don't know if i mentioned it before, but i danced at the 64 worlds fair with a group of filipino dancers
my husband is a major NY world's fair collector
and my daughter-in-law danced at Expo 67 in Montreal :D

we used to go around the Heinz exhibit collecting little samples of baked beans etc instead of buying lunch
i remember being able to get in for 25 cents on mondays as long as there was an adult who accompanied you. I loved GE, GM, Ford, Kodak and It's a Small World, great memories
the huge GM exhibit of the future world was quite prophetic

The Mark Twain play Is He Dead? was rediscovered among his papers at the UC-Berkley's Bancroft library in 2002. Apparently Twain wrote it after successfully emerging from bankruptcy but it was never staged, presumably in part due to his "roasting" a well-known French painter. The play tickled my funny bone and glad my tix not affected by strike.

it was awful here during the strike, (especially since we had so many tourists in town for the thanksgiving weekend) I felt really bad for the kids. Scoundrels was hysterical

Yes, Sprite. They occassionally come down when a pup has a problem, however, since they're pups, they can grow out of many flaws. You need to make sure they're not coming down in price for a health issue.

that seems balmy for this time of year seain -- about 10-15 higher than normal
it was 20ºF warmer than usual here, so quite pleasant.
library damage is HUGE. New roof required. Still drying out. nearly 400 big boxes of books stored. We open next Monday with very limited resources in half the area. Spoent this afternoon re-shelving DVDs in tema area -- much more to be done. Big nightmare.
yeah - I remember one year when we were outside on the driveway in shorts, trying out new roller skates ... back in Virginia where usually it was snowy and cold.

and stid, we usually could use our new skates or bike on xmas afternoon.
we MUST re-roof! New building won't happen for a couple of years at least -- gov'ts are passing bucks about the grant we should have heard about in August. Insurance will cover expenses, but a $2500 deductible.
community can pony up that deductible, if asked?
wow. I didn't realize the money wasn't coming through for the new one. What a bummer. Well $2500 isn't pocket change, but at least it's possible.
community has already been asked for support and gave -- can't keep asking. Very small population.

In the local paper today people were asked what they thought about the water damage. One jerk replied that he doesn't use the library and buys his books, and is oppoosed to the new building. Selfish igonorant bâtard (that's real French)

No, stid, on both accounts! It will muddle through! The grant will arrive eventually, and so will the insurance money. There have been some sonderful unpaid volunteers doing a magnificent job, working every day to fix things out of sheer devotion. This library is unique -- one part-time pro chief librarian (who was away this past week!) and about 150 volunteers, some of whom are retired librarians and other well educated people
