Hi everyone. I just saw the announcement that 50% of Americans are fully vaccinated, as of today!

i was lucky enough to have been vaccinated almost 2 months ago. hope everyone is well
I am one of the 50% then!! I just got to see my oldest daughter today. I haven't seen her for months and this was the first time without masks.
It was so hard not seeing family. I didn't see my dad for more than a year -- it's the longest I've gone in my life without seeing him. So great that we can do that again!

I get my second vaccination on Tuesday. It was supposed to be on the 10th but I got a text from the NHS suggesting I might like to get it earlier, so I am. Remember, the UK has typically had 12 weeks between shots
Here, we are also at just over 50% with at least the first dose on board, but our fully vaccinated still only sits at around 6%. Seems that June and July with be ur time for second doses.
My second dose seems slated for August. :/
We're at 74.2% first dose and 47.3% second dose - but those percentages are of the adult population. We're not (yet) vaccinating children

In Ontario the local response has been better than at the federal level

The second time I was standing in the queue for our school meals when from behind a boy punched the back of my head for no reason so I put my leg behind his and pushed him over. We both got punsihed for it.

i remember one of the teacher's kids had 7 classes with me. every class he harassed me constantly. no teacher did anything about it. right before the 7th class, he started touching me while he harassed me. i couldn't get away from him. period 7 is his mother's class. i put him into a locker. he hit me once and it was broken up. he never messed with me again.

there is a better solution than that! -- just tell the parents that if their kids can't or won't behave and show proper respect for others in school, the parents will have to arrange for home schooling.
There's a lot of research to show that physical punishment of children is useless at changing behavior. Why do something that doesn't work just because it makes you feel better to punish someone?
That's a good situation when the behavior is willful, nan, but sometimes kids can't behave because they have mental or physical problems, or simply something basic like they're hungry. You're right that if the school can't give the kid whatever they need that the kid needs to go someplace that can.

I found that quite often bad behavour in the classroom was a bid for the attention they weren't getting at home. Quite often finding some way to make the parents sit up and take notice brought an improvement.

that's good when it works, nan, for sure. I have a friend who's a juvenile court judge and she says that almost all the kids she sees either have undiagnosed learning disorders or (surprisingly, to me) need dental work.
but that's kids who are in very serious trouble. most have been thrown out of multiple schools
learning disablilites do create problems, I agree, but those that wind up in juvenile court are not the majority of misbehavers.

Well, they are considered a family. They have all had their first shot, I get mine on Thursday. I had planned to get mine last month but I was sick that day and didn't think it was a good idea to go.
And good news here is that they are shortening the time people have to wait for their second shot. It was up to 4 months at one time.

The vaccines that are approved in the US have a shorter interval than 4 months.
