Husband was recalling an incident from years ago. He had taken a student out with him to visit a farm in the Glens (this was over the Christmas period). The farmer, a jovial chap, insisted they would come in for a drink, husband knew what it was (poteen) mixed with a chocolate liqueur and managed to pretend to take a sip. A call came through that they needed to go back to the surgery for a lambing. The student had a full glass of this stuff which he downed in one gulp. On the way back to the surgery he became progressively greener. The crowning moment came when the sheep proved to be producing dead, smelly lambs.....

The poor student had to be taken home and was off work the whole of the next day. The moral of the story is NEVER drink moonshine and expect to be feeling good.

Absolutely. Vets in the practice think they should have a bag with the smell of dead lambs so that they can let prospective veterinary students have a sniff.

I never see her nibbling at her tail, only licking, but she must do sneakily when I'm not looking or else the blister would go down!

I have one I've cut down in the past to be the right width for Hobbit to stop nibbling, but small enough that she can still see and move around easily

If it's an elderly dog, it may be displaying signs of senility.

Senile dogs behave very strangely but people don't tend to think of dogs as having the same problems as people.

Sometimes if dogs aren't able to see so well, they become fearful and disorientated.

Hard to tell...sometimes she seems to track well, and other times she doesn't notice what's in front of her...
She barks when she's alone...
maybe she gets anxious that she can't see you
It's probably time for another visit to the vet for an exam...

Nef, tails over here in dogs are only allowed to be docked in certain breeds and at two days old. It's nothing to do with the tail being docked, it's probably more to do with anal gland issues that Hobbit has.

I have a question for those of you in GB. I was just reading the news about all of the problems because of the snow and was then surprised to read that it was 8 inches. Is that considered a lot of snow there? Why does it create such dire problems?

Yes that is considered aot..and they say it is a problem because they do not have much in place to deal with it....they keep saying every year that it is rare we get that much snow, and do not need to spend mony on resources to deal with it...it is rather comical to be honest.

my best friends little girl (who was i think about 5 at the time) ASKED her mom if she could donate to locks of love, after having seen something about it on TV. they got her hair cut right around thanksgiving, and on christmas eve that year, as her mom was tucking her into bed, she asked "mommy, will some little girl get my hair for christmas?" i about swooned when my friend told me about that!

Scrabbs - we had one bunny that got pasturella through the trauma of leaving her mum and siblings and coming to us. She came through it but ended up walking around with her head upside down. The vet told me she'd never get over that. I gave her calm, peace, warmth and gentle massage and within 2 weeks her world was the right way up again.

lbd - When I went back to the doc today for more antibiotics for the double middle ear infection and to make an appointment to have my left ear syringed (I'm almost totally deaf in it due to a wax plug along with the infection), the doc told me it was due to wearing earplugs to drown out the snoring. That was just after I'd told him that the only plus point to being deaf was that I couldn't hear the snoring. Tee, hee! If there's a way to blame a man for all your ills it's great if it's another unwitting male that gives you the ammo.
