cooee and g'day from me
hi Rose, just came back - thought I was going to get an early night tonight
hi flosey. your head still buzzing, hin?
yup
hate to do it but maybe I should speak to the dr about it
poor you.
constant buzzing - sounds like a head full of cicadas
flosey, do you have tinnitis?
that's what I think it is
has not been diagnosed
have never spoken about it with the dr
might be an idea, flosey. there are some meds which can help.
I know I miss a lot of conversations due to it - one on one is ok, it's when there are others entering into conversation and looking at other people when talking
that's hard for you, flosey.
very frustrating - sometimes just close it all out
except for the ringing!!
oh, dear! i know that feeling/sound. i have bad tinnitus in my right ear, and to a certain extent in my left. you close your eyes to sleep and all you can hear is the pitched squealing noise.
I had that once. It is very upsetting
g'day ruru
did you have it attended to ru? or did it just go away?
Mine went away
I've just kept hoping it would, maybe time to look into it
Have you checked you blood pressure lately?
yes and I think I should have my machine checked - have had it maybe 5 years - did change batteries but no different, was a bit higher than usual
I do have meds for that
That might be a contributor to it
thanks Ru and Rose, I will see Dr
yay flosey. it's a good decision hin

it is a truly beautiful winter day here. Sun is out, blue skies and that crisp cold clean winter air.
nice sprite....
yeah it is nice. Are you watching television?
sort of....don't want to distract you from the grid.
chat with me, darling. I enjoy talking with you while babbling. No distraction.
okay. hip still being a female dog. it's scary. i 'm not sure what is going on.
don is definitely feeling better. he ate dinner.btw, did you cook the fried rice?
I can imagine :( I think it is a very good idea to speed up the appointment. And take it from there. If only we lived closer together :(
Goooooooooood morning fellow Babblers xx
don't you have local nurses there, who can come in once or twice a day to help? We have here.
don is so proud, really. he won't like knowing he can't take care of me.
hey worzel, me nephew, how's life?
xoxoxoxoxox WORZEL!!! hello dear son.
Hello mum!!! xxxx Hello aunty sprite xxxx All is good here. How are things with you two? xx
yeah well, rose, pride is a luxury and one he cannot afford right now.
I am good, thanks.
can't be doing with all these es lol

a few problems with the hips, son. how is princess diane?
Awww Diane is stunning as always. She's just gotten up and sitting next to me on the sofa, outshining the morning sun that has graced us with it's presence! Sorry to hear about your hips, I'll come round and give them a massage if you like xx
when you get there, you should stay for a bit and help take care of rose post op!
oh, no you won't. that is strictly hands off territory. it hurts too much. xoxoxox diane, dear
She says hello, Mum! And what's this operation about? xx
sweetie, i have torn both tendons in both hips. i am going to see my ortho surgeon to see what he wants to do. dad's shoulder is still giving him gyp. so i cannot have the hips operated on until dad can take care of me.
how about the question I had about the local nurses, rose?
I shall send you both a healing angel, if you agree xx
good idea, sprite. he would come at the idea of visiting nurses i think.
ta son.
welcome Mum and give Dad my best wishes and tell him to stop fannying around pretending to be ill - typical man! Me ma needs looking after!!! xx
that would be good, rose. If a nurse can help you once or twice a day, Don can do the rest... pride saved, situation solved. I don't think you have the luxury to postpone these ops much longer. You are in too much pain.
roflol, wor.....nuh uh, not going to say that to him. you do it!!
brb doggie needs the garden x
so, sprite?? did you end up cooking the fried rice or not?
I did and it was delish! We all loved the recipe. Will certainly cook it again.
the five spice makes all the difference doesn't it?
absolutely. Such a great blend of flavours.
and once it is in the pan, it pretty much does itself. i think that's the best part.
yeah the preparation takes most of the time, after that it is easy sailing :)
i hope it didn't wear you out too much.
I don't know what did, actually, but I had a very bad night and then yesterday morning I was so incredibly tired that I went back to bed... and slept till dinner. Sigh.
you just needed to sleep. you did have that atrocious night a few days back, remember?
yeah that is true, and then a similar one from friday to saturday. Am definitely feeling a little better today.
ugh...you poor thing. that makes sense then...
just minor stuff, rose, compared to your situation. I count my blessings.
aww, bless you, dear. i think we are on a par actually.
*hugs* let me know what you can find out about visiting nurses. And of course what the ortho says.
tomorrow, will call the ortho. and will go from there, okay?
absolutely. I'll have your back through it all, I promise.

oh man, I could sleep again! Will try and stay up though... don't want to switch my day-and-night rhythm, lol.
*hugs rose* Sleep well, my dear friend. And let me know how it goes tomorrow.
wonder what happened to our worzel? he went to take the dog out...then nothing...mind you, princess diane was up...maybe we don't want to know the answer.
hot steamy sex, prolly
sprite, set an alarm. give yourself permission for a couple of hours.
yeah I might, in the afternoon. A nana nap :) Bye sweetie!

I am just making noise anyways. Many Canucks, myself included, love making noise when it comes to weather extremes. Deadly cold, unending rain, and my personal favorite, thunderstorms violent enough to rattle the windows out of their frames:)
Morning all.
Me and the cat were under the covers all night, way under the covers :)
Howdy, sukee
Morning crossy.
All the cats were with us on the bed last night
right now, however, they are sleeping on my clean pile of laundry on the Chesterfield:(
Must still be warm :)
Good morning
Hello River
good morning all
Hi wv
hello sukee
Still snowing here. My front porch is now completely buried. All. The way up to the decorations on the posts.
We had some snow, not it's just very very cold.
Have light snowe and bitter cold
I saw that. Deep freeze coming in tomorrow here.
But our "light" snow left about 6 or 7 cm.
0 F degrees now - colder tonight and early tomorrow morning
There is a fresh foot out there right now and it doesnt look like it is stopping soon. My son will be busy today.
Right now here it is -26C which is -14F
Yikes
0 F degrees wind chill this morning when i took the dogs out to pee brrrrr
Windchill of -40C, which is the same in F
yowser sukee!!
And you are way south of me Une
I slept with only my head showing last night, the cat was cuddled next to me.
Hi une
Question Une, where do you do your dog transports from
I also went to bed with a heating pad :)
expecting some snow tonite and tomorrow morning -- what makes me nervous is the prediction of sleet/freezing rain on top of that -- local drivers are NUTS!
My apartment is not the warmest at the best of times. Next year for sure, I will have an electric blanket.
O degrees air temp but -14 wind chill
I just turn the heat up...lol
what do you mean exactly, river?
I wish I could control the heat.
My cats sleep with me too
My apartment needs new windows that are not drafty.
I drive a leg or two of transports that sometimes start as far away as Texas and end in Canada or New England
Right now, the cat is sitting on the radiator.
Where do you travel from and to when you take the pups to their forever homes
the dogs in yesterday's transports were heading to Vermont but are now staying a week in Cleveland due to risky weather for drivers
I'm stuck, not finding any new words, 60 to go
I have a friend in florida that runs a rescue and is always looking for transport
i just drive a leg or two of transports that last one, two, or three days
I lie, found one that is the name of someone who frequents the chog.
And where do you live again
i help with transports out of Florida sometimes -- Miami Animal Control is awful -- usually pitbulls that have been used as bait dogs
Nashville
Penny Touchman on Facebook -- suggest your friend consider starting by contacting her
It breaks my heart to see her posts everyday. She rescues dogs from those kill shelters
and those dogs are sooooo sweet and forgiving
Sitting here wrapped in a throw, I don't want to get up and make breakfast :)
need more coffee --- back in a mo :-)
She must post 50 a day of the sweetest babies. I wish I could take them. I have two rescue cats and by agreement there are to be no other pets. My boys are great.

Hi Annie.

Hi sukee, must be freezing up there

I have two Qs - probably the obvious one (strange and stranger) - can someone give me stats for the others and let me know if they're weird?
Ty Annie, I totally missed that word.

I'm wrapped in a throw at my desk. Typing keeps my hands warm :)

I want meep, yes. And I use it.
Today is Flag Day in Canada :) 50th anniversary of our new flag.
See Google :)
happy flag day!
I agree Molly
good morning, Molly
Now it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!! This morning I have been watching some of my favorite musical duo's on You Tube, and I have one that i would like to share with you. There are many good singers out there, but as i went through some of the more modern stuff, I found that the two people singing seemed more concerned with how they appeared to the audience than how well they performed with their singing partner, and as a result they ended up with a cold and sterile delivery. I had to go back a little bit to find one that I wanted to share but this one by Neil Diamond & Barbara Streisand is a perfect example of how it should be done. They are singing to each other, and not the audience. You can almost feel the heat of lost love rekindling itself as they sing for each other and let some of what they are trying to express leak out into the audience for all those watching them to share. A older song, but one well worth sharing, with Barb's voice at its best. http://tinyurl.com/k645fmz
I'm always glad when a country stops flying the flag of another country and gets one of their own.
sorry for long post, but oh well:)
I like that song.
I wouldn't exactly say that song is about lost love rekindling itself.
No one beats Barbra...what a voice!
And Neil, he is one of the best :)
well, each can interpret the song as they wish, Molly
Still singing too, Sukee!
me5,14,please, the first one, my last word
Has anyone seen Streisand's duet with her son? The kid is pretty good.
nm, found it, finished.
Aw, I wanted to clue it :)
Hey bubba, can you guide me to it?
wtg
You can clue it for me!
It is the french world for "oh Sh** Being polited
congrats, bubba
me + lip color mixed up
polite
ty sukee
Thank you :)
yw
I like 'polited'. Good new verb - if you can have 'tasked' you can have polited.
:)
In babble anything goes
I know, I'm shy :)
Dreading going to the bathroom, it is like an icebox in there :)
it's a bit old-fashioned, I think, but "tasked" is legit, as in to be tasked with doing something.
I have a small portable heater and when I shower I use it. Hate coming out of a shower into a cold room.
BRB
My dream is to someday have those towel rods that warm your towels while you shower.
I just bought a towel warmer on amazon. It's so worth the investment especially in these negative degree Temps!
warm toilet seats in Japan
This is when it is a good time that a cat follows you into the bathroom, warm cuddles :)
Yes, I would love a towel warmer
they make a cloth like cover for the toilet seat. I found it on sammys dress http://tinyiurl.com/kbozrtl it works great and it is only $2.47
Sukee, amazon.ca doesn't have it but if you go to brookside.Com they ship to canada.
and heated floors and a heated toilet seat and a vent that does not bring cold air directly from outside.
Radiant floor heating...that is the life
i did it right this time with the tinyurl, right?
No, I get to Find a host
everything is available, it seems ... except the wherewithal to pay the utility bill.

I have a towel bar that sits right over the heat register...:-)

Spoken like a true medical professional Pip. : D Good clue Nancy.
thanks, I am not practiced at cluing and happy when someone gets it.
Acck! sun comes out and yet we lose another 2 degrees. Wind chill at minus 42 F/C. I think I best cancel the snowshoe trail for this afternoon:) Stay inside and babble and drink hot toddies:)
that sounds, um, really unpleasant, crossy
and here i am deciding whether or not to brave a run in the 17F weather with potentially icy sidewalks
It is a little annoying. Things start freezing, breaking and falling off:(
like parts of you? or just things around you...
I wnet out(briefly) to fire up the Jeep for a few minutes and noticed that I had forgotten a pen in the dashboard cubby and the ink all froze and it blew it all out of the pen and all over the dashboard. On the plus side it is so cold i was able to flake it off with my thumbnail and clean it up before it melted.
I keep my own parts well covered so as to not lose any:)
good morning all. not much snow here but very, very cold
help with A pls and bottom E too
Join the frostbite club ,peri:)
Is it warm in here?
We had jackets...but they froze:)
hi hego, yes
Glad Crossy is keeping his parts covered.
Hi Peri
Nothing dangling in the wind today i can tell you that!
Hahahaha
I remember living up noth you had to take special care that you had proper tire inflation on your car during the winter because if the tire was under-pressurized and it got down to -45 minus 50, you would end up with a temporary flat spot on your ties and you would have to go real slow until the rubber found its proper shape once more
wow
found an ar4
Peri those are tough.
This stuff we have today is just wind chill values. i think it is minus 29, but the wind brings it to minus 42. Up north the actual temp was minus 40- minus 50, then add wind on top of that. Make one appreciate spring time when it rolls around:)
I'll bet.
Time for a nice hot tea...brb
i'm already going to appreciate spring!
There we go; nice, strong tea and a crunchy bagel:)
Hi Pip
thai hot tea here with some sweetened condensed milk. sweet and toasty tasting
hi hego!
Amazed that Crossy has bagels where he lives.
In USA if you go west of Philadelphia or south of DC no bagels.
Or very bad ones.
believe me, you can get terrible ones even in nyc
Really?
You can get good bagels in CA
Good morning, all. Can't imagine a world without bagels. Although, I haven't eaten one in forever.
hi judi
Yes Ca is the exception. Chicago too.
hego, the bodega by me serves "bagels" that i think are just flavored rolls. terrible
yes, hego. The sled dog teams bring them in over the border from Philly:)
Hi Judi
Stop it Crossy :)
When we moved to CT in '72, you couldn't get bagels here aat all. We haad to stock up when we went to NYC
:)
I believe it Bichon.
Actually, we have found chain bagel joints in Virginia, Florida, and Arizona. It takes some Googling, but they are out there.
A roll with a hole is NOY a bagel.
not
I like NOY
lol me too Bichon.
hey, sun came out and we came up a degree!
Here too Pip
Hello snow bunnies.
Hi Scrabs
Wind is howling here. 50 mph gusts predicted for most of the day. Hope the neighbors trees don't fall on us.
Wind chill bad in Buffalo?
Hi Scrabs
The wind is kind of scary.
It's still minus 10 here and will dip to minus 17 overnight. Wind chill is minus 36.
*shivers* Stay warm, Scrabbs. No snowshoing today!
Scrabs is all that snow on your roof a problem?
Judi, I told her that too.
I have a metal roof so I will be fine. I got the steel roof maybe 12 years ago after a few winters of ice dams and water leaking into the house.
good idea
Great!
We have to look after our bunny. :)
Not fit for humans or animals along the eastern coast today.
Metal roofs are popular here.
It is sunny and beautiful so it is hard for me to stay inide.
Judi, we have to pass you when we go home to CT from Richmond
metal roofs rock! nothing worse than ice dams backing up under the first course of shingles. beofe you know it you have water running down your living room walls:(
Wind chill is minus 42 c here scrabby. the trails can wait a day or 2!
Well, enjoy your 15 minute pass through Delaware, Bichon! Sorry about the tolls.
We have EZ Pass so we just breeze through
I went through that, Crossy, then got ice shields and a new roof, but that didn't solve the problem. Some people here get a second roof 12-18 inches on top of the orginal roof, and keep asphalt shingles.
Good old route 13.
There are no tolls yet in CT, but I think they are coming
You are going to run into a ton of snow in CT. Poor New England is getting hammered this winter.
I think I will do housecleaning. ARGH!
did I miss a clue for the bottom E?
That is called "buttoning" and is not allowed here anymore, sscrabby as it always fails in time
Peri, I still don't have it.
Nice metal roof is thew way to go
I think Bichon will probably be on 95, Hego.
It's not so bad in CT., Boston is the worst
They have some nice designs now as well:)
OH, right Judi
bottom e is a musical piece, et5/14
I wonder how Penquis is doing. I heard Maine got 2 feet.
ty Pip
We go by 95 up to the Garden State
... bottom "e" ... et5 ... french study ... usually a musical piece by Chopin
... bottom "e" ... et5 ... french study ... usually a musical piece by Chopin
tyty dose
I think half the planet passes through Delaware at rush hour. Traffic on 95 becomes a parking lot.
Have spent many hours on route 95.
Why I take 13 sometimes Judi. or 305.
We take 295 after the Delaware bridge to pay less in tolls
I like 295. A well kept secret.
Better to not give them toll money
bl
And less trucks and traffic.
hello all....
Speak of the devil...
Hello penquis
for sure. How far north can you take it and still get on to the Tpke
the devil?....moi??
Was just wondering how you're doing today Penq.
are your ears burning pen?
True Hego. Luckily, I have a straight shot to and from work on 273 (east/west).
Where in Maine do you live, Penquis?
ah...doing ok....not as much snow as predicted and it should be stopping soon.....windy, though, so drifting is a problem....
Bichon, I'm not sure. I get on around Ternton area.
i live on the midcoast.....
and it's very cold...
Trenton.
Acadia is on my bucket list.
Wind is huge on the coast.
yes....not going anywhere today....may have to dig out my car....
The only "toll" road we have it Hwy #407 and it is a fast route into the city and uses window mounted transponders and you pay-per use as you go on and off the highway. Mostly for citiots in a hurry. I have never used it.
Well wait till the wind settles down, at least.
Now that Crossy has a jeep, he just goes overland (like sled dogs).
I try to stay out in the country here as urban/suburban driving and life makes me crazy.
Almost, judi:) the other day I had to blaze a trail out of our parking lot to the road so cars could get out to the main road which had already been plowed
Well, that was right neighborly of you!
Nice man, Crossy.
can i please get STATS for the 8's?
Well one was a nurse and she had to get on shit at the hospital:)
shift
tu 8/65
no idea Penq.
lol. Probably both, Crossy.
I could peek.
ty crossy...
pe8, 60
and I think there is a pe8, but I do not have it yet
peeking provides too much temptation for me...
ty again...
Dang! House just got slammed by a huge gust!
Makes you jump, no?
our winds are still gusting to 55 kph, but they are easing
House creaking and cracking. Hope it holds together.
Hello from the Ice Planet of Hoth!
Hi, Car! Keeping warm?
Hello snowed in person.
... pe7 ... to change ... or a change ... ... pe8 ... to have done it in the past ... ... it's used in math a lot
as long as you don't have to sleep in any carcasses to stay warm
Howdy car;) join the Popsicle club!
Rebel Base 1 is secure and fully operational.
ty doseffing, the earlier clues didn't do it for me
:)
Car must be cuddled up with milk and wookies.
LOL
it LOOKS so nice out! the sun is bright and the sky is a vault of royal blue, but i think the snowshoes will stay in the closet today;(
lol Judi
Winds of up to 65 mph here.
And still snowing, of course.
How much so far?
put some rocks in your pockets to keep you on the ground car:)
Car, I was watching the Boston press conference on the Weather Channel just a short time ago.
Another foot, less the pre-storm of 3' which we shoveled last night.
i think you got more than us, but it's hard to tell with the wind...
Poor Boston.
I have stopped watching them. Can't take it. More snow coming in a few days.
Jeez louize! When it finally melts, there is going to be some major flooding.
Are the kids going to school at all?
This is vacation week...thank goodness. We have only missed 5 days.
Unfortunately, when it melts it is going to go right through out basement.
Not too bad.
Probably too much snow ever for the kids. Especially as cold as it is. No fun for anyone.
*even*
Between the storms last night, around 10:30, it was gorgeous!
our schools have missed 8 days so far....
Must be a total slog trying to get to work or anywhere for that matter.
Remeber being shut up in the house with badly bored kids in the winter. Ugh!
We used to have a tidal basement car. I share your pain
Commuting is a nightmare. Thankfully, I work at home and Hubby can work from here to.
*pictures kids climbing walls and clinging to the ceiling*
Just about.
Cookie making time. :)
Mum used to kick us out in the back yard and we used to make snow forts and mini-skating rinks
Ah! Cookies make everything better.
When the kids and my mom get under my skin, I go outside and shovel.
Cookies and wookies.
Judi, it kept them busy too.
everytime I have made cookies with my kids, I get so frustrated. Not sure why.
You have to accept that they won't be perfect.
Which I am fine with.
... the cookies or the kids?
Not sure about anyone else, but if I had small children and sent them out to play today, I could get arrested for child abuse. It's negative 10 with the wind chill.
That and the fact they would sink into the snow.
lol Dose
LOL..both Doseffing!
really Molly.
How times change:(
Yes. It would not be wise to send the bairns out into the elements today. Best to just slip them some whiskey and have a family nap. Oh... wait...
Yes, please, waiter!
Brownies!!!
I take some of that action!
NO! Had a horrible experience with "brownies" once.
A brownie trauma??
Just give me the bowl and I'll be fine
love brownies....the edible kind...
Not for you, for the kids and your Mom : D
really?
Diet. :-((
... oooh ... doesn't sound good!
I need another clue please for the PE 7 & *
*8
How horrible of an experience can you have with "brownies"? Did paranoia set in? Did you desperately need Cheetos and had non in the house?
... p3 latin through ... = ... silent or unable to speak
Brownies must have burnt. Oh, the humanity!
Violently ill. almost died in my sleep
car....pe word...what you do to your hair to curl it + not able to speak....
ty
Nancy's clue earlier was great...chemically curly hair and turned down the volume
were the brownies spiked??
Holy cow, Car! Allergic reaction?
My guess is that there was more than pot in those brownies.
Gak...husband is already trying to establish a "schedule" to go out and shovel. I'll go out when I want, thank you!
Too many too fast. Got to the party after work. Thought I was being cool and catching up .
Oh Car, I would tell him where he could shove his schedule : P
... april is good ... may is better
He has been a machine about shoveling. And now we found out that I am good with my back for about 2 hours, i have to offer what I can do.
I don't shovel snow anymore. My back does not cooperate.
That's why we bought a snow blower
I say let the male children go out and shovel.
No shit! That's what I say too! But they start to whine and he sends them in. Drives me nuts.
... 15 to 20 minutes ... no more than half an hour ... and start with a path to the street
*looking around the house for male children....oops....there are none*....
My favorite: "Oh, this stuff is too heavy for them". WTF?!??!
We only got about 3 inches of snow last night. Not even worth getting the shovel out.
Good advice Dose.
I'll go out when this wind stops.
Mr. Bich clears the driveway if it's only an inch
Too heavy for them? Oh dear God.
i will go out soon to shovel out and move the car....doesn't look too bad....don't want to wait until it gets colder...
... we haven't had your snow ... but I've been religous about shoveling every two to three hours ... don't get it done and get laughed at by younger neighbours ... but in the morning I've got 3 inches on the driveway when they've got a foot to do
I am on board with that too, Doseffing, but not with this wind...and most of the snow came overnight.
With gusts up to 65 miles per hour, blizzard conditions and a temperature (with the wind chill) of -2, I don't think anyone needs to be outside doing anything.
AMEN!
i think i will wait to go out....
good decision.
yes, the wind has become more audible...
It is supposed to be calmer this afternoon.
May I have some help with the E in the fourth column? I only have one word from there, but I can't figure out which.
lol mee too
alt spelling for the bird...
Have that one.

The college is Purdue. My dad was a grad in mechanical engineering.
Hi kje. How is life out on the west coast?
Good grief.
def says hidden or lost.
gorgeous
dictionary says it means hidden, concealed
Sunny and gorgeous here too, but wind chill is minus 36.
i am sure it's related to the french meaning lost...
Does it mean hidden or lost? I think it means hidden or lost.
brrrrrrrr
need one more from that 4th column E - have the bird and green gem - what am i missing
Penq I agree.
I will help you look, wv
wow... do you plan to go out and ski today, scrabs?
I wonder how many babies are going to be born nine months from now? : D
I so want to, but I am not sure if I should. I could just sit in the warming hut next to the woodstove.
must go. bbl

Wow. I have all the Es. Can anyone help with the de6/24?
Yes, but I will have to go around this obstacle first...
to take a different path
Great clue, car. Thanks
(goes back into lurk mode as a punishment for stupidity)
No! Stay! I had just gotten the word when you asked!
*Takes the self-depreciation stick away from Matty
i want the stick!
deprecation is the word
(i deserve it after not seeing the ee5 for so long
I have this vision of someone going down in value ;-)
tu8?
to become engorged, or add a cancerous growth
(plural)
self-de·pre·ci·a·tion (sÄ•lf′dÄ-prē′shÄ“-Ä′shÉ™n) n\n. Disparagement or undervaluation of oneself and one's abilities
well not plural, cause it's a verb, but you know what i mean
ty
Yes, Molly .... I now see the difference. I have never used the "depreciation" term before.
Self-deprecation is the act of reprimanding oneself. Self-depreciation, in contrast, is belittling, undervaluing, or disparaging oneself, or being excessively modest.
apologies
em 6/24, first one, pls
TY, diane.

bye car...
heading out for a while....bye to all who remain!
morning
I will be putting my kitty, Bagheera down later today. I believe he had a stroke yesterday.
that sucks, phand. how old is he?
around 16 years old. We adopted him in 2000, he was estimated to be 1.5-2 years old.
he also has hyperthyroidism and kidney disease.
common in older cats... the person who finds a cure for kidney failure will save many lives.
((((Phand)))) so soory.
it's good your doctor is available on Sunday
Thanks, Stidmama.
Jes, the vet that is coming to my house isn't actually my current vet. Though she will be now. She is one that is a house call vet. She is coming to me this evening at 6:30 and she doesn't even know me from adam.
ah. well, it's good someone's available, then. A lot of doctors don't do home euthanasia, so it's good that's available too.
yes. She is a well loved local vet that left the practice she was part of and started up this home vet service. I have heard wonderful things about her and her great love for animals is already apparent to me.
do you have other cats, or is Bagheera a one-kitty guy?
Glad you are sorted with a vet, but sorry for what you have to do phan
mute
I have a female orange tabby. Her name is Amber. She is maybe 10.
I prescribe lots of cuddling with Bagheera this afternoon, and lots of cuddling with Amber afterwards.
sounds like a good idea.
there's a certain peace to letting go of an animal in their home. THat is nice of the vet.
Yes, incredibly nice. I am thankful I don't have to take him to an emergency vet, or make him wait another day.
I'm sorry phan.. but it sounds like you've given the cat a very nice life.. that's the best we can do
indeed.
so sorry about Bagheera, phan :-(
{{phan}} very sad
awww, just read about your cat, phan - ((((hugs)))) - just had to go through a similar thing with our well-loved Jack kitty last summer, he, too, had a stroke or something like it, resulting from some inoperable tumors around his neck. still miss him.
good morning/afternoon, everyone
sorry about your cat, phan - sounds like she's had a good life though
ar 5 clue please?
ar + french summer
ty cyber

hi jes

hi jes
howdy nan, MLF
are tu 5and 6 related?
good question, i don't have either of them.
me either
yes they are related
sing. & pl.
sing?
singular
tu 5-6: alt. sp for a stocking cap
remember the mackenzie brothers?
it is spelled the way it should be though i just googled it
thank you for the clues
thanks, nan
not if you live in canada, mlf
oh?
to in canada
Same in the UK - to
that would be a different word here in the us i think?
in the usa it is a chef's hat
I suspect that once again usa lexicographers have spelled things to suit themselves
I think that spelling originated in France Cyber
to is also for a chef's hat - just checked
the to may have originated in france, but it is still the accepted sp here and in britain
well.. that settles that then.. if Britain and Canada spell it that way the whole world should
I was not being snide about usa lexicographers --- look at all the other english words they have changed the sp. for --- just about all words ending in our for one and in re for another
it did come off a little condescending as a comment
Hi, Just blew in
hi Annie
hi ruru :)
I guess I just don't like that usa has changed the spelling of so many english words
mostly they just drop the U don't they?
though and tho, through and thru -- there are a few of those as well
and change re to er :)
wait, who uses tho and thru?
I've seen them in lots of us crosswords and here
I use Through
not that enable counts for much
I don't use thru or tho
yeah, I always consider thru to be almost slang
texting has destroyed the English language I think
agreed
and I've never seen tho
I always wince when professional sports players misuse the language.. "he don't always show up!"
the theater/theatre or niter/nitre thing is just a minor annoyance from my perspective... I could argue that the US version is a bit easier phonically, but whatever... I love seeing it written the UK way
that one is not exclusive to the us, ru
I wince and have to restrain myself when someone writes "could of"
Damn Americans. First we kick the British out, then we change their language.
Thank god we still drink tea though (or tho?)
I like the British spellings better in many cases, often use "colour" and "grey" - maybe I'm trying to be exotic? or just pretentious, lol
I much prefer grey to gray, but I can't bring myself to add the letter u to things
Hi Folks
yeah try calling Oprah a woman of Colour to her face Rbud :d
hi hegs
you do? ---- every winter we have rented a place in CA or AZ for the winter I have either had to go out and buy or bring my own kettle and tea pot
Hi nrkii and Rbud! Haven't seen you 2 for a while.
hello, hego! :) lol, ru, I'd never dare to! :D
Hi Ru
she'd buy your house and kick you out
:D
Is he being bad again?
<moi? mais non
or should I say as usual.
Hi Hego! Good to see you. I'm usually here every day, but have become a lurker because of crazy work schedule... no time for chatting, and I feel bad asking for clues without contributing to the chat
Mai oui!
Bonjour tout le monde!!
nrkii nobody would mind your asking.
salut, peri
Bonjour Madame Pero!
Hi Peri!
lol Peri
I only have time for chatting :D
I'd make a terrible lurker
Oh dear, all the tea kettles and pots must have gone over in The Boston Tea Party.
pe 6/27 please pe 6/27, please?
ruru, the beauty of being a lurker is nobody knows if you are bad at it, right?

bad lurking examples, ru? lol!
help with q words pls. I have qu5/16 and qu7/44
the thing about lurkers is you never know what they're thinking :D
qu5 - line (as in at the department of motor vehicles)
I like when just a couple of letters pop into the chat, from someone who never talks, and everyone greets them warmly... :D
That's because you don't read Facebook, Ru : P
other 2 build off of that
just lurking.....
HA HA
:)
ty nrkii
snarky stuff like that assures me my decision to stay off facebook was a good one
You could join as your Babble name like Crossy.
Actually we have a lot of fun on FB.
facebook to me is more of a gateway drug, just to get to where I really want to be, playing a few of the games. but you can't help but notice a lot on the way through. :p
We have a Babble community that Crossy created for us where we can be in touch.
plus I'm a member of a few really good pages, where a bunch of us crazy old ladies share a lot and support each other through rough times - kind of nice, like here. :)
I joined facebook several years ago so I could play "scrabble" with babble friends... rest is history... so many good connections and reconnections there
... hums... swing loooow.. sweet chariot... a comin' a to taaaake a me homeeeee
It is very nice rbud.
I have never had a bad experience there.
lost a lot of spam when I finally got rid of facebook
others have hego
And I can keep abreast of my large scattered family all over the country.
<--I'd like to keep a breast too
:D
firm
Some folks don't have the sense to realize that they are in public there and to behave accordingly.
ugh!!!!
sorry!!!
LOL nrkii
Was waiting for that even as I typed it. :)
also was getting e-mail that made me suspect that my privacy was being compromised through fb
no doubt nan
the dangers of habitual lurkers unlurking
:)
even gmail.. does stuff like that
yeah, you sure have to know how to block stuff you don't want to see, and people who irritate you, etc. My fb experience is mostly pleasant now, after years of refining. (now if I had the nerve to block my sis, lol... j/k)
lol rbud
hi all - am a FB fan but .. you do need to use discretion
and speaking of favorite friends on FB! Hi Aloy.
re 6/27 please?
hi hego, love your little penguin.. in honor of the warm weather?
right :(
won't tell you that I just came in from working in the grove and poured myself a cold drink

hello ****, hello fadda.. but I didn't use that
I get to drive with the top down on my car today :D
:P
but the Snow is "pretty" isn't it?
if my lemonade is delivered by a cabana boy..
You mean because it's not raining for a change.
<---bad weather in California.. (partly sunny)
The cabana boys are on strike
see, now this is where the fb "like" button comes in handy, would be nice to be able to use it on you folks and your supremely witty comment, lol
virtual cabana boys do not strike!
love your icon molly..did you find that at creepy icons.com where BR goes?
I sincerely miss the "like" button here in the chat
the weemee brought it to her, ruru
Ruru is easily creeped out.
Oh you poor deprived child. You never saw the Rankin Bass special "Santa Clause Is Comin' To Town"? That is the Winter Warlock.
nrkii true!
what do you mean nrkii?
oops!!
On FB if you like something you push like.
yay, winter warlock!! I like the abominable snowguy, too, and the island of misfit toys.
oh
def. need a "dislike" button too
gulp
it's a little thumbs-up icon (in fb) - and yes, wish there was a thumbs down also, Aloy!
Oh, totally agree!
em 6/24 following the kiwi bird, please?
I bet they tested the "dislike" and found that people were more likely to quit FB if dislike was an option... just think of all the bad ways it could be used
emus that commute use em6
I mean, friends report ill children and relatives.. all kinds of things that are not good news
Because being judgmental in real life just isn't enough...
I've seen it on YouTube, where people give a video a thumbs down, and then people fight about it. Sad.
LOLOLOL
and all you can hit is like
*water ...water.. everywhere*
I just use "comment"
so do I
looking for that em6, gotta be good
commuting clue doesn't make any sense to me
emus that go to work have to em6
not emutoy
I don't have that one either
oh - yes it does -- ty ruru
oh geez, ty ruru
ty
maybe they're really silent emus, lol
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help :-)
wtg, nan.. congrats!!
that second column R is being stubborn for me
yay, nan!
yay cybernan!!
emus are cute
they are also pretty dumb
they have one up at the winery with the castle
only place I've ever seen them is in a zoo
our neighbor had one for a while but got rid of it because it pokes at anything shiny.. including his horse's eye
there was one near my old house.. the dogs were fascinated by it
oh! awful!
winery with the castle?
Castello Amarosa in Napa Cyber
Near Ruru in Napa
So so wine, but great Tuscan castle.
really so-so wine
hego would love to live in the castle though I bet
are you a Napa native, ruru.. or how did you wind up in such a place?
I was being kind
oh -- only winery I've been where there was anything resembling a castle was in OR
I grew up in the Bay Area Aloy.. moved to Napa when I got in the Wine biz from College
Not really Ru. I like the modern conveniences.
ah so.. a native Californian
yep
Darryl Satui is a really nice guy though
he owns the castle
I heard that.
very generous and helpful in the community.. I admire that
Great marketing idea that.
omg .. thousands visit there hego.. weekly
I saw that.
more Iphone pics than you can shake a stick at :D
We took some...lol
I used the camera though.

Love to drive in sports mode!

i am back from the cold...dug my car out....silk longjohns, flannel lined jeans, scarf mask, hood on....wasn't too bad....only my fingertips got cold...
my niece in southern Maine got 21 inches....we only got about 7....
Did it stop?
brrrrrrrrrrr
yes, stopped late this morning, but the wind is very strong...brutal....
silk longjohns? I didn't even know that was a thing, penquis. Tell me more!
jes is intrigued
yes, and i have silk undershirt, too...
didn't Michael Jackson wear silk longjohns?
You sexy thing!
don't know.....we were never that close...
Not any more Ruru
jes has Reynaud's and serious issues with cold weather - comfy longjohns might save her from frostbite someday!
they make it easier to get pants on....easier than cotton or flannel ones...
Oh, I hope so. Stay nice and warm jes.
lightweight, comfortable and efficient
Penq, are they warm.
I'm into anything that makes it easier to get pants off
i bought mine years ago, don't remember where....but i bought a new pair a month ago on sale at LL Bean....
I have Reynaud's as well, and silk is very helpful... long johns, sock liners, glove liners...
that is where we bought ours, penquis
On! She said on Ry.
and they have lasted a LONG time!
I used to get them at EMS, but now just order from Amazon if I need new ones.
oh
i wear lined gloves inside of wool mittens, nrkii. mittens are my bestest friends some days.
brutal cold out here lately is 60 degrees
yeah, jes, I often find it's better to go gloveless to avoid a Raynaud's episode. Oddly enough bare hands sometimes are better than gloved. Mittens are awesome but so hard to do anything in them.
ru...that is the temp of our ocean in the summer... ;o)
:)
our ocean is always freezing out here
freezing to you would probably be warm to us....
gloveless = serious pain for me. mittens mean I can usually accomplish chores without my fingers being dead-flesh purple followed by re-perfusion pain.
I was reading that there are more shark attacks in Florida than anywhere else in the country.. by a substantial number
No the Pacific is cold.
Evening all xx
Jes, depends on what I have to do... if it's just walking from house to car, or car to office, I can go bare-handed. If I have to shovel, I must wear gloves and/or mittens.
i went swimming once at the end of June and my feet went numb....
hi worzel...
heh. i had ice cream last night, which caused my hands to go numb and purple. i am so broken.
hi penquis
I went swimming in July in Maine, and lost feeling in my feet. But I loved it!
my cousin laughed at me because I was huddled in a heavy coat and driving gloves, eating ice cream.
Hi Worzel
hiya hego
Jes, that's definitely worse than me. I can usually get away with ice cream as long as I don't hold the container for too long.
it makes me sad, because I used to love going out in winter; snow mobiling, or sledding, or riding my pony in the snow, and now I can barely get out to feed him without issues.
Oh jes, how old were you when your Raynaud's came on? I was 22 or 23.
hi worzel.. we are still reading the manual and I'm laughing.. should have read it 15 years ago!
hi aloyisius
in retrospect started showing signs? or when it was diagnosed? signs probably 1996ish, diagnosed in 2005ish
so i'd have been 19 or 20 when i started noticing cold/white/numb finger tips but didn't realize it was an actual issue.
I don't know how old you are now, and don't mean to pry. Just a different disease if it shows up early vs. later.
Oh... that's good. Early!
just thought, 'huh, that's weird' but they always warmed up quickly and didn't hurt at that point.
Mine came on in 1991, and I was diagnosed about a week later because I freaked out completely.
First time it happened, it took 20 minutes to get the circulation back in my 2 affected fingers.
I had never heard of Raynaud's, and I'm a hypochondriac, so I figured I was dying.
i hadn't heard of it either, and didn't even mention it to the doctor - was an 'incidental' diagnosis, because my toes turned purple sitting in the exam room waiting for the doctor to arrive one time when I was in for my routine yearly
I remember visiting my brother's house several years ago, and they keep their house so cold that when I walked barefoot on the bathroom floor just before bed I ended up losing feeling in almost all my toes. It took about half an hour of a lot of discomfort to get them back to normal.
tried meds/they help at all? doc put me on calcium channel blocker but I quit after 1 dose because it caused migraine. yay.
No, I just deal with lifestyle changes. Keep emergency supplies in my car, and am careful not to ignore possible issues.
Is there a T4 missing from the list?
dunno, haven't listed. I have te4, to4x3, tr4x4, tu4, and ty4 but am missing 2 t's
and dog is whining at door, back in a bit.
oh, I hadn't scrolled down to see the TY :)
FW

Does anyone have any suggestions on a large series of novels. Just finished my last lot and need some new ones to read?
what kind of novels do you like?
Oh look at Zoom, he got the ♪♫♪♫ thing : D
Just finished a seven book novel on Septimus heap. A magical wizard..also finished a book called white teeth by Sadi smith..Do not mind as long as it is not too much on crime and murder
Teehee! I have lots more, Molly :-)
ah...i may not be the one to help you then....i read mostly mysteries....
Mysteries as in?
crime...
there is a good series of historical mysteries set in Henry VIII's time....would that interest you?....people do get killed...
Ah yes do not mind them..just want to try some books that are very long but kind of uplifting and don,t mind a bit of humour in them either.
What are they titled, Pen? Will look into them.
just go to Amazon and search for Matthew Shardlake mysteries....CJ Ransom (sp?) is the author....but i would not call them uplifting.....and no humor.....just good historical novels...
you should read them in order if you decide to read them...
There is one called Artamène ou le Grand Cyrus by Madeleine de Scudéry, And it is has 13,095 pages in 10 volumes :-)
Thank you, Pen.Will look now!
wow.....never heard of that one....
have you read Pillars of the Earth?....that's a very long book....a good read...
Cross Stitch / Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Love, honour, duty and a woman who has to keep her wits and humour about her in an unfamiliar time and place. Lots of humour and emotional pain.
turd
oops :o
Cross Stitch??....i have read the Outlander series.....liked the first three books, but felt they were deteriorating.....didn't like the fourth one much...
The shardlake mysteries look rather good, Pen.Might go for those.
i have enjoyed them and so have the friends i recommended them to....
Ok next is pillars of the earth & Cross stitch..checking them out now..Thank you, Pen & Wenchbabe :-)
First in the series was called Cross Stitch in the UK. I thought the first four were the best but all good.
ah....ok...not called that here...
By Diana Gabaldon?
Yes.
there is sort of a sequel to Pillars of the Earth written many years later....forget the title....i think they can stand alone though....
Those outlander ones are they a series??? as some just say outlander and others say outlander 1 through to 5?
6 even.
yes, the story goes on and on....
Cool i will go for those too!
have you read the James Clavell novels?...Shogun et al?
Ken Follet Edge of Eternity trilogy might be the ones after pillars of the earth..Dose that ring any bells, Pen?
yes, i think those are the ones....i have not read them....
Just looked up the shogun ones..not my type of reading..But I thank you for the suggestion though!
no problem...
i am going to start Wolf Hall tonight....heard that it is going to be shown in a miniseries on PBS in April....
Hillary mantel.
yes....have had it on the shelf for a long time...
I had many books I bought but never read..But alas I have now got through them all :-(
Tehn I say to myself..why on earth did i not read that earlier..lol
Zooz, if you rummaged around in your carboot sales for any of John Irvings novels, you would be doing yourself a huge favour. I almost got put off an aeroplane once for laughing so hysterically at The Hotel New Hampshire.
for the last few months, i have been going through "Mount Bookpile"....trying to read stuff on the shelf....
Searching the author out now, Soodle, Thanks :-)
The World According To Garp is another I highly recommend.
He has done a lot of books, Soodle!
well i am off to get dinner together....bye!
hahaha I like the mount bookpile name, Pen!
Thanks for the suggestions, Pen.Enjoy your meal :-)
At the moment I'm reading A Confederacy of Dunces. It's great.
John Kennedy Toole.
I'm also looking forward to reading Harper Lee's prequel to To Kill A Mockingbird. Anybody here read it yet?
To kill a mockingbird is a classic!
She thought she had lost the script to this book..but then it was found!
Go set a watchman is going to be the next one.
I do not think it has been published yet, Soodle.
Might go for..In Search of Lost Time, by Marcel Proust.
Sorry for hogging the chat everyone. You will be pleased to know I am now retiring for the evening ...Toodle pips for now :-)
Nite Zooz, ole pal. Sleep well.
Dunno if I ever said it before on Babble, but isn't Zooz a lovely person? He stays away from the drama, he is always pleasant. We are lucky to have him in our midst. Just thought I'd mention it. I'm off to bed now too. Night all.
Harper Lee's sequel has not been released yet
de6 clue please?
go another way
Always stays away from drama, always pleasant...Zoom is the man.
i can hear the wind rattling....even in my brick building...
i am glad i don't have to go out tomorrow.....will keep busy doing my yearly filing....necessary to get taxes done...
can also do some more work on the second scarf i am knitting....
thanks, champ
So, I helped my kitty cross over the rainbow bridge. I know it was the right thing to do, but I am so devastated right now.
ah....sorry for your loss....
yw, Jes
Phan, do you have any friends to call, or is your husband there to sit with you?
My husband is here. My localish kids came home to say goodbye and my son started to dig a hole to bury him in.
Well good. I'm glad you have a support group around you.
And you must have a very sturdy son because the ground here is frozen solid.
yeah. I hate making this decision.
so sorry for your loss, phan
Feel your sadness right here Phandmd. Sad day for you.
He said it was only frozen past a few inches.
Thank you g'mere.
There are so many passages in a lifetime. This passing of a household friend is difficult.
Hello all,
Hello sukee. Staring at the grid and not watching the chog. Clear skies but a little brisk here in the great Northwest.
Cold, cold, cold here. I'm typing a lot to help keep me warm :)
Treasure your memories of all the good times, phand. You made his life better by giving him a home for all those years. All cats should be so lucky.
