Hi Jilli
FWs
good now i'm back home from shopping. wretched knee gave way twice. *sigh* i was sort of hoping it had healed itself.
oh, rotten, rose.
WTG DIZ!!!!
i am amazed that none of my grandchildren;s friends did not know ther second verse of that nursery rhyme... not one out of 10 people in thier late 20's and 30's
Hi & bye, Pug. Off to start my day. Happy babbling, all. 😄
and I bet you are in pain now, are you not
i really, really so do not want this surgery...but my options have run out.
rather, they did not know the rhyme
wtg diz!
Hi and bye to you too soodle
up jack got and home did trot...
down to 15 w/o list, but thinking I am going to need it soon
as fast as he could caper
yes granny... up jack got and home did trot as fast as he could caper, and went to bed and plastered his head with vinegar and brown paper
...vinegar and brown paper
Hope it helped
lol, s'mom.....it's amazing that the young ones don't know it. we taught it to our kids.
I wonder how many of those rhymes are pretty much lost now
Like the skipping rhymes
yes jack, it does work.. lol i use vinegar on a washcloth for a headache.... has worked well for my family for more than 100 years that i know of
i watched a young mum at the doctor's the other day. she played round and around the garden, and open, shut them, open, shut them with her toddler.
i like to see the old traditions handed down , don't you rose......... gives me a sense oc continuity
I will add - Then Jill came in and she did grin, to see Jack's paper plaster, Her mother whipt her across her knee, for laughing at Jack's diaster.
*disaster
i love it dianne
Good one
oh yes -- I remember that now -- thks Dianne
Not mine - part of the old rhyme.
howdy all. I was reading back through the chat to see why Dianne was so vengeful to jack...
Hi jbp
s'mom. yes, it's lovely. i know i have given my own grandchildren books which their daddy reads to them. i concentrate on the old rhymes and stories.
hey jbp
and I had nothing to do with any of it
my aunt passed away last spring, and my sister and I were lamenting that we didn't write down every rhyme that she and our mom taught us
there were a gazillion of them that she and I only now half remember.
you could probably find them online, jbp
jbp, could you google them...the bits you remember....
lol, snap, jilli
I've looked for several, but some of them are different, and of course we want OUR version. ;-)
yep, rose
and jilli, likely story
:P jbp
heee
no matter how many times I type 'cacti' it won't work.
there are too many C words
tru
off to do waler's treatment... later babies......poof

WTG RURU!!!
it's ok, jbp, I just got nbt -- now baffled by the 8.
i just read your take on the great Enabler... I love it!
ty jbp :)
i think s/he also has traveled widely in southeast asia and assorted south pacific places... the word for a hawaiian goose appears too often for my taste,
but what would we do without our little babblets?
indeed!
jilli, you wanna a hint for the cr8?
any clues for the cr8?
I do!
yes please, rose
I have the cr4

Hello joy

I've got 7 left..lots of strange words
It's nice to have an extra hour to play
good job Joy
g'day joy
may i help you, joy?
can find the AC 7 or the CR 8
I mean "cant' find..."
ac7, ac + auto*****, does with no help
and the NE 7 too...sigh...I must be sleepy
ty, rose
cr8, start with short reptile + round letter + go fly a k***
ne7, ne + crucifix, minus last letter + vowel
Have to take sister to an early doctor appointment this morning(which I dread) and then get things to fill the cupboards (which is pretty bare)lol
I should have gotten the NE word, but I've never heard of those other two!
okay, pugs, hope all is well with sister.
Thanks, granny
np's joy, biltong
her sugars has been running high here lately so Iam sure the doctor isnt going to like that :(
pugs, my freezer/fridge was in the same sad state this morning.
too sleepy for the last few...night all
pugs, has she been cheating? or just inactive?
Hope all goes well with sister, puglet
the rhymn about old mother----------suits mine just to a t almost
sweet dreams, joys. hope you awake refreshed.
I think more the inactive
Night, joy. Sleep well
night Joy
Must be off for now. Hope to be back later. Thanks for all the clues, rose and sleep well. Have a good day puglet, bye
It wears me out sometimes trying to get her involved in her own life. I feel like a jail warden having to be atop of her
Night Biltong hope you have a good day
hi all, what a difference a lickety makes
howdy Mr Joso, how are you
and heee-eeere's joso!!! g'day mate
Rose was searching for you earlier
I'm good, how are you keeping
Iam okay
I was just starting to read back and saw her rattleing my cage hoping to wake me
joso, went food shopping today. wretched knee gave way twice.
You didnt fall again did you Rose
LOLOL.....you betcha, joso. and no pugs, had my walking stick, a trolley and DH to hang onto.
I suppose thats better than falling off the top of the cheerleaders pyramid, but not the most clever thing you've ever done
that was a blessing then
ah, well....anything to keep himself out of the supermarket....he ALWAYS comes home with extras...which neither of us need.
I bet you'll hate this, but have you considered a wheelchair, just for a month.... ya know, so the doc has something left to work with when you go under the knife
or maybe you let DH do the shopping and just suffer through a month of fluffernutter and sardines
aagghhh, wash your mouth out...you said the w word....darn....you are probably right...just as pugs said weeks ago.
that is a good ideal Joso and plus it would give her arm exercising too
but it is the safest way for you to travel right now
unless you get going down hill too fast=lol
lol, joso...sardines i can do...it's the fluffernutter i am not sure of...
you got a point pug, rosie on wheels may be a bad idea too
hmmmm, MIL has a w/chair, maybe borrow hers?
well remove the fluffer from the nutter and that will decrease the cals
hey...DH will be hanging onto the handles...and he is not one you would call fast...unless i give him the come hither look....lol
it's when he serves up the combination for dinner that will get you
you could alway just take it and push it when not needed(it would give you a crutch) and if you do need it you got it
like a wheelie walker, you mean, pugs?
sort of but if you have the chair is could serve duel purposes
don't give her an out, she'll take it, an ez-roll walker doesn't sound all that clever anyway.
you're not just a pretty face, are you?
what good is a walker if you cant walk?
taking weight off the knee is whats needed not a senior cit. marathon in the isles of the store--lol
good morning
this knee sounds like it's going down hill fast, did you twist it or anything in these falls, has the pain increased rose
Morning Mrs Ruby!
hey ruby
How is Ruby and the furry kids today
hello ruby. {{hugs}}
just trying to talk some sense into rose, it's an uphill battle.
joso, i have raging synovitis, and the tear in the MCL has extended. it aches so much.
get a go-cart with a trailer to put the stuff in and zip around striking terror in other shoppers
just wasn't expecting it to give way like it did today. i have been taking it easy, but sometimes i just have to bite the bullet.
is that like raging harmones?
Morning OO
the dreaded wheelchair is a good idea rosie. We need to slow you down, somehow! My husband still does the shoping and will, as long as he can. I'm the one who would buy the "extras" as I'm always hungry and a terrible impulse food shopper
lol...o-o...and how are you?
argggg, I so feel for you rose. I wish I could do more than give you the occasional laugh. by the way, wheel chairs are not, repeat NOT, a cartwheel aid.
awww, joso...just one little cartwheel...i have four wheels on the chair...
the last few times I've travelled, I've used a wheelchair in airports. It was embarrassing at first |(N>B> Maggie Smith in Exotic Marigold), but it made al the difference
yes, it does, ruby. and when we travel next i am gonna exploit it to the max.
keep em all on the ground, at all times, even while seeing what can be done with DH and the chair
you could get a souped-up motorized wheelchair
just keep a supply of $5 (or pounds, or euros, or w2hatever) and the airport people couldn't be nicer
o-o....not so far off...i still have to have both hips and the other knee 'done'.
na, just need it for a month, then she will have to physio the crapp out of that knee.
*giggle* joso...i am so looking forward to hydrotherapy again...i love it in the pool...
crutches did the trick for me .... even through the snow in winter
btw, we found out why i am having difficulty geting on and off the motorbike. i can only lift my foot 16" and i need at least 17". so i have a new goal to achieve.
o-o, i have elbow crutches, which were great last year.
take some air out of the tires?
did you hurt yourself OO
ankle sprain
do they give you a hard time when you when you try to array your candles, add the bath salts, and start your mood music cd.
o-o, once i have stepped onto the foot-peg, i need to lift the right foot 17" to get it over the seat and saddle bags.
you still on crutches OO
no .... that was decades ago
yuck, o-o...been there....not good. are you fully recovered now?
I shudder to ask, but just how did you discover this moto fact... while you where "taking it easy" and all rose
put a wooden block on the peddle Rose
or maybe mount a saddle on the bike with sturrips to help :)
good point Joso. yeah Rose how is that
lol, joso. what a great idea, pugs!!! we can move the foot pegs up....
joso, we measured the height from the foot peg to the seat. and the measured how high my foot is when i bend my knee.
ah, had visions of your dissapointment when you found out you couldn't ride today because you couldn't mount up.
oh, my....DH is out in the kitchen, cooking dinner, bless him, waering a trilby. when i looked at him, he said all chefs wear a hat. i said, not like that one...he said, well i'm not like other chefs. dear Lord, i love this man.
the simplest solution would be to hire some fit cabana boys to carry you around in your bed.
roflol, o-o....like your idea the best.
lol--there you go OO
I just bet you would Rose! lol
imagine DH's face when your medical aid workers arrive, lol
*giggle*
why isnt recoat a word?
good question, pugs. i tried it also
because they say repaint?
okay, dinner ready...will drop in later and see if you are still here. xoxox
I need one more re word and its a re621--I got the gun action and the reading one---please a clue for the other
but on the can is says to recoat
okay Rose, enjoy
pugs, re6, the most latest. or re + small american coin
thanks Rose
bye rose, eat hearty
you got your fws Joso
no, 21 more to go when I stopped to see if anyone was chatting
do you have the he 6 and 7
yes, varriations of he4, he6 a brave deed, he7 make someone into a he4
got the 7 but not the 6
he6, add the first 2 letters from frozen water
got it, duh---thanks
I think ro** is a he**, very brave! I wouldn't get on a moto even if Iwas 20 and fit!
happy to help
Ive never been on one either Ruby
you should try it at least once ruby, even as just a passenger it is a unique, and good, experiance
Have you owned one before Joso
I went on a dirt bike once, as a passenger (had a young boyfriend) and when we got to the railroad trestle,I had to get off and crawl bak on my hands and knees. Too scary for me
no, have ridden but never owned
I would really have to trust the driver and I dont know anyone
I have drove a 4-wheeler though
yea, don't hop on with the first hells angle you see, we'll never hear from you again
*angel
never did dirt bikeing, speeding down the highway was what I did ruby.
my friend has a Bultaco Matador, lovely "classic"
had* 100 yrs ago
last summer my hubby bought a motor bike. It must of been a really old one cause it looked just like a bike with peddles and all but just had a motor
worst driving I ever did was my first winter as a driver. one time I got my dad's pontiac spinning down the road untill the road turned where we plowed into a snow bank and then everything went dark. snow had blocked off all light, totally packed in, couldn't open doors and rolling down windows just revieled a sheet of snow. Crossed my fingers, started the car, and reversed out.
How lucky for you Joso! Good thing it was snow and not a tree or wall
once went skiing on a Christmas day when a blizzard had closed the roads. My son and his friend (both 12) were with me and had t push the car up the little hills. We wound up in a snow bank, laughing like crazy.
I like the bigger older cars myself.
Those were great times!
yes, the roadside snowbanks are 10+ feet tall up there, (couple of hours north of toronto) very forgiving thing to run into.
You ski Ruby?
I bet it gave you a fright though-lol
since that winter I've been a very good winter driver, kills me to see some of today's drivers have to relearn every winter, snow is slipery, compensate for it.
that dose sound like a good day ruby, where did you ski?
I hate driving on bad roads and hate more them out there that has no sense
I don't mind rough conditions, except whiteouts. but am always extra careful on the day of the first good snowfall.
Need to get off and do some things before heading to town---If Sprite happens on Please tell her hi for me----hope you two have a wonderful day! hugs until we meet again!
will do pugs, enjoy your day

im still recovering from last week - SO busy! nice to have a quiet morning
good morning all
morning teach
hello trif
I have a job interview tomorrow teach, for my first time teaching job. pretty excited, but trying to remain calm and realistic
hi trif, crossey, WV
what grade level do you hope to teach
best wishes for that trif!
hello dawger
I like teenagers, so hoping to land in a high school. this job is a parapro position, one on one for a very challenged student. ideally, if we are a good fit, I can go with the student through high school
its a start, and I believe in starts
it is always good to get yourself in to the system and know the other faculty
i believe in colds
that was one of my thoughts, yes, teach. also, something with benefits would be a MIRACLE. My monthly payments for health insurance are KILLING ME
i was never in a high school, always elementary or middle and always in special education
i am happy for you trif.i am sure you will be a good teacher
then the benefits will really be helpful
coming back to school all these years later as an adult has given me w whole new respect for those who teach
and i have to wonder if i was actually as stupid as some of the 18-25 years olds in this class!
when i was their age*
you mean now, or when you were that age?
hahaha crossy, we were all stupid then. I am stupid sometimes still
ah oops
our living life gives us a new perspecyive on things
teach, the benefits will be a godsend, but they aren't my main focus, of course. I really want to get in a good school, where I can help, and learn, and settle in for a stretch. changing jobs is so stressful
Maybe I should come back here when I'm 26, then ;)
i mean, most, about 3/4 are those missing one or 2 credits to get graduated, the other 1/4 are older people like me fufilling a wish to round out their eduation and perhaps do a bit of university
it does indeed teach
well spoken, teach. I certainly had NO idea who I was at 18
youth is indeed wasted on the young, volta
tadone!! finito!! some very odd words today
congrats dawger
left col grey!
huzzah for lbd!
and we need you here volta or all we would do is compare scare and blood presse readings and sugar counts lol
scars
I loved the nontraditional students in my classes. they made things so enjoyable. Most underestimated their abilities and learned to shine. and the traditional aged often were angry cuz the "oldies" blew the grading curve.
bottom two rows grey!
go Hursh!
haven't found the 8 though
hurshy is on a roll
hehe, lbd,i just blew the grading curve in the computer class i just finished:)
Morning, all.

Good morning, all. There are no stupid Babblers, only stupid words.
hiya Judi. Ain't that the pure truth.
Good Morning Everyone. How are you all doing today?
hiya Nef. Am fine. Bit tired after a therapy day.
and how about you?
Judi, I love your icon!
I'm hanging in there. :-) The weather is changing; funny how (as we age) we can feel it more.
Ty, Sprite!
so true. I hope things will settle soon for you.
Oh, it will be better soon. And I just have to remember I'm not a kid anymore too! ;-)
*giggles* Hard to believe, that one, isn't it.
hi and by,all. i am done.
hi TOwl, and congratz on finishing.
Trying to play on the floor all the time with my grandson is okay --to a point. I just find it a lot harder getting back up from there; and I've now told him once I'm down, don't expect me to crawl around so much.
hang in there, nef. change of seasons is tough.
YAY, TO!!! WTG!!!
very good. Giving him what he needs without forgetting your own limits :)
yeah, it's just *I'm* the one who forgets my limits. Ah, the Joys of aging! :-)
How is therapy going now sprite?
hi all, hope everyone is feeling good today. need a clue for ac7/40 please
very good. Lots of positive feedback today. And even lost weight... 1,8 kg even.
hi magzel

Hi sprite! dcseain, is this a baby or a toddler? If you ave a front loader washing machine try putting a wash on and putting him in front of it
*grin* I like that idea, SarahB
Worked like a charm for my wee ones back in the day. They find it hypnotic.
I can see why. I have caught myself staring at it too
I think the swooshy water sounds remind them of the womb too
he's 8 months old, cruising/crawling, pre-verbal. He's plaing quietly now.
sounds like a good explanation to me
Hello, Sprite, sarahB, magzel :)
Yes, we've a seahorse that makes gentle water noises and plays music. He finds it very soothing.

hi zooz!
That would be neato if that was a word, Crossy haha
I remember a girl at the school i attended..many moons ago. She could not stop sucking her thumbs and it pushed her top front teeth out to such an extent that her teeth showed even when she had her mouth closed.

hi, all. my husband, bless his heart, took our marriage license and had it triple matted in our wedding colors (white, dusty rose and royal blue) and mounted in a white, silver trimmed frame. It looks amazing, and it made me cry.
what a sweet thing to do
a lovely gift, angel - and one that, i'd bet, was truly a surprise - happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary, Angel. how long have you been married?
15 years, peri, and he still amazes me with his caring and thoughtfulness.

Hello phan!! I would like to take a nap, but also want to go to sleep tonight! LOL. Do hope you are not getting sick!!
hello, Jilly I don't think I will have trouble going to sleep. I made sure I didn't sleep more than an hour.
Ever since 'the change' almost anything can unbalance my sleep....even nodding off. Oh well, I am sleeping better at night...what's your work schedule this week?

does anyone have a clue for the CA 5/16?
ca5 ... and release
oh, wow! Thanks Joso
the following 2 7's stem from this word
yeah, got them
... in the rye & ... his breath, lol
sorry, got wrapped up in a theme, I'll stop now
Oh, I just love that book!
No big deal! I appreciate the help!
yes, interesting author too, got sick of the fame and stopped publishing, keep writing but stopped publishing.
Oh, really? That's interesting...I always find myself looking for a different way to 'read' that book. There's so many different theories and interpretations. That almost seems a case of the author echoing the protagonist.
yes, there will be a mass of material when he dies, i wonder if he has left instructions to burn it, or publish.
I hope for the latter, although it's unfortunate that writing such an iconic book means that everything else produced will inevitably be compared to it.
JD Salinger died in NH in 2010...
ah, just read he died in 2010, slated release of some stuff in 2015 and 2030.
* 2020, not 2030
Oh, how sad. I didn't know he'd passed on.
not so sad, I think, wanted a quiet life, a quiet death goes with that.
That's a better way of looking at it. I "bonded" a lot with that book in my teens, so I suppose it left me with a lot of fondness for the author, too!
saw a bio of him recently, apparently i saw it because it was waiting on his death too. It upset him terribly that nut bars and assassins quoited catcher, and even carried copies with them on their 'missions'.
That is awful. It reminds me of those misogynists who quote 'Fight Club' religiously - completely missing the point of the book. What biography was that; do you recall the title? I'd be quite interested to see it, if you can
was a documentary film called 'salinger'
there is a little more info at wikipedia...
Straight and to the point ;) thank you, I'll look that up after I've finished my stock of horror films. Halloween always makes me want to scare myself
there is a companion bio book by the film director and writer, same name.
hi all. i just cant get that clue for the 8. it was cr: reptile+2 vowels+cross letter+2vowels. totally stumped.
any other clues?
mkg, cr**, short reptile word + round letter + go fly a k***
Now all the vultures can make movies that Salinger would have hated. I won't watch any of it, out of respect. But if he wrote more about the Glass family that he wanted published, I'll be waiting/
cr short reptile word? wow so stumped. wiill try again
GOT IT. ty ty ty!
think alligator, mkg
boy was i way off.
i think some of the glass family stories are among those to be released...
ty all.
ty mcleach
yay, mkg
Well, he was writing all the time- he just wanted to be left alone and not psychoanalyzed. "You saw what psychoanalysis did for Seymour."
If he wanted to be left alone? He published what he wrote.
Only four books. Not since 9
1963 or 61.
It's fascinating. I wonder why he didn't consider using a pseudonym. Or maybe he did and we'll just never know.
Some say he did. there are all kinds of theories of matching some guys writing style with his- conspiracy theories in a way. But the truth is, I just wanted to know how Franny ended up, and I like the detailed "prose home movies"
It gets to be too much of a contradiction to try to renounce ego and publish at the same time. That was the core of the Glass family's dilemmas
I've been reading him since I was 12 and it's all pretty much in his published work. I did read the uncollected stories that he didn't want published- and felt guilty for getting them, and he was right- they weren;t very good. I felt disloyal.
I see your point...this is so interesting. This is the kind of conversation you rarely get to have when you live alone in the middle of nowhere.
I was just thinking that, but I haven't watched Days of Our Lives in 3 months so I have nothing really important to dish on.
Which nowhere do you live in the middle of?
The Lapland nowhere. Population gets a little sparse when you go this far north in the country, but I'm sure this little town is nowhere near as isolated as some in America and Canada.
I was quite despondent when my favorite wall ran off with the ceiling.
Or Australia, for that matter. It's the middle of a small nowhere :)
some just wouldn't leave salinger alone; i wouldn't be shocked if he burned any later writing.
oh, poor seymour
volta. a lot of people do not realise that australia is quite large. you can fit the whole of europe and all the uk into it. and room left to spare.
hello babblers.
Absolutely - I made a friend from Perth, and I was stunned to discover how isolated that city is! I haven't made it to Australia in my travels yet, but I hope to someday soon.
what a darling baby, blueheron. such a lot of hair.
I know mab.:)
She's my 2nd grandchild. Iris Elizabeth.
lol, volta, himself and i have only seen about a quarter of what this island has to offer. and we go off on 3 week driving tours each year. radiating out from melbourne. i think we have seen just about all of victoria, lower half of nsw, and 7/8ths of tasmania. it's nearly time for me to persuade DH to get on the big train..wish me luck!
I'll wish you the best of luck for that! There's no greater pleasure than travel, I don't think
there is something really wonderful about train travel
Hello all...
love trains
jellen!1
:)
the french do trains so well - smooth
yeah, joso, tell it to DH...he thinks it's going to be boring. but that was what he said about cruising, and what he said about fiji...changed his tune after both adventures.
omg...jellen...helloooo
Some good train travel for sure out where you are, Joso, although sadly I've never been able to stump up the cash for it. Greyhounds are more my thing in North America
I wonder if I could have the stats for the bottom row A...
ae5/12, jellen
It's an ae 5/12, I believe
ae + not FBI but ***
Thanks!
Thanks, Grannyrose. I was struggling with that one!
np's you two. how are you, jellen? all good i hope.
hi all. back to get half way.
welcome back mkg
I'm fine, rose...
did i see you have graduated? well done! and now working on your masters...wow!
Oh, it's been a long time since I last graduated...but I am working on a master's degree...
hores
oops. sorry
i've long wanted to teach freshman comp. i envy you jellen.
not envy, more like admire
my hat's off to you, jellen. i tried to update my degree, but i left it too late. just couldn't get into the swing of studying again. and it's only 6 years to go until i can retire on a full pension...so i chug along.
Aww, thanks mab!
It's a challenge Rose. I'm only taking one class at a time.
granny, isabella rossellini is working on some degree - zoology, maybe. never too late.
of course she's isabella rossellini and can do anything she wants.
still...
when i received the handbook for my first unit...i laughed so hard i could hardly make to the rubbish bin. it was on the psychology of team work...for goodness sakes...i practically wrote it in my sleep.

it's as English as some decent percentage of the words in ENABLE
lol, hey seain. how are you?
I don't know
hey babblers! (jellen!!!)
hi welki !
could someone take pity and provide a clue for my last word, the first co 624 please
co6, one who co4's
sorry... the only co that I'm missing
sure - co 6/24 - if i were to try to convince you to do something slyly, i would try to co**** you
co 6, 24 is to force someone to act. er....
or co6, impel or force someone to do comething
got into the comfort winter food groove today, diane - a big pot of beef stew, roasted some chicken for later in the week
That sounds delicious, Welki. Winter comfort food is the best kind of food
thanks for co 6/24
the house smells deeeeeeelicious :)
I'm there already, welki.... made a big pot of garlic sausage soup on Saturday, had it again this evening.
yum - do you put cabbage in it?
You got more snow than we did I think.
no... just potatoes, onions and fine cut garlic... it is thick and good.
roads are dry now, for the most part - don't care how much we get as long as the roads stay clear
our residential streets are very slippery, main roads are fine.
Hi, granny. i'm well, if a bit distracted.
i used to make a cabbage and kielbasa soup (with potatoes, carrots and onions) - with real rye bread on the side. the other half isn't crazy about soup, so i haven't made it for years
hi, seain
The "other half" is the reason I don't put cabbage in it ;-)
ty welki, got it and can now enjoy the rest of my evening
i don't know how you do it, seain - had a 4.5 yr old and 8 mo old here for a week. they left friday and my back is still sore!
hi, welki, diane
well i just decided, i'm going to make the soup and batch it out in single portions - for me!
volta, you're in lappland?
That's correct. And you're in the home of the Stampede, am I right?
hi dcseain
yes, calgary
and I'm 3 hours north of welki ... hi again, Volta :-)
Hello again :-) would that be Edmonton? I'm trying to remember from driving through there, but that was a few years ago now
diane? do you recall a gal from bowden, a babbler named altagolfnut? if so, have you seen her lately?
(she may be from innisfail)
altagolfnut was in Innisfail, and I saw her briefly a couple of weeks ago in here.... just as the golf season had come to an end.
good - glad to know she's still around. i'd like to play golf with her next season
Volta, I am just 15 minutes east of Edmonton, in Sherwood Park. Edmonton would be my city, but we rarely go in there !
well, she can play golf - better phrased, i'd like to tag along so SHE can play golf and i can try to hit the ball
I "read" that you got new clubs and new shoes..... good for you !!
Not even to go to that great big mall you folks have there? :-) I remember driving that very straight, long highway between the two...quite a scary stretch of road at night. A lot of interesting little places along the way, though.
three hours of the most boring driving conditions in canada, volta
I've been there, but since youngest daughter moved out here to Sherwood Park ( 12 years ago ) I haven't been there once ! Just TOO DARN BIG! We have taken out of town visitors there in the past, just for an sight seeing outing !!
The Sat-Nav made me chuckle though, Welki. "Continue straight - for - 300 kilometers"
And it certainly is massive, Dianedecoder...I felt like I needed to leave a trail of breadcrumbs behind me.
LOL.... good old GPS
boy, this is nice - like old times :)
;-) 'tis
volta, is the cuisine in lapland/finland similar to norway's?
Hm, that's an interesting question. I would say Norwegians enjoy a lot more fish and seafood with all that coast they have, and oddly enough they seem to eat a lot more cold food over there. There is quite a lot of variety within Finland, though; here in the North, the food is a lot more hearty, and I suppose quite unsophisticated in comparison to much of Europe!
<-- googling lapland cuisine
well, this sounds pretty good - is this an accurate website? http://tinyurl.com/nxstz5t
ha! and we have a connection - i have nokian tires on my car!
It looks accurate to me! Although, I always read that we eat a lot of bear...I think people say that for shock value, because I've only ever eaten bear once. It's considered very luxurious!
How funny to share a website, a climate and tires with somebody living halfway across the world :-)
is reindeer a staple? here, there are reindeer farms, but i don't ever recall seeing the meat in a neighborhood supermarket, probably only sold in specialty butcher shops. i've had elk - and it was delicious
Reindeer is enjoyed here a lot, yes! For me, it's my absolute favorite meat; rather similar to elk, really, with that very rich and gamey taste. Delicious!
I recommend it very highly. Do you tend to eat a lot of game meats from the wildlife around there? Of course, Alberta is quite famous for beef
would be great if, someday, you could share your favorite recipe for reindeer. i have a friend whose husband just took down a massive elk and would love to share your recipe with her
Well, I'd be very happy to. I'll have to think about a favorite though; I don't want to short-change a friend of yours!
we have friends whose diets consist almost exclusively of game. we live in a city, are not hunters, so the only game meat we eat is what we are gifted or what is served at friends' homes
(their meat part of the diet - they eat other things, too :)
time to serve that beef stew - very nice chatting with you, volta!
And you as well :-)
enjoy your comfort food, welki !
Finally ! Now I'm going to get into comfy pajamas and watch TV with hubby...chilly outside but cozy inside. It was nice chatting with you Volta... see you again soon. :-)
so, my cat was missing for awhile (not normal for him to go far when he gets out and he doesn't normally get out). Decided to go looking for him. He is injured, bleeding but not grossly. When we found him he didn't want to come to us and in fact ran away and hid from us. We have him in the house now, trying to let him calm down to see if I need to go to the ER vet or not
that is so frightening phandmd! I am so glad you found him quickly
Good Evening again. Oh, phand; how horrid!
yeah. he is like 15 years old.
What seems to be the problem? Do you think he was hit by a car or attacked by another animal?
it was either an animal fight or a fall injury
(Both my cat and dog are that same age)
IF it's an animal fight; he should probably be seen. My sister is a vet and she says that it's important to get rabies shots
he is up to date on rabies. He will def be seen, just not sure if it will be tonight or in the am
If it's a fall; is he able to walk okay or do you think he's got internal injuries?
my cat was bitten by a dog once upon a time and became very ill within 24 hours ( i coudn't see her wound). would advise vet asap. morning will be good.
it is important to put him on antibiotics too if he is bleeding because claws and teeth are so dirty they almost always get infected.
I agree that tomorrow would be safe tho to save money
He has walked fine.
does he have a spot he won't let you touch? Does he let you pick him up?
I was holding him when we got him in. Right now he is by himself. I will check on him in a little bit.
still trying to decide when I will take him in. If I can wait, it would be better on the pocket book, but I don't want to compromise his health either
How long has he been inside now? Has he had any food or drink?
about 30 mins. He did eat a few bites of the tuna I put in with him plus he has his regular food
Has he used the litter box? (All information needed to assess if you need the ER vet or not)
Oh dear, poor kitty...wish jes was on...
DO you have a vet school near you you could call for advice?
sounds like he was more frightened than hurt and another assessment in the morning will be safe.
no, I think VA tech is the closest one and that is about 5 hours away.
WOuldn't it be nice if she was Jilly?
he is still bleeding.
Darn. And no sign of jes right now either. :-(
Where is he bleeding?
my vet tech neighbor said if it was her cat she would probably wait til the morning.
from his head near his ear. which is a common bite wound site. Looks like more than a simple bite though.
looks more like a gash
You could do the standard "watch and wait" for an hour or 2, if he seems to be taking care of himself and doing okay, then wait til AM. If you sense he's having some difficulties; they don't charge more or less according to the time (it's expensive no matter what time it is)
WIll he allow you to hold gentle pressure on it? Can you clean up the wound?
Does it look like a deep puncture wound?
after hours vets charge LOTS more here Nef
I know Bugs; but it's alread after hours where phand is
no, not a puncture more like a gash. Bugs, he meant that it doesn't matter if I go now or at 2 am it willcost t he same...
yeah, that's what I was planning on doing Nef.
yes, that's exactly what I meant
ah, perhaps now would be better if it needs to be stiched, but none of my cats have ever needed stiches. One did get flesh eating disease tho when I tried to get away with not getting antibiotics. I won't do that again!
oh, no, he will definitely require antibiotics.
So sorry phan
how big is the gash phand?
Can you kind opf treat it like a human's gash?
I guess. I have hydrogen peroxide. but would that sting?
(clean wound; pressure to stop the bleeding; approximate edges and apply some sort of dressing
don't think I can put a dressing on it. it is by his ear
Just use half strength H2O2; mix up a a little saline (1/2 tsp per qt. water)and use that for the other half of the H2O2 solution
It shouldn't sting with the saline mixed in
that's a good idea.
thanks, Nef.
(I always heat the water to make saline; otherwise the salt doesn't mix as well. Mix salt in a small amount of water (1/2 to 3/4 c, then dilute with room temp water
ok. going to go check on kitty now.
LOL! I mix up a saline solution for sore throats, colds, gargling, wound cleaning, itchy bug bites and so many other reasons that my grandson just takes it for granted that I will make it for him
he really wont let me examine him.
there is now blood spattered all over my wall.
uh-oh
Not good, any chance your vet tech friend could look at him?
how much blood is it (do you thick he's lost a lot of blood(even before you found him?)
think
might need to be seen sooner rather than later
if it;s by his ear he may be shaking his head, thus splatter. maybe vet time.
it's not a lot just splattered because he shook his head.
he likely is in pain, poor boy
I did see 2 puddles of blood, one was about a tablespoon (estimation) and the other would probably be about a teaspoon
he is probably in pain.
Cat's unfortunatly have incredible fortitutde...I would take him to vet, it may be worse than you can know
me too
hello, folks. reading back - i agree with jilly. besides, phan, you won't get a wink of sleep tonight if you don't take him
yeah, probably not.
i am grateful to know about the multiple uses of salt water, nef. very good to know.
and if you take him before the vet has gone to bed it would be better for everyone
good luck to you both
Thanks, bugsaw.
With the blood loss and apparent pain, it might be best
hugs and prayers phand!
thanks, Jilly
yes, take care phan
Agreed bugsaw...LOL, remember my home health days...on call, the person had been constipated for days...the call would come in after midnight...
(((phand & cat)))
LOL,
His name is Bagheera
Oh dear, I now rememer talking about him....that we had had a Bagheera....poor little kitty
*remember
oh, Jilly, I hadn't remembered that...

(sorry, on phone and can't multi-task)
LOL....would you believe I missed that one...

Thanks so much, Rose. How are you feeling today?
not too bad, thanx peach. had a good sleep last night. it seems i alternate, one bad, then a good one..
and you, peach? have you had a good day, hun?
Glad you had a good sleep.....things seem easier to deal with when you are more alert. Do so wish I could sleep "normal" hours.
brb..
I've had a migraine for most of the day.....have to wear sunglasses all the time.
awww, peach, how awful, dear.
is this common for you peach, I hope you are just having a bad day
Please "send" it will go away quicker.
joso, I used to have them on a regular basis.....thought that kids moving out would help. Perhaps it wasn't their fault after all. LOL
hehehe
peach, do hot or cold packs help?
Not much, Rose.......usually go into a darkened room and just wait it out.
got an aunt who gets migraines, where rare for her except chocolate bring them on, and she loves chocolate
when i get them, i take 3 aspirin tablets, then a half hour later 2 tynelol
Aw, that is sad.
Aspirin or Tylenol don't touch these monsters I have.
the aspirin are to thin the blood, so there isn't as much pressure on the blood vessels. but if a darkened room and lying quietly works, well that's good too.
I can't look at a computer screen when I have one peach. I am sorry you are suffering
Think I will have to quit for a while now. Good luck to all.
poor peach...gentle hug, sweetie.
visiting her place was like going on an easter hunt, she had chocolate stashed everywhere. She used to buy it on impulse, then decide to put it out of sight. chocolate in draws, behind shelf knickknacks, in vases, medicine cabinet, under seat cushions.
a little boy's dream come true, joso
rest well peach, hope it fades soon
you know peach, the more i tell you and others here these stories, the more it's dawning on me that i have a family of kooks
Hope your headache goes away soon GA...
Well, heading to pillows...sending good thoughts of GA feeling better and for good outcome for phan's kitty Bagheera.
