Hello, Une -- I am fine as are the rest of the family... My mother in law went into the hospital yesterday as she had suffered a heart attack previously in the week. What she thought was gall bladder pain was actually pressure resultant from the attack

They put a stint in place yesterday and she is doing just fine.... Kirsten and her sister spent the majority of the afternoon and evening with her yesterday. She is strong and vital and will most probably be released tomorrow

Personally, we think that what brought this on is that Mimi has not fully processed all of her grief and guilt over her husband passing away last year. As a result she has been pushing herself too hard to do things outside of her house and ignoring proper care for herself

She, herself, proposed a plan to sell her house in order to give the monies from the sale to her children before it becomes an inheritance to keep things a bit simpler for us. So we are all going to be a bit more active in the process of helping her get the things done to make it ready for the market
beth -- not as rough as some of our fellow Babblers, though I definitely count all of you folks as one of the major blessings in my life

Yep -- about 15 minutes away from us. Her other daughter lives on the other side of the state, but that won't stop her from doing what she needs to to help her mother out
that make it much easier. I'm about 2 1/2 hrs away from my folks, and when crisis occurs it is hard to be there for them quickly

There are many animals which I would never ever encourage the killing of by buying some meat or in any other way supporting the killing thereof. But now and then there comes a chance to try a new meat without doing so. Like when a friend came back from Iceland with whale, and invited us to dinner. Well, you know, completely against whaling... but not eating it would have done no good to any whale so we tried it.

Hee, hee! I was trying to say that it was warm once and the lady I was talking to thought I was asking her name (longer to explain than necessary, I think), and it degenerated into comedy VERY quickly.
The Dutch are very logical about guessing English, though. There was a fellow at the stable where I worked back when I was illegal (fully naturalized nowadays). He was working on building a platform. At one point he pointed out a beam and toild me he needed to extenuate it.
you know what else I love? when two people who do not speak the same language can manage to communicate when necessary - happens in emergencies, romances, etc. - very beautiful to see
Walter says several things in English with Dutch grammar, by the way. Absolutely charming. "What are you a nice mama!" "There flies an airplane!" "How is it with you today, Daddy?"

Third languages are handy that way. I mean one that two people have in common that is neither person's native language. I can speak to an Iraqui volunteer at work in Dutch, and there is a Russian lady at Walter's playgroup with whom I also speak Dutch. Oh, and the owner of the Polish place where I get our pierogis.

Hey, kje-- my grandfather is OK again, back at his excellent care facility, and they are not putting him on hospice because they found out about a thingy that they could sign which gives the (experianced) staff much wider discretion about when he can just be treated for stuff there. Turns out they HAD to call an ambulance for most little things; liability issue.

My Grandfather is 90, so he has lived a very long life, he has dementia and is not responding well Grandma decided not to put a feeding tube in him...
SO we are waiting and seeing, but I heard he "rallied" recently, so I expect thats the final rally.
But he is very very old and lived a very good life.

That is sort of like what happened to my grandmother's sister. She was terribly ill with pancreitis. They made that decision too. Then she rallied and had a great few months, and died quietly in her sleep. At 98.

I hope your dad can collect himself and go there. He'll regret it if he doesn't.

Hi DC...as a history major, I've had some difficulty with the various interpretations of the "founding fathers'" intentions on a lot of things over the past two decades...
my grandfather was stoned as he walked on the streets of poland and he was so thrilled to be in america and be able to vote. lets instead celebrate that and lets not get into downward stuff and sprial down and be depressed. lets say how joyeous it is to live in the u.s. where we have such freedom. canada has it as well as britian, and other western nations. but the powerful nations coming up, the muslim world and china, dont have these freedoms at all. lets pray the u.s. continues as it is now forever. i read today that 17,000 iraqi 's are coming to the u.s. as political assylum victims and that scares me. who knows what new ideas they will bring. and eventually it will be like france which has a huge problem with their muslim population today. hail to the wonderfulness of the u.s.

I seem to know as much as many nurses about SOME subjects through self-education. My aunt was appalled by some of the one at the hospital my grandfather just got out of.

I think that there could be some improvement with regular use of cranberry capules. I don't meana cure but just maybe some improvement. What's your view on that? has she tried water ae4bics or swimming? both are no impact and are a great way to ease into fitness
And the weight issue is compounded by her diabetes. Now that we are truly married on all levels - spiritual, religious, personal, and legal per state requirements - she is on my medical insurance and we will be able to address this problem safely
A while ago, not knowing my weight, sincne the scales were hidden, I concluded that I probably couldn't actuallly run to save my live any more, but also worked out the athe adrenalin might make it possible for me to save my chuildren and step cild, shou8ld thingiu,,y whatsits occur/

ardilla -- the prob there is what to do with the kids? we don't have the money to join any sort of spa or gym, and my hours at work preclude getting there without the kids as well

Who knows -- maybe if the doctor says that her weight is a serious enough issue, the insurance can help cover some of the costs -- getting to the gym wouldn't be an issue as we currently live across the street from a YMCA

Grey last year i weighed 246pounds. Today i weigh 227pound. THis is after half a year of changing my diet and exercise.

And I know weight loss is a journey of many small milestones -- all the studies I have read point out that losing more thatn 1-3 pounds a week can be more dangerous than the excess weight due to the shock to the system -- heck I need to lose about 25 pounds myself, so it is going to be an interesting fun ride
