mini cook = cooking as little and as simply as possible. Tonight was frozen fish cakes and buttered lima beans, with some Stoneleigh sauv blanc. Dessert was a kiwi and a slice of thawed chocolate bundt cake with a tiny bit of Barefoot Zin.
I am a microwave kind of cook

jilli, this is supposed to be a REVISION TKR. but the insurers have called it a TKR only. huge difference in procedure.

I saw that last night, rose -- wondered if it had been corrected by the insurers.
these people demand we cross the t's and dot the i's, but when we ask them to be more precise, they arc up.
I also saw that the TKR took much lesss time than the revision -- why?
jilli, i had the TKR june, last year. surgeon has to go in and repair it.

well if option a doesn't work, sometimes surgeon has to remove old prosthesis, and put in a new one.
I understand that, rose, but why does that take longer in surgery than a full replacement?

option a is, surgeon goes in, replaces plastic disc in tibial prosthesis with a thicker one, then checks to see if knee is stable again
the prostheses are cemented to my bones...he will have to chip away old cement before putting in new prosthesis

we are talking about a surgeon who can do a TKR and ThipR in 45 minutes. this new procedure can take 1-2 hours.

Well, I hope it will be as apinless as when I had a molar with a broken root removed recently. Dentist had to chip and drill and tug and pull and pull and I expected that when the freezing wore off I'd be gulping painkillers, but no! Absolutely no pain whatever!

yes, it was bad. And can you imagine, some people... all mad and indignant about the public transportation being down. While people were hurt and one even died. Some people... it baffled me.

st Jude was one of the apostles... Thaddeus, the 'brother of Jesus'. Not to be confused with Judas Iscariot.

Exactly right Sprite! St Jude's Day was Oct 28th. I live in the path of the storm in Andover, but came north to Newcastle it visit my daughter and grandchildren so missed it all. Anyway it was quiet in the Test Valley, but bad both in Wiltshire and on the South coast.

Grandchildren are great and I will see all seven of mine in under a week so it's a special time. My wife Jane sees her six quite regularly so I will have seen all 13 in quite a short interval!
ohhh, and when i was cleaning our bedroom, in one of the boxes i found a bag with one of middle son's curls which were cut off when he was 2 years old. it is about 6-8" long, and sooo blonde.

we've been lighting fires for a couple of weeks. Not every day, but the house gets cold sometimes

my son has a house that is much too big, but, surprisingly, it has gained in value while all others haven't. He's in the best part of Austin but now they're thinking of downsizing, not needing 5 br's and 5 1/2 baths
I have economy 7..all electric heating...you have to turn it on a day before you need it...but this one does not seem to heat anything when it gets cold here.

and they have no children! We had in-floor electric heat here, but once it got a short, there was no way to fix it without ripping u all the tile

i have a friend who is very into the making of movies. never go see a movie with him, he will tell you how all the special effects are done, why they shoot form that angle (and what the better shot would be), any continuity errors he spots, etc etc. interesting, but really takes a ball peen hammer to the magic of movies.
I'm sure most authors write / wrote just to make a living and for people to enjoy their writing.

Read the story, Crossy. Enjoyed most of it. Bit predictable and I found the end about himself a bit unnecessary. No clues that her life was falling apart (but I hadn't been awake long, when I read it). Still, enjoyed it - thanks for sharing.

Have you read Nicholas Fisk's "The Boy The Dog and The Spaceship"? It's one I used to use with my Year 6 class. Quite fun and the kids enjoyed it!
read your short crossy, I know you don't want the author mentioned, so avoiding that. so avoiding that, very good, plays on all his strong points save one. Always thought he could do smaltz well, one of the most difficult things to do and sound genuine.

crossy - also read your short sotry and thought that it was very well written - loved his use of words and how he built all the sensory images - but never thought i would like something by that author, but just shows how we stereotype people - have now reread it twice and still like reading it through

volta,was reading about a villiage your way that is recessed between some mountains and at certain time of the year used to get no direct sunlight at all because they were within the shadows of the mountains around them.recently they have placed parge reflecting mirrors that track the sun and shine it down into the villiage square in town so people can go there and feel some natural light

Oh well, a scientist recently posited that the mass of the Earth has an effect on the sun. The sun is losing mass. Therefore, the Earth is drawing closer to the sun. In only five billion years, the Earth will be drawn close enough to the sun to be consumed by the heat of the sun. Nothing will survive. The Earth will be no more.
I've noticed that our doctors are requesting more Vit. D blood levels now. I don't know if it's the time of year now or that this is some new practice.

joso, I worked night shift for over 34 years. When I changed to a day job, I had the worst time waking up and functioning in the AM. Now that I'm retired, I find that I wake up early but don't accomplish much until late afternoon. I think my circadian rhythem is broken!

I wonder if the vitamin D levels are intended to check calcium levels ... seem to be a lot of autoimmune diseases in my neck of the woods.
calcium levels are a lot cheaper to do, o-o. I've been very surprised at what some people's Vitamin D levels are lately. Mine is normal, but my str was put on mega doses of it for 6 month because her level was so low (and she plays roller derby!)
when I have no schedual to meet i tend to a late life, rising at the crack of noon or later, asn staying up till 3-4-5 in the am. there is a lot of research showing shift workers have problems and shorter lives. i don't know what if anything has been found about those who have steady night jobs.
A friend recently was diagnosed with celiac disease ... another one with no cure ... like Crohn's
Celiac is nothing like Crohns.
This same friend was diagnosed with Crohn's until recently.
When I worked nights, I worked about 3/4 time or else 12 hour nights; plus had 2 young kids and was Den leader for cub scouts, school volunteer and volunteered for a whole bunch of other things too. Plus both kids are ADHD (and never outgrew it). I don't know if I ever had a "steady" schedule
Crohns is not good. Celiac can be managed by food choices.

I am quite disciplined when it comes to sleep. If I am tired, I take a nap before I fall asleep.
2 adhd kids would be enough to keep anyone busy without a full time job added to the load.
