4:46 am

Matty. Many congratulations on the birth of your beautiful granddaughter. How is she doing?

Thank you! Sooo much better. It was all dramatic and traumatic but she's really getting better every day. She's beautiful!

4:47 am

Did she arrive early, or suddenly?

Suddenly - emergency c-section at 37 weeks due to a fetomaternal hemorrhage. Transfusions, resuscitation - the whole nine yards

4:50 am

Oh my. How worrying. Were you being given a blow-by-blow account, or were you told after all the commotion?

4:50 am

sw

Bit of both. Sarah messaged me first thing Sunday morning when she saw I was awake and online, so I missed the actual birth (and would have done so anyway, given the emergency nature of it) and Sarah was pretty ... high (from morphine) when I first spoke with her. But we've been speaking almost every day since so am now getting fairly blow by blow updates

4:53 am

Damn you coronavirus!!! But hopefully you will get to see her very soon

4:53 am

~both of them ~

I hope so! I miss them terribly

4:55 am

congratulations Matty!! and blessings to mom and babe

Thank you x

5:09 am

How lovely - congrats Matty!

5:10 am

Where does your daughter live?

Melbourne suburbs

5:12 am

can you get closer?

Nah. There are no flights ;) Kingsville

5:15 am

Ah - on the other side of Melbourne to me. I used to work over that way. You must be relived that we are doing OK with the Coronavirus over here

5:15 am

relieved too!

So very!! One fewer thing to worry about. It's just hard being so far away

Tilly is in the Royal Women's Hospital

5:18 am

She is still there? Your daughter is home? and trekking in each day. Royal Womens has a very good reputation

Sarah went home (from a different hospital!) yesterday. Tilly is doing very well and has no interventions - the feeding tube even came out today. She has an MRI on Tuesday - we hope, all being well, she can go home next week

5:21 am

Gosh - sounds very worrying for you all but I am sure it's all pretty routine for the Hospital. Happy that Sarah is pretty close to the Royal Womens

Yeah, she said about 20 minutes' drive. So far (and everything crossed), Tilly's doing really well

5:23 am

Tell Sarah to enjoy a few nights sleep before Tilly gets home

5:24 am

Congrats, Matty! Glad mom and wee one are doing well.....whew!

Hah - Sarah's waking up every three hours to pump!

FW

5:26 am

Congrats.

5:30 am

Hello. It's cold here too.

OK - have fun ladies and gents. Byeeeee

5:31 am

I'm trying to wrm my hands enough to type properly. hurray for hot cups of tea

5:32 am

Hi Scrabs. How are you and your work colleges? You were worried about a couple of them.

5:32 am

I am sipping tea as well.

5:32 am

very important :) are you working today?

5:32 am

I'm onto the chardonnay - warming me on the inside

5:32 am

equally important!

5:33 am

My colleagues tested negative for Coronavirus but we suspect the one guy had a false negative test. Someday we will all get antibody tests. We remain vigilant and anxious. This virus is vicious throughout the body.

5:33 am

colleagues - that looks better spelling

5:34 am

I knew what you meant, lynxxx. :-)

5:35 am

did you get some more PPE?

5:35 am

hmmm apparently Silverclaw wants to play babble today as well

5:35 am

I am working 9-12 and this is my on call weekend. The most recent flurry of phone calls from parents has been about COVID toes--sores on top of multiple toes. This is a mysterious dermatologic manifestation of the virus.

5:35 am

she can probably spell better than me

5:35 am

We have enough masks and cleaning supplies.

5:36 am

Not heard about the toe thing - but then again we haven't got so many cases here

5:36 am

toe sores?! how strange

5:38 am

Google "COVID toes." Fascinating. Probably a microvascular issue.

5:40 am

huh how interesting!

5:41 am

So parents are calling us about this for their kids who have no other symptoms.

5:42 am

the range of symptoms are so incredibly varied, it must be so easy for parents to worry

5:43 am

Maternal anxiety is the backbone of pediatrics.

5:43 am

how much of your work is more psychology based without parental anxieties?

5:45 am

Mental health issues in children dominate our work now. Anxiety, depression, behavior problems.

5:45 am

thats so sad

5:47 am

I don't know the US system - but do all your patients need their parents permission / have their parent(s) there for consultation?

5:48 am

I was just googling how bad Coronavirus was in Scotland - very funny article including..." Oh, and if the schools do reopen, they will be socially distanced and all kids will have to be kept apart, instead of just the feral ones". Who said scottish humour was dry?

5:49 am

At age 12 we encourage parents to leave the exam room so that private and confidential issues can be addressed. And we must honor confidentiality unless a kid mentions suicide or homicide.

5:49 am

they used the word feral? crikey lol

5:50 am

its awful in scotland, the country has run out of Buckfast (dirt cheap alcohol of choice)

5:50 am

Haha, lynxxx. We do use the word feral in our office (staff and doctors) because we truly see so many feral kids.

5:50 am

I don't think it was anyone official - I hope not anyway!

5:51 am

it must be a relief for some of them to have that line of communication outwith their parents

5:51 am

wouldn't surprise me if it was someone official, knowing scotland!

5:51 am

Atalante, some parents REFUSE to leave the exam room and honor their child's privacy.

5:52 am

thats what I was wondering - my mum used to do that!

5:53 am

I'm off - see you all later

5:53 am

bye my dear!

5:57 am

All the children we work with have Trauma, all are a direct result of parenting or the lack of. Feral is a great word, i might introudce it in the staff room :)

5:59 am

M3, yes, lack of parenting, either neglectful and nonassertive parenting, is prevalent here.

6:00 am

Its the school i work at we have those that can on manage main stream. However all parents feel its the duty of the school to inistill dicipline and morals ! our little Primay school now has an Isolation room !!!

6:04 am

Hhhhhmmm I dont like these Hs

6:05 am

Yes, M3, parents have relinquished their roles as parents and expect teachers to do it all. Schools are overwhelmed with disciplinary issues all day.

6:13 am

is that because theyve not got enough help in how to parent? or am I being too naive

6:16 am

Modern parents are wimpy and nonassertive. Child-centered homes create feral kids. KIds need discipline to become proper adults.

6:17 am

And now I must get ready for work. Tata.

6:18 am

have a good day!

6:18 am

ho

6:18 am

Haz! How splendid :)

6:19 am

Sorry! A slip of the fingers when working in Expert.

6:19 am

its definitely not christmas yet

6:19 am

Anyway, nice to see you. I have to report that we did tackle the cocker spaniel grooming problem.

6:20 am

and??

6:20 am

The clippers weren't quite professional standard, but we managed. Over three days we got enough hair out of that dog to stuff a cushion.

6:20 am

It's not perfect but he is much cooler and nobody has laughed at him when out walking.

6:21 am

its bonkers how much fur they've got

6:21 am

no wonder they are little internal combustion engines

6:21 am

well then, job well done :)

6:21 am

We will not be taking this up as a thing. It was all a bit of an ordeal, although he was very patient. Patient but puzzled.

6:22 am

Seriously, I couldn't believe his paws. It's so thick. But he's nice and sleek and appears to have lost huge amounts of weight.

6:22 am

you do sometimes realise that dog groomers earn every penny you give them!

6:23 am

Absolutely. They are amazing.

6:24 am

Loki has an ear infection for the millionth time so he's feeling very sorry for himself that I won't let him submerge his entire head in the sea multiple times a day

6:24 am

Oh, poor Loki. Lots of head shaking and floppy ear?

6:25 am

oh yes, especially at 2am

6:25 am

But you don't ring the vet. Others might.

6:26 am

I admit I did eventually, this morning, because Loki just shrieked when I looked in his ear. BUt I explained and they looked at his records and just got some ear drops for him without any consultation or anything

6:27 am

Yes, if he has a history they can prescribe. Apparently they are trying to keep people out of the surgery as much as possible, farmers are buying stuff through the window.

6:28 am

yep! his ear drops got dropped into a bucket from the surgery window :)

6:28 am

It's all a bit Heath Robinson.

6:29 am

I certainly didn't want to take up their time, I felt really bad even just phoning them for ear aches

6:29 am

You missed the sa4 earlier this year of Loki being a medical wonder

6:29 am

Oh, they'll not mind that. It's the stupid stuff at 3 o'clock that's annoying.

6:30 am

How so? A cure for some dread disease?

6:32 am

he had a v quickly growing lump right by the lymph nodes in his neck, it got to golf ball size in a few weeks. So they took it out and the vet who operated (who adores Loki and has known him since he was a pup) nearly gave up because the lump was all attached to everything and had a good blood supply of its own. Anyway she spent 2 hours of her own time getting it done and Loki sewn up (he looked like Frankenstein's pup) and both the vet and I were 90% certain the lab results were going to come back with something seriously wrong and life limiting

6:33 am

But...

6:33 am

so the results came back and they couldn't find any sign of cancer, any sign of anything. they suggested it might have been a reaction to a thorn or something, but there was no thorn in the lump.

6:33 am

Curiouser and curiouser.

6:33 am

absolutely

6:34 am

And a total recovery?

6:34 am

so either the test results were really wonky, in which case we'll soon see I'd guess. or he's just a weirdass dog that had something noone can work out

6:34 am

absolutely fine so far!

6:35 am

I'd go for the special dog with an exclusive condition.

6:35 am

When was this?

6:36 am

thats what we're going for too. Katrin just said to keep a really close eye on him for any new lumps. This was February

6:37 am

Hi all! I'm smiling at all the love & concern for the wee doggo. What we animal lovers do, eh? I have a 16 yr old Maine Coon who's been toothless for about 4 years (he was a feral kitten). He consumes 6-8 jars of baby food every day...at $1.00 per jar... Love the old boy.

6:37 am

Okay, so not that long ago. As you say, just keep an eye on him and hope that it was something unusual but non-recurring.

6:38 am

yep! I know that if there's a thorn or grass seed somewhere it may re-lump. and if it does, they are going to whip the lump out asap before letting it grow!

6:38 am

awwww nothing like a beloved old cat :D

6:38 am

weegee, my 'life' was animals for a long time, husband just retired from being a vet in January last year. I used to answer the emergency phone so know all about pet lovers.

6:39 am

You've obviously been well trained by your cat, weegee, no cheap rubbishy food there!

6:39 am

is Mr Haz loving being retired? I can imagine that wanting to help every animal you see doesn't really go away

6:40 am

Haz, sounds like a wonderful life full of love but heartbreak too, sometimes, yes?

6:40 am

He's really enjoying it, he was absolutely ready to retire because he was just at the point of hating work every day.

6:41 am

oh good :D

6:41 am

weegee, lots of heartbreak but laughter as well. He specialised in farm animals and you need to be physically strong - his knees were starting to give him bother.

6:41 am

that he's enjoying it not that he hated work!

6:42 am

He just admitted one day that he couldn't face another spring so we started making arrangements for retirement.

6:42 am

Ah, perfectly understandable.

6:43 am

Our life revolved around the rota, whether we were on call at night. That' pressure has gone now, problem now is we have nowhere to go until lockdown stops, but that will happen eventually.

6:43 am

firebirds :)

6:44 am

Well done!

6:45 am

some sneaky words in there

6:46 am

I am seeing!

6:46 am

Yes, some from the less commonly used drawer.

6:46 am

yes, I'm struggling with the T's

6:47 am

have you got the ones that really need some more vowels to be proper words?

6:47 am

i have 7 of the 10 for T

6:48 am

5 of 10 here. Even tried "toyrag" Cleaning cloth for toys? :)

6:48 am

The t words are tricky.

6:48 am

one tw is a type of jacket that professors wear

6:48 am

a second one, take the last letter off

6:49 am

they're in my 5

6:49 am

Funnily enough, toyrag isn't even approaching the oddness of two of the t 6 words. More imagination needed...

6:49 am

one ryhmes with the toy that is on a string

6:49 am

plus a plural

6:50 am

yep, toyrag has way too many vowels in

6:50 am

Throw caution to the winds and go for experimental typing.

6:50 am

Also, Greek Helen of tr/4

6:50 am

an ear bit as well

6:51 am

and 2 words that are babblets that not even the dictionary can define

6:52 am

well i htink i am missing an ear bit... I have no idea what that is lol

6:55 am

actually its plural of an ear bit

6:56 am

And a latin plural. THose Romans were tricksy.

6:56 am

aye they were

6:56 am

It looks like the start of a play that's not a comedy.

6:57 am

troyol

6:57 am

ears are generally not comedic

6:57 am

oh, well, THAT clears it up :) (not really)

6:57 am

Especially cocker spaniels with infections in theirs.

6:58 am

tr5/14 - missing a c on the end that would make it descriptive of something very sad.

6:58 am

or if you had a problem with your stomach / intestines. that would be sad too

6:59 am

I think I am only missing the 6s for the Ts now

7:00 am

thanks, got it!

7:00 am

Prepare yourself for a surprise with those two.

7:00 am

ha ha, i will :)

7:00 am

th6/27. Old fashioned term for you, followed by a flower minus a vowel.

7:01 am

The second one has a different vowel on the end of the word.

7:01 am

you mean a compact branching inflorescence, as of the lilac, in which the main axis is indeterminate and the lateral axes are determinate isn't a well known description?

7:01 am

Exactly, Ata, you read my mind.

7:02 am

got the flower

7:02 am

It's maybe better to say old fashioned term for your, rather than you. Or use Ata's clue, it's much clearer.

7:02 am

great clue :)

7:02 am

botanists are just gluttons for word punishment

7:03 am

Excellent. We have a satisfied customer, Ata.

7:03 am

I have 40 left, and am going to go get ready fro the day. Trying to get to the store for a few items before it gets too busy. Have a great morning!

7:03 am

always important. just wait till mlf comes on and needs clues ....

7:03 am

You too, Lisa.

7:05 am

And Mr Haz and the spruced up canine have arrived home for their walk so I'd better go and rustle up some lunch. Good to see you, Ata. Hope Loki gets better soon.

7:05 am

lovely to see you too and hear about the canine and Mr Haz!

7:05 am

See you again!

7:06 am

Have a lovely day

hello

7:14 am

greetings!

hi weege

7:15 am

hello!

hi ata

i got those th words straight off, seeing the clues.

though i must admist, yours was the better clue! ;D

7:16 am

TO, how's PA coping with state liquor stores closed? (totally off topic)

not well. they've opened moreo fthem - you have to phone in an order for piickup, and folks say they cannot get through.

but beer distributors are open, and many groceries now sell beer and wine.

7:18 am

Ah. I bought a 5 litre box of wine last week and had to stand in a looooong spaced line. Liquor stores here in KY are raking it in, like Amazon... sigh...

funny, i rarely have any alochol in the house but state stores had a sale justbefore this came down. i accompanied a friend and ended up buying some liquer.

omg i cannot IMAGINE if it was all in the state stores still. positively uncivilized.

7:21 am

Not to mention disaster for alcoholics. Our governor mentioned that medical consequence when asked why liquor stores are still open. I hadn't thought of that.

nor had i, but it's been discussed here.

i have to go, my hair is drying. i need ot style it. i try to keep up though no one will see me, except when i walk later and hang the laundry.

ata, is loki ill?

7:23 am

Good on you. I've given up - avoiding the mirror (AND the scales!)

oh please. i am thinking of trimming my bangs. they are cumbersome when i wear a mask.

facetime really brings it all home. peole are all" what's that dark circle around your left eye", etc. it's disheartening.

7:26 am

I refuse to facetime!

7:26 am

he's got an ear infection :(

my iphone has a blown speaker. i thinnk i did it in whilst disinfescting it.

7:27 am

but I was telling Haz about a few months ago when we all thought he was very ill - but he wasn't :)

aww, poor loki!

7:27 am

Liquor stores on the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland are making a fortune from the Pennsylvania people driving over to get liquor.

oh my.

7:27 am

Later all. Time for a late breakfast.

Delaware has taken to stopping PA plates and turning them around, if not on the interstate.

gtg, hair is needing styling. later.

7:29 am

People are resourceful. If they want liquor they will find a way to get it. Case in point, Prohibition.

7:38 am

some liquor stores in PA will reopen this Monday for curbside service

7:38 am

hi all

7:39 am

Morning, peri

7:39 am

I'm sure when they re-open they will be doing a brisk business.

7:40 am

Hey, Molly, do you know anything about uploading flickr pics to babble profile?

7:42 am

In the box below "BIO" there is a place to link your flickr information

7:43 am

Yes, I tried that, but it wouldn't let me load them from firefox.

7:43 am

I will have Mr. Bea look at it. Not sure I have IE on my computer.

7:44 am

I see your flikr pictures in your profile. Beautiful quilts. You are really talented.

7:44 am

Oh, they showed up...

7:45 am

I see them too, Bea, they are lovely

7:45 am

Thank you both.

7:45 am

And the bunny bags are adorable.

7:47 am

8:26 pm

I had a great day.I had a sunny and warm day here in NY.

8:27 pm

8:28 pm

I went walking for almost an hour with a friend and then spent another hr at the dog park. Back to rain tomorrow.

8:28 pm

mkg, di8. not live + first and last letters of my name + abbreviation for not brother

8:31 pm

mkg has left the building. I just checked "Who's Online".

8:31 pm

min, rainy here. temperatures mild though. we took the easter treats for the grandies over to my son's last Friday. cntact-free and i was okay until son came outside to talk to us. i burst into tears. to be so near and notallowed to hug was very painful.

8:32 pm

lol...min.... i usually check. obviously didn't this time. i wish she would at least say good-bye. it's a little disconcerting, to say the least.

8:33 pm

I have been meeting with my family via zoom. It nice to have technology where we can still "see" our loved ones.

8:34 pm

See people here come & go without a wink all the time.I think people leave faster than they entered sometimes.

8:35 pm

i have been using FB video chat. as you say, at least to see them is so nice. my youngest son in his 30's is having a hard time of it. he is usually all over his brothers and i, with hugs etc.

8:37 pm

You cannot really go by "Who's Online" because some will appear be "online" without logging off, however they are really not here. I think a lot of babblers never sign out.

8:38 pm

I ALWAYS sign out of any website that I have to sign in to.

8:39 pm

i guess i had better say ttfn. it's laundry day, and we are having a roast lamb dinner tonight. will use slow cooker i think. maybe i'll see you at the flip, honey> xox

hi, all.

10:00 pm

The New York weather God can't make up it mind either. Tomorrow and Monday it will be rainy and in the forties.

10:00 pm

Hi melonheadjujube! How are U doing? Welcome to grid.

I am well. I have the things I need and my kids are OK, tho I miss them.

My daily routine includes a walk around my neighborhood near dusk. The weather has been balmiest at that time, and right now the robins sing their hearts out as they figure out on which brach of which tree they will spend the night. Then, they stop!

Ohio has rainy 50s tomorrow. I'm overdue for a solo bike ride.

The top row T has me flummoxed.

10:06 pm

My daily routine is to do school in the morning,go out for a walk with my dog in the afternoon, come home and fun in the evenings. Notice, no mentioning of cleaning apt.

ah, nbt.

10:07 pm

Is that top row t one of the th6 words melonheadjujube?

hah! It took me 7 weeks to clean something, and I sprained my ring finger in the process. I decluttered a room that had truly become a junk room. I like the space and lack of clutter, but I had to stay away from the piano and the bike while my finger healed up.

It's weird having no alarm wake me, nobody really to answer to. I am eating well, and even losing a little weight. I shop every two weeks, and no, running out of Reddi-Wip is not a reason to go shopping. Running out of vegetables is. I'm eating two good meals a day, one around noon and one in the evening. Lots of veggies and legumes.

I am going to hit the hay now. I want to get up early and dive into the Sunday papers. Ciao. Nice chatting.

10:10 pm

the top T is 3 th words and 2 to words I think

10:11 pm

The only thing that I've done is organize my food pantry.I was opening it & something would fall on my head every time so that was a sign to do something about it. 😆

10:12 pm
