Carpets -- we lived in China -- my mother liked hardwood floors with plain Chinese carpets. I remember a round beige one with simple black and ivory bamboo designs near one border. She hated Victorian "clutter".

Yup. There was a flock that abandoned a children's farm about 20 years ago. They bred and for a while there were about 20 of them. Then they met with old age and accidents gradually, and then there was only one pair left, Toos and Nape. They bred every year and every year there was a calamity: floods, heat waves, and very often theft of the young. Last year two made it, one had a bad run-in with a dog when it was too young to fly well, the other is fine-- so now there are three. URL about them in a minute...

We also have flocks and flocks and flocks of Indian Ringneck Parakeets; they escaped from a pet store finre in the 1930's and really like it here.

It is. They can take teh cold, in their tree, but they need extra food. It's a funny coincidence, by the way, that I, always ineterested in parrots, ended up living about 100 meters from the nest site. The macaws fly over my deck every few days. I hear them most days.

I hope they will. It's a nice attempt by a species to emmigrate, like we did. And they're wonderful in flight; they'll dip down over the deck to get a good look at me and Walter, whoi of course is delighted with them. Even had to get him a life-sized plush scarlet macaw.

Yes, but he's still not 100%. We went to our own doctor yesterday-- he's finally back. He looked him over and said that everything the doctor just over a week ago saw (red throat, etc.) is much better now than in that doctor's notes so we should call it "one of those ubiquitous viruses" and stop woorying as long as he keeps getting betetr. Fine with me!
Walter is having an off day today, but that's probably mostly from being awakend at 6 by the thunderstorm. I'm tired too!

I'll do something like that pretty soon. I do not even know what French knitting IS! As to a doll, I have the life-sized copy of the infant Emperor Akihito of Japan, which was my favorite toy when I was two...
LOL MonkeyG, sounds great. French knitting for kids is with a little wooden doll, which has a hole from top to bottom and 4 metal pins or hooks on top. You work a thread around the pins and go round and round, making one stitch per pin. You get a round cord coming out from the bottom.
OH! I'll bet I could find instructions for making one online. And for using it. That'll be good in a couple of days; Danny (myhusband) leaves tomorrow for five ays at the Zappanale, so a weekend without Daddy will need specoial projects.

Yes, well, we tend to call them hot pads. Creative, wh? My family always called them trivets after another kind, but that is obviously inaccurate because to really be a trivet it must have feet: three of them.

I have to agree! He also likes making practical things. We found an old battered kid's chair a few weeks ago, and when I found the time I sanded it and put on a base coat, and Walter used my acrylics to decorate it all over. It looks pretty coola nd he sits in it all the time.

My husband I both feel that podiatrist is an odd choice for a four-year-old to make out of all the kinds of doctors we listed for him. And you said weird kid... well, yeah. Of course he is. As a teenager, I had very bad ac 4/5 and I had no pa 4/5s. I though I'd have them for an ae 4/4. I used to think some al 4/4 vera would make it go away, but it didn’t of course. Because of my bad skin,spent most of my teenage years al5/10.I was al4/4 not the most popular kid at school.I spent several nights with me, myself and I at a ca 4/8 drowning my sorrows with a cup of mo5/16 or a can of co4/5.Ea4/6 time I looked in 4/4 the mirror, I hated what I saw!I looked so not fa 4/8 compared to the popular girls in their tight mi 4/5 skirts. Although it was my face with the problem I felt ugly with every in 4/6 of my body.Other people looked at me like I was the lo4/6 Ness Monster. Some people even thought I was lo4/5.It was a sl4/5 to my ego. I was definitely not a mi 6/21 at my highschool. Finally after ni 4/4 years, my ac 4/5 went away. But by then no 4/4 of the popular students could see the new me. Now I am on 4/4 bigger and better things. I wrote this hoping to help nonfinishers see fireworks so 4/4.

Erm, well, it depends on the grid MKG. I can do a 150 worder in about 20 mins normally. A 350-worder in about 50 mins. Depends on the grid, as I said, and how much time I allocate in my day to it.

been a bit of a strain. My son and I moved in with him (here) 2 years ago as the nursing home he was in said he could go home if there was someone there

there were many things around here that he wouldn;t let me change
so now I'm up to my neck in cleaning out this place
My Other Half, who's not lost a parent yet, tells me I probably won't 'get over' it. I guess he's right. I guess we eventually learn to live with the situation and don't burst into tears in card shops when we see the sign for 'Father's Day' cards and go off to look at them and then realise we won't ever be sending one again.

it's tough, but he went the way i want to go. Fell aslepp in his chair watching tv and didn't wake up.

Herin - if I knew which tree my Mum finally decided to chuck my Dad's ashes away under, I'd do the same.
I buried with my friend (like a bro) that died a tea bag and a cigarette and a letter of all the things i wanted to say and a protection amulet.
However, she did it without me and is very vague aout exactly where she threw him away.
The only thing left to do for Dad is to scatter him in the lake he grew up on. The plan is for late Sept. when his sister can make it up here from Miami.
Jac we don't know where my Gran had her ashes scattered (her wish) so i just picked a rose bush at the cemetery that i called hers.

My Mum is a Gemini, and, like my son, hates showing overt emotion. Unfortunately, that take on life has caused me much grief.
our local funeral home gave out miniature "momento urns". They told us that we could have Dad split up between the urns so each of us had a little piece of him around. We all decided to scatter all of Dad, and keep "empty" urns

Oh there is a technique here in Aus were ashes can be turned into semi precious gems which i thought was lovely
My daughter thought I was very weird when I told her that, if I'd had the recommended hysterectomy 10 or 12 years ago, I'd have asked to have my womb and fallopian tubes given back to me in a jar. My take on this is, you never know what you might need in the next world and I want all of my parts intact. However, time wasn't right for the op because daughter was in the eating disorders clinic aat the time and then the surgeon died young of a heart attack. I'm still whole, and still battling the hot flishes.

I know of a guy who had to have a leg amputated. He had the leg preserved somehow for just that reason.
herin - being turned into a diamond is an idea I liked for my own earthly remains. However, the process costs around £10,000.
