Beaches here are a mess at the moment. We've had so much rain and so many high tides since the end of January. Loads of erosion.

Yes, there's a special beach we go to when we collect shells, though sometimes find them elsewhere too. Didn't realise until this year how seasonal shells are!

after storms in Miami, there were sometimes wonderful shells which I collected for years
Have to be careful collecting shells - some of the inhabitants are deadly! We pick them up very carefully and only take empty ones!

Not orthodox at all though there is a Chabad community there too but they're not over the top. I think that there's a lot of farmland around there and the Israelis from kibbutzim found it similar in climate.
It was weird the first time we went to that restaurant - heard so much Ivrit being spoken - felt like being in Israel.

We've counted around 35 different species that visit our garden or we've seen above our house! I don't think the local sea eagles will come to our feeder!
Sulphur crested cockatoos are the largest birds we actually feed.
it is great fun seeing new birds here, but the best one was the (large ) hawk who came into the house

I was very calm and I think he knew that
I watched some red-tail hawks hatch last spring via web cam. It was amazing.
We had a pied cormorant pretty much come knocking at our front door, asking to be taken to the vet. We did this - vet thought he'd probably been hit by a passing car or van but he was only bruised and later released.
how big was he?
we used to see cormorants in the Everglades, hanging out in the trees, drying their wings
Wing span of about a metre - probably about 40 cm tall (18 inches perhaps)

Big beak! Hubby threw a towel over him, to calm him and we put him in a plastic storage box to take him to the vet. He was obviously injured and very upset.

The funniest thing here is watching the ravens feed their "adopted" cuckoo youngster! It's a channel billed cuckoo - it cries like a baby and is much bigger than its parents. It'll only be here for another week or two before it migrates to Papua New Guinea!

Dixie was 13. We nearly lost him when he was 10, so got Lucy as an advance replacement. She gave him a new lease of life! When dixie left we got Candy for company for Lucy as she just took to her bed. Lucy only lived to age 10. Rosie was adopted as company for Candy. Candy has been gone for 2 years but Rosie is doing fine on her own.

I have a ship's wheel. It was given to my Dad on his retirement from the US Coast Guard. Around the circle are brass plaques engraved with all of his accomplishments from enlistment to retirement. It is an awesome thing to have on my living room wall.

the lottery is the mother of the now popular books called the hunger games...............those are also horrible especially for kids. my 5th grade granddaughter read all three and loved them and i was horrified.

My parents thought it was an in5/10 id 4/5 to become a teacher.They went on a tir5/12 about how teachers don't make lots of money.My Mother said her mother was a teacher & she got pa4/6 very little money. My Mom suggested that I become a doctor or a lawyer.I thought that was an in 6/18 suggestion. I said to my Mom,"pa4/6on me,but you can't tell me which career to choose". I love teaching. I wouldn't tr 5/12 it for any other job.I ad5/12 some of my students. Da4/5! Hubby is ne4/4by making sni4/5 remarks because he wants computer so my story has en5/14. I usually do not give a di4/5 if hubby wants computer, but I don't feel like finishing anyway so I'll surre4/5er this laptop to him. Now that I've ai 5/14 with a story I'm going to da 4/5 on into the bedroom and watch the Jack Nicholson film "The De 6/24ed".
