3:08 am

*giggles*

3:08 am

how are you today, jai?

3:09 am

Yes. It applies... I should go to bed, but I am not sleepy.

3:09 am

All right. My bac hurts a lot, but that is nothing new,

3:10 am

For give my spelling. I stink at texting

3:10 am

Good morning, my Babble friends. :)

3:11 am

Hi, there.

3:11 am

*hugs crossy* Hello my friend, how are you?

3:11 am

Joke: You get 007 points for this puzzle...

3:11 am

*sends healing vibes to jai's back*

3:12 am

lol jai

3:12 am

((Sprite)) I am doing well, and you?

3:12 am

TY for healing vibes. Its okay to send prayers, as well.

3:12 am

doing well too. Been a bit too busy of late and now am tired, but otherwise all good.

3:13 am

you got it, jai, adding you to my prayer list, honey

3:13 am

K. Thanks!

3:14 am

Also having cataract surgery on right eye Monday... I am old. Really old. Sigh.

3:14 am

I was young when I first Babbled... But now, am oldf.

3:15 am

the devil is old. You, you are just mature. And wi4. And experienced. Will think of you Monday.

3:15 am

And I still cannot type, either! LOL!

3:16 am

Ty. Wise? Hmmm. Have to consider that one...

3:16 am

My beloved had cataract surgery on both eys--at 35 years of age or so. it will change your life, and is totally painless

3:16 am

If you mean I know lots of obscure and mostly useless wwords, then I am very, very wise.

3:17 am

that too, jai!

3:18 am

I knew I was lost in the land of the obscure once i realized that I know at least two different ways to spell "needle case" :)

3:18 am

I am 26 years older than that. And so nearsighted that this may be really great... No glasses for the first time since I was very young!

3:18 am

The entire operation on both eyes took 20 minutes--tops

3:19 am

Needle case? I said I knew lots of obscure words- but do not ask me to tell you their definitions!

3:19 am

lol crossy, ikr? And a word for 'having an ample bosom'... and some apparently vowelless words... a hairy-nosed dolphin...

3:20 am

etui and etwee, jai

3:20 am

I unfortunately must be knocked out- so it will take longer for me. But it should be okay.

3:20 am

I always have issues with the dolphin--is it inia, or inai? or some other variant?

3:21 am

Oh! That's what those mean! Only 35,000 more to learn!

3:21 am

you might enjoy my profile, jai. At the bottom, there is a list of babble idiom, with most babblets and their definitions.

3:21 am

inia.

3:21 am

Inia...I think. Who knows?

3:21 am

I will look it up!

3:22 am

and let's not forget all those lovely Celtic and Gaelic words

3:22 am

Today's puzzle had some homonyms....

3:22 am

the other part of my profile is a list of words that should be words (but are not) and their meanings. Compiled with the help of many babblers.

3:22 am

Oh, yes, and obscure OE words as well!

3:23 am

I used to make up a story with all of the words in the puzzle- do you remember that

3:24 am

all the fishes with their obscure names too... and other sealiving creatures. All the ones that our Atalante could spot in a second, but we cannot.

3:24 am

Does this mean I am an oldtimer?????

3:24 am

oh yes, I do! Those were hilarious, jai

3:24 am

But that puzzle the other dasy had as zillion words- oh my. It took me 6 hours.

3:25 am

*a zillion

3:25 am

oldtimer?? Hold it, sister... I have been here at least a year longer, lol

3:26 am

Today's went faster because of the word families

3:27 am

I remarried in 2015, and have been busy with new life in Pa!

3:27 am

I was not sure you had heard.

3:28 am

no! Oh wow jai, lots and lots of happiness for the both of you. How wonderful.

3:29 am

I met Wade online way back... But we finally got married after the longest courtship in history.

3:30 am

TY! He is great! Such a sweetie... And younger than me! I am a "cougar". LOL!

3:30 am

so romantic :) I love it, jai.

3:31 am

good gal! Gooooo jai!

3:32 am

Me, too. He used to send me emails, and that led to emails back, which led to IMing, which led to phone calls, which led to Skype which led to me movong up to PA in 2011.

3:32 am

that is really wonderful.

3:33 am

I wish I could post a picture here.

3:33 am

Do you remember that my daughter used to be here? Her daughter is now 12.... I am sooooo old!

3:34 am

Knutmeg

3:34 am

lol, nah, you are not. I do remember your daughter, meg something right?

3:34 am

that was it. How is she, and how is your granddaughter doing?

3:34 am

She is really busy with work. I hardly hear from her.

3:35 am

must be a really busy time of life for her

3:36 am

Granddaughter is great, wicked smart! My youngest has two daughters as well.

3:36 am

Three granddaughters- Liv, Lily, and Rose

3:36 am

wow, such good news allover, jai. I am so happy for you.

3:37 am

TY. How about you? What is new?

3:37 am

phantom word geyser which I cannot explain as there is no "g"

3:39 am

let me think. Daughter moved out, started study at an international university two years back. Son still lives at home, but takes care of himself. He is going to scotland in september, to go to the brewer university. Husband is having trouble managing the stress of his job, has been home for a while with a burnout, is now slowly going back.

3:39 am

little Terra still going strong and sweet as ever. And I am training to be a nail stylist, almost done.

3:42 am

I am sorry your hubby is stressed. It is a real problem all over. College can stress a family as well. But I am so glad to see that you are still here. I need a new nail sylist... but I think it would be pretty expensive for me to come to you!

3:43 am

nah, I'd do your nails for free ;)

3:43 am

I have gel nails. My real nails are too thin, so I have to do this once a month.

3:43 am

But treaveling there would be expensive- unless you are really in the USA.

3:43 am

that is what I do, jai. Gel nails, acrylic nails, gel polish, nail art, you name it :D

3:44 am

lol... travelling here would cost you so much you could almost buy yourself a private nail stylist, lollll

3:44 am

nope, still in the netherlands

3:44 am

Sorry about typos. I cannot see verty well. But I am not very good at texting. The keyboard is too small..

3:45 am

I have a friend in the Netherlands- her name is Mandy.

3:45 am

if you ever go visit her, let me know and we will meet up, if you like

3:46 am

Morning everyone

3:46 am

We are online friends. Yes, I would like that! I am in EDT, so you are... six hours ahead of me?

3:46 am

morning Katie!

3:46 am

it is 10.45 am here now

3:47 am

Morning, Katie! I need to get to bed.... Thanks for chat. See you at the flip! Yes, that is six hours...

3:47 am

Nite, all!

3:47 am

Sleep well

3:48 am

night night, jai, lovely catching up with you a bit :)

3:51 am

fireflies. Have fun babbling, all, and have a blessed day and a peaceful night. *hugs Katie and crossy* *leaves hug in chog for ro4 to find*

3:52 am

Congrats sprite enjoy your day x

3:52 am

Congrats sprite enjoy your day x

5:19 am

Anyone there? Insomniac here.....

5:20 am

Morning jai! lil*monkey here

5:24 am

Hiya! Cannot sleep.. too much pain. Need any clues? I'm done.

5:24 am

THank you but I just started! Don't need clues yet.

5:24 am

Sorry you have pain :(

5:25 am

k= just howl if you need any...

5:27 am

pretty normal these days. So I entertain myself as best as I can while hubby sleeps.

5:29 am

Are you near Philly?

5:34 am

about 3 hours north of Philly- been there only twice- great city

5:35 am

Yes I agree, awesome city. My mom is from Philly so we went there a lot when I was a kid.

5:35 am

Where are you/

5:35 am

I am from IL, though.

5:35 am

I live in Yorktown Virginia, it's on the coast of the Chesapeake Bay. Midway between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach.

5:36 am

Grew up in Chicago suburbs...I love Chicago. I have a friend in Bowie, MD. Are you near there?

5:37 am

I want very much to see DC....VA is nice.

5:38 am

About 3-4 hours away. Bowie is a suburb between DC and Baltimore. I am south-southeast of DC.

5:38 am

Which burb did you grow up in?

5:38 am

I went to high school in northern VA, just outside DC, so I know it well.

5:39 am

Oh kitty you are in Chicago? Ive never been but I want to.

5:39 am

I sometimes want to go to Johns Hopkins, As my doctors are not helping me too much.

5:39 am

Cxrystal Lake

5:40 am

Crystal Lake that is

5:40 am

Yes, I am in the city but I grew up in the suburbs too. It's a great city.

5:40 am

I was able to figure that out,:-)

5:40 am

I grew up in Northbrook.

5:41 am

i love Chicago. i used to hop the train and go downtown and see everything.

5:41 am

Northbrook! Yes! For some reason, I am thinking of ice rinks....

5:42 am

Yes! Lots of people training to be competetive skaters there!

5:42 am

I used to spend tons of time at Woodfield Mall.

5:42 am

What a madhouse!

5:43 am

I've been up to Crystal Lake and if I'm remembering right there are morraines (sp?) there?

5:43 am

Yes! That's it! I remember now! I went to Woodfield with a friend, and we spent the day there while her dad worked at Sears.

5:45 am

Wonder Lake has Morraines. Crystal Lake as expensive housing...I raised my family in Wonder Lake.

5:45 am

*has

5:46 am

Had to look up *moraines* That's so cool :)

5:46 am

Veterans Acres is a bit moraine like- a great park

5:47 am

I would love to go to a ball game in Chicago!

5:47 am

Glacier Park is in Wonder Lake. There is a huge moraine hill there.

5:47 am

Go Cubs!

5:48 am

I am still a Cubs fan... I about died and went to heaven when they won the World Series.

5:48 am

Or a football game. I love sports and I hear Chicago has the best fans.

5:48 am

We are extremely patient fans...

5:48 am

Oh that's awesome, jai ! THat's how I felt when the Capitals won the STanley Cup this year.

5:49 am

But the Bulls were wonderful in the 90's, and the Bears... But the Cubs had to drag it out a while...(she added dryly)

5:50 am

I have to run, nice chatting, I'm giving a friend an early morning ride. Perhaps I'll run into you later! (I thought I sent this 5 minutes ago, forgot to hit enter I guess, woops)

5:50 am

I treasure my World Series T=shirt. I should frame it; it is prbably the only one I will own...

5:51 am

Bye!

5:51 am

bye kitty!

5:52 am

Anyone want clues??? I should try to sleep, but I will clue if asked.

5:53 am

I have me5/12 but what are stats for the other M

5:53 am

ME 5 14

5:54 am

OK thanks... I keep entering *meds* over and over. Why is that NOT a word.

5:54 am

it's a weird word...i entered meds, too. It should be a word/ No one says medicines any more.

5:56 am

However- if you switch the last letter of meds, and then add a double vowel, you will get me 5 14.

5:56 am

OK I got it, it's so wack.

5:56 am

'd' in meds...sorry. rusty...Actually, you switch out the

5:57 am

My cursor keeps jumping...

5:58 am

Actually, most of the words in this puzzle are pretty ordinary. There are lots of word families.

5:59 am

Yes I see that! I'm thick in the DEs right now.

6:00 am

does de8 build off the prev de5???

6:01 am

1st DE stands alone. Second and third DE are related. The 8 stands alone after that. The next two (skin ones) are related. The de 6 stands alone. The last is a homonym for a a plural word from a calendar.

6:02 am

Yes, DE 8 stands alone/

6:03 am

got the 8

6:03 am

DE 8 is a negative word...

6:03 am

relates to comments for example

6:05 am

Five of the NO's are related- have to do with the proboscus....

6:06 am

NO 6 is a stupid owl ( a joke)

6:07 am

The OR 6 + 7 are related- almost a brand name of French fries....

6:07 am

hmmm a stupid owl

6:07 am

Owls are supposed to be....

6:07 am

yes had the French fries already

6:08 am

oh just realized I already have no6 haha

6:09 am

Haha sick joke...

6:10 am

SE 5 + 6 are related- think that old round song about the water-going vessel

6:11 am

___, ____, ____ your boat....

6:11 am

oh good clueage, thank you, got those now.

6:12 am

SE 5 + 6 first combo- these words are homonyns for a type of good smelling tree

6:13 am

Had the 5 but didn't have the plural , duh! Thank you

6:14 am

yw! RE 6 24 is a reboot of SO 4 6

6:15 am

4 WR's have to do with scribing...

6:15 am

yup, had those

6:16 am

There are two abominable ones

6:16 am

ha! Yes, have those

6:17 am

The last word I have never seen. YW + verb of being

6:17 am

oh that's wack!

6:19 am

Yes. Really wacky!

6:20 am

WI 6 is usually paired with the word "dim"

6:20 am

OK need to get going, I'm taking an online course. Thank you so much for help!

6:21 am

3 WI's come from a word that sounds like a color

6:21 am

9:18 am

9:18 am

very well lindy, and yourself?

9:19 am

doing well, thanks. glad to finally get a little rain.

9:21 am

I gtg will be back

9:21 am

some of your rain should be heading my way, we need it too.

9:22 am

It's going to rain for most of next week here

9:24 am

ouch! Bet you need it though?

9:39 am

sure do. Any rain in summer is a blessing

9:40 am

Do you have a lot of flooding issues where you are bichon?

9:41 am

no, we're high ut River. But, other parts of the city can get floodingup from the Connect

9:43 am

*Connecticut river

9:45 am

You must have a nice view from your place

9:46 am

Bonjour everybody

9:46 am

Hi ruby, nice to see you :)

9:49 am

lwas here earlier and found 130 words. Now it's a brick wall

9:50 am

Allthe Europeans are complaining about the heat. Not me, after that grueling winter

9:51 am

uhoh.. maybe the break will give you new eyes fro the fishies :)

9:51 am

It was a very difficult winter, wasn't it? I thought it would never end...

9:51 am

There are frequent storms in the evening or during the night and the garden (except for the Brown and crunchy grass) is gorgeous!

9:52 am

we are expecting different percentages of rain the next 5 days or so. cloudy right now

9:53 am

l planted a dried upand ugly arum bulb abou amonjth ago and it already has a beautiful red-violet and green flower!

9:53 am

If you've had the rain, the grass should bounce back very soon - then you will have a glorious yard to lounge in and look at from the patio :)

9:53 am

my husband just informed me it is sprinkling right now

9:53 am

eider

9:53 am

so sorry

Don't be, I didn't have that:-)

9:54 am

ty aeb and hello:)

9:54 am

Having a "lawn" here was an irrational dreamof my husband. Happily, as long as the roses etc are wateread and the fish are fed, l'm fine

9:55 am

glad you are getting some rain MLF. I love the alums ruby, so glad it rallied and sprouted for you.. make sure to give it some bulb fertilizer after the blooms are gone, so it can gather strength for next tiem :)

9:55 am

Hi aebmusica and Sally :)

9:55 am

l thought it was going to be white but l much prefer this.

Hallo Kate:-)

9:56 am

hello Sally; l haven't seen you in ages

Hi ruby. No, I stopped playing for a while because it was taking over my day, and also it is more difficult on an iPad. However that is improved by using a small bluetooth keyboard.

9:57 am

Sounds like a nice splash of colour to offset all the white ruby

I was summoned back by Kate.

9:58 am

It's nice to see you back again, Sally!

9:58 am

Kate is irresistible!

Lol!

9:59 am

So gald you have returned Sally..and have a way to play using a keyboard. :)

9:59 am

H Haz! :)

9:59 am

Hello, TK.

Thanks. The trouble with the iPad is that the keypad comes up when you type and obscures the grid. This way is much easier.

10:01 am

I've never worked on an iPad.. but not a fan of touch screen things.. and can't seem to function without a mouse ;)

10:01 am

Which laptop is the best? At this point, weak as l am, l'm looking for simple, not too heavy, works with Microsoft

10:01 am

no bells and whistles

I love my iPad! I use the laptop too, but this is easier with my cat called Molly on my lap:-)

10:02 am

You don't need a lappie for much more than playing Babble and e-mail (maybe a little googling) do you ruby?

10:03 am

Is Molly a Babbler too? pam has a kitteh who is writing a novel.. we see excerpts in FB :)

10:03 am

Right, and for trading photos

What about a notebook ruby? Small, Microsoft, light, not too espensive.

10:04 am

Maybe your kitty should have her own accoutn, LOL

10:04 am

I have both a Lenovo notebook and laptop, both fairly simple and have been trouble free.

No, Molly is a furry bottom in the way. She does have her own Facebook page though.

10:04 am

BUT.. keyboard should be a good fit for you size-wise..

10:04 am

l have no idea what a "notebook" computer looks like!

10:05 am

A notebook just looks like a small laptop.

10:05 am

If you go that route, make sure to get full sized keyboard.

10:05 am

Thank you Haz. l think my old desktop was a Lenovo

10:06 am

I've had no bother with them, only downfall of the notebook I have is that battery life isn't great

10:06 am

Isn't Lenovo a Chineese subsidiary of IBM?

10:06 am

Does this mean you have officially given up on your laptop or computer and are looking to replace, rather than try for any more repairs?

10:06 am

It's part of IBM, don't know about the Chinese bit.

10:07 am

Since l have no idea how much time l have left, l am trying to make my life as comfortable as possible

10:09 am

The problem is having too much choice. My eyes tend to glaze over with computer stuff, all the different specs etc. Just show me to the 'I am simple to work and will not cost you a fortune' shelf.

10:09 am

Very glad to see you making plans, planting garden, and investing in communication and fun (with the laptop) optimism is a huge part of a life well-lived :)

10:09 am

l have two laptops -- one Asus and the other Acer. Neither is parti_cularly reliable or comfortable to use

10:11 am

Perhaps you don't need to worry about the "guts" so much, as long as the keyboard and screen are suited to you size-wise. If you need extra memorey for storing pictures etc. you can always get an add-on memorey stick, they are very cheap. You don't need a top shelf bells and whistles speedy gonzales machine?

10:11 am

Since l do most of my playing lying down, it nerds to be relitively stable for typing

10:12 am

I have a Lenovo laptop and so i went and looked it up. Lenovo is listed as a Chinese Mulltinational company with headquarters in North Carolina as well as china

10:12 am

needs*

10:12 am

<--nerd lol

10:12 am

Do you usually use a laptop when plugged in, or on battery? Reliable, long battery life may be one of the issues you need to use to decide.

10:12 am

There you go, Chinese, confirmed by wvteach.

10:12 am

Hi teach :)

10:13 am

Good morning all

10:13 am

What is considered "long battery oife"? l can always plug is at night, just not use it pluggd in

10:13 am

If you use it in bed ruby, you can get a small laptop desk... beanbag with a hard surface where you can place the laptop..again, very inexpensive

10:14 am

How heavy?

10:14 am

Or maybe a laptop with little feet

10:15 am

I thnk they all have small built in feet now, for airflow.

10:15 am

ruby, where would you be buying the laptop?

10:16 am

the beanbag things aren't heavy, but do conform to what it is placed on, so should be good for in bed Babbling

10:16 am

l hwas drawing a mental cartoon of a machine with little feet that would come when called

10:16 am

HA!

10:16 am

we all need one of those ;)

10:17 am

Not many choices here.

10:17 am

You could order from anywhere online,no?

10:17 am

Or a buff teche who'd come when called --no no, just kidding

10:18 am

Maybe Amazon?

10:18 am

ruby, you're making me blush, LOL I would think you should start with the ones available locally, becaue you can see if they're the right size for you (rather than trying to imagine if you like the feel of the keyboard.

10:18 am

I was just wondering if it would be a case of buying online, which is slightly risky unless you've explored all the comfort things that are important, or if you can throw yourself on the mercy of a sympathetic computer shop.

10:19 am

l'm still trying to get the dg to bring coffee, but no luck

Are you poorly ruby? I've missed such a lot in the chog. Just wondered why you babbled in bed.

10:19 am

I'm always throwing myself on the mercy of sympathetic shop people.

10:20 am

Her local computer place has been less than helpful with repairs (that she spent a good deal of money on)

10:21 am

So not so sympathetic in that case.

10:22 am

there may be others in her town, she would have to say. I should bow out of this, because I don't know too much about what's available or shopping online.

10:22 am

My old (1988) cancer is back aggressively attacking my bones. They keepchanging my meds, but the current chemo is in pill form and its only side effect is called hand/foot syndromle and keeps me fromwalking more than a few steps$

10:23 am

nasty but l can live with that, just want to keep living!

So sorry about that. How do you manage your lovely garden?

10:23 am

atta girl ruby!

10:23 am

Can anyone clue the de8 plz? Just cannot see it all.

10:23 am

They give great care here and are very liberal with pain meds

10:25 am

Hi Sandieangel :)

10:25 am

It's like a "put-down" comment if that helps

10:26 am

Can you tell me the 3rd letter plz? I might get it from that.

10:26 am

R

10:27 am

think of what bread dough does and you're half way home.

10:27 am

de8 - sometimes describes an insulting amount of compensation or payment for something.

10:27 am

Thanks.

10:27 am

what Haz said! :)

Ty Haz!

10:28 am

You're welcome.

It's a twisty old grid, that's for sure.

10:28 am

I have lots of help: housekeeper 4 mornings, friend/dog/dinner helper 5 evenings, 15-min massage4 mornings, real gardener, rose guy (gILLES° OF THE BRIGHT YELOOW TEETH), n handyman for "grass" and lightbulbs, and several friends who do whatever they can.

10:29 am

All that's lacking is a computer tech.

10:29 am

Or an honest door to door computer salesman.

10:29 am

and heating LOL

10:30 am

Yes, heating. That's something you must address.

10:30 am

sounds like an oxymoron to me.

10:31 am

is there no alternative to the computer person you have been usi8ng in your town ruby?

10:31 am

l spent the last winter swaddled like a baby in front of the fireplace

10:31 am

hello all

10:31 am

10:33 am

Hello MLF

10:33 am

I saw in earlier chat de 8 is something about an insult or put down? more help pls?

10:33 am

Hi Haz

10:33 am

I'm confused, ruby. Ah, a decent wage.

10:33 am

Is that for the computer person?

10:34 am

a decent wag -- lol, lots of those around here

10:34 am

de8/55 - an adjective used to describe something that is kind of insulting. de, first three letters of 'to get up' finish with last three letters of a fairy 'tale'.

10:35 am

ty haz

10:35 am

You're welcome, MLF.

10:35 am

never heard that word before

10:36 am

Well now you know it you can complain if someone gives you an insultingly low offer of compensation.

10:36 am

Haz, don't get the last part of your clue

10:36 am

'That's de8/55' you can declare.

10:37 am

bichon, another word for a fairy tale is a fairy st?

10:37 am

I finally found a 7 nbs and nbt

Or de plus the start of flavoured water ice.

10:44 am

re 5/16, pls

10:45 am

DE* Moines + conjunction + a buzzy flying insect letter

10:45 am

Ooooh. Having googled Matt and Luke I've got it. Thank you! I was thinking of sponge cake and not the other sort.

10:46 am

there is a RE 6 that matches the DE 6

10:46 am

Hello kittychan :)

10:46 am

hello TraderKate! How are you?

10:46 am

They weren't my cup of tea musically, they just sprang to mind.

10:46 am

ty teach

10:46 am

Well, and you kitty?

10:47 am

Okay, thanks.

So there is teach. Ah well, that's two more words done.

10:48 am

Are you getting rain out your way kitty?

10:48 am

is wrong of me to want to throw something at my roommate for vacuming the stairs?

10:48 am

It depends.

10:48 am

Are you trying to sleep?

10:48 am

well, is it a job you enjoy jmc?

10:48 am

Did you vacuum them earlier?

10:49 am

on what? *gets nerf ball ready*

10:49 am

me??? hell no that is what I have a dust mop for. . . no carpet. . . just wood

10:50 am

lt sounds reasonable to me

10:50 am

Is she using a nozzle or trying to do it like you would a carpet?

10:50 am

de 5/14, first one, pls

10:50 am

Perhaps jsut tell them vacuum isn't needed? Maybe they don't know about dustmops... I do remember you sayign they were not from atround here...

10:50 am

he is using a nossle and it is loud as all get outs

10:50 am

de5/14 - belief in a god.

10:51 am

My housekeeper prefers to iron underpants, and dish towels instead of cleaning the stairs

10:51 am

Still, think of all the dust being sucked away.

10:51 am

good point trader. . . afghani guy . . . I should probably be glad he is overcoming his cultural sexism he came with (only women clean)

10:52 am

okay I will be the better me and put my nerf ball away. . . he is now vacuming the livingroom. . . .

10:52 am

very true, jmc... tehre is a bit of culture clash.. and we may have some cleaning stuf he's never even seen ;)

10:52 am

Crisis averted. No headline 'Prominent babbler held on murder charge'.

10:53 am

ROFL....

10:53 am

We'd bail you out and be character witnesses for you though jmc ;)

10:53 am

"Prominent Quaker babbler . . . " even worse

10:53 am

She hasn't dusted since my husband d***.

10:54 am

<snort>

10:54 am

We'd have to crowdfund for the defence.

10:54 am

It is nice to know you have my back. . .

10:55 am

We have your 6.. and North, East, and West too ;)

10:55 am

Visiting you in jail might be a problem. And do they let you babble in there?

10:55 am

no computers or cell phones . . .

10:56 am

You'd be reduced to making up your own grids.

10:56 am

Now there's a strong deterrant.

10:56 am

I confess I've done it on holiday a few times.

10:56 am

*grumble* he made me pick up some of my client papers. . .

10:56 am

babbled? or murdered someone haz?

10:56 am

Perhaps it's an arcane French mémorial custom

10:57 am

He's probably thinking 'Is it wrong of me to want to kill her for leaving this junk around?'

10:57 am

haha.. anyone that vacuums for me can do what he pleases... (abhors tha hoovering)

10:57 am

chuckle...

10:57 am

Babbled, jmc. Just to keep my brain occupied.

10:57 am

I would rather live with dust. . .

10:58 am

oh when i was in africa for vacay I babbled a ton. . ..

I'm not sure what a vacuum is for. I believe we have one somewhere. Come to think of it, I have used an old one to clean out the hen house which my husband points out is cleaner than the house:-)

10:58 am

but that was long ago. . .

10:59 am

sally you are my kind of housekeeper. . .

10:59 am

I always seem to rent to neatnicks. . .

10:59 am

I have made my dust bunnies into pets ;)

10:59 am

I have an admittedly over-enthusiastic friend who managed to go through 13 hoovers in about 20 years.

11:00 am

No hoover is built that can withstand her keenness to see dust eradicated before it can land on any surface.

11:00 am

It's a disease.

11:00 am

perhaps they are doing extra cleaning because they think you want it that way? You might tell them that you don't mind a bit of clutter or dust, as long as they don't?

Perhaps they are hinting that you are a slut:-))

11:00 am

surely that is obvious when they walk in the door the first time. . .

11:00 am

We actually had a vacuum go missing and no one noticed for 6 months.

11:01 am

Your friend has my synpathies.. not sure aI could be friends with someone that tidy... vacuum murderer!

11:01 am

Now that I think of it this has been true since my first roommate in 1970. . . .and includes my late hubby. . .

11:01 am

Where did it eventually turn up, magmom?

11:01 am

husband had a lovely fosssil collection They'll have to be re-excavated

11:01 am

hahah mag. . .

11:01 am

LOL ruby!

11:02 am

Atta girl magmom... and hello! :)

11:02 am

alright must tottle off to a client's house. . . I just hope she doesn't decide to vacuum.. . .

11:02 am

I'll confess, I actually like cleaning house. Is there a support group?

11:02 am

bye all! *blows kisses all around*

11:02 am

Haz- it didn't! I had let my ex-husband borrow it when he was clearing out a rent house and we just decided he must have forgotten to get it when he left.

11:02 am

See you later, jmc.

Haz, how far away are you? I think I can help.

11:03 am

hi and bye jmc

11:03 am

Bye jmc, happy to see you in the chog yo bring laughter and joy :)

11:04 am

Will you be able to persuade me of the joys of dust-bunnies, Sally?

11:04 am

support groups for people who like cleaning.. hmmmm

11:04 am

hi kate- just popped in for a few. I have some charitable drops to make. We have two ladies who have just escaped abusive partners with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

I not only have dust bunnies, I have whole dust warrens!

11:05 am

I would enjoy getting rid of them ...

11:06 am

de 5/14, first one, pls

11:06 am

You will have your work cut out getting the ladies settled, happy to see you carved out a few minutes for Babble, mag :)

11:06 am

Atvleast they bdon't need to be fed

11:06 am

de5/14 - belief system in a god.

11:06 am

I find that if the dust bunnies multiply too quickly *( as they are wont to do), you simply cull the herd once in a while and scoop up the strays ;)

11:08 am

ty Haz

11:08 am

But you don't get to the stage of those hoarder people. I watch some of those programmes with amazement.

11:08 am

You're welcome, bichon.

11:08 am

Im popping back out to do my drops and go to Aldi. bbl

11:09 am

Bye, magmom.

11:09 am

Bye mag, Have a productive time!

I know a hoarder! My sister actually. I'm safe, she doesn't babble. It's a disease and very difficult for me to visit.

11:10 am

Fortunately, the house is big enough to hide my hioarding.

11:11 am

I can imagine, Sally. It just doesn't make sense to most people but they seem to be trapped by 'stuff'.

11:12 am

I feel sorry for them and cross at the same time, because they know it's making their life more difficult and yet can't let go.

It was difficult to explain to her when her husband di4 that we had to clear the house for people to come back.

11:12 am

Has she always been a hoarder or did something set it off?

I have tried to tactfully suggest professional help.

11:13 am

And how did the suggestion go down?

She's always been the same, so was her husband, and it has now got worse and worse. She won't let anyone in the house because of the "mess". I just say firmly, I'm your sister, don't be silly, and visit. Luckily she's 200 miles away.

11:14 am

Poor lady. You're very good to keep seeing her. But the decision to change can only come from her.

She sort of agreed with the suggestion, but I know won't do anything about it. That's the problem, isn't it. And it isn't my house or my business, i just feel for her because it makes her unhappy.

11:15 am

I know. And even the professionals sometimes have a hard time getting through. But it's lovely to see some of the transformations that can take place.

She was once playing patience in bed and the light bulb went, so she carried on playing by torch. I suspect the light bulb still hasn't been replaced.

11:17 am

Goodness. I would run out of patience (pardon the pun) very quickly.

Lol

11:17 am

de6/27.....clue please

11:17 am

opposite of what a sponge does ?

11:18 am

de6/27 - de plus the latter part of what a sponge does to water.

11:23 am

se5 - a passover plate

11:24 am

SE 5/12 is a Jwish religios meal

11:24 am

11:25 am

ty Kate, thought I had tried that. [am Jewish]

11:25 am

I have several word that needed to be "refished"... *sigh*

11:26 am

My dust is free range...i give the bunnies run of the house ;)

11:28 am

lt's been fun, ladies, but my monsters need to be fed

11:28 am

Hope they don't eat you out of house and home!

11:29 am

Hug the pups and give them an ear scraich for me ruby, ty for stopping by :)

11:30 am

I'm going to head off as well. Thanks for the company!

47 to go. Think I'll give my brain a rest and come back later. I'm out of practice!

11:53 am

Saw your adorable gnome tripletss on FB yesterday.. <3

11:53 am

ty -- new word for me too -- whatever happened to the one ending in 'ive' --- not fancy enough any more?

11:54 am

But for a V nan... robably not a word seen often in the grids.

11:55 am

sort of like utilize -- which still sticks in my craw as laughable

11:55 am

:)

11:56 am

maybe we could blame norm crosby for creating both

11:57 am

Kate - There are lots of se4 of the gnome triplets on there. I'll do an album soon. Just sold two lots today.

11:58 am

and what about Miss Mouse.. any lluck finding a home for her?

11:58 am

I needn't have censored 'sets' because that form of the word isn't in the grid today. lol

11:58 am

I have seen many of your meece and gnome se4/4

11:59 am

Yes, a local man bought Cherry Mouse yesterday and paid £5 more than I was asking for her.

11:59 am

The two sets of gnomes sold are going to an old neighbour who now lives in Cyprus.

11:59 am

12:01 pm

Are they crocheted gnomes?

12:02 pm

No, Bea, knitted.

12:02 pm

Well, I say knitted, I do use crochet and embroidery in the process, too.

12:03 pm

I've been doing amirugumi. It's fun.

12:03 pm

Yes, Bea, there are a lot of those about. I haven't had a go at any yet.

12:05 pm

You can get some lovely free patterns on Pinterest - crochet and knitting.

12:06 pm

I also like Ravelry.

12:06 pm

Hi jaxx :)

12:06 pm

Yes, I've downloaded quite a few. Ravelry is good, too. There are loads of sites. I also make my own patterns up.

12:07 pm

Hi jaxx. Seems we're all crafters as well as Babblers. :)

12:08 pm

I have had to stop crochet and knitting since my hands are arthritic. I am left with literally piles of yarn of assorted colours and plies.

12:09 pm

Hi, TraderKate. Yiu into handicrafts?

12:09 pm

you even

12:09 pm

why does the list take a di word and when I enter it in the grid, it says, "you've already entered didy but it does not appear in the list?

thanks uneaixoise, it worked

12:13 pm

I used to do a lot of needlework.. embroidery, crewel, counted cross stitch...

12:13 pm

never was much of a knitter or crocheter (can do the basices)

12:14 pm

HI Une, Button, and ronon :)

12:14 pm

arigumi are mostly small. All you really need are the basics.

12:14 pm

jaxx - I inherited 2 massive bags of yarn from a lady who found herself in the same position as you re her hands. She was pleased it was going to a good home. :)

12:16 pm

My yarn is more like a woolshop's stock. I have sent some to local schools but they don't teach knitting now.

12:17 pm

Can't you find another crafter local to you who knits for a charity?

12:18 pm

I know that when my daughter comes to clear the house after I die she'll throw most of it away

12:18 pm

have to go an make a potato salad for a community dinner - bbl

12:18 pm

Jacula, that is a good idea.

12:18 pm

Bye nan.

12:19 pm

Bye, Nan. save some for me

12:19 pm

Hello, all :-)

12:19 pm

Hi, Une

12:20 pm

Hi une.

12:20 pm

Bye nan :)

12:20 pm

Just passing thru.....hope you're all doing well

12:20 pm

So... have you been enjoying the tennis Une?

12:21 pm

Watched Wimbledon until Rafa lost

12:22 pm

:( Condolences Une...

12:22 pm

TX :-)

12:22 pm

I watched the final but I find it hard to watch Djokovic as I don't like the man. I think he's a cheat.

12:23 pm

Not a big Novak fan

12:23 pm

There was a lot of chat about the Williams game from other Babblers

12:23 pm

Gotta run....bbl

12:24 pm

Bye Une :)

12:24 pm

I watched his antics when he played Andy Murray and the commentator said it was gamesmanship. I call it cheating.

12:25 pm

Afraid I don't follow it at all jaxx. :( Is he sort of another John McEnroe?

12:29 pm

Not as straightforward as John. he was my era. he was a bad boy but Novak cheats. he calls for the coach and then sends him away so he upsets the person he's playing. he blames his shoes and keeps needing to change them, again interrupting the flow of the game. Even in the Final this year when he missed a shot he battered his shoes with his racquet.

12:29 pm

Good thing Unea left, as she's a Rafa fan, I'm a Federer fan. Oil & water, one or the other, can't like both.

12:30 pm

Oh dear... poor sportsmanship. How does he get away with it if it is repeated behaviour?

12:30 pm

H HK, then you can chat jaxx about tennis ;)

12:30 pm

heya jaxx! McEnroe of my era too, remember who the real bad boy was? Nasty Nastasie.

12:30 pm

I have a friend who idolises Nadal and won't watch any other player. Seems daft to me as there are other very good players out there.

12:31 pm

Hi TK, jaxx

12:31 pm

LOL TK

12:31 pm

He got thrown out of one match last year because of a foul mouthed outburst so he's older but no wiser.

12:32 pm

Rafa is total OCD, I must bounce the ball 8 times before I serve, exactly 8, he's got a whole routine he

12:32 pm

s just got to follow. Hate where the 'enter' key is on this board.

12:32 pm

jaxx....going way back in the chat.....retirement homes, assisted living places and skilled nursing homes would ove to have some of your yarn and needs. I know this because I was in a rehab facility connected to these and I would have died and gone to Heaven to have some yarn and needles to knit and crochet with.

12:33 pm

hiya aeb! Long time since I've typed those letters :)

12:33 pm

If you watch when a point is played, he walks 6 steps along the baseline and then 4 to collect his towel. If he's serving he goes throughthe nose and ear touching and then pulls at his shorts.

12:34 pm

FIREWORKS! *~*~*~* Time for dinner now. Happy Babbling all. xx

12:34 pm

YAY for Jacs !!!!!

12:34 pm

Hi, Aeb, that's another good idea. I am glad I came

12:35 pm

Yes! The ear, nose, shirt touching thing!

12:35 pm

Definitely OCD but a fabulous tennis player.

12:36 pm

jaxx - I read a book recently, 'Federer & Me' written by a Brit, self-described Federer fanatic. I learned so much, so interesting. An easy read.

12:36 pm

Could I get a clue for the 8 please?

12:37 pm

No doubt fabulous, all t hat practice, all those muscles & he is usually totally focused, like a machine, which is the exact opposite, who approached the game like an artist, not as a machine.

12:37 pm

hi helen and all!

12:38 pm

Hi worzel :)

12:39 pm

Hi Kate x

12:40 pm

The DE 8 is a put-down kind of comment..or possibly a ridiculously low offer for merchandise or services... adj form.

12:40 pm

Yay thanks Kate! NBT NBS!!!

12:40 pm

WOOOOT!!!!

12:41 pm

Right, off to finish cooking my tea now see you all soon xx

12:41 pm

I am a real book fanatic. I get through 3 or 4 a week. I will make a note and see if I can get hold of a copy

12:42 pm

Mr Gummidge - long time no 'speak'

12:43 pm

I stumbled upon "It Can't Happen Here, Sinclair Lewis, 1935 yesterday.. I will be trying to hunt the book down soon.

12:43 pm

jaxx - I believe you'll enjoy it. Sorry was called away.

12:44 pm

Bye worzel, enjoy your tea :)

12:44 pm

Thanks, Helen

12:46 pm

Kate, try awesome books or Abe books, both have good collections of older books. Abe is probably the best for that. athey have vintage posters and whathaveyou plus lots of bargain books.

12:46 pm

Off for my evening meal now. thanks all for a very useful chat.

12:48 pm

Bye jaxx :) I see Crossy posted a free online copy to my wall in FB. I reposted it in order to "save" it.

12:50 pm

bye jaxx

12:57 pm

Hoping for a nice big friendly grid tomorrow if it rains ;)

12:57 pm

Hoping for a nice big friendly grid tomorrow if it rains ;)

1:07 pm

Helen, i enjoy watching other players as well....Federer, Monfils, Zverev, Del Potro, etc.

1:08 pm

It's just that Rafa's my no. 1 guy

1:08 pm

And i enjoy his quirks :-)

LOL Unea! Federer is my #1, I totally didn't like him at first, but he so grew on me.

1:09 pm

Just clarifying.....byeee :-)

Yes, watching rafa's quirks is like watching a whole different TV show besides the match.

1:10 pm

Federer is a true class act

byeeee

He hasn't always been and admits to it. That's what's so great about him. Like the time he showed up to a final in all white, with gold piping, his 'monogram' . . .

1:16 pm

Oh yeah, that was bad LOL

1:16 pm

otid

LOL - I was appalled & was not in the 'Fed Zone' at that point. Ghastly.

jaxx - that was not helpful, please add a helpful word to the chog ;)

1:17 pm

Hello again. Re Federer and Nadal, there was a terrific BBC programme broadcast recently 'Strokes of Genius' which recounted the background etc of the 2008 Wimbledon final.

1:17 pm

Good evening, afternoon, morning, night (delete as appropriate). Just back from a lovely Baptism ceremony. My daughter was Godmother, which makes me a Grand Godmother!

1:18 pm

hi soodle, haz. hi all

1:18 pm

But class act as dad, husband, philanthropist, friend

1:18 pm

If you get a chance, do watch it, I learned a lot about both players.

heya soodle, Haz, peri!

1:18 pm

Hey Peri

I will look for that - it was an awesome match, that's the one that Rafa won, yes?

1:18 pm

Saw it.... excellent!

1:18 pm

I didn't know that Nadal is naturally right-handed but plays left handed to be more awkward for opponents.

1:19 pm

Ah good, Une, I thought it was great.

1:19 pm

I lilked that they allowed Nadal to speak in Spanish because he can communicate so much better in his first language.

1:19 pm

And Federer's trainer/coach, spoke the most beautiful French.

1:20 pm

Yes, HK, Nadal won it. I watched the whole thing and by the end, although I am a Federer fan, felt that it was okay for anybody to win because it was just so special to watch.

1:20 pm

Hi Soodles!!!! <3 :)

1:21 pm

I agree haz.....just incredible....i saw it too

1:21 pm

Sorry - Not tennis related, but Haz, what a super profile pic, and very bittersweet text. Condolences on the loss of your friend.

1:21 pm

Thank you, Soodle.

1:21 pm

yes Haz, lovely picture. so sorry about the loss of our friend

Haz - yes, about the handedness, forced on him by his uncle/coach since he was little. It's talked about in the 'Federer & Me' book. So kinda abusive background.

1:22 pm

Hey Kate, Peri et al :-)

1:22 pm

stuck with 59 left

1:22 pm

hello again everyone

1:22 pm

Thank you, she was a special lady and I felt I got to know her really well on that trip. She remained positivie right to the end.

1:23 pm

1:27 pm

de 8 - a strange word meaning put down in a critical manner (adjective)

1:29 pm

DE 8/55 like a "put-down" comment, or a ridiculously low amount of $ offered for services or merchandise.. adj form

1:29 pm

1:36 pm

Well, if I was outside I would be but am in today and there is a storm coming, can hear the thunder now. Most days are tolerable because the rains come an cool us off.

1:37 pm

*and

1:38 pm

Love a good summer storm... of course, we don't get them like you do down in FLA...

1:38 pm

people who have lived in Florida learn to adapt to the hot weather and know what time of day to venture out.

1:39 pm

well, I do live in the tropics so we do need our rain.

1:45 pm

Hello babblers!

1:48 pm

my favourite kind of lemon is here, but can't find that me 5/14

1:50 pm

looks italianish

1:50 pm

1:50 pm

more in the summer but now in spite of hearing thunder, the sun is shining bright so storm will hit around me today most likely. Have seen many many times when it is raining like crazy just across the street but dry where I am. It is the only state I know where it rains and the sun shines at the same time. Many rainbows both single and multiple.

1:51 pm

*!*~*!* hagd everyone

1:52 pm

Where in Florida are you Nancy?

1:54 pm

I live in Palm Bay which is adjacent to Melbourne. Melbourne is the sister city and was named after Melbourne, Australia. Palm Bay is much bigger around 75 square miles. I am on the ocean side and about 40 miles south of where the rockets are launched at the Cape.

1:55 pm

Nice. The last shuttle launch I was able to see, had no idea it would be visible!, from Key West. It was exciting.

1:56 pm

Can always just step out my door to see any launch. Was on the beach which is near my house and watched John Glenns last trip to space. It is always cool to watch and never gets old but the night time shots are magnificent.

1:56 pm

Congratulations nan!!!

1:57 pm

NRKII !!!!! HELLO <3

1:58 pm

Kate, how are you?

1:58 pm

Very well, nrkii, how are you doing? So lover-lu to see you pop in! :)

1:59 pm

Doing okay here. Hanging out at my mom's for the weekend, being lazy.

2:00 pm

Sounds like the perfect plan for a lazy summer weekend nrkii, how is you mom doing?

2:01 pm

she's good... losing her hearing, but not ready to spend the money on a hearing aid, so it's getting a little tougher to communicate

2:02 pm

Is there any chance that those little hearing boosters (that you put in your pocket) advertised on tv wuld be of some use?

2:02 pm

not sure

2:03 pm

Proper hearing aids run 3- 5000, is that right?

2:03 pm

yes

2:04 pm

My grandfather got one, then never liked to wer the darn thing... it did make things difficult... especially with certain voice registers. Some he could hear easier than others

2:04 pm

that's a ton of money :(

2:05 pm

If yu have lots of siblings, perhaps you could all get together and make it a birthday or christmas gift???

2:05 pm

ugh, no... my mom would hate that :)

2:06 pm

any hope of a surgical fix? I have no idea about things like that...

2:06 pm

course, that would be even more money... :(

2:09 pm

So.... have you got a good book on the go?

2:10 pm

I'm rereading the Wrinkle in Time series. Just saw the movie, and it reminded me how much I loved those books.

2:10 pm

you?

2:12 pm

I still have The Other Boleyn Girl on the go, have really dropped off in my reading.

2:14 pm

I read that a while back. Sometimes my reading falls off because I'm just not captivated by the book I'm reading, and I have trouble admitting it.

2:14 pm

Have seen many comment by other Babblers about the series you are reading. I will have to add it to the TBR list. I have jsut bumped a Sinclair Lewis to the top of the list now.

2:14 pm

Oh, if you haven't read A Wrinkle in Time, it is SO worth it.

2:17 pm

Sure sounds like it. I haven't seen the movie either, so it would be completely new to me :)

2:18 pm

Some sort of fantasy? A la Narnia maybe?

2:19 pm

Has anyone else here read Wrinkle in Time?

2:20 pm

Yeah, that's the closest way to describe it.

2:24 pm

Will keep it up near the top of my list...

2:24 pm

has the grid been kind to you today?

2:27 pm

nrkii!!! TK!!!

2:28 pm

How are y'all??

2:30 pm

hi there!

2:31 pm

Hi! This is a nice grid. Not too many weird words, lots of word families...

2:32 pm

Even an abominable snowman!

2:32 pm

Or two...

2:33 pm

Ho there jai!!!! :)

2:34 pm

Hi!!!!

2:34 pm

I finished this grid, so I am shamefully just here to hang out.

2:35 pm

Greetings, all.

2:35 pm

You're perky today jai... been into the sauce? LOL, jk ;)

2:35 pm

No sauce for 37+ years. Not a drop.

2:35 pm

hanging out is good too. I'm having a sammy then will take off for a while to do other stuff...

2:36 pm

Udi came back!!!! Hi there ma'am :)

2:36 pm

A sandwich sounds good. I will have to enlist my husband to make me one- he makes excellent ones.

2:36 pm

um... Judi, that is

2:37 pm

Hiya, Judi!

2:37 pm

food made by others almost always tastes better!

Sorry, got called away. Scrolled through chat trolling for clues, no luck. TK, nrkii is SO right about Wrinkle - put that at the top of your list, knock it off by mid-afternoon. Great book.

heya jai, Judy :)

2:39 pm

Truly true, TK. Yes, Wrinkle is good.

2:39 pm

Need clues??

What did you think of the movie? (*prepares self for respone*)

even *response*

2:40 pm

I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did

2:40 pm

the second and third de - could you point me in the right direction?

2:40 pm

Have not seen it- I will wait for it on Amazon.

2:40 pm

There are follow up books to A Wrinkle in time that are also very much worth reading. "A Wind in the Door" and "A Swiftly Tilting Planet".

LOL - that was my reaction as well, I was completely prepared to hate it.

2:40 pm

there was stuff left out or changed that I could have nitpicked (mostly having to do with how it didn't set the stage well enough for sequels), but I liked it

2:41 pm

Godly words...both de's.

jai - then we won't spoil the end for you :)

2:41 pm

thanks

2:42 pm

np

nrkii - the thing about the book is that it allows the reader (as in any book) to imagine the characters, landscape, etc. But Wrinkle excels in that area as in that it quiet nondescript, so imagination is well stimulated.

2:42 pm

It's been a while since I read the book. I hope the movie is good. Sounds like you all endorse it.

missed adding the word 'is' - it 'is' quite nondescript

2:43 pm

2nd and 3rd DE.. to do with GOD, belief and person who believes kitty

2:44 pm

oops, jai already answered... sorry 'bout that

2:44 pm

TK, I beat you to it.

The movie adds color to a black & white book, all the major points are covered, but likely not in the way you imagined them, nonetheless well done.

2:45 pm

I loved the book Ready )Player One- the movie is all right, but really did not follow the book.

2:45 pm

I listened to RP1 on Audible- Wil Weaton narrates it very well.

2:46 pm

aYou are all making me wish I had a copy at home to start right now.. and the video to watch after the book is finished :)

2:47 pm

I am trying ( emphasis on trying) to pitch a movie to Imagine Ent.- sci fi. It's pretty hard.

2:48 pm

How on earth do you go about something like that jai?

2:48 pm

Is there some sort of pipeline?

2:49 pm

Oooh. Best of luck, jai!

2:49 pm

Through Imbd (or is it IMDB?). It's a workshop thing.

jai - I felt the same way about 'Ready Player One' - it an outstanding book. Can only be truly appreciated by someone who lived through those times, as there are so many priceless tiny references to the culture of the time.

2:51 pm

When is the book set?

2:52 pm

I have had this idea for years, but up until recently, it would not have been possible. Now, with CGI, it can be done. I told a friend about it years ago, and she liked it, so now I am doing a screenplay. It's going to be a sci fi family thing that takes place in our solar system.

2:53 pm

I am picturing gorgeous views of our outer planets. I love sci fi- I have been a Trekkie since forever.

2:54 pm

Neato jai.... keep us abreast for sure! CGI has come so far in a few short years.

2:54 pm

It's set in the future. Dad is a Mailman with a route that includes Mars, Jupiter, etc. He gets kidnapped, and his family steals a ship and goes out there to rescue him,... Silly?/I hope not too.

2:55 pm

Eek. Don't give too much away, Jai! Protect your plot at all costs.

2:55 pm

Actually, the Dad is a secret agent, and he gets kidnapped by guys who wants the secret plans he is transporting...

2:56 pm

I can see Gary Oldman being the bad guy- a la Fifth Element...

2:57 pm

But anyway, I might be dreaming, but I reaslly believe in this. We'll see. Stay tuned!

That's awesome jai - great plot! Please do go on . . .

2:58 pm

Nope. That's all I am telling. If and when I finish the screenplay, maybe you might get a copy to proof and read......

I excel at proofreading - pick me, pick me, pick me.

I once got a job because I used that line in my application - pick me, pick me, pick me. LOL - they loved it :)

2:59 pm

hi all

2:59 pm

I wish I could type... It might help if I could see better. They are fixing my right cataract Monday.

3:00 pm

Okay, I will remeber that!

Tough thing, cataracts. Good luck with op, my mom had them, had surgery, the world was a different place for her after that.

gotta run - bye jai, Judi, TK, all *poof*

3:02 pm

Bye! I have to poof, myself! *Poof*!!

3:05 pm

5:30 pm

Hey, MRP!

Hi lynx! Long time hunny!

I have not chatted for about 2 years, and it's not that I can't TALK ! ;-)

Hi Pam! *hugs*

Same Diane! So nice to see all the crew here lately!

I’m just about to caffeinate! Latte, anyone? ;)

However, I've watched the chat from time to time.....I do know and remember everyone, know their personalities and have continually kept in touch with many on Facebook !

5:33 pm

too soon for another - but thanks

....almost time to make supper here, but enjoy your morning Latte !!

Yes! Facebook has been a blessing for many of us!

Ok, back soon!

5:35 pm

This was an old fashioned tough grid - but done. See you all later - bye

5:35 pm

Hi, Diane! I'm known as an old-timer--been on Babble since October of 2004, and I lurk a lot. I am also known for wandering, mid-chat. :) . I, too am on Facebook and chat with MRP and others regularly. I am glad to be talking in chog more now--seemed to be a good time to do so,

5:35 pm

Bye, Lyn!

5:36 pm

Anyway, Diane, I am really glad to see so many chat arcs and people having them!

If you are the Pam I think you are, we have 14 friends in common. :-)

5:44 pm

Hi pam, lynxx, lil*, diane, and mrp!!!! :)

Hi, Kate !

5:46 pm

Congratulations lynn!!! (and bye?)

5:47 pm

Hi diane :)

5:48 pm

How goes the grid everyone?

5:50 pm

We probably do, Diane!

Well, the first 120 went quickly.....now the deep searching begins, but first, it's time to make supper. I will hopefully be back to finish! Enjoy, everyone.

5:58 pm

Hi kids.

6:01 pm

Hi Scrabbler :)

6:01 pm

Bye diane :)

6:01 pm

Howdy Kate.

6:01 pm

So pleased to see so very many of the old timers here... and the ones that have been lurking for years are popping in to chat as well! <3

6:02 pm

Yes! It is great to see everyone here.

6:02 pm

<waves to Scrabs and the bunnies :) >

6:02 pm

Were you out and about today in the nice weather?

6:03 pm

I gave the bunnies their evening salads so they are happy. Then I pulled weeds. Now I am relaxing and recovering from a migraine which I woke with.

6:03 pm

Farmer's market. I sold $120 of art today, my best day EVER!

6:04 pm

Oh no.... it must be the season, everyone seems to be getting migraines these ddays. I hope it isn't too bad and goes quickly. Do you have to take anythign for it?

6:05 pm

Naproxen + sumatriptan + caffeine. I am just really tired so I did not bike or hike.

6:05 pm

That is great news! It's really taking off for you.., you must be quite puffed up now...as you should Ms. artiste!

6:06 pm

There were new visitors that made purchases. I was so excited. I have a $50 bill! Yippee!

6:07 pm

I have to work in the office next Saturday so I will miss the market, but I have to make a lot of new items in the next 2 weeks.

6:07 pm

Nicely done, scrabs! The weather is wreaking havoc with my head--'tis the season for me...

6:08 pm

I haven’t had a migraine since my divorce

6:08 pm

Oh, Pam, you get it. I hate losing hours, or even days to migraines.

6:08 pm

Did all your outdoor activities yesterday (and maybe dehydration) contribute to the migraine? Congratulations on your sales record ... you are well and truly on your way!

6:09 pm

I drank a lot of water yesterday and in the evening. Storms are on the way as we will have several days of rain beginning overnight.

6:09 pm

Haha, hi ruru , hello :) rehi pam :) sorry your head is also bothering you.

6:09 pm

Silly Ruru. How are Dylan and Chelsea?

6:10 pm

6:44 pm

I got _Cork Dork_ at one of the little libraries in my neighborhood--people leave and take books I love them.

6:46 pm

I love those Little Free Libraries.

6:46 pm

I do, too, scrabs.

8:47 pm

hi trif

8:48 pm

hello jen

8:49 pm

How are you doing with the grid?

8:49 pm

nbt, but not nbs…..100 left. just got home from a fun, but long day, and only getting to the grid now. how are you doing?

8:50 pm

I have 113 left, been pretty tired today.

8:51 pm

is it quite hot where you are?

8:51 pm

It is hot, but, not as it has been earlier in the week.

8:52 pm

good sleeping weather, as my mother used to say....we are due for a day of rain tomorrow, and I am glad, for a couple of reasons -- the plants need it, the streams need it, and I need a day off from yard work

8:56 pm

regarding the m in the top right corner - I have the me5.12 - what am I missing please?

8:56 pm

me5.14

8:57 pm

hmmmm. thank you...looking

9:01 pm

9:02 pm

9:02 pm

I am trying to find the de.8

9:04 pm

I don't have it yet, but will join in the hunt

9:09 pm

found it

9:20 pm

well done! I am too tired.....good ngith

9:20 pm

night

9:20 pm

night

9:27 pm

** finito ** last word BO 7/60 - nominate it as weird word of the day

9:28 pm

Yay, teach!

9:36 pm

Bo7/60 (plural of bo6/42) isn't weird at all. It's the name given to a craftsman who makes an archery weapon. It's still a surname in today's society.

9:38 pm

Fletcher is another surname associated with making things for archers.

de 8 pls?

9:48 pm

Hi Jac - Jac is going to be master (er, servant) when I come back as one of her cats.

hi all, popping in to say good night. good night all.

good nigh, sweet gwen.

9:52 pm

de 8 - sounds like a milk product + woefulness. Something the lactose intolerant experience :

excess gas? cramps? diarhhea?

9:56 pm

Definitely not happy about eating

9:57 pm

In your dreams re the servant part, origami! *lols*

ty

9:59 pm

You will do my bidding :D

9:59 pm

de8/55 - easy clue as we're nearly out of time... de + first three letters of what you hope yeast causes your bread dough to do + the last 3 letters of a fictional tale.

9:59 pm

Sorry for the bad clue!

10:00 pm

I will NOT, origami! We will come to a compromise, so long as you don't scratch or bite me. (For other Babblers, this is a continuation of a cat convo we were having on FB.)

10:02 pm

As in about cats, not being catty to each other. Yesterday was my Terrible Trio's 4th birthday.

10:03 pm

OK, I'll be good

10:05 pm

Glad to hear it, origami!

10:06 pm

My last word found on this grid was an archaic word meaning 'certainly', yw4/10.

10:08 pm

However, that was just over 14 hours ago, so I can clue if anyone needs any last minute help. (Last time I said that in the wee, small hours there was deafening silence. lol)

10:09 pm

Thanks Jac. Has to be Welch. My paternal grandmother was from Wales and all of her children had far too many L's, W's and Y's in their names :D

10:10 pm

I'd like to state again how lovely it is to see so many old faces back in here chatting again. It's becoming a pleasure to look at the chog once more.

10:11 pm

It's actually from Middle English derived from German and Dutch, origami.

10:13 pm

I have some Welsh roots, too, Origami, but having learned Welsh and most especially the Welsh alphabet, it helps. Having said that, I get so few opportunities to speak Cwmraig now that I'm forgetting more than I learned. :(

10:14 pm

My father's name was Llwyd. Definitely not popular in the US. But, he would have been 101 now.

10:15 pm

I've seen cwtch (hug or cuddle) on Babble but don't think 'hiraeth' has been a grid word yet.

10:16 pm

How old was your dad when he di4/6, origami? My dad went long before I feel he should have done and I still miss him.

10:19 pm

I was a late in life baby for both of my parents. He was 50 when he died. Much too young. A truly wonderful salt-of-the-Earth type man. I was 9. I miss him a lot.

10:21 pm

My mom would have been 103 this year. Hard to imagine.

10:23 pm

How about your dad, Jac?

10:24 pm

Daughters and Dads, eh? Usually a lovely combination. So awful for you to lose your Dad so young, origami. I was lucky enough to ave my Dad for quite a while longer before dementia took him from me and his death about a decade later. But he's not gone... Sometimes, when I'm looking for a particular tool to do some job or other or wondering how to do something... I seem to be drawn to the place where the tool is or drawn to the DIY book with the instructions on how to do the job, or I just have a flashback to Dad doing the job and see how to do it. When he took early retirement, Dad asked me to give him a list of jobs to do and he went through them so fast that I could hardly keep up with him. He'd already whipped through all the jobs Mom needed doing and was looking for more... and so she sent him to me. lol

10:28 pm

I was lucky that my Dad lived and remained compos mentis enough to see both of his grandchildren and have a hand in bringing them up. He died almost 15 years ago. My kids are both in their early 30s now and so had time with him. Mum's still going strong though. She's 82 now!

10:29 pm

Sorry, Jac. I didn't have him around long enough to teach me a lot of things - but I could fly fish like a grown man by the time I was six, make fishing flies, and whittle. And he gave me his sense of humor :D

10:30 pm

Sense of humour is one of the most important things, origami. And fishing just makes it better.xx

10:32 pm

I remember going fishing with my dad. He take me along as 'a little aside' when he was fishing in competitions. Sometimes I caught more than he did! He didn't know whether to laugh or cry. :)

10:33 pm

Finally below 85F - time to go exercise the canine buddies. Back in a while.

10:33 pm

But he never cheated and whacked the stuff from my keepnet into his.

10:33 pm

Enjoy the walk, origami.x

10:34 pm

Yes, fishing - major bonding time with my pop. I remember when I was really young and he just used to roll his eyes when I splashed in the water and scared the trout away.

10:35 pm

I was taught how to flyfish and how to make flies and lures. Yes, fishing with our Dad, whether you be male or female, is a great bonding experience.

10:35 pm

*your dad, I meant. We don't have the same dad.

10:42 pm

I once remember being given a (hastily made, I know that now) medal for 'winning' the tournament, as I caught more fish than all the men. I was probably about 7 then.

10:44 pm

Being an only child and an avid reader, though I did enjoy having noisy fun with cousins and friends, I wasn't a bad bet to take along to a fishing contest. I wasn't a noisy child, and I'm still not noisy now in my 60s, though I do love most forms of noisy rock music.

10:46 pm

What I do hate these days, especially since cordless earphones are available, is other people inflicting their music on me.

10:47 pm

Talking to myself here. That's the title of an old song. lol

10:52 pm

I'm back - they didn't want much. I dig the noisy rock also :D

10:52 pm

Probably time I tried for more sleep now as the local gull population (the first of the birds in the morning) have just coughed a morning chorus.

10:53 pm

Hi again, origami. Do your like Norse rock? Incidentally, 'Norse' isn't a grid word, though I think it should be, proper noun or not. ;)

10:54 pm

Don't know Norse rock. Will have to check it out. Sleep tight, Jac.

10:55 pm

Hardcore stuff, origami. Enjoy your exploration.xx

11:27 pm

It's late for this, but what the hell: The Official Phantom of the Day is SOBRIETY

11:28 pm

back for my last 15

11:28 pm

not an appropriate word for a saturday night - lol

11:28 pm

Oh, SOBRIETY is definitely a phantom in more ways than one

11:29 pm

(as I sit here sipping a basil gimlet) - Yes indeed

11:29 pm

Sober on a Saturday night? That's crazy. lol

11:30 pm

last de6?

11:30 pm

No, I havn't gone to sleep yet as OH was spreadeagled across the king-sized bed when I tried to get into it.

11:31 pm

when pete does that, I push him over

11:32 pm

kje - de6/27 - the opposite of the re (ab) word that describes liquid being soaked up.

11:32 pm

I haven't listed, but possibly it's the opposite of what a sponge does with liquid?

11:32 pm

hi all. clue for the 8 before it flips? ty

11:33 pm

de8. de + most of what bread dough does + either/** + sometimes vowel

11:33 pm

kje - I normally just have to tell P to 'Get over on your own side!' but it depends how much red wine he's had on a Friday night as to how deep he's sleeping to immediately obey my command.

11:33 pm

De + most of what bread should do before you bake it + tell me a sto**

11:33 pm

de8/55 - expressing contempt or mocking

11:33 pm

desorb

11:34 pm

ah crap - sorry, just saw jac's clue

11:34 pm

ty jacula!

11:34 pm

I see you got it, kje! roflol.

11:34 pm

Now change the first letter to soak it to again, kje!

11:35 pm

fantastic clues. got it. ty ty ty

11:36 pm

FW!

11:37 pm

W0000T!

11:37 pm

I am used to having to take back my territory... and the blankets... so he knows to expect war if he invades any territory ; )

11:39 pm

but - it is the advantage of going to bed first - you get first claim!

11:39 pm

Now, do I go back up to bed and command the sleeping man to 'get off my side!' or do I wait for the flip. by which time he will probably be up and having his first coffee, so I can totally re-make the entire bed before getting into it to sleep?

11:41 pm

kje - given that other half is a trucker, and often has to be up at 3 or 4am., I don't stand a chance of going to bed before he does.

11:42 pm

Hope I don't have to flip my pillow over onto 'the wrong side' because he's been sleeping on it and sweating on it!

11:44 pm

Don't get me wrong, i'd miss him like hell if he wasn't here doing annoying things at the weekend. But surely I'm allowed a private grouse or two? :)

11:45 pm

I think that's part of the definition of love, right there

11:46 pm

Yes, it is, Sam.x

11:46 pm

I have 28 left and I could probably get them if I'd go to a real computer instead of my phone, but naaaah

11:48 pm

Hello. Great conversation! Samantha, I will help you crash them in before the *flip*!

11:49 pm

Hi, Jac, Hi everyone!

11:49 pm

Sam - I don't have one of those phones, nor a tablet. I do have a laptop, but only use that when on holiday. Most of the time, I stick to using my PC.

11:49 pm

Hi jai.

11:49 pm

Hey, Jacula, tell me about your "name".

11:51 pm

I'm not really even trying anymore. I haven't glanced at the list, so I don't know which ones I'm missing. But thank you for the thought!

11:51 pm

I always wonder about how people choose their handles...

11:51 pm

Jai - you mean 'Jacula'? It was a name given to me over 20 years ago by a Canadian friend who noticed I am a night owl. It came from my real name, Jackie.

11:52 pm

YW! I have had nights where others helped me finish. Ah! I like it! I would be Jaicula, I suppose?

11:52 pm

"My name is... Jacula. I do not drink... Wine."

11:52 pm

"My name is... Jacula. I do not drink... Wine."

11:52 pm

I like it!

11:52 pm

Being a night owl, also

11:52 pm

I guess so, jai.

11:53 pm

Ooooops, now I'm down to 27. LOL

11:53 pm

Haha! Waiting for flip... I have to hope it is short... The big grid the other day took me 6 hours

11:54 pm

What's that supposed to mean, Samantha? I do drink wine, but I drink more tea, fruit juice and water.

11:54 pm

Do you have the BR's?

11:54 pm

It's a line from one of the Dracula movies.

11:55 pm

Lotsa points there

11:55 pm

I have 9 brs

11:55 pm

Ah, well I haven't seen all those movies, samantha.

11:56 pm

I imagine most people haven't. There are so many! But that's a very famous line.

11:56 pm

There are around 20 I think SJ. Do you want to get them?

11:56 pm

Regardless, it was a reference to a movie, not to you as such.

11:56 pm

Sure!

11:57 pm

It's okay, Samantha, I get it.x

11:57 pm

It's a funny line...IOkay, start at br 4 7. Have that?

11:57 pm

Then 5 16. It builds on the 4.

11:58 pm

BR + abb. for schooling..

11:58 pm

People in UK quote funny lines that people in USA don't get and vice versa.x

11:58 pm

Then add second vowel for 5..., then pl. for the 6.

11:59 pm

2 mins left on grid.

11:59 pm

Then start with another 4- a 4 6. It's BR + a double vowel.

11:59 pm

So far I'm good

11:59 pm

Then BR + two vowels..a CHEESE
