No, flosey, but they are calling for a huge storm here - anywhere from 8 to 15 inches and bitter cold. That is a bit unusual for us the last few winters, which have been mild.

pug: yes!!! It was amazing. We went to the store the podologist adviced. Didn't see even one nice shoe. Only with bling or fur etc. Then a rather old man came to help us, he picked out a pair after looking at my feet and the new soles, and they fit perfectly. Most comfy ones I have ever owned.

sprite, the burden becomes heavier when you find out that the elderly person has been having chest pain all night, or been feeling nauseated all night...you begin to ask yourself, why do i bother trying to take care of them if they won't let me take care of them.

rose, I do understand. I agree! But I know a little bit of the other side, and that stinks too. Every time I ask my daughter to do something for me, because I physically can't do it myself, she gives this irritated sigh. So I often do things myself which I pay for afterwards in severe pain, because it hurts worse to have her sigh at me like I am an impossible burden.
sprite, maybe the next time she says "Have you ioned my green shirt?" or "When is dinner ready?", sigh and say, "Ill get to it when I can. Maybe she'll catch on. Practice those audible sighs!
i understand sprite, and that is very naughty of your girl to make you feel you are such a burden. maybe as she gets older her understanding will also grow.

i hope i have learned a little along the way after taking care of two very different geriatrics. i understand about the being dependent. each time i have surgery, i have a deficit in my independence column. i truly rely on don to do the simplest things for me, like putting on my knickers, dry my feet, it's all so frustrating.

Maybe - but you have to do what's right for you at the time. I can't / won't give advice because, truthfully, I'm very lucky and have never had similar experiences, so I'd probably be talking out of turn. But just know that although I may not say much, you have my warmest thoughts and wishes.
His abuse is not your fault ... blaming yourself is something the abused often do.
That's very true and from what I've read, it's something the abuser thrives on - making the abused feel it's their fault.

the problem is, none can come stay long enough--and none can afford it. The grandsons want it but they're still in college, and where will they get jobs? I'd rent, but it's not up to code--the old septic system--and it's hard to be a landlord a thousand miles away. I wrote most of my books at the lake. Had my daughter chosen to live--she was there every summer--I'd have figured it out for her. Now it's too lonesome (and dangerous) alone, even with friends. Plus VT taxes are awful, now, on 2nd homes.
Oh dear. I am sorry. And yes taxes are ridiculous on 2nd homes especially. We have a camp on Lake Champlain. I list it as my primary residence so we can afford to keep it.

i used to really enjoy country skiing, but then I ended up falling once on a poorly groomed trail and cracked a couple of ribs (lucky I didn't break my nose)… since then I am less anxious to do it

Hi there, LeslieAnn. I think I told you that my family are from Pittsfield and Baylis. My step-mother passed away New Years Eve.....she was a great lady, lived to be 94. I was raised by foster parents so I didn't meet them until I was 44. I don't hear much from them anymore, however, my stepmother kept in touch for years. I'm not able to fly anymore, so I didn't go. They used to take Dad into Springfield to the hospital from time to time.
