilly up on the way to edmonton :)
WOW!! welki, what a treat!
Not sure yet - will probably do an organised tour as it's such a long way from home and we want to make the best out of it. Probably mainly BC and AB as it will start in Vancouver
LOL..don't I wish!! *mental note to get passport completed*
both you and dawg have been saying that for years - do it already!
Need to get an Aussie passport sorted first. Waiting for citizenship ceremony!
Maybe we'll have to do another babble meet-up in Vancouver this time!??
where'd you move from, liz?
London
Took early retirement from teaching primary
or maybe i should drive down to great falls and the two of you (and harpjane!) can meet for an overnight!
Wow, so very jealous on early retirement. We had had plans for that, but hubby's forced medical retirement ended that
Hubby forced me!!!!!!!!! Not too hard though!
That would work welki...maybe get lbdawg to meet in Missoula (that's where harp and I met uusue)
I also really know how lucky I am!
*imagines lizlin kicking and screaming*
Stop twisting my arm!!!! Ow! Ow! lol!!!!
ewww - that's an 8 hour drive for me (to missoula) - 5 to great falls
Actually, Griffles (nickname for Gr Falls) might work for dawg as well. Wouldn't that be fun!!
sure would! anyway, off to the kitchen to plan supper - later, all. nice chat :)
Have a good evening welki
bye welki!! Stay warm!!
Bye welki HAve a good day!!!
WEll, totterling off to figure out dinner then start madly cooking...
*poof*
Enjoy your evening Jilly
By jill I might as well eat some left overs too, later
evening. been gone for quite some time. stuck on te5/12

3 more to go
yvw pbr
Happy thanks giving!!!!:)
early whatever
Hello and to you, also a Happy Thanksgiving. Pumpkin pie is baking now.
Wow that sounds real good We are going to my parents and get homemaid stuffing
We are going to cook tomorrow and probably won't need to do much cooking for several days afterwards, I think.
That sounds about right ecspecially are family
Happy Thanksgiving all, from your lurker friend!
Hello champfit!
Hi!
Well, dinner beckons...bbl...anyone need clues before I leave?
I'm going to muddle through, but thank you, and hope you have a lovely holiday!
Thank you champ..you too!!
and *poof*
ty champ. I'm just going very slowly on this grid. Nothing seems to pop out.
I'm with ya Stidgmere. Slow goings.
Oh well. some days are slower than others.
Muddle, that is the other thing Babble players do. Wander, toddle and muddle.
True! I feel like I muddle often.
Hi Molly. did you mention dither?
Dithering!!!!
See. It does fit at times.
I'm making fresh ice cubes. We so rarely use them but at the holidays I liketo have good fresh cubes.
There ya go! I'm almost finished with precooking. One more casserole to make, and some dusting.
I need to dust but we also need to defur the floor. Murphy, bless his heart, sheds.
My dogs do too, but for the moment, it's very light. Will run the vacuum, and dust. Although my mom tells me not to bother, because it'll all be a mess after everyone is here.
It hit 80 today... wonder if that'll kick the shedding in again?
I've got roll dough working right now. Like Jilly, I wish I had a double oven. It would be far more useful than an oven and a microwave that I barely use.
My mother had a single oven and of course no microwave for years and yet she put the most delicious food on the table everyday. I have a double oven and really like the convenience. I'm afraid I'm spoiled rotten.
Can I admit to that I BOUGHT the mashed potatoes from Costco, and the gravy, and made everything else? They're real mashed potatoes, and to me, saving the time peeling was worth it. As I get older, I think smarter. Mostly.
I have a friend who always buys her pumpkin pies from Costco, she says her pies are not as good. So that works for her. I look at the variety of foods in the frozen food section and my goodness, such a selection of tasty meals.
*Absolves Champ*
Thank you Molly, there is enough forgiveness to go around, isn't there.
Thanks Molly. Stidgmere...not frozen...fresh, real, refrigerated potatoes. It's a cheat, but hey! I insist on having a life.
The year I had the most people for Thanksgiving, a friend said she would bring the mashed potatoes. I almost keeled over when I took a bite of mine at dinner and realized they were instant.
hi again all!
Instant? No way!!!
Really. When all you have to fix for Thanksgiving is mashed potatoes, pick up a peeler and do it the old fashioned way.
I don't get doing instant. It's not that big of a deal to make them for real. I use a ricer, which is awesome! Boil them, cram 'em through, and it catches the skins.
ah, that's a good trick, champ! I just bought a big bag of potatoes so I can make mashed for Frank when we get home, but he can't have the skins
I'm not even sure it's cheaper.
Ricer. Works like a charm!
*puts ricer on the shopping list*
How's he doing today uusue?
I would give you my ricer but the shipping would outcost the implement.
I rather expect I can find one here, but thanks, gmere!
he's almost ready to go home but we are giving it one more night
I love my potato ricer.
I'm with ya. Why rush it? One of the best thanksgivings we ever had was in the hospital with my Dad. Everyone was there, our family brought sides and wine, and the hospital did the bird and the set up. it was great, and he was in good form that day. Amazing.
well, I want to make sure he can eat and have things progress as they are supposed to
between the celiac, the Crohn's, the cancers, and the surgeries he's a bit of a mess
I'm sure! Poor guy. You'll be such a light in his day!
Champ, that sounds like an episode of "Brothers & Sisters".
I was being nice!!! It happens once in a blue moon.
Was I Sally Field? she's so adorable!
uusue, after reading your profile, I have a greater respect for what your husband has been through and the strength you have given him throughout this ordeal. May you continue doing the things you do to give him the boost he needs. Our hearts and prayers go out to both of you.
Hello snags
hello maryanne
Hard puzzle isn`t it?? only thirty words AHHHHH!!!!!!
I have a whopping 75 wheeeeeeeeeeeee
((((snags)))) thank you!!
((((( hugs )))))........... I can't imagine what your feelings are right now uusue.
Champ, of course you were Sally Field.
I'm not sure what they are either - it's been quite a roller coaster
Lucky snags Feels like i have been pooped on by the babble gods
Blessings....
*leaves out babble gods poopy bags *
lol maryanne
later alligator time for King of the hill
hi, ruru :-)
awwwww ruru
bye, maryanne!
later ...........
Enough for now. Time to fix a little clam chowder. Good night to all.
night, gmere!
Thank God for bread machines. After everything I have baked and stirred and prepped, the thoughts of kneading dough right now are not pleasant.
LOL, a little more tired than I thought...came back to finish grid...ahhhh, but I already had...*sigh*-gotta love old age!
<---Thinks Jilly has been nipping the cooking wine.
Not yet molly...that's for tomorrow!!
Hi again uusue! Can Frank tolerate all milk products?
I actually had some wine today while I was making my gravy base. And it's a good thing I did too. Because I needed something to toast with. My roux was a thing of beauty. All my Cajun friends would have been so proud.
Go Molly!
*lifts toast in honor of Molly's roux*
yes, he has no problem with dairy, jill
Milkshakes? You can throw in either protein powder or some powdered milk to boost protein amounts
Or even better, Brewers Yeast...B vitamins and protein
I already got some powdered milk and plan to put it in a lot of things
Oh sounds delicious. A yeast milkshake. : P
the nutritionist was very big on smoothies; we'll see
Yeast. We tried that once in babbly. Yeasty, actually. GROSS.
Might be hard with his intolerances...
Why we'll see? Smoothies are a great way to get liquid nutrition.
Babble. DOH!
he should be able to eat solid food as long as he doesn't gulp it down; he just polished off a hamburger.
YAY!!! *crosses fingers*
We'll see because he doesn't like smoothies so I will have to sell him on the idea (and create things that are tasty)
Oh well if he can eat a hamburger then he is well on his way back to regular food. Good.
Next up...bacon! ;) Nod to crossy.
right - if this goes well I will be happy, and will believe he is really ready to go home.
Well, I think focusing on things he likes might be best for now...you can boost a lot of things with the powdered milk. May be more helpful than trying to change his tastes right now
he would love bacon (as long as it is gluten and nitrate free)
I agree, jilly!
Just thought of crossy perusing the latest Wireless catalog. Bacon throw and pillow, bacon scarf and tshirts....crossy heaven!
Ha! Missed his tidbit today. Always enjoy those!
If you get a gluten-free thickener, any cream soups are also good...but again, IF he likes them!
WEll, back to cooking...bbl
*poof*
bye, jilly1
*jilly!
{{{uusue}}}}
ok, time for a postprandial walk. bbl.
bye!
<---Thinks Sue has been playing Babble too long.
*ties fingers*
Oh, but it's such a great word!
as opposed to my postbrandial walk...
well, my postbeerial walk just sounds tacky
So walk while you're drinking the beer already.
Oh...so much sense!
sounds like she has experience at it
Well, you know how us low minded, small idea people are.
ha
think I need to go for a postdoggial walk
I can think of a word that starts with post and ends with al and has nothing to do with dogs or prandis.
:D
I'm going to have a postworkial beer ..
Cheers, Tor.
ok, nice walk, we are back :-)
Hello, Sue and Frank
had a lovely talk with the evening charge nurse, whom we hadn't even met directly - she told us that all the nurses really love Frank (and me too, apparently) and are really pulling for him to get well. She asked us to stop back in after we get home (which shouldn't be hard as the cancer center is next to the hospital, sigh). But it was very sweet of her to say, and gave Frank some much needed support.
hi, BR!
That was nice of her, Sue. I'm sure it meant a lot to you both.
It did indeed, Molly.
can anybody clue the d7 or the s7?
one of the reindeer + vowel
s7 when used with prefix DIS means clashing or discordant
cant figure out how to add a vowel to the end of the reindeer. i think i need a dumber clue
sorry! Consonant
aha tx
hey all, read the good news about Frank, so happy he is making solid progress, sue!
hi

Hello, popped into help anyone pursueing finishing grid before flip
evening, jilly :) i just started... probably not gonna get it finished.
LOL...did you see you were used as a clue at 10:55?
i didn't...
Hello all
hah! i didn't have that word yet :)
thanks, jilly
and wht, if you're still about :)
hi smores
Yay...I had to chuckle on that one..but wht gave a great clue!
Hi smores!
Well, french silk pie, appetizers, and green bean casserole done. Tomorrow the turkey..
Phone...brb
Hi again all - last 30 to do.
I'm back..
doesn't like nano!!!!!
I know...frustrating at times..
hi liz
clue for the 2nd co5/6 plz
Hi jes
clue for na 5 /12 pls
sorry guys, i am of no use to you.
sounds like a woman's name
co 5 /6 like the coffee place or a place to live? Not sure which is the 2nd
na5/12 is a woman's name, change sometimes vowel at end
thanks liz I have that one - need the next one
there's a 5/6/6 co that has to do with rib bones...
the 6 that sounds like a boy's name with a different final vowel?
no idea where that is in the list though.
that is the last 5/6 combo smores, the reast are 6/7
that's where I was with the coffee place!
I stand corrected
Not getting the girl's name
a girlish boy might be called an na5-boy
Think of the book series with female girl detective ****y Drew
great clue jess - I was looking in the other direction!~
ty jilly
How are you doing smores with the co?
ok I have the 1st 3 co words then missing a 5 and a 6
blocks of flats - often gated estate
sorry - apartments
The last 5/6 combos build off the 4/5 "we always complain about the **** of things $$$
duh - thank you :)
yw
na 5/12
last one
is there an no 5 /6 combo?
lol...na5/12
yes, no5/10 and 6/18...how people are executed with a rope
don't have it either - missing lots of n's
ty - should've seen those!
I needed the list today to keep things together...
I've used the list a lot but still not finding it easy today
stats on t in lower right corner for nbt?
te 4 /4
still can't find na 5/12 :(
last word
