Good afternoon everybody! Just started on this one today. normally I don't pop in on the weekend, but the boyfriend is working on building a new spice rack for my kitchen, and I am kind of twiddling my thumbs lol

He is so excited about his new wood cutting tools he got for Christmas, and its a nice day out, so he is finally having an opportunity to test them out. I am a little lost in that world.

I am excited! We have been remodeling the kitchen during quarantine, and finally finished the painting and trim, and then he suggested building a new spice rack (the previous one was one my boys refurbished from an old medicine cabinet almost 10 years ago).
We took our time on the kitchen, doing bigger stuff on the weekends, and little things each evening during the work week. It paid off, it looks amazing.
There is nothing more satisfying than making things yourself from scratch instead of just buuying it in the shop. Kudos to you both for going for it. Sounds like you both have enjoyed this lockdown in doing something together and constructive at that!

It is astounding how differently this virus stay at home thing is affecting people. Some are out of work and in fear of losing their homes, others have the money to remodel. I see new roofs going up all over my neighborhood.

my neighborhood HOA put a moratorium on approving things, which stinks for the people that want to use this time to do things to their houses. it's odd IMO, because all they have to do is stand outside and look at a house from the street.
Molly, we are both fortunate that our jobs are essential. Marc is a project manager for the salt mine. He has to go to work everyday still. And, my job is able to work from home fortunately. Neither of us have been impacted monetarily thank goodness!

We have been impacted in other ways, my mother is now sick, I have watched from afar as my friends mother has passed away, and now my son, who has a weak heart, is sick along with his girlfriend. We have watched as stores have closed, food has been more scarce, and the world has shut down around us.

It has been a hard transition, and thank goodness we have been able to do something to keep our minds off of all the negativity and harsh reality around us.
I have called them everyday. I have sent edible arrangements to them and had puzzles delivered. It is hard to be away from my loved ones while they are coping with their own stresses. Normally we use each other to get through tough times.
yes -- it seems like the US either has a lot fewer restrictions than we do, or the people just aren't paying any attention unless they are made a punishable offence. Most people here are voluntarily self isolating as much as possible -- even in rural areas. As a result our province has relatively few cases and deaths compared to those with similar populations and demographics. Most of our cases are coming from 4 nursing homes and 3 businesses that employ foreign workers.

cybernan- the restrictions in Ohio are more of suggestions, with the acceptance of a few. I have rarely gone out of the house, but when I have, I can see that things are different and less people are out. The people that are out are mostly covered up. (masks, gloves)
Unfortunately, not everyone is following strict guidelines, including people like my son and mother. My son just bought his first home right when everything was starting up with the pandemic in our area, and yet, he still asked for help from friends to move in, still had people over to show them his new home.
My mom and dad have still gone to see my brother, who is a plumber, and goes into different people's homes everyday. It is shocking to me that they weren't taking this more seriously.

There are some businesses that are not allowed to be open, like barbers and salons, but most stores are considered essential and can find a loophole to stay open.

the main reason people here are being asked not to travel is because hospital capacity and facilities in the resort and rural areas are much less well equpped to handle a large influx of people than the cities are. BC has a lot of holiday/resort areas that could not handle a major outbreak among tourists.
I think we are being asked not to travel due to being in a major city, and carrying the virus to other areas.

I don't think whether something is being allowed should be a guide to our actions --- look at Florida -- would you want to go to one of those crowed beaches or live in a town where people are flocking to the beach? The concept of community or herd immunity sounds great -- but not so great for those or the families of those who die.

We have one province who closed all borders to everyone but essential workers and enforced strict stay at home laws. They have now gone for 14 days with no new cases!

They just make you go quickly enough to get your heart rate up, and then they make you keep going at that rate for a few minutes. It's not as torturous as I imagined beforehand.

Hard to put this delicately, but let me try this... The more fit you are, the harder they have to make you work to get your heart rate up.
So less fit usually means less work.
