A lot of people do not understand this because they are not 100% understanding of the Deaf community but posts such as these are offensive to us. You see - to the Deaf community being Deaf is an identity (see how I captialize the D). Its kind of like gay conversion therapy to the Deaf community. I do appreciate the amazing techniques in these posts/videos though. I know people mean well by posting but it does make us feel cheap.

My philosphy is to teach younger kids signed exact english and convert to asl i high school so they have a good grasp of the english structure. that is what I did.
I certainly wouldn't discourage learning ASL, of course! I wish I was better at it myself, as is I can finger-spell (slowly) and that's not very effective for communicating with my handful of deaf clients...we usually end up passing a notebook back and forth.

I would love it if America was more inclusive of American Sign Language. As a country, we seem to pay more attention to people who speak foreign language than our own citizens. Sad.

She is used to looking after herself and confines bird catching to the front garden while the birds are fed at the back. She never goes near our pet birds or our hens.
