Clues are up
Hi Flosey! Windy over there?
thanks Lickety
yes Saan, quite windy - we were sitting out on the deck listening to the wind in the trees
we back into a heavily treed hill and I love the sound
hi and nbt
you are right in front of the water, aren't you? that must have the same effect
exactly the same here. Are your arbutus trees healthy? We have a terrible blight
Hi Josh, good to see you
we just chopped one down in the front, same thing
anyway, onward to the grid...
yes, good luck
I just got rid of a few last week! Which is why I was paying careful attention to the wind..
good luck to you too. Ru must have finished while we've been chatting!

HI ALL
Am I home alone?
no, dear. i am here. how are you, sweetie?
I'm good, Rose. I thought you were going to lie down for a bit.
i was, and then my mobile phone rang, from Dodo, a dumb phone service provider.
I was busy earlier helping my husband try and fix a dripping aircon. Hopefully he tweaked the right thing.
i hope so too, nothing worse than a dripping aircon. was it inside the house?
Yes, in the living room. Still have the bucket on the bar just in case.
How is your renovation coming along?
Hi all :)
ugh, dianne. i hope itisfixed, and gives you some respite from the heat.
my renovation has stalled at the moment due to me concentrating on returning to work. once things settlea little, i will get back on the horse, so to speak, and crack the whip. lol, talk about mixed metaphors..*giggle*
hey ya liz. thanx for answering so quickly. xoxox
Hi Liz
Dianne. Rainbow Bay is probably my most favourite place in the world! We got married there!
It looks very charming.
It's away from the hustle of the main tourist areas.
Just got the word from "Froggy pluck your magic -------". Boy am I dating myself.
Have to admit I just googled that! Had the 5 letter root, though!
It probably wasn
....wasn't on Australian tv.
I come from the UK but perhaps it wasn't there either.
It was sponsored by Buster Brown shoes.
Goooooooooood morning fellow Babblers!!! xx
Hi worz :)
Hi worz
Hey Liz xx Dianne xx
Taking a break. Not liking this grid :(
well i've got 6 words so far and i'm already fed up with it lol
Ha, I immediately found ALPACA and ATTIC...hmmmm.
Yes i tried Attic too..lol
I have to say I'm getting quite annoyed with this grid - every time I type in a word it's a bloomin' phantom - must have found about 8 so far!!
good morning all :)
Good morning Sprite x zoo x and lizmac x
Hi zooz. Good to see you. Really wanted to give you long distance hugs and my condolences.
Hello everyone :-)
Hi sprite. Hugs
...and that's all I can find, off to do something productive, like...like...like um fold my dish towel.
glad to see you in babble, zooz. *hugs*
Thanks, Liz, I am having a me hour or so lol
Paying more attention to Aussie masterchef than this horrid grid!
better than nothing, anyway, zooz... must have been few and far between so far.
lol I llike your style, Lizmac..lol
Yes has been hectic so far, Sprite, is it bad of me to think I will be glad when the day has come and gone as I feel bad for thinking that but it is true.
no that is not bad at all, it is normal, zooz. Don't blame yourself.
Well not glad but relieved i think would be a better description.
Don't know if you've "seen" pugs zooz, but she asked me to send hugs too.
Zoo I have just read in your profile. Sending mine and Di's deepest condolences and warm wishes for you and your family xx
Yes thanks, Liz, She has been sending me lovely e-cards through email :-)
napalm
Thank you, Worzel :-)
pugs is such a dearheart

She is very kind hearted is our , Pugs, bless her.
ah, zooz, how are you holding up, mate? i would have contacted you directly, but i don't think i have your email addy. please know my prayers are with you and your family.
{{hugs}} morning my darling sprite.
*hugs rose*
Hello, Rose, thank you :-)
zooz, if it's okay. could you please email me? my addy is in my profile. will understand if you don't.
Will do :-)
maplar - cross between a maple and a poplar
Add it, sprite :)
ok :)
canapa.....question asked by grandkiddie
lollll love it
Lol
nice thought sprite, a poplar which changes to all those glorious colours, and produces the most marvellous syrup the world has ever tasted.
Ok sent, Rose.
added. Yes rose, I'd be all for it. Especially if they could grow in our climate :)
thanx, mate. ipromise not to bug you. but it is nice to be able to be in touch every now and again.
phantoms: alpaca, attic, canada, ample
I have been getting into 70% chocolate strong but rather nice only small amounts at a time though otherwise it is way to much.
I tried attic too, Sprite, earlier.
awesome, zooz. I know how good that tastes. It is good for you too in small amounts, did you know?
good to know I am not alone in the phantom struggle here :)
I did hear something about over 65% is good for you in small dosages but not sure what the benefits are though.
and yay, zooz. you have a gmail account which means we can googletalk. but not right now. i am sure you have too much on your plate as it is. btw, how is mother?
She is coping..we have been keeping her busy with space for her to cry. I went with two of my sisters to get some clothes for the day...It is very mentally exhausting.
dark chocolate benefits range from improving vascular function to increasing insulin sensitivity. Lowering bloodpressure. New research suggests that beneficial bacteria that reside toward the end of our digestive tract ferment both the antioxidants and the fiber in cocoa.
it is, mate. i hope you find some peace in between times. you poor, love. and poor mum. her heart must be breaking.
it really is, zooz. And once the day has come and gone, it will be like falling into a deep hole. Know that we think of you a lot and have your back through this *hug*
Back again x
Sounds like dark chocolate is like a medicine a yummy one..lol
yes, really sounds like it. And a little bit is enough to satisfy me too.
phantom: candida (thank God)
wb worzel...*grin*
ty Mum xx
even aqua is a phantom today
and panic
hey rolin :) Yeah, that one too.
10 more for nbt lol and i've got 32 words so far. I usually wait until 1/2 way until I open Lickety, but today I am sorely tempted!!! This is horrendous!
Oh good one, Rolin!
g'day rolin. are you good today, hun?
am over halfway, but speedily going nowhere.
That is a lovely oxymoron sprite - speedily going nowhere lol
:)
im fine granny... its the second last day of my half term break...and its finally stopped raining...
awww poor rolin, lol. Once back at work and the sun will come out.
you can bet on it sprite....*sigh*
of course, rolin. just as you are about to go back, the weather becomes nice enough to go out and do things.
lololol, snap sprite.
:D
i don't know why we bother talking at all.
cuz it is fun :) I love your voice, through chat or otherwise.
oh, lord, i can see it in my mind. sprite and i sitting there over coffee, and all we will do is look at each other and burst out laughing.
you can bet on that, lol. We are bound to drive the rest crazy.
and no effort needed.
am gonna enjoy it so much. Be sure to reserve some time to spend in the netherlands, rose... we want to show you some of our good places :D
you can count on it, sprite.
awesome. Will cancel each and every other appointment. Am gonna enjoy it to the hilt. My love is positive about taking your love canoeing.
*giggle* just taught my love something. he didn't know calcium is a metal. he really shouldn't dispute stuff to do with the human body. especially the weirder aspects.
hahahaha silly man. He should know by now you are an expert in that area
Tsk only now do I see a yellow bird staring at me in the grid.
roflollll zooz indeed
a yellow bird, a fairy queen, a farmer's weather predictions... weird grid
and canal is a phantom but not
Not enjoying the As at the moment.

I been doubling the pain meds and its not touchingit---I have to ask God for strength to make the last three hours each day--:(
wb rose, lol. Toad in a hole?
I hate toad in the hole, yet Yorkshire puddings - could never get enough of Yorkshire puddings! Di loves toad in the hole so I might bite the bullet and make one for her - never made a batter mix, apart from pancakes, so that should be a laugh!
Yorkshire puddings with sausages, Sprite.
Delish.
suasages baked in yorkshire pudding. it is divine. we all love it.
*hugs pugs*
ok... I must look it up then. For me, pudding is something sweet you eat for dessert, lol.
Zoom-have you talked to Liz
ummm, i am hoping to get your care package off tomorrow pugs.
You can eat yorkshire pudding with jam on it too.
you are taking such good care of us, rose
can i get a clue for the al7 please? x
I spoke to lizlin earlier yes, Pugs, She passed on a message from you :-)
worzel, what sort of sausages do you use? i usually use beef, but i think pork would do well, also.
farmer's weather predictions, worzel, for instance
does it contain a new heart and back and heck a whole new mind and body-lol
lol
nm found it
god no, pugs. We love your heart and mind and body just the way it is.
Zoom, Liz wanted to send her Love and caring thoughts
worzel, a book/magazine with a year's dates of important events.
yvw :P Dem newbies already pulling peris on me, tsk.
Mum we must be psychically bonded - I always get the word just before you clue it lmao
thanks Rose, but Please dont over do it--Please
and my clue then? Hmmm?
pugs, stop those thoughts right now. you are perfect the way you are, just a little out of kilter.
amen to what rose says
*giggle* quick wor, say thank-you to the nice lady.
ty for your earlier clue too Sprite - just noticed it x
just a little? thanks guys lol
I saw your clue, Sprite :-)
lol, it is all good. And yay zooz, am glad :)
pugs, it's just a couple of things to help you, my dear. not a lot of expense incurred, please believe me.
just a little, pug. Enough to make you interesting. And more importantly, enough to click with rose and me :)
okay Rose, I think you a bunch
thanks Rose
you deserve it, pugs, never doubt it.
Iam glad you all think such nice thoughts about me--you are better at it then me----but I will work on it
fireflies. Jeezz what a tricky grid today.
((Puglet))
wtg sprite - don't think I'll be getting fws today!
I know you will, pugs, and it will become easier in time.
Congrats, Spritey!
congrat Sprite
I still need 17 more words to find.
sheer stubbornness on my part, worzel, tbh. I hate to leave words unfound. But this grid almost made me anyway.
let me know if you want clues, zooz
pugs you don't need to try to be warm and nice - you do it naturally. You are one of the warmest and kindest people that has ever crossed my path in life and we all love you very much xx
WTG SPRITE!!!!
good morning. Today is the start of a 4day Holiday here, including a "pont" (Friday off) for Ascension Day. And nobody goes to Church!
Good morning ruby xx
what worzel says, pug. Trust me, we can't all be wrong about you.
thanks Wor--Iam just going through a rough time and Im feeling down on myself--forgive me for my pity party junk
hello ruby, same here, 4 days off.
Morning Ruby, hugs
lol, and hello to you too, ruby.
Pug you pity away hun. We all of us have times when we need to let out some stuff, and that's what we're all here for - to let out our bad stuff and to listen to other people's bad stuff - and good stuff, when it happens. We are all here for each other. Let it out, girl!!! xx
what are you doing today Sprite
*holds pug* sweetie, you never do a pity party. Not even close. It is a really tough time for you and please keep telling us about it. We want to have your back through it all.
pugs, if you need to vent, then you need to vent. we ALL go through similar times. and you don't tell any of us off. so....please stop telling yourself off, okay?
brb - the gorgeous Di has awoken so I'm away to make her a cuppa sys *mini-poof*
am gonna tell you, pugs, but first read and memorize all our posts :) Amazing, the similarity.
later, worzel, and give her a kiss from me
I dont have time right now---I got to go shower and prepare for work
I think Di is in the grid today
almost sprite, just need an e instead of an a
ok :) Am doing laundry, shop for groceries, and drive my love and our daughter to Medemblik for a long weekend of camping out and canoeing. Then back home and have a very late dinner.
ah ok, rose
I love you all and hugs to you each--Rose,Sprite,Wor,Zoom and Ruby---did I get everyone? You all have a wonderful day
okay, pugs. please enjoy your day. xoxox
you too, pugs, and may your back go easy on you. *hugs*
sprite, it sounds and looks like a lot, dear. plenty of rests, okay?
oh yes, rose. Lots of rest in between. Oh, tomorrow is gonna be fun! Am invited to a ladies' night... like a tupperware party but with naughty toys and stuff.
so, just you and the boyo, sprite?
oh, it's tomorrow? well that dovetails nicely, doesn't it? i hope you enjoy it, sweetie. you need something nice to happen.
yes, my boyo is not going on the canoe trip. But he won't be home much, I think. On Sunday he will leave for the Unespo week, btw! Am so proud of him.
oh I will enjoy myself for sure! I think sex is one of the best inventions on this planet and I like having fun about it with a bunch of girls too. So that will work out just fine.
??? SPRITE. DID I MISS SOMETHING?
sorry....didn't mean to shout...lolol
lol yeah it dovetails too nicely. I have to drive my love and daughter because I need the car tomorrow.
miss what, honey?
unespo???
*groan* my fingernails are growing too fast. they need cutting again..
oh, I told you all, but it is a while back. Tim and his team made it through the national election some time ago. Next week is the international presentation. Which, alas for Tim, is held in the Netherlands this year. But still they get to stay in a very fancy hotel, and present their project.
i keep hitting the caps lock...
rose, I know it is a drag to cut them. But am SO glad to hear you have to :D Such progress, since the days you couldn't stop biting them from pain and frustration.
ah, yes, sprite, yes you did. as you said, it was a while back. yay, tim!! he's the man!!!
and it does say something surely, that i now have to cut the nails...when i look back, i realise just how far i have come. and it is good.
I know :D His teacher called us, to ask formal permission for Tim to attend and be away from home for a week. He told me that Tim was the reason they were elected to go to the international round. His presentation and his way of telling things about the project made the difference. I am so proud.
yes rose, it is sometimes hard to realise how much has changed for the good, isn't it. But it has and you did it. *hugs*
ok, must go now. *hugs* and lots of love to my friends. And may you all have a blessed day and a peaceful night.
:-) my darling. and can you look back and see how far you have come, hun?
enjoy your day, sweetie. and slowly, slowly.
oh yes, rose! Am wrapping up therapy now, as you know, and that is what we are doing... looking back and seeing how far I have come.
xoxoxox, dearest
ya, half and *woof*
yay for you ruby.
Just popping back to say hi and bye for now as I really need to go and clean the place! I hope you all have a wonderful and warm day/eventide wherever you may be celebrating it xx
night, worzel. i hope you enjoy your day. xoxox to you both
and i need to go also. i hope everyone enjoys the grid. good luck...and blessings.
good morning everyone
Morning all.
howdy, sukee, was getting lonely in here:)
Have to start off my day in here now, with my tea :)
have a tea going myself:) some nice Ceylon orange pekoe, brewed nice and strong
I like my tea stong too. I usually have coffe first thing but I'm out :)
yup strong enough to have to arm wrestle it for the teaspoon
Are you finished with school for the year?
nope. 3 more weeks of law class first
Not too long :)
then off till sept then 6-7 weeks of univeristy writers craft classes
That sounds like something I would like to take :)
It has been an amazing experience and i am really excited about the writers craft course
good morning!
howdy, enomis
Morning
Finding this grid a little tough
great day here! Puppy woke up at 5, made myself a nice cup of tea and outside we went to play. Can't start the day wrong when a puppy is so happy!
Aww. Welcome to the tea club :)
nope. A dog is a blessing in many ways
just noticed you guys were also talking about tea. Great minds think alike :)
wow lots of vowels in this grid - diving in...
ewww vowels
there are too many
hello nenia... I agree with you.
A few As :)
Ooh, I found a seven letter word
Good for you :)
Highest I have found yet is 6
it has three a's in it lmao
ooh i haven't found any sixes yet
don't. like. this. grid...
Yes, giving me a bit of a headache
Panic, alpaca, lots of phantoms
naiad
:'(
actor
panacea
found a 6 word - prosecutor
yesss
i found a q word
one left lajdsfjlsdfjks
ty enomis, can't believe I missed that one
q word = reservations, lingering doubts
I found the q words easily :)
what's the other one? >_>
*puppy eyes*
there's also the geometrical form without the first letter
OMG
i was looking at that but i wasn't sure it was a word

Strange person, variation on spelling of a pejorative term
ooooh
that makes sense
al7: bible for farmers
en6: to transport (fig.)
gotta go to work, have fun (well try to) with the grid!
byeee
Have a good day.
ty for farmers bible
I've gone to bubble expert early today
yaaa! just monkied a ti 7/28:)
I used to be a bubble expert, back when I drank more champagne : D
mmm, that will be the 25th time i have tried "alpaca" and sadly it still does not work:)
Naughty Nellie had a friend, And Molly was her name, Although they lived quite far apart, Their language was the same. Babble was their first connection; It rarely had an end, But in whatever odd direction, Their friendship will remain.
And hello
((ruby))
{{crossy}}
ruby is a poet!
Well, you know what they say about the definition of insanity...
*Loves Ruby's poems*
insanity is nothing but a judgement of the majority at any particular time
ty name and remain are a stretch....
Yes, but I was talking about the definition that goes "trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"
That is why they call it "poetic license" Ruby : D
ahh yes, well, as to that, that is just babble madness
I thihk that's the kind of rhyme they do in rap, just making th vowel sounds the same with little care for the rest
Mornin Babbleanders
Really? They rhyme in rap? I know they use "brutha" and "mutha" a lot, that's about it.
I can't believe I fell asleep last night with 14 word to go
{{bichon}} I've just been seeing your back lately
Morning Bich.
Yup, here again.
<-- actually knows nothing about rap
Ruby, you are better for that.
Me neither ruby. And happy to keep it that way
Okay time to make breakfast. BBL
we eat in restos that play American music from the 70's and 80's -- disco etc. Very funny
And you are not up on the table, dancing in your butterfly platforms? Shame on you.
I saw a charming movie on TV last night, Quartet (speaking of music), it had lovely music throughout
Give me Bach any day
<--loves those butterfly platforms
Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs
there was a little Bach, a lot of opera, some 30's English soft-shoe type music, and much much more
butterfly platforms?
And I recognized Tom Courtenay as an old man
Ruby has excellent taste in shoes.
shoes and booze. It's like they used to say about St. Louis, "First in booze, first in shoes and last in the American league"
It's so cold out, had to get out a fleece
Bich, our winter days gone by of ten degrees were cold. This is just delightfully cool. I love it.
When I headed out at 6 AM there was a definite nip in the air
Ruby, first in booze and shoes is good. Everything else will fall into place.
Here it's been about 50F at night and 70-57F in the afternoon. Perfect! And maybe I'll have fig this year. Picked the first strawberries yesterday
wa 4c this morn here ruby:)
was
brrrr
It's going to be sunny and in the 60's today. That means walks in the woods with fluffies
Fresh strawberries are a religious experience for me.
I was out at 5:30 and found it refreshing after the hot days we have had recently.
These were pretty small, but it was a lovely surprise. On the other hand, the tomato plant are tiny. I'm going to plant ome more net week
sorry for the bad typing, ttime to lie down
*woof*
A lot of people planted their tomatoes this weekend. I think the plants are probably in shock
I'm surprised your tomato plants are small, with all the rain you've had. Tomatoes like lots of water. Mine are huge.
It's been too cold. I've putt in 8 plant so far, in two batches Of the first 4 3 died. The second 4, 2 died. It's just too cold for them so far
I was too early, didn't listen to the locals
Usually, around here, Memorial Day is safe to plant tomatoes.
Tht's what they used to say in Binghamton
I've been lucky here, usually put them in in April and have so many that I give tthem away
Scrabbler planted hers this weekend. Wonder if the temps dipped there too
Wow, I feel fortunate. Mine have been in for a month.
You live in more southerly climes Molly
here, the rule of thumb is to never plant before May 24th. Think scrabby and I broke ground the same day
Cool weather won't hurt tomato plants, unless there is a hard frost.
Once tomatoes get that shock, it takes forever for them to recover
Really Crosshair, where do you plant tomatoes? On your balcony? Or do you belong to a coop?
Sorry co-op
I buy beefsteak plants already started and use pots. easy eh?
and mrs has this lovely herb jg that grows several at a time
jug
Some people have great success with patio gardening. I think it's all in how much sun you get.
it is amazing what you can grow without having 40 acres out back
yes, we get a lot of evening sun on ours
i get the big clay pots and use old half whiskey barrels from local distillery
drill some holes for drainage and put some 3/4 stone on the bottom and a good tri-mix
hello friends
howdy trif
howdy crossy.
I'm playing hooky today - wahoo!
yaaa for hooky!!
you know it, brother. Valentine and I are flying off to Denver today, and then road tripping around the area for three days. I am so excited!
I rarely use the patio for lounging about anyways, though there is a small patio table and two chairs. Over half of it is given over to potted pants and herbs.
denver. very cool
that sounds quite lovely crossy - A wee oasis
my beloved loves those herb jugs. they almost look like the old greek wine amphoras but have cuts up the side at random to plant different seeds
i love fresh chives and mint
Oh I know what you mean! Nice those
put on a pan of diced russet taters sizzling in butter, walk out onto the patio with a pair of scissors and prune the chives for breakfast;)
I have garlic chives in, they are good on baked potatoes.
I have a very wide balcony (37 ft) and I tried tomatoes but it is so windy up here sometimes that I got these thick skinned puny little tomatoes. Tried again the next year. same thing.
But garlice chives sound good, I might try that and put them in a sunny corner.
time to head to class. Take care all and happy babbling!
Annie, if you get the right amount of sun, you can grow herbs on a windowsill.
I face west and north. I only get the afternoon sun.
I am going to try cucumber this year. That should do well.
I used to work with someone who always had a bumper crop of cucumbers. I made refrigerator dill pickles with them once, they were wonderful.
My father used to pickle kirby and they were great too.
good morning all
hi teach
hello annie
We used to live in a house which had a large sunny space for a vegetable garden. When we moved here, 24 years ago, it's too shady to reliably grow veggies. Just have perennials
I grew cukes, but they attracted the cucumber beetle. Anything I grew, attracted that particular beetle
I know very little about gardening. I have flowers on the balcony and they do well despite the strong breeze at times. The breeze comes off the ocean.
The salt in the ocean air might have something to do with your luck with tomatoes. Maybe they can't tolerate that.
could be, Molly
I'm back
I have better luck with perennials, and they are easier to grow
Hello everyone

*waves* Hi, y'all!

Name that proper noun, actress Jessica, currently starring in American Horror Story.
Okay, let us go for an easier one. In the John Cleese movie, what a fish was called...
Lange!
Wanda

*Sigh* I miss Hurshy.
Me too!
Twanda is in the grid to make Kathy Bates happy too
Amazed you know that movie, ruru! Good one, though.
Did anyone find out what has happened with Hurshy?
Here it comes.....
Ru, you really know that movie well, for a guy who doesn't like chick flicks.
TOld ya so..lol
That's just one more thing we like about you, ruru!
I have not seen Hurshy here since she said she was being made feel uncomfortable by another player who was getting a little too personal with her.
One of your faves mimi
Whoa...I missed all that. I have backed off a lot, too, since a criticism that I was "overly concerned" in a not so nice manner.
Babble is NOT one of those sites. Too bad. I hope hurshy comes back on. Anyone know her email addy?
I did love your unarmed comment
that's too bad -- didn't know why hursh had disappeared :-(
Yep...love that movie. Also love Boys on the Side. Ruru, have you seen High Crimes? Great suspenseful movie with a surprise ending starring Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman.
*brings ruby slippers in for Annie*
<<<< Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman fan :-)
Thank you, ruru....I thought it was appropriate under the circumstances. I generally don't engage that person but couldn't help it. However, that's not the incident I'm talking about. I'd never let him drive me away.
ruru, am I being niave? Damn, I could never spell that word
Me neither..but then i dont post pictures of myself in a bathing suit either
naive?
No, you're not naive, Annie....most of us feel that way, I think.
YEs annie you are
Oh dear, I guess I am not in Kansas anymore.
:-D
Also, I am not a Facebooker so I miss a lot of nonsense.
S'okay, Annie. Here, hold Toto.
Hate Facebook.
Me too
mainly use it to post pix and stories of rescue dogs :-)
Did you see my definition of Facebook awhile back? Here it is again: A lot of people with nothing to say, saying it constantly.
in a bathing suit? :)
that's kinda twitter as well, eh, mimi?
I'm on Facebook, but I really don't see what's so great about it. Most of the stuff posted on there is stupid and boring. I could live without it, that's for sure.
I don't even know how Twitter works...and don't want to know.
who posted pix of herself (I am assuming it was female) in a bathing suit? ) I am laughing as I sit here
i signed up years ago but never sent out a tweet LOL
I don't do Twitter either, Mimi. One social network is enough for me.
They were private pictures anni
I use FB only to keep up with people from high school back in Ohio. It has been handy for getting back in touch. Other than that, no time or interest in it. I am AMAZED at how many people invite me to play stupid games on FB---do these people not have lives?!!!
on Facebook? Forget it. I really dont need to know all this.
I just want you all to know that I respect all of you far too much to ever subject you to pictures of me in a bathing suit.
Ditto, Judi!!
Don't ask people here who are obsessed with this game mimi..lol
bbl- my head is spinning from all the a tiles :D

re Facebook, FYI there ARE some good things that happen -- just this month, our soup kitchen won $25,000 in a State Farm FB contest (number of "likes" over a period of time) -- we're pretty excited! :-)
Brings in beach so annie can stick her head in the sand
Good job, Une! Soup shots for everyone!
a real shot in the arm, with the price of food these days
Facebook, it's like getting "one of those Christmas letters" every day.
:-D
Molly, good description LOL
Of course, now that it's summer, those should be gazpacho shots.
true! :-)
I have a weird story to share. Tues. night my neighbor across the courtyard (who is directly in my eyeline while using computer) had verticals open, a big movie type spotlight on and I was treated to the sight of a totally naked man doing something, not sure what, right in the spotlight. For me it was nostalgia...but also ick.
yowser! LOL
Sings... "Look away, look away, Dixie Land'...

good to see everyone but gotta run -- byeee
Shine a laser light on him and freak him out.
This particular apt. has been weird from day one. The thing is, there is a child living there who is only about 5 years old...not sure if he was there Tues. but saw him yesterday.
That wouldn't be right judi. .mimi could be pulling a boner if she did that?
*covers eyes* Not touching that one with a ten foot pole.
Lol
OK...gotta get some work done quickly this morning. Have a great day, everyone, and hugs all around. (Yes, Molly, I'm actually leaving the first time.)
The guy sounds like an exhibitionist to me.
Takes bets on mimi
Great metaphor judi
Sounds like it was date night for the guy and he had the situation well in hand. (sorry).
Sees that bet and raises you ten.
Time for a break. *POOF*

Does anybody ever read that old rag anymore?
uh, farmers?
Yes.
BBNL? I swear there is no end to these abbreviations
I think TO meant that farmers read it.
I mean, now we can watch the Weather Channel for instantaneous (inaccurate) weather, tides, moon phases, etc.
i am chilly. i have had heat, a/c and both on this week
weather channel pretty much sucks now that they have become just another entertainment channel.
I know it's hard to believe, but some people do not consult the internet.
lol. I know what you mean, TO. Anytime I turn on the WC for weather, there's some silly show on like "Tornado Chasers" or something. Thank goodness for the red crawling banner when there's a storm warning.
to save $ and bandwiidth, the cable companies pick one point on which to ocus local weather, as opposed to before hd when there were many local weather points and reports.
The farmer's al7 is now being touted at containing tips on sustainable living. I'm so freaking sick of that over used term.
Pffth. Add it to "green living" and "carbon footprint". I wonder how much of a carbon footprint the volcanos in Hawaii make?
And people act like it's some new fangled thing they need to be all about. Um no, people have been living this way for centuries.
Reduce, reuse, recycle... read a freakin history book.
Not a common core history book.
i just found the i. this with 95 words in the bank. :/
I can just imagine some hippy dippy new ager going back in time to colonial America and saying "Oh great! Sustainable living!" And a hard working colonial farmer saying "Hey, sustain this"
Or during WWII, when we collected everything for recycling or use in factories... like apricot seeds and rubber tires.
Apricot stones rather - for you fruit purists.
apricot pits? for what were they used
They used apricot pits in the filters of gas masks.
i had no idea!
Apparently charcoal could react negatively with certain gasses and chemicals.
I wonder if there is an "app" for sustainable living? : P
Charcoal was what was usually used for filters. Kudos to the person who improvised apricot pits.
And, in the days before the invention of Nylon, women had to give up their silk stockings so they could be used to make parachutes.
phantom: catnap. wondering if that is why i crave one right now.
And now, women can't even be bothered to wear stockings at all.
Yick. I hope I never have to wear them again. Used to wear them all the time when I worked for the la6/36s. Too uncomfortable, too hot and they didn't last very long.
hi all! a hint for the center A? for nbt. thanks. :)
Sadly, the no stockings thing is not a good look on some women.
Fake tan is the salvation of many.
Aw4 and Aw5 (not related to each other).
What cracks me up about fake tan is that all the women who are eating "natural" and "raw" and berating genetically modified foods are slathering chemicals all over their bodies. : D
And gluten free
I don't have the time or the patience to apply fake tan. Plus I can't stand the smell of it. The world just has to look at my lily white legs.
Oh yes Bich, lest we not forget gluten free, dairy free and meat free.
And you know how I feel about this. If I can't wear it romping in the woods, it's assigned to the rear of my closet
oh! I found it, duh - ar5, a sports venue - but thanks for the help (I didn't have the aw4 yet.)
My jaw dropped on the ground one day while at the farmers market. Two very malnourished looking hippy types were admonishing a vendor for selling honey because it was "exploitive of the bees".
Yes, like the bees know they're being exploited
I saw some bees protesting exploitation the other day. They looked angry.
I know, bichon. It was a true WTF moment. I wanted to hit the hippies with a brick.
hahahaha
We can have non-conflict diamonds, but we can't have non-conflict bees/honey. Shut the f*ck up.
ah, judi.
Please pardon my semi-potty mouth.
We are having an arguement in our neighborhood. There are 12 houses on the circle with a green area in the center. Some people want to spray the green with toxic chemicals so they can have a weed free lawn and three of us are very opposed. The emails going back and forth
I'm so confused. Are we supposed to be anguished that the bees are "disappearing" or yelling about their exploitation?
The former Molly
There are chem free lawn care treatments, bichon. Check the yellow pages of your smart phone!
perhaps they've gone underground to avoid being exploited.
Black market bees. Bee cartels. Dang! Bees are a lot smarter than I thought.
i feel so guilty... had first lawn treatment today. it is insufferable. will treat this year and see what happens next.
But are they really safe for the dogs who romp on the green?
Don't know much about it, bichon. But they claim to be. Check into it.
bees are VERY smart, actually. and fascinating. they communicate. they have language.
Yes, that is who they are made for and why they are chemical free.
Hee hee. I like the way bees wiggle their butts.
I agree TO. If I did not have an inherent fear of bee stings I would love to keep bees. *Exploiter*
well, i cannot remember the last time i saw o ne.
Saw what? A bee? I see lots of them once the weather warms up.
We recently had bee armageddon here in Newark. Tracktor trailer carrying hundreds of bee hives overturned. They recovered as many as they could. Over half died or were expected to die.
yes. wasps,but no bees here.
Plant flowers. They will come.
oh judi, i remember hearing about that. a shame.
Yeah, I have lots of growing things around me and thus lots of bees.
If it's non-toxic, why do they leave little signs around
btw i was at udel two sundays ago. my nephew is going there

No picture yet. She moves too fast!

Lunch time! *POOF*
Don't let them do it, bichon, those chemicals have to be bad for dogs!
We don't have a weed-free garden, but it's a great habitat for birds, bees (we have huge ones called bourdon which are about n inch long, yellow, orange, white and brown and fuzzy), and dogs
I'd rather have weeds, some of which have flowers
Allegedly, it's non toxic, but you never really know. What's wrong with weeds in the grass, it's green

Bichon, by law, the lawn treatment people have to provide you with an MSDS Material Safety Data Sheet. This will tell you everything that is in the fertilizer they use.
But this isn't fertilizer, it's weed killer
question??
question??
WHY does anyone use weed killers....... have never understood it.
I used weed killer to get rid of stick grass and poison ivy. That stuff is nasty and painful, and I'd rather have to replant with plants that don't hurt me.
They have a mania in Britain for tidy verges. Every Spring they wait until the beautiful wild flowers bloom and the mow them flat
then
This is an entire green area
did the weed killer work on the poison ivy?
Jaxx--to the penalty box with you!
No. It killed the stick grass, though, and we pull poison ivy up by hand.
With disposable gloves.
Same thing for fertilizer Bich. Any treatments they use, they have to provide you with an MSDS.
sometimes a little salt will do the trick.. worked for me on grass in the sidewalk cracks
as long as there are plenty of wild flower blooms to look at. hadn't even noticed the word until you said
I meant same thing for weed killer
Be sure to find the related ma6, then :)
There you are Worzel, a word for you that is in the grid. lol
I already had that, sam!
i never thought dandelions were weeds... i still keep a couple of little glasses for the ones my great grandkids pick for me two dandelions heads in a shot glass are a beautiful thing
I'll tell you the truth--I already had the ma6 too, but didn't click to the ma5 until you said it
and i still love queen annes lace
Ah yes, but an ounce and a half of Irish in a shot glass is an even more beautiful thing. : P
Talking of weedkillers. There is a farmer near here who has put a notice on his gate. It reads: keep out, this field is covered with taraxacum. That is the Latin name for Dandelion.
.. . That's frigging beautiful
Queen Ann Lace is much more delicate than Ladies Bedstraw, although that is pretty too.
Now there is a person who is trying to impress with his vocabulary.
my grandmother used to have us dig dandelions... she made dandelion wine and an "elixer" for medicinal purposes only that grampa said relieved many of his aches and pains
it works as most of the locals have never studied Botany
Avoid the sap though as it makes you wet the bed. hence the French name 'Pis-en-lit'
Oh I'll bet it relieved his aches and pains. Probably made him randy too.
he produced 5 sons... heh heh

I am half way after a struggle. I am off for some brain food - pizza. bbl

It's either a latin word for query or question (almost never used, though I've come across it in a book) or a dialect spelling of "queer"
Irish, I should think. Now for the italian

My gog, but it'll be a quare scowderment at the Day of Judgment when they come tumblin' up in their death-sarks, all jouped together an' trying' to drag their tombsteans with them to prove how good they was, some of them trimmlin' an' dithering, with their hands that dozzened an' slippery from lyin' in the sea that they can't even keep their gurp o' them. --Dracula

hello friends. I hope all is well with you all
Hi, Bug
Did you make it thru the school recommended capability test jaxx? Thinking about your situation has bothered me a lot lately. I hope they realized that someone was overreacting to nothing.
It is not until 9th June, Bugs. We have been trying to make the place look tidy but it is a losing battle. Don't worry about me. I am sure it will turn out OK
I have 41 left and am getting nowhere fast.
It doesn't have to be totally spotless. The best advice I got as a young mother was from an old aunt from England who used to do home visits. She said she always looked to see that people lived there and that toys were out for kids etc. If it looked too much like a showcase, she got suspicious of how strict they were.
I just started and am stuck before half-way when I let myself look at the list
Well! That won't be a problem here, believe me. Both my husband and grandson hate empty spaces on shelves and tables, even the floor. If they see a space they have to fill it!
I have 81 words, can i help with clues?
thanks, but it is way too early yet. I will be in and out for a long time.
OK. I am taking my specs off and having a break. Thanks for your concern bugs. We have had several brushes with Social Services over the years. My daughter has a chequered past and we are used to picking up the pieces.
I have been where you are and stress is tremendous. You try to live with an open heart and people think they need to be involved.... sigh
On the other side of this, school personnel have to address an issue when they perceive signs of neglect, whether it is a true situation or not. I'm not sure where the happy medium is.
I know Molly. It just causes such stress for the family until things get sorted out as mine was and as I am sure jaxx's will be too.
That is true, and unfortunate.
It often amazes me how many "similar" situations people here have found them in. Especially when we all come from so many different places.

thanks gramma
That's the fun of babble though. Twisty words, then kicking yourself when you see how obvious they are!
too true!
I guess what I was trying to say (and not very well) is that they are not that obvious. : D
Well, not until you see them!
But I did understand what you meant.
Love the icon Molly :)
Been away for awhile 6 down 116 to go!
<----!!FW!!
Okay, now we are getting into weird territory...it's hard to see the words until you see them. : O
Congrats, Jilly :)
Not quite what I meant! LOL!
Hello pbr and good job!!
Definitely out of practice
It's just that when you see them, they really stand out - like how could you have missed that? Similar to those weird images, where you see shapes.
Once you've seen the shape, it's difficult not to see it!
And off to finish up cooking dinner...small grid, but I'll stop by later...good luck babblers!
Have a good evening :)
And thanks about the icon Liz. It's disturbing how many women are obsessed with dieting, weight and what they eat and don't eat.
Finally finished the ps!
Most important thing is to be and to feel healthy.
Fireworks.
Have a good evening Molly and others, Stateside.
Thanks Liz, enjoy your day.
Thanks :)
