Read and enjoyed your story this morning Stid
ROFL!
i don't know TSM.

i'm soo excited
I sure feel bad for kirstinc. a friend of mine lost a 3 month old baby about 3 weeks ago. its just heartbreaking
Good evening all! A little more to get our teeth into today...
oh! thanks flosey -- the third chapter is up now at BabAnon, will do the next chapter when I can, though the kids get home at noon, so may not have much time.

TSM is ok, last heard of a few weeks ago I think. She can't Babble at work :(
You have that right Mayne!
Anyhow, to work...
hi harp
oh -- thanks Atalante. I am sorry I missed her. Too bad she can't babble from work anymore...
Yes..to work... *squints in concentration*

Tis a kiwi. What's a polly?
A photo from the west coast of Van Isle Flosey.
i think i'm a day ahead on the icon but oh well =)
wow davurs - that is so nice !
we should have a babblers convention there
woot! kakapo!
A polly is a parrot. I thought a kiwi was a fruit or a New Zealander like you!
TY Debbinta
A Babblers Convention - what a great idea!
davurs, that's Debb in LA!
I can see my kiwi. Can you see a parrot? That's a kakapo. Maybe I'm having the timelag.

{{{{{Lickety}}}} and ***Lickety*** and thanks for sharing him, mrp!
Wonderful, wonderful Lickety!
thanks, lickety!
i know angb, i felt so anonymous, went pro before the 2 week trial was up also!
elizabeth peters - hurray!!!!
I'm gonna need the list with this one I'm afraid
oh you know her atalante?
I am going to the list already, so I have time to tell a story tomorrow... brb
I LOVE her books. Amelia is *fabulous*
angb - ask Dr O for the NZ flag!
*Dr_God
When I meet him ... where is he?
the last one i read was the one that was written after her death by a new author.
angb, what kind of bird is that?
haven't got that far yet - we're a few books behind you over here :(
atalante, have you read her barbara michels books?
didn't we do authors a week ago?
hi all, how big is today's grid?
tens
All depends. Some are seeing a kiwi, some a kakapo. Tech hitch or something.
they have more of a supernatural twist, darker than the amelia books.
sorry!
i guess it's a kakapo, it doesn't look like a kiwi.
some of them - 4 or 5 maybe. ish. they weren't really printed over here (nor many of her non-Amelia Elizabeth Peters books) but I've picked a few up in charity shops and stuff over the last few years and celebrate when I find one! I don't like them as much as Amelia, but I still really like it
ping, today is favorite author, last time was favorite authors...see the difference? (me neither)
I'll give the icon a kick later, but I'm enjoying this grid. And should go and cook dinner
aha!
that was me when i worked in the used bookstore, i would be so happy to see a peters or michels book!!
well we do love books so it's a good one to repeat, right?
utterly!
i'd forgotten how much i enjoyed reading these, i'm going to have to get to a used bookstore and look for some. new paperbacks are soooo expensive these days!
Up for breath. As you say Angb, I am enjoying this grid.
I usually turn back to Amelia books when I need a good comfort read
who are 'peters or michels' and what kind of books do they write?
yes, good grid. lots of words and not too easy.
Angb - you can email him - feedback@playbabble.com
kierlex, look at my profile.
woal
whoops!
oh! thanks franmag...
kierlex, elizabeth peters who also wrote as barbara michels, it's light reading, mystery with a romantic angle.
wow - learn something new - I did't know elizabeth peters and barbara michaels are the same person?
yup they are!
yes joey!
Speaking of Amelia, does anyone remember Ameliaranne and the Green Umbrella?
unbeweivable - as my nephew would say... thanks
franmag, what would be a good one of her books to start with ?
100 down...97 to go
going to have to give in - very tired, will be up early - get a few more before houseguests get up! Good night all
chj - my exact stats also.
me too, chj and joey
the first Amelia Peabody book - but I can never remember which one that is lol. Lion on the Sandbank? Ack. I always get their order mixed up
heavens, chj and joey!
lets race
not really..im going to bed soon
no, thanks...... oh, you are kidding?
guess nobody knows Ameliaranne :-(
i'm going to bed now - good night all!
ok, i'll add her name to my list of TO READ
nope, jillibus, never heard of her
night ping
joey..i see you visit ballparks as a hobby..ill you over when the mets finish their new park...in 2009 i think
oooo there's a lovely word in here - la7/40
longago kid's books -- utterly charming, very Brit
kierlex, sorry stepped away for a second. i would start with the first one.
chj - that would be awesome. I have been to about 20 majors and 10 or so minors. have a great time doing it.
ok, i found it on amazon and will see if my library has it
have you all tried paperbackswap.com??
ive only been to shea, yankee stadium and fenway
you'll love them, kier!
yes, i think you will too, lots of fun.
chj - get to PHL - it is beautiful. and camden yards is so cool because of where it is located. Seattle was my favorite though - can't beat the surroundings
got an la6/18 -- is the 7 related at all?
going to turn the chat off before you guys give it all away!! see you all later!
it's the noun version of an la6/18
jil - plural. if it is the same one that i have - used with fingerprints.
er the 7/40 is the noun version
diff one, I think, joey. Mine is what happened before.
there are two la 7s at least
i have 3 right now
going to dive in and stop chatting :-)
at6 clue anyone please?
in class you pay at----- (minus last 3 letters)

"Let me take your outdoor garment... let me deC4/5 you."
Whyisn't "cet" in the dictionary? There's a Dick Francis book called "Dead Cert", about horse racing in England
*not cet, cert
It's obvious, jilli. Enable can't read. No decent books anyway.
*sigh*
but those star tr4's are there
there, there, jill!
And thern there are such dumb words like that de
Our lives have won in significance ever since we have been able to complain about the enable dictionary.
nm - it wasn't really there and I mistyped -- oh dear. But that star tr** is legit
Yups, and its plural. There is hope for babble humanity yet.
can anyone help with the wo5/20?
even starbucks has a listing today!
I want wombat to be there.
tought i found tomato
I am stumped by the EN 6 and 7 and the ET 5. any ideas, folks?
en7 is plural of en 6 en 6 builds on cy 4
I want cygnet
be back later to play more good luck everyone
I still have some catching up to do before I can be of help, I am afraid.

I'll hold you, renfield. Don't be scared. We are all in it together. ((((renfield))))
ty, kateq!
it's okay sprite! I am feeling good about getting this far this fast... if I have to wait until tomorrow to finish, it will be just fine. :-)
et is like an abbreviation of word origins..
And we always have jilli to help us through the dark night!
just don;t forget out story stid!..you're beginning to be a habit with us.
thanks ,Roc... *thinking*
That was a really brilliant clue, Roc!
morning babblers
*grin* ren, that's why I am trying to get so far tonight -- so I can spend my hour tomorrow telling stories...
Morning Edonia.
hello Edonia
now now, sprite! I'm REALLY planning to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight! lol
morning edonia
morning, Edonia

sure jil...we see you in your jammies...and trying to leave your computer
Roc - great clue -- needed a little help from monkey
*wipes sweat off brow* got that ET. thanks again, Roc.
and again thanks!
down to 25!
ok i'm a noob. what's monkey?
I guess you can see these wispy but strong emanation from this computer, wrapping themselved gently around my pjs....oh wait, I'd better get into those pjs...
and fix my typing
LOL Jill! *yawn* sleepy vibes are pretty strong here as well.
Monkeytyping is when you keep trying all kinds of combinations in the hope you will stumble upon the right one.
oh. i do that all the time.
So do we, lol.
lol jil!
hello all
hi MVA!
Hi MVA
hey ya mva
yay fireworks
YAY Roc! (can't be that new! )
now back to the grid for a bit (yes, I WILL go to bed at a reasonable time)
woohoo roc dragon!!
WTG Roc!
YAY Roc!!! Noob? I don't think so. Genius? Maybe
my clock is missing that number "reasonable" on the dial
Congrats Roc.
yay roc!
Sure you will, jilli. Now let's discuss the word 'reasonable'.
reasonable by Aussie clocks doesn't count, Jill! LOL
hehe.. i'm a long-time player of boggle-type games. but fairly new to this one.
aw shucks, I guess I have a bit of a reputation

Sounds exciting, Roc ;)
it's really not...
she's 9 months pregnant
Roc, would you mind the second SY 6/30? I have all the other SY words...
And is she feeling alright?
well, I hope she (and you) are doing well with the pregnancy! such an exciting time
sy6/30 is a totally fake word. um...
oh boy, it's author day! Morning all.
take the first 3 letters from the previous words and the last 3 letters are a common internet address ending www.playbabble.---
Morning mab!
thanks, Roc!
woo-hoo! down to 14...
M, L and R words.... *wrinkles forehead* *squints*
Morning all, and thanks Roc.
she's been having a tough time sleeping lately. hip pains.. though she seems to be snoring deeply right now..
good morning, Sue!
morning mab!
oh, sprite, so glad you and hurshy got to meet.
oh mab, too! I didn't see you come in. *rubs at eyeballs*
Morning Stid. I have the Ms and Ls.
I never made it to 9 months, mine came 3 weeks early. And I really thought it was evacuation time indeed.
ren, brilliant icon
thanks roc, hope all is well
okay, I will ask when I figure out which ones I need, thanks Sue!
thanks mab.
she's been complaining that she wants it out asap. due date is around august 10th..
Why is that, mab?
you out-did yourself!
I need 8 MA words, all in a row, beginning with the one after plural latin mothers...
I sympathize with her completely, Roc. Hope she and you will be alright for the last stretch.
mab, please, let me in into the secret?
stidmama, that doesn't really m6/21, now does it?
why am I please that you and hurshy met? I guess because it's fun to know about babblers meeting, and because the two of your brains should really know one another a bit.
The 5/16 builds on the 4/5.
For the others think of what you would put on the floor and build from there. The eight is an odd word.
woo-hoo! that gave me all but TWO, thanks sprite.
I really enjoyed meeting hurshy. She is so nice and such a pleasure to talk with. Glad we made you glad, lol.
thanks Sue... *looking*
The MA 8/60 builds on the 6/24.
got it!
6 left... one MA and 5 L...
That gave me the 8. Strange indeed!
And thanks :)
I hope to meet hurshy this summer some time; we live relatively near one another.
Which MA Stid?
need the MA 8....
Still wondering about the 'out-did' part though, mab :)
no I don't, monkeyed it!
That would be nice, mab. I can recommendate meeting her!
which L's do you need?
FIVE to go, again in a row, the LA 5/10 that is opposite of "sooner" is the last one I have...
oh that! I was referring to ren's icon of Robert Louis Stevenson - pretty amazing artwork.
la5/10 = cappucino with more froth
Double the consonant and work from there Stid.
Ah, LOL! I really wondered what you meant. No wonder, since it wasn
got the LA 5/16, now just need four!
hello everyone
next 3 build off that
wasn't meant for me anyway :)
*grumble* HOW could I miss those? LOL thanks all!
Darn! Just got a mail from a friend that the rankings are embarrassing today. They are, LOL!
ONE to go!
oops time to go
no, sprite, I wasn't talking about how you and hurshy got into a wrestling match and you threw her in the canal. Those things do happen.
Night Roc, and thanks!
Now now, mab, did you have to tell the whole babble word about our little er.... discussion?
nite roc
good night Roc, thanks for all your help!
*babble worLd
firewords
I need to go to sleep if I am going to tell a story tomorrow. Can I help anyone before I go?
wtg stidmama! I love the firewords word :)
Hooray for Stid
Well done Sprite! I've got a problem with the rankings. Despite having completed the grid every day for over two months I'm at 1029. Dr_G agrees that it shouldn't be 1029 but doesn't know how to correct it. The totals are to pot too. I completed a 4000+ grid earlier this week and only went up by a few hundred.
Go to sleep, you stidmama! No fooling around with story quality time.
YAY stid!! Fantastic!!!!
yay stidmama!!
Well done Stid.
yay stid!!!!!
well done stid!
thanks all, will be back sometime tomorrow to do storytime...
*yawns and backs out of room clutching blankie*
I never understood those rankings and I hardly look at them. Strange, what you tell about the 'daily' rankings. Seems there are a few things in the setup of the site that aren't just that smooth.
sweet dreams, stid :)
we'll be here with our nap ma4/5 stid
Awwwww.... you are SO cute like that, stid :)
nite stid
maws
sorry
That's valid indeed :)
I only found out accidentally, Sprite. I was waiting for the flip and went to look to fill in time. They never bothered me when I thought they'd be right, but it annoys me knowing that they're wrong.
Oh, I can imagine! Knowing they are wrong and not knowing how that can be, that is mighty irritating.
I don't look at the rankings because I frequently, lately, don't finish the grid and it's not fun to see it decline. But wow, some people are hitting the stratosphere.
Mine are probably wrong too :)
annie and i found we wre not listed in the list of those who compelted the grid...so we decided we were twins and it wasn't really a rejection thingie...
You were right, renfield. It could NEVER be rejection with the two of you :)
it couldn't be - look at that face of yours! who could reject you?
Did you all find the nonword Ts5/20? Past tense of what we all say when jilli announces she will go to bed early tonight?
i know mab - such a sweet...honest....face?
glad I saw that, sprite!
:) jilli!
and I got it, too!
I would never want to gossip about you without you present, jilli :) Good you found that appropriate T!
oh sprite, you are here now. i just said hi to you at sudoku :p
Lol Onpaki, I have been long gone from sudoku. Hi right back to you :)
I know, sprite, and I love it!
i didn't know the time difference, u see.
I started at sudoku, seemed like I was the only one there. So I just finished and came here.
MVA you still here? like the icon?
Fireworks :)
congrats, Sprite
well done sprite! :D
I have 1 to go--the wo 5--and clues?
yay sprite!
*any
RocDragon had a great clue. Wo5 is like the first name of the writer of James and the Giant Peach.
ty
now I'm done too
WTG Kateq!
well--with help--
Everyone have a lovely Saturday!
That's part of the fun of this site, we can all use help every now and again :)
yay kateq!!
hurrah kateq!
I am off too, have a great day/night/whatever all of you :)
bye dear sprite - have a lovely day
l
nite sprite - and I'm really going now :-) zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
hoezit
sweet dreams jillibus....
I really can't decide whether I like this grid or not
it seems pretty tame
its odd though - so few vowels!
hi, anyone clues for the last st 7 pls?
the ya6 & 7 ?
if you have an st5, onpaki, add two letters to that. I don't know if that's the last st though. probably not.
i have several st5's :). u mean st 5/12?
Onpaki - the ya's are similar to ma6.21
i don't actually know... I just began and it's so late I'm a bit blinded. just ignore me.
st7/32 - take the st5/12 and make it your "friend"
thanks, lynxxx.
er, i'm actually looking for st7/36
st7/36 - 1st 3 letter of the word before + opp of early
sounds like it could be a Motown group
Thanks, Mitch!
Morning Everybody!
hello flask
morning flask
Hi Flask
only 4 vowels....this should be interesting!
how many words are there?
197
morning all :)

Nice to see you sherb and FMItch and everyone else. Sherb's here so it's the weekend....
yea, happy Saturdays
Oh Jaz!....I never realised you were in Ballymena......my father was born and bred in Strabane!
Maybe even Haz....lol
I still have family there!
Oh, I answer to just about anything, Flask. My husband even gets my name wrong sometimes - his sister is Helen! Do you come across now and again?
Haven't been over since before Dad died....that was 5 years ago......but I do love to be there.......for me its like going home!
Well, this past fortnight was more like the Continent than Ireland with the weather - but it looks to be cooling down now.
and not before time too!
does anyone have the am4/6?
not yet...sorry
am4/6 - wet nurse esp in India
thx mitch...thought i tried that..
Aren't you glad that's not your career choice....
lol..im a dd and i couldnt feed either of my kids...i have always said i was built for pleasure not business..
yw rolin... LOL Haz
Strange - I'm at the other end of the scale and could have opened a dairy.
my best friend breast fed her children for 18 months... and as a consequence her daughter has developed a fixation with women's breasts which is quite hilarious... for now at least...
18 months? That's dedication, or something!
i knew a woman who allowed her 3yo to reach for the breast...*shakes head*...a tad too far for my ideas
Phew finished the m's, the tt gets used so much!
I believe in breastfeeding but the worst that I have ever seen is a six year old breast feeding and there was a two year old too... beyond me
Hi Blaze
was it Little Britain that did the sketch with Geraldine James breast feeding her adult son?
morning Blaze :)
Fmitch hello to you... long time
Fmitch hello to you... long time
It has been! I've seen you on a couple of times but just as you were going.
two to go ts and ty5/16
that's me.... alwasys going.....LOL my keyboard is acting uop I thinnk I need to call it a night.
i have 4. ts is one of them too.
ts is a 'sound' word - past tense
ty5.16 sounds like a fork **** - past tense
Hi everyone, I woke up to see how many words there were, LOL. Now I can go back to sleep. Is it a hard grid?
197 words
Sorry, you knew that already. It's an okay grid so far.
Hey Everyone.
Hello at3skia
Well, I'll see everyone later. Going to catch a few more z's.
Fireworks time and bedtime too
Sleep well. And congratulations chj.

Congrats CHJ

morning Ata
am4/6 please?
morning Ata!

an old crossword clue you rarely see nowadays
Good morning Atalante. I've obviously missed out on the bottom words....

am4/6 morning + sigh of relief

How's Todays puzzle?
Morning Fran!
Hello Franmag.

hi fmitch!
thanks fmitch! that was sort of hidden, had the ho4/10 didn't see it turn up that way!
there is at least 6 words around that ho.
found the last one, thanks lynxxx!
oops - and then there is the australian type version
I'm having flashbacks to cold, windswept pitches, too- short skirts and aertex blouses. And communal showers...... I was a wimp at sport.
Our playing fields were inhabited by canada geese that pooped all over the pitches, so heaven help you if you fell over.
Standing round for ages, Haz - and then missing the ball when it came your way!
vicious game... yuck FMitch...
haz and ata, there's a st6/21 in between the 5/12 and 7/32.
TY fran
Thanks FranMag - I go looking
assuming i'm talking about the same st5/12 of course!
Yes you are! Thanks, I found the st 6.
yw haz, lynxxx!
here's a new one for me...sn5/20 and sn6/33, sn5 up, be silent; shut up; hold your peace
Where I live it's a latch - people who are always cadging off others are known as Sn5/20 lifters - because they're always looking in other people's houses to see what they can borrow.
yes sue, that was the other def, with up added it becomes kind of rude!
Good babble words both of them, my monkey found them for me.
It does, doesn't it, Fran?
:-)
growing up in the North East, we also used the sn5 word to mean latch... we left the front door 'off the sn5' so we could get back in...
That's it sherb!
us americans miss out on some great words!
I'm sure we do too, Fran.
I'm back, couldn't go back to sleep so I guess I'll just have to babble, lol
that bottom T is hiding, every time i think i've found it, it's actually another T! no clues please, still determined to find it!!
hi Ted!
It's really Penny, I picked papouted to honor my dad who passed away earlier this month.
Well, sadly I must take my leave for now, as I have other things to do, but hopefully I will be back later. Have a good day! (I've got that t, but you'll have to torture me before I tell you)
that's nice penny, i was just abbreviating. :-)
bye Haz
Bye, haz
bye haz! it would be torture for me to ask you for it!! :-)
fran, I know, I do that all the time too.
bye Haz... I'm off too... Waitrose calls... later all :)
Bye Haz.
I've got it too Fran if you want a hint
i found it!!
so have I, and I'm not telling :P
Bye Haz, see you later!!
st8/65 anyone please.... thank you
too late ata! i found it. i knew it had to be something dumb!
how dumb is it?
edonia, the guys that work at night in a grocery store.
very dumb!
penny, let's just say it's a dumb "sounding" word
duh....
thanks i am getting really tired
thank you
yw edonia!
oh, so it's one of those..I can't believe it's a word word
st8 is the plural of st7
lol yes Pappou
i am gonna take off happy babbling. thanks again Fran.... nite all or morning.... lol
night edonia!
I have the st 8/65. any clue for the other 8 please?
it's an ma8/60
It builds off the MA 6/24 and is an odd word.
ma 8/60 adj -ma 6/24
I have the ma 6/24 but I still don't get it.
Follow it through on the grid and look at the tile values - there's not too much else you can do.
add anther ending onto the 6, look at the top corner.
I'll hit it when I am more awake...going back to bed
thanks Fmitch and Suemagee..your clues helped me get the m 8
yw
You're welcome.
Morning all! Big one today?
197 Amanda.
Morning amanda, makes a change from all the little ones but it needs a bit of work.
aha there's 2 ma6/24! no wonder I couldnt get the 8 from the first one I had lol
Sorry Ata, should have realised!
Oops sorry, guess I should have said 2nd 6/24, but I know you like a challenge Ata!
np! worked it out - yay!
Oh, I thought it was going to be a huge one!
I am still on...Atalante, I have the ma6/24 that is a drink or deals with brewing...clue for the other ma 6/24 please.
Sometimes when hair needs brushing you might say it was MA****.
thanks!
You're welcome.
Morning - what's todays' grid like!
morning matty - 'tis good
Hi Matty - good but needs work.
We're off to renew daughter's passport today, so probably won't finish, sadly. If anyone here lives in SW London, the Richmond Informer this week reported on Sarah's 'wedding' - a double page spread, natch!

Morning Miy!!! wo5/20 - great clue from earlier "like the 1st name of the author of James & the Giant Peach"
Hurrah for F! It was a 'mock' wedding - part of RE and PSHE - the article is VERY funny, though.
I'm too old to know this book I think. Any other clue or shall I just look for a name - the WO5.20
Whew - had me scared there for a moment, Matty! (btw, you used a wo-ord)
woot! thanks Matty! and thanks for letting me onto it, Amanda... *roguish wink* 8D
OK, um - 1st 3 letters what you might say to a horse and then add 2 cons.
TY FMitch
lynxx, that author also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Ooops.......
Off to renew passport - maybe more later (hope so - I only have 15 words thus far!)
how many 8's? I've got an m and an s...
That all of then amanda
ohhhh, now that I have found it I do know that author !!
Is that author dead yet? (lawl. didn't mean for that to sound so roughish but I've never liked him as a writer ^^;)
I could have done with another small grid today, I don't have much time for babbling
ExWren...I'm lurving the icon 8D
I see you are in the grid again Ex****
Wikipedia says he died of leukemina in 1990. Sounds like he got quite unlikeable in his old age
don't we all...I lost a few of my friends by hacking false teeth over them, too. oooh, shower time beckons! 8D rubber-duckies a-go-go, ladies, and I shall see you later
Hello Everyone!

Great for you lmu!!!!!
ok, now what would YOU buy for your violin teachers birthday?
wooo hoo i.m.u.
tickets to a performance?
a gift certificate to the music store?
book on history of violins?
a bouquest of violeTs?
Earplugs? *ducks*
nah, she works at the music store, she would just buy what she wanted.
I love getting gift cards to restaurants for people
BAM! right on your head JAC!!!!
just kidding
kpbs website has a neat store for allthings ...like classical music or anything
I dont know what food she likes.
Ouch! *rubs lump on head*
she doesnt have internet so I cant get her a giftcard for an internet store.
or a bottle of wine. check out the signals.com website.
any clues for the w on the middle right?
the museum store.
oh, tickets to a museum?
love your pic, fig
Buttonman - Think Bugs Bunny - 'W... up doc?'
book store vouchers?
oh, come on, you guys are not helping. I gave NO idea what to get.
thanks. from the rockstarmsn website. i'm a sucker for htat show, even if it "reeks of trying to hard" as one critic said
I dont knowm if she gos to any bookstores, she just goes to the library.
what about going to some cool old book store and finding something really cool aboutg a favorite composer that is an out of print antique?
*Have*
then a cool old book would be PERFECT.
hmmm.... we dont really have bookstores around here.
around where?
what does she like apart from violins?
where we live.
amazon.com for you. i'm not kidding, the signals.com website might have something that would pique your interest.
WHERE is where you live?
I have NO clue what she likes, that is my problem.
shutter what country in?
hello, any one out there who can help me with clues for the w on the right side of the grid, PLEASE?
in south jersey.
USA
And internet access is not a problem these days -- it's at work, at school, and in libraries for free
what about going to an antique store and finding a neat old frame or something.
Buttonman - I've got another alternative spelling of a word from that 'w' - think of the opposite of 'loses'.
How about a pretty bunch of flowers or potted plant and a special card?
or a cool vase for flowers for the house. that's always a good one.
Buttonman - I did clue you before on the other word. See post at 10:53
well then just stick to something generic - restaurant vouchers - we have something here where you can use vouchers in a huge number of different restaurants so you don't have to choose the place for her - or flowers / chocolates - everyone likes those!
a plant would be awesome. something fragrant like lavendar, esp. in the hot summer would b enice.
THATS IT!!!!!!!! Flowers!!!!!
or an ice cream store gift certificate :-)
well, I gave my piano teacher chocolate.
i always like a plant better because it's longer lasting. like rosemary because it will last forever and has really cute blue flowers
I keep kidding saying I am going to give her one of our cats that I dont like.
can't go wrong with food.
thanks Jacula, got it. Somehow I missed your note.
well, I dont have a whole lot of money, so do go to overoard.
Buttonman - there are spellings for the Bug Bunny one.
There's always the one gift that is sure to please a teacher --- learning a piece on your own and surprising her with your performance!
*dont*
* meant 2 spellings.
smiles to ch1212
oh, ch, I always do that anyway.
what does 1212 mean? it's my birth hour and day..i have a 12 affinity.
shutterbug, how about baking her a cake?
mmm. cake
well, Kristin, that would be neat, but it would have to be a tiny one, because it is only here, she has no family.
fig, it has several meanings to me. It was my dear mom's birthday, it was the day I joined a recovery group for friends/family of alcoholics, and (this is VERY strange to remember) it happened to be the day I uh ... lost my virginity... decades ago :D. Hey, you asked!
*her*
well, YOU can share it with her. and a freezer works wonders.
cookies too.
ch: no worries. intersting story!
hmmm.... you guys just want me to do some work!!!! just kidding.
How about inviting her to dinner?
Home baked anything is always a wonderful treat!
WHAT? you're not a virgin? (shock!!!!).
that's what the freezer is for! cake for ever!
:D LOL fig! I better not be considering I'm 50 and have a 30 year old daughter!
LOL
:-)
I would love to invite her to dinner, but I am a youngster, so I dont really have money.
and besides, she probably wouldnt except the invitation.
got both spellings Jacula, thanks.
Any clues on the other two w's there?
OK flowers, a lovely card and a muffin with a candle in the top - problem solved.
shutter; a gift card anywhere is a nice thought. even if its' 20 bucks. and starbucks gc are a sweet thought.
button, do you have the birds?
fmitch has it good.
even if it's 10 bucks
alright, a nice card, and some flowers, maybe some cookies, done...!
Buttonman - like I said, alternative spelling for the opp. of 'loses'.
now, taking a break and going to get some lunch! I am SOOOO hungry.
see ya'll later.
No, i don't have the gbirds!
sorry birds!
Buttonman - the other 'w' is a herb used to make a yellow colouring - one name is Dyer's Weed.
The bird/s are off the other 'w'.
wr4/8 and pl for the birds (very small brown variety)
Hey Jacs - no more untoward visits to A&E today I hope!
FMitch - I've cut my finger on a broken vase. Only a little cut though. No A&E required.
Well that's something I suppose :) So long as you can still babble and not get blood on the keybaord LOL
I did go to hospital yeterday for an x-ray on my coccyx though! LOL.
Taking a break now. Got some washing up to do. BBL.

anyone have oc5/16
gee golly thanks std...it must be the benedryl talking - i'm soooo ultra conservative...right?
WO 5/20: the clue that got me that one is that it is just like the first name of author R**** Dahl -- who wrote Charlie and the Choclate Factory.
pab: it's eight.
fig, i used to live in San Diego...25 years!
oops,wrong one. sory
button: wow. who leaves san diego? weird. i'm new...ony 12 years here.

HELLO! GOODBYE! Than's a Beatle song. Anyway, I'v ****************FIREWORKS************ for today. See you tomorrow.
sure, live in college station, home of the Texas A & M University and loving it.
texas oh texas oh hail our mighty state
OC 5/16: starts like Latin "8" then ends in a chemical ending. I think it means "8 of a substance in a chemical formula*
OK, changed my profile - favourite author...
bye rumple

hurshy, it means, made a disapproving sound
Ya - what's that about the ts word...and Donnie Baseball - help us out those of us who live abroad?
if you can have the ts work past tense why not a ts word ending in er..someone who ts***s
ah, ok
famous yankee first baseman by the name of don mattingly
Yah - ah!
matty... just turn ma6 into adverb
matty, take your name, past tense it, then make it an adverb for the ma 8
That'll be it, nrkii, Hurshy, and CHJ...
Thanks
i'm having so much trouble with the E, i only have the shakespeary one

arrrghhhhh
hey ya fiz!
yes o'chita, i have 3 w's from the right and they are all 4 letters, a wa, wo, and wy...what is that other W?
fiz..where ya been
hurshy...do you have the wr5?
i have all the left ones, i just need one more from the right
well - I do have a life you know. today i had an exciting morning of washing curtains and windows. and since i used the "eco friendly" window stuff they look worse than they did before i cleaned them. yay.
wo5, wo4
wo5 it is then
think brrrr for the wo5
they were white..now theyre brown
they were white..now theyre brown
w...inter? *thinking*
fiz - the crew who cleans for us uses vinegar and newspaper to clean windows...
bunny wabbit might say it is wo5 in the winter
makes the house smell nice and fresh ill bet
lol, ok, ty o'chita
cleaning windows? what an intriguing idea
ack, i'm at the dreaded 14
my windows get washed when it rains...lol
like pickled somethings chj
hi hurshy!
i don't like pickled somethings. too mysterious.
hi stid
and it's free ouw!
my favorite joke from my childhood ended with the punchline "vindow vipers"
did I mention that I was cheap?
hello kiddies!
I just stopped by to let folks know that I have another short installment of my travel blog up at frappr.com/stidmama -- and now I have to go move hoses and make sure some of my plants survive the summer...
and the rest of the joke chj?
hey ya chic!
too long and not worth it
later! *disappears in a fog of gardening tools*
Hi ya Renny!
it's something about vipers at the door, and somebody's scared, and it turns out to be vindow vipers
thanks stidmama -- I'll go read it. I haven't had a chance yet but have read some of the others' comments about your wonderful story!
but to make a long story short, it starts out as a scary story about the eerie vipers and ends when you find out they were vindow vipers
arrrgh. computer not playing nice. did we get more of stid's story yesterday?
I don't think I'm gonna finish today's puzzle...
hurshy, you said the word of the creature!
afternoon all...any clues for the en 6 and 7?
a really cute clue earlier was, I en**** on thanking you (play on a different word)
Yah - I didn't get that clue...
viper is ok, it's only the sn word that's creepy.
and oh, that wasn't so much a clue, as just, me thanking nrkii for her clue
en + benign tumor
that's a clue
good one hursh
Thanks Hursh!
so you fear the word, not the animal.
no i fear both. vipers would be a no go if they were here. but only the one word is fearsome.
*frantically scans puzzle for scary sn word*
but actually i think i'm getting better. tommy has a pet one named mitch and i think if i visit them sometime again i will be courageous and go look at it.
no no fiz, not an sn word in the puzzle, mab just knows about my phobias
oh. got it - couldn't find it in the puzzle. note to self -refrain from using sn5 word in chat.
btw, hursh - click my icon.
lol :) how nice of you fiz
yay, the big blue bug!
hursh..are you a bruin?
fiz did you grow up in RI? where'd you go to HS if so?
a boston bruin?
snakes on a plane
a brown bruin
or brahmin?
Hurshy --- took me a while, but got the en..thanks.
no, i'm from pittsburgh. been here 10 years - in RI terms it's like i just moved here. my partner is from Rumfahd and went to wheeler, so i get tutored in localisms.
no, i went to williams. i'm very picky about names of colleges and could never attend one named for a color.
im sure min wears a bra but i dont think she online now
oh i just wondered cause we're about the same age and i thought, you never know, i might have been in math competitions against you or something :)
lol hursh - how about one named for a color *and* a slave importer....
that too. and then there's the toothpaste one...
so you went to one name for a red sox slugger
from what i hear about HS grades, i don't think you would have found laur in math competitions....
moon ri-ver, wider than a mile/ I'm crossing you in style someday...
no, it's named for ephraim williams
andy williams college
lol mab!
ephraim ..now that would be a great babble word
We're after the same rainbow's end, chasing round the bend, my huckleberry friend...
Hursh - where did you go to HS? i've got lots of RI native friends about our age...
eph's tomb is in the basement of the chapel and it has a marble door with a knocker. i always wondered why he needs a knocker if he's dead.
paul williams college for short singers
moon ri-ver and....
i went to coventry high
meeeeee....ooohhhh oooohh
:D
well, just in case....
it has the WORST alma ma5 in the world...
gotta say i don't know a lot of folks from coventry...know some who live there now but not who grew up there. sorry about that.
oh here's to coventry high, standing upright in the sky, as a symbol of our youth, obtaining knowledge, something and truth
ch1212 - are you done, or having a seizure?
no she's singing :)
:DD Mab and I were just rendering Andy Williams' "Moon River" :D!!
so did you attain knowledge, something, and truth?
LOL ch1212 - I thought you might be ooohing at fireworks.
I really wonder how many of us have Adult Attention Deficit Disorder the way our conversations bounce around! :D
hmm, i'll have to get back to you on that one fiz
can I get some clues for the a words, please?
ok - just put my brita pitcher down on my white tablecloth and it's growing GREEN ALGAE inside it - brb....
ah4/7, ma5/16!
lol. hurshy!
a kind of tree and pl, which is only one letter diff from the next pair meaning change/changes
a nurse/caretaker in india (i think)
some sort of chemistry sounding word am4/7
am** nitrate
an individual unit of an element, and an adjective based on it?
you know what would be a great word to have sometime, cygnet
you are right, hurshy...
about the nurse/caretaker thing or that cygnet would be a nice word to have?
the asian nurse was a frequent answer in the ny times crossword puzzle back in the 70's and 80's but since will shortz has been editor, he has eliminated most obscure words..like anoa--a celebes ox, which happens to part of will's email address
actually, both
I'm missing one A - an AT6/18... Etui still appears regularly in the NY Times crossword.
chj - have you considered a career as a jeopardy contestant?
chj--that's EXACTLY how I know that a word!!! The "good old days" of the NYT when I was way too young to get more than half of it done
oh yeah i forgot to clue that one, add what you camp in matty
Ta, Hurshy!
are you old enough now to finish them
LOL, yes, but I am not as smart as I once was, LOL
are you SERIOUS? you can re a fossil fuel but you can't recoat something that needs more paint?!?!?!
fiz..every one i know has urged me to apply for jeopardy
I can finish Mon-Wed, sometimes Thursday, only Friday with the Internet, and never Saturday.
again, hursh, agreed. That recoat crwled up my nack sideways this morning
did anyone do thursday puzzle?
chj - just checked your fav. author - very clever. my dad's from the bronx - left close to 40 years ago - and that's one of the words he still can't say
ok, up my back and crawled... must type more slowly
that and "Mathurs Vinyid" - an island off the coast of MA
I'll not be doing the NY Times puzzle til I go to the States in August - I just can't justify the cost of the International Herald Tribuine.
it was a takeoff on the famous 1996 election day puzzle where the clue was who would win the election that day and you could answer either CLINTON or BOBDOLE and both answers worked
That was a great puzzle!!!!!!
loved that one. what was this one, chj?
Matty--biz or pleasure trip to the states?
wow that is amazing
Wooo - how did that work? Pam - pleasure - visiting my family.
Long Guiland or elsewhere?
My mum's in Bucks County, PA (it's her birthday today), my brother in Princeton, but we hope to visit Long Guiland to visit a friend. She has a boat.
why is it that I see wombat in this grid? OY
this one had two long answers of EMPERORPENGUINS and DAILYNEWSPAPERS and another clue referred to these answers asking for a shade of color. You could put in either WHITE or BLACK and both worked
nice, matty
cool, chj. did you guys see "Wordplay"?
And it worked with the down clues? Cool. I'll ask my mum about it - I'll probably speak today. Anyone here anywhere near Bucks?
that sounds cool, chj
i saw wordplay at our local arts cinema and will shortz was there for a q & a afterwards
mayyt..you can subscribe to the nytimes puzzle online..only $35 for a year
wow..hpw dislexic am i
i'm thinking i should sign up. i let my subscription laps b/c it got too expensive for what i have time to read, but i miss the puzzle...
hi all my babbler friends - how's everyone today?
good evening everybody:)
matty became mayyt
I know...but I just can't justify it - I'd feel like I had to play every day. And yearly - and they take the money unless you tell 'em not to. High Deb...
ok - curtains dry - bbl. wish me luck!
deb ..mets up 2-0 in first but braves are threatening
chj - you can call me mayyt if you like - I've been called worse LOL
oh - wait - hi jean and debb - debb, has the weather cooled down for you?
hi, all, luck, Fiz
braves just scored - wright made an error
hi jean
lol pam!
Are the Mets still leading the NL East?
hi jean..how's your health
it has fiz- still mighty hot (90's) but SUCH an emprovement - this morning its really overcast - which is nice
8-)
yes matty!!
Cool - by lots?
mets are up by 12.5 games i think
I try not to notice how well they are doing, debb, so I don't jinx 'em
by 12 *i say knocking wood - been a met fan too long**
pam, are you a met fan?
Yep, in '69, when I was 9, my mom let me stay home from school to watch the World Series day games
in 86, I was sent to another room with a fellow traveler to watch that series
Need a clue on en6, please
you're right chj - and floridas in 2nd - go figure !! nice mom pam!! an loved the puzzle talk earlier - thursday puzzle was one of the great ones
you're a fan pam - i don't think you can jinx em!
I went to watch the 3rd game of the 86 series at Shea (Mets lost that gbame)
en plus a benign nodule, marc.
i actually attended all the playoff games in 73..including the famous fight between bud harrelson and pete rose
i was at the 6th game ....one to remember
le grande orange was one of my favorite mets
Wow, that is cool, chj
me too chj!!!
well, off to Old Saybrook--weekends, I am in Connecticut and not Beantown, so adieu!
is he sportscasting somewhere?
bye pam!!
i once got a piece of sod from yankee stadium after a series game against the dodgers in the 70's..a girlfriend's father was the pres of wpix which broadcast the games and they had a luxury box next to steinbrenner's
havent seen rusty on the tube for quite a while
CY - got the benign bumps (in fact, I have one on my arm, but that's probably too much information) - but stupid..stupid me. There just aren't that many possibilities...
chy - so funny - i got a piece of sod from shea when the mets clinched first in 69 - i was a little kid - and i still have it
wow..did you plant it or is it just dried grass now
chj - nice triple by endy
yes it was
in a lovely 1960's tupperware on a bookshelf
deb are you watching on the computer
whore the announcers
unfortunately today i listen on radio on the computer -- noone is broadcasting cause its on fox i guess.
that should read who're
yes..lou piniella sucks as an announcer
pam. sorry your clue is too obscure for my thick head, another please
(i understood) - i just realized i could listen to fan instead of the brave station
i hope el duque has a good game today
as do i - - bea arthur is hysterical
ty deb
hello again
back with 20 to go
Hi Nrk!
hi nrkii
marc, the en6 is the same as the cy 4/7 and the en is a prefix!
i couldnt think of just one author, so i opted for funny instead
I have a Terry Pratchett shelf on my bookshelf...and a Stephen King shelf...and a Larry Niven shelf....
Couldn't get en6 with the 'benign nodule' clue, anyone have another clue? Please
marc, did you get en plus cy4/7, and it's plural?
nrkii lay it on me girl..what do you need
MARC, the en6 is the cy4/7 with the en in front!
Thanks Mab, I was just spelling it wrong.
not sure yet chj, but will let you know
Will I need a fish for the de5/18?
Yep - give me the fish - got it!
whats with the bobble fingers today
bobble headed bleach blonde
okay, got mets game on and Lou is a horrible announcer!
the worst
MARC FREEMAN, the en6 is the cy 4/7 with the en as a prefix...and then you can plural both words.
re 5/16 help?
ren, i was reffering to jose reyes who just booted a potential dp ball
Tthe cy 4/7 is a knot that appears under the skin and can sometimes get infected and grow and need to be removed.
adjective of a color
hey there!
we can;t get the mets or the yanks today on any tv station!
damn 3-3
adverb, thansk!
Neither can I (LOL). Can get cricket, though!
hi feather!
thanks*
hi feather :)
thats what i meant sorry
hey ya feather
i'm not playing today, just saying hello. at a friend's house on vacation! she's at a birthday party, we came home early to give daniel his nap, so i have only an hour
:)

cricket rocks!
off doing quote puzzler at the moment
feather, I got a phone call during quote puzzler -- aaaargh!!!
MARC, did you work out the en6 yet?
oh no!!!! that stinks!
i was doing great on secret word, but didn't realize i was missing a letter, so that made it a teensy bit harder. :)
it was my mom, and I think she did it on purpose
ugh - i just get a phone call for 5 minutes and WHAT happened
feather, I hate it when that happens, lol
hehe, i bet she did! trying to beat you!
love the sound of crickets at night
k, brv
brb*
my first hours in england were spent learning the rukes of cricket..we had just taken the ferry from ostend to dover and were driving to london when we stumbled on a local cricket match with one elderly spectator who was kind enough to explain all the rules..we were hooked
Oooh - my husband would tell you off - they are LAWS of cricket, not rules LOL!
dont do that again deb
you and bea?
sorry matty
No worries to me, chj - hope you realise I was only ribbing slightly...
loduca on with a single
yes mab
so annoying that the radio is like a 30 second delay
matty, you are in today's grid, and I almost am too
Where's your name from, nrkii?
arrrgg.. a dp
loduca is doing great
nrk = my initials
ii = the second
crickets don't abide by any laws, sillies. they function purely on instinct. :)
that would make me chjii
Mine's a song...
(I was the second nrk that my college friend knew, so he named me nrkii instead of nrk)
i sing that song every time i see your name appears
"A holiday, a holiday and the first one of the year..."
chj is married to bea arthur. isn't that interesting? she's so talented.
isshe still alive?
ah4/7 ren. I smile whenever i see your icon.
bea is your wife chj?
she's your wife, you ought to know.
yes, ren.
sorry im single
I love all the nautical words we've seen the last few days since I got back from sailing!
ah me beauty - ye've a stiking smile yer self
hmm, very confusing chj.
if im gonna marry someone named bea it would be aunt bea
or bea benederet
oh no - he's out of the game?
or was it that arthur godfry was your father in law?
my parent's house keeper is named bea
or that arthur arthur is my favorite movie
Aunt Bea was very mean when the camera wasn't rolling. Andy whosis didn't like her at all.
is that so mab?
go julio..just stole second and went to third on error
et 5 help please?
that's what Andy Griffith has said.
she loved cats, but was not fun to work with. or so the same andy whosit said
she was probably so mean that she couldn't get acting jobs and so went into housekeeping.
opie's had some career..mow i see his daughter is in this lady in the lake movie
hahahaha mab!...also describes my parent's housekeeper
that looks like a really scary movie!
opie seems so well-adjusted for one who was a child actor. and such a successful director.
Opie was Ron Howard, yes?
no help? :(
I think he still is :)
wasn't his dad a western movie actor?
well, his whole family are actors..his father..his brother, his daughter
and his bro was that realy strange looking kid on that bear tv show?
I don't have the et yet.
sorry nrkii et5..is a short form of the origin of words
sorry to seem as if ignoring you nrkii.

i don't know
evening all, has anyone had trouble with the chat log.
i did earlier oggy
hi oggy. I've had no problems thus far.
night shift..with henry winkler and michael keaton about working in a morgue
who's father was on seinfeld?
rance howard, ron's dad was in a few seinfelds..off the top of my head, he was in the one where kramer and newman were trying to return empties to michigan and newman wound up at a farmhouse with an attractive daughter ..rance was the father
There are TWELVE Y words?!
Rance Howard was a body switching (nearly used a word) bad guy in Angel.
ohhhhh... I did not know that (Johnny Carson)
i will not start the grid i will not start the grid i will not start the grid....
he was also in the one where george got new eyecglasses and hes in the health club helping a blind man..that's ron's dad
how likely is that feather?
poor feather! It's nearly impossible to resist...
uh oh, daniel's waking, decision made for me!
and yes i think he was originally in a lot of westerns
.....then again, he settled down again
phew. too hot for housework...
lol, nah, i can't. if i start it, then i HAVE to finish it (in my mind) and i can't possibly do that in a half hour!
i see. i really dislike westerns, so i've probably not seen him.
ok - so rance howard settled down again?
Gwan, start it - you know you want to....
oh come on feather, just one little word. what could it hurt? don't want you to slip into a co 4/6
lol, knitter, you're an enabler!
you too matty!
aknitter! you siren you
oh come on feather....it's just one bite out of an apple. how bad can it be?
who's on de4/10 for the game?
hello - everyone staying cool?
rons brother clint was also in a seinfeld..when kramer went to california and jerry and george are in a cop car and then a theif is put in with them..that was clint howard

Go on - even the st8 is not too hard...there's a good st5/20 of words here...
oh wait that's all that really ma 7/32 is that you have soem fun
"resistance is futile" ????
ah 4/7 ma 5/16 feather, yous till there?
"all the cool kids are babbling!" lol
of course we wouldn't en6....
you got it, feather...
Can someone please clue the oc5/12 - I have the second, but not the first...
you guys do realize that i'm looking for every word in the grid as you say them, i'm sure
our ha 4/5 are off to you if you can resist!
we might wr 5 your day though
The co 4/9 will then gather wih the rest of the st 5/20
well, maybe all the really nerdy word kids... but we're cool in a special way.
fea?
come on, ma 4/5, we'll get you started...
loduca again..good hustle..makes ita double
feather care to clue the oc 5/12?
he's on fire
if i came in an hour ago, maybe, but they're due home in 20 minutes, and we're going to a party next door.
I think you'll find that's the point - We won't charge you re4/4 to st4/8 your troubles for a while - We're all in sy4/7 and so you won't be ts5/20 here...
loving him - great acquisition
gaet yourself a la 5/10 and sit down
loduca to you to chj. mazel tov.
is the oc5/12 part of a group of 8?
Feather, would you kindly clue the oc5/12?
but i still love piazza
me too
hit no. 16 the other night..hitting .300
glad he's having a pretty good year
I have that 5/12 - I need one before it...I have one meaning eight players in chamber music (for example)
ill never forget the first game after 9/11 when he won it with a home run
matty the other sounds like a chemical thingy -- oc + 3 other letters in a diagonal, include the sometimes vowel
i stink at clues -- sorry, better at tourmenting people
i was a beautiful thing
so, feather, have we won you over? i've got a good story, too, if that will help...
or his battles with clemens..the thug
clue for oc5 please. its one of the last three
lol, nope, still holding fast. i am trying to guess the oc5/12, but it's hard when you don't know if you're right or not.
oooh, that is a dirty bad word chj - i hate him
Well, type it into the Add Word box, and you'll know...
lol, shhh! don't let my wayward fingers hear you!
lol matty.
Knitter, I have that one - I'm after an oc12...but not the group of eight.
some of you may know my theory that if you let enough cat hair build up in one place, it will spring spontaneously to life.
Got it - same root, but different last latter.
did it work yet fiz?
matty that's all i have so far, sorry
hello everyone!
I now have all the OCs (thank goodness for Jumble)
Hi Fran!
and make a new cat, right fiz? This last year I collected the fur I brushd off of Merp and a friend spun it and made it into Merp mitten for me.
and does that work for brown curtains too
fran!!!
hey ya fran
got it thanks
feather!!!
go look at how they're tormenting me!
well, i've been conducting a scientific experiment in my house for some time now. I've always believed that eventually enough heat and pressure will build up, like in a nebula, and a new cat will walk out.
are they trying to drag you in? hey rennie!
hi fran :)
we we're tormenting -we were gicing clues!
I believe that rubber bands are the larval stage of wire coat hangars.
hi fran - good morning
feather if you had started typing in words when you'd first come in you'd be almost done by now!!!
hi debb!
heh, you may be right knitter
eva - just one mitten?
RE words now. Yuck.
i think you're onto something. If you collect enough dust from all th skin cells sloughing off, is that where zombies come from?
i'm hating them too matty
fiz ever look at the orion nebula thru binocs..birthpalce of stars
hi matty!
feather, do you like ho 6/42 or just baseball? (looks for ways to slip in tempting clues)
makes sense, eva.
A couple of hours ago, I said I wouldn't finish. I have 48 left.
neither, i prefer cycling and football!
i need 5 more words. too bad you can't play feather! this was a good grid.
zombies come from a bartender
No Fiz....two mittens, just forgot the s. But the really good fur harvesting time is in the transition into the hot weather.
ohhhhh, the killer blow fran!
HA!! now you know another word, might as well type it in, why waste it
i have 13 and am stuck -
et5/16 anyone?
dang it....
C'mon Feather - the water's fine - and you can always come back la5/10
heh, heh...it wasn't meant to be feather!
what do you need deb
now i'm all wet and covered in letters
c'mon feather - you'd probably have more than me by now
my cats - both champion shedders - like to sit in the windows and look out at the world they don't get to experience.
lol feather!!
so - today i took down my curtains to wash them. usually, i use the lint brush on them before i toss them in the washer, but i just took 'em down and tossed 'em in today.
theyre gaining knowledge for their other eight lives
i'm saving all my cats' fur. going to spin it into yarn and knit free-ranging organic cat sweaters.
uh oh, what did your washer look like?
knitting, did someone mention knitting???
great..sweaters that will ignore you
funny chj!
lol mab and chj!
sweaters that will lie all around the house, drape themselves over chairs ...
Hi all. I'm back for a bit more. 10 to go...
These RE words are going to KILL me. I have five so far - two that I would know what they mean if they started with W, one that sounds like your back passage, and two involving charging money for borrowing something.
hi jac! 5 here
17 to go and the brain has crashed
well, I think heat and spinning were the missing ingredients in my experiment.
hi jac
167 here....
167 here....
How about sewaters that will lie in the middle of doorways or narrow passages and then get up as you go to step over them, thus tripping you over?
HA Feather!
*sweaters
Can't type today!:(
lol mistress!
lol jac, sounds about right
When i opened the dryer door, I swear that a little half formed kitty homonculous lept out of the lint trap, staggered around on the floor, and collapsed into a normal pile of dust.
matty, re6/21, add more fuel to the furnace.
and I only dryed them on LOW!
lol fiz!
You shouldn't put the cats in the dryer. They clog up the lint tray, and don't like it much.
i guess no one has that et5/16?
Oooh, Fran - got the solid fuel one now.
matty, you want a couple more of your back passage sounding words
oh my this is getting bad
LOL Fiz. The cat hair then sticks itself in little balls all over the next things you wash dry in there. You may THINK you've got it all... but it hides from you.
hi hurshy!
i think et5/16 must relate to origins of words...
hi fran :)
Try sitting down on the sofa in black trousers...when you have a tabby and white cat.
Franmag - et5/16 is ET asking his little mom a question.
matty, you also need... not brownly or greenly or yellowly...
i wear balck clothes with black cat fur that mysteriously turns white during very imporatnt meetings
just got it! thanks hursh and jac!
I do have a tabby and white cat, Matty. (And a black one.)
i had been using the right letters in the wrong way!
i've got 4 cats, and a dog. the hair never quits.
sound slike a dr hook song fran
thanks hursh, needed that re you clued matty too. that's not a real word!
Hurshy, thanks - I did need that one. We used to have Komondor - big white dogs. Nightmare hairwise.
mets have a rally going
i hear - nice - go valentin
you're right renfield! must have been in my head someplace!
I now need another back passage word...watch this space....
(NOT the back passage space, mind you, but the chat box...)
thanks for everyone helping matty with the re's - i needed most and now have em
oh, um, all cat folks, i have 3, and may i highly highly recommend the petmate pet hair magnet, available for around $7-10 US from many fine internet retailers... it is the greatest invention ever
WHAT are you guys talking about with the back passage clues?
your pooping canal, featherbee
re words feather! there are 3 that all start the same.
Your re6/21 passage - where a proctologist might stick his finger...
plural, adjectival, and a five with a diff vowel ending
is that the sort of spongy thing hurshy?
ohh! re words! i see now....
oooh matty, we don't want to hear that!!
no mab, it's hard plastic
ren..i think you mean dr john
real name is amc rebenac or something
yea two runs in
it's great because it uses no electricity or batteries, but unlike the sticky lint brushes also never needs replacing. the cost of buying it is the entire cost and it never wears out!
that was mac rebenac
Sorry Fran!
sorry, everyone - i should have known that "go sit down, I'll hang that last curtain" would in fact mean, "I'll creat a big disaster that will take you longer to fix than it would have taken you to do it yourself"
oh i think you are right chj....see - i told you i was a clash fan
Hi everyone! Missed the flip last night....
Hi everyone! Missed the flip last night....
Sorry fran
if you google petmate hair magnet, you will see it, or if you prefer to buy from well known sources, amazon sells it
Sorry fran Testing testing 1223
sounds wonderful; wil check it out at one of the fine local retailers.
very nice - i'm thinking they should play chavez more - he hustles, hes fast - i really like him ---
hursh - i've thought about getting that but i've always thought it was a scam since i saw it first in an infomercial
hi muse!
hi Fran!
walmart might have it... and i'm sure petco and that sort of place would have it
hello myuse
it's okay matty, i'm not really offended.
Hi muse!
el duque!
hi debb!
hey ya mymuse
oh, it's no scam, it works really well and i love the no-additional-costs feature. and only $7-10 bucks, as i said!
i got to do quote puzzler today fran, i'm happy!
Hi matty and ren!!
sy6/30 that isn't like a group of competitive swimmers?
hello feather!
i feel it is one of the best purchases a cat owner can make.
el duque is some slugger
yay feather!
hey muse!
*feels like she is watching an infomercial* If I call now do I get 2 for no additional cost - just pay aditional shipping?
we'll take it!!
"batteries not included......"
love endy deb
lol fiz - it's one of my quirks, when i like a product, i promote it heavily. i feel it is part of my gratitude.
some assembly required
ren..dr hook did cover of the rolling stone
have i mentioned tropicana smoothies and edy's whole fruit sorbet?? :)
hursh - check out bzzagent.com
I was off trying to put a pic of my 2 cats together on my profile. Couldn't 'cos file's too large and I don't have time to mess about with the pics at present. Anyway, I came back, scrolled through the chatlog and got the cat magnet and the bum prober confused. I wondered what the heck proctologists DO in the States. LOL.
Hurshy, you should join Ciao and Dooyoo - I wrote a review of this very site for both sites - if you want to join Ciao, let me know and I'll give you my referal link. You get paid for both!
love edy''s sorbet.
Hi Jac.
can you figure out why he's not starting instead of nady??

socks have always been a very imporant part of my life...shoes not so much - i go to the store in my socks..do i really have to wash them?
marc, you've got great st**e + consumed
No, but truthfully she wouldn't either. She has the same deal with pens as well. I do go over the top now and then and married a minimalist. I just drive her crazy and then sit back and laugh. Sometimes I guess I am just mean. But I love her and that is what counts.
but ren, is there no sign that says "no shoes, no shirt, no service"?
i limp
Thanks Fran got it.
yw marc.
I wore tights. but then a friend introduced me to socks and I found them quite freeing.
i've always wanted to test that sign out, i was thinking of testng out the no shirt part of the line.
Awwww. Marc, that's sweet - and true.
Well, going from that sign, you could quite happily go in without pants....
ren..do you wear a sock on your pegleg
nut - maybe you'll get free stuff that way. but what will you do with your pens?
lol marry!

help with ya6,24
bubba, rhymes with the ma6/21
one of the many things I enjoy about getting older is the dwindling of the need to be cool. Socks were just not cool. Now I have a collection that includes moose socks, and even (gasp) wear socks with my sandals to stretch out sandal time. Same thing with mitten which are so, so much better than gloves but definitely not cool
It's similar to the ma6/21 - just change the first letter.
bubba - does it really ma 6/21?
or a retractable knife..ala rosa kleb in from russia with love
just like your ma6, bubba.
Got to go, thanks and best to all only 13 left and will get them later.

miya - that you? didn't think they let guns in the UK...
miya - doesn't go well with those lyrics you tell us about, you know putting sexual desire in the soup or some such stuff.
*giggles* Fiz, noooo~ that's a GUY XD his name: Daigo Stardust. his mission in life: to be as camp as possible.
Can't play much now but managed fireworks today at last
congrats, spelli! good to see you!
That was a nice one - pity its over now - fireworks for me too
you mean it's not that goofy miyavi bloke?
*spellit
just kidding miya. looks like he's well on his way to achieving his mission.
lawl, Eva ^^ that's my scary musical tastes coming out. but my vowboy here represents the pop-rock side, where they sing about space cowboys...and, er, kittens
Cheers Une
LMAO, Fiz... you have no idea XD

ooops sorry
Fiz, really?! my respect has now officially been earnt...
yay spellit and lynxxx!
drag queens are great! i've been dying to get my husband to be one for halloween.
http://i7.tinypic.com/21cimi0.jpg - Eva, Miyavi's the one who is humping the leg of Daigo Stardust...XD they're both in that picture
*wuvs her boys*
ts is past tense and starts with 3 consonants
i just like to pick on miyas taste in men as mine run to the great lumberjack types.

well done caelle!
'ray for Caelle
lol. but I bear no responsibility for the content of that picture. They are very highly sexually charged men O.o
*tries to picture nuts lumberjack husband in drag - comes up with tim curry in rocky horror*
HANDSOME lumberjacks - i should put my lumberjack up the profile
stillings, change last letter to a vowel
starts with same 4 letters... ce5/12
wtg caelle
oh fiz, he would be the most revolting drage queen ever - it would be brilliant.
hi again
hi saphyre
hi saphyre and others whom i've missed. i was stuck in my own head for a moment....
really fiz, get you're head outta your a.....

*nods defiantly*
*watches fiz's head in her...*
(oh yeah...I'm so tough 8D)
yeah miya, you're hardcore
*does adult party trick for nut*
hello all!
hi stid
ewwwwwwwwww!!! - did you learn that at that jobe you mentioned befre?
hi saphyre. Done yet?
*blushes at being caught by stidmama*
hi stid
yeah finished a few hours after the flip
how about you?
*looks strangely at Fiz and sighs*
hi stid
hi oggy! it's not raining here... they promised me rain... :-(
oh sure, blushes for stid, but gives me nasea without thinking twice!
careful miya...you are going to hurt yourself
what the...*blinks* EVA! Did I detect a hint of SARCASM?
hi muse! pretty icon.
shhh, Miyavi -- Nut never is sarcastic!
thx stif
oops stid lol!
i don't even know the definition of the word.
nut, you brought it on yourself.
so stid what is your favorite series by P Anthony
stid its pouring down here.
fiz - that was like total harassment! i'm not even going to be able to sleep because i won't be able to wipe that virtual image from my mind. i should tell that cowboy hat a wearin partner of yours of your behavior.
in which case... *preens* Yes, I am rather hardcore, aren't I? Live hard, die hard, that's my motto...er...yes *coughs*
Well, I really like the Incarnations of Immortality -- just for the irreverence and interesting ways he pulled many belief systems into that one. Xanth, of course, they are hilarious. And he wrote another series The Blue Adept? Haven't read those in years, but they were really interesting when I was in high school at least...
oh, come on, Eva. you enjoyed it really...
*holds up hands in shape of W* Nut, let me remind you - lumberjack in drag - i won't be sleeping, either...
well oggy -- save some for my side of the world. :-)
I like the incarnations the best myself
*heads over to grid in a huff*
Xanth is just silly good reading
okay fiz - you have a very valid point...
Adept was great - but so was phase
*thinks to herself she is glad she came in toward the end of Nut and Fiz's conversation....*
and i rarely cede points mind you ;-D
*folds huff neatly and puts it away for later*
Is Phase the ones that are in outer space? I remember one, Viscous Circle, that was part of another series I enjoyed, but again it's been well over a decade since I read those.
*loops arm through stids* - so, are you sleeping well at night or imagining your next chapter?
but i'm going to be quiet for a little while b/c i've gotten pathetically few words thus far. and i still have to read mama's chapter from yesterday.
Sleeping well *and* dreaming up next chapter, actually!
go Fiz go!
no - phase was about a guy traveling through different plains of time - and of course had a girl and her horse for good measure
oh fiz, watch out for that step!
OH! I had completely forgotten about those, saphyre! I really must get my life pulled back together and spend some time in fantasies not of my own making...
lol
*tumble tumble tumble* *raises head weakly* I'm ok, i'm ok...
he also wrote a book dedicated to his daughter about american indians that was quite good
My current fantasy, of course, is that I live in a lovely, well-kept house with a lovely, flourishing garden... and lovely, well-behaved children (who are finally home from camp).
my fantasy sounds a lot like yours but my kids are all in college or law school now
my fantasy is that i can have my 20 year old life back
*hands stid keys to barbie dream house*
stid, and what about hubby.
can I have the pink corvette Fiz?
*heads off to pull large quantities of fur off of the dog*
oh - my hubby is no fantasy! He really is wonderful! :-)
ah well oggy - that would be complicated wouldn't it?
Stid, that's no fantasy,at least as far as well-behaved children is concerned. And I'm sure your home and garden, like yourself, are ordered and sweet
*gratefully takes keys from Fiz* thanks!
hi hetty
LOL hetty! well, sweet... but really my housekeeping is atrocious, and worse since I discovered Babble of course!
glad you're back online, hetty! Is Alan off on another adventure yet?
hi hetty
*hands saph the garage door opener*
thanks Fiz :)
Hi saphyre, hi everyone. This grid is turning out to be fun--except I'm stuck (as so often) in the re's
well I'm here to clue if you need any
I am going to take a nap and then we are off to spend the afternoon and have dinner with Mother. Is it okay with folks if I tell the next chapter tonight about 10:00 grid time?
sounds good Stid - enjoy your nap & rest of the day
and like you, Stid, I have a super husband--more reliable than my comouter (which is restored pro tem)
okay, I will be here promptly at ten-ish (ha-ha figure that one out if you can!) and tell the next chapter... toodles, all!
Love to your dear mom, Stid, and enjoy the family dinner. I'll look forward to more story spinning this evening

mo - a noise someone might have made if they were a little irritated by someone or something.
Good evening, jean.
bye everyone
'Bye saphyre.
ts5/20 anyone please
Mo - I just clued it for you.
Mo - if my clue doesn't help, the word sounds a bit like and ivoried elephant with a bit missing.
*an ivoried
past tense of a quizative word minus with a t in place of the innitial vowel
forget the minus in that
ty, Jacula.

Angb what word was your clue for?Was it for wo5/20
Yes - sorry
womal
magzel - en + c4/7
You are close magzet
Lose the middle consonant and another to the end
John August wrote Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.
The guy Angb is thinking of wrote James & The Giant Peach.
And a book called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Maybe there's 2 books called that. How wierd.

Had me searching in my son's bedroom
LOL Angb.
oc5/12 #1 is an 8pc orchestra
magzel, think of the first name of McDonald's mascot, change the first letter, and subtract the middle consonant.
Magzel - wrong box again!
Gwenski - good one.
oc5/12 #2 is the first 3 letters of the 10th month + first vowel + L
have that 5/12 thanks, need the one before that one
(and, actually, i switched the order - sorry)
Can anyone tell me if ya 6/24 has anything to do with ya 4/7.?
wo5 - someone clued earlier "how a bunny wabbit might describe winter. brrr."
wo5 is another spelling for a plant more commonly used to make blue warpaint as worn by the Ancient Britons.

What people do over the garden fence but change the first letter
Thanks Fiz
not *that* bad, shade
all right - I'm going for it
yw flosey. anyone need more clues?
No, this one's not bad. A lot of words build on other words. In 40 minutes, I've gotten 140 words. And I'm not the best player.
OK last word - ye 5/14. Any hints?
te6/12
flosey think of the earth's plates
...well, I'm going for it once I finish the sudoku for the day.
ye 5/14 is a yiddish word for a gossip or matchmaker. it was in the puzzle the other day ending in A, today ending in E
no, scratch that - the other day ending in E, today ending in A. or something like that. Hebrew doesn't have vowels so it gets confusing....
flosey do you have the 5/12? add a consonant to it...
You're a marvel fiz. I can now start my day. Aahh it's alrady 10.45am!!!! Fireworks
Bye all and thanks for the help
Congrats, Angb and bye!

gwen, have you got the et5/16 yet?
add sometimes vowel to the particle at 4/5, bittong
gwen, plural the previous word, the la6/18
hi helen
ooops, didn't read far enough gwen
wow, halfway home
hmm, i didn't even know there were 12 words that started with y.
Trust me, flosey, I tried several times to pluralize the one I have!
Now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
ahh, ty LeslieAnn
HI everyone, back from a lovely day at the beach, clues for the 8's please
wow, shade should do PSAs
la5/10 add cons. then la6/18 pluralize

Well -- let's see. We had just finished the twins and what they found under the cart.
Clues can be given during the story but interruptions must be brief.
os so this is not the begining?
Meanwhile, the eldest brother and his family were approaching the town.
i didn't get to read chapters 2 oor 3...what did they find?
*picks up knitting to listen*
And the mother and the father were walking along home from the Inn.

HFLady - you can ask for clues but keep it brief and concise.
A rabbit hopped across the dusty street and a bat fluttered between the trees.
The father followed his wife's gaze, and paused, uncertain.

Midway between them, their home stood, a welcoming lamp lit on the now dark porch and the glow of the living room sweeping the path to the street.
*rubs jilli's back and hands her a beanbag chair*
*hugs jilli and tells her not to fret as the story will be in BabAnon later.*
*smiles at the listeners*
*smiles back at stid*
The wife looked up with loving eyes and smiled. "It's okay," she whispered, "He's so much like you."
half listening (pouty face as i really want to listen bu i got up late)
*waaa, wanna hear it all NOWWW!
And the young man looked up and squinted into the dim street.
(Jill, do you need a time out?)
HFLady - multitask!
*takes jilli into the other room until she can settle down - with stack of Dr Seuss books*
Jilli - we'll ignore your tantrum and just hold you so tight you can't hardly breathe. Now BEHAVE!:-)
He recognized his mother's shadow. The man's shape looked familiar...
*but I want STID sories and my supper!!
He drew his own wife a little closer, and they continued on.
*stamps foot and sulks
*takes jilli firmly by the hand and walks her to BabAnon* I think you need a meeting, jilli....
jilli, you and i can read the end together later, and share a blanket and some snacks while we read, if it's ok with you
*shoves a wad of cheese on toast into Jilli's mouth whilst still holding her tightly.*
admitting you have a problem is the first step...
They met in front of the house and stood for a moment, trying to decide what to say.
hi, my name is Fran and i'm a BabbleHolic.
"hi fran"
*hmpf, feather, well ok, snuggles, gets up, goes to make supper, mumbling
ty's?
Inside the house, the three older girls were making a stew for dinner while the youngest set the table. The boys had put the treasure back in the box in the bucket; but they put the little bird on the mantlepiece.

The youngest boy walked out to the stable and made sure the donkey and other animals had water for the night.
*pouts and sits down*
thank feather, *gobbling as fast as i can*
Marionberries are likie boysenberries--fancy blackberries. Marionberries are about the size of your thumb in length and circumfrence. Stidmama is quite a storyteller. I'm so pround.
*offers temple owl the first bowl*
Ah! Just looked it up. It's a type of blackberry.
Hi gmere!
The sun was now well down, and the sky was fading from light gray to dark purple. Quiet sounds and wafts of cooking came from all over the village.

*smiles at Mother*
Stids are multiplying! hi there stidgmere!

The young man walked slowly to his parents and looked questioningly at his mother. He gestured to the stranger --

Hello Ping *said in a low whisper*.

The young man looked at his father -- at the careworn face, the grizzled beard, the tattered clothes. And finally, he looked down at the hand stretched toward him in tentative welcome.
[yes, feather, and hi annie and jac]
points ping to pile of extra pillows, carpet squares, and beanbag chairs*
*waves at ping*
*hi ping.*

Jacula, we must be proper--or at least have the appearance of propriety.
(hi stidmatt)
Stidmama - This is the trouble with trying to tell stories to big kids. They keep interrupting. However, keep on keeping on...
the whole fandamily, eh, stid?
It was a strong hand, but old. It was scarred from use, and the fingers were bent from injury. It was a familiar hand, and a warm hand.
hi stidmatt - gardengirl - fiz
hi stidmatt
The young man grasped it firmly, then wrapped his arms around his father and let the tears fall.
Hi ping! Hi Anniebrook!

His mother held the baby, his wife stood silently, waiting.

*unable to resist shouting at jacula* I'll Swallow Your Soul!
The two women, each in her way, had a peace about her, a sense that, one way or another, things always worked out. And a strength -- or rather a fearlessness -- that allowed them to face whatever life brought.
(ts5/20 at fiz...keep it down!)
*removes thumb from mouth* (stidfamily -- welcome - theme today is favourite author -- must change my icon to stidmama
The horse that had been drawing the cart all day tapped his hooves on the cobbles in the lane.

HI JILL!!!
*waves franticley*
The horse nickered softly, and shook it's neck, jiggling the reins.
Hey there, matt
good night feather.
'night feather!
Jilli - don't forget that since I know you are a pensioner going back to her toddler tantrum years,I still have you in a tight but loving grip.
jilli - is the icon you?
*whispers one last goodnight, and trails slowly out the door, trying to catch a few words on the way out*
night feather
Oh, snookums jacula
The twins heard the horse, and came out on the porch. The recognized their brother and his family, and the stranger who had given them the cart, and their Mother.
jilli! :D
no, melon, it's PD James -lol!
*warm feeling at intergenerational community in babbleland*
Caught you good and proper there, Jilli. Now let's listen to the story, shall we? *stern look on face*
They walked down the steps and quietly lifted their niece and nephew out of the cart and carried them indoors, still asleep.
(jilli, i like p.d. james too)
*whispers (good for you ping)
goosebumps
Is intergenerational actually a word? That'd be a good Babblescore! *sits down again. Sorry, MamaStid!*
To Fran, Eastern, and Jacula - ty - think the problem is using Mozilla - Google works better for me. Thx for helping!
The man looked at his daugher-in-law and smiled. "I knew my son would find a good wife. I am glad it is you," and he hugged her, and his son.
Mom! check the Webster's dictionary! It's in the room your in!
*quietly slips out of the room without attracting attention. Good night.*
'Night gmere!
Matt! Do not interupt your Mother! LOL.
*writes on piece of paper* Yes, Jacula.
oh no, stidgmere - you got MY attention - not so fast!
Gmere is excused.
By now, the girls and the youngest boy knew their mother had returned with the stranger... and that their eldest brother was home for a visit. They trooped out on the porch and lined up along the railing, watching silently.
Oh, sorry.
g'night, g'mere!
(good night, Mother, see you tomorrow)
night stidgmere!
good night stidgmere
Yes, we'll have another happy day. These are the best times of my life.

well, who died and made Jacula storytime monitor? huh? ;)
Mab? What?
Good gmere!
that's so sweet... I wanna be a stid!
mab, she was just next to jilli when she threw her tantrum.
The mother quietly walked up the path and handed the baby to her youngest daughter, who carried it into the bedroom to set down.
better than having me do it, mab - it would be total chaos in here!
Let's all do geneology and find out our connection!
jilli - oh what do i know? ;)
off to watch a video with my kiddo.
gardengirl, there is no stidgirl, maybe stidmama can adopt you or make you an honorary stid?
The remaining light was fading fast. The other children moved to the cart and began unloading it.

The man and his eldest son turned to the cart and began to lead the horse to the stable.
Oh, okay Mab.
The young wife walked up the steps into the welcoming light.
Settle down again, folks; the story is still unfolding...
you're a great monitor.
*clicks the light switch on and off a couple times to help alert people to the start of the story*
*restart
blinks eyes because of light flickering.
In the back, the youngest son had finished bedding down the animals when he heard hooves and the rumble of wheels on the packed ground outside the barn.

The man and his eldest son backed the cart into the barn while the boy held the doors, and unharnessed the horse while the boy fetched water and hay to the stall.
StidMama, you are a true professional!
slips in and listens quietly
Finally satisfied that the horse was clean and comfortable, the three of them walked toward the kitchen, where the sounds of happy women sparkled.
