Guitar store with a bit of trickery thrown in. That's my clue for st8/50.
that's not the wind dee..that's crossy.. looking for bacon
enough weird words -- listing for the last 16
LOL... good one, ru :)
Another cryptic clue, "Did you make noise on this tram, Ashley?" clue is buried in that sentence.
what's wrong with marm?
I'm leaving a cryptic clue on your headstone melon whenever that is :D
nan put an s in front.
I tried that, too :)
FWs
ruru must have had ball with the ul words.
I never thought of it until you mentioned it melon :D
wtg, diz!
YEAH DIZ.. wtg
On another note, I am about 10 days into a cold with the worst cough. If a genie said I had only one wish for the rest of my life, I would say, "Geni, all I want is to never have post-nasal drip, ever, ever again. Fine, hammertoe, hemorrhoids, the kids not calling, and no boyfriend, OK. Just no more gagging on snot. Thank you."
and to ruru—reeeeeely? I'm shocked.
I just thought of seaweed
I was just trying to kelp nan with the clue
you need to be PUNished, ruru!
It wasn't i.. or should I say norI?

fireworks
yeah dee. *drops ticker tape*
ty :)
*leaves the mess for une to clean up * :D
school has already been cancelled for tomorrow... I have lost count, but they have missed a bunch of days
wow.> I bet.. it just sounds dangerous to get around out your way dee
your icon has a kind of soap opera look to it dee
i figured as much, ruru
we have had winter weather advisories and wind chill advisories... breaking lots of records for snow, temps, etc. I think it is supposed to be -1 to -12 degrees tomorrow ... it's still snowing and blowing now
fw and goodnight all, be back at flip
nite flosey!
ha ha... it really does, ru
night flosey
gn, flosey... sleep well!!
so much for global warming huh dee?
too funny, we were just laughing about that today
*leaves out hairspray for dee to use tomorrow..screw Al Gore*
he's an idiot
not only that dee.. but a whole lot more
OK, mediocrity claimed. nbt nbs > halfway and all 6+ length words. Anyone need clues for the 6s?
This has been an odd winter. We have kept blinds in the nook closed; the cold and wind seeps thru the windows, and they are relatively new here.
well done melon.. nope i'm fine
Did you have a nice weekend, ru?
are they double paned windows dee?
I had to work Saturday.. but I did have a nice day today
OK, off to beddy-bye. nite all! [poof]
night melon
Yes, thermapanes and tinted for sun protection... the wind seems to hit that direction, and we haven't had any sun for several days.
bet you have been getting a lot done around the house dee :D
Actually lazy days - some laundry and comfort food cooking, but lots of reading and playing word games LOL
atta girl
greetings friends
And napping :)
hello pugs
Hi, pug.
no naps for me.. this weekend.. too much to do
Hi Ru and Dee
I love my sunday naps though
Sounds silly, but the bitter cold chills me to my bones... tough to get warm; then when I do, I have to throw everything off for awhile... crazy. I agree.
What were you up to this weekend - lots of chores?
HI Pugs - just back after emailing.
Congrats to those with fireworks.
I had to do a consumer event in the Tahoe area.. a tasting for an accounts customers.. that took my whole saturday
Successful day?
Hi Liz--did you enjoy your day yesterday
today I had to house clean.. and fix somethings at Mrs Ru's house.. and then make dinner and try to watch the Boring Grammies
Our daughter was in San Francisco this weekend for a conference.
Yes thanks Pugs - quiet but lovely meal at night with the wine!
oh.. she had great weather
75 yesterday and in the high sixties today
And she was lucky not to have any flights cancelled coming home tonight. She was a happy camper.
I had to unpack some shorts for today :D
Ruru is that your dog in your icon
Amazing! I can't sit still to watch grammies and other award shows... they drive me batty.
yes.. that's mr D
oh god.. they are incredibly boring
He is such a pretty color.
He's beautiful.
Nice looking dog, Ru
Keith URban was the best thing on.. and you have to knock a few points off of him because he's married to Nicole Kidman
I watched old Dragnet episodes on netflix LOL
Thought of him on Saturday - saw a market stall selling stuff to "cure all skin irritations on your pets"! Sadly I wouldn't trust them!
thanks.. he's a cutey.. really sweet boy
oh god dee
Pretty funny the issues they deal with. How old is he?
Joe Friday episodes.. you must be stir crazy
Dylan is 4 now.. he'll be 5 in December
A Mark VII production
was it BR? ... I don't remember. I used to love the show as a kid
Can't believe he's that old. BR?
the end of the show with the hammer and chisel
Morning OO
Hi o-o
Hello
I liked the new dragnet movie they made too
ah.. you're right .. I remember that
I made a yummy Pinterest crockpot comfort meal... kielbasa, bunch of cheeses, garlic, onions, potatoes, milk, pepper, paprika... pretty decadent..
Johnny Carson had a funny bit with the actor who played Friday on his show once.. it was pretty good
I haven't seen the new one.
I LOVED Johnny Carson!
that sounds perfect for the weather dee.. milk?
Liz, did you say that today is a holiday for you
isn't it Australia day or something
Yes it is, Pugs. Yesterday was Australia Day but because it fell on Sunday, the Monday is also a holiday.
*aussies will stretch holidays on a moment's notice*
milk to make a sauce with all the cheeses - reminded me of scalloped potatoes with ham... only kielbasa.... great flavors, especially cooked slowly in the crockpot.
what is it that you do on this holiday
hmm.. sounds good dee
Aussies take holidays at every opportunity :)
What is Australia Day, please?
But the kids go back to school tomorrow after their summer break :)
It commemorates the landing of the first fleet from the UK on 26 Jan 1788.
They celebrate the day that Nicole Kidman got rid of Tom Cruise
lol!
sounds good to me. Aww, ty, Liz.
I know that info because I had to learn it for my citizenship test. I became an Aussie on Australia Day last year.
FW Didn't have to ask for a single clue......first time ever, I think.
Oh, how fun, Liz. Do you have dual citizenship?
congrats Peach. BBL :)
WTG, peach!!
Hi Peach and good for you!
yeah peach.. silent fireworks
Yes I do - UK and Aussie. I've lived here 5 years now. Wouldn't go back to live in the UK but love to holiday there.
couple of doozies in this grid too.. good for you
Peach, has your pain let up any
Very nice. What brought you to Australia?
It is minimal right now....for that, I am grateful.
How are you feeling, pug?
right now I got a headach so bad that everything is a blur but it will leave as soon as the pills kick in--other then that Iam fine
Maybe we will get a break in this weather soon Peach and your pain will go away
Yeah, I had one earlier....thought it was a migraine, but took a nap and it was gone.
hope both of you get rid of the pain :(
I do believe the weather affects most people.
Iam glad for you
well, I need to move a load of laundry. Have a great eve / day all!!
I need to check emails and do some things. Blessings y'all.
Its so windy here right now I can feel air coming in through the wall plugs
ttfn!
bye Peach
Here, too, pug... pretty ghastly day today
bye Dee
stay warm and safe :)
same for us too Dee
you too

How are things with you OO
OO, can I have the stats for the lone t , please
no acute distress.
great! OO
ti4/4, pug
*tiptoes in* whispers, hello everyone. please don't make too much of a fuss. am feeling a little better. but can feel things building again. seeing doctor on thursday. xoxox to all of you for your loving concern and supportive emails. they were much valued.
ti 4/4
Hi, Rose---hugs and take care
thanks OO
Good, rose
miz pugs, you should be proud of me. have spent 75% of today on the bed. and thanx o-o. i think you above most will understand where i have been.
very good Rose--I hope you can find peace within soon - miss you
pug, lying down does not help with the headache?
:-) my dearest. and don is so supportive. he said to me this morning 'we have only been married 6 months. huh?? i said. well, he said, this is the first time since then we have been truly alone. our marriage is just beginning.
no, OO---It dont
pugs, how are you going with doctor and finding somewhere to have a sleep study done?
thats about right Rose--its all new---are you in the new room now
I havent done anything as of yet Rose. The weather is against me right now
oh, yes, dear. as don said, this is OUR room. it is the first time either of us have slept here. slowly but surely our things are finding their home in here.
well, duh, to me. of course. well, as soon as the weather is kinder to you, i will be prompting you.
thats nice Rose-----I have a home care women coming here as soon as she can get here for my sister and Iam going to talk to her on getting medical help for myself
good, pugs. it's about time someone stepped in and helped you. you have carried the burden for so long.
and about programs that might be available to you as caregiver ... you need some time for yourself too, pugs
I dont know that they will but I will talk to her and maybe she can point me in the right direction
Do you have the Medicare URL for caregiver help I posted, pugs?
Yes and I called and talked to them OO, but the lady dont think they can help me due to the fact that my sister is not in a nursing home. But I told her that she would be if I didnt take her in. So they are suppose to go over all the stuff I gave them and get back to me. So far Ive not heard anything
and you o-o? are you well at the moment?
That makes no sense, pugs.
I know OO, but you know how these goverment programs are
I will always be a half bubble off center, I have been told. With that caveat, I am doing amazingly well.
I know I need to get a family doctor because I dont even have one
OO, you sound like a level--lol
it seems to be the same the world over. if you take care of someone in your home, to save the government the costs of supporting them in a nursing home, you are not eligible for any support. it's crazy!! and if they were in a nursing home, you won't need support. go figure!!
Rose, did you not start your water thing for your knee
not yet, pugs. still waiting for approval from workcover people. i think i will ring them and let them know, every day they delay, i am not returning to work.
I think you will feel better too getting out
i cannot return to work until i am off my strong pain meds, and i am not coming off them until hydrotherapy has me mobile and full wieght bearing.
I dont blame you---just take it slow and heal as your body lets you
pugs, you are so right. but i need my independence back. that is what is dragging me down. don is quite willing to take me out. but i need to be able to get out on my own power.
you are about like me being weathered in--and it does get to you
darn it all!! why am i so fiercely independent?
btw, is the worm still behaving? keeping out of your way?
I must bug you all to death writing and all--but I get so darn bored and no one to talk to---------
most of the time---a few fits but I dont let them get to me
no, my darling. please write whenever you feel so inclined. i love your emails.
Rehi pugs and hi Rose. Welcome back :)
You do not bug me, pugs. I am going to keep telling you you must make your well-being the top priority. To do otherwise makes for a miserable life.
they did send the grader down the road yesterday but with this wind and new snow that did not do much good
thanks OO and Rose
Hello, Lizlin.
Hi o- o
thanx liz. not sure how long i'll be back as i can feel things building again. have doctor's appt. on thursday. btw, thanx for your kind words...and a Happy Australia Day to you and yours.
I am doing better on your 5 questions OO--after sending that page--I got it
You're getting very good advice from Rose and o-o , pugs.
Good pugs. Good.
Happy Australia Day to you all too. We're all happy to see you as long as you feel up to it.
I know and I thank them so much.
Rose and Liz, are you doing something special for this holiday
No, nothing special other than what I told you about celebrating my Aussie anniversary.
not me, pugs. a lot of aussies have big parties, bbq's etc. don and i choose to keep it quiet.
Liz, have you worked Crossy turtle yet? That thing is hard
it's very sad actually. white australians celebrating the day when our indigenous australians were reduced to the lowest of inhabitants. beneath even the convicts. i consider myself as a white australian aborigine. i support their causes, and anger.
Yes I did it today. I shape sorted from the start and then did the outline. Wasn't too bad that way. I enjoyed it. Btw, I put a new one there today.
Couldn't agree more, Rose.
It horrifies me when I see / read what happened to many indigenous races.
hi all
I think that stuff has went on world wide
Hi Cos
Hi cos. how are the kids?
g'day cos
OO, are you near fargo where the blizzards are
who is?
BBL
bye Liz
ignore the "who is" that was for an IM :)
Rose, did you get rid of all the old furniture
duly ignored, cos. how are you, mate?
Could I get a clue for st8, please?
next friday, pugs. at the mo', it's all in the garage, and the motorbike is out, under the veranda
I'm alright. You?

yes, i remember, pugs. hope he reads this and responds.
Rose, is Don having trouble too over all thats went on
Hi again. Fell asleep in my chair; just stopped in before going to bed. How is Everyone tonight?
not that it is apparent, pugs. i have been watching him...but he hasn't had the surgery, and he wasn't very close to my mum.
nef....hello
how are you doing?
Hi Nef--just dont fall out of the chair! lol
Is there a list anywhere?
poor nef. i hope you have what is left of your night in good restful sleep.
marc, lickety is up
nef, doing okay. but things are building again. seeing doc on thursday.
I have va4/7 and don't wanna look at the list but want to have at least 2 words each tile.. any help? :)
Don't worry about me sleeping; I seem to do quite well in that area once I lay down (and sometimes when I sit still too long
thanks
never mind found a vi4...

You are! LOL
lol, nef, night dear
is being in the ac helping you Rose
i think so, pugs. even just having the fan on is good. but the cooler is great. and it keeps me on the bed.
well maybe now you can really relax to mend like you should(and not just talking about the knee)
yeah, i know, dear. for both don and me.
you have a tv in there too
oh yeah, and a dvd player. tomorrow is supposed to be 102F.
wi5, please?
wi5, wi + double consonant + vowel

hey sir joso....i'm baaack. for as long as i last.

WTG ANITA!!! and hello hun. long time no see.
okay, i am also outta here. hope all who follow have fun with this grid. xoxox
hallooooo?
hello everyone
hello flosey
hmmmmm, has everyone left?
this is such a small grid that I guess everybody is finished
hi Ruby, I don't see you very often anymore
I finished last night - woke out of a bad dream so here I am
I think we play at different times and I play somewhat less these days
how are you, besides having bad dreams?
yes, I guess, I was in bed before midnight last night so I did get allmost 6 hours
I'm fine - have to go to Dr. today, and will have to pass his medical test which really is a memory and cognitive issues test
Husband is having severe cognitive issues but is otherwise healthy. It's very sasd to see as he was the sm***est man I ever knew
I failed it last time and have to repeat again this year - they're trying to get seniors off the roads, thus this test
he is still driving and does that surprisingly well
well I don't have any trouble with babble, and I also do Lumosity without too much problem
unfortunately, he never played any games, so I can't stimulate him with word or card games
I went to driving school and they took me out for a road test, I have a very positive letter from the examiner to take to my doctor who will send it it along with his results to the Dept of motor vehicles
... morning ruby .. morning flosey .... ...
morning dose
hello dose, nice to see you
they have no regulations here regarding older driver
ah, I remember my mother had to be tested but never asked her what exactly they were looking for at the time
I didn't like driving with her but the driving instructor told me I was a very good driver - went through it 2 years ago as well and he said the same then
... I don't know if it would work for you but you might take a look at "edx.org" ... it's a collection of university courses originally from Harvard and MIT which are : (1) free; (2) can be audited; (3) generally interesting; (4) not particularly challenging; (5) you can leave anytime you want at no cost; (6) they're not keeping track of how you do ... I've been doing one from Harvard on Chinese Culture and HIstory ... ... it's good mental exercise
this time he gave me a very positive letter to take to the dr. and which will also be forwarded to the Dept. of motor vehicles
I do the Lumosity tests, dose, are you familiar with them
... regrettably no
iit's more for cognitive issues, speed, and also memory
if interested, go the Lumosity.com
I I can ever get organized, it would be nice to take a course about horticulture, insets or fossils, all interests of mine
... those can be fun ... kind of like playing Babble ... it's work for the brain
yes
Flosey, I was interested in Lumosity but I think they charge too much.
the tests keep getting harder
(or maybe I should take one for typing or spelling lol)
hiya mimi
AARP has some free games on their site that are fun to play and also help keep brain sharp.
yes Mimi, they do charge - but anything to keep my drivers license
... I haven't seen any of those topics yet ... but there are a number of science ones ... I must admit that I look at the list of courses and get all kid in a candy shop like ..
((ruby))
<-- grew up in a candy store
... there's a jazz appreciation one that just started that I ran out of time for ... I think it was UTexas ..
I'll look into that, thanks dose
that sounds like something to pursue
... now if only I could spot some Babble words ... hmmmm
... the big thing is it's free ... no pressure ... if you can't find the time you just walk away and come back for another one later
I finished last night, just came in to see who was here
I saw course about procrastination for dummies ... but never got around to it ...
I haven't been able to drive for years now because my license is suspended until I pay off speeding tickets. My thinking is---I've driven since age 16 and have NEVER had an accident. The reason I've never had an accident is because no one can catch up to me...so they should forgive the tickets and give me a medal cause I'm saving lives!
ha ha o-o
Funny, o-o
ah mimi, I've had 2 speeding tickets but that was years ago, have been driving for 60 years
Now that I'm solvent again--finally--will probably get them paid off. I'd really like to rent a car occasionally to run errands and to take trips.
hen I was younger, I could talk my way out of speeding tickets....
ah ruby, you rascal
I was once driving over 100 MPH on an emptry autoroute in Florida and was able to talk my way out of it
Trust me, ruby, both of the ones I now have outstanding are in Michigan and they have NO compassion AT ALL...and love to set up speed traps.
I was late for an appointment and had missed my exit, etc. and it was the truth asnd the cute trooper believed me and gave me directions
one, I was clocked from an airplane - was a holiday long weekend, I was given a 'shortcut' home and got lost, so when I finally found the familiar highway (401 in Ontario) I was keeping up with the rest!!
the officer who stopped me, said he regretted that he had to ticket me because it was also recorded by the plane
I was driving to Mexico from LA one day with my then boyfriend who I was really angry with and just wanted to get where we were going so I could get away from him. I had an early Honda Civic and a motorcycle cop pulled me over (they must pace you there---no radar), came up to the car laughing and said "Lady, I'm going to put down that you were going 65 because if I put down what I REALLY clocked you at, they'll never believe me!
That was almost 40 years ago and the thought of that former boyfriend still gives me the creeps...he beat me up a couple of times.
I think women have an advantage dealing with troopers....
that was probably 30 years ago, for me
here, they never give chase, it's all done with cameras
the gendarmes only give seatbelt tickets at traffic circles. They do it every couple of months for the revenue, I think
Unless the trooper is a woman, ruby...then you're toast!
I've never seen a woman trooper, certainly not in Florida or NY
(not necessarily, mimi)
we have had cameras, don't know if they're still used, was never had a problem with those
my son who is a florida state trooper works with 6 female troopers!
(omit that 'was' in comment)
husband has gotten tickets via the cameras but I drive very slowly here because the roads are narrow and the other drivers unpleasant
lady, it' been a while since I left FL
there are a lot more of them now - used to be a good ole boys club!
bye everybody, time for the NYT and the fire
Many women in law enforcement these days. I used to think they didn't get paid much but here in Phoenix the city police start out at $56,000 a year which I think is a pretty good starting salary. They earn every penny.
and they were good ole boys, indeed!
have been in BC for almost 20 years, never had a ticket or been stopped
I think that would be a scary job, especially in Florida where everybody has a wepon.
yes, worry all the time
*woof* y'all
bye ruby
Ruby, you see people here in the wild west with guns in holsters on their hips---no kidding...scary because it's legal.
I'm sorry to have mentioned it, but I am very personally cowardly....
Hate these little grids....they usually have sharp teeth..this one is no exception.
gm, everyone! stats for the lone T 5th column?
... t4/4/
Gotta get to work. Have a good one, everybody!
you have a good day Mimi, thanks
hagd, mimi

hi there Carly, I hear we almost had an opportunity to meet in TO
17 to go. nbt. nbs.
name that proper noun! major hotel chain

'jumps up and down - I won'
hurshy great to see you back - where have you been hiding
in a closet
great place to hide - glad you are back - we have all missed you
and how are you, river?
I am great....enjoying my new kitties....life is good!
new kitties? do tell
my back seems to be doing much better since my second injection
what do they inject?
I adopted brothers - 10 year old - angora/maine coon cat mix. They are black with a white medallion on their chest. Very affectionate!
nice
Hello all. Good to see you back here, Hurshy. I asked about you the other day.
I have had 2 epidural steroid injections as I was diagnosed with a herniated disk that is pressing on the nerve. Constant pain down my butt and let - much better now after the injections.
*squeal* River--smooch them for me.
Hi Scrabbs
not to be all controversial or anything, but, have you tried a chiropractor?
they are such loves - but do wait me up in the middle of the night for a neck rub.....my Sammie started kneading my shoulder and purring loudly so I wake up....
Sweet, River. They love you!
I have been seeng a chiro regularly for years. She keeps everything else in balance but has not been able to do anything for the hernation
*wake
ah. well good that the injection is helping. i think a happy union of chiro and regular medicine is good. i dislike when they are down on each other.
Actually I see 2 different chiropractors that use different techniques. I will try anything before going into surgery.
I agree with you hurshy
and my boys squeeze me in at night too - one on each side of me - hard to roll over sometimes but I do love them
yeah - i didn't realize all the various things that can happen with even routine surgeries. i had my tonsils out and then started having migraines - my friend the headache specialist said likely it was a reaction to the general anesthesia. even though, i'd had general before when i had my wisdom teeth out. you just never know what can happen.
the changes of bleeding and infection are much greater too. If I need it I will get it but will try the alternative first.
*chances
my typing is horrible today - sorry
and that poor girl in california whose parents have been keeping her on machines even though she's dead - THAT was just a tonsil/adenoid surgery!
I did not hear about that - that is terrible. YOu never know what kind of allegic reaction you may have....
That girl had a severe post-op hemorrhage.
i knew the doc would know
good morning all
Well, from what I have read the grandmother used suction equipment to suck some oozing blood in the girl's mouth, reached back to far, caused massive hemorrhage. The truth???
Hi wv
I have 8 left but must get back to work. Have a great day everyone. Great to see you back Hurshy.
hello Scrabs
hi and bye teach
Bye river
hagd river
the GRANDMOTHER? why would she be doing medical stuff?
when my dad was in the surgical icu, we could... rub his feet... bring him ice chips later after he woke up... talk to him... not use any medical equipment
Apparently she was at the girl's side.
I had to run suction for my mother when she had a stroke because the nurses just couldn't keep up. Not a pleasant experience especially at age 21.
Are you seeing the new panther waving hello icon? I just changed it.
Scary time, Mimi.
Yes, I see the panther, Mimi
Yep, Scrab...she never recovered. She was actually my grandmother but raised me from age 5. Really wish I had her around now---I appreciate her so much more at this age.
But she would be 116 today.
OK--back to work for me. Just took a break to play a bit. Have a great day, everyone!
wow
well i'm done and off, bye all
help with single T in right column please
I miss my grandparent's very much--my mother's parents came from Italy over 100 yrs ago and I would love to talk to them now.

Hi, all. Happy Monday. *grumble snort snort*
trentsnana - I'm attending my cousin's daughter's wedding in Jackson Hole in August and am thinking of driving out from Connecticut and doing the national park circuit - Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, Jellystone, Arches, Bryce, Zion, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, etc. Maybe do a bit of camping, but would love to stay on some of the classic lodges. Any suggestions?
Nice to see you again, Hurshy.
chj - for the grand canyon area, i recommend the best western thunderbird lodge - it's central to grand canyon, bryce, zion and escalante. i set up base (they have microwaves and mini fridges in the rooms) would love to have stayed at the north rim lodge but it was booked solid when i went
Thanks lynnet - The north rim lodge was on my list of places to check out. unfortunate;y, I think it will be difficult to plan the trip down to exact days when I'd like to stay at specific places. We'll be staying flexible, so it's hard to make reservations in advance.
Sorry, chj, was occupied elsewhere. As far as lodges, I am not sure. We always camp with our 5th wheel. Are you going to Yellowstone and Grand Teton, too? Those are two of my favorite National Parks. Absolutely gorgeous.
there is a "hostel" in Teton Village that was very economical but nice accomodations. picnic tables outside to eat breakfast and watch the hang gliders come down in the field right next to us. Make sure to take the tram to the top of the mountain to play in the snow
If the camping in Yellowstone is full, go out the west entrance and stay in camp grounds in Idaho - right nearby
Absolutely. Since the wedding is in Jackson Hole, we'll probably do Jellystone and Grand Teton prior to the wedding then head south to Utah and Arizona. If you had only one day each in Jellystone and Grand Teton, what would be your things to do or places to see?
If you make it to Cody, Wyoming, you will want to check out the Irma Hotel. It's not elegant, but a lot of history there. Also, they have a gunfight in front of it in the street every night. It's a little cheesy, but fun to watch.
In the Tetons would take the tram to top of the mountsain - take the boat ride across the lake and take the hike up to the falls
Grand Tetons - just the view of the Tetons across the lake is a must-see. In Jellystone (Yellowstone??!!) I would definitely see Old Faithful, which is not real far from the Tetons.
Have to see Old Faithful and then take a circuit drive around to the various geyser basins
We are thinking of taking a trip up to Alaska this summer, if our home in Montana sells by early summer. We will be going to Banff and Jasper in Alberta and then taking the Alcan Highway up to Alaska. Sure hope it all works out. It should be an amazing trip!
I love to travel. Whatever you end up doing, chj, I hope you have a fantastic time.
I know I will. After not travelling for over 15 years, I'm getting back in the swing. Went to the Swiss Alps, Lake Como, Milan, Chamonix, and Paris last September. Had a fabulous time. Love the mountains.
Oh - and one more thing. If you can fit it in, the Beartooth Scenic Highway, which goes from Red Lodge, MT to the northeast entrance of Yellowstone is absolutely gorgeous. So much fun! You need about a half day to a full day to really check it out.
Well, if you love the mountains, you will love the Beartooth Pass that I just mentioned. We live about 40-45 minutes from there. I'll bet I've been acrossed it at least 10 times.
Charles Kuralt named it as one of the top 10 scenic byways in the U.S. and may have been his favorite.
One problem with the national parks is that they are getting very crowded. Even lesser known ones like Devils Tower - which is spectacular. Finding a camping spot, even finding a parking space can be difficult.
We haven't been out of the states much as of yet. Plan to go to Thailand next year to see where our son-in-law grew up. Soooo looking forward to that.
I'll check it out on my Atlas. I've ordered a new car that should arrive in a month or so. My first convertible, so I can't wait
You are right teach. We usually go to Yellowstone during the week, since it is so close to us. We also go during the winter time, when only the northern road is open. It is still beautiful and you see a lot of wildlife.
We are going snowmobiling over Valentine's weekend at the park. We will be based in West Yellowstone. We are doing the snow coach for one day inside the park and then snowmobiling just outside the park for two days. Am very much looking forward to it!
We have spent lots of time in the Tetons and love going back there. So many different kinds of things to do. Just east of Jackson Hole is the Granite Creek Campground which has a naturally heated (hot spring) swimming pool. Can usually view wildlife and beautioful snow covered peaks while relaxing in the pool.
Will have to check out that campground sometime. Thanks!
Reminds me of swimming in the Alta Peruvian Lodge swimming pool on St. Patrick's Day with a green beer in hand and snow accumulating on the top of my head.
Ha - fun!
Fireworks!
I really envy you guys. Have been all over the US but never to those beautiful places, all the big cities.... Have only seen Grand Canyon from a plane at 12,000 ft
WTG Judi
and I'll never have the chance now
yay judi
I've only seen it from a plan, too, ruby. Hopefully will get to see it from the ground someday.
*plane
Has anyone done any rafting on the Colorado? From what I've read, it's takes more than a day or two to do that
Sorry to hear that, ruby. We are hoping to get some traveling in while we are relatively young. We know that someday we won't be able to anymore. We are fortunate that so far both of us are healthy and we have the means to do it right now.
Nope, haven't rafted there - only here in Montana.
luckily, we both travelled a lot when we were working, husband more than me. So I shouldn't complain.
I just miss American food
My husband did the Colorado with a group from a conference years ago. We did the Snake River in Utah more recently.
Well, at least you did do it. Some dream of it and are never able to. I feel very lucky.
seize the day, nana
as for white water rafting, I think I would have passed, ven young lol
oh, it's fun ruby! I haven't done a lot of it - once in North Carolina and here in Montana, but it's very enjoyable. I don't go on the really wicked ones, though.
The Snake and tghe Colorado are more float" trips than white water - at least where we were. Come to West Virginia for white water rafting.
WV is a beautiful state, too, that I would like to explore more. Maybe after we move back to Michigan, we can take some time down there.
Yes do it while you can. When I was in Chamonix in September, hung out for a few hours where the paragliders take off from Plan du Aiguille du Midi. For 100 euros they will take on a tandem ride over a glacier and down into the Village of Chamonix. Time didn't permit me to do it, but I'm plannibng on going back soon and do it.
Sounds beautiful.
we live about 1 hr 10mins from Chamonix and these mountains are beautiful!
chj - you can do it when you are in the Tetons - they take off from the top of the tram and float down to the valley below. Beautiful memories (and pictures) of beautiful colors coming down right over us. You could do it tandem with an instructor
My great grandfather came over from France. The family name was Bourdeaux and they changed it in the U.S. to Bhirdo. So sad they didn't leave it as it was!!
So, would love to visit France someday.
t
This was my third trip to Paris, which I dearly love. Only had a day and a half this trip, but am planning another trip to Chamonix, Paris, Giverny, Normandy beaches, Mont Saint-Michel with my sister next fall
*sidles up next to trentsnana at the million dollar cowboy bar in jackson hole*
Sounds wonderful!
Hey Welki! I have been in there, too, sitting on the saddle bar stools. Neat place.

Yes it is truly fabuolous country. my sister lives in Emigrant so I am more likely to go to that area now. She used to live in Billings.
We've only been here 6-1/2 years. But moving back to Michigan. There's a grandchild there pulling at our heartstrings. Face time and videos are nice, but not like being there! We will be back to visit every year, though. Have made a lot of friends and will miss them dearly.

Hello, Annie :-)
Hi zooz, nice to see you
And you too :-)
:)
Hi there
Hello' Bichon :-)
hello, babblers
Hi bichon and Owl
How's everything going in Babble land.
Hello,TO :-)
Almost finished :-)
I did something really dumb yesterday. While I was backing the car out of the garage, I flipped up the sun visor. I accidentally touched the door opener button and the thing came crashing down on top of the car. No damage to the car, but I have to get a replacement panel on the door. Big bucks
Thank goodness you weren't hurt
Oh dear, Bichon, Does sound costly indeed.Glad you were not injured though.
Have done that Bichon, but was able to bend the door back into shape.
It's amazing the car wasn't damaged. It hit with the weather stripping so it was a cushion
It doesn't look great, but good enough.
I was also amazed that the car was intact.
It will close in the mean time, but there's no weather stripping
It feels really dumb, but could happen to anybody, reaaly.
The sensor probably went right under the body of the car
sorry for your woos, Bichon.
You, know, we never wondered about that.
I'll bounce back
I'm baking a cake
does anyone have a clue for the 1st sm 5/14?

we have snow. we had 2+ nuisance inches sat night, enough to cancel plans
actually, that is a lie as we did yesterday but because it was wet, it didn't settle
bitter cold coming again for a couple of days
that's a shame, i hope you weren't suppose to be out dancing
i hate the cold
i hope you don't get too much more and are wrapped up warm indoors :)
i was, and i fear i caanot dance again till nearly the end of february.
but i will still attend and listen to the music.
i am just glad i have a place to live and can afford to heat it. better than many

"there is nothing to writing". " All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed" - Ernest Hemingway
Hi all :)
Crossy, I enjoyed your turtle puzzle :)
ty,lizlin. I knew it would be right up your alley:)
Not as hard as some of them! But I loved the theme.
I am loving Jigidi!
Glad to hear that, phan. Me too!
I put a new puzzle up yesterday - a freshwater croc from a local wildlife reserve.
is your name Lizlin on jigidi?
Yes, phan
Yipes, got distracted...so guess I'd better head out...anyone need clues/stats before I go?
Enjoy your evening Jilly
I will look for your puzzles
I hope you enjoy them.
Thanks all *poof*
I am sure I will!

yaaa for liz!
hey everyone, a Bob added me on fb, do you guys know who that is? or is that one of you? i'm guessing he's a babbler cos we have Mimi as a mutual friend
way to go, Liz!
Thanks. Any clues before I go?
No idea who Bob is - but I wouldn't add him as a friend, even if Mimi is a mutual friend - unless Mimi says it's OK.
I have a new jigidi pic. it is called "lighthouse"
not one of my own this time, but still pretty
dinner time.
dinner time.
will check it out, Crossy
Bookmarked your new puzzle, Crossy. Look forward to it!
I've also just added another puzzle (larger and smaller versions) of the ancient Roman town of Verulamium, near London.
i am done!
OMG...Liz...who is this Bob? My ex is named Bob.
Rows...don't add Bob if that's my ex---trust me.
Am here tonight through a bit of a martini haze...had issues arise today that I was not prepared emotionally to deal with....so glad you guys are here.
((mimi))
((crossy)) dear.
Hi Mimi - sorry you've had such a sh** day.
I will browse your new puzzles lizlin:)
Congrats pen :)
Hope you like them Crossy - suddenly occurred to me to look back at pics I took before I left England!
Liz, I am one tough old broad but the real heart of me is easily accessed...sometimes to my detriment.
i am about half way through one of my own "snowy fence" then will check out your goods as it were:))
I know what you mean - a friend used to say I had a wall around me but was soft-centred!
How are you finding 'snowy fence' Crossy? Quite tough?
Perfect, Liz---we are peas in a pod.
snagged your roman ruins for my next one:)
bout middle of the road as to difficulty liz
Verulamium is an awesome place. It's wonderful walking about amongst the remains. It's about 30 mins from where I used to live.
it's the trees that I find so difficult!
i picked the 475:)
Isn't it just remarkable that many of us are so far apart geographically but so close together emotionally? I love this community.
the room is always brighter with you in it, mimi:)
Oh, crossy---that's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me...thank you so much.
True Mimi - but then I guess that generally those similar minded ones are the ones with whom we chat!
now, don't get all mushy or i shall have to make you a crossy martini
I also generally pick the larger puzzles but sometimes, if I don't have too long, might choose a small one.
Cheers, crossy!
Mimi is allowed to get mushy if her day's been rubbish!
salut! ein prosit, bottoms up, here's to the other 'arf!
I'll join you in a virtual toast! 10.15 am is a bit early to start!
Have a good evening everyone - off to start the day! Hugs.
lord of the rings fans, if you are very brave, and take that first step on the path outside your door, check out my Middle Earth puzzle as well:)
tc liz
I really appreciate your support, everyone. Such a special place....thank you. Now going to make dinner as food is probably a good thing right now. Am mourning the eminent end to a 44-year friendship that has become toxic to me..not easy.
I looked at that one - love Lord of the Rings :) Really bye for now!
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today?

hello sue
hi wv!
evening all...here to hopefully finish...
and now it is time for crossy's tidbit of the day!!. here are some very interesting pictures of the White House from the mid 40,s to early 50,s when it underwent a total renovation to prevent total structural failure!
http://tinyurl.com/p3wjbqo
hi pini and crossy!
suze!!
would someone please clue the st8?
Hello, Parnelli. How is your lead foot doing?
st8 = most of "hay" + "squished" potatos :o)
It's doin' great, o-o!
ST 8 - most of horses bedding + ****ed potatoes (how it was clued earlier)
how are you doin'?
Depends on who you talk to.

thanks wvteach
I am my usual half center off level, with no acute distress ...
so, same-same, eh? :)
Pretty much. Have you gotten to do any snowboarding?
no...we were supposed to go this past weekend, but, alas, no snow :(
did make a 225m ride on the scooter :)
You just a wild and crazy gal ...
pretty much too cold to go outside here, and the roads are terrible, so we've been staying in
that's me, alright!! LOL
sorry to hear, sue! hope it warms up soon! :)
colder tomorrow but then it's supposed to get back to "normal"
fireworks! Went pretty fast once I listed...
yeah, sue!!! 4 more to go here and, you're right, going pretty fast with the list :)
congrats sue
Wind Chill-28°F ... warming trend
12 left here - we have two more days of extreme cold and then Thursday is supposed to start warming up
yikes, o-o....a bit on the cooooooold side, eh?
we're supposed to be -22 in the morning (temperature, not wind chill), then it gets back to zero by Wednesday or so
Mother Nature has the wind all riled up.
<-- thankful that I live on the west coast right now! ya'll are cooooold!
...even Alaska is warmer than y'all!
yesterday was pretty crazy here - it wasn't super cold (single digits) but VERY windy, lots of blowing snow, zero visibility, so they were trying to get people not to go out - too many cars off the roads
yes, Frank was complaining about the temperature and I suggested we could move to Alaska as it is warmer than here :-)
I remember weather like that...glad it's a memory! (*sending warm thoughts to you guys out there*)
NWS: WIND CHILL VALUES WILL FALL BACK INTO THE 40 BELOW TO 50 BELOW ZERO RANGE AFTER SUNSET AND WILL PERSIST THROUGH NOON TUESDAY.
ready to enter my last word
HOLY COW, o-o....ever considered wintering in AZ?
git'r dun, Jen!
25 to 35 below here, o-o, not quite as cold as you but still pretty nippy
done
wtg, jen!
yay jen!
what makes it worse is the winds!
ty in
Good way to trim my beard .... breath awhile and give the beard a whack.
sorry pin
we're south of the Mason - Dixon Line (by about a mile) and so in the "South" - only -7 for tonight and -10 for tomorrow night
:o)
does anyone have the snow? we don't
No snow here ..
had the snow earlier this morning
<-- no snow here (although we did have about 10 days worth back at the beginning of Dec)
yes, we are snow-covered
probably about 6" on the ground although with the winds it's hard to tell
we are definitely snow-covered though our road was cleared today - finally
and Parnelli Pup needs dinner...brb
have about 8 - 10 inches on the ground - luckily haven't had a lot of wind
I am taking a financial week off from work
Definitely LOTS of snow and frigid temps here in New York
looks like we will be in the snow "gap
(back)
"gap" here in DC, but it will be down to zero tonight
it won't get UP to zero here until Wednesday
we were in the 50s yesterday and then the bottom dropped
Oh cool. "Can You Top This?" *Makes popcorn* : D
LOL Molly
haha, o-o always wins, though :-)
** finito ** last word MA 5/12

wi +double consonant + vowel
thx min and sue...monkeys didn't try the dbl
ok...1 more...let's try this...is the wo5 a "common" word...or do the monkeys need more help than that?
the wo5 is a total fish, pini
*SPARKLERS*
you SHOULD find it
(it's so a fish!!!!!!!!)
*slapping forehead*
yay pini!
and it was my last word too :-P
:)
Do you have your help up to speed now, Pini?
Congratulaitons Pinikula on your fireworks!Hooray for you!
WTG!!! pini.....thnx o-o
Sure do, o-o! Now just have to wait for the next grid :)
I will make it 3 times a charm and join Pinikula & wvteach with fireworks.
wtg min ;)
I am finished! I have fireworks! sm 6/24 was my final word
Of course no one can type 100 words per nanosecond like you do, Pini.
I'm not really THAT fast!! LOL
yay min!
You type the response before I finish the question
I did?
I will be here off & on to give clues for a little while longer
Hi all.
How are the grands doing Pini?
hi bfsog!
They're doing good...now 4 and 13!
I used to be a regular on here years back, and then life happened! I am back more now though
wb bfsog
Wow ... before you know it, they will be even older.
Hello bfsog! How are you doing today? Welcome to the grid
no kidding, o-o, everytime I turn around, they've gotten bigger...the elder is almost as tall as I am!!! (and I'm tall!!!)
Does your little bowser have any gray whiskers, Pini?
Oh, he's growing, too...a little grey in the eyebrows, but otherwise holding up :)
I bet he is still enjoying the front row seat on your travels.
Actually, he prefers the back seat...even when I try and coax him to front. But he does still take a position back there so he can see out the front window! :o)
Do you still enjoy running the university, Pini?
I'm more in the complaints department...I can come with a boat load that they just don't think are problems at the user level...but, then again, they're not the user, so it doesn't affect them...therefore, it must work!
LOL
They need a course in empathy.
what they need are braincells that work!!!
hmmm .... more serious than I thought ... of course putting "thought" in a sentence is being presumptuous
good point! touche'
I am good thank you. Years back I developed a computer program to help Babblers, I just developed it again. There is info on it in my bio but in short you enter a lickety clue such as sh5,14 and it will list all of the possible words which match that.
interesting, bfsog! does it factor in the letters that are in the grid, too? or does it list all possible words that start with those 2 letters at that length?
Currently it lists all words, whether or not letters in a word are in the grid or not. It is a work in progress
Very cool...everything helps, you know! :o)
Yes exactly, even if you did not know/want to know Lickety's clues but wanted a little help, you could just filter all words beginning with ha by enteirng 'ha', or for a specific length, 'ha5'
...or in those moments when no one else is around :)
Words not in the grid are fastidious about avoiding inclusion in my word list ... seems to be a form of OCD
poor, o-o! Something must be done about that! :o)
hey all!
hiya STID!
bfsog! pini! o-o! :-D
hi stid
Hello stidmama! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
hey Min! looked like a nice small (but apparently not easy) grid.
Oh, easy enough.
so we have a fireplace now, and tomorrow the power gets hooked up. And then drywall. And then... *dares not hope*
congras, Stid! So good to hear!
and pini, sue might visit this summer, if she does we'll set up a meet! :-D
most awesome, sis!
ALSO ALSO, Tom and I are taking a week this summer to visit my grandfather (and some plays)... we'll let you know when we are coming your way.
absolutely!
how are things down your way? the grad students behaving themselves? *stern mama look at grad students*
doing fine, but I'm giving up babysitting...rather than rely on them to correctly register every term...we're instigating a "mandatory registration day" where they'll have to come to my office in a 2-hour window to make it happen the right way!! LOL
Good for you! Sounds like a win-win -- after all, people at that level should be able to figure out how to read a schedule, right? *cynical-sarcastic-ironic roll of eyes*
One would think so especially its spelled out (in a chart, no less) in the manual they get when they arrive...if only they took the time to READ the darn thing! :)
yep. irony. These are ENGLISH majors... "if they took the time to READ" roflmao
(i.e., this term we had 2 3rd-year student forget to register at all!) *rolling eyes*
or, as I managed to get Matthew to say, "roffle-mow"
...what does that mean?
rolling on floor laughing my (delicacy forbids) off
*wicked mama grin*
non-compliers should be scheduled for a week of kp
well, aren't they the creative one! LOL
good idea, o-o!
too bad we don't have that many dishes! :(
host tea parties... make dishes!
Should make them cater our events...at their cost!
that's a good idea, too
...and make them clean it up, too!
ok, then have them count the dots on ceiling tiles to ensure none are missing
now, o-o... you know how many of them would try!
Perhaps I should make them stand with their nose in a corner during the time it takes me to audit their registrations while simultaneously doing my regular work, too...they'd end up standing there for an entire day...and then have them take care of the payroll it took me to do it!
oh no --- don't let them anywhere NEAR numbers... *book-keeper past catches up*
Oh, they wouldn't touch the numbers, just have to come up with the pot to cover the payroll...
Besides, if they can't READ, I'm pretty sure they can't do MATH either!
LOL
oh, *grin*
no matter how many times I type it, "ashram" is just NOT going to work, is it? *sigh*
need any clues, stid?
don't think the ram enjoyed it
WI 5 CLUE PLEASE
down to 22, haven't listed yet.
LOL probably not, o-
wi + dbl cons + vwl
hm... wi 5... *thinking*
it's a funny word, mkg, looks like an irish word for beer, only start with w
or italian for beer maybe
ends with the Egyptian sun god
(I had to ask for that one, too)
MORE CLUES PLEASE. NOT GETTING IT.

any other clues?
Otherwise, now that Parnelli Pup has had his dessert (orange slices)...I'd best take him "out"...
missing first sm 5 word. any clues?

that is the most interesting word in the grid. be sure you look it up!
Be well, Pini ...

I am wishing for a really big grid. 350+
oh god I hope not. I won't be here tomorrow
does anyone know how you find bfsog's tool mentioned earlier today in the chat?
I do not like grids with less than 100 words. they are tricky
