7:20 am

hello friends. back to school again. SO out of it....what do I do here again? lol

7:21 am

Morning, Trif and Molly.

7:21 am

I've been thinking about you and your family, Trif.

7:23 am

thank you bzzn.

7:24 am

its nice to be busy again at work, actually

7:34 am

Hey! I was just texting you to see how it is going today?

7:34 am

Good morning, everyone

7:35 am

hi. I am deep in the concrete bunker right now....lucky to get wifi! lol. I survived everyone saying how sorry they are, which is a miracle. I BARELY slept last night, so I am a fair bit wooly, to be sure

7:35 am

how are you?

7:36 am

Barely slept last night as well. I'm OK.

7:37 am

I knew you would be able to handle it. I had a picture of robert STack getting through the airport in Airplane with all the witnesses and pamphlets and such...that was you this morning!

7:37 am

starting Lord of the Flies with my B block class next period...poor ol' Piggy....

7:37 am

7:38 am

I use Survivor and the Hunger Games as a referent, it helps them buy in

7:39 am

Honestly, I know there are "classics", but the reading list for Dylan next year is the same one I had :|

7:39 am

most of the books we read freshman year are a right bummer. We need to throw in a Hitchhikers Guide or something to break it up

7:39 am

Dylan used to love to read...now he hates it because it feels like work

7:40 am

I remember having to read The Scarlet Letter and On the Beach my freshman year...

7:41 am

Oh, and The Jungle...

7:41 am

I have to get to work. I hope the rest of your day is peaceful. Have a good day everyone :)

8:21 am

Try driving "recognition" around town. : D

8:22 am

I'll be happy with that, then. =)

8:22 am

Easter dinner was good Bea. Ham and potato au gratin, brown sugar carrots, asparagus, deviled eggs and home made rolls. How about you?

8:24 am

We had simple since it was just the three of us. Grilled ham steaks, scalloped potatoes and asparagus. I did devil two egss, but used too much mayo and they were runny.

Or Sissy Puss, as I like to say it.

12:43 pm

*Wonders how many people are looking up Sisyphus

12:44 pm

I actually took a whole semester of Greek mythology and happened to be awake the day we covered that one.

12:46 pm

I always liked Greek Mythology.

12:47 pm

*** psst - he was like a Greek Atlas ***

12:49 pm

Those Greek gods got around.

12:56 pm

Did he shrug?

12:56 pm

Eventually.

12:57 pm

And not for nothing, but Atlas was also Greek.

12:57 pm

12:58 pm

Sisyphus, in Greek mythology, the cunning king of Corinth who was punished in Hades by having repeatedly to roll a huge stone up a hill only to have it roll down again as soon as he had brought it to the summit. (Per the Encyclopedia Britannica).

word?

Libarebel, someone said it’s a trademark name.

5:47 pm

hmm.. ty nef-- it's in the "real" dictionary w/ lower case "r"

5:48 pm

Oh well...

5:49 pm

Well, you’ve been around long enough to know Enable dictionary has it’s own weird rules that we just don’t know. ;-)

5:50 pm

Enable s*cks!

5:50 pm

You are correct, nef :[]

5:51 pm

Yep! (I think that’s part of its’ rules!)

5:51 pm

I kept entering it in disbelief...

5:52 pm

:D

5:55 pm

*Don't look...Lil Monkey peed in the chat* : D

5:55 pm

The regular whinging about enable's failure to accept some word or another does get tiresome. Especially as it doesn't matter. If the game accepted your precious word, there would be one more word in the scoresheet, so there's nothing lost by it not accepting it. You know you found it. Pat yourself. The machine doesn't have to validate it for you.

6:07 pm

Hello all!

6:07 pm

could I have a gentle clue for the ro8 please?

6:10 pm

Oh, Tomago, it’s a frustration for many of us; I don’t think it hurts to whine about it every so often, -unless a person blathers about it nonstop. Sometimes it’s a conversation starter, you know?

6:11 pm

nm, found the ro7/8

6:12 pm

Hi nrkii. Ro8 isa spicy French mayo (which I’ve never seen before).

6:12 pm

thanks... monkeys came through for me :)

6:13 pm

Good monkeys, nrkii 😉

6:14 pm

My point is it's pointless.

6:14 pm

My point is it's pointless.

6:14 pm

Whinge about the stupid words it requires. But you got realtor, whether the machine required it or not.

6:15 pm

No, I do understand that if the word worked, it would just add to the total number of words. I’m sorry it’s tiresome to you.

6:22 pm

Hi TO!

trying to finish and get to other business. lousy night, need to check the bookshelf.

6:23 pm

Well, we all have opinions about the Enable word list and they are all valid.

or watch the bizarre eastern europena movies my guest has brought.

they are truly strange. and some quite funny.

6:42 pm

I wonder who decided on the er/or rules?! Like who decided realtOR and not realtER or teachER and not teachOR?? I wonder these things late at night when I havent found a new word in a while!!

6:44 pm

I get that. I wonder why some cultures use fetal, while others use foetal. And why some cultures use check and others use cheque. And why foetal and cheque get underlined in this chat as misspelled.

6:45 pm

*Waves at Dee. We miss you!

6:46 pm

I thought a lot of that was Americans wisely removing unwanted letters!

6:47 pm

Hi Molly-waves back! I do log on every day but sometimes keep my trap shut!!

6:48 pm

Hi Deeha. I was waving at VolleyMomDee. We really miss her a lot.

6:49 pm

sorry wrong Dee!!

No worries, you get a wave too. : D

6:59 pm

is it Whinging or Whining ?

6:59 pm

which one does enable accept :D

7:00 pm

I think British is Whinging...

7:00 pm

good question ruru

7:00 pm

I never heard "whinging" until I started playing this game.

7:01 pm

i've heard of Scwhinging :D

7:01 pm

I've heard of cringing

7:02 pm

and trolling too

7:02 pm

impinging or impingeing?

7:02 pm

And slinging

7:03 pm

Or stinging

7:03 pm

English is so weird re: soft "g" & hard "g"...

7:05 pm

and, also "weird"-- doesn't obey the "i" before "e" rule...

7:18 pm

Maybe that's why it's weird

7:23 pm

good point, Molly!

8:11 pm

Maybe spell it wceird then

8:28 pm

You know what? I don’t really think a lot of it matters much, does it? I went & fixed supper, ate, cleaned up the kitchen, and am now returning to Babble & we still haven’t solved the mysteries of our crazy British/American/Canadian “English” language; but it kept the conversation going, didn’t it?

8:46 pm

que? no habla ingles

8:46 pm

*giggle*

8:47 pm

Howdy Babblers.

8:48 pm

hey origami, how's things?

8:48 pm

do you do origami or is your name a metaphor or what?

8:49 pm

LOL, hurshy! I had thought of commenting about the French & Spanish effects on the language too; but decided against it.

8:50 pm

Hi, Orioles! I haven’t seen you here for a while, Nice to see you! :-D

8:50 pm

Ori, (dang spellcheck!)

8:51 pm

it's funny how there are so many cognates, and yet with english, spanish, and french, "speak", "hablar" and "parler" don't seem at all similar

8:51 pm

sometimes even when the english is a germanic word, the french and spanish are still more related

8:53 pm

hurshy, that’s *way* over my head. I don’t know nothing about any of that!

8:59 pm

(I just know that I don’t know anything about languages; I have a hard enough time with daily “English!”

8:59 pm

Hi Nef. I've been absent and/or lurking.

8:59 pm

Yes, Hursh. I do origami! Love it.

9:04 pm

9:04 pm

9:07 pm

I did fold 1000 cranes in memory of my son. I wasn't actually wishing for anything, though.

9:13 pm

9:13 pm

my i ask what happened to your son? if too painful, just ignore me.

9:13 pm

*may i

9:21 pm

He had schizophrenia. He died of alcohol poisoning. Drug overdoses are very common with people with that disease. I really didn't expect it, in that he was turning a corner in terms of dealing with his illness - taking his medication, seeing the doctor, asking for help when he needed it.

9:26 pm

((((Ori))))

9:27 pm

I know you’ve told me before about your son, ori.

9:39 pm

mental illness is the worst illness of all. and insurance companies limit payments. horrible horrible horrible.

9:39 pm

i am so sorry for you ori. so so sorry.

9:42 pm

Thanks guys. Actually in California, there is "parity," And my insurance provided him with needed care. And since he was disabled he was able to stay on my insurance. A blessing.

10:11 pm

That is a blessing, ori

10:36 pm

hello - anyone here?

10:37 pm

Hi, nan.

10:40 pm

hi nef

10:41 pm

they don't accept "realtor"?

10:42 pm

slain

10:46 pm

I wondered about that too playw

10:51 pm

not going to finish tonight - bye

10:57 pm

Earlier someone said that “realtor” is a trademark name.

11:03 pm

it is, indeed. i've always found that very weird.

11:03 pm

like Teacher (TM) lol

11:04 pm

Teacher is trademarked too?

11:04 pm

no

11:04 pm

i'm saying no other profession is

11:04 pm

so it's very weird

11:05 pm

Doctor (TM), Author (TM), Actor (TM), no no and no

11:05 pm

LOL!

11:07 pm

but the actual profession is (real estate) agent

11:10 pm

Interesting, dfmch; I didn’t know that either.

11:11 pm

in canada and the u.s. at least - it's illegal to claim you're a "realtor" unless you're associated with the association

11:11 pm

But then again; it makes sense once I thought about it for a while.
