Sorry then....
I'm my wife Jai's husband.
To en6 yourself to me, give me all the words... haha...+ en7
This is my poor husband's first night at Babble.... please welcome him... Crom....
Hallo Crom. I thought your introduction was a clue!
Yep, Sally' said it! Welcome, Crom - husband of jai, I believe...
fiar
Oh, damn - sorry!
Yes, he is my husband and he is lost, poor baby!!!
Crom, get out now, while you can, before you become addicted like the rest of us....
My husband wants to know what the point is of finding words that he has never heard of...gibberish, he says hahaha!!!!!
good morning all
welcome Crom! To the madness of obsolete words, scots spellings, quirky coins and babblets. If you want to have a look at some, or see words we made up, see my profile.
I'm not enjoying this so far.
Is an al7 a fish or what???
I ask myself the same question. Can't say my vocab has improved over the years, but it's the challenge of finding words that gets us in, no matter how obscure they are.
my vocab has certainly improved here. Partly thanks to chat, though. I think you have to be a language lover to like this game.
I guess if it was in Dutch, Sprite, and so was the chat, my Dutch vocab would have improved as well!.
probably, lol
Haven't got al7, jai. Looking now... Do you now how to look up definitions using the little question mark box?
He is grumbling about time going too slow...so I am telling him to hang it up. But I thank you for your kindness to my husband, Wa4!!!!
I dunno. That's not something I have tried...
I think she does, dofith, lol, she has been around for ages, our jai. A fish in babble can also be a word that is so common and easy to spot, it is worth a fish slap when you ask for it.
Oh, THAT fish!! Sorry! Can't find al7 anyway.
*giggles*
Hint??
Duh. Al7 is a fish found in the Great Lakes...I should have known that, having grown up by Chicago....<feeling stupid>
Clue, I mean?
roflollllllll I stand corrected. An actual fish, dofith!
Thanks for the *slap* I needed that to stay awake... it's 2:35 here....yawn...
I now lots about the Great Lakes - the Iroquois confederation etc., - never fished there!
I actually have never fished in Lake Michigan... Lake Superior, yes. I come from a Norwegian family that breathes fishing tackle....
I know, I mean. Only early afternoon here, so I've no excuse for mistakes.
Great big lures made of Sterling Silver spoons...the6 catch Pike and Musky....
no excuse needed for mistakes or babble blindness
Babble blindness???? Is that like you f8nd the word that is a nine, but miss that 3l4 is in the top row?????
... and husband's spouses, evidently!
that is exactly it, jai!
El4...the correctabitch fixed my clue....grrrr....
dofith, if you cannot find the fish, try searching for a drinking spouse
TY. You can slap me again....
Beer drinking spouse....
*gently hits jai over the head with a guppy*
I felt that
:D
Gotta go - grandkids pick up from school, soon. 'Bye jai and Sprite - and Crom if he's lasted this long!
hav a grand day, dofith
I am going to bed.... Wa4 is gone......(Crom).....It was great to see y'all!
night night jai, sleep well. It was nice to meet your beloved.
Wa4 is truly super... I am hoping he will join us... He is a karate teacher and lead guitarist....we jam together....
Managed that at 1.36, Sprite! See you gals tomorrow.
*poof*
*waves at Kam*
new dictionary word: outqu5 - to be stranger than the rest
:D!
Hi Sprite! I'm pooped tonight
lol doing a jilli, jai?
*hugs Kam* Don't chat if you don't feel like it, hun, it is all good. I hope you are pooped from fun stuff.
Too many fires, too much smoke and heat.
ouch, that is scary. Thinking of you, Kam. Take care.
One broke out less than 4 miles from home today, went to over 250 acres in less than 2 hours. Scary
please be safe, honey.
Just watching chat... that one was too funny too pass up....I am thinking of The Avangers movie 2 Age of Ultron... Thor says that they must have Re5... (and singular, too)
We are safe. We have good defensible space around our home, and so do our neighbors
am glad to hear it, Kam. Our very watery country does not have this type of scares. Drowning, yes, but burning, not on that scale.
I had a bad fire in MS back when I used to live there. My land and all around went up in five minutes...nine acres....it taught me how scary fires are....
awful, jai
Since hubby's house burned up 2 years ago, I just get super freaked out
We had cut paths through it to walk. Thank God we did, for the firemen could use them to run their hoses.... the guy who started the fire was (get this) a volunteer fireman turning garbage our county took away for free.....
totally understand that, Kam. Traumatic stuff, that.
*burning
he sure should have known better
So jam, I will pray. Hard. This is awful...a sign of GW.
GW?
Some idiot dumped hot BBQ briquets the other day...neighbors put it out, but it pulled firefighters off of big fires.
Climate change
*kam correctabitch again.....
ah, global warming, sorry, got it
That idiot is gonna have a big fat fine, plus all costs to respond.
that is very good, the only way some people learn is through their wallet, alas
Our pine in MS was very dry.... but that pine has ev9lved to need fire to drop seeds, to open cones. But MS is really wet, and the trees grow in Sandy loam.... but that year was too too dry... it was the year after Katrina, I think.
Our humidity has been below 20% for several weeks. Cars are covered in ash. I'm tired of it all. The sun is brown or orange, just creepy.
(((((((((Kam))))))))) stressful, all of it
I am so sorry. This climate thing I have seen since I was a girl, when hundreds of butterflies were yearly in the field behind me. Now, I never see one. Ever. No more Monarchs.
Thanks, Sprite. *Hugs* back.
climate changes are of all times, but it is sad that we humans have a big hand in it going faster
I actually saw a bee yesterday. One. Bee. First all year. Have seen a few bumblebees...and bambi ate most of my garden, aren't I just a pile of fun tonight? Ha!
I will 0ray you get rain to wash the air and sky clean.....We got 16" of rain last week, and had flooding. But I would rather have the excess rain than fires. So I will think of you...
bees and bumblebees are plentyful here. Lots of butterflies too.
plentiful*
I am moving. Overseas.
I have seen lots of butterflies this year :)
And get buzzed by hummingbirds when I'm out watering.
I swear to God that someone here in PA must be spray8ng for bugs. We have not a single mosquito, even....
I swear to God that someone here in PA must be spray8ng for bugs. We have not a single mosquito, even....
oh that is awesome! No hummingbirds here, too cold for them
well, mosquitos, I could do without, personally ;)
No mosquitos here, too dry. Plenty of other bugs - some kind of caterpiller is eating my petunias, and all I find is remains, no bodies to get rid of, lol!
we have lots of mosquitos. This year even more than usually, because of the wet winter with no real cold periods.
Firewords! I'm going to bed "early" tonight. Take care, everyone!
wtg Kam! Sleep well and dream of cool, clear skies
Please help me with re7.. I have done enough monkeying. Too tired.
The very last one
Wth, jam. Be at peace. I will 0ray.
make broader again, jai
I need to sleep. Really haha
Duh. Self administered fish slap. With large Musky, perhaps. They have teeth.
TY TY TY
lol :) Sleep well, dear one. No slapping of self. ;)
down to 16 here, won't be much longer
*genuine actual poofness*
who knew, ve7 could be past tensed into having one
fireflies. Bye all, have a blessed day and a peaceful night. *le5s hug in chog for rose to find*
Okay first run through and I have 38 words left for later.
At least I got the 9 and two of the 8s! Will come back later to see if I can find any more words. Happy babbling everyone!
Hint for the 9 lease
Ve 9/84, pt of ve 7/44
!! Is that even a word???
But thx
Dale
Who knew!! I only got it because sprite was saying just that at 4.23 when I came back on.
Found a whale! In fact two of them.
lt nwould be nice if Christian terminology was leftt out of the chat
?? I didn't ask if it was a Christian whale.
lol!! good one sally
There's a story about Jonah of course.
Not you, Sally, you are always dis creet and correct!
anyone have a clue for the last de 6 plz
I don't know what you're referring to, ruby, but live and let live. We are all friends here, whatever race, nationality, colour, sexuality or religion (have I left any out?).
De 6/24 What you might do to your toes after being on the beach.
ahh! tyvm
:-) ivesy
But there are those who even discuss their sex lives in here!!
Ivesy, you, too, are always correct and understand boundaries
ty ruby i try ..
l'm sorry to be thee perpeetual school maarm b_t although it's a dirty job, somebody has to do it.
Good morning/afternoon/evening all. This looks like a nice grid, so I'll get started.
It's a lovely grid Haz. Lots of plurals and past tenses.
So I'm discovering. I love the first run through.
Did it take you long to get back into the swing of babble, Sally?
A few days. It didn't help that the first grid I came back to was over 400 words. I just did what I could. I really can't spend all day on it! Some of the babblets are coming back to me nicely.
I have two particular phantoms today. One is Dorothy's dog in the Wizard of Oz, and the other is what a ballerina wears!
Yes, those big grids can take a while. But it's good that you've retained those useless in real life but essential for babble words.
Useless! You mean they're useless! Nobody told me.
Ssshhh. Let it be our secret.
I'm looking for the al7?? Any help appreciated!!
I sometimes play Words with Friends and my son accuses me of cheating because I know some "unusual" words. He asks me what they mean and of course I haven't a clue half the time.
To be honest, I don't mind the obscurity of some of the words, it all adds to the intrigue of the game.
I do that Sally, they do come in ueful sometimes
Al 7/56, start with a beer and end with not a husband.
Hello, Deeha. Thanks for asking for the al7, I hadn't got that length yet.
that is so easy!! Wasnt looking for a 'double' word. TYVM
Glad to help Haz!
I'm playing catch-up.
Is that a new game I haven't come across?!!
It's when you wait until other people have started babble and you hang around waiting for others to ask for helpful hints.
Just had one of those silly calls where they say they have information you've had an accident and it wasn't your fault.
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Words\n_with_Friends>
lol Haz
Did you string them along Haz? I sometimes do, if I'm in the mood. My most successful one was when the caller said "I don't want to talk to you"!
My policy is always to string them along until they put the phone down on me.
:-)
If I string them along they usually end up saying something very rude to me before hanging up.
I claimed this time that I was sitting in the car having just had the accident, hadn't even called the police so how did they know and were they spying on me.
Rofl!
My best was when they were trying to say my broadband wasn't fast enough. I played Mrs Paranoid, asked if the router was going to go on fire, was someone spying on me etc. The man got very irate, shouted that I was wasting his time. I pointed out that HE had rung me.
That call lasted seven minutes before he admitted defeat. I don't see why I shouldn't waste their time and money.
I like the Windows ones best. I have a Mac:-)
It makes me mad that they are happy to prey on people who don't realise they are being scammed.
I know two people who've been taken in by the Windows ones and have paid money to have their computers "repaired". One we ound out in time and he stopped his card. The other one is a particularly stupid friend so "shrug".
Ound = found
One of the calls I claimed that I was disabled and couldn't get to the computer downstairs until my carer came. 'Take your time, madam, go down the stairs, take your time.'
I lost my patience at that.
Giggle Haz.
Good morning, my babble friends. Oops, someone must have posted a long URL in the chog. Have not seen a 'blown" chog in an age. :)
I think that was me:-(
We'll forgive you, Sally. You've been away.
:)
Just remember to sign up for the refresher course.
That's a relief. I would hate to blot my copybook.
No biggie. it will clear when enough posts have happened to drop it off the bottom of the page.
Today's youth won't understand blotting copybooks, isn't that sad? They'll never know the joys of fountain pens.
My beloved does calligraphy and has a blotter on her desk. :)
When my son was at school, his teacher said he was okay when he got down to work, but would spend time doing such things as sharpening his pencil. This has become a catchphrase in our household in that my beloved has just accused me of sharpening my pencil since I should be cleaning out the chickens:-)
I like the idea of your boy sharpening furiously to put off starting his work. Did all his pencils end up as stumps? It's one way to look as though you're doing something instead of standing with your two arms the one length.
Well, I have 20 left so I think I'd better put my pencil sharpener down and will come back later. Good luck everyone.
Bye, Sally. The chickens will be glad. See you again!
And I am off to the kitchen. Lunch time. Bye for now.
oh
oh
Can't do chickens. Water off. Fireworks, so any clues needed?
v's hard
... got nine of them if it helps
There's a nice ve 7/44, with a plural and past tense.
if you can guess some that i might not have, you're welcome to clue :)
... woman's name ... also a BBC detective show from the north
... ve7/8 ... the front porch with a roof or railing and plural
i watched one or two episodes of that, but it seemed a bit ...
ahhhh thanks i always seem to miss long words
I love that programme! She's a wonderful actress and quite glam in real life.
... part of a poem or hymn ... also to have the ve7 .... also an adjective about the parts of poems
Ve 4/7 to swerve
... yeah ... everything always seems dire and dreadful and dreary on the show ... it's always sad when she catches the bad guy
yes, very bleak
Right, really must go now. See some of you tomorrow.
i am not sure what you mean by "to have the ve7" dos
bye sally :)
... first problem ... it's ve5 ... and that's the part of a poem
... never said that I could type
ok i think i have the things you mean, then
... In Grade 8 typing class I didn't put much effort into the practice lessons on typing numerals
tsk tsk
... oh it was 55 years ago ... the teacher has to be long dead by now ... h'e'll never catch me
*i* caught you
... yeah ... but you're seven hours away by plane ... and I can get a long way in seven hours
ha, that's what you think
a person's flag is not necessarily an indication of their actual location
... yeah ... but if you cross the border there's no guarantee that you'll get back across
really? then i'm coming ASAP
can i out- anything?
... the clothes you're wearing
ah thanks
help with the 9?
... sorry, not yet
... found it ... cheated and looked up lickety .... I had missed it ... ve 9/84 ... it's the past tense ending ... meaning to have a ve7
i can also get angrier than you, or sadder than you, dos, for a 7/8 combo
pft, ok, thanks. silly.
there is another ve5/6 combo, also
the 6 is ve + scandinavian male name
... ou7/8 combo ... it's another out ... it may be your angrier clue ... ... to have greater sensitivity
that is one questionable adjectival form.
not getting the to have a ve???
are talking about a patio?
i think, rob, that he just meant the word ... "you are very well ve6 in parisian politics"
the 7 in that original clue was a typo
Hi kids. TY for ve7 hint.
OK, I have that one. I'm looking for the ve 9
... nope ... a porch with a roof and/or railing for the ve7 .... plural for the 8 ... past tense for the 9
Yeah, I can't get the past tense one. What am I missing?
well it is just weird, you take the 7 and put a past tense ending on it
TY, Hurshy.
... ve9 ... a description of your house if it has a ve7
I'd misspelt it many times. It is the full ve7 plus past tense
Thanks. That is weird
Odd word.
... yeah ... but if you had a ve7 and it was a nice one?
then you'd say "ahhh, i have a nice ve7"
.... and the rest of the comment was ... .... and you wanted to sell the house how would your real estate agent describe the front of your house without ve9?
my real estate agent would say "porch"
... but a porch doesn't have a roof ... your ve7 does
a porch does have a roof, in the ways i have always been aware of its use. a deck doesn't.
and i don't think a la5 has a roof
... a deck is more often at the back or side
well my parents have a "front porch" and it does have a roof, that's all i know.
actually i'm not very aware of anybody having something off the front of a house without a roof
... house my parents bought when I was a kid had a porch or landing at the front door without a covering or roof ...
ah yes, i googled "front deck" and now realize i HAVE seen houses like that
... strictly speaking ... I'll bet that a veranda is meant to be bigger than a porch ... ... a porch would just give a landing in front of the door ... while a veranda would be in front of the greater part of the front of the houise
bzzzzt
I am sitting on my back deck now. 1/3 is uncovered. 1/3 has s roof. 1/3 is screened-in.
oh now you're just making things difficult on purpose
10 left!
I don't know what is the best word, I just call it my back deck.
... There's another word for that ... I caught a few minutes of some travel show or history show ... I think it's Charleston S.C. that has a lot of houses like that and there was some special architectural description of it
Go Hurshy, go!
... oh you're miles ahead of me ... just got to 80% ... time to go do some school work ... ... luck to all
phantom: dander
200 wordies!! woohoo!
I just noticed the Qu tile. I was working around it before.

Congrats, Hurshy!
See I knew you could do it!
i wouldn't have bothered without the help :) so thanks
More than welcome. You have helped me heaps in my early years of babble :-)
60 left may be back later to finish
Bye, Peri. Take care.
Hi all. Is the al7 obvious? I'm trying to figure out how blind I am.
It is a compound word, Smithchick beer + married lady.
Oh, duh! So I am pretty blind! Thanks!
The DEF says it is a fish. Not heard of it myself.
I've heard of it but never had cause to use it.
The only thing I caught when I was a young lad fishing was my brother's friends thumb. Haha! the hook went deep into his thumb and it took ages to get it out. Never been since!
the AL7 is an invasive fish that washes up on the shores of the great lakes in massive numbers after spawning. They're small silvery and smelly. There was a parody song that uses The Sound of Music's "Edelweis" as a base.
Thanks, Spellacked! Wonder if the song is on youtube.
Yikes! Poor kid. I guess I probably wouldn't go again either!
Well time for me to go and do other things. Happy babbling everyone!
Bye!
gee I got a fish and didn't even know it!
I was wondering why, if there's a beerwi4, why there isn't a teawi4
I was wondering if there is a te7, why there isn't an al/.
if I had the te7 I would probably wonder that also. clue?
A service for the te you mentioned. One might register for it if she was getting married.
a service? picturing a funeral for a broken cup
Like a set of something.
Some are silver...
the only word I can think of is set....
