your thundering dogs remind me of something ruby. I the middle of the night we were frequently awakened by a thundering sound. we would get up and investigate and but not find anything. this went on for months, we started to speculate about ghosts. then one night I go to the bathroom and one of the cats is sitting in the tub. As i attend to things he starts running laps, running fast enough to go up on the sides of the tub like the cycle cage riders at the carny. Made a tremendous thundering sound.

our leaves are just about all down, we don't get the spectacular fall colors you get back east, not enough water here to sustain trees that have substantial sugar in their leaves
We are well past "peak" colors here and most of the leaves have fallen. But just 15-30 miles north, where my family and friends live, there are still many gorgeous reds.

well the table was a funny thing.was a nice early 40,s solid wood table with 4 mission chairs. then one day we dropped an entire box of the wifes blue willow dish set!!...

so i got the router and made a depression in the table top about 3/4 inch deep with an edge of about 4 inches all around and fillet it with grout and inlaid the dish chips and made it all smooth and level and put a sealer on it.looks very nice

Many bigger places are aware of issue and scanners can do it both ways, by magnetic strip or chip. The chip makes counterfitting much more difficult

People in the northern States travel across the Canadian border to shop all the time. It seems odd that the card thing would be so prohibitive.
sorry, had to run out with message for hubby, jilly -if you're still here, we have had so many of our cards compromised - even here on SSI - hubby's was twice - just a nuisance having to wait for new numbers, etc, but the company covered all losses
before we had chip cards, we opened a euro account with an hsbc Paris branch -- all arranged through out local branch.
It probably depends on the bank -- visa, mastercard and american express cards shouldn't be a problem.
