i guess simon said if he wins simon will quit, haha. apparently that supposedly happen on the original show in the UK, too. But he's really not very good and it's sad that other better singers are getting the boot and he's not. He wasn't even in the bottom 3!!
ca 7 if it hasn't been called
hi everybody that just joined!
but he wasn't in the top 3. the top 3 were who they should have been. They knew what they were doing tonight
whoa--Simon quit? He's half the show :)
I know but this "vote for the worst" stuff pretty much spoils any integrity the show has. They should probably work it the way that the "Grease" reality show worked where the judges have vetoe power

cr***la is the brand name
thx babbz
sorry.. didn't see that jillibus.
ca7 means a word that starts with ca and has 7 letters
kkie - the numbers in the boxes below the grid correspond to the letter above - so, they are telling you there are no words that begin with the upper left 't'
then, below that, there are 12 words that begins with 's' & so forth
kkie I suggested you go up to Help and down to Angelsongs link in Friends of BAbble, and pointed that out twice!
kkie: under the left bottom boxes, there is a number of links. Go to the one by Angelsong; it is full of useful information, including "how to play."
so it looksa s if we've been talking to you but you haven't noticed
jili - very informative profile, as always, tx!

a foot of snow...late april fool's joke?
yuppers
you have a foot cliff?! We only have 7-8 inches
a foot, and it is still snowing. according to NH news station, my area won the snow lottery.
We had snow 2 days ago, currently, it's freezing rain. I demand actual warm weather!
you got that much eva ? wow im glad im not more northern
you sure did cliff!
and wouldn't you know, i had my husband remove all the structures covering my ornamental shrubs last weekend!
of course
gril
Now I need to decide whether its worth it to have the plow guy come, or will it melt on its own
cliff, do you think this kitten is Merplet?Look at the markings!
it's really sunny here can't wait till I can go home for Easter :-)
its gonna be 40 on saturday in central eva
eva, i was just going to say that i love seeing the merp pic, then the kitten pic, then the merp pic. kitten looks like a baby merp.
but there isn't any sun forecast forever
hi katie
hopefully it will pop out here and there
Hi Eva
I think it will melt before the day is over because all of the frost is out of the ground.
yacs
I saw an ad on TV last night with a cat who could have been Merp's identical twin. Ive seen that before, so there is a genetic template out there which produces this exact face
one of the kittens has gray splotches in strange places (like inside of legs) and on her face - i saw a grown up identical version at the shelter last week! amazes me.
they are all so beautiful Eva ;-)
here we go again lol
I love the little kitten! God am I tempted.
what an awful grid
I'm getting a kitten when we have moved house again (not long to go I hope!) Don't know how Casty our current cat will take to it though!
lost connection
kitten!! :) :)
CARPE FELIS
Eva - I've had to turn to the list after only 40 words :-(
still half asleep as I took a pill last night, so only just noticed the important ending
phantom: crayola
I sure miss not having kitty's around but with Dick's health we can't but,I do have a very spoiled little Yorkie (silkey). We do have a couple of barn cats the keep the mice under control,I keep them well fed and watered!
yippeee! our office manager called to tell me the office is closed today!!!!
yay!
yahoo cliff...;-)
***mumbles obsceneties at grid, and poyrs more coffee***

hurshy, if you monkeyed that, you are my babble idol!

The local ski place here closed 1 1/2 wks ago.
doodlebug!
I guess it means you don't like 'em scrabbler. ;-)
you've probably seen them around your foundation. They build littl sand pits, and wait at the bottom for ants to slide in. THen they snare them with their huge pincers
I don't like an*s in my house.

morning all
Pretty card, pida 1. Hello, Gkmandy.
hi GK
hi scarlet
just discovered this website -- its a great tool for anyone who eats but is trying to eat healthy! http://healthydiningfinder.c om/
hi wolvie
thanks, Scarlet.
Hi Gk, evan, and anyone else I missed. Been keeping my nose in the grid.......
hi pida
Afternoon All
hi Kazz
hi kazzer
Hi, Kazzer99. Happy afternoon... it's 9:39 a.m. here.
How you bin wolvie - long time no write - i haven't been on the grid for a bit - too much of the w word interfering with babble
scarlet its 5 hours later here
how many words?
hey kazzer
149
149
ty
I'm here on and off myself kazzer - been busy, but - fine. :-)
Is the country celebrating the return of its sailors, Kazzer?
i'm moving tomorrow and saturday so I will be here off and on as well
its been quite low key - papers have centre spreads etc but i think its deliberately quite
that was good news on those sailors
Hello again - just spent ages looking for the al6 - stupid word
*quiet
have fun Gk
hi ursh
packed a lot last night so have little things to pack now
hey ursh
I think our media has gone overboard with analyses and comment. Hi, ursh.
gk - are you moving to somewhere really nice or was the move work related etc
well our rent was 1125 and we are moving into a 3 bedroom apartment for 850 with water and cable included
with regard to sailors its very easy to read all sorts of things into it that arnt really there
amen to that scarlet - I mean, already talking funds for the 08 election - give me a break - I hate that they are going to dwindle our choices so soon
Have to run. I think I will list with 65 words left when I return. If I don't see some of you, joyous and peaceful holidays, all. <3
just on buzz, too - ick
bye scarlet
bye scarlet
bye scarlet, peace!
Pax.
bye scarlet
sounds like a good deal gk - we own our place with a mortgage but were lucky that with my job move we could buy a place three times the size but in real terms only 9k more
bye scarlet
*Hugs all around*
{{{{scarlet}}}
Hey bogster - Tom wants to know if your printer is working!
thats goods kazzer
good deal kazz
hubby just got in so I will be back later
later, bye
bye kazz

good going harp - 5 total words left here
done getting the water and electric all done and disconnected
an7?
hi again
picnic pest plus jungle king
thanks, that's two animals that could take each other on in a fair fight!
Fireworks
went out to try to move my car out of the way of the plow, but got stuck in 9 inches of very, very heavy and wet snow, and the plow guys just called to say his brake line broke, so I'm home for the day. Wish is was a less obnoxious grid!
hate to play and run - but - I must be off
sorry to hear about that eva - bummer
well, I didn't have any plans for the day, so this might just cause me to get my taxes done. I know it's early, but what the hell.(-:
congrats wolvie!!!
the last mo4/5?
never mind!
mo7?
it wouldn't take gila
gr6/36?
gr6/36 is an adverb form of a color, harpjane...
tx bugzy
YW :)
thanks i forgot about that suffix
does anyone have the al 6/24?
Hey Brother - I don't have it but would love a clue !!
kind of singer al**
ahhhhhhhh about to start today's puzzle
seems to be a tricky one today, instantfame...
hmmm, well im up to 78 words. but im feeling like the last half will really suck
Me too, 78 and I think I'm stuck...
does anyone have the my 6/30?
have to hate 3 minute office interruptions during my babble rounds!
and i'm still looking for the al 6/24 if anyone's managed to get that one
the al ... can also end with s instead of the letter it ends in
a little more specific?
i think the al6 is a religious jewish word
muhamed al* + simple sounding of a sail boat
aaahh there we go!
thanks
also.. the one who was queen of the damned... the movie... who died... name is similar
ok, last word is that pesky my 6... does anyone have it?
ooh i actually figured it out
lemme see if ii can get it
al6 = the immigration of Jews to Israel, either as individuals or in groups.
odd- it won't take mylars. it works in scrabble.
is mylar a brand name?
yes that too, but that's not the definition im after hehe
dictionary.com doesn't have it--- supposedl the scrabble dictionary comes from merriam-webster. must find out!
it won't take "nigra" either, as in the substantia nigra part of the brain
dictionary.com has the my word = bark of the wax myrtle
yeah nigra won't take in scrabble either
yet other parts of the brain, e.g., raphe and pons, do work
hmm, mylar works as a noun- a polyester film- guess it does tie to the brand name
back again, ri6?
ties to the first al4
Thanks got it
tx fame
sure
won't take mylar, but takes ny5 and ra5 from the same company
I know, guess those were never trademarked?
Back from the Teddy Bear Picnic, and as a bonus, found the 2nd no 5 that eluded me this morn.
G'd afternoon Babblers!
Hello Lori - I'm back as well, just a few left to find.
I'm at 124. How much longer do I suffer?
149 is your target
Thank ye muchly.
im at 134, and i feel your pain, lori
I'm at 141, and ready to scream
I am at 117 and about to croak
Just 8 to go Lori - they are there waiting for you.
***sigh***
why are the 7's giving me such a hard time. Help with mo 7 and mu 7 please
mo7 - three letters of what Oliver Twist wanted, then rearrange the letters of the implement used to get creases out of clothes.
mu7 - mu7 ends in water falling from the sky, reached using a double consonant.
They are unusual words, that's why they're a problem ,inge.
149 words. DOne! Monkeyed the yi's, for the touchdown. :)
got the mu 7, now to the mo 7
Congratulations!
Both m 7's were new to me.
howdee buddies!
hi everybody. logged on just in time to get Haz's super clue for the mo.. tyvm, Haz
Hello BDG!
G'd afternoon BDG
You're welcome Aloy.
G'd afternoon Aloy!
hubby says Oliver Twist wawnted soup, that doesn not work
Well, I must get things ready for the kids to egg decorate this afternoon.
He wanted another portion of it, though. 'Please sir, I want some ?'
Morning everyone!
so many interruptions today, finally got puzzle done
inge - it has the same double consonant as the mu7, if that helps.
congrats to you LoriP... belated YAY!!!
Have a great day everyone! Congrats instant!
Good morning Angela.
Hi All - has summer suddenly arrived while I wasn't looking? What a beautiful day.
wtg, instantfame!!!
i don't know spellit - we got 8 inches of snow last night :)
Hello spellit - it is lovely isn't it? How are you and yours?
danke
feelin famous today.. beginning of my name is in the grid.. wahoo (-:
got it at last, is there a recovery room available???
OK thanks Hazel - enjoying the sunshine and trying to imagine 8 ins of snow!
yay inge!
A recovery room sounds like a good idea! It would be as useful as a penalty box.
Gotta love New England. It was 76 degrees here a couple weeks ago...then 2 days later we got 15 inches!
darn thing won't take sircar! humpf
I know, spellit, it's so nice to have more light and warmth.
airn
Oh dear sorry for that - been away too long!
anoying!
Tell me about it - my motorcycle was THIS close to being out on the road!
in Michigan we always get some snow in April, and everyone here is always surprised about it. ??
I guess after our mild start to winter, we were just hoping it would end the same way...warm!! :)
only have 66 words and starting to get stuck. looks like a tough grid . . .
It is a tough grid.
grettings all - 66 left
I have 63 and am getting a bit irritated...hence the chatting :)
lots of odd words
Hello knight.
hiya all. what a beast. 20 to go including mo6/21 and 2 x mo5/12. help............
one of the mo5/12 starts with cow sound and ends like music note - slang for money?
mo6/21 adds a vowel to the end of Miss Stuart the newsreader (or Miss Anderson, vintage Scots singer)
then there is womans name - irish i think
Great clues both. Thanx
the 6/21 adds another vowel at the end to this name
I guess I need an American clue, I don't know Miss Stuart
lol
ursh. have that one
hello all...
howdy, stid
any clue on the mo7?
There was a ballerina, Miss Shearer (appeared in the film 'Red Shoes;)
Hello stidmama.
hello stid
knight add another vowel to the mo5/12 before (womans name)
mo7/32 - a charged particle is reached by means of a double helping of a consonant.
brb.. need food.. 10 to find..
ursh thats 6 letters
need the mo7
oh darn - sorry - concentrating on ra's
ooh HAz! thanks for that mo7!
knight - I clued it below at 10.52.
Haz. You are brilliant but i need another mo5/12 to finish the m words. Then will tackle 4 x ca words
You're welcome stidmama.
Alleyn, I'll run through the mo5/12 words for you.
alleyn do you have the mo (damp)
ty haz that finshed the 7s for me
mo5/12 - the woman's name, the quality of dampness, extension of mo4/5 (backwards means of making cloth), the point of the story,
why is it not mooli?
Because it's a different vowel on the end....
hey, that word for a billiards shot is in here (it was in the grid a few days ago too), both spellings
cos thats what you squish baby food with!! lol
got the one with an a!
billiards shot, gwen? *regretting not looking up every unfamiliar term*
Haz. You star. off to the gym - groan and takcle last 17 on return
later Alleyn...
Hi. Back again. I am missing the ca 4 word that comes between ca 4 Adam's firstborn and the other boy's name.
Have a good time at the gym, Alleyn.
ca plus the beginnings of not high, Merk.
Merk it means "a variety of Spanish influenced by Mexican underworld argot with a large admixture of English words, spoken esp. by young Mexican-Americans in cities of the southwestern U.S." abbreviate largest US state by economic status + vowel
gr6/36 anyone?
gr6/36 - makes a colour into an adverb
ty again Haz
okay, TY merk!
No problem, Merk.
I am still missing the two ca 7 ... not the dead meat. I asked before and then the telephone rang and I left. Never got to read any clues.
The dead meat one is mirrored in structure by a later one. One vowel is changed to a sometimes vowel.
The other one, ca7/40 - gives a participle or gerund ending to a man's name. It mirrors the structure of a popular winter sport/hairdressing technique.
Afternoon all........
I got the man's name and gerund ending, not the sometimes other vowel one yet. ty
hello caitlyn!
Good afternoon, caitlyn.
hi cait
Merk, the other CA 7 that was clued is a type of luggage you travel with...
Merk - other people hinted at it as being the sort of luggage that could be taken into an aircraft, rather than put in the hold.
I just got it ... and I should know ... I always bring it on the plane with me!
ty stid and haz
:-)
Popping champagne cork..(Anniversary today) *Handing out drinks for all* Cheers
almost to 100 words and really slowing down... maybe it's just time for the list.
happy day, caitlyn!
Done with the 'ca' ... often a challenge for me!
Thanks stid
Congratulations, caitlyn.
yep. time for the list. back soon
great champagne, cait, thanks and congratulations
And Haz.....Are you enjoying the champagne or do you want some orange juice in it? And Merk
Happy Anniversary, Caitlyn!
Thanks Aloy...Champers?
Orange juice for me, thanks!
sounds good!
happy anniversary caitlyn!
Thanks lbd
i just finished the MOs, and out of all 15 i would say 4 are common words. Oy!
i didn't know that the pl of the immigration of Jews to Israel was al6.24... am learning lots of newbies today
I ran away from home when I was 17 to marry my love and everyone thought it would never last..38 years later I think they were proved wrong!!

Thanks ddb We are going away for the weekend so that should help keep it fresh!!!LOL
Seems trivial, but I need clue for 2nd ca4,5
one of the 2 i'm missing, BDG
sc5/14 - the same structure as a scrubbing clean word, but use a different vowel - reminiscent of the dawn.
what we drive
Hi all, just spent ages monkeying for the yo's and then suddenly I saw it, I need a fish!!!
ca4/5 - ca plus the first letters of not high.
Hi steph
Hi cait
ca 4/5: ca + **garythm
what about the two Y's from the last column?
haz, your clue has left me in the dust with my hair really messed up! LOL
sounds like the yo's badly pronounced!!!
yi + hu**y up and get done
ty inge, I was not seeing those
So did you get it or not, BDG?

muriatic is used to clean brickwork
wtg aloy!!
ah I must have been thinking of that grant
I didnt know that grant
:-) so what about the MY?
BDG - the wound reminder is sc4/5. Put another vowel in before the last letter for sc5/14

morning all.. can't tell if my brain is not functioning or this is a more difficult puzzle...
gm walnutchen
hey walnut -- maybe a bit of both? *teasing grin*
with the list it wasn't horrible, but some of the words were very unfamiliar...
Stid, in which chapter did we first encounter Tor? I am a bit lost with this last chapter.
hmmm. only 41 so far with no list...
trying to hold off on going to the list.
four more minutes and then I am going to do some house and yardword before I go visit my mother.
this grid is murder, ekven with the list, Walnut
I finished using morewords.com which was not accessible earlier today
good question, inge. Tor is Adam and Ava's "problem child" the one who didn't finish school and now works for merchants and others who have "products" they need to move from one place to another. A wanderer by nature, he is starting to settle down a bit in maturity but still tends to have a short fuse.
ok, I feel more familiar now with the characters
yes, with big families it's hard to keep everyone straight. Took me years to figure out in my own family that the Auntie Eva who was my grandmother's aunt was the Eva who married my grandfather's uncle... LOL and I still don't have all the cousins straight in my head!
Hi stid, inge, et al
walnut, need any clues or help being confused? (I can do both simultaneously if you wish)
hey pida!

Yes, I am.
Very much so.

singer, songwriter, guitar player, music lover.
nice!! I used to sing, now in artist management for pianists
inge knows

It's about 2 1/2 hours. It looks like we'll be keeping the dogs for quite some time.
thinking about it scrabs, don't want to upstage JC though, you know what i mean?
Good idea, nut.
dogs need to meet the little bundle. they'll take to him with no problem
I think the dogs will be fine. The new mom is paranoid that they'll knock him over or accidentally hurt him, or something.
Coming out from behind your rock is a good thing Nutty
my dog is brutal with my now four y/o...knocks him down constantly
ok..yi 4/6???
funny thing dawg, i graduated from the rock.
New Mom will need to get a grip! lol *bless her heart tho*
momo3, add double consonants to the yi
my dog knocks me down, then licks my face and bites my bum
kinky dog
ty
lol
Yeah. It will be interesting to see what happens. Well, thanks for letting me brag! See ya again soon!
my dog has no idea how strong he is...he nearly tore my arm out of the shoulder while trying to walk him today
N word, last column?
my grandson is brutal to the grand-dog. she just gets up and walks away when she's had enough of him
love that baby for us Gwen!

Good decision, momof3--is he OK?

i am just not focused here...think i am going to play solitaire.
Bye mom

lots of gerunds and double r words
bye mom....I am out of here too...see everyone tomorrow.
Bye JeeWhiz
night everyone..good luck...see you all at the flip
Boy, it's very quiet here tonight
i think everyone finished early
i started at the flip last night and finished the morning
I was at church for Holy Thursday Mass, so I got home at 9
not me!
You mean that you didn't finish, Jill?
started at the flip, did a bit this maorning, meetings and shopping etc this aft, just back now with 32 left and dinner to get
Go go, Jill. I have 68 to go, but need to get to bed soon. I am here to relax, and munch on pretzels.
I'm munching on VeggieStix and sipping a vodka on the rox -- pretty well pooped! But relaxing!
hi everyone

i just made eggplant parmesaen - i must say i did a fab job!
No, vodka for me, Jill, but yummy soymilk. LOL
I LOVE eggplant, HK
working on the M words...have several, filling in the gaps (I hope)
Milkmilk for me at the appropriate time (but lactose free)
love eggplant too but seldom cook it -- too much for one
I am lactose intolerant too. When one of my nephews was younger, he thought the term was black toast intolerant :)
good evening everyone.
Hi bookwomen
hooray! Done! Anyone need a clue before I hit the hay?
Yahoooo Fiber Art! Congrats!
need 44 of them. ;-) congrats.
Hi, Scrabbler!
Pick one, Book
I need to go to bed, my head is bobbing, and I don't want to shatter the monitor screen.
Good night---see you tomorrow.
thanks. not sure what i need yet. still working it.
I never used to be lactose intolerant but had a bout of colon cancer and got gassy after the anastamosis narrowed (I'm sure EVERYONE wants to hear about this)!
Okay--off to do a sudoku and sleep.
Well, hey, you are a survivor, that is great!!
good nite scrabbs
bbl
why do peop0le say goodnight when I'm in the middle of talking to them?
oh, scrabbler, you weren't gone -- thanks

i know some cool legend in the babble community

wrong
no ar 5/14. working from the bottom up. have everything from y-m.
thanks, though. didn't have that one yet
yum!
arinn
woops
wrong text bos... it must be contagious
found it: ar + the things fish breathe through, minus one of the double consonants
ty
thanks! nifty word
thanks
all the silly CAs done. only 4 of 16 are common words. Oy!
I don't like these grids which are mostly Klingon
just starting on the Cs.
jilli, LOL you are right!
32 left here, still working on the M words (lots of interruptions)
of 8 LIs only 3 are common words
may I please have a clue for the to 6/24?
one of five MUs common word
*diving into the grid*
to6, sounds like you are ringing the bell
verb for ringing bell.
ty
thanks BDG
Fireworks!!!!
congrats.
wunderbar, dr9397!!!
Congrats, dr9397
wd dr93!!!
i don't know how you all do it- this is my first time trying this and i am been at it for 2 hours and sitll have 81 words left!
64 to go, better hit the list, can't see anymore on my own :(
good luck to all who are just starting -- lots of "not a word" words in here!
silverdust, this is a rotten one to start with. There are several ways to get help -- do you know about Lickety"s list?
silver, most of them don't have so many oddities in'em
since when did any more become one word?
Grump
fireworks. ty for the clues.
silver, you get get a boatload of clues: click on the tiny green link at the bottom for Lickety Splits Clues
YAY bookwomen!!!
bizarre an7 which i just found. picnic pest plus "king of the jungle"
bw WTG!!
jilli, about 1560 i think LOL
4 to go, all LAs
is lignon NOT a real word???
no so, gwen!
no so whom?
BTW, frierworks!
congrats gwen.
this one was tricky.
wd gwen !!!
no doute !
plus everything was spelled wrong LOL
i just found out my photo is hanging in a salon woohoo lol :)
i think nonloan should be a word, since you get it from banks a lot
YAY Gwen!!! (why do we persist with this nonsense?)
carra, your whole head or just your hair??
cuz it's fun, usually 8-)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v353 /miss_carra/CarraGiovanniCouture.jpg
or gilty
that one.. i might go take photos of it.. i dont want the salon to think im weird though haha
yoyo !
nono!
been there carra. no yoyo for you!
(going to look at salon photo)
yes yes
oh my, did you win the Oscar? that's a heck of a gown!
it was for the designers website/promotional material/press packet
wow carra!!!
scringe!
his gowns are amazing
so are you, carra!
but can you walk wearing that? or eat? LOL
thanks
Gwen actually yes lol.. I was twirling ..jumping... eating in it
hi peeps!
hiya monkeym!
http://www.giovanniravello.com/
very brave, carra LOL
thats his site
monkey, howda doon?
you will need clues for about 80% of the grid!!
wow guys
thanks for the lickety spils clues tip
i was actually sick during that ( sniffles, hot/cold flashes) but i was so excited about it :)
i was super lost
so true gwen , i only have 53 words
no one can finish without Lickety, except the really insane addicts LOL
ying should be a word
your the ying to my yang? lol
one often finds words in the grid that it won't take. it is attached to an abridged dictionary, i assume
which really is a good thing, since if it was attached to the OED there would be thousands of words in there!
grinny!
i like when i type in a word fast but miss a letter but then it accepted :)
silver -- another big helper is www.morewords.com -- especially with a grid like this one
other words that should have been accepted: mylar, crayloa, aryan
i started a list of the "weird" words (in a MSWord doc) and I use it to find the same weird words next time. very handy
oops. crayola. but now i see it's not even in there. lol
sour grapes.
crayola uses the A twice, though -- i tried that too
it takes some words that a brand names, like ra5, and refuses others, like mylar. you just have to type them all in
carra, is that designer established? if not he should audition for project runwy
runway
my word list is only 240 pages long. who, me, obsessive? naaaaaw . . .
is ra5 a brand name or an actual material?
it takes some french words like no** but refuses others...
ra5 has gone the way of aspirin, i guess: used to be a brand name, has become a generic
its an actual material- synthetic
like BandAids and Xerox
yup! tho i bet this game wouldn't take either of those!
who generates these grids? anyone know?
i've found that going back to the archived chat log is sooooo helpful as far as clues go.
I think they are computer generated by Dr_God
monkey, the host's name is Dr. God (seriously). you can emila him from link at very bottom
(email)
that's funny
Dr. God
well, I'd rather emila him, Gwen :)
yeah but a book doctor is better than a god doctor LOL
i know a guy qho used to emila a lot. he got arrested
i wonder if he went blind, too
hello, i need some help with ly6 words
think so, yeah
ly6, the words to a song
harp, do you have the ly5/16?
ly6, someone who plays an ly4
song words also singular
ly5, speaking untruths
oh, you mean that instrument that was the predecessor to the harp? lol
in5.14?
got the L's thanks
yep!
nm, found it!
in5, similar to in4, a form of wood decor in which tiny pices of colored wood are set on the surface
jinxie...maybe mother of pearl set into the wood?
TY Gewn *S*
and Monkey *S*
(i hear hissing . . .)
your fish needs to be re-inflated LOL
Hi everyone... back to finish up before flip time
hiya Huga!
howdee hug, hope you have a good head start already!
monkey thanks for the tip on archives.. doing that now i have alot of words to go :)
Hi MM... hope you guys can help me with my last 12 words.
hiya hugs
ready to spout clooze
sure huga!
you're welcome carra
I have la x 7; li x 7; lo x 3 and ly x 4... missing one?
you need 8 LIs
another li hugs
thanks Gwen
there are 8 li7
all the LIs are 4 letters, except one plural
ca6/24?
and it was that plural that I missed.
harp...a billiard shot
ca6/24, same as one of the ca5s, a billiards shot, but center consonant is doubled
thanks
I have oa x 2, oi x 1, ol x 1, on x 1, or x 4 and ou x 1... missing?
(does anyone remember playing a games called just that? ca5, i mean. We had a set when I was a kid.)
yes gwen...totally!
another OU
missing OU
possessive
i couldn't remember the name of it, and years went by, and i saw a set at a garage sale. Ponk!
gwen..i always wanted one of those boards
ou6 and an ou4
i think i made a few bucks playing that game in kindergarten. lol
8 left and I'm hungry (no supper yet)
thanks MM and Gwen - found it. it was the ou6
what, they stopped making them?
yay!
(passing jilli some cookies)
i think they did
but i loved the old ones...great colors on the wood
GO JILLI GO JILLI GO!
monkey, you rascal. gambing right out of the cradle LOL
Carra...how're you doing over there?
ta very much, Gwen!
lol
Missing 1 C - ca x 16, ci x 1 and cr x 2
2 CIs
cix2
ci5 and ci5
ci4 and ci5
argh, ci5 and ci4
the ci5 is extremely weird
thanks again.. found the ci5
yes. verry
:)
8-D
Missing 2 A's - ai x 1; al x 2; an x 2; ar x 6 and au x 3
why do the people on survivor now wear tribal makeup? as if they're indigenous to the island they're on? so ridiculous
missing an AC4
3 ALs
and an ac4
monkey, because it's a ridiculous show?
the al6 is mega extremely weird
ca16 to tote, cr16 childs toy
becauses it's a game & they're playing
lol. yes Gwen. good answer
here I've been looking at to4/5 and thinking it couldn't be a real word but it is, meaning empty or vacant -- who knew?
i thought that show was appalling when it started, and now it's been running how long? OMG
hear hear Gwen
one Scottish dialect word it accepts. There are lots it won't, too
i love survivor, it's fun
recall why reality shows started. then recall that the writer's strike is OVER.
lolol! hilarious, gwen
Missing 2 M's - mo x 14; mu x 5 and my x 1
TY, but i'm dead serious. what rot.
survivor & amazing race are fun
reality shows are the death of cerebral programming
the only two i watch
15 MOs,
monkey..if that's all one watches
and an me4
I have never gotten into the reality shows one whit.
missing an me4
when candid camera was the only reality show, maybe. but now there are dozens. Yeech!
true Mom...but i've seen many of my writer friends here in Los Angeles lose work to them
I have to admit I like a couple of the Bravo reality shows -Project Runway and Top Chef
i can just stomach mythbusters, which has something like a reality show format
Mom01...it's more from a political perspective than a cynical audience perspective
but i understand they're totally entertaining
jinxie2300 ¿ Cúantas palabras tienes?
and occasionally i watched insomniac, which also had a reality-show-like format
the trouble is, we're raising a whole generation that expects sound bites instead of analysis. And the distinction between news and entertainment is blurred.....
but reality shows where the victims have to be cutthroat bastards to "win" are just sick, IMO
Huga...did you get the me4/5?
yes... I did.. don't know why I didn't see it right off either. down to 5... 2 S's and 3 r's
It started long before the latest glurge of reality shows, but I don't think they help any!
harpjane..i totally agree. look at MSNBC..it's like watching tabloid news
dictionary dot clam says me4 is not a word. me + two other vowels
yeah i found that odd Gwen
glurge! great word!!
Harp, it all comes around....next generation will do something totally different
I have sc x 10... need 2
When a former WWW star becomes a governor...
cuz babble is not attached to that dictionary
al6,24 ?
The Today Show is not much better than MSNBC
just got an si5
al6 is not a word: famous boxer Mohammed *** + spell backward the thing kids play with
I mean, Matt Lauer's appendectomy is interesting, but it's not really news....
there are 4 sc5's
okay, rant over
today show? OMG what rubbish!
3 sc7's
I have all the 7's
harp, no, rant away LOL
2 sc4's
1 sc8
and 1sc6
well, i would rant some more but I think I'm preaching to the choir
sc5/14 clue please?
I won't even HAVE a tv when the HDTV thing comes in
dispatch..it's an sc5/16
oh sorry
u're right
the FCC was corrupted 2 days after W took office. you see what has happened to the tv, radio, etc, since
sc5/14 is kind of like what you do to a rusty pan, different middle vowel
sc5/14: sc + the magical glow around a living person, minus the last letter
there's an sc5/14, it's like the sc4/5 with an extra vowel near the end
LOL! what HASN'T been corrupted since HE took office?!?!
sc5/14 -a respell of to use cleanser to clean pots
lol Mom
mom, just two things, one of which is my anatomy LOL
Oh, it was bad long before W came in, maybe made worse now.
Cheney's bank account hasn't
got it. thanks MM
hahaha!
I have ra x 6; ri x 2 and ro x 1
that's the other one LOL
yw dispatch!
ry4
i just pulled out my upper left cap, post & all - evil culprit = chewing gum!
three RIs
there are 7 ra's
and seven RAs
there are 7 ra's
3 ri's
and 1 ry
yee-ouch, helen!
hi everyone - ouch helen
hi saphyre!
ri6/18 clue please?
ri6, what news on the ri****?
My nephew analyzed two segments, Larry King interviewing someone and Bill O'Reily interviewing the same person. In a 9 minute interview, the person was able to make something like 5 times more statement than in O'R. Because of the difference in so-called objective journalistic styles.
ri6: a square in Venice
(an Italian word but it's in Shakespeare so it's in the Eng dict too)
no - not at all painful - no root there - i called my dentist at home - (how great is that?!?!) just to make sure i wasn't hazarding an infection, but he says not to worry - whew - just a nuisance now
bill o'reilily really needs to be put down (not killed, just gotten far away from broadcasting)
yeah. he's dangerous i think
that's good helen
i vote for putting him down....veterinarian style
or we could just neuter him, it made my cat nicer....
al5?
and Fireworks... thanks so much Gwen and MM
if the FCC were run by proper bureacrats -- meaning people who do their jobs right -- he would be gone, gone, gone!
congrats Hugs
hug, WTG!!
horray for you hugs!!!
only dangerous because a dumbed-down generation thinks he's objective
put in a row Harp
wd hugs
but just not getting the venice square clue...sorry
!
thanks for all the help ya'll
i'll be back
al5 = to put everything in a perfect row
but to bed for now!
thanks, 6 to go
so helen, tell me....why is there braile at the atm's?
dispatch, ri4 + the number after 1 (spelled wrong)
al5- to put items in a row
does the al6 build from that?
crain
harp, no, al6 is completely diff and totally weird
ty...sorry you had to be so blunt with me!!
mom - LOL, i know! i wonder the same thing all the time! - some idiot in middle management trying to hang on to his/her job
no Harp
trade the r and the i bogster
yay Huga!!!!
i clued the al6 a while back: famous boxer mohammed *** + spell backward what a child plays with
good clue
& the "suits" bought it helen
8-D
could I get a clue for it then? al6?
harp, look down to 11:16
oh that clue, ok, i'll think about it
boxer clue
harp... boxer Mohammed's frist name
yep mom - idiots all around!
plus a child's play thing spelled backward
i have a feeling the next grid's gonna be monstrously huge
like 300 something
don't blind people use atms? i mean folks who read braille but are not 100% blind?
I saw that clue early today and didn't feel like dealing with it?
but they have braile at the drive up ATMs...
I use them in the dark sometimes
got it thanks
if you're reading braile...you shouldn't be driving
harp, have you taken your pills today? LOL
gwen - yeah, but really, then can they see the screen & LOL mom makes an excellent point!!
i'll bet there is a reg somewhere that atms have to have braille, and it includes all of them. plus some people do walk to those drive-up atms
sometimes i park by the braille method :D
hahaha, yup, that's how I corner a road helen!
now ponder this: the same companies that make those atms make thos P.O.Sh. voting machines with no print-outs, and claim they can't make them iwht print-outs. Liars!
wow. really gwen
scary
it's just downright amazing we were able to put a man on the moon, no?
monkey, no kidding. a receipt with every transaction, unless you vote.
gwen...what flag is that?
but...DID we put a man on the moon? :)
but...DID we put a man on the moon? :)
totally diff administration(s) for the space program. current admin is trying to kill space program
that was a ruse helen...hehe
monkey, Wales. ain't it cool? (it's a dragon)
last word: my6/30 clue please?
capricorn 1 - wasn't that the movie?
no no gwen..that was an astronaut trying to kill...oh nevermind
my + the most popular grain in China, but last letter is diff vowel
my6/30 = my+ Costa ****
i am not going to argue about the moon landings, cuz the idea that they were hoaxes is BS
ty. fireworks
yes Helen...Capricorn one was with James Brolin, right?
wtg Dis!!
woohoo dispatch!
congrats Dispatch
a lot of monkeying on this one!!! thanks for the clues!
i'm going to have a cigarette...and i don't even smoke
though i liked the movie, Capricorn One. Very nice music.
i'm going to stretch a bit...hope to catch you all at the flip!
heyyy! watch what you say about Monkeying! :)
lol MM
monkeys smoking is funny to see
wd dispatch!!!
lol
". . . your brother was climbing on the roof . . ."
my dad was one of the NASA engineers who helped build rigs to train the astronauts. very cool stuff!
sc7/40? i have one of them
anyone else here in Los Angeles?
sc7 = make and adverb out of the one that sounds frightening
i think i'm the only one who plays word games i my city
another sc7 = climbing a sheer wall
my friends won't play Scrabble with me lol
ty gwen!
my daughter is in LA
last sc7 = frightening someone is sc***** them
binghamton ny here
what part Saphyre?
binghamton, Rod Serling's home town?
yup
could i get help with my last two--the ar5's?
tolars was not found in the dictionary but it was found in morewords. This is the WORST grid I've seen yet.
hmm - not sure - she just moved from Santa Barbara
funny -- i am great at boggle but suck at scrabble. different brain functions involved
ar5/14 = kinda like the scottish socks pattern
ar5 = ar + the part of a fish it breathes with (drop final leter)
hmm. trying to think of a clue for the other ar5
got it, one to go
ar5 = a + double consonant + I am, you are, she **
wow! you're good Gwen!!!
thanks gwen, i can go eat my ice cream and raspberries now!
aw, gee, ** sparkle **
wow yu're right Jilli..about tolar
ice cream! yum . . .
congrats harpjane
yay Harp!
you kids stay up late for the flip
it's only 9:30 for me
not an easy puzzle today
ok, so I need a clue for to6/24 please
cold stone creamery, yum...& good job harp
that's the plan
to6 = ringing the bell
another to6 = playing with a plaything (ugh!)
ah, i didn't have the plaything one..thanks gwen :)
thanks, gwen, even if it's not spelt right!
anyone need clues?
it's the clue that counts, not the spelling!
it still amazes me how it smacks me in the face when i get a clue
speling is overrated enneeway
lol
justify some of the ridiculous ways we spell things. i dare ya!
well, I looked up that to6 and it means something else besides. But your clue was great, Gwen!
our spellings can be justified by their histories in most cases
gwen...spelling is like reality tv....lol
oh my goodness
jilli, history is no excuse for through, though, thought, bough, rough, need i go on?
16 left and a brain fart
i love history but it should not be a prison
(brain fart is not in the grid!)
history shouldn't be a prison..it's the future
one little rule I was taught by my dad at age 5 is so useful and so unknown these days -- that a double consonant makes the vowel before it short -- if anyone knows waht that means nowadays
i mean the only reason we do not have proper spelling reform is the history argument, and it's really not a strong enuf reason, IMO
what ;)
I learned that too jilli - hmm does that make us old?
i gotcha
english has quite a few spelling rules. not one is free of silly exceptions, tho
but the history is what makes words so interesting
it makes ME old!
:)
do you know and exception to that one, Gwen?
sure, but every other major language is "shepherded" so to spek to keep it rational. englishc spelling is stuck where it was some 400-500 years ago
we stopped wearing big hats with buckles but we can't stop spelling things in ridiculous ways?
not if u have checked ur kids' txts lately
lol
i'm not arguing for bad spelling but rational spelling LOL
like the way GBS spelt "potato" which I can't remember just now - lol
dan quayle
i c, mini
GBS also advocated spelling reform. in fact, so did Benjamin Franklin. it is long overdue
anyone read parts of anna nicole's diary? i felt bad for her because of her spelling
that's why he spelt it that way, n'est-ce pas?
potatoe : dan quayle's contribution to stand-up humor
mmm. i like to eat Spelt bread :)
heavens no, mom01!
with speilt milk on it? LOL
sadly, it's being auctioned off jill
I heartily regret to say that my dear departed mother wrote tomatoe
adding a useless e on the end of a word is a time-honored tradition
EVERYBODY spells something incorrect. Suppose to be that way. :)
spelt is the brit way of spelling spelled. I'm bilingual - lol
now we add an e on the front: email, ebook, etc!
In southern MD I worry more about how things are pronounced than the spelling - They warsh clothes here
ah, lovley and necessary neologisms
as long as we all speak goodly ;)
LOL saph
isn't etc. spelled that way though? i'm ignorant here..isn't it etcetera
in many countries (France, Germany) there is a panel empowered by the gubmint to set correct spelling for the national language. we should have something similar. they should go very slow with the reform, of course, but it needs to be done
I have 4 left to find in 16 minutes and still supperless -- ttfn
the original spelling was &c
oh wait...lol....another doh for Mom01
come on jilli, you can do it - and have supper before flip
as long as our president continues to say Nucular, nothing will change
see ya jill!
damm strayt, monkey!
