oops - fell asleep on keyboard again. gonna say good night now. night!!!
nite Trif
night trif -- and I'm yawning
It doesn't allow quonset!!!
may be a proper noun
They made millions of them ,littered them all over every war zone and most US campuses, left them there (at least on the campuses) for decades - believe me, they weren't proper nouns!
BUt I think maybe it was only the US that called them that.
I think they were called that in Canada too, maybe also the UK -- how about Aus, lynxxx?
I haven't a clue what you are talking about, so I guess not
72 to go and stuck I think I need a brain break LOL
Quonset huts -- metal things like half a cylinder
hi Meliae.
back to work for me..nite all and gl
Awful buildings of corrugated metal, some of them like a pipe cut in half and mounted on short side walls, some of them sith regular side walls and peaked roofs; on our local campus they put a wall down the middle, door at each end, and called them married student housing.
back
night Dart did you finsih?
Hello Lynx =) ((HUGS))
Ahhh - we called them Nissan huts
yes about 15 mins ago
Morning, i got to 105 in 15 minutes or so - late start today for me. i will try to finish today but might not make it - plans for this evening
The interior walls were fibreboard - the kind that even a toddler could pick pieces out of with mittens on. Probably painted with lead.
Bye Dart. Hi Josh
awesome grats Dart!
rain
A Quonset hut is a lightweight prefabricated structure of corrugated galvanised iron having a semicircular cross section. The design was based on the Nissen hut developed by the British during World War I. The name comes from their site of first manufacture, Quonset Point, at the Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center in Davisville (a village located within the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island). [from Wikipedia]
hi Kazz - have a good evening
I had heard of Nissen huts - even suspected a relationship.
thats what we call them as well - my grandad turned his into a garden shed and the college we used to half at work housed the snooker table in onw
There you go, that's why we called them Nissan huts then
Sorry - what's in the PB tonight?
maybe some leftover choclit from when stid was here last...
hi kazz
I'll try to leave some caramels
one blank tile e in the 2nd row from top
artist tool kazzer

cute, lyn!!!
Jilli and flosey! :)
BBL
well, I've had it for now -- 172/127 -- nice numbers
ok, I'll accept that Nissen is a proper noun.
hi JC -- how goes it?
into
pooh..sorry
arsiest

I wonder how ruru is doing
is something wrong with ruru?
he was dreading today
why?
I was hoping someone here could clarify -- I think it was about his dog
oh ok...
oooookay...i better get myself of to work...bya all..
bye rolin
you there, flosey?
yes, still here jilli
should be in bed!!
so should I! Do you know what ruru was dreading?
no, didn't see much of him tonight at all
didn't realize there was a problem
Sorry , Jilli - was sidetracked. Hello, flosey! :)
hi there jc
yesterday he said he would probably not feel like babbling for a couple of days
Oh no - that's highly unusual, for him - isn't it?
oh dear, sorry to hear that
just got back hello JC
west -- do you know what ruru was dreading today?
Hello, westford . . .
yes scrabs said earlier that he was having to put his Monty down
Oh no, westford - but whY? :(
oh my, very sorry to hear that west
not sure if it was happening today
that's what I was afraid of -- poor ruru -- so hard to do.
Is he an old dog?
it is it's like losing a piece of your heart
Last I heard it was Thursday he was dreading.
Yes, it's the worst, Jilli - had to do it with my last dog, when she was 19. :(
I think so JC he's had him a long time
It sure is, westford - it's exactly like that, it IS that. :(
He was very beautiful -- ruru did post a picture of him a while ago, winning at a show
I think he is getting or just got a new puppy that will help
at least I think that was Monty
He's been looking forward to a new pup for a long time
JC, 19 is a VERY long time to have a dog. As you may remember, my late cat was lamost 19.
as 8/40
Oh yes? Yes it is, Jilli - she was a small dog, though.
I think you will have seen her, Jilli - there were photos with her, in my pages.
I was only 21 when I got her, and lost her just after my 40th birthday.
While I'm at it, has anyone heard from sprite lately?
I'm sorry JC
Definitely not me, of course.
Yes, JC, I remember seeing those pix and writeups -- she was a big part of your performances, wasn't she? Like Valerie now?
she's usually on quite late but she has been keeping up with listing the themes
as8 - as + plural of one of the entertainment awards
west, she hasn't changed her icon since July 16
thanks flosey !!
Valerie isn't as such, no - not in the same way, but she does go almost everywhere with me.
I meant she's been listing them
thanks flosey -- new one to me!
yw
I know, west, but has the list changed recently?
the word that describes a lot of babblers doesn't count
she's listed until Sunday
I think that list has been there since last Saturday, west. But never mind -- I just hope she's ok -- she was sick for quite a while and last I heard was just beginning to recover
I'm trying to remember the last time I saw her on here. It was quite awhile ago
I haven't seen Sprite in ages
exactly
the days just seem to blend together
oe 7 and oe 8 if not called before
any clues for those Dee?
I emailed her two days ago -- no reply. Maybe she's away?
they end like the es 6 and es 7
on 7 and on 8
thanks dee
thanks Dee
yw
I have no es words, lol!
I always forget to talk like a Brit
or should I say spell?
hmmm, I don't have those ones
hormones I think
Hmmm, Jilli - one of the 'es' words is a letter - the plural of it. ;)
that gave them to me, west -- thanks!
ty JC
You're welcome, westford . . .
no one got my babbler joke
se 6 x 2; se 7 x 2\
thanks, JC -- I was relly blind -- or brain dead
oops se 6 x 3 so far
Or just too overtired perhaps, Jilli? ;)
ty dee didn't have the plural
thanks west,
I always miss pluras :(
guess so, JC -- couldn't even spell "really"
not me usually get the plurals and forget the singulars
that's why it's nice to have the list
definitely great to have list with these large grids
That's OK, Jilli - I read 'typo' very well. Probably because I make many, myself . . . :P
I could use one now
se 7 x 3
and so to bed -- goodnight all -- babble well (still nice numbers -- 181/118)
lickety is up west
good night jilli those would be good for lottery numbers
Much better than me, Jilli - as usual.
Sweet dreams to you . . .
oh thanks dee must have posted while I was away
been here longer, JC!
yw
west, Lickety posted almost right after the flip
wow jilli, you giving up before me! unusual
you're up later than usual, flosey!
I missed the announcement jilli my bad luck
yes and I'll regret it jilli
well, now you know, west and will zip through this like a dart
flosey did you find out what happened to the neighbor last night?
53 to go, just wanted to get 3 more
wow flosey you're a speed babbler
I believe it was a stroke
his wife came home and found him
how awful
Oh no!!! :(
hope he's ok, flosey
me too
haven't heard today
That's terrible - yes, hope he'll recover?
fireworks
YAY dee!!!
You're amazing, dee
s-i-l is quite involved with the strata, knows all the owners
Yay dee!!
wtg Dee
ty may I help anyone before I leave? ty jili; not amazing, just thankful for lickety and morewords LOL
Now, POOF!
maybe a little help with the me9 please?
does it have anything to do with spots?
think I'll call it a day, will have these to work on - I stay out of the way until s-i-l is off to work
ext of me 7/32 with foot digits ending... nothing to do with spots
goodnight all, be back in the morning
thanks dee I can search elsewhere then
starts like an exam but change t to an m; opp of out is ..
good night flosey sleep well
ends with opp of the affirmative word (and its plural)
14 to go whew
and has foot digits in it too?
that was horrible clueing... hang on and let me try again
have I ever heard of this word? lol
me 7/32 exam (change t to m) + opp of out + vowel (shape of mouth when exclaiming surprise)
me 9/60 plural is made by adding 2 letters, not just one
as nan would say..ta da !!
if you get it from my clue it will be a miracle..
and no I have not heard of it
yay whew
I hadn't either
thanks so much
any others? yw
Dee could I get help with the se 6/18 and se 7/28 i am thinking they are a pair?
your clues were perfect it was my brain that wasn't working
one se 6/7 combo is fall, winter, summer, spring (what they are called)
Howdy Doody's princess!!
the one after that Dee
sorry =(
one se 6/7 combo is what you do to a letter through the mail (minus the last consonant) + lice eggs
thank you dang I know that word too lol
thanks dee didn't have that one
yw
well I am poofing til the flip; hugs to all; have a good day / eve poofing with hugs
bye dee and hugs for you too
night and grats on finishing
Finally, over half-way . . .
whew Firewords!
anyone need any help before I go
grats J.C.
try adding the superlative whenever you can. there are a bunch of them with that suffix
yay meli !!
I can't get my second a word so much for the list
bye not fun anymore
G'd Morning Babblers! Another decent sized grid.
Hello Lori. Yes, seems pleasant.
Hey Hazaurus!
Hello there - good morning/evening all.
I tried 'inniest'. I have the inniest belly buckle ever, but no luck. Stoopid Enable.
It just doesn't recognise greatness when it sees it.
Alas and alack.
Hopefully this grid contains actual words, not to be confused with yesterday's....
It seems to be full of words we've encountered before. Was A lass and a lack the old fashioned way of indicating a bimbo (a girl, no brains)?
Quite possibly. If so, what a polite putdown, no? :p
Very, she wouldn't know that anything untoward had been indicated.
Far more subtle than something like "well, I should go to bed now, so my company can go home". Different genre altogether.
Subtlety is no use if you want people to leave. Setting off the smoke alarm works wonders.
You can't carry on a conversation in the face of overwhelming noise and the possibility of getting scorched.
True. Creative as well.
I would have thought manufacturers would be able to create a series of emergency measures to get rid of unwanted guests.
Powerful aromas, flickering lights, that kind of thing.
Empress Marie Theresa of Austria used to instal special short candles when she knew politicians were coming to tea. Once the candles started to go out, she could shove them out the door.
They can build an International Space Station, but troublesome guests are still a problem after all this time. You'd think something electric could be invented.
Now that is excellent. Nice foresigh on ehr part.
I suppose you could always suggest something fun like cleaning the oven or scrubbing the front step.
*foresight, her. You get the idea...
I've admired Marie Theresa ever since. When she wanted to dance all night, the candles were so long they could hardly get them through the front door.
I don't know if the politicians ever tumbled to her little scheme, they were possibly too busy filling in their expense reports.
Politicians aren't the brightest lot.
Especially when the candles are running low.
Complete change of subject, but I 'saw' Novia Scotia on TV the other day.
There's a fleet of tall ships being sailed from Novia Scotia to Belfast - Novia Scotia was fog bound, you could just about make out the shape of some of the boats. I thought of you.
Good heavens. New Scotland and fog. Who knew.
Yes, they mentioned something about it not being unusual.
The Tall Ships are always a highlight for me. I sit and look at them and I'm lost in time.
They're fabulous, aren't they? So graceful.
The Parade of Sail was Monday (I think) in Halifax, and the ships departed for other small NS ports of call.
If we'd thought ahead, we could have got you aboard.
I may borrow my neighbors camera and take some pics and send them to you.
You could have stowed away or earned your keep as a galley slave.
I'd rather be a wench, than a galley slave.
I'm hoping to get a chance to go and see them. They'll be docked in Belfast for a few days and were a huge tourist attraction back in 1992. They've got all sorts of things planned for this time around.
It would be great to get to a high enough vantage point to see them sailing up Belfast Lough.
Oh, do it Haz! Do not miss it. They're fabulous
I may even remember how to use binoculars!
Sure, and I'll remember how to use a vacuum. C'mon now Haz....
The boys were little last time they were here. They're quite excited now, as they're old enough to appreciate them.
Seriously, I had to be shown what to do by ever patient husband. Once I had mastered the complication of taking off the lens caps things slipped into place.
They'll love it then, I don't think you could fail to enjoy how magnificent they look.
Once you know all the tricks, the viewing comes easily. :)
This is true. I'm not frightened by technology, no ma'am.
Which reminds me, are you and your printer on speaking terms again?
Yes, indeed. We reached a rapprochement. I switched off the computer, switched it on again and would you believe, that printer swung into action.
It printed SORRY in big letters. I call that respectful.
It didn't really. Another example of lies coming easily to me. But it did print what I had been asking it to print for about an hour.
Long as no grudges are held, it's good.
No, we've agreed to let bygones be bygones.
A tumultuous working relationship could be bad all 'round.
And no printer or foot was harmed.
Excellent. Police arriving for a domestic distubance could be embarassing.
I did brandish the instructions in front of it, showed it the CD and threatened uninstalling it. That seemed to help.
I know. It's bad enough when they arrive to search to see if I'm really keeping a dog in a cold, dank kennel. Or an international film star kidnapped under the stairs.
Hostage negotiations can sometimes call for drastic measures.
Fortunately I had got a tip-off and got Spangle under the stairs and GC into the garage.
You've got to keep one step ahead of the law.
Resourceful woman. I'd think the underground bunker is almost complete soon?
Yes. We decided it would be best if we didn't apply for planning permission. It's a pain having to deposit little bags of soil every time we go out anywhere.
Those films make it look easy (digging tunnels and disposing of the stuff) but it really isn't.
No doubt. At least it'll be soundproof when complete.
Oh absolutely. It would be ideal for Vicuna to practise her singing.
It'd be a service to the entire International Community....
I know. We're terribly benevolent as well as resourceful. I expect the Nobel Peace Prize any day now.
Everybody else has gone awfully quiet. They're either concentrating on the grid or they're on the phone to report a mad woman on the loose.
Perhaps they're considering the possibility of Esprit's incessant nekkid' Babbling.
She'd be another candidate for the underground room. Vicuna could sing and Esprit could exhibit and the rest of the world could be safe.
I consider Esprit o be the nekkid' Babble Ambassador.
She'll get no competition from me for that particular position.
Morning Haz, Lori. I shan't interrupt your chat!
Good morning hydra - interrupt away, I was getting worried that we were alone. Or not alone but being pitied!
lol, time to kill, chat to fill. G'd morning hydra
How are you?
I had a quick look and thought the bunker was an amazing idea! I could come and be the scribe who writes it all down for history.
Don't ask how I am for I might tell you and then you'll be sorry!
Excellent! We need everything written down for the archives.
Ah, are you one of those people who are said to enjoy ill health?
That's settled then. Quill in hand.
You'll have to be very circumspect and slightly change names to avoid giving offence.
We've not even inquired as to her skills for this esteemed position.
Only temporary ill-health, thank goodness. Tooth and ear infection, one on either side. On second lot of antibiotics and taking loads of live yogurt and probiotic capsules to ward off ill effects.
: )
Good point and well made, Lori. Do we need to get hydra to fill in an application form?
OK Lori, put me to the test! You want my biography?
Or rather, CV.
(Haz to Lori - she looks like a health risk to me -)
LOL :->
***Germs in an enclosed space give me pause***
Perhaps we should focus more on general health than skills? :p
(Haz to Lori - have you got a copy of the 'letting down gently' refusal letter?)
Oh dear. I'll stay outside and maintain a webcam link so I can continue to write.
I don't know. Someone writing a history of a place that they're too sick to enter?
Qualifications: 20 years as a journalist and editor, now a freelance book editor, and 40 novels published. Will that qualify me? Pretty please?
lol Haz. I always think of that letter as being the same as breaking up with "let's still be friends though" type of rejection.
measle
HI opps so much for lurking
I don't know, hydra. What is your position on apostrophes?
OK then. I shall pen a scurrilous account and make my fortune. Thank you, herin!
Painful if you're on the pointed end, Haz.
hydra does seem keen. I wonder how she feels about -----> ???? usage
And now she's holding us to ra6/21.
One at a time, Lori. I hate the teenage diary effect of ???!!!
I'm warming to you more and more, hydra. Your stance on !!!!!! ?
Yes, ransom it is. How much not to dish the dirt?
Oh, you've already said. This is looking more and more positive.
With skis on, Haz. Only way to stay upright on 'em!
She fell for it Haz. That was disappointing. To the PB!
ra6/21 I said for a reason. So much for writing about the bunker, you'll have to do it from the PB!
Okay, next candidate for official bunker scribe?
A definite tick in the negative column. :p
But it's not in the grid, so how have I offended? (sob)
It IS in the grid. Try it and see.
***Look again hydra***
Sticks quill up Haz's nose and stalks off in huff.
Artistic temperament.
***Waits for the glowing red cheeks of the ousted scribe***
Oh yikes! I'm definitely off now. I didn't even spot an r in the grid. I'm still working on left hand top corner. Oh dear. Scarlet flush!
I admire the defense though, points for that. Sticking to her story no matter what!
A fine display of ar8/40, hydra.
Will you be placing that quill somewhere else now?
I know, but do you trust a scribe who can't see an r?
Yep. I bow my head in shame. Mea culpa (no p's in grid.)
Give her new glasses, Haz!
Or a rear view mirror for the r's
This is going to cost money - the appointment of a scribe, I mean. Webcams, glasses, new quills daily.
hydra, a good scribe cannot function on a 25 letter alphabet.
I'll have to look up and see if the budget can stick this.
OK, ok, I'll scrub the floor and wash the dishes. Now can I come in?
Oh, and alphabet chart, I forgot that.
***It's difficult to enter grid words when you've been laughing this hard for an hour***
We'll maybe take you on as a trial period, but if Jacula applies for the position as well, you're going to have stiff competition.
All this has been a big st6/18 on me. I'm off to make coffee. Anyone like on?
I mean 'one'? Don't wanna be mocked for my poor proof reading, too!
Yes, stick on the coffee, a break will do us all good.
Coffee? Yes please.
With milk? Any sugar? Ginger biccy for dunking?
Black coffee for me please.
You're being too good to us, hydra. Don't think we don't know you're trying to butter us up.
*Damn. They guessed*
I'll have latte with a slice of chocolate gateau, and look lively about it.
Herin, are you still here? I suppose you'd like coffee too. Chocolate gateau? Think of your waist, Haz. *Thinks: time to get bitchy*
(Haz to Lori - she's coming out in her true colours now)
Snarking will get you nowhere hydra, and sarcasm? We don't even know the meaning of that.
Sarcasm? We're strangers to it.
Better slip away before I cause any more trouble. Now, where did I put my broomstick?
***She's feisty though, that counts for something***
Just a small touch of irony will do
It does.
Irony? You'll get Lori worried in case she thinks you want her to dewrinkle her clothes.
Nice one, Haz. tres droll
She has NO idea about irony, nor ironing.
No need to press me on the issue Haz. I will never get it. Ever.
Which is why she'd fit in so well to being a wench on a tall ship. No room to swing an ironing board.
This topic is going round in ever decreasing circles.
Anybody else having deja vu?
Anybody else hearing Sonny and Cher?
Wench on tall ship? Yes please! All those hunky sailors. NOW I'm showing my true colours!
No, I'm hearing Flanders and Swann, Haz
I'm having a Yellowbeard moment or three.
I'm hearing Sonny and Cher from that Groundhog day film. I do remember Flanders and Swann though, one in a wheelchair?
Lefthanded honeysuckle and righthanded bindweed?
I'm a gnu.
Think I've finally flipped!
Mad dogs and Englishmen.
That's it! And Tom Lehrer. We'll all go together when we go, and Poisoning Pigeons in the park.
It's okay, hydra, we're used to people saying the strangest things. It does put a big ? over your bunker correspondent suitability.
OK. I'm off to construct my own and you can't come in, so there! *STOMPS FOOT*
Oh my.
(Haz to Lori - definite attitude issues)
It's just a tiny foot, honestly!
Does not respond well to challenge.
Does. Humph.
Haz to hydra - thank you for your enquiry about this position. We will keep your application on file (in the bin) and will contact you if we require your assistance (don't hold your breath).
*crawls away along cyberpath and returns to own room, sadly contemplating failure*
***I'll apply for the restraining order***
(Haz to Lori - I let her down gently, I don't think she suspects a thing)
(Haz to Lori - good thinking, she may be more disapointed than we realise)
disappointed - as I am with my spelling...
Big bottle of wine would help!
You're still on your meds, dear.
Yes, you need a professional scribe, Haz. Hah!
That's a good girl. Drown your sorrows, and conjure up ways to make yourself totally unemployable.
Perhaps some tattoos or piercings.
Really am off now. Work to do. Bunker mentality? Who needs it? *poof*
Bye hydra!
Hang on... (unpoofs self briefly) ... always fancied a tattoo of Pegasus. *poofs again*
I'm going to take a quick break as well. Housework to do (sorry Lori), laundry to do, dog to walk, the excitement never ends around here.
lol, have a good day hydra!
Laters Haz. I shall dive in this grid.
Okay, enjoy the grid, Lori, it's a nice one so far.
Bye all (and herin if still silently observing)
*gone*

Sure, Trif, anytime there is insufficient sunlight, and moreso when one's summer is ra**ed upon.
Good job, fbf
We have had a terribly ra**y July here too.
lest we forget. there are only 154 days until christmas
your too kind :)
saw the latest harry potter last night, btw. Loved the first two hours, HATED how they handled the ending. Feh.
Hello Everyone
trif--read www.vitamindcouncil.org for valuable info on the magic of vitamin D. I take 5000 IU/day.
oh man - don't remind me
hi sadie
I guess that gets me to PB
Hi Sadie
Hi Wolvie
what did they do to the ending trif
oh, and this was fun - I took the "which Hogwarts guy would you end up with" quiz on facebook, and got seamus finnegan. THE IRISH ONE. God almighty.
Hi Scrabbler
Well, nice clue, BR
oh! LOL
A NICE Irish guy, Trif
even better trif
5 ly words
trif - what did they do to the ending?
the basically skipped the funeral in it's entirety. no white vault, no sobbing hagrid, no Fawkes's song. oh, and hey - no battle at Hogwarts either. If I was Emma Watson, I would be pissed. she was ROBBED
TY BR
you are kidding me!?! that was huge in the book
and I found all five ly words hehe not bad for half asleep lol
good for you, sadie
I was looking forward, in a way, to seeing Hagrid at the funeral as that scene, in the book, was SO touching.
no, serious. oh, and no petrificus spell for harry in the astronomy tower. instead he just stands there. making the choice not to act.
Go Sadie go!
hehe ty
wow. I may wait for DVD on this one then - that is terrible
and no moaning myrtle either! I guess she was too expensive.
and no moaning myrtle either! I guess she was too expensive.
whoops, sorry.
Why did JK agree to this version? Or was she not involved in the movie production?
what gets me is stuff that is so central to how the series plays out gets changed or just flat removed. Happens too much
not sure. of course, they may have filmed all sorts of stuff, and had to edit it down, and it will be in the deleted scenes stuff on the DVD. personally, I would have happily sat for the extra 15 minutes the funeral would have taken, and I would have LOVED the battle at hogwarts scene
and hey - did bellatrix burn down the burrows in the HBP? I don't remember that, but it has been ages since I read it....
i don't remember if that was hbp or not either
the trouble is, trif, if they included all the important stuff as well, the movie would have been close to 3 hours long (if not more)
that's why you have more than one part, as they are doing for the last book
yes, and we would have happily watched every second, movieman! I suppose they have to factor in other things, such as if the movie is 3 hours long, you can't run it as many times in one day, and thus not make as much money. The movie business is just that, in the end. a business
Hi all, I have not even planned to gosee the HP film, I just am not sure I'll like it.
hi red
that said, the movie contained a LOT of excellent humor, and the pensieve affects were AMAZING. Also, Rupert Grint was great in this one. And the scene where Katie Bell gets cursed is chilling, and very, very well done
hi Red
hello, HT
hi all...
also, casting as usual was spot on. Jim Broadbent CANNOT make a bad movie, and he was genius as Slughorn.
and as usual, alan rickman is playing a villain
easy there, movieman! we only *think* he is a villian, remember?
Hi Red
is the ye9 a compound word?
no Faith - it is a 'most' word
thanks lynxxx!
I think my favorite Alan Rickman role was in Dogma when he played the angel Gabriel... hysterical.
Hi mom2
hi mom2
Hi all.... sorry, have been lurking this A.M.
I am feeling a bit under the weather today... so I have to keep getting up!
Sometimes I lurk too
I vote for the sherriff of nottingham, mom2
Also, sometimes I just have nothing to add, LOL.
Yeah... but it is a villain role again... in Dogma he is not a villain... just a confused angel, LOL.
I generally like him, period, in anything.
ae7 pls and good morning all
me too. that voice!!!
Also i just love Dogma. If you have not seen it... I recommend it.
oh, galaxy quest, that was a movie that surprised me in every way. I thought it was going to be so stupid, and I LOVED it.
sense & sensibility, total non-villain role, great delicate performance
I have only seen that one in bits and pieces... but my husband and daughter love it.
Oh, I forgot about him in Sense & Sensibility... yes. He was good in that one.
He is talented.
Also, Gary Oldman is one of those actors who is good in everything.
ae 4/4 with an ending that might make you one.
who's he again? older guy with short curly hair?
And Oldman always looks different... it took me 1/2 the Batman movie to realize it was him playing Harvey Dent, LOL.
I agree, mom, but he, to me, is just way creepy. Colin Firth, on the other hand, could be filmed reading a phone book and I would happily pay to attend.
Hursh... he would be difficult to describe, as I said he looks different in everything... he played Sirius Black in Harry Potter.
ohhh, ok
LOL... Colin Firth... love him.
that's what i think about johnny depp, looks different in everything - i'm sure i could have a whole conversation with him and never realize who i was talking to
Hi hurshy
hey sc!
LOL hurshy! johnny depp could have a whole convo with ME and not realize who he was talking to!
OMG... I have loved Johnny Depp since 21 Jump Street!
Good morning, all. I love Alan Rickman in everything he does. He's just so atypical.
can anyone clue me the an6/18 - an7/28 combo plz? Can't get it at all.
Hi Judi
Haha, Trif
hi judi
Hi Sandie
you an6 my head with oil, my cup overflows
I loved alan richman in Love Actually. He was so flawed, and so lovely at the same time
hi Hursh - your nephew is so cute now.
Thanks so much Hurshy.
he was so cute before too!
I have never seen that one. Meant to, but somehow never got around to it.
Can't believe no one's mentioned Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber in Die Hard
how old is he now, hursh
good morning Babblers :)
who was he in love actually? married to emma thompson?
hi.NoNo
yup
he's 21 months
Hi Nono
mm... well, of course that is the first thing I remember seeing him in.
of course Hursh - but now he should be painted by someone
That role kind of set him up for those villain roles he is famous for... so we were discussing how good he is as a non-villain.
I passed halfway and have NBT. Bye for now. My friend is checking out the water level in the local creek. With our abundant ra** yesterday and overnight we might be able to kayak there.
have fun.
Bye Scrabs, glad someone has got ra**
bye scrab
but norman rockwell is dead!
As is Andy Warhol. Goodness. Who does that leave?
there an elephant in Thailand who still paints
well folks, I am 3/4's of the way thru and must be off for a bit - have fun!
does he do portraits, though? i'd imagine it would be more... abstract art.
I'll have to get back to u on that
hi all
Perhaps a photo portrait would be best. Plenty of photographers around.
Stupid Q's.

Hi Scrabbs
Hello Annie of Brooklyn!
Scrabbs, I read in the chat that you take 5000 Vit D a day..
Yep, read that web site, Annie, for valuable info
I will, thanks. I think I should up my intake then. I take 1000 Vitamin D
The magic of vitamin D is being discovered
can someone clue me the first in5/10 plz?
I am struggling with the in's right now too
sandie, very silly
TY, Annie
don't get it Annie. hmmmm.
and plural that in5
got it thanks!
124 left. I must shower and get ready to take on the day. I will check in periodically through the day.
mm another ba** buster:(
carpe diem!
Good morning/afternoon all. Back to find some more nice words.
Hi Haz, Nice words, indeed.
Hi crossy
howdy annie:)
Hiya Crossy, Haz & Annie!
Hello Annie, I liked the grid when I was here earlier, I'm hoping it's still as kind now. Hello cross.
Hi Judi
Hello Judi.
howdy judi,haz et al
Down to 98. Off to do a bit of real work. BBL.
bye, judi
Bye Judi.
i made the tactical mistake of peeking at the list early:(
doorbell, later
Why the mistake?
got blinded by all the ai,s
Ah! You'll know for again.
clue for the second an 7 please
an7 - think in terms of holy oil
oops sorry meant an 7 the first one
I wondered! A plus a bird's nest, finish off with the first letters of Liz Taylor's actor husband Burton
Stupid me, I intended to say bird's home.
that's ok
both those words will get you a priority enrty to the PB haz *grin*
I know. Nice to see you, FM, pity you arrive just when I'm slinking to the PB.
lol Good afternoon, and Hi Boo.
hi
I think its one of those grids today even BR ended up in there this morning.
PB safe clue. To the preceding an4/4 add first letters of three sided figure.
I've been away from it for a while and you end up forgetting what words are there.
Lots of soggy hats and horses round my way today, we have had torrential r4 and thunderstoms on and off all day.
morning fm ;))) ((())
Oh nasty! We had the rain yesterday, today's much nicer. What a shame to get those hats spoiled.
((crossy)) Hi there
mornin babblers!
Haz make yourself comfy in the PB it's going to be a long stay!
Good morning EvaN!
Morning EvaN
hi Evan
crossy makes haz some crepes;)
how are we this fine + lovely friday??
I'm going to have to go down my list of words to avoid further misdemeanours.
Doing fine EvaN, you too ?
Thank you, cross, I appreciate it.
Good morning all! I could not finish yesterday ;( TGIF~
doing ok -- better than yesterday! TGIF!
Good morning sciencegeek - this grid is much more benign.
Hi science
good morning everyone, back to finish up
mm cat is playing in the toilet again brb
Good morning flosey.
Morning flosey!
Haz - I already have 66 in 8 minutes. But, the day is new..... I also have to run a lab with my students so I will have to stop and start
It's a great grid for finding normal words, you can dip in and out.
Let's hear it for normal words!
hear, hear!!
It's not that I'm dead against learning new words, but it's fun to find lots of words quickly.
Well, we all need to feel encouraged at times.
hints for the E beneath the H?
something an artist uses
think painters, Eva
TY newbie. ;) (said with love, of course!)
We can read 'with gritted teeth' font.
You were just giving us all a chance to be kind, weren't you, EvaN?
any clues for the top M???? I have 7. Have not looked at the list yet....
got all but 12
Did you remember mh4/6 from the other day?
mh 4/6
No????? Probably was my first day! LOL
me6...childhood disease
haz, i was being perfectly kind -- its friday + thus im in a great mood! now, if youd asked me yesterday, that would have been a different story...
If you strip back mo7/32, you get quite a few other words. (My mo5/12, if at first you don't succeed, consult morewords)
MH??? Got the disease and plural
there is a me 7/8 that comes from there plus writings you find in a christmas cracker ... and it has just occured to me you have gone pro science - congrats!
and had it as a child, too! Should get bonus points.
sorry that should have been an me 7/9 (not 8)
Hi FM!
Sorry, EvaN, I misunderstood and thought you were being annoyed with yourself at missing an obvious word. Friday is always a good day, isn't it?
Yanks don't do Christmas crackers!
Poor Yanks, no crackers, no pantomimes. You might as well stay at work for all the fun you have.
really science? Canadians do
Christmas crackers?
Ahh, didn' know that! Hi Annie :)
No, we are so silly here. I have friends that do the crackers and I have done them on occasion, but all with Brits
is that like fire crackers?
Ha Haz !
See what you've been missing? Rolled up and decorated cylinders containing a 'bang', presents and the worst jokes known to civilisation.
phaeton - google it = not fireworks.
What ARE Christmas crackers?
we get crackers. :)
ok
interesting, possibly it's more amongst those with brit background here too
they sell them in the stores here nowadays, but most people dont know what they are...heh
Right Eva
See my explanation below. Christmas isn't complete until you've pulled the cracker and donned the silly paper hat.
A Christmas cracker is a small cardboard tube with a paper hat, a small gift and a cracker in it encased in a festive outer covering it takes 2 people to pull it .
The things you learn on Babble
But, has anyone ever had goat
s head soup? Speaking of strange cultural traditions
no, not here!
oops read it all together got split
I used to make my own crackers until good se5/10 prevailed.
Once had a Romanian spouse......
we used to have to have our elgish relatives mail them over when we were younger, but now you can find them here... (especially in stores like TJ Maxx -- which is TK Maxx in elgnad, if im correct?)
I suddenly feel like I felt when having to expalain to a US citizen what a bidet was for and she thought I was teasing her.
TK Maxx, you're right.
se 5/10???? better clue pls I need that one
algish? My, my
They don't have footbaths in the States?
wow. i cant type "england" today...heh
lol FM, had a friend who thought it was for washing feet
elgish, I mean
HAHAHAH on the bidet! I wish I could afford to put one in at home! I love them.
LOL
se5/10 - you have five of them, touch, taste etc.
youll only see those in schmancy hotels here. heh
duh ty
She really really thought I was joking, she hadn't travelled much and I am going back a few years but it was hysterical!
I've always wondered....cold or hot water in a bidet?
or, the wealthy put them in their newly remodeled homes
yes, here too science
phae you want to scald or freeze? use both!
Warm, not too hot, not too cold, phaeton. Mixer taps.
The topics that get covered in the babble log !! LO
L
I know! There's google and then there's us.
Now my students are discussing the pros and cons of bidets in chemistry class.... lovely friday topic
ROFL
I'd worry about what they'd add to a bidet in a chemistry class.
LOL esp if you turn the taps on full so the fountain reaches at least 2 feet high :)
Thar she blows!
allowing for local water pressure of course.
The discussion ensues along with stoichiometry problems - grams to moles
moles to gram
Yes, I've often had discussions along those lines.
what have those poor garden creatures got to do with it ;)
That would certainly be enough to startle a mole.
could someone help me with second se7 please
Being propelled into the air on a bidet fountain.
flosey i need it too
se7 - plural of se6 - sounds and looks a bit like Mack ? comedies.
second se7
Or sounding like one of the legislative bodies in US (different spelling)
pl of the 2nd se 6 which sound like a part of the US government.
hmmm, Mack comedies - never heard of them
Okay, se6/18 -first letters of opposite of junior, finish off with baby louse
And then plural for se7/28
lost hopelessly lost....
First se7 - plural of the type of section of the year (autumn, summer, spring).
thanks Haz, got them
Okay, se6/18 -first letters of opposite of junior, "finish off with baby louse" HUH?
What's opposite of junior?
or Vivaldi's 4 se6/7
i know that but cannot see where i am in the grid
are you being a *** picker science
see it! ty
I am not one of those HAHA
It comes from the s in the second column and heads west.
oh man. gonna be another fun day in the government paradise here...
yw - really didn't think so
What's happening, EvaN?
clue for first column o - have 2 of 3. probably need to print the list
oh, just lotsa work, little time, no direction...

ty Haz

You're welcome.
ar7/28 - to be without painting or pictures or beautiful things.

It really means to be free from cunning or deceit.
yes it does indeed
still waiting for the MH clue
mh4 - m plus first letters of person who looks after guests at a party or when staying in a hotel.
Haz, the ar7 (less Paul Simon) was very very funny
Thank you, Annie. I've got a bit of a twisted mind, I think. science geek will get used to me, I hope!
what is world does that mean? Must be a foreign letter of some sort
Science Geek is a twisted sister, too!
oops what in the world does that mean? Brain is faster than fingers
lol haz, love the cockney fireman clue even though im o,er ere now;))

it said "rashers are not something to see your doctor about"
lol, would go over big in the U.k but say "rashers" here and you get a funny look
ah , may be a bit hard to train to a leash at that age
Bacon jokes! Love it!
exactly. :)
crossy loves hsi bacon science;)
i tried with two of mine when they were VERY young, but they would not have it. as soon as the harness was attached to the leash, they would lie down and refuse to move. "excuse me," they said, "what do you take me for? a dog? this is entirely undignified and i demand my freedom instantly."
i love bacon too we had this short discussion yesterday - t makes me FAT
i have even made bacon vodka science..twice;))
nothing ventured,nothing gained hurshey
cat harneses are not to dear so may give it a go in next few days
Bacon vodka is pushing it, Cross

I was watching, hubby and I were staring in disbelief but I think the president was making a deliberate statement and it was not a mistake
I mean I think it was a mistake but he didn't
TO is confusing adept with inept

do you have guidance counselors teaching that as a course?
problem is, there are all these state mandates and objectives and goals, but no books or material put together, so i'm searching the net, my library, and my feeble brain to come up with activities
no, and we have no time in the schedule for it, so Im curious to see when and how it is implemented. we did put a careers piece in the 8th graders during library, and I suppose we'll beef that up
did you ever wonder why the state does not come up with a "model" curriculum instead of having 600 districts going crazy each doing the same thing?
books and materials do exist, but I don't have them at my fingertips, like when you write curriculum for a course that has a textbook... so it is like slogging through mud
i have had a little spurt and i am down to 61
go Kazz!
Now I don't even know how we do it in my district - I know technology skills are supposed to be integrated in all content areas, not sure about career ed
oh yes, absolutely, and yesterday thought about getting together with counselors from other small districts and saying, I'll do this part, you do that part and we will share
go kazz
someone should sponsor that effort, dorens, like your state guidance counselors association
i tried to work at home today, but finished the grid instead
much better use of time, I'd say
i think i will ask, but it will be too late for this round... this one needs to be done this summer, apparently

Hiya Scrabbler.
How are you this week, Car? How is your new widower friend holding up?
hello scrabs and all.
Hi Owl--how are you on your day off?
He is well as can be expected.
Hello Temple Owl
Hey TO!
Still in shock, disbelief.
there are some pretty dicey words today
Hi, Owl
and i am down to 40
Not as bad as I feared for a big grid though
what happened, scrabs?
Car's friend's wife died suddenly, unexpectedly at 39, with 2 boys 4 and 7
oh my goodness - that is very sad
oh my, that is tragic. what happened?
I am so sorry to hear that, Car

scrbas, what would you say to person with b12 deficiency who appears to test normally otherwise?
I have se4 = homonym for opp of buys
Owl, do you mean the B12 level is normal because of supplementation?
i mean blood work does not appear to show anything
ty for se. pass the fish. at least it's friday.
Hummingbird is nearby, in garden!!
Then the B12 deficiency has been corrected, I guess.
would love to see a hummingbird.
Then it came closer, to the hummingbird feeder near me
Many of my flowers are blooming and those attract the hummers
no scrabs, it has not. poor diet?
we do not get hummingbirds here :-(
hi folks
I don't understand then, Owl. If the serum B12 level is normal then one is not deficient.
Hi k21
Are they tiny, scrabs? the only thing I know about hummingbirds is that they fly backwards..... too many quizzes I guess!
Hello K21
We gert lots of hummingbirds here
Very tiny, and fast, and you know they are around because you hear them first---humming!
get even
Always an old reliable in table quizzes - 'what bird flies backwards'?
sorry scrabs. deficiency exists. all blood work normal except b12 level is low
They hover, Soodle--several weeks ago, when doing gardening, I was wearing a red bandanna (they like red), one was hovering right in front of my face--very cool!
So that is usually a result of poor absorption--read about pernicious anemia.
they also have long beaks to get to the nectar.
that was mentioned. is it bad?
Nope, fairly common as one ages--if I recall (we don't see this in pediatrics much at all) one looses the ability to absorb B12 because of deficiency in production of something else.
treatment = injections of B12
Missing item = "intrinsic factor", Owl.
wondering if being mediterranean has any relevance
i had to have b12 injections years ago - caused by bad diet they think
i eat marmite/vegimite alot, so i guss i am getting enough of the b-vit family.
guess*
i lived off of eggs and tinned spaghetti
with the occasional slice of spam
eggs are good for you.lots of b12 in them
hmm ty scrbas, this hasbeen interesting.
I was updating my knowledge of B12 physiology.

John Sweney was reading a Robert B Parker novel, Bad Business. The narrator refers to “a slightly overweight currently blond woman in a dark blue suit named Edith.†He wondered what she named her other suits.
did car get her fireworks?
yes
see, 8:35
yipee!
lol BR (re named suits)
Hi all. Has anyone seen Ata's 'dear deer' pics on Facebook?
She might well have them on here on Flickr, too.
yes jacula! wasn't that wonderful, they way she rescued that fawn!!!
the way, I mean!
what I find somewhat ironic is the term, "misplaced modifier." I generally can find mine, even if in the wrong place in the sentence.
Trif - have you seen the state of her inner thighs since? Bruised and cut!
I don't like the term "lost a baby" - as if the mother put it down somewhere....always hated that one.
hmmm, no jacula, haven't seen those! ouch!
Must remember to tell her to put a towel or jacket over the eyes of the creature to be rescued next time. It calms and stills them.
I'd have told her to 'hobble' te creature (tie 3 of its legs together) but fawns can die very easily from shock and stress, so not a goot idea.
Trif - very ouch!
poor ata. you try to do a good thing, and you end up all bruised. I agree about the blindfold, that would have helped a lot
it's so against the way they always portray fawns as these gentle, little wobbly things. I guess this proves that any animal will fight and thrash when it feels threatened.
sometimes, euphemisms are worse than being straight forward
I've found, with most animals (except cats) that getting them not quite on their backs, but kind of sitting up, covering their eyes helps. You can also, in many cases, especially rabbits, hypnotise them by gently stroking their bellies. Again, not of that works with cats. LOL
BR, a friend of mine was fighting with her husband, and he snapped "will you stop throwing epitaphs at me!" She dissolved in4 such laughs that the whole fight stopped right there. :)
*no4 of that works, I meant.
epitaphs? PSML. 'Here lies my wife without bed or blankit, Dead as a doornail, God be thankit!' That sort of thing?
at least he did not have to dodge a tombstone
psml?
he meant "epithets"
i know
Becoming incontinent on the bladder front laughing, Trif. (Putting it politely for what pmsl means.)
I know, too, Trif.
ms? is that my self? that's one word, isn't it?
Trif - it's the net way of saying it, don't get too pedantic. LOL
thank you jacula. never heard that before. oh, hey, did we talk about john barrowman the other night? can't remember....he was in a documentary that I was watching
It stems from American shorthand, which I learned in preference to Pitman's when I couldn't do Gregg.
Not us, Trif. But there are many 'Oh what a waste'' female fans of his out there, on Babble in in the wider world.
*and in the wider world.
Has everyone present finished the grid?
he came off very well on the program. very quick on his feet, and a good extemporaneous speaker.
i haven't jac, and I am finding it quite the slog
He's cute but not one I 'fancy', Trif.
I can clue, if you wish, Trif.
thank you, jacula. at the mo I am scarlet to admit I am stuck on a 4. monkeeeez? monkeeeeez?
BR - how true the poem in your bio is.
archaic way , or maybe Greek way, of spelling a very long time (one billion years).
I thought so too. <{:+))
Look to your first e4 for a clue.
Or did you mean, Trif, tht you are stuck on an a4 word?
stuck on an an word, but I got it! onward I go
BR - do I mean Greek or Latin for that ae4? I was rubbish at classics at school.
Having said that, I'd probably be top of the class in a modern school.:/
ugh, getting the dreaded red bars
you are way ahead of me, Jac .. says of Greek origin. I always must look.
Site seems to be working fine here, Trif.
oooh, pride and prejudice is on. WIN
got sidetracked, and now ready to go read my book. see you all tomorrow!
goodnight lbd
BR - like me, you need to know. If I'd attended the local Comp (mixed ability school) rather than the elite Grammar school I went to, I wouldn't aim so high. I'd have always been top and never had to strive. It's much more edifying, challenging and sometimes elating to beat those who have same, similar abilities. And it's extremely satisfying to outsmart those who are smarter.
lbd - Hi and 'bye and enjoy your book, then sleep well. x
first an7?
A friendof mine had a Peanuts poster in his room that read, 'It isn't whether you win or lose, but how you play the game..'
an4.4 + a three-letter word meaning '3'.
Think of the 3 wheeled bicycle.
huh, weird word, thx
BR - but winning tastes so sweet sometimes!
y/w, Shir.
as one whose livelihood for many years depended on being able to communicate well, I still am struck by how often I fail to get the job done.
BR - the job of communicating well gets harder and harder as the Me,Myself, I! culture continiues to make pace. Do you want to go to another level to communicate? That's up to you.

y/w Shir.
Ah! I remember. It was a palindrome - 'able was I ere I saw Elba.'
Arrrugh, I can not sleep...
Can anyone come up with a palindrome or Babble addiction?
Answers on a postcard, please.:)
*for not or
Hi Red. Try my competition then.
I need to sleep, work in am...
Best not try making up palindromes then!
i never hve sleep issues, i am peeved!
going back to try...
Make yourself a mug of warm milk, drink it slowly in a low light in bed and try to drift back off again. At the very least, switch the computer off.
In fact, the less electrical equipment you have in your bedroom, the better you will sleep. My sleep pattern's gone haywire since Beloved introduced a TV/DVD/video, electric alarm clock cum cd player, electric fan etc to the room. I have a battery alarm clock and any lights in the room that have plugs are switched off at the mains.
All of that stuff creates a field of electricity.
as8?

y/w Shir.
Any more clues needed?

I've (apparently, so I'm told) got a baking day ahead of me when I wake up. They've eaten all the stuff I made last week and there are written requests on the kitchen pin board they want me to make. Oooh eer, heck! Ever heard of the term 'making a rod for your own back'? It seems I have done that.
Hi moo.

y/w, Shir.
congrats, moolingwa
BR - Not wanting to offend, because I know how I take it when others comment upon the hours they think I keep, but I think you might get less sleep than me.
I am fortunate enough to work from home and so can mostly choose my own hours (around family expectations) and get 8 hours sleep.
Unless noisy people disturb me (which often happens).
I always am asleep until I wake
2nd tr7?
tr -- t + kidnappers may hold someone hostage for a ******

LOL BR!
A good thing BR gave the tr clue as, I'd probably have given a complicated window/door clue re architecture, since I studied it and expect everyone else to know what I do. LOL

as 8 please
BRB - just have to raid in for a coouple more giner biscuits. Why on earth Beloved and Stepdaughter think hey are 'boriing' is beyond me and my son. They are delicious and a real kick.

Madi - surely you must be at least 16 by now?

Oh, jac is still here. 8^)
Haha, no Jac. Thirteen and a half :)
i have 108
If not, I must've wasted a long time defending what I thought was a teenaged girl against a nasty person.
as usual with grids, the more words you find, the fewer you have to find
Oh, well I see I did waste my time. Night.
be well, Jacula
wasted time? nasty person? so confused...
i've gotten the farthest I've been tonight with no list at 145. Hit a wall at 150, and I can't seem to climb it...
