Toda Melon. MAy it be a peaceful year.
It sucks worse than an 1920 hoover
Among the many gems John Oliver concocted for his Scottish HBO bit yesterday: (shows Mel Gibson on horse, with half a blue face) -- Nothing says "Scotland" better than a millionaire Australian antisemite on horseback!!!
Amen, ARB, and to you.

Ok over 1/2 way taking a break bbl :)

good morning all
cooee and g'day sprite
hello dear friend *hugs* How are you today?
{{hugs}} dear friend.
i am good. haven't done mu4 at all. there is a big hole in the ceiling and one wall in the laundry.
ummmm are those intentional holes?
i slept quite well, as we hoped i would.
lol....yup....that chimney is a-coming down.
ah that is lovely. Sleep is so important.
ok, in that case, yayyyy for the holes!
don is down to about half, and has uncovered a slab of concrete. we are hoping it isn't reinforced. he is hoping he can break it up where it is, and take out small pieces at a time.
yeah that would be good. Also. check if it isn't carrying too much weight from the floors above.
the slab of concrete is IN the chimney. there is/was nothing depending on the chimney to hold it up.
good. Always an important checkpoint, that.
we are, however, going to have to put a beam right across the room, from the outer wall to the wall in the centre of the house. there is a roof brace attached to the rafters.
yep, lol. You don't want the whole enchilada to come down on you.
I was awake so early today, and now I am struggling :(
did you see pugs email? it had me giggling so much.
hehehe yes, good for pugs, she is going strong
is'nt W a dill? i would have loved to be a fly on the wall when she found out she had to drive home again.
he is a good for nothing ass, if you don't mind me being frank
oh you can be frank if you want to....i prefer you to be sprite......lol
but but but sometimes I wanna be frank! :D
*giggle*
but yeah, amazing, how some people can behave. What an ass. Am so incredibly thankful pugs decided she had enough.
so am i....
brb, need a drink and some magnesium, i think.
I just took some as well :)
my first tulip is about to open. it is deep red outside, and a golden yellow inside
oh wow, beautiful
btw, it seems like the meds are working already, rose. Haven't had any 'accidents' since. And no more diarrhea either.
oh, yay sprite. i bet you are feeling so much better.
god yes. Starting to feel liberated.
lol my monkeys found a coin. Odd word. Don't think I have seen it before. Ha6/24.
there are some very strange new words in this grid.
interesting. I like learning new words. That ha6 is a chech or slowakian plural.
ugh, i'll be back in a while. tummy cramping
poor you :(
and back. if all of a sudden you are talking to the ether, you'll know where i am. ugh!!
fireflies. Interesting grid. Will hang around a little bit longer to see how you are doing, rose
oh there you are! Yeah, how very unpleasant for you :(
ETG SPRITE!!!
huh ?? WTG SPRITE!!!
:D thank you. I hope the cramps will subside quickly, darling. *hugs* for you. And lots of love.
* sigh * thanx hun. this is the third lot today. and i have had cramps in my throat, and i couldn't swallow, until i massaged them out.
wow. Looks like you are reacting very strongly to the magnesium canules. I hope it will be worth it.
go cuddle up with a blanket on the couch or the bed, and put on a fun dvd to distract you. *hugs* again, and I will be thinking of you.
sounds like a good idea. cramps are settling now. what are your plans for today?
good morning everyone:)
Good morning all

Hi Ruby
Hi Molly
hi, ruby
Hi IBD
and ty, Molly for the pr6
when DIL was here she tried to install adblock. I now get twice as many ads!
Hopefully when my so comes in Oct, he will be able to sort me out
60, nbt and nbs but I give up, To many m'a
howdy all new arrivals:)
morning all-
hi, crossy, hi wolvie
Ruby, maybe when your son works on your computer you can sit with him and make some notes so you have some guidelines for when he's not around
I love Ad Block Plus for chrome!
works well i take it crossy?
I did that with a friend; I set up all the security software in a neat little desktop folder with clear instructions on a notepad for each on how to use them and how often to use them as well .
It works very well, wolvie
good to know- always looking for good ad block stuff- they seem to get around programs daily
lets see... To date it has blocked 88,938 pop-up and banner ads
wow. i will have to download that- ty!
yes, just google ad block plus plug-in for chrome
ty :-)
I am assuming that you use the google chrome browser. There are different versions of Ad-Block for other browsers
tadone!! finito! tricky twisty grid
yes- it is one of the browsers i use. :-)
congrats dawg!
I have Ad Block Pro and it works very well too.
good to know- ty Molly. will look for that as well :-) i am off for a bit - brekkie time
ty, crossy, will download adblock asap. I hate chrome for that very reason.
Yes, they make ad-block for three or 4 different browsers I believe so there is something for everybody
The software program puts a little icon of s stop sign in the top right of your screen and as you taverse the interwebs, it will flash up the number of ads blocked for each site you visit. It is quite shocking that many sites now sport a library of over 500 banner or pop-up ads that they place on their site on a rotational basis!
Ad Block Plus is for Chrome
they also make it for I.E molly
and firefox i believe
I didn't know that. I haven't been on Internet Exploder for a long time.
Yes, I just put that out there for the 5 or 10 people still using I.E lol
To give it credit, it is vastly improved from what it once was, but in the end, I still prefer Chrome even with its few annoyances
lol@ Internet Exploder.. I missed that at first glance:)
: D I call the Fords Exploders too.
Oh yes! Today is the big day!! I had forgotten till now.
Well, I have never had any luck with Ford vehicles but that is just me.
My Daily Reading this morning was on National Self-Esteem. I thought that was in amazing synchronicity with Scotland's vote for independence today.
crossy, my Dad always called Ford "tinny cars"
Laugh at IE, but I can only print wirelessly from it. If I try to print from Chrome it prints at my son's house 3,000 miles away
That is a printer setting problem
Yes, but I cannot figure out the problem and I won't be at my son's house til Jan. I think it's printing from Chrome on the Google cloud
Yep, it probably is, which means you need to adjust the printer settings. Printing from the cloud is the only way it would be printing 3000 miles away.
Yes, my d.i.l. is always complaining that crossword puzzles are printing at her house
If you do a Google search on HOW TO DISABLE GOOGLE CLOUD PRINT you will probably find your answer
Sounds like her printers head is cloudy
LOL ruru
Having your computer print out to someone else's computer could turn out to be embarrassing : O
My big quandry is why it will print here from IE and not Chrome. Not that it's a big deal
Sounds like you have Chrome Prankster
need to refuel
how's the mood there today rururocks?
Ok as far as i know
Has it been moody here joseph? I don't know
Other than that troll the other night

i guess harum can't be a word without scarum

Oh no Molly - nothing better than fresh picked corn on the cob

Cupid's lesser known brother : D

... thanks for that one ... ... three quarters and time to do something else ... ... later
there is more than one thing to do to potatoes?
mash, bake, roast, fry, eat
anything else joseph before I run
dice... fry... mash...
with an e in the middle?
well that is why you think through until you find one that has the e there
gotcha
bye all
Returned! Things I'll never understand: Peep-toe boots.
You can also make a battery and vodka out of a potato.
Although, probably not the same potato.
Peep-toe boots is an oxymoron
Although if you want to go for super fugly, I suggest camel-toe boots
this grid is awful
Third column M?
Uggs. Camel toe boots could go with camel toe leggins. eeeeyeech.
hi judi
G'day, MLF!
I need third column M 4th column lone A and the V any help please?
va4/7
I think the 3rd M is not papa

ty
What Molly said
it's fun to make up compound words and picture what they mean....like hamhat.... ;o)
Rerum, fill the pirate's glass again
love it!
Wenches know things like that : D
heh heh...
Speaking of pirates, don't forget that tomorrow is International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Hoping for independence for my fellow Celts in Scotland.
clue for up6/24 pls?
Not down + not front
ty Molly should have seen that one.
Hello everybody. Struggling with a very dodgy internet connection. To all my Scottish friends.... May your decision be the right one!
And, before my connection lays down & dies... Molly, super icon, for the day that's in it.
ducking in *just a sec: need to shake the dew off my bill* just to ask if anyone knows when we can expect a result on Scotland?
Tomorrow morning by all accounts (around 12 hours or so)
Thanks worzel. It helps not to have to check in every half hour.
you're welcome
Anyone interested in what happens to the BBC if Scotland "leaves" should read this: http://tinyurl.com/mx2ylt
I'm keeping track of betting odds. Looks like about 4:1 odds against secession as of now is the thought.
That is just sad.
I understand, Molly. I've been torn between English, Scottish and Yorkshire (caught in the middle) friends for a year now. They all have sound arguments and deep passions. I can go with each of them, intellectually and even emotionally, but I suddenly found myself go thoroughly shamefully selfish when it came to the beeb.
Well, as a friend of mine says, when you've lived in Mom and Dad's basement for 300 years, it's hard to move out. I was hoping that the people of Scotland would honor those who came before them to fight for independence though.
The perfect image! I can think of a few other uses for that one. The problem is, of course, that some folks would just rather move upstairs and take over their rightful share without leaving altogether.
All I can feel is envy for the Scots. They have been given the opportunity to have a bloodless revolution. When I think of the literally countless lives which were lost in the pursuit of an independant Ireland ( which STILL has not been achieved), I am envious in the extreme.
Hello everyone :-)
Hi cyber - welcome to the heated discussion.
But then, politics is taboo on Babble, so I probably have overstepped the mark. Hello Nan!
It got a little more heated about ISIL a few days ago....
gotcha, Soodle - I'm off the subject.
I don't think many Scots would agree that their history with the English has been bloodless. The aftermath of the 1744 rebellion resulted in the slaughter of many highlanders, including women and children. The highand clearances wasn't a picnic either.
*1745
Of course you are right, Nan. I'm speaking of very recent history.
cyber, I think the point was (arguably or not) that this one could be bloodless. It's time to cool it, anyway. We're each touching a different part of the elephant.
I've broken my own golde rule! Politics & religeon shoukd never ever be discussed on a high stool (bar-room) or on an internet forum. I apologise. Please resume normal Babbling! :-)
...golden...
I like golde. It has a funky yiddish flavor to it.
In that case, jwr, I'm going to make myself another rule. A golde one!!!
Lol
You got it, Soodle. The rule I (try to) follow is one of Isaac Asimov's: Never argue anything on the basis of faith.
Lol Jwr.
Hi all...
That being said - I totally loathe this grid
Could I have stats for the 4th row A, please?
this is tough
al 6/24
Hey Jell! Nice to see you. Sorry, not got the a yet, but looking..
I think that's what you're looking for, Jellen
What's happening here?
Sorry, I meant the bottom A.
Thanks for the al 6 though.
n..n....nothing, bichon. absolutely nothing
thought there was talk of Scotland
yw Jell. bichon, don't be silly. why would we be talking about politics????
Hey Bich! I was pontificating, then I stopped myself!
have al 5 x2 but don't see a 6
nan, one of the als has an older form
When we know the results, tomorrow?
it's not soodles fault - she was provokitated
someone said in about 12 hours
Thats it! I was provokitated!
mmm -- have what wakes you in the morning and where the bride and groom stand at the wedding ceremony
yup
ha 6/27?
got it, ty
In about 7 hours from now (6.00am Scottish time) there should be a good indication of how the vote went...
change first letter of a name for a class of animals having hair
tyvm gremlin
Soodle, I see you have zipped your lips, but I will agree with you. Our ancestors here in America fought and died for their independence. The very idea that a country could achieve that merely by voting, and would turn it down astounds me.
MooooollllllllllyyyyYYYY
The odds have been drifing steadily: bets on Yes have gone from about 4:1 to about 7 or 8:1 on average
I have no problem with discussing political issues here. We are all big boys and girls.

My last word on political commentary in Babble (a verse at a time): The Blind Men and the Elephant John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887) It was six men of Indostan To learning much inclined, Who went to see the Elephant (Though all of them were blind), That each by observation Might satisfy his mind.
I love Alan Cumming Bich and the article was very good.
Notice that he's now a US citizen
The First approached the Elephant, And happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, At once began to bawl: "God bless me! but the Elephant Is very like a WALL!"
av 6/27 is the one I was needing...
av6: sci-fi movie with blue people
The Second, feeling of the tusk, Cried, "Ho, what have we here, So very round and smooth and sharp? To me 'tis mighty clear This wonder of an Elephant Is very like a SPEAR!"
Why does it matter that he's a US citizen?
av 6/27 is the name of a movie with blue skinned aliens
Got it, thanks.
yvw
Bye for now.
The Third approached the animal, And happening to take The squirming trunk within his hands, Thus boldly up and spake: "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a SNAKE!"
bye jellen
Grem, anything longer than twenty something characters (including spaces) will get that \n inserted. It's a code error that remains unfixed.
run it thru the website tinyurl.com, Gremlin
Ah, Molly! I was born in the '60's. As I grew, so did the 'Troubles' in Northern Island. I compounded my problems by marrying an Englishman in the 80's. Sectarianism was part of my day to day life. I repeat, I envy Scotland and the Scots their opportunity for independence, without bloodshed.
The Fourth reached out an eager hand, And felt about the knee "What most this wondrous beast is like Is mighty plain," quoth he: "'Tis clear enough the Elephant Is very like a TREE!"
hello friends.
Hi, Tri
(((Trif))). Sorry. You caught me mid-rant. How you doinf?
Doing..
Soodle, take a deep breath. ... another one ... If you're very calm and stop provokitating yourself, I won't have to finish the poem.
We get it jwr, you think we are all wrong. You have a right to your opinion.
doing fine
getting dinner together, and then heading off to high school open house night - dread
Happy to hear that , Trif.
Happy to hear that , Trif.
Molly, you know better than that. I know you are all right. That's entirely the problem. And that's why we shouldn't get into matters like this.
An exchange of ideas with differing opinions is usually very thought provoking. Light and fluffy chit chat usually is not. But majority rules here.
it is hard to drum up the appropriate amount of enthusiasm for my TENTH high school open house.
I hear you Trif. I had kids in public schools for twenty some odd years.
hi all! and thanks to gremlinn for the av6/27, which FINALLY gave me nbt!
Ah (((Sue))). Long time etc. Hope you're doing ok?
I'm ok, Soodle, Frank is struggling but hanging in there
An exchange of ideas is one of the most worthwhile things about Babble. Don't you think this is a very complicated issue that deserves a wider venue? Perhaps in private emails? Babblers help each other out of nasty holes, soothe and comfort and problem-solve major problems -- but these are things that we can do something about. They're not trivial, but everyone can get involved without butting heads on a matter that just rouses negative emotions.
hi jwr! for the most part I enjoy the back - and - forth here; sometimes people get upset and then I get sad :-(
sorry, that was meant to answer Molly.
I've been following Frank's progress on FB. You know my thoughts, prayers & good wishes are with both, Sue.
anyway must run out for printer toner, bbl
thank you, soodle! we are muddling through somehow
((((Huge hugs)))) Sue.
This grid isn't doing it for me. Bleh.
struggling with the la 5's -- just have the last one - clues, please?
la + ***d means difficult or rigid
la5 sounds like what a believer has in God
l + f****ful means loyal
another la5 is an anagram of the believer/loyal one
ty molly and grem - one down :-)
me too uu (not the printer toner, the running out). Just want to clarify that after ten years or so on Babble, I have much respect for regular Babblers and their now-familiar voices -- and their feelings too, Mol. I'm sorry if I hurt yours.
la + *** an alcoholic drink
See that greyish cloth on the floor?. That's my towel. I just threw it in. My head is melted with non Babble stuff. I need to sort self out. Nite all, and....och aye the noo...

Now I'm having visions of Mother Parker in A Christmas Story.
*practices his Jimmy Stewart impression*
Wrong Christmas movie : P
seen one ya seen em all
True. They are either about Santa or having some epiphany in life.
or scrooging around in some way
ooh I hope epiphany shows up in tonight's grid
Scrooge movies are epiphany movies.
Mel Gibson arrested for DUI's and yelling obscenities at a jewish police officer is an epiphany..
Oh, I am wrong. There is that horrible Christmas Shoes movie about the kid trying to get shoes for his dying mother.
was her name Imelda?
I don't think so. It was based on a country song. I doubt there are too many country mamas named Imelda.
There has to be some Imeldas .. it rhymes too easy for country western songs
like Imelda Cline (patsy's sister)
Imelda Judd (the non singer)
and Imelda Underwood..
:D
.. (sings) only the lonely...
oh well..
It's kind of disturbing to see 7 of those goats in a row : O
7 blind goats .. 7 blind goats.. see how they run..

that sounds like a Ben Kingsley movie
It was a long poem that was posted in chat earlier to derail the Scotland discussion
wow.. what is it about politics around here
phew. done. what an unpleasant grid
that it is indeed harry
Not sure Ru, but only "gentle" conversation seems acceptable
although I do like that it says havaru in it
politics aren't gentle?
maybe they are gentile?
strange bedfellows are rarely gentle
or genteel
I don't know. I outgrew the "we don't talk about that" mentality when I gave up dysfunctional life.
there's a guy with a blue face on your av6. is that not dysfunctional?
William Wallace was dysfunctional?
no but mel gibson certainly is :)
Well, Mel Gibson was not the intention of the icon.
fine.
I think in my heart of hearts I'm rooting for the NOs.
are those jewish actors behind mel there molly?
as much as I love Scotland. More chaos in the world right now is just too much for me to handle
I think Ireland should have a vote too
Well, if the people in Scotland want to continue being considered citizens of England (that is what their citizenship is, not Scottish) then so be it. I think it's pretty sad though.
California should secede from the US too
And Texas
and we'll take Hawaii with us
And take their rotten textbooks with them

i winder if i could write a "clue story" using all the kooky words in today's grid
I wouldn't even know how it's possible, gwen...they're pretty strange!!!
You could, but no one would understand it.
but not knowing what half of them mean, it would require some actual research
could consider it 'alien speak'!
pr5/16?

i just counted, and i would have to say there are 30 words in this grid that i don't really know how to use in a sentence. and i have a pretty good vocab, usually
pr + what you open up and say + vowel
pr5 is pr + vowel + you say "ho **m" when you're bored
thx!
