hi Ata
G'd morning Ata Hari. Hobbit has been indulged in unwarranted energy burning? :p
much energy burning. generally in the chasing of small rodents with big fluffy tails
Good for a few hours then.
stuck at 70 - bbl
unfortunately, the small rodents with big fluffy tails tend to be able to climb trees and Hobbit can't, which annoys her greatly
Later jj
If you were a proper dog owner, you'd facilitate Hobbit's needs by carrying it up the tree, as a minimum.
says the woman who keeps her cats in a cold, windy shed :P
Those are the best kind of sheds. Musn't spoil them. :p
how's uni and emma?
Good Morning
g'morning Merk
morning merk
G'd Morning Merk.
Emma was in the fictitious dog house last week for chewing one of Uni's books. Uni's been busy...

hi Haz & Birdee

oops wrong bird - Chickie!
Good morning/evening all.
Go for it Merk, it would help me a lot. G'd morning hodag, Haz!
No! Just the usual ca4/5 from next door prancing about as if they owned the place.
lol Lynx. Ata, Uni was ready to spit nickels. She was not happy with the cat of glory
hiya lyn!!
howdy Haz and lorip!!!
I'm pretty sure if you payed any actual attention to Spangle, you'd have seen a tiny white with black kitten in the corner Haz.
Hello chickie!
payed????? ACK! Paid
I had Dodi Fayed on the brain. No. Really.
lool welcome back Mma Presidente
You're right, Lori, who knows what goes on out there? Out of sight out of mind.
Pets should be seen and not heard, and light on the "seen"
Was it an important book? Please tell me it was Dickens, he deserves to be chewed
ad 5?
***Disclaimor: I disavow any knowledge of having put any thought in to usage of 'payed'. We now return you to your regular programming.***
Chewed up and sp4/5 out.
Lori,pets are wonderful!1

ty
You're welcome.
How is everyone today?
az 5?
hi Nonnie
Cool, which is a great relief
az plus an anagram of the opposite of cold
ty haz
You're welcome.
I was mildly amused to read of a parent trying to ban an Atwood book (Handmaid's Tale) from school reading list, not because she's an overrated writer (which she is) but because of the "morality".
Life is good Nonnie, for you too I hope.
not to bad Nonnie just wishing it was warmer!
didnt get az word
If you work out what the opposite of cold is (three letters) just keep working until you get the right order.
Good to hear, Lori and life is treating me well. Sending a cup of hot chocolate and a warm blankie chickie's way...:)
there's been sooo much wangst over that annoying book
ah ty
I never understood the book banning thing.
wangst...I like it!
Couldn't agree more Ata.
ch 6/24 the first one please?
TY nonnie we're at a -9* as I type brrrrr!
ch6/24 - looks vaguely like the speediest land animal. ch, a vowel and the initials that tell you when you expect to get somewhere. (or rearrange a beverage)
lynxxx, it is your summer now, right? Has it been a hot one?
oh my, chickie--bundle up!
ty haz

bye bye chickie
Later hodag, great to see you again, stay warm!
No don't feel Guilty at all Nono. Be blessed that she choose you and she would appreciate your decision that she isn't in pain and hurt any more. I bet you were the best fur mum ever to her and even though the decision is hard it was the right one for her
TY Lori. I sold my chickens,I may go back to hodag! :)
CHickie why did you sell the chickies?
I keep telling myself that Herin
Yes, I had read that hodag. You made the decision that was right for you. Admit it, you're warmer now.... :)
OUR winter has been so ferce this year I couldn't take care of them like I should so I sold them to a farmer that had a heated coop.
Well that is a good thing. I was a bit worried about chickens being so cold
Only glance back in time for perspective, always look ahead.
I do miss them but I couldn't take it if they had frozen!
true
wise words lori
It's true cross. Never forget where you've been, but never be afraid to look ahead.
OH and Pandora is letting Lucius eat out of her bowl not hissing which is a good sign
and you can see it in her eyes the oh i have to look no i must not
that is good herin our old 14 year old kitty would remove serius blacks face if he tried to dig in at her bowl
I thought so too
had a cat like that at one time Crossy. She was a true witch!
she passed away at age 17 and went out hissing!
she is a good cat but our new 1 year old seruis is rubbing her fur the wrong way
lol Nono, true to form right to the very end. Good for her. :)
bye
Lucius is only 16 weeks
the other cats so much as walked past her and they got hissed at and possibly even batted

I think we should reclaim the name "hussein" to mean intelligent and peace-loving
sadam is too closely associated with that name
going to watch TV...later, babblers
that's why we should do it
amen, harpjane. I've known several "husseins", none of them anything like saddam!
that would be a good idea
phat

all those whiners worried about the cold in DC....lol
Morning everyone - I am wondering when they will stop calling him the first black president and just the president. His blackness is NOT part of the job description.

i'd give it about three days owl!
nuts!
I hope so harp.
I also hope no one expects instant fixes. Took the AH 8 years to get us into this mess. Will not be fixed overnight!

Hi Mixi!

go hoot
you need snow owls for this week
or snowy owls
Good day, fellow Babblers!
Hi Judi!
No snow here. Memphis is in a dead zone. Goes around us. But snowy owls are easy. Later.
we got a powder sugaring of snow today and all the schools are closed
Sheesh! Had to take Walter to school in the trike through nearly a bizzard a few weeks ago. Now it's just raining.
Just a dusting here in Delaware over the weekend. Baby stuff.
About 4 yrs ago, when I was living in Knozville, I woke up to what looked like powdered sugar. THAT is all the snow I've seen!
ay halp?
Knoxville!
help? maybe that's my problem
it's still flurrying around
Consider yourself truley blessed, hootowl.
OK, time to put on laundry and wash the younger monkey. Catch you folks later!
I've got a couple a inches of snow and it's still snowing.
ay4/7 and plural Hindi for Grandmother
Later, Monkey!
I WANT more
Ooh, found the 9 as a send off! Anyway, bye folks...
Does your town have plows? Nonexistant around here. I do remember on my second coming here, there was ice on the ground. Quite thick. That was when I found out they had NO means of clearing snow or ice.
thanks
salt trucks here
yw lexleeanne
Three streets in the county get plowed. Mine is first.
Blessed? I'm from NY. Snow is easy. Just have to assume everyone else is an idiot driver. Here, you don't need snow for that.
OPTional teacher workday - I opted OUT
az?
I too am a native NYer, hootowl. Sneering at snow was commonplace where we lived.
Have I mentioned that I detest Comcast!?
morning again all..... can someone please hint the ay + plural hindi grandmother... I googled it but what it tells me is not available on the grid
ay -+ *** I learned something new - I am having an *** moment

Lex - I just looked outside. There IS snow on the ground! About 1/2" but since it's 29 outside it's not going anywhere. Snuck in when I wasn't looking too. Wasn't there at 6:30 when I got up!
Clue for first ch6/24, please?
Just read back. Mine does it when ever it wants!. Makes no difference if I'm on or hibernatine. Can be a dozen times in an hour or once a day. May try going back to regular cable
wow- lucky you!!!
my problem is with the laptop connection, not the dsl
Hootowl - if Verizon Fios is available in your area, I highly recommend it.
thanks grant
hello everyone
The worst part is the BF had DSL and I persuaded him to get Comcast. Had it in Knox and no problems. Memphis seems to bring out the worst in companies that come here.
trapped
Lost a message to a line drop again. I think I'm going to get off and take a break before I try to throw this thing thru a wall! Good luck everyone. See ya later. poof
Comcast does suck out loud. So glad we don't have to deal with them anymore.

oh wow! Hope it goes well for you all
read your profile the other day Sprite, wonderful news
yeah me too. I think it will.
thanks flosey :) Something good huh!
pugs, it kinda sounds like a sneeze... does that help?

ha7: maybe per***s + not heavy
thanks sprite, great clue

ah good, I had trouble finding both

great monkey
have been in and out - have to go to village soon, then home to dress for luncheon - busy day, and next 2 the same
it is too early for breakfast :(
you're a busy lady, flosey! I hope you will have fun.
aw mrP, when you are up it is never too early!
sometimes sprite! but yes, it's pretty much all fun
ah good flosey :) Enjoy then, and rest later!
hate missing inauguration but taping it
am preparing lunch for tomorrow's bridge lunch - for 4 only though
will jilli be there?
no, jilli isn't involved with this group
we play in same league on Monday nights
ah ok, was hoping you would give her a hug from me. Miss playing with her!
will do so sprite, with pleasure
thanks flosey :D And have one yourself too *hug*

so? Listen to your body and FEED it!
ooh mrp, you should be sleeping
LOL!! fair enough... you have a good night
pug, it was a tough word even for my best monkey, lol. Like the opposite of light, change last 2 letters into first 2 of flying saucer
flosey, can't sleep! bloody cat woke me up at 2.45am and it is sooooo hot and muggy.
ty vm spritester!!
ah, understand, when I lived in Toronto we had summers like that
they are praying on the steps
oh my
my pleasure! Must poof now, bye *hugs*
and said God
it was a wonderful prayer
now aritha franklin
sing My country tis of thy
she looks beautiful
quite a hat!!!
you don't have to give us a running commentry sue, most of us are watching it
oh ok, sorry
we are watching it live here too
but I have to say she is making the most of her moment!!
rather overdoing it, if you ask me
she put some soul into that song
the inaug is going to be over the top chris.
Don't like the way she sang it -- trills and things broke up the flow of the words.
at the risk of upsetting most of the babblers here - that's the americans for you
Chris...that's usually just the entertainers...a lot of us 'americans' would rather hear it the way it was written...especially our National Anthem
hello to all the babblers who arent watching a glorified welcome party!
I meant to mrp's comment
loved her hat, loved her rendition...
I lost all respect(HA, a pun) for her when she showed up , I think , at Clinton's party. She had 100 lbs of fur on!! She looked like something a giant cat coughed up! Not that you asked, sorry.
me too, kje..it's Aretha..it's what she does
I'm a Brit, in US for almost 48 years, and I can't agree - there are people in any country who overdo things. A beautiful song that she spoiled for a lot of us/
chris, I am not an american! LOL, just waving the flag today
well it is a monumental moment...and you can't blame them for wanting to celebrate
and I find it hilarious that someone from a country with a queen and more pomp than ever existed here in the US thinks this is over the top... lolol
I am sitting comfortably in Sydney Australia in the stinking hot!
Oops ...
kje, I certainly don't have a queen, except on our money
sorry mrp... blwoinbg cool air your way
blwoing
LOL blowing
try again kje
keep blowing kje!! I need frost!
oooh - i love this copeland piece!
three's the charm! :)
Anyway, after the past eight years ... who wouldn't go over the top
this music is exquisite! Happy Joyous Day to all of us!
I would be celebrating the departure of your president!!!
We now have a new president!
at least the americans got to vote their leader in - we're stuck with an unelected leader who's systematically destroying our country
I sympathise with those musicians trying to play in that cold... can't imagine trying to keep a clarinet in tune in that weather
oh chris... I know... I read the Mail and it is aweful!
that is some group of musicians, wow
we can choose who we want
your lips would freeze to the reed kje!
YoYo Ma couldn't use his usual cello, it's too cold
12:01, we have a new president! YES YES YES YES!
have been sitting on my last word for 15 minutes watching the festivities! any help please for the DA6?
interesting christine... makes sense
ch 1212 haven't seen you for ages!
u know, they kept saying even tho he hasnt been sworn in, he is officially pres now..??...did that happen at midnight? i am learning something new here
Hi harp! I've been here, just unnaturally quiet :) But today I am bursting with joy!
ooh...goosebumps
not yet krista
noon, krista... and technically not official until sworn in
He becomes President at 12 noon, regardless of being sworn in. Here we go!!!
What a day, it's like seeing your kid graduate - a whole new time ahead. He became Pres at noon, even if the oath hadn't been administered.
the oath is a formallity...he became pres at 12:00..with or without the oath
ah ty
here he comes.... congratulations america! you have a new prezzie!!
The 20th Amendment provides for the transition at exactly 12 noon.
WHEEEEE
WHOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
he stuttered! that way the comedians have something to talk about!
YIPEEE YAHOOOO!!!
yay! can't possibly be worse than the last 8 years, even if he tried!
YAY!!!!!!!!!! we did it!
Now the Trinity Church is ringing changes for change! See my profile!
it's new age
well, never watched an inaug before... big affair!
It's so amazing to see the coverage from all over the world! Very humbling.
what a long road, in so very many ways
there are 1 billion people watching ch1212
oooh, speech! *clap clap clap*
hooray for Obama and hooray for the brave Americans that out him there
I can't remember ever being this emotionally engaged in an election
ooohhhh (clap clap) okay, let's quiet down and listen! :)
that's cool, harp!
bbl
PUT not out!!sounds like he was in the closet!!
lol christine... i am in awe at everyone of these inaugurations... the peaceful change over of power is a truly amazing thing
he's not reading from a teleprompter! Wow.
wow... he is spelling out the crisis!
A lot of people feel W stole the elections, then proceeded to steal eight years; there are some things that can never be corrected, many lives shattered by having a buffoon for a president.
hello all this is so exciting
Hi all......I think he's a wonderful guy!
I like him... he has hope
um, is this the actual inaugural address? or is that before Congress in a while!
.....and handsome too....lol
i'm so pleased that you in other countried are watching..thanks :)
countries
Hussein actually means Handsome
He is so eloquent, so elegant! No Harp, this is his inaugral address. The State of the Union address comes later.
krista... pleasure to do so
So his name is B Handsome Obama!
I like that he is a young man... going to be around for a long time (God willing)
and indeed he is...
i worry about his safety like no other president
me too krista
me too
my neigghbor's 7year-old grandson is named Hussein, and he's soooooo excited to have the Pres 'named after him'.
I haven't had this much hope in a long long time
Krista - we watch from around the world as what happens in the USA affects the planet
if the secret service managed to protect the most hated leader on the planet (Bush) I guess they can handle this
me either, westford. This was the first election I donated to and worked for, not just voted in.
afternoon all, and woot!
hope is what gives you a new beginning
I wonder what Rush Limbaugh is saying right now? He's usually on at this time
we all want to have a better worldwide reputation, elbbab
hopefully everyone has been preempted including radio
woot indeed! hi Gwen
My hope is Rush is practising what he preached when Bush jr. won --- that now we have a new President, we SUPPORT him and become American, not partisan.
fathead Limbaugh
I hope all the ignorant racist aswipes are dropping from strokes as we speak
Good afternoon everyone....and congratulations to all you lucky Americans on your new President!
that's what rush has been saying so far
funny enough, I don't see the colour of his skin, I see a tasteful, intelligent man who looks to care
thank you flask
ty flask...on behalf of all us lucky americans. :D
VERY intelligent MrP
that's what I see too mrp
thankfuuly most of us did MRp he DID win by a landslide
thank you, Flask!
mrp...some people see the black, some see the white..I see the best choice
I know, MrP! I was listening to the media earlier going on about 'historic' because of the color, and had a moment of 'what?' because it is indeed his heart that shines through. I read his books and understand the importance of the racial issue in his election, but I personally think it is his light and heart that we need.
I hope and pray for his safety.....and that no foolish people are allowed to bring any harm to him or his family....
i think he is a visionary, with the great ability to inspire people for many different reasons
Hear! Hear!
it shows you how bad the last 8 years have been...even racists and right wingers voted for him
fireworks for the invisible pug
well done Pug...wtg....
Yay pug! This is a hard grid.
yay pug
yay pug!!
Pug can u clue me ha7/36 please?
WTG pug!!
uh oh..he's losing my kids' attention...the nintendo ds just came out
lol....
ha7---ha+ *ut on the **** at nite?
lol, krista --- I understand the oldest Obama daughter brought her blackberry with her to the ceremony.
Obama rocks, but he's no Transformer...
pug...the da6?
Did she? That's funny..prob texting her friends..
thanx Pug!
well she's still a kid!
if weaselly is a real word, how come i can't have st6?
sure he is Krista he's going to transform the world
flask...drop the first letter and get another word
Oh...you're absolutely right, westford! So he is. :)
and dare i say, woot! again
i find the relative quiet of the crowd very interesting. i remember other inaugural addresses that were interrupted every other sentence by applause. i think he has everyone spellbound.
double woot
you're right phaeton...already got it....but thanx anyway!
It's a good day for wooting.
i was so excited i got the car washed.
do you have da6?
you're right, Feather.they are very quiet
How he can stand there and speak with such to so many millions of people watching...and absolutely no prompting...just amazes me!!
da6---da+ S.Palin liked to say "you be****".
very good speech... *clap clap clap*
very heartfelt!
Hallelujah! (clap, clap, clap) (wipes away tears)
it's very hard to properly listen to it with a tired, bored 4 year old beside me!
flask, years of experience. plus he has a high level of *calmness* juice, to coin a phrase
or DA6--da+ wager + 1/2 a dance
ignore that got distracted
i'd love to be so unflappable...is flappable a word? I
thanks...got it!
flappable? sure it's a word and it's worth about 60 points LOL
hee hee
mirriam webster says yes
well then, I am flappable :) I flap
no points for attelet, waaaaaa!
'Love that casts a widening pool of light' I like that!
these a's are flapping me...may I have a clue for any a word from the corner, please?
i just found 'em. ay4 = add sound of bliss, then plural
excellent poem
What a very odd poem - think kids in schoolwill need to learn/recite it?
at4, a + type of dancing, and plural
no but I"m sure it will be published
off to eat now, bye bye and happy obama day!
ty for clues Gwen..bye now
I have the poem Maya Angelou wrote for Clinton's inauguration
what was the poet's name? is she the poet laureate?
ELizabeth something Krista
i do too, westford..seems like i just bought it a few years ago, wow
I think Andrews
hi btw
oh, thanks dr..and hi :)
yvw
she is not the poet laureate
I like that phrase he just said "Help us to turn TO each other, and not ON each other" Amen!
her name is Elizabeth Alexander and she is a professor at Yale
amen
hm, can't find who is, jm
I like this speech -Rev. Lowery?
cool... anthem time and it isn't by a dicky celebrity
LOL!

let's all bid George a 'fond' farewell
some trolling, christine
Bush, get in you chopper and go back to Texas post haste
trolling?
bye george!
actually he will feel more at home in Connecticut! lol
he's more Texan than Yankee
as a native Texan (unlike Bush) I deny that
he has a fake accent and a fake attitude
wasn't he born there when Daddy was an oil man?
but I do agree with you jm Texans are beautiful people
phantom elephant
his daddy was a resident of Texas when he was born but listen to his brother's accents (or lack there of)
that's a big phantom kje
I'd rather listen to anything else
In my young and silly days, I was married to a Texan ... all my exes live in Texas
the only time I ever thought there was a human quality to the man was when I saw a picture of him holding his newborn twins
there is a song in that Christine
we only lived in Texas for 8 months but I swear I have never met friendlier people
bbs
I think W is probably not a bad man, but he's not politically savvy, not exactly educated or able to speak publicly, and then he had that evil man for his VP ... what hope did we have?
right Christine
bye peri
I'm friendly!
I know lol
In honor of Mr. Obama becoming the 44th President of the United States, I have decided to make myself an Honory American.....
:-D
welcome movieman
same here movieman :)
My ex always clainmed I only married him to claim Texas citizenship (Iknow) and to lose my maiden name ... not true, but when I was y'n's, I was in love, and thought that was cute ...
welcome mr p!
ein ich american
I like Lyle Lovett's song That's Right You're Not From Texas but Texas wants you anyway.
I sing from time to time

Thanks OC! I don't know how everyone else feels, but I am thrilled
thanks orange cat, it is appropriate -- our system allows for an orderly change in administrations, even when the old and new are at odds on many issues. It is a really cool day.
hey mrp!

I know of many Reepublicans who voted for the party's choice, but now admit they'r e sooo glad Obama won. He really does seem to be the people's choice

sure I would be happy to be your. . . . ;-) oooh you mean Friends. Yes, I am with my Quaker family in Washington, DC today
LOL jmc
nifty neat-o! I have ancestors who were Friends, and some friends who are now. :-D but yes, "regular friends" would be nice, too.
lol deal stidmama!
"yacht" is my phantom today... I believe it's moored in the caribbean somewhere...
around here we talk about capital F Friends and small f friends
can I join you on the yacht?
And me and me, please please please
I'll bring the rum (I can run by home first)!
oh yes! toddies for all!!!!
Thats a deal
yeah on the yacht they won't even have to be hot
'cause it's a hawt yawt...
lol stid
rofl stid
my phantom is letter/litter
yes that r is in the wrong place today
ap6/21?

ys, thank you cait. tht was a strange word
Dont thank me ..thank the clever people in morewords!!LOL
A device consisting of a long suspended pole weighted at one end and having a bucket at the other end, used in the Near East and especially Egypt for raising water, as for the irrigation of land.
ok - I give up. Can I please have a clue for the fy? My last word and then I can get to work!
hoot sounds like a boxing match but with a double cons
Good evening, all!
jmc thank you, I must have seen something like that but didnt know the name
Hi MG
TY - Got it just as you said it! thought i had tried every combo!
Congrats hoot !!!
Time to do housework (oh Joy!) BB in the evening to clue.
Yay Hoot!
tytytyty
Bye hoot
wtg hoot (too bad about the housework though) lol
hey babblers! How is the grid?
hello everyone!
hi beach and monkey
hi aslindy
Hi Beach and Lindy!
sorry all, had to get the kids off to school
MONKEY!!!!
hello all
Hi beach and lindy
not getting the clue for the sh6
STID!!!!
wb peri
Hi Peri!
hey peri and merk and beach (hoping I am not leaving anyone out)
hi and happy glorious day
hello bichon!!!
Hi bichon, indeed it is
they are giving out free cosmetics in some of the dept stores and I got a Lancome mascara
sh6= sh4/6 + last vowel and a constanent
Yes, this is a remarkable moment, Bichon.
I usually buy make up in the drugstore
great clue jmc
oooh. nice, peri! (better hide it from nancy boy...)
I stole it stid
I gave up wearing makeup about 15 years ago
I bought makeup about 20 years ago... stil using it. I don't wear it all that often.
LOL jmc
I have one sh6 kind of fish, it that the only sh4
I wear for filming and speeches
yes peri, extend the fish
please tell me you aren't using 20-year-old mascara!
makeup? what's that? does chapstick count?
filming? speeches???
yes peri that is the right one
MOnkey Games, you must throw all of it out, contaminated!!
LOL feather! how's nick doing now?
hi feather
Hi feather
No, OK, I usually don't bother with mascara... but I did get some about 9 years ago. Using that when we go to the opera every, ummm, 9 years.
OK, I use plain chapstick... I don't count that as makeup. It's more like lotion for your lips.
threw up on the way to the babysitter's today. had to turn right back around.
It still looks OK, Peri...
oh, feather.... that's awful
there is chapstick with a pale color to it
*nodding head at old makeup comments* bacteria can grow quickly in that medium. dry cakes of blush might be okay, but not liquids and mascara
Poor kid!
doesn't matter, Monkey, throw it out
poor feather!
(((((((feather)))))))
nick's been napping for 2 hours so far, hope he goes 2 more. he looked like he needed it.
looks don't count for contamination, my dear.
thanks for the sh6, never would have found it
look and smell do not necessarily indicate contamination, monkey. be safe please (says the woman who has conjunctivitis from no one knows where)
you don't want bacteria in your eyes.
I could nap...
9 years is a long time for any makeup, I don't like throwing stuff out but I don't want to get sick
me either peri!
No! I won't! It is a set of colors that suit me, all of it powder. I will get more lipstick though if I ever go somewhere fancy again... and mascara...
When I was young [many eons ago] I wore all sorts of eye make up. Now I rub my eyes so much from allergies the thought of ey makeup is repugnant
OK, these are fair points, but this IS all powder and very dry.
powder should be okay, monkey. but yes, replace the mascara especially.
(ssshhh, i think i'd feel the same way monkey!)
Many years ago, I began to think... "If women are the fairer sex, why are they the ones who wear makeup?"
stid go and have a nap and come back later
personally monkey I would be careful about things near your eyes and not worry so much for the rest
bbs mailman here
Just some shades of eye shadow and some powder blush. Yes, don't worry, I would certainly replace any liquids or gels at this opint.
how fishy is the eye word?
later peri
did i miss much between pres. obama's speech and the luncheon? was putting daniel down for a nap.
very fishy and smelly stid
Dunno. Was putting Walter to bed for the night.
Time for me to go and cook, see you all tomorrow, bye
I hate to hear it is fishy since I haven't found it
no no, I have to play now (just passed halfway because after I take care of my eyes I have to study if I can see the books.
later caitlyn!
Bye Cait!
not much...just the menu for the luncheon and what Mrs Obama was wearing
Same here, jmc...
lots of happy people
bye caitlyn
no, there wasn't a lot, though it seemed the last prayer (really old man) was quite nice.
Just as well then.
il4/4
darn, missed that.
il4/4 babblet
oh phaeton! thanks!!!!
Ah, THERE it is!
Thanks.
you can undoubtedly down load it
Gold sparkly thing with a fuzzy sweater thingy
hey monkey -- I told aussieme what you said (and phaeton) and she said to give her hugs and thanks to everyone.
yw stid and MG
*attention is "got"* gold sparkly thingy??? where? where?
I missed the speech-- cooking (very happy with my Xmas present, a Szechuan cookbook...). It'll be on YouTube by now I'm sure.
oh drat. there's the kettle
Good stid...our prayers are with her
Gold sparkly thing with a fuzzy sweater thingy???
On Mrs. Obama
OK, thank you. Tell her my thoughts are with her.
I'm not into fashion talk
anyone know who said the closing prayer so i can look it up?
red purse too
Was it that guy with the Col. Sanders facial hair? 'Cause I caught part of that and wondered who he is. Seemed quite dignified and that.
Rev. Joseph Lowery gave the last prayer
sorry, missed that when i dried my hari
*hair
Ah, thanks.
Rev. Lowery, an old civil rights leader. His speech ended with a funny twist
it was a good prayer
lunch! bbl
thank you. doubt it's available yet, but will see.
later phaeton!
much better than the opening prayer
bye phaeton
Bye Phae!
I was more pleased with the opening prayer than I thought I would be. Considering the bad press the guy had received. That's pretty generous from me, an agnostic
I thought the opening prayer was offensive, actually. Not what it could have been given the speaker, but still very obviously a slap in the face to people of other beliefs.
i wasn't able to pay enough attention to the opening one.
the honeymoon is over
Personally, I find any public prayer offensive. But the reality is what it is.
Wish I'd caught it so I'd know how I feel about it...
;-)
I was out of there as soon as he said "God..."
Ah, well, I do side with you on that Erda.
Thanks, Monkey, nice to be in THAT minority!
Still, maybe too sharp a break from fundamentalism could shock people...? Need to ease into it? Being slightly facetious, of course...
personal expressions of belief don't offend me - sponsored expressions of belief in public spaces do... it's hard to explain.
No, I totally get that, Stid. I am a live and let live kind of person. Too many don't, is all...
The inaugural is a mixture since it is paid for primarily with private funds
anyone want a piece of chocolate cake, Hurshy's recipe
sorry no sweets for me sigh
*dives in to center of cake* oh sorry, anyone else?
*wicked grin*
I feel anyone has a right to express any personal belief as long as they're not trying to promote it at people.
fundamentalism will eventually sink from its own lack of substance, but it will take another few generations
now, now, stid
NO SWEETS???? *hands on hips* that is the height of heresy. blatantly blasphemous. the very idea!
you look a mess stid!
I mean, big scary grey area... sure, I don't mind some posters inviting people to participate, etc. Although the League Against Cursing posters here have me livid right now...
oh I don't know, I think chocolate is "my color"
*sneaks behind stid while she gets onto her chocolate soapbox to steal the rest of the cake*
lol
oh no! the cake! the cake! *sits in last puddle of choclit and sobs*
*feels slightly guilty, pushes half back to stid*
I had to either give up sweets or alcohol and it was an easy choice
"Any time a curse word is spoken, something is broken..." with a picture of a fallen wine glass... I mean, come ON!
seeing you two confirms I made teh right choice! lol
seems a little extreme MG
Yeah, and that's a mild one. They're a;; over right now.
makes me wanna say "oh **&^%%^ that" lol
Stid, remember tomorrow is the day I make doughnuts...
LOL monkey! sounds like the power of wishful thinking... imagine. If humans had the power to speak and thereby cause things... *shrug* if that were true, then the world would either be MUCH worse -- or much better.
that's right monkey! is that your tomorrow or my tomorrow?
EXACTLY, Feather!
I must be sufferering from densitude today, but I can't get the ty4/7
Ummm... Wednesday.
*enjoys cake with feather*
glad you two like it

Voltaire: What is tolerance? -- it is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let us pardon reciprocally each other's folly -- that is the first law of nature.

Hi kje!
oh good now the people here are talking about conspiracies!

A frenchman by any other name would still be unintelligible??? *wicked grin*
We are?
LOL stidmama
Some Southern Baptists quote Voltaire -- I hang out with strange folks
actually, when we were in Canada last month the french channel had an historical fiction movie with Gerard Depardieu (sp?) it was marvellous, and I understood a lot of it
the question is the choices each of us make; those choices are the only ones we have some control over
amen BR
True. Very true.
so in order to get no blank tiles and lie down with a compress over my eyes I need the A in the second row down please? any of the three from that space would be lovely...

az

k, thanks
got the two azs already! thank you for the nudge.
There was this orchestra. They set out to perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony. As many of you will know, there is a long section in which basses are not called for, so the bass players decided to abscond to the basement and have a few drinks. They attached, by means of a long string, a small bell to the sheet music so that when the appropriate sheet was turned over they would know to go back up. But they had a few too many drinks. So of course as the symphony approached the finale it was a very tense moment: it was the bottom of the ninth, the basses were loaded, and the score was tied.
hehehe
*grrrrooooooaaaaaannnnn!*
*groan*
lol, that was actually pretty good!
ha mg
Thanks, my grandfather told it to me, along with the one about the dirtiest limerick contest... but to "tell" that one properly I would have to ty4 something generally considered ch4 -rude.

MG has walter done his tv gig yet?
Walter has in my opinion been handling this very well. He was warned that she was very ill and could die. He saw the body so he could understand more about it. But he is holding a lot in, and I have to guess what he's feeling.... but then he suddenly talks about it. He's doing OK, just working it through.
i can see daniel doing the same thing
ok, got 100, and my time is up for now. will bbl.
Yes, he's done the shoot, he had fun at times, "not so much" fun at other times, and definitely wants to do it again. It will be a poem, about 60 people each saying a word or sentence in Dutch. Oops, gotta go, back on commercials.

How was Slumdog similar to Gump?
ch6.24 virginal
i thought the imilarity was the basic frame of the story, g oing through the mai character's life and showinf improbable events...the original thing was the plot used to link them together. gump did not have a plot at all imho.

later lynxxx
ah, I guess he's still "with us" but nothing more is known.
According to Wiki, Senator Kennedy has died......
oh I hope not... I hope not.
Re Kennedy - he was removed from the Inauguration luncheon on a stretcher - no official news yet on his condition
"more soon" according to the Beeb
Ambulance with him in it is still on the Capitol grounds
ok, ignorant Brit here, I get really confused with the Kennedys. Who is Ted Kennedy compared to JFK?
brother
Ted was the youngest of the kennedy children
he is now considered the family head
they just said he had a seizure..not dead according to cnn
(hi all)
I thought so. TY. But I'm never sure!
Hello - just seen the news. What a day. Hope he is ok

it's hard when i'm working on the computer..Babble and FB are just so close..one little click away...remember when we had to actually get up and do something to avoid working? lol
My birthday's Feb 22 (same as Senator Kennedy and George Washington)
Just refreshed Wiki and now is says he HASN'T died.....
Reuters just says he collapsed
you're in pretty nice company there, MM
cn said he had a seizure and was still sezing while being taken out but does that make sense to anyone with med background? i mean do they move someone in the throes of seizure?
cn said he had a seizure and was still sezing while being taken out but does that make sense to anyone with med background? i mean do they move someone in the throes of seizure?
brain tumor-induced seizure most likely..my mother has brain tumor, but no siezures so far thank God
I also share a birthday with Drew Barrymore
MM, my brother's birthday is Feb 22
I'm epileptic, and healthwise I shouldn't be moved if I have a seizure
The only famous person I share my birthday with is Paul Gauguin
Cool, BB, what year was he born?
'62
they're saying senator byrd also collapsed
yes no doubt induced by tumor.
16 years before me then
I just saw that feather
stidmama mentioned that...poor old guy - don't know how he even gets around
then again if the seizure does not end or there are multiples...no choice, that's very bad
yeah, dont think it's typical to move them, but guess they just wanted to get him to hospital asap
Sky News Latest - The ailing politician was evacuated by medical staff, a congressional aide said. Mr Obama, who just hours before had been sworn in as the new American President, said his prayers were with Kennedy and his family. Mr Kennedy, 76, is battling a life-threatening brain tumor. The Massachusetts senator is the brother of the late President John F Kennedy and one of the Senate's most respected Democrats. Senator Robert C Byrd has also been taken from the lunch after falling ill.
and out of the dinner, she says cynically
yeah, brings the mood of the event down a bit to have seizing Senator around
Son demanding hot water bottle in bed - anyone would think it was cold out there!!! BRB

(we've been watching live feeds here at work since we don't have a TV)
watching the parade now, waiting to see if he'll get out and walk some
(er, no TV in the office, that is)
I've enjoyed it all, Pini..though this parade is a little dry
At the quick pace that vehicle is going, he'd make better progress if he were walking himself!
They've been saying this portion of the day is already an hour behind schedule.
Hey all - we have a new president!!! - newsflash....
You're quick, Trif!! What took you so long??? ;)
lol....hey, I just got here....
no no no we're having a nice inauguration free zone!! :P
OK...I just had to throw in a "moment"...done now! ;)
lol, yes, i'd be tempted to get out and walk..had a cab ride like that once..the cabbie was drunk, tured out!
* diving back into grid *
funny listening to the newscasters trying to guess where/if he'll get out
every potential landmark, they're saying "maybe here" etc etc
oh, sorry ata (blushing)
(they say officially when he gets to 15th St)
Ata...how many more to finish?
*giggles* lol its fine Pini!
and too blooming many!
(go figure...msnbc.com even has "commercial breaks")
how many's "too blooming many!"? ;)
he's getting out!
he's getting out looks like
I'm off to play with my photo editing thingummybob for a bit, see you all later, have fun :)
anyone watching NBC? Tom Brokaw's voice sounding strange, like he had a mild stroke or something
54!
*and the crowd goes wild*
I have more than you to finish Ata!!! :( 91 more to find here!
bye Liz
...and have to get back to work! *sniffle*
have fun, Liz! Give Oscar an Easter egg for me!
Bye Krista :))
(she's walking in high heels?)
bye pini
Bye Ata :))
*poof*
Have I just missed Liz?
they ARE reminding me of the Kennedys right now...so young and stylin'
Oh well. Another day.
hi Haz
Is this where I share my Obama story?
you have :(
oh yes! good timing!
Ata may have a few passes left ;)
What a shame to miss Liz. Oh well, another day.
how's the glittery one?
Here's my claim to Obama fame - taken from some notes I wrote in August 2006. ' Our last days in Kenya were spent relaxing in the hotel, although we managed to tumble upon the visit of a US senator, Barak Obama, who was staying in our hotel. We had taken the decision to explore a little of Nairobi, figuring that if we took no money with us stayed within walking distance of the hotel, on main thoroughfares, nothing too serious could befall us. We noticed a large crowd gathered around the railings of a park so naturally we decided to try to find out what was gong on. There were soldiers on horseback, crowds of dignitaries waiting around, lots of press photographers and a young tree sitting with a shiny spade at its base. A tree was obviously going to be planted by someone important and a passing Australian lady supplied the information that Barak Obama, whose father had emigrated from Kenya, was on a visit to the country. Fleets of cars arrived and from one stepped several ladies and little girls who had breakfasted at a table near us in the hotel. We had wondered who they were and now it all made sense! We watched the proceedings then finished our interrupted walk. Later that day, as we relaxed around the pool, the Senator and his considerable entourage, including the obligatory bodyguards, met with local business men and politicians. This was important people watching and an unexpected bonus! The poolside restaurant proved to be a favourite meeting place for Nairobi business people and the hotel’s gym seemed to be popular with executives who arrived in suit and tie, their gym bag replacing the briefcase for a lunchtime appointment with exercise.'
Spangle is rearranging her paws. Serious business.
oh haz, what a memory!
and yes, very serious business
I know. If we'd only taken a camera....
How cool!
It was just interesting after that to keep hearing his name mentioned; we'd never heard of him before.
And the rest is history.
amazing how that happens, isn't it?
" I knew him when..." . Hi Haz & Ata & Krista
I rememb er the first time I heard of him...my very conservative boss was talking about this dynamic young democrat senator that she really admired..knew he had to be something special
hey lynxxx
I know. Husband claims to have met Bill Clinton as well. It's a bit tenuous - his plane was held up at Belfast airport to let Airforce One land, he watched him coming down the steps.
Hello lynxxx.
LOL well that's nearer than most people ever get!
that counts..I think...:)
gah - I just found the Lickety word w. 8 to go
It's always slightly disappointing to see famous people. You expect them to have a silver glow about them and they don't.
and then just occasionally they do
Reuters reporting Senator Kennedy is concious, talking, and being assesed at the hospital right now,
they need to eat more chocolate wrappers ;)
John Barrowman?
that was copied from elsewhere, pardon the misspelling
LOL well of course!!!
well ....
oh good, Feather...byrd's office said he was ok...but didnt say if it was true that he was ill earlier
hello all
hi Stid
back for the last 65. maybe
byrd apparently was overcome with reaction to sen. kennedy
Um, are we all finished our studying, Stid???
weed - looks like he was treated t the capital and was alert when he left there
i'm testing daniel's patience today. not sure how much longer of obama coverage he's going to stand for!
hm. yes, referring to the historicity of the moment doesn't always work at that age!
send him to his room with a book... he'll forget all about yu : )
LOL the announcer for this section of the parade started a chant for the crowd!
i wish i had some of that anti-gas stuff for babies right now
lol, i know, Feather...Eric told me to call him RIGHT WHEN he was becoming president...didnt want to waste time on the unnecessary stuff
*hands feather clothespin for nose* the other stuff doesn't work so well
krista, I had the opposite - secondo's school called RIGHT at that moment, and I missed the actual swearing in! Thank goodness for you tube!
hello tri!
hello stid, and a very pleasant day to you! :)
no, he's fussy right now, and i'm suspecting gas pains, based on how i'm feeling with the same virus
sheesh, that was rude of them, Tri
shock of the world - it's snowing again here!
oh, poor baby... warm pack on the tummy?
afternoon babblers! Happy Inauguration Day to the Americans!
no, krista, bless them - they didn't know....
butt in air - gas rises : )
no tri! snow? there? what a surprise!
hey EvaN!
simethicone...i am so terrified of getting what the kids just had...can take anything but the barf virus
thank you evanadine!
at this point stid, we are referring to eight inches of snow as a "dusting"
oh, I see... *shiver* maybe the fog yesterday wasn't so bad. we actually are seeing some sunlight today.
i'm jealous of the snow..at least we finallly got our dusting
well down to 56 and seriously considering the list
( a true dusting...can't even sled on our hill..would just make mud)
krista, is that a photo of an actual crab, or is it a doctored photo?
hi Eva..did u see anything firsthand today?
both...i took this pic of a crab that i had caught coming after me...colored him a little in photoshop
yes, list.
it is really cool! well done you....
aw, why thank you...blue crabs are ptetty on their own, but I change Crabby's colors once in a while
there is no way there are 3 words of that middle column A
ah, there they are, in front of their new apartment... LOL
i cant find one of those words!
Trif, which one do you need?
ap 6/21 is one of them, the others are AZ 5 and plural
hello bichon! I have the 6, 21 and that is IT
when do these people get to sleep? their schedule has been unbelievable
az + Phillip R*** the novelist + pl
need the first CH 6 please?
oh, bless you bichon. NBT!
And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
sleep? sleep??? never at the right time, I am sure!
YAY tri!
the first part of a latin dance + greek letter
okay, *thinking*
GOT IT!
Cs conquered
ty bichon
*sudden inspiration* I wonder, if I stop using aggressive, militaritisc win-lose words... will the world improve?
hi babrab
hey BR
My last word can almost use the same clue - ta6.21 - a type of dance & greek letter. Bye everyone
le 5 --- add Harper Valley ***
thank you bichon, that one I would never have gotten
thanks for that lynxxx!
congrats, lynx, be well
how's about the FY ?
yvw Trif. HOw is weather in Boston? I return on Sat. night
and YAY lynxxx!
add most of the diminutive suffix
its snowing again, bichon. shocking, aint it?
hm. *thinking*
how novel, snow in winter
I wonder if it's snowing in CT. I'll call hubby later.
where are you now, bichon?
okay, I am REALLY ANNOYED that Michelle Obama's decision to be a mother first is being denigrated they are saying, " but I am sure that she will eventually do something wonderful." WHAT A CROCK!!!!
*back to puzzling over the fy*
wow, stid, missed that one. Gross!
Women will not be free from the bonds of tyranny until ALL career decisions are considered valid.
*stepping off soapbox*
had to be men who said such twaddle
thanks for hopping up there stid! rock on sister!
fy + internet cha***r
bichon, with regards to your profile - is lyme disease a problem in your area, and do you have to take extra precautions as you walk?
no, that is the saddest thing, it was a woman -- one who apparently chose "career over family" which is also valid, but she shouldn't be allowed to consider a woman who chooses family before career as somehow unfulfilled.
oh! thanks so much bichon
Trif, not any more than anywhere else. We've never gotten it, but one of our dogs did [even with tick prevention].
that is good to know, bichon!
down to 29. feather, are you still searching?
Everyone in tick areas should take the usual precautions; inspection, deet
look at the boots mrs. biden is walking in! I couldn't walk across a ROOM in those, let alone a parade!
hints for the A in the center column?
there are only rare ticks where we live, also no poisonous snakes, rare poisonous spiders... my kids are so spoiled. I always worried about them when we visited eastern washington
eva - do you have any of them?
az + author Phillip R*** + pl
you must be watching a different channel. Tom has the tivo set to ABC
az 5 6 ap 6
nope
PE 6/21 the first please? have the last one
stid, I was bitten by a spider last summer, and ended up in the hosp x 2 days....whilst there they ran a blood panel on me, and found that I did have Lyme...
evening everyone :-)
hello katie!
oh my trifioso! how frightening!
kittykitt!
hello katie!
hello all, taking a break from watching tv
pi 6 --- add diet light
Totally agree with your rant earlier stid & I don't have a family!
Did you have any Lyme symptoms
should be pe 6
1/2 lb Ata, not such a good week ;-(
the funny thing is, spiders never, ever bothered me, and now I will run on water to avoid them. and no, bichon, but then again, I wasn't looking for any. perhaps maybe I had the "flu" once, or was just extra tired, and never attributed it to the right place
thanks katie, I am getting better at articulating my rants (I hope) I used to get so worked up I couldn't say anyting!
1/2 lb *down* or 1/2 lb up??!
Oh down, it wasn't THAT bad a week. I have now got my head round the work thing and have been back on it after two very bad days so next week should be better. Are you still getting on OK with it?
I was bit on the leg by a spider once when I sat down in my garden. Didn't know it until the next day when my whole body was stinging and the leg was numb. I was lucky. didn't go to the doc and recovered anyway. I HATE hospitals. Couldn't get out of them fast enough after the children were born. (but that's a rant for another day)
I don't view what you said as rant; more outrage over the arrogance and ignorance of what people say
well anything on the down side is good!!!!
thanks BR. ((hugs))
*hugs* I'm getting on - fairly too easily with it. I keep wondering what I'm missing
i can't agree more, stid. Spiders are dread
thanks also for teh pe 6, am a little slow today
If we had to pay what you do for hospitals I'd hate them too
Ps done
No magic formula with it Ata, just good old fashioned eating healthy. When I stick to it I have always done really well with it.
I suppose health eating would NOT be the macaroons I nibbled earlier? *resolves to consume salad with supper*
it just doesn't feel like hard work. Losing weight should be hard work!!
That's why they call it a plan for life because it's about changing bad habbits.
fe6/27 pls
well, Ata, you can always don a hair shirt
the only thing that concerns me is this losing points when you lose weight. I'm fine at the moment, I'd be fine with a few less points, but if I lose lots of weight I'll have no points left!! lol
now the S are gone
I eat more on Weight Watchers than I ever do outside it but fruit and veg feature strongly and I have cut out bread. Chocolate becomes a rare treat instead of a basic food group and McDonalds profit goes down.
fe 6 -- add ma and pa ke****
peri: to be in good form, fine fe**** (rhymes with tea water heater)
found it right before your clue, thanks stid
help - how do you play? I'm suggesting words which are there but it says they're not!
I think your appetite goes down as you lose weight and get used to it. Also I have got to the exercise section and as you lose weight you will become more active and earn more points.
Like FILTER!!
hello becky, filter is NOT there. the R is in the wrong place
the instructions are in the "help" icon at the top right of this page
What do you mean about place?
hmmmm true
becky- the letters have to connect
when you are ready, a LOT of help and hints are at http://www.freewebs.com/angelsong/
need the fishy TA 5 please?
ta 5 -- a sense
ahhh ok ta :-)
ah, there is the 8/9 combo... *sigh* so much for my ESP skill!

ta 5 -- t + cow p****
I just started and am already down to 178 words. Inspired!
go Mother go!!! LOL 4 here
ta 5 --- pl of the instrument that measures rpms
Sometimes we just are on the same wave length.
oh, btw, Mother aussieme says thanks for you concern and she hopes she hasn't worried anyone too much. I assured her we are all okay and just to know we are thinking of her.
oh dear, I shall also have to give up my "world's greatest composter" tshirt... didn't see the ti 5/6 until just now. two...

well you shure do shovel that um "manure" well bichon!
those may be the longest trumpets I have ever seen -- or are they keyed trombones?
there is a marching band from a washington state high school in the parade somewhere...
Going to watch the parade for now. poof
well I finished the reading for this week, now I just need to finish the paper I started yesterday. *sigh* I know I shouldn't complain, but there are so many other fun things I could do...
*waves good bye to mother*
bye stidgmere
writing papers should be fun!
seriously who thinks writing papers is fun!!!
me!
writing some papers is fun. but I am not enjoying the papers for this class. at all. *stubborn mama look*
That is so cool that his alma mater (high school) band is here!
Oh did you see him saying hello to the kids :-) I thought he was trying to get someone to phone him!!
LOL that signal means "hang 10"
i like the ones in yellow they are really funky
Took me a minute too -- the girls were doing the same thing
I did eventually work out he was returning the kids gesture
they are fun! isiserettes? I think that's what the banner siad
oh those gymnasts!
ooh, that one boy just hurt his foot...
the embarrasment of it, in front of millions across the world!!
oh no! just realized the tivo switched off! I hope I can record enough... the boys would love the parade!
CNN are showing how many people were in Washington for the ceremony - wow
I think it will work... the tivo thinks it's regis though *sigh*
I think they must have the entire Crow nation there!
Yay, Indians! I'm part Cherokee and Blackfoot myself...AND got fireworks! Off to watch the festivities, see y'all later!
hello rbud and YAY!!!
congrats and later rbud
well, I should go too -- will be back tonight to help clue if I can. So much I ought to do, but will probably just get something to eat before I head out.
see you later stid, enjoy the rest of your day

i woke up at 5:30 today - suppose I was too excited to sleep, knowing what a big day today would be.
I haven't seen the ceromony yet but I did sky+ it so will watch it later in the week
Has anyone been watching the parade?
yes, bichon, off and on
no one throwing eggs, so a big improvement already over the first GWB inauguration
I think this is the first inauguration I've watched since JFK.
It's nice to see such happy people
did GWB even have one for the second term? I can't remember
very short visit, to check new icon for the new theme.
I'm watching it and I have never watched one before
hi and bye all, enjoy the grid and your life ;)

They thought all their Christmasses had come at once today when I dropped a can of sardines. It was a battle between the 3 of us, 2 licking like mad and me mopping it up

Well! Over half way -- so far not too bad (Thunk, wall probably comes down)
wtg jill
sorry nell no help here
nelleon, I think you need your flag -- wanna know how?
did you see the quartet at the inauguration? they were in fine fe6 today!
An fe6/27 word rhymes with the pe6/21 word nelleon
Sure, jilli
fe rhymes with what you boil water in for tea ke****
that was amazing the Friends all were excited they picked one of our tunes!
fe 6/27 rhymes with what you I to boil water for tea.
min, I'm going throughthe list alphabetically and haven't got to the P words yet

i liked that they picked out four fabulous musicians and not one of them was a WASP male!
ty kaz
yw :)
I f4/7 sorry how cold their fingers must have been
fireworks for me :) and can hang for a little to help clue if anyone needs them!
I noticed that too, hursh -- and wasn't Yo Yo enjoying himself!
wtg kaz
YAY kaz!!!
Yo Yo always seems to be having a good time
I love yo yo ma... being a former cello player
Congratulations Kazozz on fireworks!Hooray for you
he really was! he is such a cheerful dude. i saw him in '97, he spoke at my college's graduation that year.
jmc, I noticed the pianist was wearing gloves with no fingertips
yea Kaz
I'm right behind you Kazozz.I'm looking for last word.
fireworks
gogogo min!!!
he will be in san diego in may but it sold out
WTG FLosey
I saw that too jill but none of them had coats on!
wtg flosey
go min
the poet was a yale professor... when she got up to read her poem, the head of our institute said "now don't embarrass us!"
hurshy and jill, i got confused reading your two posts - I thought you said the speaker at your grad spoke with no fingertips, and I was all "what?"
LOL trif!!!
Congratulations flosey on fireworks! Hooray for you!
lol trif!
YAY flosey!!! (didn't see you!)
clue for the ad 5 please? I know it is weird, but I can't manage it....monkeys are watching parade....
the speaker who spoke at MY graduation was christopher reeve. it was painful.
just came back in jilli - to finish up, has been a busy day
are they still parading? in the dark?
Eleanor Roosevelt spoke at my McGill grad
let me check brb
geesh, hurshy, I had the president of the land grant colleges association - thriling!
Parade is over
oh jilli, I'd love to have heard ER, have always admired her
the monkeys are not working....so I need a clue, please
a + **** mites
She was awe-inspiring
thank you hurshy. most kind
good evening and happy Inauguration Day to you all!
parade ended a few minutes ago
hi jbv
hi jbv!
jilli - I loved reading your father's poem in your profile -
must go start supper, hubby has early meeting
hi jbv
thanks, jbv
ok off to put washing in dryer..gl all and bbl :)
ttfn kaz
I think you might like to know that my father, who was stationed in England before the D-day invasion, always spoke with gratitude about the way the English welcomed the Americans
i wonder what percent of married people LIKE being married, and how it correlates to length of time married.
it is a beautiful poem - you must be so proud of it!
Hurshy, I like being married - have been married 47 years
hurshy, the longer i'm married, the less I can imagine what my life would be like without my husband - is that an answer?
trif -- it's only part of a lot of verses about how much he missed us.
yes jilli, you father wrote some beautiful poetry
we've been together 31 years
well, it's an anecdotal answer :) not a statistical one, but that's ok :)
don
hurshy, I absolutely loved being married.
don't ask me, i was divorced after 20 years
I enjoyed most of my marriage, it got better over time
ok hursh, on the other hand, daughter's marriage didn't last 2 years
I am on that path, dorens (hugs)
I am done! I have fireworks!ha7/36 was my last word
I liked being married for the 49 years we had, although there were some rough spots. Got used to each other, y'know?
Any SZ words?
(((hugs))) to trif and dorens
flosey, did she dislike marriage in itself, or the person she wed?
wtg min
well, but, less than 2 years is one of those we-both-realize-it-was-a-big-mistake kind of things.
YAY minveryork!!!
yay min!
I think there are always rough spots - it all depends on how you deal with them
no SZ or CZ or TZ
no sz
WTG Min
ty
i agree with flosey. I would prefer to work it out. he preferred to run
help needed with da6/27 (fishy?)
I have 3 SC words...is there more?
if you both make the relationship priority #1, you can work anything out
My last words were ap 6/21 and ha 7/36. I've never ended w/2 words so similiar. Can stay & clue for a bit
jili - da + cons + half a latin dance
it's not so much that there are problems, in some cases, as that there just doesn't seem to be any POINT
jilli..put a cons in the middle of the da5
only 3 phae
ty
jbv, that is the rub right there - one wants to work on it, the other says fu4 it, and then where are you?
da 6/27 adds cross letter in the da 5/16 word killibus
ta trif and phae
da 6/27 adds cross letter in the da 5/16 word jillibus
and min ;)
de rien, jili!
hmm, i see, Trif, that is definitely a problem -
yw jilli
i mean, for a woman, if you don't have or want kids, really, what use is a husband?
divorced
bye for now, back at flip
picking up dead things in the yard for one, hurshy
turns out you can do most everything yourself
I can think of a few uses hursh lol
lol phae!
you can get a dog for that trif
bye flosey
killing spiders...calming down nightmares...cleaning toilets
I heard a brilliant woman speaker once who said "I was married to a socialist, and married to a buddhist, and neither one took out the garbage." oh, that made me lafffff
Goodbye flosey! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log!
once, i was flipping a mattress and it fell on me, and i was stuck under it. but i managed to get out.
but a life companion is always better in a crisis, hurshy, take it from me - we've been through many on both sides and one can be strong while the other is falling apart
my vibrator doesn't cuddle
Hurshy, my dog DOES do that, and too often, which is why I want a man around to do it first!
my family doesn't have crises.
te8,50 please?
companionship, comfort, cookery, cleaning, among other attributes, hursh
well, THAT was a lot of information, jmc!
*giggle*
amazing family with no crises
te....first part of phone and what you walk down...te8/9 pl
A te 8/50 is a te4/4 plus pa 4/6 word forwardbyfaith
so then that's what you need, hurshy , a family crisis - takes the attention off the two of you and shifts your priorities
not to mention what we call "paying the penis tax" - getting the car across a rainy parking lot? paying the tax. Picking up dead stuff? paying the tax. Cleaning gutters? paying the tax....
yeah, um, in my marriage, we don't have that trif.
*brag* te8 was my first word! Mine, who never sees the biggies at first!
do you think it is possible for non-crisis-lives to run in families?
wtg jill
i mean, my ancestors, they just get born, get married, have kids, get old, and die. i don't know back a lot of generations but all the ones i do know, it is like that.
probably helps to have it run in families
want to share a clue?
one who has ESP, faith
A te 8/50 is a te4/4 plus pa 4/6 word forwardbyfaith
that sounds really great hurshy. please do appreciate how lucky you are.
no health crises? legal problems? bankruptcies? teenage pregnancies?
couple of drag queens maybe?
we've had more than our fair share- willing to pass a few crises along to spread the wealth
ty Min.
trif!
my grandmother had breast cancer, but she got cured like 15 years ago... my grandfather had quadruple bypass surgery and went back to work...
what? :)
legal problems, bankruptcies, fires, burglaries, none that i know of
if my sister comes on tonight, ask her about the biz man she used to see every morning on the train....
faith -- you didn't see or get my clue just before min's?
i do have one aunt who ran away to be married when she was young, but she's still married to him and has two kids
we have no drag queens or other odd people either.
wild child!
who is your sister (I know I should know)
car.eeyore
i don't think any of my relatives have ever even TRIED drugs... most don't drink at all and those who do, in moderation.
hursh you have crises and don't know it: cancer, heart problems, having babies
okay, hurshy - give it up = what is the secret?
nobody's rich, nobody's broke...
maybe your family is just good at keeping it all to themselves?
oh, really, trif? Didn't know.
jillibus, I just checked acct page - couldn't find flag info!
yup. kadresa is too, and aknitter is my cousin
I need to take notes on families!
i don't know what the secret is. i think we're just all risk-averse.
nelleon, on your account page there's a little square, upper right, saying Show Profile. Just check it :)
but, i may have an undiagnosed heart condition, so maybe i will drop dead at a young age and be the first real family tragedy in ages
anyway, the short story is that every morning she saw the same very, very distinguished looking man on the train, always impeccably dressed in sharp suits. he always stood on the train, and held the overhead strap. As he reached up, lovely and lace-trimmed panties would peek out of his trousers, just the teeniest bit. they were nice too - expensive silks, shiny satins....
ta da!
thanks jilli
good job nelleon!
lol trif
whoopee, nelleon!
aha! now that man
welcome to the us, nelleon
ty -
oops - that man's wife may have been in hurshy's family and not known about her husband's identity crisis
no doubt jbv! lol
of course, car always sat to read on the train, so her eyes were right at his waist level...
we don't live in cities, so none of us ever have taken trains to work.
and hurshy, if you have concerns about your heart, just get yourself to a doctor, and stop fantasizing about a tragic death, please
and she would find herself remembering them - oh! the blue and white ones today...oh, we are back to the pink....
it's just occasional chest pain and palpitations. probably nothing.
i think your life sounds blessed hurshy. you are very lucky. do get that check up,though.
does the phrase "famous last words" mean anything to you?
get the checkup to keep the crises away!
but a heart attack is the best way to go! i need some doughnuts, is what i need.
not so good for your family
find out if it's nothing, hursh. Be a good girl.
having a heart attack and dying is one thing, being left an invalid is something else entirely
my cats WOULD miss me...
this is true. i must make sure to have it when nobody is around to call 911.
stop that, hursh.
hurshy, what makes you think you have an undiagnosed heart prob?
hursh is missing his family having a crisis and wants to create one
the occasional pain and palpitations.
hello everyone :) -- just diving in
are you prone to anxiety attacks? they feel like that
Hi nan
but, the odds of a 31 year old woman whose only family history of heart problems is an 80-year-old grandpa having a heart condition are very very low.
hi cyber
Just FIND OUT, hursh!
no, trif, i used to have generalized anxiety but it is better now and anyway it's not correlated to anything, it just... happens.
hursh somebody has to be that 2%
sharp pain?
hurshy, no one knew what the plague was when only one guy had it. go get checked already! for heaven's sake, make the most of that national health!
no, not sharp pain
oh, wait, I forgot, you are here
once again, the flag is tricky
my heart skips beats then races to catch up...wierd feeling but no pain...how long do the palpitations last?
the palpitations, not too long, the pain, several minutes at least
but it's very mild.
yea, probably nothing serious, but should have it checked
I wish kje were here, or scrabbler
probably some misfiring of the neurons, but will eventually get worse
Unless phae is an MD
no, but my sol is!
but, if you get it checked when it isn't doing it, can they even tell anyway? i mean is it like with cars and mechanics?
they just showed the cutest thing on tv! apparently sasha and melia obama got to go to this disney channel concert last night where the jonas bros were singing, and the girls were adorable, bopping and rocking out with their mom. how fun!
yes hursh. i had scary palpitations when i was pregnant and they did and ekg and told me not to worry
they can tell stuff even if it is not happening
depends on how often it is happening...they have monitors you can wear that are connected to the dr's or hospital
like minority report
i really ought to stop babbling in the dark.. make more errors in the chatlog
re: jmcnrick's comment, that is.
oh, i was just about to say no NOT like minority report
you can't start a fire without a spark this dor's for hire even if she's just babbling in the dark
I need one more F...why can't it be filter?
and I am a jersey girl, too
dorens, your icon photo is just lovely
because it's fy5/20

i have fu, fl4.9
well how am i sposed to be good at GWPIM if you find all the hard ones first
6 fe's; 5 fi's 4fl''s; 1 fu ; 1fy
another fe
fl4/9 is chef Bobbie Fl**(I think he's a chef) phaeton.
what kinda disease is that hursh? :)
another fe, phae
fe...4,5,4,4,4,6...?
clearly, you have an iron deficiency
plural fish, plural fish *pollock*
GWPIM is an iron deficiency?

wow, weird one. thanks!
sh6 -- add rude two-letters reversed to the preceding fish
ooo - have no fe6 either... now we are getting somewhere!

pam take the fish, and add a vowel adn a cons in the lower left
lower right that is :)

LOLOL, feather
a tree gives sh**e, and rough and gr**f
I'm male...why - are you gonna deny me my h at?
such a polite way of clueing the sh6 ;)
yes but who cares, she was stunning Pam, loved the hat and the fact that it was her.
it was all her!
she did fine... she is old and it was 26 degrees!!! I liked it!
yep HH... that is not a guys hat... not enough attitude to pull it off
in a truly diverse america, we should all be allowed to wear hats of any gender!
CNN is being mean about Michelle's outfits, and I liked them both
HH can wear it but maybe not be as stunning as Aretha.
ha7/36 please?
Michelle looked FAB.
well go ahead then HH
heh :)
michelle is just classy
if you insist... I am just trying to save you from making a horrible fashion mistake...
ha7 ***py go lucky + diet
she could wear a burlap sack and look fab to me.
oh - I was gonna wear it with my purple sequin gown
I liked the puce dress, but thought the color not her best....
we don't want you ending up in glamour magazine with a black bar over your eyes and a DON"T below the picture
j/k yall
The ha7/36 word is plus the ap6/21 word featherbee
ROFLMAO kje
I missed the Puce. only saw the gold.
kj i'm already a big fashion "dont"
I was at work, all day long. and actually working.
No Harry thats me. the big fashion do not.
didn't look gold to me, looked yellow/green
and those lacy panties mentioned this afternoon, seen by a bus rider when a very posh conservative man was strap-hanging in front of her
so is one of the guys I am seeing... seriously bad - sigh
i'm back, didja miss me?
it was called lemongrass yellow
could I have a hint for the last fe - 6, 27?

yes lbd - no one insulting.. left a huge void
I liked her dress... pretty... and shiny - LOL
fe6/27 rhymes w/what I use to boil tea water aslindy

bitchiness on CNN... what a shock
oh, we must be talking about the first lady's gown
LOLOLOLOL, kje
i have notseen gown yet...but will see it i am sure on tv soon.
i hate hearing babies cry on tv shows
I thought the pale goldy colour and classic lines were most becoming, and I thought the critic wearing sunglasses on his bald head in a TV studio was a jerk
especially when they are suppose to be adults, feather
i dislike hearing babies cry at any time....
gnight all - gotta go prep classes
lol dawg
I loved the lines of the dress, and the color, just not Michelle's best color...
no, especially when they're in danger. watching lost reruns.
sweet dreams, harry and congrats on your firewords
watching "lost" reruns. that might make more sense.
ahh, understand better now, feather
oh no, I just hate crying kiddos, lots of them today.
the white evening gown was lovely and graceful. Of course, Barak is graceful always.
LOVE the evening gown!!!!!!
crying kids are never fun or funny
How can anyone watch reruns on a night like this?
is it white? hard to tell with the lighting
Well, maybe ivory
Hi all, must butt in bout Michelle's dress, I liked it a lot but she is too short waisted to wear the puckered full skirt I think. And it's white.
best question jilli!!!
because the season premiere is tomorrow, and i need to catch up! i'll catch the ball stuff on youtube
i think the evening gown is pretty - it would make anyone feel pretty and feminine and flirty i think... i like it
i like it too. very classy
what channel are you all watching?
give her a break!!!! she is not a freakin' model... she is just a woman!
I am watching the CBS special.... I have taped the MTV youth inaugural so that I can listen to the music and skip the crap....
ok I'm rather exhausted. going to not finish this one....but am going to sleeeeep lots.
I am watching a rerun of One Life to Live on SoapNet
Minver you are kidding!
sweet dreams red
sweet dreams, red
the short waist is one reason I liked the daytime outfit -- a sheath disguises that, but the CNN jerk sneered at it.
ciao red!
Goodbye redturtlehead! I'll see you tomorrow maybe.

still have 65 to go but am paying more attn to the Tv so don't think I'll finish tonight. Nite all.

If you think we British are apathetic about who's in power, we're not really. Like my ex-hub and politics and history at Uni kids said, 'The USA has always told its citizens that they ARE a vital part of the political pricess and theefore have a voice and the right to do whatever. However, here in Britain, no more so than under the Blair New Labour government (not even a proper Labourite then! And I say thast as a staunch Tory). UK government has mostly given us the message, 'Vote us in and then DO AS WE SAY!'
james ***lor, i guess
OMG - a food word - how could I miss that! thai no less
yes, jac, that's part of why there's a US today, that.
Britain has not had a good head of politics since Maggie Thatcher was thrown out by stupid worms.
can happen if you weren't aiming at it
jac, have you seen The Tinpot General and the Old Iron Woman? It's a children's book about the Falklands War
much better to be tossed by smart worms
Labour has tried to be diluted Tory, Tory has tried to be diluted Labour and the parties in between just wouldn't get enough votes.
dcs - I haven't, but I hope they are not anti-Maggie. She is my heroine.
it's anti-war, not anti-maggie per se
i'm not sure if it was sold in the UK. it was popular here
However, every time I p[ut my head over the parapet to say that here in UK, the 'working class and middle (but still remember being working class) people blast me to hell before I can say another word.
Not really Here. Seain can i speak to you on Yahoo please?
yes, i can imagine they would, jac

Now Listening to 'Give Peace A Chance'
I miss JOhn Lennon
I always find it humorous that John Lennon wrote so much about peace and harmony and yet was known for his violent temper and unreasonable requests.
I've heard people talk about him as a kind soul. Now that's ironic!
well.. he was also a narcissist...
I remember when this song came on the radio and I was worrying about the war in Vietnam, al my Mum could say was, 'Yes, Give peace a chance. Stop repeating yourself!'
I am sure I misspelled that
People tend to attribute traits to people as they find comfortable. Truth is less delusional, but doesn't feel as good.
wow kizah.. that is deep
John was so angry about all the wars.
