There are supermarket flowers, a white bouquet of wild flowers fromyesterday's doog walk, and q lovely but ephemeral vase of peonies and roses from the garden.

This started out as a grim day, but being here has cheered me
I thought the ones we have at our new house were bug free, but when I looked closely there were tiny little ants about 1/16 inch long crawling all over them
a grim day, ruby?
What color are your peonies? They'remy favoriteflower

the lady who owned this house previously loved pink --- every room was a different shade of pink.

Very historic day in this part of the world. With a majority of 66%, Irish people have voted to repeal the 8th amendment to our Constitution, which bans abortion. This means that Irish women who have been given a diagnosis of fatal foetal anomilies will no longer have to travel to the UK and beyond for a termination. I campaigned long and hard for a repeal vote & I and fellow campaigners, whilst not europhhic (who could be europhic about abortion) are feeling quietly vindicated. I am very very proud to be Irish today.
I'm glad you got what you were voting for. I have a lot of comments about legalized abortion, some pro and some con. But that is a very heated topic so I won't set the chat log on fire.
Congratulations, Soodle, for your hard work paying off. I can understand what you are saying;I can't imagine how hard it would be to find out that your pregnancy wouldn't be successful, but there isn't anything you could do about it in your own country.
In 1989, At 22 weeks pregnant, I was told that the baby I was carrying was 'not compatible with life'. I went full term with her, because I had no alternative, other than travel to another jurisdiction. I gave birth to her within earshot of of other mothers having live babies. My little girl never took a breath.
Same from me Soodle
Typing through tears....
Typing through tears....
I'm so glad I live in a blue state
I'm Irish Catholic, and when I was pregnant with our daughter, we had to decide if the risk of having her (for both the baby's sake and mine) was worth whatever the outcome would be; and I know how hard that decision was for us. Both of us came through the pregnancy & delivery fine, however; but if my state or country ruled that abortions weren't allowed and we had decided that abortion was the only option, I don't know what I would have done.
I'm so sorry to hear of your poor baby girl, Soodle! (((Soodle)))
Well, since the discussion is on...I'm all for abortion in situations when the pregnancy is determined to be fatal, or it is life threatening to the mother. However, once there is across the board, legalized abortion, it gets used as birth control. I have a problem with that.
I'm glad that I have the freedom to choose.
They need to teach and have access to birth control. Prevention is much better.
but the option should still be there.
Thank you girls.....
There is plenty of education and access to birth control in the US. However, abortion is still used as birth control.
That's a generalization.
Molly and others, most staes that are opposed to birth control are also blocking access to sex education for teens and adults. Look at Texas; they now have the highest number of teen pregnancies across the nation; abortions and Planned Parenthood are not allowed.
I worked in a proLife center for the last 6 years of my nursing career. If we taught sex education to womenwe had fewerr unwanted pregnancies. We were not allowed to even discuss contraceptives or abortion in our center; but we had nurse midwives who came & saw our clients there and if the client wanted "other options" (contraceptives or an abortion or sterilization) they were referred to other members of their OB practice.
I'm bowing out of this. It has become a "leftist" discussion with no room for alternate opinions.
It's become a human discussion, in my reading
No, Molly, I don't feel you should bow out.
Ireland, for centuries, was under the control of the Catholic Church. Today's vote was a kick in the ass to the 'men wearing dresses' or, as I saw them described today on social media 'cocks in frocks'.
Molly, I appreciate your opinion, but unless you have the data o back it up, then don't say it
Applause for Nef & Dan & Bich's Post!!!
Molly, I'd like to hear your opinion about abortion being used as birth control. Could you please elaborate more on this? The number of abortionsin the US is less than half of the number of abortions here in 1996.
I'm very sorry to have kicked this off. I'm home alone this evening & really needed to speak about the historic events of today. I'll slink off & quietly search for words now....
Don't feel sorry Soods. I appreciate you opinions
Please don't leave, Soodle. I think it's okay to talk about
(time for a pregnant pause?)
(((( love most Babblers))))
LOL, ruru!
(((Soodle)))
One of the things that I have always found interesting is that men always blame to woman for getting pregnant; and they put the laws on the women. It's like THEY have Nothing to do with the pregnancy! And the woman is shamed!
I'm not sure I believe that nef
Okay, ru, which part(s) don't you believe?
there should be more contraceptive options for men that are for men though and not leave it all as the woman's responsibility..
I was hoping this discussion would veer into a rubber match
(I'm trying to discuss this topic, not argue)
True Nef! If you google Magdalene Laundries, Or 'Tuam Mother and baby homes' you will get a flavour of the truly shocking treatment of Irish women & girls in the not too distant past.
I think that both partners nowadays (generally) (mature partners that is) believe it is the responsibility of both people to prevent pregnancies and other issues.
men need to take a pill....
I agree mix.. it should be that easy
The problem with male contraceptives is that in the past it *might* have affected their sex drive.
There IS a pill for men... recently on market. {{(( soodles))}}
That might help.
how does it work TK?
Please do the google searches I recommended.... you will then see what a monumental change today:
.... today's referendum decision makes..
And for a couple that is done having children, (if you look at the difference between male & female sterilization), for a man it's a simple office procedure; whereas for women it's done under anesthesia and requires surgery (be it major or laparoscopic surgery) and a recovery time. Men don't want to be clipped!
no one wants to be charged with testicular manslaughter nef
It's hormone based ruru, but I stand corrcted - still in human trials but excellent results. problem seems to have been that men metabolise quicker, so formulation needed to extend to 24 hour period
well..it's about time
Soodle, I had heard of the Magdalene Laundries before; I didn't know they were still in existance so recently!
Nef...they existed in my lifetime. Not 100 years ago - utterly barbaric.
https://tinyurl.com/yarsypbh Guardian article, not too technical, but decent info about male pill.
And then, the Tuam Babies thing is altogether on another level.... Holy Catholic Ireland???? My Ass!!!!
I just hope it's well conceived
Read about the Magdalene laundries too. They may have been referenced here before. Barbaric :(
One of my sisters-in-laws was sent to a Catholic home for pregnant girls back in 1980 (it was my brothers' baby too, they were married the year after that); but she wasn't allowed to see her baby & only knew it was a boy because the nurse told the OB at delivery that "he wasn't breathing" (meaning the baby). She wasn't put through the horrors that the Irish women were, but it took 21 years before they found out what happened to that boy. We now know him and there i s no mistaking that he is their child; but they missed out on so much of his life.
In the course of my work I'm dealing with the Tuam Babies..... government departments batting it between each other... nobody taking responsibility
Nef... that is heart-breaking.
OMG, Soodle! That is horrid! (I'm reading about it now!
Septic tanks!!!!
Septic tanks!!!!
Nearly 800 babies & toddlers died there; and about 1000 illegally sent to the US for adoption. Poor, poor babies!
Happy you read up on it Nef. Maybe you will get a feel for how much of a seismic change today's vote means for this country.
Yes, I do. I'm just crying about those poor, poor babies. And this was a home run by an order of Nuns! Dear God!
I'm 57. When I was at school, many of my friends suffered 'nervous breakdowns'. It's only in recent years that it dawned on me that they were actually having babies, not nervous breakdowns... doh!!!!
I never knew that the girls sent away to "help their sick relatives" were probably pregnant. Isn't it odd how the stories were told to explain their absences?
{{{Soodle}}} So moved by your story and your dedication to making things better for women who come after you
I first learned about the adoptions to USA when I saw the film Philomena
I don't care for movies, Natasha, but it sounds like it's based on a book I might like to read.
Super movie, Natasha! And , yep!, I feel I have made a difference for my daughter's daughters. I'm happy to have been part of a cultural change.
(wondering if soodle's daughters will now have a bunch of sons)
ru, whatever her daughters have, I hope they are wanted and loved & cherished. I think that that is somethingthat contraceptives and abortions have improved
could I haveclues for he5 and he6 please.
PMS, there's an he 6/36, the he7/52 is a pl. It's an old TV show from the 60's
you mean 6 and 7? how a donkey laughs?

Girls.... you all have been Uber supportive this evening. I needed support & vindication & Babble didn't fail me. Thank you all for the Private Messages & the online support. I am utterly exhausted after weeks of fairly contentious campaigning, so I'm off to bed. You guysare the best & I thank you all. Mwah XXX
Good Night Soodle. Sleep well.
Got them. Thank you LeslieAnn and Nef
Niters soodle. Sleep well and deeply. Well done, you <3
I have 46 words left, all consonants (which is rare for me)and haven't seen or monkeyed a new word in a long while. I'm taking a break from Babble & will be back after I do some housework.
I have 1 left, s7. I am mortified by how long it took me to figure out ro5. That's the trouble with babblets - sometimes the thought that "it will be some weird word" distracts from seeing the REAL word (at least for me).
... then you'll be mortified by the so7 too
... a random person
(hangs her head in shame)
... ain't that the way of it
I had thought it might be some fancy word having to do with sleep! :-)
... sleep is almost always better with so7
LOL excellent riposte
well, my FW this evening are on the damp side... yet another round of thunderstorms approaches. We've lost power 2x already and my dog is having a nervous breakdown.
... hey ... I'm just delaying going out to finish the lawn ... ... there's always just one more word
the good part about thunderstorms is, no one is expected to do yard work
... yeah ... but I've put it off so long ... that it's getting desperate .... ... but the thunderstorms are coming ... so maybe I can delay just long enough
... and done .... can't stall any longer ... 'til tomorrow
back again. It's too hot here to mow; Our front yard has spread dandelions throughout the neighborhood I think (I don't like herbicides and it was first too cold to think of yard work; now it's been too hot the past 3 days (& sporadic rainstorms) so the dandelions grew & seeded and are standing about a foot tall (Darn mower won't start for anyone, so Thursday it was taken to be fixed.)
dandelion greens for dinner, nef?
Hey everyone.
Hi Jen
Hi origami!
Is your cat a Manx, jen?
yes, she is
she is also known as my sister
very pretty. We had a couple of calico manx barn cats when I was a kid. They were fierce.
Calico is an inside cat, she loves her daddy but she doesn't care for me.
Cats are persnickety.
hint for the bottom A?

Good evening all. May I please have a clue for ar5-12? Thanks
Hi again. I've been trying to fix my ancestry tree
ar 5/12 is a member of the spider family
Thanks, Nef. Looking
(I'm glad that's not a member of my family tree!) ;-)
AR 5/12 spider family? are we using different grids? I have it as a smell/scent
Oh, Shoot! I just clued ar 7/32! I'm so sorry!
been there; done that... ;)
Hello Nef, peach, and origami (and of course, all the lurkerz)
Hi Kate. How are you tonight?
Thanks, Kate and Nef.
FW finally. Thanks for the help. Blessings
YAY, gap each!!! WTG!!!
I have 20 left; all r's and s'es
Hi again, wandedred off to the kirchen for a minute and got swallowed up by a black hole - from which I have returned!!!
Congratulations peach!!
Congratulations peach!!
Congratulations peach!!
argh
I'm wandering in and out while I paint.
what are you painting ori?
Kate, at least your black hole is in the kitchen; tonight I feel like my mind is a black hole! I'm planning this family reunion; and went to Ancestry.com to track down some family members I hadn't found yet. I have my family tree open so others may view it and 4 different people have added to my tree while adding to theirs; but there is a lot of weird duplicates and bad information on my tree now
A vase with wheat stalks, alums and a cotton stalk. A still life.
Someone has me down as the mother-in-law of my husband's father!
Sounds like a rather inbred family tree Nef :-)
you have to watch that Nef... if you can, isolate their added info until you can verify. People's memories aren't as good as they think. (and research can be written badly with wrong dates etc.) It's next month, right? Is it to be in your town? I saw yesterday that you have to do all the legwrok for e-mails etc... big job- but it will be worth it!
Where do you come up with the ideas of what you're painting, ori?
So.... they have "aged" you a bit tooooo much? can you messge people to straighten it out?
Pictures I see, photos I take and other painters. I have some online teachers also.
To correct it; I have to find out how many people added to my tree (there are 4 others, all from my husbnads' family); then about 5 steps for each correction (I think). I'm getting there; but I'd like to block them from adding
I envy folks with a large family. I hope you really enjoy the reunion.
That's good to know, ori. When I sit downto paint; mymind goes blank and I can't think of any subjects at all. (But I do have some photos I've taken that would make great paintings!)
I am such a newbie painter, that my struggle comes with finding the right color combos to mimic the photo. But, I am getting better.
gotta start somewhere ori, good for you for pickingit up!
Kate, I'm not suree who the people are. I've just tracked their urls to that side of the tree.
I'll FB a couple of my paintings to you guys. Let me know what you think.
You've shown me a couple of your paintings already, ori; I was so impressed & awed by your talent!
That
That's right. Thanks Nef. I struggle :-)
That's be great ori. I will go loo for them. Haven't been on FB revently.
But, ya know. It is supposed to be fun. So sometimes I paint silly, funky, simple paintings.
And ori, I have about 120 people who have said they are coming to the reunion; about 30 said they can't make it; and another 30 + that haven't made up their minds yet. And now today I just found the missing part of the family too!
I guess there's no way to message them in the Ancestry site? (or keep people from adding until you okay it?)
missing from where Nef?
This may be too big of a family for you! (It's certainly starting to overwhelm me right now!)
Sounds like a big tree Nef. Maybe keep it to direct lines back until you get stuck then work on one branch at a time. Helps with the crazy-making.
My grandfathers brother had 7 kids; and until last night we didn't have any contact with any of them after he died in 1944. The cousin who started this reunion decided to go back to our great-grandfathers' family descendants
I am sure that I would love it. I do celebrate the family I have left - a niece and her children. I re-met them for the first time in 40 years in October 2016. Such a blessing.
Kate, the one great Aunt onlyhad 1 daughter who never married. Another great aunt had 4 children but she and all of them died by age 43 (there is only 1 second cousin from that family; and she's going to come!) However, the remaining 3 had large prolific families; we knew that they existed, butnot so many
That's a lot of people to keep tabs on... you need a FB group page for all of you.. then you can share what you find jfor the tree and stay in touch easier than e-mail...
Where is that secnd cousing now? Far away?
A FB group is a good idea Kate.
Wow, ori! That's a long time to go without seeing family!
We did start one there back in November; a closed group so only people we let in can see it
I am afraid to ask why your extended family is so small ori... glad you were able to get in touch with some of them -- especially after so long!
Well, I did have others in my family, who have since passed. But, yes, her father took her off when she was 2 years old and I only found her through FB. FB haters take note.
Kate - will message you.
The 2nd (I think she's really a 2nd once removed to me) is from California
Well, that's rottesdn... I hate to see the kids miss out on "family" because grown ups can't manage to get a along :(
Agreed, Kate.
OK ori. I will look in a bit. don't rush.
Lived it, dodn't like it one bit :(
Yep; been there too.
sux, doesn't it? Soooo how's the weather shaping up on yiur long weekend?
Hot. Very hot. Possible thunderstorms. Humid too
How about you?

Well, warm days (finally!!!) cool nights, right now no humidity. we were supposed to get 2 days of rain starting today, but nada here... though they did get it further north of Toronto and parts west... we will see. Hi grannyrose
No need to be sorry Nef... it's like Oz here, people come and go so quickly here ;)
and my words also wander off; I KNOW I've entered several of these words before!
I lost some too- at the beginning... but I may have been entering faster than my internet could take them up..Others habe mentioned this lately as well.
I know I saw them in my list, the first 3 re4's all had to be put back in again.
mine were all little fish too!
crazy grid. (Kate, we'll end up crazy little old ladies muttering to ourselves in the now too distant future if we aren't careful!)
sets you back. just whe you thinl you're getting somewhere... they go walkabout on you ;)
yep! :-)
Working on it Nef.. I need a vrazy cat lady starter kit :0 I was talking to myself all through the grocery store last time I was out... I must get out more ;)
Babble will be the death of me too Nef...I was Babbling in my sleep a few nights ago - looking for RE and C words...not quite a nightmare
I think that socialization might help all of usat times.
Oh, MY! That's time to take a break from Babble then.
I have 5 4 letter words left. Want to bet that I had them earlier? (the last 5 words I've entered have been words that I was sure I entered earlier!)
It wasn't that bad - I was finding the words! Summer is here and it is high time for a bit of face-to-face action, indeed!
My last word is pa12. Any cluers?
pa 5/12 is first 4 letters the same as the other pa5, last letter is a vowel
