hello newbie here. does anyone know why i would have yesterday's clues on lickety?
goodnight stid, you sound too busy, get some sleep
refresh the clues alley cat
Did you try refreshing, alleycat? And welcome
thanks all! *poof*
flosey -- how's Sandy now?
improving daily jilli, still needs plenty of rest
yes did that. at the top the date says wed and the number of clues is 85 but all the boxes are still filled in from tues. any help appreciated thanks.
thanks for asking
alley, are you using a mac or pc?
Got nbt and 44 words, declaring moral victory, wishing you good night!
night douglas
using pc, never saw this happen b4. puzzle has right letters, but list has old clues and old words that i put in tues.
try a force refresh -- ctrl + F5
63 down -- leaving the rest for tomorrow -- good night all :)
night nan
goodnight nan
so again I'm the only icon themer, with no interest shown.
thanks jill. sortof worked. i have the right clues now but still tues words. obviously they don't match so for an4 4 i have the word agree still in the box from tues. should i email lickety for more help?
I think licket's dad has been sick lately so it has been hit and miss if the clues get posted everyday.
great icon jilli, interesting story, btw, my aunt taught at Bishops'
Hi Jilli - I've got a whale today
fireworks
congrats, flosey
wtg flosey
alley, that's a good idea -- he seems to be available -- or prompt mrp (his wife) who has been on
great icon Kazz

LURKING FIREWORKS FOR METFAN & MOI !!!!
WOW flosey!!!

alley, just post a message here to mrp (MrPresident), who is online (I think)
flosey -- I have 16 words and can't see much
oddly enough this one went fast for us (hubby is working on it at home) but I went to list early too
Only 16, Jilli?
well, 19 now, JC -- and hello!
jc, jilli has been helping a newcomer too (as she so often does)
I have 32, so far - and hello to you too! :)
I've been yakking too much
Oh yes, of course flosey . . . :)
That would explain why she isn't way ahead of me - as per usual!
what do the l words begin with?
I was also blowing my top at the end of the last grid, about the lies being told inthe USA about the Canadian health system
ly, kazz
missed that jilli
Oh, Jilli?
ty jilli

mrpresident, newbie here. please tell lickety sorry for the sad news that his dad's not well. i sent a separate email describing problem i have on lickety site. would you ask him to check it when he has time. thanks so much.
There are no i words
buff there is one in4
Nice message, alley -- you could also try leaving babble and coming back after counting the proverbial 10
There is indeed, ursh . . .
Thanks (sorry!)
alley, regarding jilli's message, I often do that
the adverbial suffix is a frequent ending in this grid
it's amazing what a difference a half hour or so break will make
thaks, babrab
*thanks
yw
thanks everyone. appreciate the guidance!
alley, your situation is most unusual
Where are you Alley Cat (by the way, that is a name my daughter uses)
San Francisco
flowy, I'm guessing alley's in San Francisco (SF)
interesting, daughter was just down there a couple weeks ago
bingo!
right on jilli
flowy??? sorry!
hi babblers
Hi, DR . . .
lol, guess I've heard them all jilli
hi DR
hi DR
hello, DR
flosey what was your daughter doing here? business or pleasure?
on a brief business trip
could not sleep so decided tocheck out the grid
hopefully she was here during one the unseasonable (for us) warm days.
she didn't mention the weather, SF is such an exciting city
hello and welcome Alley Cat
yes but summer is not the time to visit. may and october are the warmest
thx DR
Summer isn't chilly there, surely?
really, that's interesting, can't imagine summer being cool
I was there in October - many many years ago
Well here, flosey, yes - but I wouldn't imagine it could be in California?
right jc,
a famous author once said (why his name escapes me right now....) the coldest winter i ever spent was a summer in SF. it's our fog time. cold air from the pacific meets warm air from east right over our heads! usually very chilly (right now at 11:30 it's 55)
Wow, Alley Cat!
interesting Alley
while down here in sd it is 70
it's going to be a hot night for sleeping tonight, no idea what the temp is, just hot
* sends so,e warmth up the coast
* some
59°F ... a warmer night
we could send some down as well
imagine, 55, windy and damp (from the fog) feels like 45. people here wear winter coats in the summer often.
Oh yes, I can imagine that, quite easily . . .
oh my! we're concerned about forest fires up here right now
Are you on the West coast, flosey?
yes
We hear/read about them happening in that area.
Jilli and I live on the same small island
Oh, how nice - did you know one another before Babble, or meet on here?
Jilli introduced me to babble - we play bridge at same club
Oh, I see! :)
I was immediately hooked!
nice!
Have the budget problems had an impact on you, Alley Cat ... must be very troublesome
Yes, flosey - same with me. I'm a word game and puzzle addict! :P
not directly. cutbacks in city services impacted summer plans a little. thx
silly me, I've been looking for normal words here
Hmmm . . . well, I haven't found any abnormal ones yet, so no wonder I still have 36 left! :/
Erm - make that 34. :P
having said that, I promptly found some normal ones
Or course . . .
You would think I would find the abnormal ones - being that way, myself. :P
JC, you're a perfectly normal poofter!
hi all
HAHAHA . . . why *thank* you, Jilli dahhhhling! ;) *Flips limp wrist!*
well, maybe rather more talented than most
hi diem
Hmmm . . . I'm sure that's debatable! :P
ah jc, you're cute
hi there diem
How would you know, flosy - you've never seen me?
warm enough for you Jilli? hi Flosey
referring to your personality, not looks, and very friendly
Oh foo -- I have a little sign I bought in Pennsylvania Dutch country which says "Outen the light" and enable says outen isn't a word.
Awww, why thank you! :)
a bit warm for sleeping diem
I think it is in Dutch, Jilli. ;)
Perhaps?
diem, I love this weather -- know how to cope from years in warm climes
But what would I know - I don't speak Dutch.
actually, it should be Pennsylvania Deutsch, I'm told
Ist das richtig???
any clue for the ou 6/36 please
hi hi hi hi hi hi
ou - take an airplane
ty flosey, hi josh
Hi, Joshua! :)
ty Flosey
yw dr
Hi Josh
Take an airplane?
and kaz
Oh!!!
well go for a ride on one jc
some of these combo words are, um, surprising
hi sjoh
yes they are jilli
Yes - and thank you, flosey!!! :)
*josh
ou6/36 in particular
yw jc
yes they are Jilli
easy nbt
not for me, josh
hi there josh
hi. how is everyone this evening
Studies show that drivers who talk on cellphones are four times more likely to be in a crash and drive just as erratically as people with an 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level. In one study cited by the highway safety agency, “drivers found it easier to drive drunk than to drive while using a phone, even when it was hands-free.â€
This morning . . . ;)
I can certainly believe that, BabbleRabble . . .
interesting BR, it always bothers me to see drivers on cell phones
Oh yes, me too, flosey . . .
i saw that in the newspaper today - the information was apparently withheld for quite some time
If my mobile goes off while I'm driving, I ignore it - when I stop, I look to see who rang and return their call.
why withhold that information!
hi all fireworks tough little cookie this one.
When I reach my destination, that is . . .
yes, the agency head did not want to upset Congress
hoorah - fireworks for me
Silverback! Top of the morning to you! :)
good for you jc
YAY silver!!!
congrats, Silverback
wtg Kazz
hi jc hows things
YAY kazz!!!
And congrats, Silverback - not sure I'll finish now.
I have 6 BTs and only 27 words -- granted, watching TV news and chatting...
congrats, Kazzer
Oh, well - look on profiles, Silverback. I left a notice there.
reading the mobile thing - here its a £1000 fine if you get caught using it whilst driving and apparently you can even go to jail
wtg Silverback - haven't seen you here before, welcome to babble
The network, you know . . .
had to use the list for a few :(
Yes, Kazzer - but many do it anyway. :/
When they think they can't get caught and fined.
I haven't opened the list yet, Silverback - I've been resisting, but I think resistance is futile. :P
dont i know - but my hubby is very good - his mobile goes through to the sat nav and it acts like a hands free kit
even hands-free is distracting, they say
I find even hands-free is too distracting, so I don't have it.
any way peeps its nearly time for work so i must finish getting ready.
right jilli - it still isn't the same as a conversation with someone in the car with you
Yes Jilli, I find it is - for some reason, it's worse than having a passenger in the car, and talking with them!
bfn Kazz, see you tomorrow
mobile phone drivers yuck!!! i once had aomeone travelling with four children in a 4x4 none strapped in on a mobile driving less than 20 feet at 60mph at minus four degrees. !
have a good day, kazz
i know jc but folks do worst things - we saw some women putting her makeup on - thought it was an urban legend until i saw it for my self
I've seen that, Kazzer . . . :(
And I've heard horrible stories of women doing that, then winding up being killed. :(
to have an agency head withhold valuable information from the public because it may upset Congress is getting to be so typical, even if so wrong ... politics is a dirty business
good luck jilli with the grid - had to go to the list for the last 20 or so but it was worth it for the lack of grief and the fact that i wont have time to come back tonight
I find it hard to forgive my d-i-l for phoning my son when he was driving me from the airport to their home (among other things)
of course, he shouldn't have had the mobile turned on
Or he should have simply ignored it, when it rang. I don't answer mine while driving . . .
so bummed that nuevo is not accepted
Oh, he can'tignore her, JC!
Well, 30 left - and I have to go. Will try to finish it later.
jc nothing on profiles
Hmmm, Jilli - I could, while driving! Nothing's worth risking life.
Silverback - I mean on Yahoo! Profiles - the network.
I quite agree, JC
I left a little note there - the status message.
ahh ok thx
I got that message, JC -- must be a pain, avoidance
Yes, Jilli - well, this one's a long story. :/ This is a different person, than the other one I mentioned.
oh boy!
Anyway, must dash - and finish this at some point later!
Have fun, everyone! ;)
ttfn, JC
*POOF!*
c u later JC bye
I'll be off as well, goodnight all, be back tomorrow night
c u later JC bye
c u later JC bye
night Flosey
night, flosey -- don't tire yourself out!
silver -- you just ran into the hiccup time -- 2 am grid time
tks jilli, I don't get up with the baby through the night, he's with daughter and her hubby, so I do get a good night's sleep
bit of a stutter there ,sorry.
flosey, is she able to nurse him?
There once was a lady from Ryde Who ate some green apples and died. The apples fermented Inside the lamented And made cider inside her insides.

Good night ruru.
I have to get up ea5
We had rain today!
ta ta!
Bye ruru. yay lynxxx!
The ou words are reminding me of the nest of house-martins nesting in our eaves. At first, all you could hear was the cheeping of the baby birds. Now, they're actually hanging out of the nest waiting for the parents to come and feed them.
lol great observation Haz ;)
I'd love to be around when they try to venture out for the first time, let's hope they haven't been fed too generously to take wing easily.
How lovely, does Spangle gaze at them?
There was a crow in the garden yesterday doing horrid things to a couple of nests.
It's funny, Spangle doesn't seem to have taken a great deal of interest. But it's hilarious to see these little heads peeping out cheeping constantly.
a cat would be much more interested i would think.
They're really high up, but I can imagine next door's cats being ready for any casualties.
It's kind of frightening to think that if they don't get the hang of flying straight away - curtains!
Does Spangle allow cats into your garden
If she's inside the house, she makes her objections very loudly. If she's outside, she puts on a great show of chasing the intruders.
The cats deliberately stroll past the front window just to annoy her, I'm sure of it.
Good dog!
lol
The most dramatic episode is if she's surveying the land from the top of the stairs and a cat saunters past. She misses half a dozen steps in her haste to smash through the front door.
Not that she should be upstairs, since it's against the rules of the house, but she likes to sneak up once in a while.
do you have wooden or carpeted flooring at the bottom of the stairs?
*imagines Spangle skidding out of control*
It's wooden. Carpet on the stairs and then a hard, shiny surface for sliding...
imagines Spangse being read the Rules of the House
heh heh
I know! We need to go over them again with her, I think her memory is fading.
Or maybe we need to remind ourselves of what we said originally.
and of she is clever, she turns her body at the last minutes so that her rump smashes into the door. Our Bob used to do that
She's certainly never managed to do herself any harm.
Does Stew have similar cat objections, lynxxx?
I must get new keyboard for this laptop, about a third of the letters have worn off.My spelling is not quite as bad as it seems
Stew is very wary of cats. Bravest thing he has managed is a bark at one accross the road, tail between his legs at the time
I'm being taunted by tenues (from yesterday) not quite being here today.
phone brb
Did the cat show any sign of being intimidated? They seem to be deaf and blind as far as Spangle is concerned. Being chased is the only thing that moves them.
Taunting dogs is part of a cats remit isn't it?
Most of them are arrogant beasts. Let's see if that flushes any cat lovers out
I suppose it must be. I've never had a cat.
You like cats, don't you, FM?
One here already lynxx, had both cats and dogs in childhhod
They just seem to live life on their terms. They wouldn't hang round long enough to listen to the Rules of the House, I would imagine.
Nor I, and Ken is allergic so never will
I suppose if you ever wanted to annoy Ken, you'd discover a long suppressed desire to have a cat.
But you'd be stuck with the creature as well so things about noses being cut off and faces being spited spring to mind.
A new ground for divorce I should think
I think it would come under either unreasonable behaviour or irreconcilable differences, you're right.
must go and get changed, have to head out in about an hour, back shortly.
See you later, FM.
I might get going to. Have a good day Haz & FM
Thanks lynxx. Enjoy your evening.
Bye lynxx, have a good evening
***test, test***
***inbound***
*passes a towel* G'morning Lori :)
lol, that was tres weird. I tried to say g'd morning twice, and nothing happened. It all just disappeared.
hi Babblers! small grid today.
I had similar probs yesterday, had to give up on the chat in the end.
***begrudgingly accepts towel*** G'd Morning FM, Babblers!
Hey Aloy, 'yer up early.
Yay Aloy!!
yes, I am up early.. was ill yesterday, so went to bed very early.. howdy FM.. (-:
hope you're feeling better today!
Yuk, hope you're feeling more better-er today then.
ty, I am.. sleep is my "cure all".. think it was a touch of tummy flu
It is a good grid today with a few challenges.
Look what happens when your back's turned. People arrive!
hi there, Haz!
Good morning to all of you.
They were ringing the doorbell for ages so I let them in, in your absence.
That was good of you. I'll have to speak to the butler and see what his excuse is.
G'd Morning Hazaurus! Not nice to lock the Babble door. Uncool. I almost had to boost Aly in through a window.
*Aloy even
LOL great image.
Have we taken security too far?
lol.. as if I could fit!
Should I disconnect the electric fence?
The barbed wire was a tad much. I'm wearing new jammies, and now they're all torn.
probably best yes Haz, a tad too overprotective I think.
Come on, Aloy, if Santa can fit down all those chimneys, I'm sure you can get in through a window.
you all are so "awake" ! am starting my day with giggles
Don't be looking to me to darn those jammies.
Good way to start the day Aloy :)
I wonder if I can return them as defective.
amen, FM (-:
They're obviously not fit for purpose.
Aloy's especially relieved, since the window in question bears a 'wet paint' sign.
Oh, that sign's always there.
Lori, how did you know I've been painting?
It means nothing. Like half the burglar alarm casings in the country.
I'm psychic! Not to be confused with psycho.
There's a very fine line. Very fine.
the painthe rainbow of paint on your face gave it away Aloy (I am presuming that is not your usual look, might be wrong tho)?
Next time aloy, may I suggest water based paint? :p
well, at least it is a pretty color.. periwinkle blue
Periwinkle blue sounds good. Have you ever thought of hiring LoriP's water-cannon and using it for paint. Speedy and fun home improvement, you've got to love it.
speedy too! kaboom!
so the yellow and green is your natural colouring?
Just be sure to stand out of the way if you want to avoid your shape preserved for posterity.
With my cannon, the job would be done in jig time. Toughest part is masking off everything.
..sipping coffee, waking brain cells.. still giggling
Masking is for wimps.
Do you think Jackson Pollock masked?
Exactly. Proper aiming of the cannon is all that's needed. A little Science if you please.
Masking is the proper and professional way of doing it!
lol.. Must write that one down, "masking is for wimps"..
home deco ala Haz
you should write a book, Haz
Leave it to FM to look for short cuts.
I know, what masking tape is going to withstand paint filled water cannon? Just go with the concept of a one colour room.
I should, Aloy, it would revolutionise current thinking.
*douses Lori again*
It's also faster to paint the carpet rather than steam clean it.
Hey! What was that for?
Exactly, Lori.
And there's no fuss about things matching. Everything's the same colour.
2 jobs, 1 tool. What's not to love?
I was practicing my Pollock technique but slipped up.
ack.. had the carpet steam cleaned and guess what happened? An odor came up.. really bad.. as if cats had used the room, had to have the room retreated.. no cats in there for years..???
Pollock had a technique? You mean there was a method to his splattering?
Happens all the time Aloy. Carpet is evil that way.
hidden in the padding.. evils arise
Pesky cats, Aloy. You'll remember in future to paint, not steam.
yes, Haz.. the carpet should be periwinkle blue too
Haz knows. Had you painted, none of that would have happened.
will write that tip down, too
Absolutely. Lay an underlay of odor- eaters, paint the carpet, bob's your uncle.
Oh, and if you're really fussy, a constant spray of Febreze.
lol! what does "bob's your uncle mean?"
get rid of the carpet and have lovely old floorboards - problem solved.
Bob's your uncle - just another way of saying 'There you are, case closed'. My mother always used to say 'Bob's your uncle and Kitty's your aunt' but where she got that from I have no idea.
ah so, have never heard that .. now I know!
we used to say fannies your aunt.
FM, you're not entering into the spirit of this at all. First masking tape and now floorboards. We want carpet! And painted carpet to boot
G'd Morning zooz
hi zooz!
Good morning zooz. Kitty and Fanny were obviously Bob's secret wives.
sorry Haz, but B was a stickler for such things, hard to break the mold
Was Uncle Bob a bigamist?
FM is not grasping the concept being offered here. We're an alternative deco group. Focus please.
Morning zooz
Hello Lori, Aloyisus & Haz.
hello FM :-)
Yes, you've got to embrace the new decor, FM. Think of it, no washing paint brushes or anything. We just drain the water cannon and it's done.
zooz, are you ready to receive an education in home deco, as in instant home deco? Get your cannon ready
*hangs head* trying to do too many things at one, am prepping for a meeting, doing soduku and babble chat all at the same time.
and still haven't put on makeup or got changed.
Focus, FM! Leave off that sucky-ducky game, numbers never did anybody any good!
make up? what's make up?
Numbers are no fun.
Don't be using the water cannon for the make-up. It would be a shortcut too far.
Ah but if I filled it with foundation I'd be done in seconds.
Could always get the police round to clean your house..they are good with water canons..lol
True, but the application might be a tad on the heavy handed side.
LOL
you could have a blast FM..haha
Some of the teenage girls I see these days seem to use a trowel to apply their foundation.
.. and you might have to do it only once a week
And the concept of matching the foundation to their skin tone has passed them by. It's orange or nothing.
what color eye shadow goes well with orange?
Blue.
oh it has to be bright sky blue
Or black.
eeewww.
Blue is the only color that's hip.
Yes, the brightest blue you can get, preferably luminous.
with a while line on the bottom lid for some reason.
Sister-in-law is a teacher - they had one 16 year old girl refuse to come in and do an exam (GCSE) because she had left her make-up in her sister's car. Only way she budged was for her father to leave work, buy her some more make-up and deliver her to the exam room.
what are these girls thinking when they mask like that..lol
ans she still failed...LOL
well, you can't do your best if you don't look your best, lol
They think they're looking good, zooz. That's the sad thing, they can't see that they're better looking without.
and*
FM, the white line on the bottom lid. It must be an English thing, haven't noticed it over here.
OK I must away I have 15 mins to get my act together and hit the road. Lovely to catch up and hope to see you later!! Hugs all round.
hugs back to you, FM... have a super day!
Have a good day, FM.
Bye FM {{Hugs Back}}
Laters FM. Make sure your makeup is as hideous and age inappropriate as possible!
why not and a {{kiss on the cheeks}}
Get that mascara brush working!
make sure it runs a bit too..hahaha
Lori, has zooz ever offered you a kiss on the cheek? I'm feeling a tad jealous.
Never! That pretty much trashed my self esteem. Now I need to attend multiple workshops.
{{Kisses }} all round...phew that was close.
I've cheered right up. Therapy may be postponed, I think.
For me, therapy is inevitable.
Well, in your case, of course, we all understand why.
LOL..don`t be so hard on yourself Lori....by the way do you have there number handy..lol
Naturally .
My Shrink is on speed dial. Only way I can function.
lol Lori !
That's what I call dedication on the part of your shrink, Lori. I suppose you're seen as the ultimate challenge.
You're probably written up in all sorts of journals.
All anonymous to protect my identity of course.
oh poor Lori...you are soo mean Haz..LOL
Of course. But people tumble to it when Canadian woman keeps being quoted.
Mean? Moi?
:-)
Yes Haz. Stop being mean to me. My suffering and lack of integration in to society is being studied in the hopes of helping others.
Phone.
It's my shrink calling you....
saved by the bell, Lori
LOL..hahahaha
: )
ok i had better get started with this grid...not got one word yet..LOL

WTG Aloy :-)
Congratulations Aloy! My shrink sends congrats too.
sigh.. guess I have to wait a day for my next fix.. anyone need a clue before I go off to do what needs to be done?
Looks like Haz is really spilling her stories too your shrink Lori..lol
yes please Aloy i would like 79 of them please..haha
I'm way beyond clues Aloy... :)
ok, have fun all.. have enjoyed a most elucidating chat.. ttfn, hope to see you next grid!
Have 'yerself a great day Aloy!
Bye Aloy..take care {{Hugs}}
Hello all. A small, evil grid I suppose?
Hello Scrabbler...yes i am not doing too well really.
G'd morning Scrabbler! Not bad so far, but zooz has been distracting me.
LOL...well i could not help it...all these lovely ladies to talk to...who could resist :-)
Haha, I was just humored by recent chat. Maybe we can be in group therapy together, Lori.
I'm up for that Scrabbler. :)
And let's do art therapy together, and share a padded room.
Meds aplenty I hope.
Boy oh boy, that left lower corner is just a useless jam, isn't it?
i get the straight jacket first then..so much fun trying to scratch an itch with them on i`m sure.
If the docs don't order us enough of the right meds I can do it myself, Lori.
ok i am scaring myself now..lol
'Yer a good friend Scrabbler.
Was that your experience, Zoo?
LOL..not yet but trying to do this grid..i think i am heading that way :-)

The kids have gone to their other nans for a couple of days and my sister took mum out.(but little granddaughter came so I had to feed her)
Google Concerts in SF - likely will get Live Nation or Ticketmaster.
ticketmaster.com
Make the most of it then cait and enjoy :)
en 5 clue please?
gosh, thanks any way for the clue. i got it
en5 - way in
sorry nbj , was working one one but glad you found it.
thanks
mkg - think doorway - it is a way into a building
;)
ty. got it.
pe 6 please?
FM I just made £65 .....someone came to the door buying old gold, I only had a couple of small broken chains but he bought them!!
nbj - much more succinct clue
wtg!
cait we are getting flooded with "old and broken gold" scam artists, be wary
I've also 'recycled a few bits that way recently but not by someone knocking on the door but seeing as the apartments have security dorrs that would be hard to do. HAving said that I did also check out the market value per gram beforehand.
do the market check as fm says
they buy gold for less than they can sell it for. so on one side, you have money from it but they also make a fortune off it.
Its ok cross my son,(a policeman) was here at the time and he payed me cash
my time and effort is worth something so i also sell the old gold stuff. better to have the money.
ahh nothing like having the boys in blue handy;)
LOL
Agree with you there mkg
I wish I had more LOL
here, jewlery shops will buy unwanted gold and silver at a reasonable price as they use it for settings and repairs in shop
There is a shortage of gold in the UK at the moment so everyone is trying to buy it from you
only gold i have left are a doen or so U.S $1 gold coins from the 1850,s and they are not getting thier paws on those!!
dozen
ut clue pls
I agree cross you look after those carefully
There is no ut word
tad smaller than a dime each..quite interesting really
ok thks
I bet they are worth a lot of money to a collector
looked them up..150-300 depinding on condition
I've been active in the auction and dealer market again in the last couple of months and have had much fun selling unwanted things and making some good money on some days and breaking even on others.
Thats a lot of money
but interesting history is what gets me going;)..no wonder everyone, carried purses back in the day..too easy to lose theese things
Great way to 'declutter' but yo uhave to know the market and prices before you leave home!
FM I would love to do that, I dont think I have anything worth selling though
years ago i used to find, buy and sell antique glass, lamps, pots, jars etc..was great fun;))
B and I used to do car boots and I did antique fairs too and I have a lot of stuff left over that was too good for the car boot so have been systematically going through it and targeting dealers.
sounds like fun indeed fm;))
somewhere in this place(i kept a few of the better pieces0 is a antique hot water bottle made of glass:)
Is there more competition now because of cash in the attic, flog it etc?
gets the adrenaline going crossy.
Hello all - please clue the ou7 - my last word
probably less now cait due to those progs and the internet where you can research things before letting them go - which is what I do to the 'nth degree.
crossy is the glass thicker now
nm nm found it tx
Hi ursh
Hi ursh - and yo found it before I could clue it.
Congrats ursh!
lol why would it be thicker? they are made of rubber theese days;)
LOL crossy I meant the glass itself that was used in those days to make other things!!
Now you have got me confused (and thats easy to do )
they made all things much thicker, water bottles, poison bottles, cod stoppers for holding soda etc was all hand blown
aaah, he meant the hot water bottles - I was confused there for a mo too!
you would thing the bottle itself was worth more that what was packed in it;)
Thank you FM I thought it was me LOL
mm...we seem to have our trains of though on different tracks..
but no matter;)
always so many different tracks running though babble aldn crossy ;)
There is a bright light shining outside my window .I think I should take a photo of it
but if you have any antique bottles and jars come to me first(i dont buy anymore) but i can give you a very good estimate as to value before you take it to a shoppe
Thank you crossy I will remember that
:)
cod stoppers, poison bottle,a fire fighting balls carry the most value as well as a few rarer mason jars
Crosshair - I have an old Rx bottle - white glass - maybe from the 1930's???? It is worth anything?
I dug up a couple of bottle in the garden of my old Victorian hose bak in the day when i was married. Was amazed (am going back 25 years now)
Were they broken FM?
no,im afraid not.in the 30,s phamacys used to buy generic corked bottles for thier potions and unless you have them in rarer colours, blue, green, yellw, they are not worth too much
the old tonic bottles from the late 1800,s are a different story
Thanks. It is a simple white bottle with a bakelite top - not even a cork.
Probably too modern
and my typing is going out of the window again I see :( No cait - intact which was the joyy of the find, no value but a wonderful thing to see.
sorry science im afraid not, best for a window accent is all
Did you keep them?
yes still have them on a shelf in my office.
some of the very old gin bottles are a thing of beauty as they used green glass most of the time or a dark violet
Thats great a bit of history in your office
with pntill marks indicating the date on the shoulder
I'm an old fashioned girl - I would rather buy furniture at an auction and don't wan;t the latest look - I love the feel for furniture that has a history.
I think I like both
*tiptoes into chog for a hint for the V word*
I heard you coming Eva
Ava - think of the networks in your body - contains fluids
Latin ?

Opps - Eva! Sorry typo
LOL Its an anagram of your name EvaN
Hi EvaN!!
Im just going to watch tv DOND back later
oh you addict you! Bye Cait :)
are you getting to grips with babble now sicence?
FMitch - it is better. I still only managed about 1/2 yesterday. This one is equally frustrating. I have 53 left.....
I am so compulsive - I like to finish everything 100%!!! LOL
LOL I know that feeling - babble is a great word game and has the added bonus of a unique chat log.
Yes, I like the chattering!
I suppose I need to fill out my profile and add some sort of graphic and fly my flag!
Half the battle is getting the words and the other half is interpeting the clues and lingo.
Right. I am still trying to figure out the lingo on the clues - the "ai"7 blah blah blah
I am stuck with the ov issues
To do that you will have to go pro - but it is worth it as after 2 weeks you will lose the stats under the grid.
What? I would see the tile stats??? Bummer. So I have to give "them" US$14.95???
Them is a he and it is a one off payment.
One time payment?
I've been babbling for 4 years next month and it was the best $ I spent for an online game.
That's a "bloody" good deal
LOL yup!
TY for the V-word hint! *tiptoes back to work*
We have a Brit at the gym who teaches some of our indoor cycling class. I am in Texas, so we give him a hard time about his accent. Of course, we don't have one....
of course you do. I've been over to the State quite a few times but not Texas so couldno't comment on you accent.
I was joking - the saracasm is lost in the chats sometimes :)
We have a Southern drawl that we cannot hear.
Ack, sorry sp errors all over the place!
You know our former President is from Texas so you have heard a Texas accent.
oh poo. sarcasm is never lost in the chog... same as how nothing is ever not FMs fault...

Jen ... have you got the 1st ne4/4?
yw Joanne.
yes, mo
1st tu 4,8?
well add a consonant and the sometimes vowel.
I am new to this what do you mean when you use numbvers?
tu 4/8 means it starts with tu, has four letters and totals 8 points, batch
4/4 ... means its a 4 letter word and is worth 4 points.
thank you so much
tu4/8 like the marching band instrument, with a different consonant
tu4 ... tu + **r and near.
ok, i didn't have the right 4/4 you were talking about, now i do and have the other one too.
yw batch .... good luck I am sure you will enjoy the game.
tnks!
i need ne6,24
One to go, but I have to leave. Hopefully I'll get my first fireworks.
well add the same 2 letters to the end of the 2nd ne4.
at last i have uploaded a newer pic of my nephew

ohh ou 36 i need
hursh - great snap of nephew - looks startled and curious at the same time
i got 19 left!
ne6/24 ... stingingly
ne 6/24 build on ne4/4 by adding adverb ending
he's a funny little bear :)
go JenMo go!
Good evening! Anyone needs clues? I finished earlier today. My first complete puzzle!
at the bottom of the page there are letters with numbers beside them are they for the words that are different lengths?
well its getting late, so must dash ... goodnight everyone and good luck.
I see you've gone pro, science ..
Below the grid, the letters indicate how many words come from each tile, and how many you've gotten.
Bath - the first number tells you how many words you have and the second number tells you how many words there are to be found.
Welcome to the madness ..
that start with that particular tile
I went pro, Torgone! I love this game and the folks are fun, too.
mo, leaving me?
Below the word list is Word Stats -- that's how many wods of each length there are to be found.
thanks..I was just trying to figure out why there were 2 of some letters
also batch, check the help link above the chat
And hello to all, by the way.
thanks
if you haven't already
hi science, gwenski
Also, check the Lickety's Clues at the bottom. It will show you more detail on the word combinations.
Hi Gwen
Oh, and those stats are only temporarily available, unless you choose to go pro.
That is another reason why I donated to the cause...
i need the last ne6,24 and ne5,14
I've got only fifteen minutes left at the moment, so heading off to the grid...
I have ra4, ra6x2, ra5, what's my missing ra?
or my missing r, I guess I should say
i think it is an ra4 dan
ra 4 = 2; ra 6 = 2; ra5 = 1

ty
11 left!
pretty soon he will be off to pre-school, and the journey will begin
ta6,24 and ta5,14
oh, we don't do pre-school in my family. we tend to learn more at home than if we're tossed in with a bunch of other kids getting less attention than we would otherwise.
ta 6 -- make an adverb of the preceding ta 4
ta6,24
then the learning journey has already begun
in fact, my sister might home school him beyond that. we went to public school and always thought home school was very insular - but it is what you make it, and just cause the people WE knew made it that way, doesn't mean it has to be!
ta6,26 please
ta 6/24 is ta 4/4 plus adverbial ending JenMO16 & hi!
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
ty min, 9 left! and i got half an hour before i leave to babysit!!
ta 6 - extend the preceding ta 4 with one or the three stooges: *arr^
yw
since wesley can learn so much faster than average, it would seem a shame to waste so many of his hours in school working at a slow pace, when he could fit academic work into a much shorter amount of time and then have lots left over for other kinds of learning, like volunteering (with my sister) at a deaf school and whatnot, sports, music, but without having to have no free time left to just be a kid.
ra5, 14
tartly
ra 5/14 has same ending as an ne5/14 word JenMO16
Hello batch! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
sorry i was in the wrong box
people will get used to it, he said. it will stop happening, he said. pffft.
In that case I should say welcome to the penalty box!
this is loads of fun ..but there are so many words that I have never heard of before.
yes!, ra4,4
i agree batch
As Senor Wences would say, S’awright!
ra4,4 please!
rate
not the price
Well, hurshy, I hope the best for Wesley .. for him to perhaps avoid some of the pitfalls you talked about.
help!
An ra4/4 is ra plus a preposition (I went ** the store)
yes!, 7 left! pi6,21
and, I do not say that to be offensive or judgmental
i have one of the pi6,21
The pi 6/21 word is the pi 5/12 plus a vowel JenMO16
got that one
hello folks
what's the other one min?
THe pi 6/21 is pi 5/12 plus the snake letter JenMO16.
Hello welki! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!

it's the new refrigerator pickle recipe i tried ... hot and sweet, but i went a little overboard on the hot and i got excited :)
Oh sorry batch!Hard to tell with your silhouette icon
I am not a pro so I haven't added any picture
pe6/21 word rhymes with a Beatles singers last name
like i know the Beatles' names!
JenMO16, there are only 2 pi 6/21 words and I clued both. You stated that you have both of them already.
not the pe 6,21
The Beatles singer who sang "Imagine" and was killed.
wait, i need pe6/21, i have the word you are talking about min
You already have the word I just clued about Beatles
i think so?
That is the only pe 6/21 word I have so far JenMO16.
jeepers, you don't know the beatles' names? we must rectify this situation promptly.
John Lennon
just what i was thinking about hursh... is that possible?
Hello Dorens! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Paul McCartney (you may have seen him play at the halftime of the Super Bowl the year after the J Jackson "incident")
Ringo Starr, the drummer (who replaced Pete Best)
I have a feeling that JenMO16 might be a teenager.
and George Harrison, the one my mother decided to have a crush on, because not as many people did, and she liked to have better odds
if you are cluing me pe** with the lennon name i have that one and no i am not a teenager, just a baby when beatles were around!
yes, i was assuming that was the purport of the 16
hi min, thanks. and I'd have thought teenagers knew them. my kids all did
no my birthday is on the 16TH
Don't take offense! I wish I was a teenager again Jen
would you like to be really horrified, folks? my mom not only has not seen any of the star wars movies...
Hurshy, Wesley's new picture is adorable. and he is a real redhead!
i have on pi6/21, and i need the other one
1964 --- long time ago
she also managed to make it to the age of 58 without any awareness of the word "effusive"!
change the last letter jen
thanks dorens :)
I already clued both pi 6/21 words. The first one is pi 5/12 plus vowel and other is pi 5/12 plus snake letter
ty!!!
this is a college educated woman, BA mount holyoke, MA brown, and somehow she managed never to encounter "effusive"!
( I saw the old pic iin you icon and clicked on your icon, was planning on requesting a new photo, cause I know that one is so old!!)
yw
i got 6 left, but i will have to finish when i come back from babysitting, usually by 8:30PM CST
i just updated it about an hour ago :) the quality is not like when my husband uses his super camera, it is just from my cameraphone
I'll be here to help you finish when you come back Jen
quality might not be great, but the expression on his face sure is
i don't know how to play this game
can anyone tell me
back again. Hello everyone. We had quite a sudden storm blow through here; I had to shut down the computers.
polly click on help just above the chat winidow for starts. hi nef
ok thanks
how is everyone this evening?
fine
polly, this game is like a cross between Boggle and Scrabble (hence the name). You try to make words out of adjacent blocks, and the number of tiles is the first # we give while the 2nd # is the # of points you get. So when we say pi 5/12, that's 5 (low point) tiles that earn 12 ponts
(Dang! I broke the chat again!) :-/
ou6,36 please?
sorry, I don't have that yet
ou 6/36 -- not in and shoo, ***, don't bother me!
thanks BR
forward, if you the clue does not work, google, "shoo, ..., don't bother me"
I have 13 left, and they are in a symmetrical design on the grid! I need 1 R, 3 T's (from the uppter T), 6 N's, 1 O, and 2 N's! This is kind of fun! :-Dsymmetrical
ra 6/24 is my guess

WTG, Carol! CONGRATS!!!

down to 9 left. Doing good, Jes. How are things withyou?
well, i'm back, turns out i didn't have to babysit :(
i need six more!

yw jes
min, where are you?
babble?
Comic sans is a fo4/7
Jen, there are 3 fo 4/7s. The 1st is a church, the second is a town in Central Italy and the last is different kinds of type or writing. I had clued the 1st 2 earlier for you before the storm blew through here
okay got the fo's
alrighty... work's about done, i'm gonna head out :) have a good night all
Have you tried using More Words to find words too? Lickety gives the tile stats; more words helps you find words that start with the first couple of letters
g'night to you jess
nite, jes!
ne6, 24, i have the adjectives of 2 ne words, what is the other?
It ends the same as the other 2
well, duh, i figured that
Good! :-)
how does the beginning start, nef?
:) nef, much patinece
(that was supposed to be patience, sorry)
A big part of the game here is trying to find the words yourself. We do provide clues for people, but it makes the game more fun if you find the words and can give clues too
that was patience dorens, not offended
:0( i only have 5 left
go to Lickety, enter your words and see what and where you are missing words, Jen
and I love to give clues Jen, but people usually ask, and say please, instead of demanding and saying I need! sorry if I sound fussy, maybe just tired today. I have 6 left myself
Jen, I was here last night and today, and you have asked for clues whenever I've been here. If I work on trying to finish the grid, I can't or won't chat. It's important for you to understand that we are trying to do this ourselves too; not just spoonfeed clues to someone who is continually asking all of the time
fireworks... how many more have you got nef?
4 left, Dorens. CONGRATS to you! WTG!!!
need any clues before I go?
2 left. (Should have known THAT combo!)
go nef, go!
nope; doing fine! Thanks for the offer! :-)

Fireworks! Good night all!
Ooops1 Did anyone need any clues?
nef, i got 4 left
Good. Are you trying to figure them out? Have you checked out that word-finding site I mentioned (morewords.com)
no, i will try it tho, thanks, nef
you still here, nef?
I left and popped back in, are you finding that site helpful?
(this site is *REALLY* strange-looking right now for some reason. The chat is covering up the Help and archives and rankings buttons; I may have to reboot)
Clue for tu4/8 please?
Think mono lake, Kenny
Don't get it!
The things that stick up out of the lake are tu4/8.
At lease I think so.
how about go right from the t and hiccup along the way?
great clue Nef :) thanks
BBL, I rebooted and the site is back to normal; but it's suppertime now! :-D

Hello all. 34 to go and I am not very likely to find them.
Hi Scrabbs, I have just 17...
see any egrets today, redT?
How are you, BR and red?
Hi Scrabbler! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Not today BR, mostly irritable people, and one who was no longer ill...
Hi Minveryork!

Yesterday evening, I saw a very healthy looking pair.
Upright is excellent BR.
Good for you, BR...baby steps to better days

I am ok, little tired from work.
another long day?
yes, but it was fine.
Hi Dawger '
Hi Scrabs! how's it going?
Hi people
NEFFIE!!
I am also tired. Between work and volunteering I did errands, and then this evening I had dinner with a friend in a cool part of the city.
Hi Nef
cool as in temp or cool as in really awesome?
Cool as in ne4! Part of Buffalo = Allentown, with old homes and buildings, nice architecture. This restaurant is at the tip of a triangular section of property with outdoor seating at tip, brick facade, etc, and great food, lots of vegetarian
sounds wonderful! what did you have for dinner?
sounds like a nice day.
That sounds good, Scrabbler.
Ratatouille with grilled veggies and couscous.
We sat outside and observed the goings-on of the neighborhood.
sounds like the perfect way to end your busy day...other than babbling
It worked out because the cancer hospital where I volunteer is ne4 to the restaurant. I live 45 min southeast of the city.
oooh, looks like Cheetah may have found a forever home! everyone keep positive thoughts for her!
ahhh Fireworks!
Congratulations redturtlehead on fireworks! Hooray!
whoooooo hooooooo RED!!!
Really, dawger? I was just thinking of her today.
Yippee Red!
Mel has a blog where she's been keeping us up to date on the puppies and cheetah.
Congrats, red! WTG!!!
I was just reading the blog and looking at pics of Cheetah and the pups.
OK, I am ready for bed. 27 left is not too bad.

Off to finish laundry; then off to bed. I finished earlier; Happy Babbling everyone!

<poof>
26 now, and, no, o am too tired and will get frustrated. Also, I hear Miss Bea Bunny getting into trouble.
Bye all!
sweet sleep, Scrabs

Goodbye Scrabbler! I will see you tomorrow in the log
Goodbye Nef! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log!
Goodbye lbdawger! I will see you tomorrow in the log!
Does anybody else need clues, or am I talking to me, myself and I?
One ou6 to go - and now I'm going to stop. How's that for willpower!
ou6/21 - consumed more, ou6/21 - to consume more, out6/26 - maybe one bird or pilot can do better than another?
Hi Min. Late night for me. Other Half came home at lunchtime with what could be a terrible cold, but there again... I'm going to go to bed when he gets up, or, failing that, sleep on the so4/7.
Sorry about the 3rd letter in clue 3! PB for me.
hi all from Utah!
Now who's talking to herself? Me, I think!
Oh, Hi jmc.
What are you doing in Utah?
I'll listen jac
I am at a conference of Baptists
51 left for me
Not a lawyer's conference then.
I gave 3 ou6 clues jusr, jmc.
lol no a baptist peace fellowsip
I got them ty jac
I have nbt from this a.m.
I thought Utah was Mormon country? Ignorant Brit that I am. LOL
it is mormon country -- I actually spent the afternoon with one of the 10 (count them 10) mormons who refuse to fight in WWII
but there are people here who are not mormons
'nbt' - I've seen that a few times in the chog - something to to with blocking out tiles?
hey jac and jmc. while the chat is quiet, might i ask what nbt means? I've been seeing it frequently in the chat lately.
no blank tiles -- none of the tiles with a number after / have a 0 before it
haha oh. :P apparently jac doesn't know either
You and me, both, balletslippers.
Ah! I get it now.
or in other words I have gotten at least one word for every active tile
the baptists held the fellowship in Utah in an attempt to hold down the baptists' proclivity for rowdiness
aha! well that is much easier than shooting for the halfway point.
it took me a few weeks to discern the meaning
Well, all my words were done in UK morning, so I can clue if needed.
rofl br you almost made me spit o** my contraband coke
let me get warmed up a bit jac before I ask for clues
won't take me long to come begging I am sure
proclivity is an underused word :P
BR - rowdy Baptists? In church maybe but surely not out? LOL
BR is good at using underused words
jmc - sure! I'm the same myself. Prefer to do all I can before asking.
are all the s words 4?
Yes, jmc
ty

my phantom is snafu
Didn't see that before, jmc, but I do now.LOL
I didn't have a phantom word today.
glad to help ;-)
Other Half wa asking me earlier if someone can be a carrier of Swine 'Flu but have no symptoms. I said they can. He then looked worried and told me a lady at work's son has just had it.
Hopefully, all he's got is a cold.:-/
can they jac? I didn't know that.
We've had so much rain and cold wind here lately, many people have colds.
Yes, jmc. They can.
Aww I hope he's alright. Apparently my English friend's friend has swine flu as well.
it has become a nonevent around here
Well, according to what I've read and heard, they can. But the information is so confused and conflicting here in UK, who knows?
wikipedia might know! hehe
Wikipedia is only as good as the information it gets from the people who post on there.
well now that I think about it I seem to remember hearing that people can have Swine flu before symptoms
jmc - how so?
the press has lost interest -- it is a real back page item
Apparently, there's a 4-day incubation period.
Yes, the press has a lot to answer for. It whips up frenzies in the name of 'informing the people' and can change with the wind if it thinks it won't sell.
... or getting the public aware and officials accountable helped stop a more extensive outbreak. chicken and egg etc. :)
But, I have to say, our politicians also seem badly informed here.
LeslieAnn - true.
good point leslie
good point leslie
Funny you should appear, LA. I was just thinking about your lovely wedding video the other day.

The top tip for dieting, harp, is to anticipate your weaknesses and have tasty low fat alternatives handy. Not so easy if you have family around who are not dieting. But, after two weeks, when your pangs have subsided and you're seeing how much weight you've lost, you won't lapse so often.
ly + 2 British breakfast drinks + definite article (vowel).
ahhhhhh... still took me a minute, but got it. thx jmc and LeslieAnn.
ly6 is the Latin plural.
been there jac, i'm just in a slump. i've lost 40 pounds, 30 to go and DAMMIT I WANT CHOCOLATE!
I behaved very well for the first part of July but I'm taking so many trips, it's hard to be conscientious when I'm on the road....
when I get like that I get my self one very small very decadent peice

Harp - Have you got one gorgeous piece of clothing that you want to fit into? If not, go out and find it. Pay a fortune for it, if you have to. Make it your goal to fit into it. Doon't become a CARROT.
Hello all

jmc -According to local folklore, during the Napoleonic wars, a French ship of the type chasse marée (literally, tide-chaser) was wrecked off the coast of Hartlepool. The only survivor was a monkey, wearing a French uniform (presumably to provide amusement for those onboard the ship). On finding the monkey, some locals decided to hold an impromptu trial on the beach; since the monkey was unable to answer their questions, and many locals were unaware of what a Frenchman may look like, they concluded that the monkey was in fact a French spy. Just to make sure, the animal was thus sentenced to death and hanged from the mast of a fishing boat on the Headland.

It's not the same as seeing it for real and hearing all the birds stop singing though, is it Jilli?
8 to go, weeeee

I was moving that day. If I had been at my NEW residence instead of the old one, I would have had clear skies. But it was still pretty cool to see the lights go down and the birds fly to their nests!

I remember being taken out to see an eclipse of the sun when I was a junior school. We all stood in the playground as day turned into night. It must have been in the 60s. No one but me seems to remember it, though.
