yeah ... that's kind of where I run up against barriers too. I have done on and off over a few years. It's the one thing I'd really like to do, and I know I'm really good at it, but I've only had experience working on scientific manuscripts and a few published short stories. And I can't work out how to get from there to trying to make it a profession.

but my chances at "regular" consistent proofing jobs have been few...
there are courses around for £500 - £1000, but I'm wary of those, just because I suspect I'll be paying a lot to learn English grammar and punctuation.
do you know what I am missing?
Can you find any temp printing pers. agencies that handle proofreading perhaps. My husband used to run one here many moons ago but I am afraid there is little demand for proofreaders nowadays...he now deals with desktop publishing staff

I hate seeing spelling mistakes in published stuff
There's an article I read in our Sun. paper called Once Upon a Crime... and it is always covered in spelling errors, typos, poor grammar and even the names are switched at times.
ick. that's just horrid.
I was reading a book a few weeks ago and found 2 stupid spelling mistakes within pages. I was so annoyed I gave the book away
that happens often... since the onset of spellcheck, it's even worse
oh gosh yes. it's unnecessary and just ruins my enjoyment of a book
if a book has an email address, I email them about all errors, and I express my displeasure / disappointment

ta muchly. we have a bay in our recovery room, directly opposite theatre 2 door. problem. the doctors, nurses and techs all use the patient door, instead of the side doors into theatre. if my patient is conscious and fully aware of what is going on, when the staff fling open the theatre door, the patient can see directly into the theatre.

when i work dee, i try to always put a half-curtain acrooss the foot of the bed/trolley, but if i'm flat out at the other end of the room, i simply don't notice until it's too late.

yes granny, they do that at the hospital I am at... when I am being prepped for surgery, I am facing away from theatre each time... people are coming and going preparing the theatre and they don't want patients freaked by looking in, so we are 'parked' with our head facing well away
also, the area between the ends of the walls dividing RR from the theatre corridor is very wide, about 15 feet, have thought of suggesting plastic opaque doors, but the area is too wide. * sigh *

I had a good friend who loved chocolate more than anything in the world, and was allergic to it. It was absolutely tragic, just like Romeo and Juliet.
I had IBS which is now undercontrol but at times of stress it kicks off again. The dairy, alcohol and caffine are trigger foods, so I'm not intollerant but they don't help if I am ill. Ice cream is a complete non starter no matter how well I am.
