it's like sudoku in terms of using 1 number in each row and column, but then instead of the blocks, it has outlined areas where the numbers make a math problem.

Okay. I do those in puzzle books.
it's' great to use in math classrooms because you can do it from super small simple addition up to expert 9x9
so any kid from K-12 can find an appropriate level of challenge
if you've played killer sudoku, that's more like kenken, but killer sudoku only has adding, whereas kenken you can do all 4 arithmetic operations
and in killer sudoku you can only use each number once per math problem, but in kenken you can use it more than once if it is not in the same row or column
