Sp6/21 poppy day is 11Nov. In memory of those killed in the wars.
at the end of the Great War, the poppies were in bloom, and a poem was written about them by a Canadian if i recall, about the poppies in Flander's fields
Rememberance day is coming up..the 11th hour of the 11day of the 11 month... so when I found out today was "heart' day...I thought of the purple heart...aand then we got on to "poppies"

Every year at the Royal Albert Hall we have a celebration and during the tw ominutes silence a million poppy petals fall from the roof. It is very moving.

I have 2 sets of people i associate on a regular basis... that are separate to eachother completely... my what western culture says is "normal" friends... and a great many middle eastern muslim friends... many of whom are veiled... and....when the 2 collide my "normal" friends are always taken aback with my ease of communication etc... and my ME friends are always confused that I can relate so well with them and yet have "friends" who are so obviously "distressed" by the "terrorists"
having a lot of palestinian friends, yes, i understand of what you speak, as i've seen them pulled that way too. Happily, none of them have found it worse since 9/11, at leaste the ones still around DC have not fiend it worse since then.

mrp one thing that helps me is a calming exercise where you pick a "safe place" in your life and you picture it in great detail. the more you do it the more relaxing it becomes. i use my grandmother's house.

Kayaking was magnifico! Super sunny but temps started at 47 and rose to 55. The water was cold so stepping in was frigid (we don't have the waterproof boots yet). We apddled around the lake, went to our island, made a fire, cooked pumpkin pancakes, napped in the sun on a bed of pine needles----a spiritual experience overall!
