hi all. I got the flu vaccine and the covid booster yesterday and other than some mild pain at the injections site I had no reactions.
good for you peri -- had my flu shot last week, but still waiting to be called for the covid
I will get flu next week at my regular check up. I'm undecided about covid. I got the original and boosters. Last booster wiped me out. Pain at the site and sick. Got Covid anyway. But nothing has ever been as bad as when I was still teaching and got strep, flu A and flu B all at once. The doctor chuckled when he got the results. If I hadn't felt so awful, I might have boinked him on the head.
this years covid is for the new varient that seems to be making people quite ill

I've had influenza and covid vaccines- 6 for covid. I had covid when it was a new thing and was in the hospital for 3 days. They wanted me to stay longer but it was freaking me out. I signed out AMA. Since then I have had omicron and rebound, but my last covid shot only left me feeling achy for a day. I had influenza last year too. It's been an all around disaster health wise, but I am feeling fine and safe enough to be in the gym again. I got my last booster at my doctor's office and was in and out in 5 minutes.
Kaplan, thank you for staying boosted. For those of us with compromised immune systems, it is deeply appreciated. I wear a mask still when indoors at stores and such, and I get boosted too.
I don't understand why all who are able don't get vaccinated. How often does medial research have to prove that it is the only way to eradicate a disease?
Not to start an argument over it, but I don't think medical science has proven that vaccines will eradicate this particular disease. And I say that as an immuno-challenged person who has had 5 shots. None recently though -- my doctor and I agreed that we can put a pause on them for now.
I respect everyone's decision to get boosted. Go for it. But there are legit reasons some people should not.
Which is just to say, cybernan, that my definition of "all who are able" may differ from yours. I think some who are technically able will still have good reason to choose not to, at this point.
nrkii, absolutely there are some folks where it is contraindicated. I wish everyone who CAN do it would, but unlike the polio vaccine, people have choices. I respect that.
as a medic, we also have to accept that no vaccine is "safe". Risk is subjective. What I think is too risky is not the same as what some of my clients think, even with all the facts. Its part of being wonderfully and uniquely human and thank goodness the law protects this intrinsic part of being human by section 8 of the human rights act

my oldest son was required to get one back in Jan. '22 to return to college. the problem is he probably had it the week before but there was a test shortage and wasn't able to get tested, and now they say to wait a month or three so who knows what that did to him.

well, hate to break it to you, but I've been getting the flu shot for at least 20-25 years and I've had the flu at least 3 times.
I get talked into flu shots every year for past 8 or so, even though I swear I am 100% immune to the flu (yes, that is possibke, and yes, I really believe it based on my medical history)
I am eligible for shingles vax now too. I had shingles a few years ago so I know it's terrible, but I've heard the shot is terrible.
I have not had anything even remotely resembling the flu since I was about 7. Nor stomach viruses.

mr. homie gets a stomach bug like it's his business, but I very rarely do. in fact, he had one when we were in CO in Sept and I didn't get it. though it's possible I had a very mild version right before him.
my autoimmune disease, I believe, has rendered me impervious to some viruses, but more susceptible to others... it was like viral russian roulette when covid emerged... will I be immune? will I be in the hospital? who knows? My Rheum couldn't predict it either. So I hid inside for about 2 years.

that is the thing with covid, it's so random how it affects people. no way of predicting.
I get head colds, and they used to regularly turn into sinus infections and bronchitis, but zinc has kept the infections at bay for the last many years.
I used to get at least one bad head cold a year. last one I had was Feb. 2020. I'm still not convinced it wasn't covid.
