brb need water
thank you
ugh want to go to bed but some idiot in my neighborhood is having a super loud party :(
like, karaoke or something
done
I have the same problem lately rows
Yay ruru
w2g Ru
WTG RURU!!!
i just don't get it, it's inconsiderate
one of my neighbors is an aspiring rock star
it's midnight on a Sunday, we have work in the morning
Do earplugs help?
emphasis on aspiring
i was disappointed to learn that the noise wasn't from the bar down the road where my friend works... i called her and she said it's some people having a birthday party
i'd prefer expiring rock star personally
if i wear earplugs, i won't wake up when my alarm goes off
oh, oh, oh....apologies for butting in, but i wanted to wish all our canadian babblers a belated happy thanksgiving.
this is Hondurans singing loudly to their Honduran music...
night all.. i have to get up early
sleep well, mate.
me too :(
night Ru
night Rows
i'm not logging off yet
this music is ridiculously loud
i might go see which house it is and complain
rows, are you quite comfortable with that? is there alcohol involved do you think?
yeah, that sounds kind of scarey to do by yourself
Hi Mrs Rose, how was your monday
quiet, thanx, miz pugs. how was your sunday? *giggle*
quiet too--football afternoon
i think the sedatives are beginning to work well. it's taken nearly 2 weeks, but i have slept right through to about 7am for the last 2 mornings.
I did bathe two of my dogs
thats good, and I bet it makes you feel better too
ugh it went about as expected
Hows the pain in the leg?
they didn't fucking care, were assholes about it
said they have a permit to do this until 2 am
i have to work at 7 in the morning
that's Honduras for you, stupid police chief was probably bribed to let them do it
awww rows. sorry that your neighbours are so uncaring.
think I'd still call the police and check it out
flosey, hows the cold?
ask if they do, in fact, issue such
i can't call the police, i don't have their number... and i wouldn't trust that they would help
the police here are very corrupt, and the chief of police is a creepy guy who i've met before
Make a lot of noise Early in the am rows
not much better, had to decline another invite for Thanksgiving dinner
pugs, knee a tad swollen today and yesterday, which is why i have had a pyjama day. i did shower, but the jammies went straight back on. it's the only way i can make myself take it quietly.
ahh, sorry to hear that Flosey
the kids skyped us though, was fun
i tried asking them nicely and explaining i had to work at 7 in the morning, they didn't care
ah Rows, that is very poor neighbourliness (wow, is there such a word)
whoot, ruru, has it rows. as you leave for work, sit in your car, blasting the horn for a full minute.
were you on it too much Rose--going shopping and out with friends?
i don't have a car
i walk to work like 2 blocks, away from my house and theirs
don't think so pugs...i took it very easy, for me.
fall down and scream for help
dpm
Kick some cans around or bang a drum
don't really fall
rows, would they see you if you crept up to the house and pulled a pwoer fuse?
Took what easy Rose?
i don't know, i don't know how to do that, and i'm sure they wouldn't even notice
the power goes out here all the time
go to work and leave your radio blasting
but rows, you pull out a fuse their power goes off...
haha i don't have a car flosey
i live in rural Honduras
and power goes out here all the time
I mean your house radio
don't have one
i have a computer with quiet speakers
anyway, in reality it actually does sound like the music has gotten lower...
rows. do you havea mobile /cellphone?
so i might lay down and attempt to sleep
maybe by the time i was shouting at them they realized i was serious
I knew a minister's wife who turned church music on the next morning after neighbours were partying very late on a Saturday night
i have a cell phone yes
was going to sugeest you set the alarm on it to vibrate, and put it under your pillow.
oh, i'd probably move it
in my sleep
then you could put the earplugs in
Whew. Glad I read that carefully rose
I knew Ru would come on on that--lol
roflol. ruru!!!! phone, dear, phone
i think i'm just going to try going to sleep
sweet dreams, rows
good luck Rows, sweet sleep
thanks
i might get 6 hours or so if i'm lucky
Good vibrations rose
LOLOLOL
pugs, ruru has a one track mind....
Do you remember the song, ruru
and helloooo peach
Hey there, Rose, dear.
I do
Hi all :)
hey liz
I think I was born 30 years too soon.
Hey there, Liz.
I'd be a dildo to not remember the Beach Boys
hi Peach and Liz
Hi there, flosey.
i was born 20 ye4s too late. love swing music....
When are you off to Toronto Flosey?
October 23rd
yor said it ruru...
Yes, swing is nice.
Exciting!
yes, also going to meet joso
so does my ca6. hislittle head bobs up and down, and he has learned to whistle some parts of the tunes.
That's really exciting - glad you could fix that up.
Actually, I saw them in concert when we moved to GA in '77.
he has both sons' numbers
take photos, please, flosey
c
My thoughts too, Rose
ah Peach, that would have been great
I saw the Kingston Trio when they came to TO
Yes, it was nice.
Tom Dooley.....
no, didn't see him
oh, lol, the song
sorry went for coffee--Hi peach and Liz
wow, am I out of it
Hi Pugs :)
No, hon, that was the song, "Hang down your head, Tom Dooley, poor boy, your bound to die"....etc.
yes, I remember it well, hubby still listens to them
That was a good retort tho, flosey.
he has a few of the old groups on cd
Hey, puglet.
phew, i thought i was losing it. thought it was a song...then flosey said....
you girls are playing with my head tonight...
lol granny, and I'm much older than you
Most of the young singers are unknown to me.
I even know that song! It was in our song books at school
brb
I haven't a clue what song you're talking about!!!!
that would have been the 50s Liz I think
Well, I was born in the 50s - but obviously that song passed me by!
I once in a while watch the fuse station to get some of the up dates on today singers so I know what the kids are talking about. And I do like some of the today artist
oh, liz, hang your head in shame..lol..google it and listen to it, i'm sure you know it.
:( reprimanded!!!
it should be on youtube
lolol, liz....as if.
Only joking!
that song may be older then the 50's cause my grandma sung that too I remember
liz, google tom dooley, you'll find it
Confused! I've lost track now of which song!!! Duh!
I just love youtube....they've got the original Rat Pack in Vegas....with a "young" johnny Carson on with them in one of the shows.
sing it for us Rose--lol
I havent never tried you tube
are you feeling better Peach
liz, the first site for tom dooley, has a sound track
Found it - listening! No, don't know it!
Confusion - thought Tom Dooley was the artist!!!! Please don't stop talking to me!
Yes, thanks, puglet. Today has been an ok day...and I'm very thankful.
awww, liz. your education is sadly lacking. just consider you have been educated
Never too late to be educated. Guess I'm more into Rock music!
Oh, dear Liz. We would never do that. I stay in a state of mild confusion it seems....LOL
glad for you Peach
Confusion reigns!! Great!
Iam so sick of hearing about that Milley girl!
Liz, go to youtube and type in Elvis Presley in Vegas doing "Polk salad Annie". You won't be sorry.
liz, tom dooley the song, best version by the kingston trio
Yes - that was the one I found.
Me too, pug. Her father upholds her awful behavoir.
Listening now, Peach.
Another good one by the Kingston Trio is MT
I know! Peach----are you an Elvis fan Peach
rather MTA..(the Mass. Transit Authority) I know you will remember it.
let's just say i love music...except for the theme music for alfred hitchcock presents...if i he4 that one more time..i will probably have a blazing row with DH. he has been watching dvds all day.
lol--poor Rose
Yes, I do like his music. I saw his home in Memphis, years ago....took a couple of pictures....he was out of town tho.
well didnt you buy those for him Rose
Another song I don't really know - but I think I've heard this. I also love music but my taste tends to start around the era of the Beatles and on from there but not particularly fond of much modern stuff, though do like some.
lol...peach....he was out of town...??
Yes, darn it, Rose.
liz, i was so lucky. my dad loved swing...he used to dance around the kitchen with mum, humming the tunes. i guess that's why i like swing so much.
happy memories.
My parents listened to a lot of classical - also Gilbert & Sullivan and Herb Alpert, Louis Armstrong!
Elton John was here last year at the big arena. I do like him but I didn't go. Billy Joel was in CT when I was there.....he filled the house for 8 nights straight. Now if he ever comes here, I will try to go.
oh, dear..tiajuana brass?? i have the original record...how sad...
am listening to the Romantic Guitar of Liona Boyd
a they were in TO, we went to see them
I like alot of music from different areas, but my folks were mostly into country
the tiajuana brass, I mean
Remember that!
lucky flosey...i so loved tiajuana brass
So if I say I went to see The Stones, The Who -- ! But I also saw Leonard Cohen - loved the misery!! Still do!
and a lot of the classics i danced to...as a ballerina...*sigh* those were the ye4s
I love that song "In the Mood" from the big band era
Puglet, do you like Bluegrass?
some of it Peach
Time for shower - back from the gym. See you later, I hope. If not to them that do, sleep well :)
isn't that a Glen Miller song?
yes Flosey
I know that one!!!!!!!!!!
bye Liz
loved that movie
Think so, flosey.
was sad of course, his plane crashed returning to US during the war
Yes, that was sad.
the movie about the dorsey brothers is good too
What is to title, Puglet?
Hi all -- had a very happy pre-Thanksgiving, so late here. But just had to say the Glenn Miller era was mine, and then there was Sinatra, and I was one of the ecstatic throng of bobby-soxers to see him at the Paramount in NYC. Oh how we swooned!
I think that is the title--The Dorsey Brothers
listening to leonard cohen...amazing
Thanks, I would like to see that.
and we all wore bobby sox
Hi Jilli
bbl
lol, jilli. ....and how was your thanks-giving?
bobby socks and those black and white shoes!
saddle shoes
bye Peach
sometimes blue and white
later dearest peach
I remember wearing those shoes to school!
Hi rose -- had all my family here -- they left this afternoon, and then I got a surprise invitation from a friend I only knew slightly to dinner at her place with a group of great people -- and great cusine! Very heppyu !
*happy!
how nice Jilli
So happy I couldn't type right, lol!
lucky jilli - I had to stay home nursing a cold - first one I've had in years
Oh no, flosey!! May it go away FAST!
but the kids skyped us
won't be out tomorrow night
Aww, grat!
have to get rid of it before going east
jilli, glen miller was my parents era...then rock and roll was mine, then heavy metal and head banging belonged to my sons....that's 3 generations...plus the older music belonging to the royal courts of england, which i studied as part of ballet. i guess i was a very fortunate person. exposed to all kinds of music.
Is turkey the main thanksgiving meat in canada
Yikes -- great, not grat. I think I'd better go to bed!
yes, but the kids had a ham - their Daddy doesn't care for turkey
sounds like great sounds to live with, rose
i love music. it is a part of me...and now i have a piano...sooo looking forward to playing it.
I must tell you about brussels sprouts done with bits of bacon and fried onion -- OOh, yum!
And yams with orange juice and thyme...
BRUSSEL SPROUTS!!! they are a threat over he4.
I use to listen to those old thick 78 records on my dad's crank up record player
now yams are a different situation altogether...all for yams...
that sounds good Jilli, I like sprouts
and yams too
brussels sprouts are best if picked after a light frost, they say.
yes jilli
acckk, pugs...there's something wrong with your taste-buds..have it seen to straight away.
same to you, rose!
I think they kind of taste like cabbage
lolol
Cabbage is good do, if done properly.
bout the only veggie I dont like is homoney
I like cabbage fixed about anyway and even raw
and what on earth is homoney? Anything like hominy grits?
hubby made me creamy cabbage sould - it felt good going down my sore throat
lolol...just ran the bacon and fried onion with brussel sprouts past DH. he said fine...just leave out the brussel sprouts.
its made from corn, Jilli
well, raw cabbage is cole slaw, and that depends on the dressing.
homeny grits - have never had them
flosey, they're like cream of wheat.
I make a cole slaw using chinese cabbage- it's lighter, crispier
chinese cabbage? You mean bok choy?
I like raw sweet corn too
but they're served with a meal, aren't they
George grows it, looks like a long cabbage - thinner, and keeps the crunch better
I think hominy grits are mostly breakfast, but honey chile, ah'm no suthunuh.
gag on cream of wheat
Glad to hear it, flosey -- I think I used to have it in Shanghai, never found any here.
I like grits but the homeny Iam talking about is like puff corn kernals and you can get it in white or yellow
put maple sugar bits on cream of wheat and it becomes edible.
yes, hominy is round white fat corn kernels, I believe they're made by soaking dry corn in lye or lime water? like it.
hi rbud
was one of my favorites when I was little, don't know why.
Never seen that kind of hominy -- hmmm. Where does it exist?
I like cream of wheat and the cocoa wheats too
hello rbud
hi all! you're talking food I like, love brussels sprouts, been eating a lot of them lately, as they seem reasonably priced right now.
we steam almost all our veggies. yum!
Jilli, I think you can get them in the can--not sure since I never buy them
*pats rbub, gently* there, there dear it will pass. lol
we had them at home and I hated them
not here,pug!
*rbud*
Hi again
hi liz
Hi again Liz
we also love something called "hudsapote" (sp?) - it's potato, cabbage, ham, and onions cooked down until it's like thick potato soup - very tasty.
hey again, liz
Has anyone been doing this grid? I haven't -- it's just been nice to chat.
oooohhh, rbud. sounds yummy.
I still don't have either of the 8's, both re-words?
somewhat Jilli but Ive been talking too
jilli, a couple of curly ones, but all in all it's quite good.
I've still got a lot of words left!
Well, I really am going to head for bed -- and a happy Columbus DAy to you in the usa
Sleep well Jilli :)
yeah Rose has them all---she only talks when she has her fws-lol
(oops -- hit the wrong key there!)
ty, jilli, and good night.
night Jilli

Yay! Just found the French exercise book - well remembered that it's accepted.
night flosey
Good night Flosey. Sleep well :)
thaks pugs and liz
Rose, can you please clue the fo 7 / 48 again - not getting that one!
fo + word that rhymes with sooth s****
ty Dianne - didn't have the fo 5 - but your clue helped.
glad you got it
yay, dianne. thanx for stepping up to the mark
hi rose - glad to see that you are sleeping better.
And now I understand your clue Rose. Sorry for being slow!
awww, thanx dianne. sleep is so important to our well-being.
have been having problems with eyes all day...can't seem to focus properly. maybe this virus....it seems to be a problem ...muscle control bad.
Oh Rose! :(
Don't leave that if it continues tomorrow.
liz, np's. and thanx for your sympathy.
Sorry - I know you're sensible about medical things.
liz, have appointment with doctor tomorrow. she is pretty concerned with DH and myself...this virus seems to go on for ever.
I hope the doc comes up with something useful.
It's about time you had some good health!
so do i,hun. so do i. and mother mac is STILL on i.v. antibiotics.
That's tough but it's still respite for you.
She sounds like she's a strong one.
yeah...liz....for which we are truly grateful.
How old is she?
mother mac? 94. my mother is 87..
That's fantastic. You're lucky to still have your mothers.
How is your mother now - she wasn't too well last week.
her he5 is strong. my mother is back in the nursing home. she expects to have her cataract operation next friday.
Cataract op will revolutionise her life!
yeah, liz...after mother mac's surgery she was amazed at how bright colours were.
I guess you don't realise that colours are fading until it's too late.
yeah. mother mac thought her rug was a brown colour. she came home after her surgery and was amazed to see it was green with a rose pattern in it.
I was looking at the trees today and remembering how someone said that they hadn't seen individual leaves before they got glasses. Much the same thing.
Rose, did you hear from Sprite yesterday? I wrote her twice and she never answered
hmm. pugs?? i saw her on babble, but that's all.
hi all
Hi Joso
Hi ya Joso
how is the world treating you all
Good as ever he4 - bet you're all getting sick of me saying that!
And you?
Im doing fine and you?
I don't mind liz, boring but preferable
I have a very lucky life living here.
Rose has all the drama-lol
glad you are good pug, I am well but one of my brothers has a grief, his companion died yesterday
Oh! That's really sad - was it expected?
I have all the q words but q520--could I have a clue please
sad to hear that Joso
qu 5 / 20 - a question
yes, knew that some time this year, barring miracle, he would pass
Poor guy! Your brother must be in an awful state.
Has he got a good supportive group around him?
Change the last letter of the last qu5/16
when I spoke to him he seemed in shock. there was a dinner party he was hosting and was continuing with that.
ty Maisie - gave me the missing qu 5 / 16
condolences to him - not that he knows me. Doesn't matter if you expect death, it's still so hard when it happens.
tyvm guys
I think it helps, but still not the best of things
I guess his partner had been ill for a while - so possibly the dinner party was the most supportive thing he could do in the circumstances and probably his partner would've wanted that.
It seemed to me he was just in robot mode, but said the couple coming over where good friends, so it seemed best to let it be, I'm sure they will understand if the taters are burned or raw. and company is sounded like a good thing
Being around friends helps.
Got to go - early dinner. Hubby off to a meeting tonight. tough time for you too I guess ,Joso, so special hugs :)
Might see you later - hugs to all :)
yea, Wish I could be there, he is about 8 hours away
hey joso. sorry to he4 the news of your brother.too sad.
bye liz, enjoy
after the flip, liz. xoxox
bye Liz
tnx rose, was expected but still sad, hope he weathers it well.
so do i, dear
How long were they together
7 years, also sad, bro finally found someone
so pug says you have drama too rose
yeah joso. knee playing up..surprise, surprise. i think that's what she is alluding to.
Joso, does your brother live in canada too
No, I am refuring to that Rose has drama ALL the time! lol
swelled up even more, are you afraid a little baby alien will pop out?
Rose are you still wearing the brace
yes pug, he lives in kingston, other end of lake ontario but still on the Canada side
Its more than the knee with her Joso--they got some kind of virus too
and besides the knee and virus she is having eye problems too
oh, did the DH's med test results come back
and the way it sounds shes not far from being bed ridden
I'll red back a bit
*read
knee not comfy in snug cloths. well moving away from well rather than towards it, but doesn't sound dire, of course rose could be just stiff upperlipping it.
You think?
sounds painful, and a bother, worth going to doc about but as she has doc appointment anyway...
she must of fell asleep over the keyboard
or someone phoned, it's around 2 in the afternoon there
aww you two...so amazing to have friends like you. sorry, was away inhaling dinner. am waiting to he4 from workcover people. supposed to see an independent ortho surgeon on the 22nd.
was wondering what happen to you. Missed you
Back from dinner. Hubby out. Time to babble.

our temps are to drop into the 30's this coming week end
Keep warm pugs
It would have to be a school bus for me
might have to turn on the furnace :(
Un5 pls
it's about time things cooled off, I love sleeping under a pile of blankets. Haven't had the need to turn on the heat yet.

And I had the fan on last night!
Cooler tonight though.
I run my fan all year around

pugs...re fan??? so do i.... my skin burns...and you?
I need fresh air
My feet burns, cant stand them covered
even if I got to sit with coat and hat and gloves, I got to have fresh air--lol
In the winter, my dogs wont come in my bedroom because its so cold
lol...me too pugs...my father always slept with his feet out of the covers. used to make my mum laugh...
we have so much in common its funny
nah...sisters under the skin are we....
if I get cold, its my upper arms--just below the shoulders
my back and tummy get so hot....i have to strip off the jammies...DH says, so near and yet so far.. he can feel the heat radiating from me.
lol--You are a hot woman!
*chuckling* oh yeah....
Have you always been like that
I cant stand wearing heavy clothes going anywhere cause I get too hot in most places
nope. started about 30 years ago. well the hot feet have always been there...but the overheated of the rest of me...yeah. heavy clothes...too much for me...
everybody gripes about how cool the house is in the winter but we dont hardly have any colds here. The coolness keeps germs down quite a bit
rose could you please clue the oo word
pugs, oo5, oo + **s*, go upwards
ty grannyrose
ty rose

Phantom: hellzapoppin
lol.good morning everyone.reading back on your comments granny & puglet.it is same with me.i keep the house at 60f in the winter because i overheat so badly.for me most of the winter it is a t-shirt and light jacket unless it is really howling with a blizzard then i will add a sweater and a thin windbreaker.my beloved spends her entire winter complaining at me,but i buy her lots of nice sweaters fleece jammies.herating pad and whatnot
her best part about the new jeep i think is that it has heated seats:)
Heated seats are the best!
duct tape a heating pad around your posterior
she loves them.they can be set individually and there is a low and high setting for each.will be good for me as well.no longer will i roast on long trips.i will just turn her seat to high and let her cook
Our temps have dipped to high 50's in morning so I'm back in long pants and a jacket to take Rufus to the dog park on the golf cart, but the snowbirds love it.
she dreams of roasting on some tropical beach and i dream of those arctic cruises where they crawl all over icebergs
we are 5-10c now or high 30,s low 40s in american
had a few hard frosts already and all the cider presses are going full steam:)))
I was raised in Alaska so I was adapted like you to the cold. But then we moved to Arizona and my blood got thinned out, now I don't deal so well with being cold.
my brother is like that now, mubner.he now lives in Nevada and he dies if it drops below 70f
Yup
one thing he is still stunned over even after 3 years is how they almost give handguns away with very little checking or training.you think with everyone armed that way they would not have shut the us government down to avoid working on health care for all would you? lol
lol.he now has 3 handguns
The shutdown, what an embarrassment.
canada loves you ,mubner but omg what were they thinking?
it was not even full universal health care.the preez was just trying to bring you half way.kind of like how our old OHIP system used to be
Both sides are so deeply entrenched that I wonder if they will ever be able to agree. I don't understand why everyone hates the health care program
for examole i had two dr appts last week and am scheduled for a ct scan this week.no long wait.i do not have to pour over insurance doccuments to see if i am covered.i do not have to rent a room in my house to pay for it
it boggles the rest of us who have it
help with ha7 pls
I'm past needing health coverage but if I was younger, with a family I would probably be more involved
Thinking? Very difficult to find an association representatives
How much do you pay for health care, crossy?
an association with ...
i do not pay as you guys pay, bzz. EVERYONE is covered and everyone working and paying taxes, pays for health care at tax time
gm, everyone. stats for the lone O first row?
My brother has a close Canadian friend (Edmonton) that says your system isn't so great, like he has very long waits for regular health care, so he says we are headed down into the darkness with Obamacare. lol
oo 5/10
i do not wait.
ty, o-o
it is far from perfect but when we need something looked at we get it done
When I was younger with a family I would have loved to have that kind of health care
we just all pay at tax time because everyone is going to need health care at some point.right?
And there's the rub...The insurance companies are going to make sure they make a huge profit on this. Hubs is covered under medicare + retirement health plan. It will cost over $500. a month to cover me.
True. I prefer alternative health care, don't have alot of respect for doctors and the "system"
we do not have insurance companies or emplyers in the loop.unless it is an added thing over and above the basic universal care
And because of the changes to health coverage, my husband's great health coverage is becoming mediocre.
we pay the govt, they give us health care.scary eh? lol
Mubner, I was married to a Canadian and he said the same thing about their health care as your friend did.
Oh, Molly, maybe it's different for Crossy because he is on the eastern side and John was in Alberta??
Don't know, my husband lived in Ontario.
and our govt is open for business:P when we heard of universal health care coming, you would of got ruined in the rush of all of us signing up
Thanks for the oo5, o-o.
my brother says they are overloading the system in NV to sign up even though i think it does not actually take effect till new year
I don't think they are overloading the system to sign up. I think they are overloading the system trying to figure out how the changes will effect them.
My guess is that there are very few people signing up yet.
well.it is interesting as heck watching it all unfold that is for sure.
I think the bigger picture is the black president that is trying to help poor people and those with money and power don't like that one little bit.
Yes Bea, not many people understand how it will work.
they still play the race/colour card, mubner. odd
Or what it will cost or how it will affect the quality of our health care.
i would not care if my prez was green with yellow stripes as lonmg as he gets us good health care
But do you think it is because he is black? Isn't he following the Democratic platform?
Yes Bea, it's more of a Democrat vs Republican thing.
I believe so too, Molly.
well, molly,so far they nays have closed your government so that is not working too well anyways.
The "nays" are not the only ones responsible for the government shut down.
it is so wild.rest of the world is still trying to figure it out along with you
If Congress were not getting paid or benefits through this shut down, things would get settled a lot quicker.
the top movers and shakers will always get paid.they write the rules
need help with 7's.I have ha, qu and wh.
Joe The Plumber: 'Wanting A White Republican President Doesn't Make You Racist,' It 'Makes You American'
I agree, Congress is where the program is and its all wrapped up in money. The ideal would be that Congress worked for free and did not receive health care or life time pensions
so to be american you must have a white prez?
oops, meant "Problem"
The true cost and impact of a big plan such as this, can only be realized after it goes into effect. I am leery of the government being in control of anything, especially my health care options.
you can rest assured that before they shut it all down that they rammed throuhg a CYA bill to keep them getting paid, along with the military budget
Peri - I also have fo7
ty Chris, looking
Well said Molly, look at the post office, Ibelieve 16 billiondollarsin debt.
i hear that a lot molly.are the insurance companies running it preferrable to having the govt run it?
post office is not a government entity
if you cannot trust them to run it,then you better clean house
ty Chris for fo7, I already had the base word too :(
ddIt certainly is. Fedex is private, UPSisprivate, Postofficeis run and subsidized by the US government.
Gee, I guess if we all lived in a perfect country like Canada we would all be happy and healthy.
we hare not perfect.do not descent to that level.i see that a lot as well
either you trust them to run it,or get a govt that can and get everyone covered
First N stats please?
The USPS has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s with the minor exception of subsidies for costs associated with the disabled and overseas voters.
i have to may friends in the us waiting for a condition to become serious enough to meet some sort of criteria.that is wrong. but we can go to puppies and kitties of you wish, molly

un5/16
hello scrabs
bbl
I am waiting for a patient to show up. So far the 8 and 8:30 appts have "no-showed."
hi scrabbler
Somehow I will cope with the help of Babble.
Scrabs, what is the office policy on no-shows?
stats for the A on the 4th column please?
au4/5
re6.18?
We call the parents of "no-shows." And if they arrive 15 or more minutes late we typically reschedule the appt UNLESS it is a sick/injured kid. We cannot punish a kid for a parent's lack of responsibility.
bzz i have one au 4/5 already
extend that for a 5/16 MLF
In our private office we dismiss chronic no-showers. Here at the Indian Reservation Health Ctr we do not dismiss anyone.
af5/16
i have that as well nonon

Grrrr, the past tense of ea4 (with a t) isn't accepted...
and happy thanksfiving to all in canada.
((smores)) Wow--2 days in a row!
cruise was great, scrabby you can see pics and three short vid clips if you go to my picture site: crossy.smugmug.com then select browse then click on picture of boat and you can scroll through the picutres.click on last three vid clip slide to avtivate them
Hubz is off today (Columbus day...what a farce), anyway, he wants to stain the deck. not my idea of fun, but what the heck.
:D Mimi
Hi, Scrab!!
<----hates Columbus Day ....grrr...
I will do that later, Cross.
cool
((crossy))...a cruise! Nice.
have a great day/evening everyone. grid isn't too bad, not like yesterday's
threw in a nice picture of mr and mrs crossy:)
tc lbd
((mimi))
bye dawg :)
I think Columbus Day should no longer be a holiday. It shows such disrespect for Native Americans.
agree completely Scrab
we took all your land and now we will party to celebrate it?
we all share the blame
if we really want to be there for the native americans let give them back land! i dont see anyone doing that.
And I am at the Indian Reservation Health Ctr now, as I am every Monday.
my godmother is first nations.they are a beautiful people
how can someone get lost, land on already inhabited land and get credit for discovering it???? beyond ridiculous
Agreed, Smores.
spain and portugal spend hundreds of years dividing up the planet
smores, you must write that up somewhere and get it out to all.
Morning all.
howdy glant
Hi Glantarell
<----spent several Columbus Days in the principals office
Schools here are always closed on Columbus Day.
really?? not here
it is our thanksgiving so our schools are closed
Actually, both the vikings and the Welsh landed in what iis now north america 6 or 7 hundred years before it was 'discovered' by the spanish LOL
our schools are open in DC area. the govt is closed. what a joke that is now.
this is quite true.glant
Some schools also get the Friday before off too, for a 4-day weekend.
yep
Yes, Glant
my husband is "essential" so it at the hospital anyway. he works and doesnt get paid while most employees dont work and will get paid. stupid stuff. curse congress. wake up guys. obama care passed and let it lie.
I "protested" every year in school...lol
Our politicians should be ashamed.
i wasnt for it but it is there so give it up and get the govt going.
Yes, they should be very ashamed. They should also be the ones not getting paid
i started a war this morning so i will not get into how they shut the govt down to avoid health care for all:)
boggles the mind
congress should not be paid! hey, lets try that one on. lets lead a protest to take away the congresses wages if they cant come to an agreement. how about it?
Yup
I don't understand your politicians at all. Surely there are times when the governance of the country should be put before party politics?
Isn't that what they were eleceted for?
one would think so Giant
what bothers me the most is the thought that anyone in congress can add to a bill what they dont like so they close the govt down.
Egos get in the way of reason.
well said ,glant
also it bothers me all who say obama care with bankrupt the country. who pays for these uninsured now? we all do! they go to ER's and must be taken. and so we all pay more for our care because of it. so i dont get the whole objection to obama care.
agree mkg
any clues for the o word top row?
oo5/10
seems last time you had to restart your govt when this happened in the early 90,s it cost 7 billion dollars..should of stayed open and put that money to health care
I wish it wasn't called ObamaCare. Call it something else.
Yes, Cross.
call it the ACA
Living in a country where we pay compulsory health insurance to the government, deducted from pur salary, i don't get the objection either. At least i know that if i am sick i can get treated without worrying about whether i can afford to get treated.
Yippee, a patient finally showed up. I will have to leave soon.
affordable care is best. did you see the you tubes where they ask people which is best, obama care or affordable care and they all say affordable care? so many stupid people.
it is same here, glant.we pay our tax and get treat.period everyone is covered.period
morning all, could I get a clue for the second RE8 please
Hi Buttonman
hi Scrabbler
Re & run if you're a harse
Not sur if that's first or second re8
horse
Darn ipad
as a DR scrabby would you not prefer a single payor vs fighting tooth and nail with dozens of insurance companies?
re+ All men are ***ted equal + pincic pest
I have been researching tablets. How are they for playing timed word games? Anybody know?
i have a asus transformer tablet and i love it scrabby
Yes, Crossy, IF the government could manage it well. Medicare and Medicaid are not well run.
thanks smores, got it

the tabby itself has 8-12 hours
help with the second column E please
Voters have no high ground in the current circumstances:
mouse and kb compatable, usb 2.0 sd and micro sd
In our country effective representative government is crucial. To keep reelecting congressional incumbents that nearly always deserve to be fired is unpatriotic, subversive and antithetical to the ideals of our constitutional republic. This year ten Senators and 42 Representatives are not running for reelection. Odds are that far fewer incumbents will be voted out of office, if historic trends continue. For House elections from 1982 to 2008 only one in three voters did not vote for a winning House representative and 73 percent of House races were won by landslide margins of at least 20 percentage points. The power of incumbency reduces much needed political competition which a healthy democracy requires. If the royalty of incumbency does not stop there is no hope whatsoever of putting the nation on a much better track. It does not matter who is elected president. In the end, if the fractured Congress we have witnessed for years perseveres the US is doomed to join the list of once great global powers that went down the toilet. Flush congressional incumbents out. Now. Or be complicit in the death of American democracy. Stop making excuses, rationalizing. Throw incumbent turds out of office. Even more important than not voting for the challenger or incumbent from the “other†party is not voting for the incumbent of your party, even if it threatens party control of the House or Senate. If you do not help fire Congress, then you deserve to suffer personally from what the federal government does or does not do. Make you voice really heard this year.
TY for advice, Crossy. I have a Nook Color but it just doesn't work well at all with some word games
never mind
now,the infinity is still a tad expensive but the prime and the one before it are both fine machines
Agreed, o-o. We need to critically think about who to elect and re-elect.
Well said o-o, complete agree...get rid of them
ec6-21, e +2 wheel vehicle + repeat start vwl
and remember o-o...how many dead people voyed, how many people were paid to vote more than once, and many precincts had more voters than they had people......off w/ their heads
Crossy, I wish my Nook were more versatile, but it isn't primarily a tablet, rather, is an e-reader.
Hi Renny.
i have a nook HD and it can surf as well but like yours excells as a reader
lol...ec6...online shopping ??
hi scrabs
I was so mad last week I wrote to both senator and rep and told them not to expect to be reelected next time as the American people are fed up and will certainly be throwing out all incumbents. Probably didn't do any good but made me feel better!
they do not care.before they shut down you can be sure they rammed through a cover your ass bills so they continue to get paid
I'd like to see term limits shortened so that we can keep throwing people out until we get some in there who actually will do the job.
if you go to er here, and dont have ins.. u will be taken care of and billed... and do you really think that bill gets paid??
BBS
sad set up it is,ivesy
but i get to pay a $50 co pay up front becuz i have ins.. which i pay for every month.
i have the exact same coverage as the man who has been living on the street for ten years.all workers pay at tax time. our demographic is older we know the value of health care for all
party members are like shareholders ... party leaders seek to maximize profits for their members ... the best interests of the people is never the goal ... maintaining power for members the party prizes trumps all. Expediency is the key. If somehow constituents benefits .... it is through inadvertence
that is why we live with $5.20 a gallon gas as 12 dollar smokes etc etc.need the tax revenues
ding everyone on the sin taxes
reading back into chat - was curious what sort of war you started, crossy. want to let you know that here, in alberta, there is a seven month wait for an mri. and for those who are not familiar with our plan, the social medical coverage does not cover things like insulin, eyeglasses, medications, prostheses, cpap machines, those things that are considered 'incidentals' - they system is far from perfect. and, in victoria, bc, it took 18 months of waiting before my father in law received surgery for an aortic aneurysm - i swear the govt was hoping he'd just die before the surgery
That's one reason I'd like to see shorter terms so perhaps we could keep shaking up the status quo.
I would gladly pay that to prevent people from having to choose between food and their medicine..
it is far from perfect.i wait a few days for CT and 2 weeks for MRI
but we get treated
and, as we've talked of before when you bring up gun control, each state has different rules and regs. it's pretty easy to get a gun up here, too, same as the states, if you know the "right" people - and please don't forget the gazillion dollar failed federal gun registry program up here
that's in ontario - the health care systems are provincial. you can praise ontario's system to the heavens, but folks in alberta and bc are dying
My congressional delegation will not respond to my inquiries .... the largest daily in my state will not publish my letters to the editor .... Those who control communications control the agenda
four months for my girlfriend to get diagnosed with breast cancer - shameful.
eeek..didn't know that welki
meanwhile, there are politicians and their families jumping the queue to access medical care faster than us 'regular' folks - another shameful practice
yea, we have some minor flaws in our system welkie, but nobody looses their house here when someone gets sick, a major illness in the family is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the states.
not sure what the Health care bill will be like here....just upsetting that congress is continuing to be paid during the shutdown
so crossy, my friend, when you speak in generalizations, you're misinforming people about what happens in other parts of canada and the united states. your brother might have three handguns, but in another state, someone might have to show proof of a safety course and waiting period
Perhaps narcissists and psychopaths do not appreciate being told they do not have the capacity to manage a box of rocks.
lol :D
people lose their houses to sickness related debt in alberta, joso
how
halfway, NBT and NBS - time to go run some errands
My time is unfortunately up....wonderful "seeing" you all. Happy to be back babbling. Have a great day everyone.
when they can't afford their expensive medications or medical equipment, houses get re-mortgaged, but the expenses don't stop, they just keep mounting and, eventually, you lose your home
good to have u back again smores
Bye, smores...big hug.
The US is past the tipping point ... I am embarrassed to be an American .... The Americans who care do not know what to do ... the majority try to ignore what is going on and hope it goes away
does your provincial health program cover things like heart medication, insulin or anti-rejection drugs?
maybe that happens once or twice, is it the leading cause of bankruptcy
no one said it was the leading cause of bankruptcy, just that people lose their homes here, just like in the states, due to medical related debt
my point is, simply, that there is no earthly paradise.
covers insulin and other diabetes medication, don't know about the rest
not in alberta, joso
Letterman said of the shutdown .... how does one tell the difference?
you need blue cross/blue shield or another supplementary coverage for medications, even ones that your life depends on
no, our system has flaws, said that already, but we don't have insurance companies withholding payment because they figure the client will die before their claim crawls through the courts.
apparently now china is calling for a "new world order" because congress has imperilled the global economy
well that's just great
except when you keep an 80 year old man waiting a year and a half for a critical cardiac surgery. it's the generalizations that are killing me - there are ALWAYS exeptions - and to say that "we don't have insurance companies...." speaks volumes. what do you think bc health care is? not only a provider, but an insurer.
and really, does it matter who keeps someone who requires surgery from the procedure on which their life depends? insurer/health care provider - dead is dead.
do you really think it is better in the states welki?
as a dual citizen, who has participated on both sides, i'd say it's a toss up.
i would agree - we both have good points and bad points
and i'm not joking - there are pros and cons to both
but the thing about health care is - as you said earlier - no such thing as an earthly paradise - there are always going to be limitations. you can't provide ALL the care for ALL the people ALL the time, esp as technology keeps advancing and we pour so much money into that. and do we really want it to be that what determines who gets it is how rich you are? i'm more ok with it being that if i'm 80 i may not get something, you know, having already lived a good long life, if it means like 50 children are getting nutrition or preventative care instead. hard as it is, there will always have to be resources directed somewhere instead of somewhere else.
americans are particularly bad about facing hard truths like that - and particularly susceptible to panic over "death panels".
I'm amazed. remember i have said a few times our system is not flawless, but we may have a bankruptcy or 2, verses the leading cause for bankruptcy, costing 50% more and covering 25% less, these are huge differences
agreed, hurshy - that makes sense from one perspective. the other being, let's say i'm 80 and waiting for that surgery. i've paid into the system (yes, some provinces charge(d) premiums - so the notion that it's not 'insurance' fails there) for over 60 years - this is my first major surgery - aren't i entitled to value/product for my money?
Americans have become habituated with political corruption and greed. Gun-related deaths (86 a day) is now considered unfortunate collateral damage necessary to ensure the right to bear arms. Yet, there is less outrage over the gutting of fourth amendment by the NSA with the support of the Administration and Congress. The oath of office of our purported representatives gets violated daily with impunity.
remain amazed, joso. i'm not arguing about the leading cause of bankruptcy, i understood what you were saying and was not directing my comments towards you, but rather to crossy (we do this on a regular basis).
were you entitled to the luck that meant you grew up in a stable secure family with plenty of food and a safe neighborhood? were you entitled to be white? were you entitled to the luck that meant you didn't have a health crisis before you were 80? entitled is a hard concept.
when i think of the 20% Americans who will not be approved for healthcare coverage under the new tax law....i think "soylent green"
devil's advocate would tell you that i'm a two war veteran who did not enjoy the sensation of feeling safe for most of my adult years (that would be my father in law) - but i get your point, hursh.
hey renny!! soylent green - ohhh, not so yummy
when i said "you" of course i didn't literally mean you i meant this hypothetical 80 year old :)
i know :)
i know welki...youse guys gets us chemo filled pellets for grub
any clues for the u words?
Whose numbers are those, ren? "tax law" is quite telling.
un5, u + nil, nothing, none
un4, un + 2
ty got both
anyways, said what i thought needed saying, let's be thankful that columbus made a wrong turn and for this canadian thanksgiving
reem
sorry
a town hall meeting o-o discussing the tax law
mm soylent green:)) and yes i do generalize a tad over the hand guns
As I have said before ... I do not care about labels ... those who put party politics ahead of the best interests of constituents in my view should be voted out of office. The Federalist Papers were concerned about political parties for the reasons that have come to pass.
i think, sometimes crossy, that you're just a wee bit of a $hit disturber :)
If it comes from a town hall meeting than talking points are on the agenda. Is there an independent group that concurs?
during the inquisition, my ancestors left spain - some sailed w/ columbus....that is how he was willingly given a crew and ships - to get us Jews outta spain
well my brother syas they amost give them away in texas.i am sure other states are much tighter in their requirements
yes o-o, it was open forum, stats were presented - we all participated
HI All. heavy subjects today.
i thought you said he's in arizona or nevada
And Renny's here!

health care and hand guns.hego.i think we will let religion be or the chat will explode
right Crossy.

the eary mornings are a pain though
I have no faith in our representatives
early
everyone talks about huner and poverty and lack of education. i worked for what i have and i am proud yet well aware of my obligation to help others come up. i think each person who has should be asking herself what can i do to help?
oh crossy and here i mentioned the inquisition...strike that
i'm w/ ya on that o-o
lol
well said TO
I didn't expect the Spanish inquisition!
as opposed to:what can the government do?
NOBODY expects the spanish inquisition! :D
Very true TO
hego - i said it....going back a wee bit
get over the old"i am ok,why should i pay for him with my taxes?" and you are on your way
lol somebody got it.
Renny, it's an old monty Python routine.
one of monty's bet bits
lol,the inqusition was dissagreeable.cut the supply of good whiskey for months!
one of my fellow dancers had that t shirt on last week
and mel brooks 'history of the world'
really!
whenever i think of monty all i can hear in my mind is the song every sperm is sacred that one where they are all singing while nailed to the cross
Life of Brian, i think.
hego/renny, have you been introduced? hego, renny is probably one of the funniest, upbeat babblers you'll ever run into - raucous, especially when she teams up with nut (who hasn't been around for a long time) - renny, hego is a beautiful person, inside and out, who has a wickedly dry (and sometimes naughty) sense of humor
lol ty welki, we have met here and there.
Well, I am quite dim and concrete ... even during a cement shortage ... I truly am moved that your outhouse has not.
there we go. monty python.nice safe topic:)) well their idea of organ donation isd not safe but you get the idea
i think of nudge nudge, know what i mean, know what i mean

a few weeks ago, my thumb was slammed in a door at work....my thumb nail is now starting to come off and the new nail growing out.....other than duct tape (which i may need to use) is there any other medical tape to try? i've used self adhesive, adhesive tape, paper tape, every band-aid made, and some kind of coach tape.....anyone, anyone???
yvw flosey, crossy
eekk...sorry ren no clue
what are you trying to do? is it catching on everything?
sure is crossy....little jagged edges
if it is still very sore,go to pharmacy and ask for some adaptec guaze,it is medicated gauze that goes under a bandage and it does not stick
you can cut the adaptec to size
then a light dressing
i have the gauze - tape will not hold it - i currently have a 2" piece of tape flapping in the breeze
sounds very painful ren - good idea crossy, I've never heard of adaptec
how about a finger cot? it's made of either gauze or synthetic - looks like a thimble
then get a metal finger split to wear as needed
Un5 pls
that makes good sense - protects it from being banged around, too, a splint
a ha! i have finger cots - thanks!
finger cots!! i love it:))
<-- is always cutting, breaking, spraining, tearing something
that is good as well
and i will get a metal splint to wear when i am not at work - will work great on the space bar
my wife had to have her big toenail removed-twice so we went all through that

lol
what can i tell you? it is the testoserone:)
I never did see that 3rd video crossy.... I can still see the photos, so did you remove the videos on the smugmug site ?
they are the last 3 slides diane.if you look in the bottom left of each slide you will see where it is designated with either a picture or video icon
let me verify it is all still up
thanks... I forgot that step. I'll also let you know
yup they are all there
and the vid clip still is slightly longer in length than the till shot
stills
good video and your panning is just fine.... didn't make me dizzy at all !! I loved the sound of the water.
i am glad you enjoyed it diane.they will be up for 8 more days or so for those who want to look..or print of a still of me for their dart board lol
haha.... already "snuck" your picture for my rogue's gallery..... no darts, I promise!
that is well:)
caroon
i will be using this as a site to sell my prints in the future once i bring the good camera out.as it so happens there is interest for picture #4 to end up in a brochure next year
That's great !
we may play with it and see
one note on pic 4 re: the dock bumpers.at one time there was a fleet of 25 of these vessels doing mail service to the north and i see in a few of the old pics that they used to tie them in "nests or 3 or 4 boats at night or to do mail transfers and those large bumpers came in handy then.poor segwun. her sisters are long gone. the second last one burned at the pier in the late 60,s. Now we must keep the old lady company
I've always thought that ships had a soul :-)
the Winona of course was not part of the original group and was built in the 20,s
winona2*
ship??oh yes.very much so
this vessel was sailing for 25 years before the RMS titanic even was launched from her cradle.she has a real prescence
she got 2 new engines in 1907 and 1911 lol
I'm seeing it as Wenonah.... ??? which to me sounds like a native word.
yes, that is her newer sister ship the wenona 2
but more like a cousin than any of the true sisters she lost
i do not have a pic of her at that time but the Segwun was a side paddle wheeler till 1925
she was known as the Nippissing at that time
if you go here: http://tinyurl.com/mfq4bk2 you can see a pic of her in 1893 with her side wheel still on
note the bumpers used now as then
I was just browsing google images ... some interesting pictures.
she has come a long way
found the 1893 picture... interesting that they advise that the image is public domain and the reasons why :-)
the mrd and i sent ourselves keepsake postcards from onboard since she is still a registered mail shipwih the canadian government and carries her own cancellation stamp
a nice keepsake of the day!
indeed;)
can you imagine?beingon one of those islands in the 1880,s or 90,s you meet the lail ship, get your supplies for the month, drop 2 letters on board for your sister who lives in barrie(2 hours away) the ship spends the weekdoing it,s route, offloads at gravenhurst, the mail train comes in and off it goes by steam train to your sister.spends a day or 3 in the sorting house in barrie then it is on to the stage coach mail serives and then your sister gets it..about a month later lol
service
not unlike some of our modern service LOL
lol
now, now.canada post is not THAT bad
you know I was kidding !!.... just a tad.
lol
and I am finished ! It's time to drain the turkey stock as it's been simmering most of the day.... smelling wonderful.
i have my roast beast in oven as we speak:)
Talk to you soon, bye for now crossy.
tc, diane
I won't be using this today... I cool and skim but this turkey was not too rich, so not too much fat to worry about. See you !!

Soodle, dear...so glad I stayed a bit longer....have missed you!
Hi Mimi. Just checked Netflix ..... The Evening Star hasn't made it this side of the pond yet.
How are you, Mimi?
Hope it gets there soon. Also, For Love of the Game" is excellent with a great soundtrack. One of the songs "Come Around" when Kevin Costner is looking up at Kelly Preston's window IN THE RAIN is a song I used to sing onstage. The score is wonderful.
I'm doing very well, Soodle, thank you. Finally past most of the crises and just very grateful to have made it through and able to enjoy life again.

Hey Lynn. :-)
Hello, lynxxx!! So good to see you!
hi Mimi - enjoying the cooler weather yet?
Soodle, I think I'm just so stubborn that my personality kicks in and just says "Hey, I'll be damned if I'll let life beat me!"
Loo
Yes, lynx...finally lovely here. Mid 80s during the day and cool in the mornings and evenings. This is when everyone wants to be here.
That was supposed to be LOL. Loo is a better word for me right now!!
Won't hear me complain about weather again until April or May.......relief for all.
sorry guys, I got distracted!
and yes, babble is happening in Honduras... at least with me! But I tend to live in different countries every year, so it's not necessarily spreading as much as it's just going with me where i go :)
hey mimi :)
Rows! I just wrote my son an email about you yesterday. He wants to be an English professor and I told him about your adventures.
ooh cool
Hello Rows. Nice to meet you. :-)
does he want to teach English literature/reading/writing to native speakers, or English as a Second Language / Foreign Language?
hi soodle :)
nice to meet you too
My mother (who was really my grandmother) encouraged me to go and do and be adventurous and I DID....I'll always be grateful to her for that. So, I'm trying to do the same for my children.
awesome, yes
it is worth every second
Rows, I think his first love is literature but I think the opportunity to experience different cultures and see how much language influences life experience would be invaluable to him.
Whoa! Mother really grandmother???? Explain
yeah, and he could get a job teaching English lit at an international school, if he has certification in the States
there are tons of international schools abroad that would like to hire him i'm sure
i.e. my school when the school year is over... though my school pays next to nothing since i'm in Honduras
Ready for this, Soodle? My bio mother left when I was 5 and my paternal grandmother and her 4th husband raised me. I didn't know I was actually biologically related to her until I was 22...and she was already gone. Just another part of my book...honestly, my life reads like fiction but it's all true.
wait, so you thought you were just adopted by random people?
Oh, yeah, I was raised with my biological father as my brother...
what!
that's ridiculous
Yikes!
why wouldn't they just tell you?
Yes, I was told I was picked out at the hospital. Get this...the bio father sort of made a pass at me when I was 16....he was so icky.
omg
mimi! that is insane and terrible
Aaaarrrggghhh
i'm so glad you still turned out okay
Don't know why they didn't tell me but kind of glad they didn't. I was raised to feel I was princess of the world and my parents gave me everything a child could ask for, both emotionally and economically. I have an angel on my shoulder.
i cannot even imagine growing up with that and then finding out later that it had all been a lie...
well that's good at least
Met my bio mother and 5 half-brothers and sisters at age 22.......soooo glad I was removed. You cannot even imagine.
wow
The amazing thing to me is that my adoptive father was one of 9 kids and my grandmother was one of 6 and everyone in the family knew the story and no one every told me.
yeah, i mean.. it's great they made you feel loved and all, but i would have a really hard time with having been lied to by everyone my entire life
I was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it's weird that my bio mother and 3 of my siblings now live here in Arizona about 30 minutes away from me. My life is weird.
yeah, obviously
then again so is mine, just in different ways
Rows, I never held it against them. I knew they were only trying to make sure I was loved and cared for and I was---in spades.
okay, well that's good
Up until the fairly recent past in this country, young girls who fell pregnant were sent away to live with relations. They would return after the birth & their own mothers, spectacularly unpregnant in the preceding months would suddenly have a new baby! Confusing for all.
Imagine my adoptive father who was not in any way biologically related to me but doted on me completely and loved me beyond belief.
Nice they kept you in the family Mimi. My father was given away (no adoption)and taken to Australia as a small child and didn't find out until he was in his sixties - yes all the adoptive family knew but didn't let on. I think it is not about lying so much as just not telling. Times change
Well, Soodle, my bio mother was married to my bio father (brother) but he was a total jerk and she was just 19 when she had me so I understand to a degree. But when I gave birth to my first child I no longer understood how she could have left me...it was difficult and we were reunited by then.
T
Honestly, my life reads like an unbelievable soap opera in so many ways. That is why when I finally get "the book" written they'll need to film it as a miniseries instead of a movie because there's just SO MUCH to portray.
I think adoption is much more up-front these days. (I hope).
It's fun to tell people I am my own sister and my own aunt...confuses them.
Who is going to play YOU, Mimi?
haha
I was just so fortunate to be rescued and raised by people who were totally devoted to me...what a luxury.
yeah definitely
you never thought it was weird that your mom was "old" or that your brother was so much older than you?
LOL, Soodle. Have actually thought about that! (What an ego I have.) I don't really know.
Search Youtube for 'I'm my own Grandpa' . Quirky little ditty!
Yes, Rows, I knew I was adopted so that explained it. The really weird part (in so may other weird parts) is that my adoptive father (grandfather) was 19 years younger than my mother/grandmother...he was her 4th husband. Anyone need a breather?!
oh geez
so he was basically around the same age as your "brother"?
He was only 6 years older than her son.
Who was my bio father.
Have a search on youtube for Ray Stevens singing 'I'm my own grandpa'. Quirky!
She was an amazing woman...way ahead of her time. She drove a taxi cab, ran a boarding house, taught school, and bootlegged on the Ohio River.
I carried on the tradition of being a bit strange and very independent and am proud of it!
I wear her wedding ring and "sweetheart" ring every day of my life and never take them off. Told my daughter if she wants them, she'll have to take them off my cold dead hands!
that's awesome :)
Sorry for the double post.... But, Mimi, with a heritage like that..... You couldn't be anything but strange!! Viva your strangeness!
And on the other side of the family is Naomi who had a baby 10 years after her husband died...swore it was the longest pregnancy in history. We still don't know who my great-grandfather was.
Thank you, Soodle...yes...I am strange by both heritage and nature...viva la strange! But it helps me feel compassion and empathy for EVERYONE...and I'm grateful for that...could have gone another direction entirely.
Get writing on that book!
As you can imagine, it is a daunting task. My life alone without all the history has been extra ordinary in and of itself...I think I need a ghostwriter to help!
I had considered writing it as fiction but I think it's much more interesting to own up to it as the truth. After all, at my age, what do I care? Just makes me more colorful!
I must go to bed now. Another emotionally & physically exhausting day. I can't wait to read it Mimi. G'night all.
Have a good night, Soodle. So good to talk with you. Hope you will be better and will keep you in my prayers. Big Hug.
night Soodle - sleep tight
I'm going as well. Sorry to monopolize the chog. I so much value each of you...hugs all around.
oh sorry, i was taking a break to write up a facebook event invitation for my swing dancing lesson
sorry i missed you, mimi!

Found a couple more words as I was leaving. Bye, Rows...so good you're back with us.

Hi Min :)
Fireworks - last word ya 5

nice going liz
Congratulations on your fireworks display Lizlin!Way to go!
ty
Lemon meringue pie???
Any clues before I go?
I'll follow Lizlin's lead now and enter my last word for FWs.
It's secret pie.
I am finished! I have fireworks! me 6/24 was my final word
And good morning to you Molly! Or good evening if you prefer!
Congrats Min :)
I couldn't eat secret pie :D
I have to look out for nuts
I'll be here off & on for rest of the nite if clues are needed.
You could if it was your secret - But I'd also be wary of nuts!
love the icon molly LOLOL
Anyone who has seen "The Help" would not eat secret pie either.
I'm def having a grid where I don't know what's being talked about. Last night it was country music!
Min still won't give up what her icon is, so it must be secret pie.
In that case I can make it whatever pie I like and I'll have lemon meringue!
one never puts chocolate on Meringue pie
Chocolate can go on anything
Oh, I didn't know you guys were talking about my icon. It is Kahlua Cheesecake. Discovered it last weekend. So yummy
not on lemons
That also sounds good!
mmmm chocolate asparagus
Not on lemons but on lemon meringue pie - yummy.
ugh

Hello pida 1! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log.
ac, a + motor vehicle + vwl
hi min
it's amazing how much of life we go through on automatic pilot. I decided to do my bit of exercise for the day with a bike ride. I go out and up to the bike and my conscious mind only kicks in when I can't find the spot to put the keys. unconscious mind has registered 'traveling' and reached into pocket, got keys, put in lock... put in lock... put i, get conscious mind, lol
ha!
sounds like your body really didn't want to exercise! ;)
oh, that's always true, really have to make myself do it.
Good evening Min. I didn't realize I had wrote in the erong box. Hi everyone.
good looking dog leslie, and looking very patient about the headgear
hi pida
Hi joso, I was just lurking....Just started the grid

hello all

Hello stidmama! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
Hi 72 Temple Owl!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Hello LeslieAnn!How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
hello Min! welcome to the grid!
it's almost 6 pm here and I am not going to stay awake much longer...
wild weekend?
not really, just couldn't sleep well last night and then an allergic reaction today that now the benadryl has worn off I am exhausted.
you?
i was actually very busy (unusual). Visited my sister to see her run the chicago marathon
I hope she had a good time?
how is the house coming along, stid?
yes! i assume you mean fun, but her course time was also decent - 4:12.
:-) I have the FIRST pieces of wood on the house today! they bolted on the sill plates so they can start building walls... hoping tomorrow!
thanks for asking, TO
LOL that seems like a VERY good time for a marathon!
leslie ann you live in springfield. so do I. Do you work with Vera H in dog rescue? Where are you in communications?
hi roundbarn! i've just moved here recently, haven't updated my bio. i'm not fostering at the moment but am volunteering at the APL.

wow. I really need to lie down. back later if I can. *poof*
good night stiddy!
what brought you to Spfld, L.A.?
Bye stid...take care
firts ca 6,24 please

husband's job. i am still working for the company i worked for in the western chi suburbs
pida, i only have one - the person who checks you out at the supermarket minus an "s"
ty Leslie, that's it
evening all!
hi dan...
lurking....finished this afternoon....
evening pen & dan
can anybody clue the 2nd column E?
spooky
nope, that comes from the top row
there are four ey 4 letter words
e + when you order separately it is ala....
that was it Moll! thanks
molly...i find it hard to look at your image....makes me feel like i have committed a faux pas....
Don't look then Pen, hide from her!! : D
lol....i will have to!
hi everyone!
hi
how are you penquis?
fine,thanks....in and out here....
haven't played in a while
The conundrums of usage ... a la is a preposition ... a lot, like "a little" is an adverb. The latter is said to be two words; the former apparently is one.
Oh Pen, and you were the one worried about making a faux pas. At least you spelled it correctly. : D
ty!....french canadian grandparents on both sides...ten years of french in school....parents spoke french and english at home....so no excuses!
I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm not all that concerned about missing the space between a and la. : D
on menus there is no space...
i am not going to lose sleep over it... ;o)
I was not being judgmental ... informative for those who might care.
did you notice that i now have a flag?... :oD
no problem, o-o....is your image from one of Dick's books?
No that I am aware of.
it's cool...
And it matches up with the quote
yes, interesting...
i am too lazy to change my image....what i have now is going to stay... it's a pick of my plastic puppet, Kai....
Solipsism
um....ok
FW's Nite all
congrats....g'nite
heading out also...g'nite...
whoo pida
hi all
*taps the microphone*
hi jmc
*climbs into hot tub buck nekkid*
oops. . . thought i was alone! haha
hi joso
nice view jmc
well it was better a lot of ye**s ago! haha
anyone know what the oo5 word means?
maybe, but a lot of years ago I was offered a lot more to compare to.
hehe
oo5, pearl oyster, oo + no***ga; ex central american dictator
ty i had found the word but enable had no definition
nbt
think it is related to ourie
i try (and sometimes succeed) at learning a new word from the grid from time to time
hi ru
shabby
hi jm
*turns the bubbles up in the hot tub*
but not shabby chic
are those the jets are you just being frisky JM?
my all time favorite word i have learned from the grid is zarf
definitely jets
LOL
just checkin
zarf has two definitions. . . one is the metal basket like thing that holds a glass cup especially on a ship. . .
I like doit
the other definition is an annoying male. . . .
toit is good too :-)
i had a secretary that kept a wooden round toit on her desk. ..
did she have any tattoos?
no . . .she had 10 children though. . . and it was like in all the books and movies and tv shows. . .
she came to work for us after she got out of prison. . .
oh.. I was hoping for toits for tats :D
hehe
ten children? jesus
nope he had nothing to do with it. . .
can't have spent too long in prison if she had 10 kids
oh the 10 children were all long before the prison sentence. . .
how can someone have that many kids.. it's ridiculous
my hubby was her attorney for an embezzlement charge
that's nothing, nowadays some have 10 with one birth
oh .. I bet she embezzled
well here youngest child was only about 10 years younger than me. . . it was a different time
Well.. I occasionally see the octo "mom" on the TV and she's absolutely nutso
technically she embezzled. . .but she actually was working at an relief agency and she just cut through red tape for people. . .
she was basically a good woman. . . i was her first white friend ever. . .
basically a good person can still land you in prison.. :D
unfortunately true. . . i can think of a few cases wh*** i knew that had happened. . .
well fun as this is i must wander off to bed. . . *grabs a towel*
towel?
well i don't want to have to blind yourself after seeing me in my sagging birthday suit. . .
oh...
btw happy thanksgiving joso. . . and all my canadian friends
spoil sport
nude babbling
who knew
tnx jmc ;)
more like nude bubbling. . .
bye all. . .see you soon. . .
bye jm.. nice to say hi

awesome, stid!!! Yay!
Let's see how it goes tomorrow... LOL

Too many Es and not enough Ss.
I just got to nbt and nbs myself. Bedtime soon.
also, sue... pics of the sill plate on my foundation -- went on today. Piles of lumber next to the house. I might get WALLS soon!!!!
so glad to hear progress is being made, stid!

later sue -- have a wonderful week!
it is way cool to walk through a framed house, first time you can imagine the house full scale
