hello all -- just saw the Downton Abbey season finale :-(
she reminds me of an old friend... she was a good housekeeper. married 4 times and every time she divorced,,,, she KEPT the house
hi jilli. I have such a hard time getting into period pieces like that
That's a pity, bugs.
are you talking about gapeach or a Downton Abbey character, sammys
neither... she was a woman i knew quite well.. till she got rich-lol
ahhh. I had a hard time imagining gapeach as a housekeeper
hi all - just back from Downton ... what did you think about them killing Matthew off, Jill?
she outgrew me with her second husband ..
terrible, nan -- I hope there's nobody here who hasn't seen it
what did you think, nan?
that was thirty years ago and i was boring because i stayed with walter and she was thru with al and going on to number three
still, I bet you were happier in the long run
haven't gotten into downton yet... but i do like doc martin
yup walter will be 87 wednesday
must admit I was surprised -- thought there was still plenty of room for more conflict with his modernization schemes.
I love doc Martin. I watched Lewis while they watched Downton. Have you seen it?
I love doc martin too -- but Downton is special.
i like lerwis too
lewis
especially Hathaway
yup
Lewis is good too -- It will be good to have that now that Downton is over.
Hi Artictundra
greg
I tried 2 episode of Downton but it demonstrated all the arrogance of class systems that I so dislike, it drove me nuts
I tried that too salmo -- and good to see you -- it's been ages!

we had no electricity this AM and it just came on with a boom!
tiny grid and freezing house. No joke! lol
It usually goes off with a boom.
and they closed the street with no warning, so husband was stuck at the bottom and had to leave the car and groceries and walk home
Sounds like one of those days for you all.
poor guy was so upset that he couldn't figure out an alternate way to drive home
sounds like an awful day. Hope it gets better!
at least I have the computer again
(((ruby))) it can only get better
{{annie}} ya think?
rube, absolutely..did you light a fire?
of course, but it's very cold anyway
and I had to go and retrieve the car, probably good for me to have to take a long walk
well, a long walk is good excercise. was it downhill, I hope.
it's the longest walk I've had in about a year, both up and downhill. I tend to spend my afternoons lying down....lazy nel
ruby, How is Burt?
he's worse and worse, very uncertain about everything
I've asked his daughter to come in June -- had previously invited her in Jul or Aug, but I think soomer is better
Hard for you. I was just going to ask about his daughter coming to help.
it is very sad to watch such a rapid decline
ruby, yes it is. There is no comparison but I watched the same thing with a friend of mine and it was very sad.

Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel, And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card, Which is blank, is something that he carries on his back, Which I am forbidden to see. one can always hope....
M&P are going for a dental cleaning tomorrow
our banker's name is benkhabecheche, can you believe it?
What kind of a name is that?
do m&p eat hard cookies? I give our dogs purina biscuits (many) and their teeth are pristine
Egyptian or Morrocan or something; he was assigned to us because he speaks English (badly)
I should try that. I give them a number of things including "Bullies" [which are dried bull's male organs]
but nobody around here speaks English (except us) and husband can't hear....
Purina biscuits seem to do the trick. All of our chows have had lovely teeth (and breath), even as they have aged
Maybe Chows have better teeth than Bichons.
our dogs get pigs' ears, but that doesn't clean their teeth (probably similar to male organs in texture, tho I haven't tried)
certainly bigger teeth
I should really take them for a walk. BBS
{sorry, ru}
*woof*
is chai a proper noun? hmm.
Good Afternoon, Everyone. It's a cloudy, lazy Monday here; how's everything with you?
eg4/6. 5/18

Hello Babbleonia
<-- pissed off. I know what happened on DA last night and Im still on season 1. Ugh. Stupid FB.
hi wht.
Thx, molly. Surgery complications. Hoping to be better sooner rather than later. Waiting on a neuro consult right now.
Hi Wht. You must be exhausted. How many hours did you spend on a bus?
Cos, you have to literally avoid the internet to not see spoilers. And I blame the airing of Downton three months ahead in the UK for most of us being spoiled about that show.
Let's see. The trip down took 7.5 hours. Then I spent most of the day on my feet outside on a windy day that just barely got above freezing (fortunately it was mostly sunny). Then had dinner with jmc and spent about 6.5 hours on the bus back.
The bus driver must have been in a hurry to get back. Didn't stop for a break the whole way (or I slept through it). I slept most of the way on the bus back. Got home at 5:00 am. Then slept until 11:00. But it is definately a low energy day for me.
Wow, that is usually an 8 hour trip. You must have taken the Speedy Gonzales rout.
WOW that was quicker than you expected. . .
hi all
meet up picture on icon
stats for the bottom H please
*looks for the bell jar*
It was a lot quicker than I expected. We got off the bus at the Alewife subway station. We got down to the station, where the pay station for the parking garage was, just as the security guard came in and started unlocking the doors.
well i am glad it was open just after you got there
It worked out. As it was, I was home before the first train would have left the station.
That is a great picture. Is it just me, or do you two look like brother and sister?
haha i think it is the matching jowls
he 5/18

Some new words for me in this one.
almost always new words for me
my big accomplishment today was untieing my windsock. . . that poor thing has gotten a beating this year
which foot does your windsock go on?
I wish I had a windsock, yesterday. If the wind had it's socks on, maybe it would have been warmer.
it goes on the foot of my deck. . . . . it is pink and purple and spring green
Whiteouts here ... the wind gusts make being outside brutal.
the long strands had tied themselves (well i guess the wind had tied them) to the wire cable railing. . .
whiteouts are scary. . . when i drove to asheville the last time it was theday after whiteouts in southern Virginia. . . the highway was littered with abandoned cars and snowmen
clue for the ca7,44, please.
feline+oddly spelled sneeze
That is a very strange word. It looks like it should be a character from Pokemon.
Phantom: apteryx
Great phantom, tor.
haha picahu ca7 attack!
I have to go and do something productive today. BBL to finish up.
hello, folks
and ... bye, folks!
hi and bye welki. . .

this is a tough one Jerry. Do you know how to use Lickety's List?
not really. ill check it out
At the bottom of the page in green letters you will find Lickety's Babble Clues. If you open it in another tab, it will show you the first two letters of all available words which helps immensely! There are more tips at the top right of the page under Help
have fun. This is an addicting game and a great bunch of people
bugaw hi...can you te5/12 please..last word?
Hello all...few minutes to work on grid

Hello
hi stid!
hi BR!
hey BR! :-D so glad to see you!
hey sue! :-)
Hello a)ll
hi smores!
hey smores
grrr... keyboard being weird again
Hi everyone!!
hi luwanda!
stid, it sounds like you are going great guns in the classroom!
and Luwanda! how nice to see you!
Hi Luwanda
back to babbling after a long time. happy to return!
good to see you back, luwanda!
I am working pretty hard, that's for sure! Would have been up to speed faster I think if I had been more familiar with the students OR the curriculum OR started at the beginning of the year. Did a few things I wish I could undo and didn't do a few things in retrospect I should have. But the kids are learning and surviving and I am very slowly pulling it all together.
hope you are well, Luwanda
it's tough to start in the middle, stid. I remember my mother doing that once (she substituted for a while before she went back to work full time), although with much younger children.
yes, they are dealing with so much uncertainty -- if the teacher had left for good at least they would have known from the beginning that I meant business. Right now... some of them are still very resistant, but most of them are finally at least doing what they need to.
and we don't know when the regular teacher will return. Which makes it difficult for all of us.
Remember this one, stid: http://tinyurl.com/b9bn6o7
LOVE THAT song! LOVE that singer! :-D
stid, I judy retired and have been offered several jobs to return and take leaves, some unexpected. I had to turn them down because of family commitments. I felt bad for the kids
although I do think Phil Harris was most excellent when he sang it for The Jungle Book.
It's hard on the kids to have a mid-year adjustment, for sure. I am glad you were able to retire, but I know the school misses you!
I didnot expect all the offers. I do miss teaching but not the stress.
it's a tough little grid today!
Going to take Lucky for a walk with Tom... I am doing SO MUCH better these days that we manage to take him out at least a couple times a week! Feels so good to move...
excellent, stid!
Phil? http://tinyurl.com/aqz6z85
yes, the teaching is wonderful. The stress of grading (I stepped in mid-term and will have to figure out how to grade these kids without all the data...) and of managing middle schoolers has been pretty extreme. But mostly it's good days, now. And I look forward to going in every day, so I think that's a good sign!
that is indeed most excellent, stid.
Yep. Bare Necessities. *sigh* He was such a fun jazz man!
To me, middle school is the most difficult age (although I'd have trouble with anyone younger than adult)
I'll be back in about half an hour or so. *choclits for all!* see you-all again soon. *poof*
Yum, choclits!
can someone help with the ex 5 word my monkeying is not working
short for someone who lives outside the country, speed
just got it thanks
Sue, the Russians want more protection from meteors and asteroids .... any ideas?
live in caves?
seriously, it is almost impossible to protect against meteors and asteroids; the bigger they are the more impossible it is.
Some interesting solutions being discussed ... some of them have the potential to be used against Earth in the wrong hands/
18 left, be back in a bit
there has been some talk of deflecting them with lasers or atom bombs, but the potential liabilities seem hard to deal with (it misses you this time but what about the next time around?)
I suppose if you could pulverize them into small enough pieces they would burn up in the atmosphere, but the pieces would have to be pretty small
Some believe the extinction of dinosaurs resulted from the impact of an object from space
A gold rush is speculated
Yes, that is pretty widely accepted now, I think, although apparently they were already in decline and the asteroid was just the last straw
Thanks to that asteroid the mammals (us) got their chance.
etch
sorry
And, we have done a good job of causing more extinctions and the possibility of our own.
smoove, would you describe "natural" history for me? Are there those who study unnatural history?

Hello there MollyL and thanks a lot! I hope you can see the flag and not John Travolta. It's his birthday today so I had his picture first before I changed it.Thought it was more important to acknowledge President's Day today.

Hi all, back for my last 6. How is everyone this evening.
hello king wht
i'm fine.. you?
Hello wht! How are you doing today? Welcome to the chog
Hi min and ruru. I am doing well. I am feeling more rested after my trip to DC.
I hear it's really cold on the East Coast right now
It is, but I have stayed in most of the day. It hasn't been too cold inside. :^)
firewords
great wht.. well done
Take a break on story writing Min. You deserve it.
Hey, ru...wht..am in Arlington right now

*gets up and closes the blinds*
... flasher....
Too late, we know about the Super Hero jammies.
I hear it's cold in Florida, according to my mother
She complains, and I point out that it can't be all that cold, compared to jnot where she spends the majority of the year
everyone in florida complains about something
This is true + my mother complains about something, no matter where she is
I have only spent one night in Florida. It was on a business trip. It was 2 degrees when I left Boston. On the TV in Florida the weather person was saying that the temperatures would be in the 50's but with the wind chill it would feel like 40.
I don't think I had ever heard wind chill figures before that were above freezing.
Dang, looks like I missed a very interesting conversation...
LOL wht
under 50 in florida is a wind chill factor
I don't know how they put up with the humidity.. I couldn't take it.
Wind chills for temperatures in the 50's? That's hilarious.
They don't put up with the humidity...they all live indoors
I lived on the pacific ocean...the dampness increases the cold...
I"ve been to Miami once.. I will never go back
I think weather people everywhere want to make their weather as bad as possible.
I agree Wht.
where was that jilly?
Shell Beach ruru, after I graduated HS in San Luis Obispo
oh.. nice down there
Was one fun year! Lived right on the cove. Too much fun for a 19 year old...
I would love to live near the Ocean again
That is the only thing I miss...the ocean. My favorite memory was walking the beach in the fog, so few people around and so peaceful. And ocean sunsets cannot be beat!
'evening, everyone
hey welki
No such thing as too much fun, unless you're a Puritan. : D
Ocean sunsets are harder to find on the east coast.
chai is TO a word...always irritates me
bayside, wht
Wht, when we've been on the east coast, I still loved them. The colors are still there.
<---is definitly NOT a puritan ;)
my sister and her crew would applaud the sunset every night - a thank you for a beautiful day, beautiful sight (cape cod, bayside)
My current office is on the third floor of our building and we are on a bit of a hill. It faces west and so in the winter when the sun sets early, we are treated to seeing some really wonderful sunsets.
time to go...bye all
I like that welki!
bye, ru
see ya ruru!
bye ruru
listing at 24...slowed down considerably
she's been going there for years - several families get together and have a blast. even though they've all spread apart geographically, they reunite each year
wht, here, we're treated to beautiful sunsets almost every day, as jilly is, i'm sure. the mountains make a beautfiful backdrop
Sounds wonderful Welki
grass is always greener - i prefer the sea
I wish welki, I now live in Montana...and the most colorful sunsets are when the smoke is thick from forest fires...not much to applaud
you can't see the rockies?
Yes, right in my backyard, but the sunsets do not have the colors that ocean ones do...
i wonder if the few hundred miles between us makes a difference in our sunsets
It might...certainly does with the Northern Lights
a rarity in calgary - drive 1.5 hours north and occasional - another hour north and you're in for a show :)
dianedecoder probably sees them all the time during the cold months
how far are you from great falls?
Of course if you drive far enough north you won't see any sunset, at least in the summer.
LOL...that is true
true enough, wht!! LOL
Welki, I am 6 hours south east of Great Falls
i'm about 5.5 hrs from great falls
maybe more like 5 hours - friends of mine drive down there all the time as if it's around the corner
LOL, we should do a babble meet up there then!
would be great - maybe in glacier park? (i'd say waterton, but i know someone who's procrastinating about getting a canadian passport ;)
brb
Time for bed. Good night all.
g'night wht
niters wht...sweet sleeps!
<----!FW!
wtg, jilly!!
<---wonders who might be procrastinating on a passport *ducks*
hehehe
wow - have you ever seen a program called, 'monday mornings?"
No, what's it about?
a medical program - i've taped a few, the one i'm watching is the premier. it opens with clinical review - pretty dramatic
but - very obvious it's from the states. it references a disciplinary action because an er dr missed a dx and four months later, the person passed away from an aggressive cancer. here, you'd still be waiting for tests
probably not something you'd want to watch during your free time - you see enough of this stuff every day
Who produces it?
HA! would you believe dr sanjay gupta?
LOL..figures...he's a GI doc
Is it CBS?
bravo
Ahh...will have to look for it sometime
and i'm off for the night - enough electronics - g'night jilly
Niters welki!
Jill, here in the States, Monday Mornings is on TNT.
sweet dreams welki and hello all
