Padded walls?
hi ru
naughty stiddy....have you been very active today, dear?
ruru, rubber walls....but padded works too
Hi jilli
ha 7 x 2
Actually, yes. I helped a friend help one of her friends run a long errand, and then found that lovely fabric at the fabric store for my office curtains, and then... hm. not a lot physically after that. But I am hungry nonetheless.
hey ruru!
Hi stid hi granny
hope you didn't overdo it, stid.
* big smoochy hug* hey ruru
stid, I'm glad you got your fabrics. Are any of them the ones you showed me?
No, I am sure I didn't. And now that the clouds have cleared after the rain, the migraine is gone. Maybe that is why I am hungry. I didn't eat much yesterday.
I want hashish to be in the grid
I got two of them, jill -- need to talk things over with tom about some of the others, but I definitely have two more that I know I want and will either get online or go back to the store.

Me too rose
It is pretty awful

Ugh
when we lived in the Montreal area and my son and his wife were in BC, she wrote a letter and it arrived days later still stinking of the stuff she liked in those days.
may I have a clue for that sc5/16 please?
Think Joe jilli
Only one vowel.
what kind of Joe?
Good grief
Rhymes with it.
Think yiddish jilli
according to the dictionary it is an americanism, origin unknown
Yiddish I don't know much awreddy
I cannot see the sh 9
jilli, means a boring person, a jerk
Extend sh5
Maybe you are lacking the sh5 quality.
if you were in a state of not being dull you'd see it, ru
thanx whiz, that did it for me, found
(sorry, couldn't resist)
Duh ooooooh

flosey, were they your last 3 words? you have fireworks?
yes rose my last, FW
ohhh...then all i can say is...WTG FLOSEY!!!
today was our oldest son's 50th b'day
wow, flosey, i remember 50....do you? and isn't it scary when our kids turn an age we remember?
then a big party on the weekend, i take it?
lol rose, it does seem to make me feel older
even though, at the time, I was considered old to have a first - was 31
so you were an elderly primagravure. not sure if that is how it's spelled. means first timer.
but had them all in a hurry, 17 months between first 2 boys, then 2 1/2 yrs later, 15 months between the 2 girls
i was the opposite, had my first at the age 23
wasn't married until I was 29
good grief, flosey, regular glutton for punishment, weren't you? but then, which one would you hand back?
lol, none at all
they played so well together
same here for my mum. she had 5, the last 2 were twins. we laughed for 6 years.
did they have pampers then Flosey and Rose-lol
do you see William in my icon?
someone smack that woman!!! well i certainly didi.
no puglet - cloth diapers at that time - they did come in with liners which helped a lot with the washing
lol I did and I hope he didnt touch anything in the car-lol
giggles Rose
but like flosey, i CHOSE to use cloth nappies, and made my own pilchers from doctor's flannel. remember that stuff, flosey?
and in the winter, they came in like boards, had to hang them around the kitchen to thaw out
Ive changed a few cloth diapers---And at home we didnt own a dryer
that was likeme asking my mother if she wore a bustle when she was a little girl...poor woman, she nearly died from laughing at that one.
lol rose,
I never could understand that--wash clothes hang them out to dry-take em down-wet them ann wad them up to be ironed-lol
when then hubby and i went away i wasvery daring and bought disposable nappies and baby food in the tin or jar.
they didn't even have tghem in the 60s
them
yeah, flosey...wasn't until the 70's. even them i cooked all his food myself. i had a moulie, which ground the food into a pulp.
Ive seen alot of things come and go in this world of ours
and I've never seen a baby with diaper rash when wearing disposables
and before i bought the moulie, i pushed his food through the sieve, using the back of a tablespoon.
Oh I have Flosey
diaper/nappy ra4...which is why i made my own pilchers, instead of buying/using the plastic ones.
oh really? but, I've only seen 2 babies (grandsons)
Ive seen alot at the nursing home too
roflol, i bet you have, pugs
I think alot of it is due to no air to the bottom after time
which is why us elderly parents used to expose our babies rear ends to the sun as much as possible.
how old are the homes before they stop nursing?
must be off to bed, loved the chat, thanks ladies, goodnight now
lol, BR...older than me...
bye Flosey
good night, dear. sweet dreams, flosey
Rose how is Braxton doing now? Are they done testing on him now
Iam sorry OO didnt even say good morning to you
pugs, o-o's response or not doesn't worry me. he has issues, which i empathise with. i accept him for where he is at.
It dosent bother me either.I dont let things like that get to me--there are other who wont talk too
braxton is soo beautiful. he has a head of ha4, a lovely soft, mid-brown colour. putting on weight at the rate of knots.lol. he back to his birth weight again. last scan showed biliary ducts are normal, and his gallbladder has developed to normal size.
thats wonderful and I know a big weight tooken off of everyone
they are keeping a sh5 eye on the bleed from his adrenal gland. they have told son it is not uncommon, and should rectify itself within a few months.

hi, all. I am in somehwat of a state of shock. My husband has been trying to get the Veteran's Adminitration to admit that he is 100% disabled as a result of his military service for five to ten years. He just got the letter of certification from them yesterday, along with a sizeable amount of backpay.
what a wonderful surprise. Sometimes the bureaucracy even works.
he almost gave up at the last minute, but I did not allow that.
Wow - that's great news. Good for you guys/
with this money and his increased income monthly, I will be retiring next February, and we will put enough money into our mortgqge to cut 8 years off the loan and save 25k in interest. Then we will start making two house payments per month to pay it off faster.
I am very pleased for you, Angel..Being mortgage free is a wonderful feeling..such a weight off you....This money will help you get there soo much quicker.
Congrats Angel. Fantastic for you.
Very happy for you and hubby Angel. Thank you for sharing your good news.
Hi all, hiya chrissie

Hey, you could exercise together
He has been told to keep it moving tho
Only thing tablets can help with is the pain
good morning everyone:)
he had it a few months ago and nhs direct told him the same thing, just take tablets, Hi cross
Hi crossy
Google exercises for shoulder impingement.
i'll tell him but he's not good at taking instruction, he's a man

hello annie
hiya teach
Morning Annie
beautiful day, Molly
It doesn't get much better than this in August. : )
indeed
i got 2 ke4/8, might as well just ask right away and get it over with, what's the 3rd
ka4/8
thanks
thanks Bea
Bea, how is the little girl?
She is doing well. Growing like a bad weed. Thanks for asking.
as opposed to a good weed?
was just thinking the same
Something my grandma used to say.
Beautiful mornin' folks
Is there a good weed?
turns of phrase are on my mind as there is this makeshift memorial sign up on the corner for a former hockey coach which says "always remembered, never forgotten" which is annoying me.
In the southern way of thinking, the bad weeds are the ones that grow the fastest.
i mean, you don't have to write both. if always remembered, then, never forgotten is a given.
or vice versa.
i see so it's not that there are good weeds, it's that there are WORSE weeds.
Yes, but growing like a worse weed just doesn't roll off the tongue the same way. : )
well, i can accept this as a reasonable thing then. but always remembered, never forgotten, that's just wasting words.
hi all. any clue for the 9?
i just started...
sh9/66
As Wendell Johnson said...always and never are two words you should always remember never to use. : D
which sh does it come from Bea
and now i get to the c and realize that my rant about the sign included a c word, whoops.
the bottom one, bichon
ty
does the sh9 have any connection to an edge of a razor
yes.
yes
Yes
yes annie
...they all said at once...
i think we have a consensus!
thanks, all, got it
is sh 9 double word?????????cant see it yet.
the quality of...
quality of a knife.
compound word
ty got it. super clues. ty
how about clues for the 8s?
ca 6/21 -- name of a Roman emperor that sounds like an order to take a woman into custody ...
not a compound word
sh 9 is a compound word. The last 4 letters is a word in Enable
oh, wow! thanks bichon
yw Babs
and a grid word too. ty got it.,
but, it's not really a compound word. i mean, whatever ne4 means, it's not being used that way in sh9.
True hurshy
in the sh 9 you have a root word and a suffix
on the high se4 your ship attacked, and the dread pirate roberts never takes prisoners
i cant get that ca word. i know the clue but must be messing the ending up.
mkg, it's also a salad
new word for me ... sn 6/21 -- add easily annoyed: p**vi**
well, i can hardly afford to make exceptions. i mean, once word leaks out that a pirate has gone soft, then people begin to disobey you and then it's nothing but work work work all the time!
I like that word
stealth word and pl
you mock my pain!
hints for the 8's pls
life IS pain princess. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something
dont get sn word.
My favorite word today is co5/16
si 5 and 6 -- add a planet for the six and back one for the 5
i DIED that day! and you can die too for all i care.

i was spelling it wrong. i had the word but thats all.
as.....you.....wish......
oh my sweet westley, what have i done!
{this princess bride interlude brought to you by the word se4}
got the co8
I do not think I will follow your suggestion
still trying to find sn 6 word. hmmmm
oh what's the co8?
pl of what you sit on
ty
clue for the co 8 please.
plural of the 7, to lead an academic group with another
maybe Best Buy has them
to lead with another? i am confused.
like, a committee
co+ a place to sit
got it. ty ty
Some movies just lend themselves to people spouting line after line...The Princess Bride is one of those.
heads of committee who share the role or head..
now need one more 8.............
especially if in high school you did sit in front of the tv typing up the entire script
Draco enacted a ha 5/14 code
: O
ha8/50
*embarrassed because she immediately went to draco malfoy when she saw that clue*
the ha 7 and 8 extend the 5 to even more severe
fantastic clues. ty got them.
Well Hursh, good chance he was named after the Athens dude.
thnx
oh i am sure he was
still
now just need the single O in 4th column
turbines ha 7/32 wind power
oc4
thnx hurshy - halfway, NBT and NBS - time to go bake some cookies while it is still cool this morning
ma 5 and 6 add a garden tool that disturbs the soil's quietude and perhaps some weeds ... wonders if pa has one?
lol, thanks, o-o
so, who else is watching the new BBC series "broadchurch"?
can you see BBC on internet? don't have TV
you can in britain, and you can in other places if you cheat.
google cherie bbc iplayer if you don't mind lawbreaking
and are reasonably tech savvy
rh 7/40 -- add a word for exaggerated masculine pride: m******mo
whoa, that's a new one
TY, o-o, and good day to all.
great clue
then a final one .... beginning of elementary or high + the first two of a Stooge
the ways I've seen in the past took a lot of time and patience to download ...is this something different?
Hi Scrabbs, back from kayaking?
I returned from the Adirondack Mtns on Sunday night. My head is still there. It is my favorite place to be. We kayaked in so many places, including Lake Placid.
I loved Lake Placid
most properly.. beginning of word that often follows elementary or high
Lake Placid brings to mind the winter olympics and hockey
got it, thanks
The Olympic sites are used for training and visitors can go too. The ski jumps are like big monsters looking over the region.
Miracle On Ice
the sc5 word is Yiddish...Enable says of unknown origin
i love that movie
We kayaked on the AuSable River and the Chubb River in Lake Placid too. Beautiful rivers in wilderness settings just outside of the village.
was the water cold?
Scrabs...there is an AuSable River in NY?
Yes, high 60's. Not too cold to swim in though.
Yes, phaeton, in the Adirondacks.
clue for sc5?
some random joe sc5 off the street...
sc5---middle ***ool and not less but **re\
We have one here where I live in MI...famous for canoeing. They have a race every year from Grayling to Oscoda on Lake Huron.
ah..thanks! never thought about it as yiddish word....but certainly heard from my parents who spoke some yiddish
Nice, phaeton
?
About the canoe race, phaeton
would anyone like some Cold? we have plenty in my office, i can send it to you fedex
sorry...posts weren't coming thru
Cold?
no..have enough cold here...waiting for warm
Who is responsible for regulating HVAC, hurshy?
oh, facilities
but there's not much they can do. see, the building is so old. and when they renovated it, they didn't quite get it right. and it would be super expensive to fix it right, you'd have to redo everything, tear up the walls, and whatnot. even then, i dunno, maybe really you just have to tear down the building and start from scratch.
are there any mis- prefix words?
Morning Kiddies
your supervisor's brother ... come in from the cold
no
Hi hego
my supervisor's brother? my supervisor is cold too.
only one mi word
ciao scrabs
spies come in from the cold at times, or try to.
oh, she isn't my supervisor anymore, hasn't been in a long time.
i don't have too much contact with her anymore.
thankfully.
oic
You must be rather autonomous?
no, i just have a different role, and a different supervisor.
nobody's autonomous... except, in a way i guess, tenured faculty!
is the web page up-to-date?
you work on that, don't you?
it's... up to date in some respects... perhaps not in others... there's only so much i can do if i am not given information.
yes, I have some experience with that kind of frustration
One cite's word of the day: allochthonous

Hi Judi, Happy Friday : )
Amen to that.
How is your husband doing?
He's uncomgfortable in his brace and having some pain issues, but, all things considered, not too bad.
Well, mostly good beats some other options. Hope he's on the way up.
Yes, it will be an uphill slog for him. I did order him a recliner yesterday. That will be a comfortable option for him at home anyway.
Oh, I can hear the story now. "I had to almost break my back to get a recliner." : )
Ha ha! That was just before he said, "I was breaking my back to stay fit".
Well, just as long as he doesn't start making any Brokeback Mountain jokes. : P

Bad doesn't even come close, TO. Think of the worstest feeling you can possibly imagine. Then triple it. Then quadruple it. Then take it to the nth degree. Then do it all again and you might get close. :'(
oh red. i am so sorry.
BUT I'm on the upside now, I believe. I hope. Seriously. I really, truly, honest-to-goodness-ly pray that there isn't something worse than that and that I never have to feel anything even close to that ever again.

Hi stidgmere
Hello to all.
It is pretty beautiful in the Northeast today as well.
Thanks so much, Jellen.

And hi all..
It rained all day here in the soggy Southeast.
Nothing like humidity to make for limpness.
And does it ever!
We are taking full responsibility for the cool dry weather in the northeast, since we just had a new furnace and central air conditioning system installed. They finished today.
I'm sure the region is lining up to try your new air conditioning and heating system, wht! We don't always know who to thank for good fortune.
Good for you, wht.
So now it is cool, my wife is looking for another hot spell to test it out.

Fun is all that matters, though some would disagree!
One of the nice things about this puzzle is that there is no time limit.
Except when I run out of time at 2.59 pm - just before flip!
ho5-16 please.....thanks
Oh yeah, I guess technically there is a time limit.
But I agree with Molly. don't want to do puzzles that have a very short time limit.

Use your sm clue, Peach.

Same as the co5/16 except first letter.

Hi Min
Phew! Down to 30
Min, I'm confused. Is it Tell A Joke Day or Relaxation Day? Or should I just tell a joke while relaxing?
Oopsie, you must have just changed it.
I changed my profile MollyL. It is National Tell A Joke Day.
The LOL necklace has got to go though. As does over use of LOL. : D
Hmmm favorite joke, carlos danger
MollyL, I appreciate the fact that you always take the time to look at people's profile everyday. Not everyone does this
You have fun icons Min, I always look forward to seeing what your icon of the day is.
I also enjoy looking at different icons but I'll still stick with Tigger for me!

anyway back to writing slides about the moon and Mercury - see you all tomorrow!
Goodnight uusue2! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log.
Mercury and the moon are all right tonight ..
always a pleasure to read your clue stories, Min. Thank you
Nice clue story, Min, as always. x
Or not ..
Hello pida 1! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log.
Hello Jacula & thank you! How are you doing this evening?
I'm doing well Min, Hello to you and everyone else tonight.
Ignore me, btw, 'cos I'm not really here. I only came in to read my friend Hazel's profile post about growing up in Northern Ireland during 'The Troubles'. The name was coined in the late 1960s but Ireland has been 'troubled' since the 17th century. It was sad to read how people growing up there saw the conflict as 'normal' until people from the outside told them it was not. Here on the UK mainland, we weren't really shocked into realisation until the Birmingham pub bombings in 1974. That felt to us like I would think 9/11 felt to people in the USA. We had a settled community of Irish people and most were as shocked and horrified as we were. Time has moved on. Ireland has a fragile peace and we on the mainland have new threats from other settlers.
Hi Min - I've had a lovely couple of days. It's been a butterfly festival in the garden.
Does anyone need any clues to finish, since I've been outed for being here? lol
