How many words today please
102 gran
Thanks
good morning
{{ruby}} my dear, so lovely to see you
{{rose}} me too!
how are you feeling?
not much...lol....up to my 3rd bourbon. he's out, i don't know where. have worked a 9 hour day. not even thinking of going into mother mac's rooms. at this point in time, i really couldn't face it.
hmm, bourbon, the only alcohol not in stock but before you visit, trust me, I'll stock up
am just guessing here....methinks you are feeling about the same as i am.
*giggle* and so you should....then again i might win a jackpot....send you the money to come over here. wouldn't it be nice?
except it's only 9:20! Yesterday, my poor husband was brutalized by our dentist. I stayed in the room to translaste/interpret, but he never said a word that she was hurting him. What a macho jerk
I feel terrible about it, but i couldn't tell that he was in pain. There's no excuse and I am furious!
awww, poor ruby!! well if he won't express it verbally, or give you an indication by hand gestures how are you supposed to know?
our awful tax problem has re-surfaced and, once I know the outcome, if I'll be reduced to begging in the street, I'll send YOU a ticket!
if I am NOT*
I can always give English lessons
ruby, i've just finished 3 days in a row, 9 hour shifts. i think i have found a solution to the pain from the fibromyalgia, after 6 hours on my feet.
the bourbon
?
LOLOL.....GOT IT ONE, DEAR
9 hour shifts must be brutal. When I worked, it weas long hours, but not on my feet.
no, really, i take a very small dose of valium before i start work, then the same dose after 6 hours. the muscle spasms are contolled then, and the pain is much less.
on my butt and on the telephone, except when I was travelling
that's interesting that valium works. It's certainly better than painkillers
hah, you're in the grid, an5/14!
well, valium does work on muscle spasms, we know that. i only take 2mgs. and a friend of mine at work agrees, such a low dose isn't going to effect my judgement.
awww, ruby....that is so sweet of you...to say that.
and the patients probably think "Here comes that very mellow nurse!"
and himself is home.....no word of where he has been as yet....and i really don't care. *giggle*
hands husband a bourbon and goes to sleep
close, dear one, close. lol
whoot, got the ne7 and ne8
hint? or even stats would help if it's too early for others (others? are there any?)
hi guys
hello sandy!!!!
ne8, fancy bed attire for the seductress
Ruby, have you got the puppy yet, we have had people staying and i have been very busy going to wineries etc/.
hey sandy
ne7, drop a vowel off ne8
it's been so long, rose, that word has gone from my vocabulary
hi gran i was interested in what you had to say about your fibromyalgia as my mother has something similar or maybe the same
Sandy, I go on and on about my new up, much to everybody's boredom and disgust. But she is adorable, smart and very affectionate (maybe a little bit slutty) and getting along with Rufie moderately well
wow how gorgeous, she looks like a show dog in the photo
okay, ruby, begin with ne + ***de, smooth transition across surface + oh, ***. instead of saying 'god'
she is totally housebroken, eats like a champ, doesn't take any sh** from Rufie and fits in very well with the househod. If only it would warm up enough for me to take her out in the street
I got them, ty, rose
yay, ruby.what a gal!!!!
Rufie has come into his own since Ruby's death. He's a real stand-up guy and is truly magnificent now, both in his behavior and in his looks. He could be a champion
got them also ty
how old is she ruby?
3 months
she's tiny but weighs much more than you'd expect. Our vet is coming tonight to look her over
so she is ok to take out - vaccinated etc
is rufie sterilized
she spends a lot of time in the garden and there are no other dogs around.
she looks soo cute
No, we won't sterilize him but will spay her when she's old enough. I don't think I could deal with 10 pups a year!
sandy, could you perhaps try your mum with magnesiun malate? and also the teeny dose of valium when that isn't enough? email me(addy in profile) and then we can chat.
he has the proudest and largest balls I've ever seen1!
omg...ruby...lolol
(pardon my language, but I could only thing of that and the Fr word lol)
think*
gran i will do that! Ruby perhaps Bert is jealous
poor Burt! At least he koves the new pup
it is lovely seeing you two, but I had better get dressed.
what before ;you go out on a walk?
what before ;you go out on a walk?
oops , see you later rub
no, before I go out to lunch, Walk, lazy me? hahah
ahhh, ruby...give the world an eyeful hun. don't get dressed...lol...unless of course it's too cold outside.
it is cold and nasty and raining AGAIN!
they'd run away screaming!
okay...put the wellies on...and the go out. *giggle*
if it was me they couldn't run, they would be laughing too much
wellies and a ski mask, that woud work!
*woof*
it's raining here today and we love it!!!
you wouldn't if it had been raining for two months straight
gran you and I are about the same age, i was born in 1950
but the daffs and hiacinths have opened, so it's a good start
you are a couple of kids; I'll be 70 this month. Where did the time go?
you look very young rubs
I have to go and do something for my son (immediately) so he says bbl
and back....was just telling DH about my woes at work.
night, ruby and sandy. see you tomorrow.
Hi. Anybody still here?
I'm here, just gave up trying to get to sleep, will babble for a bit and try again
Hi flosey. It's 9.30 am here.
ah, 1:30 a.m. here and I should be sleeping
I couldn't get to sleep last night. Then when I finally nodded off, the dawn chorus woke me up again!
is the dawn chorus birds? frogs? ??
Birds! When I was small, it sounded as if every bird in the world was joining into a huge, swelling song. Sadly, now it's only a few blackbirds and robins, but they are VERY loud and right outside the window!
lovely
Do you have many birds where you are? Where in Canada do you live?
am on south west corner BC
gooooooooooood morning fellow babblers xxx could someone let me know how many words today please? xxx
shall island between mainland and Vancouver Island
My goddaughter is in Vancounver.
Hi worzel. 102 words today
hy hydra and ty xxx
Oops. I meant Vancouver.
lovely place to live, we have 2 daughters in Van - actually, 1 is in N.Van
hi Worzel
hiya flosey xxx
where are you Worzel?
I really must get over there, flosey. At present, I only see them when they visit the UK. They have two small children. My great-godchildren, if there is such a thing!
UK xxx
Whereabouts, worzel?
Liverpool - NorthWest
Aha! That's where I come from! Allerton. But live near Heathrow now. I shall be up in Liverpool next Thurs for a school reunion.
gawd I hope I'm never invited to a school reunion - probably find most of them are gone! I'm getting old now ya know lol xxx
So am I. 68 three weeks ago!
68 ain't old - got decades left yet! xxx
I hope!
so what made you leave Liverpool?
Love!!!! I met a guy from down south, followed him to London, it was 1967, I had a hippy summer, played my guitar and sang in clubs and never went home again! Split up with the guy and got a job in publishing, and that was my career after that.
My first job was a management trainee in Lewis's, though.
Sounds lovely. That's what happened to me. I met my fiancee on line 2 years ago and moved up here from Devon
How fabulous! Isn't Liverpool a friendly place? I really miss it. My daughter lives in Devon, near Colyton.
you LEFT devon for LIVERPOOL?
Yes Liverpool is really friendly. I've lived all over - Devon, London - and nowhere is as friendly as this place
Lmao Hurshy - it doesn't matter to me where I live - I'd have travelled to outer Mongolia to be with my Di
friendly is good though. *things i need to know if i ever get to actually move to the UK*
You can feel isolated in Devon, hurshy. I was going to move to Cornwall, but changed my mind. I didn't want to be in a village where everyone knows everyone's business and feuds break out.
There are some rough parts in Liverpool - as there are in all places - but overall the people are so nice and will always stop and talk to you
I'm really enjoying this conversation, but I have to go now, worse luck. Hope to catch you again soon. And you're welcome to email me.
omg hydra u just reminded me of a Cornish pub I once went in - me and my ex walked in and EVERYBODY stopped talking and looked at us - lol - "Nobody Comes And Nobody Goes" lmao
well i had a lovely time when i visited cornwall
aww see u later hydra have a good day xxx
Yes Cornwall would have been my ideal place to live - it's just the really small villages that are a bit backward, so to speak. But beautiful scenery and coastlines
but there are larger towns
we were in... falmouth i think
oh yea - Penzance, Falmouth, Truro etc St Ives, all lovely places
lower N help?
lang
oo-er sorry!!!
right folks I must go off and make meself sum coffee and toast. Keep up the good work - nasty little grid!! Nice talking to you all see you laters xxx
bye worzel

The word of the day is pe5/20! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!

good morning my dear friends...
quite an amusing start here --- on the way to school, tertiare and I pass a funeral home parking lot. A HUGE ugly as all hell wild turkey was standing right on top of the hearse roof, just looking around. It was quite the visual! And then Tertiare chimes in "I summon my death to me!" in her best "turkey" voice....i ROLLED

so hey - can I ask your collective opinions on something? seriously....
of course
we have a new student at my tutoring center. she is LOVELY - about 12, beautifully mannered, very, very sweet. The mother? UNREAL. We have all sorts of goofy little things we use to keep students on task and to reward them for working hard - they can earn points for small prizes, we give out "magical learning moment" cards when they do something extra wonderful, etc. We are forbidden to use ANY of them with this girl, at mother's insistence. "NO external motivators of any kind! All drive must come from within!" Also, we are FORBIDDEN, again at mom's request, from EVER telling this child she did anything "perfectly", as this will give her the impression that "she has done so well there is no room for her to improve" seriously - what do you all think?
oh, gee, what did i walk in on? Hi Trif - haven't chatted here for a while, but this is a doozy
I think the mother is nuts and knows nothing about motivation.
a few ideas - number one - mom is a super helicopter/hoverer/tiger mom, she needs to take a chill pill
hi jbv....just running something by the chog, for honest opinion
2. you have to be careful or she will decide to pull the child out, which would be a loss - this child needs to be around normal people
have you read TIGER MOM? that's what she sounds like. she's a nutcase! I'd smile and tell the girl good job, a wink and a smile to show you appreciate her good work.
funny you said Tiger mom, jbv - that was my first impression as well!
I am wondering if this girl can even hear us say she did well. If you never hear it, will you believe it?
3. I agree with lbd - some very positive non-verbal communication to show positive "external" motivation
are you allowed to say "that is correct"
Seriously, the mother is ill, has her own serious problems that need treatment, and the child is obviously the victim. Did the mother bring her to the center? That shows SOME hope--except she won't let you use your expertize.
I am going to say that, yes, jbv. I have been thinking of alternative language to use, to let her know she has done very well
yes, the mom did bring her in, round.
that's why I said be careful, because if you stress your policies (we've done this a million times and we know it works) she'll say, then this is not the center for her and take her out
i just don't get it. Im a mom too....I see her point, that you dont want to tell a kid EVERY thing she does is perfect and wonderful and you are the best and the prettiest lalalala all the time, because then they get no sense of when improvements need to be made, but geeze louise!
exactly jbv
be aware of other signs of abuse, Trif. neglect in emotional well being.
its a sticky situation, to be sure.
here's an idea - can you give yourself stickers? as a teacher, I mean - "I always feel good when my students are learning, so when I see you do X,Y or Z, I give myself a sticker" (Mom never sees it)
good idea, jbv!
Emotional abuse is the hardest to prove. No physical signs. Sad.
ha! that is a wicked good idea, jbv! again, fine line....If I earn them, but she never does, it could be hurtful to the child
and I don't want to be seen as ignoring the moms wishes, or she will yank the kid, and Ill catch hell
i think jbv means that the mother never sees them. you share with the girl.
kinda like the girl is giving you the kudos for her progress.
hmmmmm. yes, I see
but the child has probably already absorbed the mother's thinking that stickers in general are BAD!!!!
this is so sad
To be honest, I feel like telling this girl every day that she is completely awesome. SOMEONE needs to!
Is this same thing going in her school? or does mother home school her?
going on
Your center must deal with psychologists and psychiatrists--you may be one yourself--I don't know you or your center. They must have ideas, advice-- But she is involving her kid in her own mental problems and setting the kid up for mental illness.
I agree, jbv, exactly. I wonder if she can accept praise at all at this point. if I do tell her she did a great job, I wonder if she has a voice in her head telling her "no, it could have been better, I didn't do this, or that....
*tiptoes into the silent chog*
excellent point, roundbarn. clearly there are issues
Hello everyone
lots of possible scenarios for this kid. i do wonder what she is like with other children,
even if she has that voice, she has to start hearing it from somewhere if she is ever going to hear it
hi jmc and lynxxx
can you have her say aloud "i did a good job" when she did? that is internal
Perhaps, the mother is doing a good job. The child was described as smart, well mannered and sweet. I'm very sure all of the over complimented other children in the center are not described in the same way. The NYT had a good article on how over complimented children are today. They are told 'good job' when they go the bathroom.
would she be in the center though if she didn't need some support bubba?
yes, bubba, I can see that point, and I do agree, to an extent. surely there is a middle ground, between over saying it, and never saying it?
I am absolutely going to tell her she did a good job. Every chance I get.
Don't know what type of center it is, I thought it was a school setting.
not to blow smoke at her, but so she can see she IS doing a good job, working hard, etc. I believe in praising a child for working ard.
maybe it's just in the phrasing, Trif - does the mother have a problem with objective statements like, "you accomplished that task in only 2 minutes, that's faster than last time)"
or whatever criteria you need
I work in a stand alone tutoring center for students with receptive and expressive language issues, bubba. I do inservice tutoring in schools sometimes, but this student comes to us
Is there a difference in praising her work instead of praising her...maybe that could gets around it all?
"I saw you you corrected your own mistake"
I think that would be allowed, yes, jbv. the only word she has expressly forbidden is "perfect" - and she has forbidden any earning of prizes
that' was my point lynxxx : )
good point, lynxx....
and jbv
at the end of the day, though.....we are still talking about a mom who has issues with someone praising and rewarding her child. I still think shes a nutjob.
Want does that mean. I am a physician, granted a surgeon not a psych, but what are expressive and receptive language issues?
wait. . .she has only forbidden perfect and prizes?
mostly it has to do with reading decoding and comprehension, buba
yes, jmc
I have to back away from this now. I lost my own daughter to mental illness. Too hard a subject--we did the best we could
this particular student can read a paragraph, story, etc, but cannot retain what she has read and then describe it back.
Trif, did you see my question about what's going on in her regular classroom - I daresay most teachers have some sort of incentive system
im so sorry roundbarn.
then i will say you seem to be being over harsh on the mom to call her a nut job. . .
So she does not have behavioral problems, and may be perfectly well adjusted, but has a cognitive problem.
Sorry RBarn..that would be so hard to bear
okay i will leave now. . .
yes, I did jbv....I am not familiar enough with her case as yet to fully comment on her school performance....
its all good jmc.....I probably did sound harsh. I just cant really wrap my head around this womans parenting style
no, not the girl's school performance, I meant is the mom telling her teachers the same thing
dealing with the praise--which is important-- is still the tip of the iceberg--all for now.
yes, bubba that is accurate
oh, yes, I would imagine that is the case, jbv, and I had wondered how they handle it. is she allowed to get an a? to be honest, I imagine the teachers are as jaded as I am at this point - roll their eyes and go on regardless
In that case, I think the mother has done a wonderful job. She has a child with cognitive problem and rather than coddle her and blame everyone else, she has raised a daughter whom you called sweet, well-mannered, etc, etc. Most people live down to the labels that the establishment applies to them, this mother has raised her well above what is probably expected.
By the way, I'm not unaware that there is a general discontent among many teachers, too, that external rewards have become de rigueur - schools and principals promote them - and teachers sometimes feel they are ridiculous
why should a child get a coupon for a pizza for having read 10 books? but this is an issue at the class and school level, I would not apply it to individual children and say, sorry you are not allowed to share in the reward
gads, I LOVE this chog, so much...thanks for chewing this over wtih me....speaking of work, I need to get to it. be well all
ok Trif - good luck!
gee I would have called all that a bribe
bye Trif
why is it that I picture one well behave child in that group, and the school is concerned because she is not being praised enough. While many of her classmates are poor behaved and are being complimented for not throwing a rock through the window.
bubba, I don't understand, why are you focusing on behavior? we are talking about a tutoring center and the focus is on having the child see she is making progress
bbl to finish...mount washmore beckons.
I don't mean to be fixated on behavior, but the child is going to the center to correct a cognitive skill. IMHO, schools are way to involved in trying to raise the child and to challenge the parents on these issues. But that is a discussion for another day, patient's are waiting and I must run. Thank you all

Morning all! Lots of e's in this one!
hi, all. this grid is weird
hi angel!
good morning uusue
hi alembick!
lots of phantoms today
uu, I don't remember #2 on name, are there 2 of you? are you the one that chats with my mom roundbarn
alembic, which of the tintin team are you?
good morning mom. I see we are both in the babble vortex instead of doing what we need to be doing
what do you mean "which of the tintin team?" do you mean which daughter am I? I am #4 daughter
morning roundbarn!
unfortunately I must go get my day started, bbl
or if you are asking about my screen name, alembick was the absent minded professor in King Ottakar's Sceptre who gets kidnapped and replaced with an imposter. Don't know why I chose that one. Just needed a Tintin name.
you are so right. hard to face the day! brian's mom is coming to clean more dust; we had a great poetry jamboree though, 100 came and most bought. Not my poetry, uusue.
uusue thank you for setting an example. My last day of spring break: Taxes and homework. Must go get to it. Bye all.

Good day to all.
Morning Scrabs
Hi Scrabs. How's bunny world?
My youngest rescue bunny, Gulliver, has really relaxed in the last few months, after being here a year. He lets me pet him, and now I lean over the doorway gate and feed him Cheerios. He runs over and stands up.
Too cute!
My Polo hurt his leg jumping off the bed. He is on cage rest for a whole week. He is not a happy camper
Awww. Give Gulliver some love from me.
Aw, poor boy.
Morning, all! Scrab--I know what you mean. I have 3 cats who were all strays and my little female has finally decided she likes me and wants affection---after 3 years!
If he isn't better he has to have his hip x-rayed
Mimi, 3 yrs is a long time.
Yes....I am a patient person with my pets. They deserve it.
any clue for the pe6 ? last one I need
Does anyone know if there is a list anywhere today plz?
I guess you could say I "rescued" my cats from the idiots who live next door to me.
volleymom has one
mollyL has one
I just kept talking sweetly to her and she saw that her brothers love me and get lots of affection so now she wants my attention a lot and is so sweet.
My oldest rescue bunny, Gandalf the Grey, remains very anxious and skittish at age 10. But he has had a nice life with me.
Thanks for the info. I'll go and look.
My two are rescues and Polo is still very skittish after two years with us
Judy, my first stray, who is a magnificent cat in every way, I got because his people just moved away and left him at the apt. complex. So we found each other.
Gandalf lets me pet him if I lean over the gate and reach him.
don't have it ouwachita
Thanks found volley's list.
My feeling is that animals don't need to "deserve" our love....we need to prove to them they we're worthy of theirs.

Yes...a couple of zoos, a wildlife park and a primate center. Animals keep me in touch with what is really important in life....basically love and kindness.
my grandkids do the same mimi
I don't get to see mine very often but I'm sure when I do, they'll have that effect as well, mkg.
I have enjoyed studying primatology since I was a kid, and took a college course.
Scrab, I can sum up the great apes this way with regard to disposition: Gorillas are the BEST of human nature, orangs can go either way, and chimps are the dark side. I've also raised monkeys at home and worked with others. Fascinating.
we are animals ourselves. i raised my kids after reading jane goodall and i did as the chimps did.
I was on my way to work with Dian Fossey and the mountain gorillas but had a change of plans. About a year later she was killed by poachers...I would have been, too.
Oh, Mimi.

Poor Scrab....I had migraines for years. When my hormones changed, they went away...just like my grandmother. Miserable to deal with. Try lots of caffeine.
Oh, I was looking at "stick" as a noun.
I started having migraines after a head injury at age 21, and they have become more frequent in the last 10 yrs or so. My ovaries were removed 10 yrs ago.
Is there nothing anyone can do?
scrabbs, get your doctor to check your hormone levels to see if there is an imbalance.
Did you have them removed in hopes to cure your migranes?
remind me not to go in for headaches to the hospital
Well, I know my estrogen level plummeted.
Haha, ruru!

hi mimi
Does any other part of the body produce estrogen?
No, ovaries were removed during 4th gyn/pelvic surgery I endured over a 5 yr period.
oh jeez scrabs
The estrogen is what partially caused mine...what about thyroid?
Yikes, don't even want to know. Sounds like it must have been a very difficult time for you Scrabs
Just another way I'm convinced God is NOT a woman!
It was a tough 5 yrs but after having all of my optional parts removed life was easier. I also had a grapefruit-sized fibroid tumor that turned out to be precancerous, thus leading to 2 more surgeries.
How old were you?
41 when I got news about tumor with atypical cells. It was scary to see an oncological gyn MD, but I alos was lucky to not have ovarian cancer as many of his patients have.
I've had 10 surgeries, Scrab, and most of them gyn-related so I empathize. I was actually glad to get fibroids when I was 42 because I got a hysterectomy...left the ovaries, though...mistake.

It is so sad that kids are pushed academically at an early age. Their creativity and imagination get squashed. And boys suffer the most because they are expected to sit still all day at an early age. Boys learn to dislike school by age 5.
That is. But, that's what parochial school is like.
I agree Scrabs.
Everything is so structured. No more just running and playing.
Fortunately, she is very well behaved [and she is young for kindergarten]
My mother used to complain about the elementary teachers that she'd see at meetings who would complain that their kids couldn't sit still in the classroon, when the teachers themselves couldn't sit still in the meeting!
Just because kids (many) can learn reading and math at ages 4 and 5 doesn't mean it is necessary at that age. I like the Waldorf School philosophy.
My other granddaughter goes to a Montessori school. What a difference
i am glad my son is done school now.it is sad the way it is structured now
I agree Scrabs, Waldorf schools are good. She is going to parochial school because the public schools in her town are really, really bad
There is a Waldorf School 15 min away from me, so I have learned a lot from parents that send their kids there.

I might be going crazy, but I cannot see how negligee can be found in this grid! After negli, how can you get back to the second g? What am I missing?
Nevermind. I was starting with the wrong N. Duh!
Poor Richard, off to the PB he goes.
Funny! I'm so old I can't compete with a 6 year old! Yikes!
Snags, I do, makes me laugh till I cry sometimes
anyone having trouble with the bulk load at Lickety tonight?
Last I checked, Lickety is not current today.
Something must be wrong with chat too, as I see no comment from Snags. : O
ah....i had not checked the grid itself....duh....
5.30 Molly, she might have gone now but I was deep in the grid
It's probably just me. I've been having a hard time following chat all day.
I think the chat was busy with clues and snags post slipped past
hi all....can anyone clue the e4..6 I am stumped ty
eg46
hi all, need to get half way. need clue for g word bottom row, e word bottom row and i word third column.
also only have one 7 and it is an. any other clues for 7s out there?
2 x eg4/6 - one is within the law minus first letter - other is self impotances
I mean the eg4..6, I have the one like girl
Hi mkg--an7 is my only 7.
3 x an7s
egos
That's one of them, cgypsy
Yep
oops wrong box :) ty chrissie
An7 cherubic
Similar root, Chrissie, on those an7's?
An7 ends in head nits
TY
An7 ends in light beer with different last letter
i dont get those eg clues at all. i have the one that is like id.
eg + ** Gore, former VP
people with wings in heaven are these and add the attribute of being "perfect and good""
ty. i thought it was egan and it wouldnt take it.
need clue for the e word bottom row please
en + what you tie on a shoe
en6
Ca7 ca + frames the mouth + double vowel
TY, Chris
I need another an7 though. The light beer clue isn't working for my brain.
ty ty ty got it.
ty for ca 7 good clue
Ep7 = e + oinker + pass out cards - d***
ty
the an7 clue worked for a six letter word.. :o|
wow ty chrissie. super clues.
Oh, I have that an6
Ep7 (yes, another one) same as last one but change last letter
If there are 3 an7's I am missing one
TY
Ne7 nightwear without the last letter
three an 7s? i have one only.
i have only one, too
ne is an 8 not a seven.
Have clued all 3 Scrabbs
oooooooooops sorry got the ne 7 now.
chrissie you clued three an 7s? hmm missed them. must scroll down'
One clue was for an an6 actually
We7 is the name of a shrub, clue: tv cook N***** Lawson
that's what i thought, too
OK, monkey found we7
Was it the one that ends in a tinkle?
dont know lawson. dont know light beer either. hmmmm
this clue worked for me as an6 and not an7....must be missing something.... Clue: An7 ends in light beer with different last letter
so i have one an seven. hmmm
That cook is mentioned a lot here, but I don't think she is as popular as people think. At least not in the US.
budweiser doesnt start wiht an.
If you have the 6 pen try adding a letter on the end
i watch a lot of cooking shows....don't know any Lawson...
an + consonant + hair bugs
:) mkg
add first vowel to end.
got the an 7 with hair bugs, great clue.
OK, I now have my missing 3rd an7. I need one more 7.
She's British, father used to be a politician
nor does anheimer bouch or how ever they spell it ...
well i don't get British tv... ;o)
anheiser i think it is. busch is last word
we + vowel + hair *** (goop to put on hair) + vowel
i tried adding an a to the light beer word....no luck
penquis you dont have the flag to show where you live.
I think the light beer clue is an plus a type of beer that is light in color?
sorry...Maine....US
She is on in U S too, used the clue earlier today
Or at least, a word that sounds rather like that
every brand has a light beer. i am so confused.
i got the light beer minus the last letter part...worked for a six letter word
an + to copy another person's written work is to p***iagrize + vowel = an6, now add consonant for an7
that we is a weird word i never saw before. still trying an light beer clue.
No, it's not a brand name. It's a kind of beer. Like stout.
Mkg, think about generic types of beers, like porter, stout, ale, ...
Mkg, another word for bigger, remove the r from the middle for the light beer
This is making me thirsty...
i got it. i didnt know that this was light beer. i thought it was all beer. oh well. live and learn. dont drink beer as am allergic to hops, malt.
Nearly there jan

28 left and I have no patience to look for them. See you all tomorrow morning.
i think i need some wine... :o|
Bye Scrabbs, sweet dreams
bye, Scrabbs!
This grid is more of a Baffle than a Babble
You have that right, ChrissieDee!
But as I have finished I will wish you all well and take my leave, unless I can offercany clues
that we7 and ep 7 are impossible.if not for clues i doubt many of us would of found them.hate it when the babblets are so odd it prevents many from finishing:((
Thanks, but I'm still missing 7. Still, I'm happy with that, with no list and all. Though without all the nice clues, I'd probably be missing closer to twice that.
congrats, Chriss!
That's the beauty of the chat crossy
it is indeed
ty Aloy
Actually, the we is not an uncommon one for gardeners. We have two of them in our back garden. Very pretty, with variegated green and white leaves aned lovely shell pink flowers.
lol, yes, forgot our babblers with green thumbs.i stand corrected
We have babblers with all kinds of expertise--I never get the sciency ones myself.
we have uusue to keep us in line with those;))
can anyone clue the i word?
I think it is a biological term; it's a bit like the giant Swedish home store, with a different consonant
il 4
thanks very much!
It's one of many 4 letter babblets that you get to recognize if you play a lot (like toea, naoi, raia, inia, etna...)
ok, thanks!
just to confirm...there are two an 7 words??
No, three/
ok, thanks...
an7/40, an7/40, and an7/36
i have only one....related to the other an words (including the 8 letter word)....
Shoving off, that dinner isn't going to make itself...
bye...thanks!
crossy made home made poutine with russet taters brushed with herbed and spiced olive oil and baked in da oven then topped with shaved quebec apple wood smoked cheddar, thick rich beef gravy and sprinkled with crumbled leftover bacon from this morning. added some salad on the side to keep scurvy away:))
Clever Crossy to announce menu after time for us to catch jet to make it to dinner in time!!
Okay. Crossy, I can replicate this dish without the special cheddar sans bacon. I'm taking on the challenge right now!! Thanks to you we shall have a great meal. All my best to you. Good night.
make sure you blanche the fries
hi folks
the cut chips MUST be blanched for 5 min in boiling water
Okay, crossy ready to blanche the fries.
Hi welki, fixing dinner so will bbl.
us, too - swiss/bacon burgers on the grill, seasoned fries and coleslaw
then coated in herbed and spiced oil(2-4 tbs) then oven cooked on top element strirring every 15 min or so
mmm,swiss bacon burgers...
sounds a bit like my roasted potatoes - cut into bite sized pieces, blanch for 5 min - when they start to boil, put a pan with some olive oil in the oven (375-400) to preheat - drain the potatoes and then SHAKE them in the pan (put the top on :) - pour onto the hot oil, season and bake for about 45 min - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside
problem is from start to finish my fries take a fair bit of time.i peeled 9 russets, cut them into plank style fries(i find shoestring style cook unevenly) blanching then baking eat up a total of about an hour
(when you shake the taters, they get a little fuzzy - that's what crisps up)
sounds almost same,welki
we are kindred souls - potato kins :)
mm,tater souls...
not the healthiest meal, but sometimes you have to treat yourself
yuppers, and unlike deep fried,i only use 2 tbs of virgin olive oil for it all
i confess - our fries are going to be F.R.I.E.D.
acck!!!
bad welki.naughty,naughty
yeah, that's me - dirty girl
(and we're having drinks, too - going to nutrition hell for sure)
have 4 drinks before dinner, then you will not give a damn about nutrition
there you go, and there i go - time to cook. have a nice night, crossy
funny round here, russet tates have gotten real inexpensive of late.$2.99 for a nice big ten pound bag
gn welki
hmm, take one of those russets, slice it crossways in think slices almost all the way through. Then drizzle olive oll, butter, sal , pepper, and bake it at 425 for 40 minutes. Mmmmm
thin, not think
ah.... hasselback potatoes!
Potatoes in oven with cheddar bacon cheese. Will put ham with them for the meat instead of beef.
hello everyone :)
I am at a complete standstill here... still 25 to go too
tough grid indeed
I'm currently trying spanish words
I'm doing a words and have 1/3 of the possible. Now trying words in gibberish.
the eastern asian honeysuckle was a surprise
finished, does anyone need any clues before I go?
WTG bubba!! :)
Not knowing what to ask for, really. Congrats bubba!!
BRB
still missing 2 7's..both ep's
do you want clues for the ep words?
e + Chesterwhite + monte hall ... lets make a d***
e + Chesterwhite + head of a college department: d***
I see now it is a Chester White
and Monty
wow, arcane - been away for awhile and forgot lol
this is probably a dumb question but....if my word stats say in the "7" box 7/8....does that mean i only have one more seven letter word to find?
yes
yes
then how come people say there are three 7 letter an words?.....i only have one but i need only one more 7 letter word
there are three an 7 words
i have seven 7 letter words now...supposedly i have 7 of 8 seven letter wwords...only one an an word...how many 7 letter words are there in this board?
ca 7/36; ep 7/40 x 2; ne 7/44; we 7/52
plus the three an 7s
thanks....i see it now....i do have two an words....missed one when counting mine....
two an 7/40 and the last of the three is an 7/36
just found the last of the seven letter words...finally!
i give up tonight....22 left.....going around in circles....thanks for your help....
Good night.
The pariah has poisoned the chat .... suppose I should go.
goodnight....
hey babblers
hey...just on my way out....see you later!
hi all
just testing to see if I have pink panther as icon pic
if i click on it you do
hello again :)
No wild, Friday night party types in here. : D
Hi Molly, guess not :)
i have been slaving over hot tax returns all day. . .i am not wild about anything
Hey jmc :)
I just got back from camping. Fun, but exhausting.
The excitement is palpable ..
good evening all - where were you camping?
Hey tor, teach...sorry was stuck in the grid...tough one for me
We went to Brown County State Park...it's about an 1 1/2 south of us.
*hour
We have camped in Brown county several times. The area reminds me very much of here in West Virginia. We also have camped in Spring Mill State Park. When I was growing up (in Illinois) we used to go down to Turkey Run Park. Many fond memories of Indiana parks.
:)
When I was typing in BrownCounty I was expecting "where" ...lol
** finito ** last word WE 7/52, type of woody Asian plant
Haven't been to Turkey Run for several years, I'm going to try to get there next :)
WTG teach!! :)
Yay teach!
I remember going on hayrides at turkey run but that was "hundreds" of years ago.
last time I was there we went on a hayride...it's been maybe 6-7 years ago
Lotsw of caves that you can walk through in Spring Mill - though my husband had been reading that many are closed now because of the problem of the "virus" that can be carried by humans that infects the bat populations there. Doesn't effect humans, but kills off the bats
We went horseback riding yesterday and did a bit too much hiking today :)
Really?? wow I hadn't heard of that...poor bats
I've been to Marengo Caves a couple times but not recently
The first time we went to Brown county my youngest son had been told he was too young to go horseback riding, but my older son could. The younger one took riding lessons, loved horses - and evidently was very upset about not being allowed. When we went through Indiana again he wanted to go back there so that he could finally get to ride. Found that it was a very "tame" trail ride after all the riding he had done.
We have been involved in caving for many years and have known the people who own Marengo Caverns. West virginia has hundreds / thousands of caves.
:) yes, the trail ride is rather tame indeed, still fun though
Never been to any in Virginia...have been to Mammoth and Horse Cave and a few other small ones in KY an TN
time to get some sleep - will be travelling for the weekend - granddaughter is on a dance team and in a competition. First time I've been to one of them.
Ooo..how exciting :)
Where is the competition?
Narnia, apparently ..
sometimes, when I'm lurking about waiting for the flip, I look up and read something that just makes me giggle. Torgone, you made my cats look at me like I'm crazy.
this is a hard little grid I give up and will wait for the flip, and hello everyone
And they are doing the chronicles also, tor.
I do try ..
And you do well.
Quite so
Just read your profile, knutmeg. Love it.
Thanks. A quote to live by. :)
I have relatives in southern, IL. Are you located, by chance, in the south?
No, I could be in Wisconsin in 10 minutes if I wanted. I'm In the far north suburbs of Chicago.
uusue, if you're on--I appreciate your astronomy pix--spent the afternoon burning the prairie behind Charlie's house--he will be giving the major address at the 50th anniversary of the St L planetarium next week--he gave the opening address 50 years ago when he wqs a kid of 25
Gotcha.
sent that before finishing--he's our renaissance man, I've taken all his courses (I have been one of few profs who take their colleagues courses0 I should email this to you.
hi. phantom is pelican
...above all shadows rides the sun and stars forever dwell/I will not say that day is done nor bid the stars farewell .. . Sam, prob imperfectly quoted, when he lay under the mountain expecting to die (book, not movie) When I go to Oxford I go to Tolkien's grave and leave a token. (Also taught Tolkien every year.)
knutmeg that was for you. You're close to wis, you should read my Wis books. Look up roundbarnstories.com.
gapeach, are your relatives in Springfield?
No, RoundBarn, they are near Pittsfield and several really small communities. I was born in Alton and adopted to an elderly couple who took me to KY, where I was brought up. I found my biological people when I was in my 40's.
Well, I started out to say, no, but they go to Springfield for serious illnesses or surgeries.
Can I please get a clue for either of the n's for nbt?
tabby, ne8, lacy night attire
Thanks, Roundbarn. The quote is spot on. I loved the songs from the book, and was sad that they didn't make it into the movie.
Thanks knutmeg :-)
I have friends in Pittsfield, Alton. The Pittsfield friend writes a history column for the local paper.
knutmeg, do you have the songbook and the record with Donald Swann singing? I want "I sit beside the fire" and "In Western Lands" sung at my funeral, which I trust is a ways off.
I have two half-sisters in Pittsfield.....will ask them if they are familiar with the history column.
The friend's name is Carol McCartney, she's published a book of her columns, and is in our writing group but doesn't get to Spfld often.
In fact, I will ask them to send me clippings of the column, as I am not familiar with the history at all. T'will be interesting.
No, I don't. I was only introduced to the series when I met my husband back in 2001. He bought me the Trilogy for our first Valentine's day, I had it finished before March rolled around. Have reread them several times in the last dozen years, but haven't sought out supplements. I didn't even know there were songbooks.
Thanks for giving me your friends name.
knutmrg--only one beautiful songbook, that I know of.
brb
granny?
I'll have to track it down. I love that the songs from the first and third movies sound like they could have been from the text, though they're not exactly there.
It's called "The Road Goes Ever On", music by Donald Swann, published by Houghton Mifflin 2978
I mean 1978 of course.
1978... that was a good year... ;)
I'm not going to make it to 2978 roundbarn?
yo, ruru! was in shower, nice and clean where it counts.lol
I'm back.
big grid please
how are you, mate? i'm up to 9 hour shifts. knee is great, fibromyalgia s**t. have started a different regimen with meds to see if i can control it.
