I am having a completely unproductive day, that is a serious pitfall of this game
sandy, your icon pictures the one I was describing in my writeup :)
HU 7 X 2
gosh, I didn't realise it had changed, it took long enough, I will write a blurb
(other than the one in my icon)
Down to a paltry five blank tiles
I had a cat named Banjo..he was named after a cartoon cat
ca8 is the other 8
our banjo is named after our famous Banjo Patterson, who wrote poems and short stories about australia
awesome sandy!
thx josh ;)

wtg josh!
congrats josh!
wtg josh
bye MLF
night mlf
goodnight mlf
Haggis has a mystery-meaty taste, kind of like liverwurst, but with other flavors in it. As The Bard said, it's the "great chieftain o' the puddin' race!"
YAY josh!
bye mlf
my last word was one of 3 co5/14's
ok, I have written my icon blurb, I think you mite need to refresh to read it
thx josh
great writeup sandy
past 1/2-way!
like I said, next goal: sleep!
wouldn't leave home without it
interesting...liverwurst is not a favorite of mine
It's there, sandy -- but I think you need a comma between fork and bodkin.
darn!! and I always check it
night all ... have a good one!
that is an interesting write up!
Anyway, I'm so glad to picked that one -- that earpick got me a tad amazed!
goodnight Pini
nite pini!
gn coach hugs
night pini :)
:) * poof *
i don't think I'll be carrying around an earpick..lol
lol, don't they say, nothing smaller than your elbow?
Zes, do you know how to read our profiles
100 down and crashing. Good night, all :)
i just click on ur icon right?
i cant add friends though, im not premium enough lol
gn cyber
nite nan!
zesty, when you go to Who's Online, doesn't it say Add to Friends on the right, in red?
nope
feel free to add me =)`
Hmf!
apparently i have to pay for that privledge
Of course, I paid up right away when I came here so I never realised that.
would if i could
zes, It's well worth it to become pro, if you continue to play\which we hope you do
Zesty, you get a free ride for two weeks -- after that, no more tile stats, no more fireworks, no more knowing how many words in the grid.
me too jilli, when i realized how nice everyone was!
lol never seen any fireworks anyways
trust me if i had the money, i would
guess i'd better enjoy the rest of my 11 days then
You will, when you get used to things and ask for clues and use Lickety and morewords
Jilli, wouldn't etuis be a nice thing to make a collection of? They are so charming
when I first started playing I didn't realize you actually saw fireworks..lol...until I finished my first grid!
(that's you will get fireworks)
isnt that latin?
yes, sandy -- there are so many variations on the theme, aren't there!
isn't what Latin? Etuis? It's French.
Me too robbie, I dont think I ever saw fireworks for about a year (I always wondered what the 'fireworks' were) I was too shy and reserved to ask.
that's a very pretty one you have for your icon jilli!
lol k oops. will someone tell me about the themes?
I thought it was too, robbie.
icons are what we can put into the little pictures you see, and we do a little writeup on them, very educational
I always find the icon for the day by looking at sprite's profile - is there another way?
I never realized they could stand on a table like that!..very nice!
A babbler called sprite lists the daily icon themes in her profile. Any babbler can send it suggestions. Many players don't follow the themes, as you will have noticed. It's fun to look them up on Google and find images there.
so the themes dont have to do with the words in the puzzle?
You can find sprite in the Rankings, and her URL is http://tinyurl.com/6z7unz
sometimes..lol
on Fridays we usually clue a word from the grid as the day's icon
sometimes the icon theme is use a word in the grid
no, Zesty, except that on Fridays the icons can be clues
gotcha, and ty e1 for helping me with my endless ?s
yw -- that's how you find out what's going on
I have to go, bbl, my life is passing me by!
bfn sandy!
bye sandy!
take care sandy
I'm half way, so I'll go as well
tc robbie
nice to meet you zesty hope to see you again
ty ditto
nite jilli!
goodnight Zesty and Robbie
have been falling asleep here!
gn flosey take care
bye robbie
nite flosey!
*poof*
ty all for being so welcoming!
hope to see you back Zesty
night flosey -- everyone's leaving!
ditto flosey ty
not me, im just taking a break to walk the dog =)
brb and gla
I'm not leaving yet, Jilli, have to reach at least 1/2 way
5 more words
Oh, I thought you said you were falling alseep.
...and I'm just gettin here! hi ladies...and any gents lurking...
I passed halfway some time ago -- 92/65 at this point
yes, I have been, jilli, but can't give in to it until 1/2 way - busy tomorrow
Hi Pav!
wtg jilli
my cable went out over the weekend...I was not happy...
very annoying, Pav
oh, bummer, pav!
presuming that ties up both TV and computer?
I'll not making any excuses Miss Jilli, but I took the low-brow route and didn't go Sat even...church was too special that night for me to consider ruining the good vibe...
...and now that I've been fixed...?...I also asked them to cancel my tv service...winging it off the I-net for now...
I seldom watch tv but would miss it if it wasn't there
does anyone have a clue for hu9?
flosey, think tornadoes etc
not hip hip horrah, but hip hip _______
not me :(
I've been watching most of the shows I remember to watch off their channel's web page or hulu.com
thanks diz
maybe thats not the right one, i'm learning
ah, must check that out Pav, thanks
thanks jilli, got it
will never forget Hu Hazel when she blew through Toronto!!
excpet. I believe Hulu.com is for the American audience only...there's another free tv on the web service , but it's name escapes me...(not htat difficult these days)
nbt, with a little help from my friends, and morewords
oh, thanks, must check to see if there's anything here in Canada
wtg doug
thanks diz for the hu 9!
flosey, what were you thanking me for? Saying I didn't have hu 9, lol?
Oh, Diz, I gave credit to wrong person, thank you
yw jilli and flosey
as I said, am falling asleep
4 more words and I can go to bed
got it, 79/78 can now go to bed, goodnight everyone
gn flosey
once through Lickety and 100 found
Oh, the Ruben Carter
Night flosey!
wtg jilli
Ruben Carter?
was just about to ask also jilli
Yeah, the boxer Bob Dylan wrote a song about
NBT! Gotta close my eyes now! Night everybody!
Have never been able to figure out what Dylan is mumbling about
wtg kimm, and g'night!
well done kimm, sweet dreams
waiting to hear about BD's song
Lyric sites taking forever to load...going to bobdylan.com
lots of hu 7's
and an hu 9
just completed the mo wrds
Rubin (not Ruben) Carter was a middleweight boxer who was convicted of murder, but the conviction was overturned.
Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night Enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall She sees the bartender in a pool of blood Cries out, “My God, they killed them all!†Here comes the story of the Hu9 The man the authorities came to blame For somethin’ that he never done Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been The champion of the world
Denzel Washington was in the movie about Rubin Carter, but I didn't see it.
I like Denzel Washington
he should have won the oscar in Malcolm X
Dylan's song is a great song...it's a pity that the full story is a little murkier than Dylan's song
good morning. I love that song, Douglas, old old Dylan fan
hello ruby
hello flosey, nice grid for jumping right in!
ok, 100 down, 57 for tomorrow, goodnight all
poof
just saw you, ruru! Hi!
hi jilli
hi ruru and hello jilli
hi ruby :)
I have failed to convince my children that Bob Dylan is seven kinds of amazing
hey.. I am in the grid
and ruru 'is in the grid! Hi ruru!...pardon me for skipping away...not feeling well after din...
12yod and 9yod were unimpressed by "Blood on the Tracks," thought by many, including me, to be one of the great Dylan albums
sorry to hear that Pav. Who cooked dinner?
that is his best album.. doug...
I loved Bob Dylan in the 60s, Doug
and the DOgs run free album
Sizzler's...my neighbor treated...
sizzler's ugh
poor pav
That was kind of the neighbour.....
hi sandy
I ra4ly turn down free food...
There's at least one good Dylan album in every decade, in my opinion
...and I've had three days of 18 hrs awake so am a bit sluggish
as long as you don't do the grid at a snail's pace pav
Jacob Dylan is supposed to have inherited the genes as well...
I'm at 26...but tomorrow's another early day...dr appt in the pm
I hope Jacob can enunciate words
this grid is so much friendlier than the last few!
The Christmas album was a misfire, in my opinion, but there are so many other songs to remember
I have my whites in the dryer, and need to be awake enough to pull the shirts out for tomorrow...
May I please have a clue for ra8-50? Thanks.
Moira MacTaggert is in the grid, that scientist lady who is involved with the X-Men (and Charles Xavier)
PB for doug!
dougie to the pb now
sorry, peach, don't have it
Thanks anyway, jilli.
Oops, my bad *trudges off to PB, contemplates snacks, recalling scones when thinking about you-know-who MacTaggert*
well the mo5 the merrier I have always said doug
Hmm...I only have 12 of the c's
c's are my favorites!
I don't know why
26 here...8 to go
Cs are hard!
no big ones, but 23 small ones
morewords helped me get them though.
what is morewords?
lol i need all the help i can get =)`
www.morewords.com
ok, ty
A clever dictionary search, zesty
trying to catch up to all you "pros" lol
83 words in 1/2 hour, a record for me! now I had better get dressed. See you later
wtg and tc
I thought you were an ex-Tangleworder, Zesty
i am
well done, ruby!
why would you think otherwise?
most Tangleworders who come here already know a lot of the weird words
and know about morewords etc
i never used any help
purist, eh? ;)
lol apparently. i really dont like that i need outside help for this game/site
you don't have to use it -- just ask for clues as many do
kinda feels like those with computer skills succeed where i just want to rip my hair out lol
kinda feels like those with computer skills succeed where i just want to rip my hair out lol
kinda feels like those with computer skills succeed where i just want to rip my hair out lol
kinda feels like those with computer skills succeed where i just want to rip my hair out lol
whoa SORRY
as we've said before, this is a cooperative game, not a competitive one, so peop e really like to give clues -- it's fun too.
yeah, i like the cooperative nature and chatting
that was the hiccup which always happens at this time (2 am grid time)
The nicicity of the people here is one of the great things about Babble
lol, good to know, and sry bout my regurgitation
too bad after 2 weeks apparently i wont get these amenities
no prob, happens to lots of people ntil they know about it
I am amused that ca5 ca5s off the west wall
you'll still get the chat and the clues and Lickety's list
lol, doug -- it does!
ok good lol, thats all i get now
you get the tile stats now too, under the grid. You won't after 2 weeks
lol dont understand them anyway! wont miss them!!
again, thanks for answering all my ?s ... i know it must be annoying. but some stuff cant be answered by reading the instructions, ya know?
ps- i'd like anyone that wants to, to add me to friends, since i cannot do so
They are a good help, zesty -- they tell you how many words start with the letter in each tile
There's no point in doing that, zesty.
eh, they just confuse me and make me lose focus lol
no point? eh?
May I please have a clue for ca6-24? Thanks
Let me give you a "for instance" -- there is only one word which starts with a Q. None start with the O next to it.
Very simple.
gotcha, but the same info can be found from the lickety, yes?
ca6.24 the person at the cash register is the cas****
No, zesty, Lickety's list doesn't tell you which tile the word comes from. And sometimes Lickety doesn't post the list.
Thanks, lynxxx.
peach, I was going to say it's a French notebook.
yw peach
well, just , grrrrr
I am amused by er5/12, as both the word and it's meaning are names
morning all
bathroom break, brb and gla
Thanks you, jilli.
gm sprite, welcome
Morning sprite
hi Sprite
grrr doug, now im curious
hi all, thanks for the welcome :)
hello sprite, hope you are feeling well
hi sprite!
It appears in crossword puzzles quite a bit
lol so does not help me
Miss Jong
oh sandy I love your etui! No, still not well, but stubbornly holding on to the belief it is a little better ever day. Thanks for caring.
thanks sprite, and hope you are eating well and sleeping well to help you get better
I love YOUR etui, sprite!
your icon too, jilli, and your writeup, lovely
ok doug- whats funny about er5/12
hehehe isn't it beautiful! But very very expensive. And I see I am wrong in my writeup, the english etui doesn't only mean needle holder. Let me correct.
doug, that er 5 is a kind of heather (which can also be a girl's name)
hello again
wb flosey
thanks doug for the er words
hi flosey -- sleepless in saltspring?
Yeah, that it's one of the few words I know where both the word, and the meaning of the word, can be a girl's name...can't think of any others, can you?
lol cant think of that one...
lol, Jilli - have you seen the moon? It's gorgeous, when I woke and came out it was so bright in here
zesty -- another use for the tiles is that when you've found all the words which come from them, they turn grey so you know you needn't look for any more coming from there.
nice and interesting writeups sprite and jilli and Jilli what a good suggestion, I have learnt something
so E0/1?
hi flosey!
but we did have joseph yesterday, Douglas
i need one nvm got it ty
No, flosey, I've seen nothing but the computer and the TV, lol! Will go and look . . .
your etui is sweet, flosey
you must see it, Jilli
ty sprite
joseph and joes
our moon was huge and red last night- they say there is 'blood on the moon' when it is like that and it means that tonight someone will .....die! (old wives tale of course)
ok does this er rhyme with anything?
sandy- also means rough seas
Zesty, start with Mr Clapton's first name, then add a vowel to make it a girl's name.
Sprite, your pencases are lovely
Zesty, E 0/1 meand that there is one word starting with E which comes from that tile, but you haven't found it. When you find it, it will say E 1/1 and turen grey.
thanks flosey
oh geez, im dumb... ty lol
and ty for not treating me like im an idiot!!!
didnt know we could do proper nouns
sandy, that is no tale, it is the hard truth. Every night with a red moon somebody dies. Of course, every other night, people die too ;)
we've all been there Zesty
Zest, when I started I made the mistake of not asking and it took me ages to jell, your way is the way to go
we cannot, Zesty. Do proper names, I mean. No words that are capitalised. But some names are also normal words. Like the heather.
well, lets pretend that the person who dies is an evil murderer person and the world is better w/o them
So true Sprite
ahh ok gotcha ty again
how can there be 8 n's , I only have one!
*grins at sandy*
and 34 c's
hah bra size nice
hah *smug* I have 2
I don't feel so alarmed now, Sprite (not that I believe old wives tales)
and joseph is a kind of cloth
sry, im delerious.... been up for too long, ignore me
I have 12 c's and really wish that was my bra size
Zesty, did you know that the ? beside the words in the list lead you to a definition?
Some of the n's are a bit slangy, sandy
12c? you'd be like a 7 year old silly
they usually are founded in some kind of truth, sandy, lol. But common sense tells us often enough it isn't something spectacular. Oh didn't you love the word somewhen yesterday?
that made me see one thanks doug
NOOOOO i didnot!!!
I would like to be 7 again and know what I know now
however, that doesnt help for the words you dont have yet...
Lots to learn here ;)
ditto sandy
god if I only don't ever have to be 7 again
that 'somewhen' I have never heard b efore
flosey -- too many clouds here, hiding most of the moon
somewhen was a word? In a grid?
yes, doug -- silly, eh?
I'd like to hear someone put the word into a sentence
somewhen over the the rainbow
hmmm, will go visit my grandson somewhen??
one word at a time, Zesty, and don't feel dumb if you don't see them. most of us have been playing this game for quite a while and practice makes... nah, no way perfect, lol, not with babble. But less blind, yes.
ask a drunk person flosey =)
I remember that grid because it had three w4's starting in whe
I met you somewhen, flosey
flosey: When are you finally going to grow up? Answer: somewhen.
lol zesty
Some of us remain blind
i feel like i should be better since i was a tangleworder...
yesterday, Douglas
lmao very nice sprite
haha and jill
lol Sprite - maybe never!
Zes: it is interesting to note that Sprite is one of the most accomplished Babblers and English is her second language (she is a hero)
u guys crack me up, brb
quite impressive
hahaha that is what somewhen means... some very unspecified time and place, or rather never
I want to be like sprite when I grow up
Sprite, did you ever live in an English speaking country?
hey you guys are making me blush. And it isn't even true, Zesty, there are many babblers loads better than I am.
I wish, flosey
your English seems so natural Sprite
awww jilli you stole my line! I want to be like you when (if) I grow up.
Hehe, sprite ;)
flosey: for the bigger part I owe that to you, I learn so much from the chat. And I read a lot of english, that helps too.
lol do you recognise this: you type in a weird word, it is valid and you wonder: where on earth did I see that before and how did I remember it is a word? And no idea what it means.
you are amazing sprite - I am ashamed to admit, I don't even speak French - it wasn't compulsory when I was in lower school
I always wished they had made both French and English compulsory from very early schooling
I am nothing special. And why be ashamed? English is a world language, so one can expect to be able to use it in many places. Dutch is... well... lol. I think even Afrikaans is better known than Dutch. We must learn other languages or we cannot communicate. And as a trade nation, we always realised that so it is common here to speak a bit of several languages.
oh yes that would have been great, flosey. Learning a language is so easy when you are a child.
Sprite, I think you might be slightly special
sprite, I've been around here a long time, and I can tell you: you are something special. :D
lol sandy, aren't we all?
jinx sandyloo!
in our own ways I guess we are
aw thanks, now stop it because I am literally blushing
lol meli
it could be your temperature causing that Sprite
so nice to see you, btw, melissa! How've you been and how is the music going?
The rankings, both Cream of the Crop and Village Elders, dispute your claim that there are many Babblers better than you. A few with higher rankings
We made sprite blush! Hee hee, we win.
I always feel the rankings express how stubborn one is, not how good. I hate to leave a grid unfinished, always wondering if there are new words to learn.
Aw sprite, it's been a long while hasn't it? Thank you so much for asking, we're still making music and plugging along. I just started playing again after a long hiatus and couldn't resist saying hi when I saw you here.
But stubborn has negative connotations. How about "blindly persistent in the face of all reason and common sense?" No wait, that didn't come out right
yes missed seeing you here! Glad you are still playing. It may not make you a millionaire but it must be so great to do what you really love.
errrrr well Douglas, exactly!
Sprite, I hear what you are saying and now I am trying to get over that feeling so I can play and still go and do other things
babble took me too much time in the early days, but now I am fast enough to finish grids and still have plenty of time for other things, so I don't try to kick the habit ;)
It's helpful when you never have millionaire illusions, ha. But yes, it's great doing what I love after years of daydreaming about it and just deciding it was worth the work even if it would never be my "job". It's a privilege to be able to follow a creative passion.
Oh no! Nicky is watching that 'reflection of real life show" The Bold and the Beautiful (I dont like it)
But persistent is a pretty good word, just by itself
true, Douglas. We could hide behind persistent and look pretty normal.
good one Doug
think I need a snack, brb
sandyloo, that show is as old as the world, right? In dutch it is a hoot. It is about fashion and it has a Brooke (broek = pants), a Ridge (rits = zippers) and a Thorn (torn = tear in clothes)
anyone um. this is prob. easy but, ai4,4
I always thought you were so sharp, Sprite, even in the early days...it's rather scary to suppose you've gotten even better. But I'll stop making you blush now.
Sprite, I hope your seemingly intimate knowledge does not mean you are an avid viewer
no it is not that easy, Zesty, not a very common word. It is what you breathe + a consonant. And when you have found it, put a C before it.
Add a nurse, zesty
lolllll sandy, years and years ago, the daughter of a friend of mine was hooked on it. I lived with them and saw more of it than I cared to.
lmao okay, you both have confused me to no end! i should stop asking for help because honestly, im dumbfounded... okay... lets see how long this takes me lol
ai4/4 -- what you breathe + a consonant
snap, jilli :)
My mother who is a very intelligent woman, watches it too
yes, sprite -- but I was so slow!
ooooh, wait, no...
to each his or her own drug, sandy ;)
k nothing i tried, im going to feel so dumb once its done...
true - even I have habits that are not to be admired
if I were really that sharp, I could find biggies earlier in the game.
you sandy? Nah! *giggles*
If it comes down to it, zesty, just try all the 4-letter words that start with ai... no wait, that didn't come out right
I DID!
By that metric, I'm about as sharp as safety scissors.
that reminds me ...wine o'clock is approaching
for what you breathe, zesty, start with the A in the 2nd row. Then the I below it. Then look up to the right, and then up again over the A.
lol jilli
take the word for the stuff you breathe, Zesty. Then check in the grid which consonants could follow. Only 5 consonants are possible.
Zesty - do you have the ca5.12 mound of rocks? drop the c
lolllll jilli!
hi lyn, wb
I didn't have the mound of rocks, thanks for that
why wont it work???
my grid is defective!!!
hm, thanks Sandy, I needed that one too
*happy dance* got a 7, got a 7
hu6.27!
that ai 4/4 word's ? doen't give a definition, but Google shows that it's Scots for "iron"!
I have 3 7's but no 8 or 9
Zesty, did you follow my directions?
"to the letter"
Well, it should have given you the word. I can't be any plainer than that without spelling it out.
even infoplease doesn't have any more than that, jilli. Iron it is... god I love Scots.
i think im defective .... lol
i know and i thank you jill, wasnt asking you to spell
just let it be for now and co4 back to it later, Zesty. Babble blindness is something we all know.
=)
where are you zesty?
I can't understand why you can't get the word from the directions I gave you at 2:51 grid time
i guess i should feel better then, that i couldnt get it lol
NY, i donno! i typed in every single possibility, repeatedly, starting with jill's suggestion
I think Babble should never make anyone feel bad. It is a game, it should be fun. We all have our blind moments and in the beginning even more, because everything is new. Once you feel comfortable with the grid, you will find that your tangleword experience is a big help.
lol ty sprite, and it does help, for the first half of the words =)
see? :D
Amen, sprite.
and if you're in NY, it's 4:am - you deserve to be very tired
but yeah, i think im gonna go, ty e1 and gn and gl

Evening/morning all Wanted to change my icon to follow the theme today but for so4 reason it doesn't want to work today.
i did, its bright white
exactly sandy, I know the feeling!
aw FM, that is a shame, really would have liked to see your etui! And good morning to you.
gm FMitch
hi FM
Oh, is it etui today? I should have taken a photograph of my collection, all well-worn, of course...
Night zest and hello lynxxx, spritey sprite and flosey and all.
=)`
ah, the cat sound. Must be the word with the most spellings in english, grin.
I don't think you saw the directions I mean, zesty. I'll repeat them here: An etui (also spelt etwee) is a woman's ornamental case, usually carried in a pocket or purse, but some are made to stand on a table. They hold small tools for daily use such as folding scissors, bodkins, needles, hairpins, tweezers, makeup pencils, etc. Some etuis were also used to carry doctors' lancets. These boxes were made of different materials such as wood, leather, ivory, silver, gold, tortoise shell, mother of pearl, and shagreen. The most common type of decorative box is the feminine work box. It is usually fitted with a tray divided into many small compartments for needles, reels of silk and cotton, and other necessaries for stitchery. The date of its origin is unclear, but 17th-century examples exist, covered with silk and adorned with beads and embroidery. No lady would have been without her work box in the 18th century. In the second half of that century, elaborate pains were taken to make these boxes dainty and elegant. On the other hand there is another one shown which is a silvery metal and very small -- a flattish tube about 3" (8.5 cm) long x 1½" (4.2 cm) wide -- and contains tools for daily use. They include folding scissors, pencil, fork, knife, corkscrew, bodkin, tweezers, ear pick (!), and an ivory writing board. There is a soft leather wrap for it. Goodnight Zesty, but if you haven't gone, I don't think you saw the directions I gave, so here they are again: An etui (also spelt etwee) is a woman's ornamental case, usually carried in a pocket or purse, but some are made to stand on a table. They hold small tools for daily use such as folding scissors, bodkins, needles, hairpins, tweezers, makeup pencils, etc. Some etuis were also used to carry doctors' lancets. Zesty, in case you haven't left and did see the directions I meant, here they are again: start with the A in the 2nd row. Then the I below it. Then look up to the right, and then up again over the A.
Greeting Haz!!
morning Haz, that would be great
ouch jilli, lol
Good morning/evening all.
darn, emperor is a phantom
hi mitch and haz
Sorry -- don't know how all that happened! The copy and paste didn't work!
Hi sandy and jilli
morning Haz
it worked but pasted both your profile and your chat text.
Haz, how is the glitery one this morning?
<<<blush!>>>
She's okay, there'll be no rapid improvement, it could take a week or two. Attending To The Paws...
what's with her paws, Haz?
Ahh the most important task of the morning :)
*hugs jilli*
It's just the normal grooming process, Sprite, lick, lick, lick, get all the hairs in place.
can anyone help me with the last pe4?
a girl must have her beauty routines
who's doing the licking haz?
oh ok, then the improvement should be in something else?
hi jaeleigh
Hi, y'aqll!
lolll sandy
Yes, sprite, if you read my profile it gives details.
pe4/4 Mexican coin
That was it! Hoorah! Firewords!
Congrats jae
Congratulations jaleigh!
Ty, FM!
Congrats Jae
gratz jaeleigh
thanks Haz. I hope she will be feeling chipper very soon!
I see that pe4/5 our purple flowered babbler is in the grid again.
anyone want a clue before I go back to bed?
hello
hi lady
Hope she gets better on the treatment Haz, My sister had her thyroid taken out and is much better now
So do I! It's no fun having to drag a dog.
Read yr profile Haz...does that have any serious side effects? Glad you followed up on your 'feelings'
Hi, Herin!
Hello, herin.
Hi herin
How you all>?
hi Infernal
Good night and day all -- happy babbling!
plus one can only evade Animal Rescue for so long...
bbl, time to do some work
Bye sandy
lynxxx, apparently the treatment (which will probably be for life) is quite simple and effective. If I'd let her go on, she'd have ended up obese, with hair loss and being even more lethargic.
night melissa, glad you popped in!
bbl...poof
I have to go to bed! Goodnight everyone and happy babbling!
night jilli, sleep well and dream even better
Nighty night jilli
Goodnight, jillibus.
Good night all...or day...or whatever *poof*
Me too! It's nice to see familiar faces and new ones as well!
night Douglas
NIght OSGMA
Goodnight, Douglas.
Bye Doug & Jilli
Haz does this mean Spangle will be more springy soon?
Missed saying hi, Haz and FM -- and glad Spangle is on the mend.
missed your return too, herin -- sorry!
G'night Douglas, and now, *poof*
I hope so, herin, I know she's 9 and isn't going to be as active as she was when she was a puppy, but it will be nice to have her prepared to walk for more than 2 minutes without sitting down.
getting sleepy again, only picked up 14 words, so off to bed
goodnight all
Goodnight, flosey.
night flosey!
Good night to all of those leaving.
That will be good if she gets back to normal Spangle.
even if she only feels better, it is worth it, Haz
There are a few unusual words in the grid again , like the so6/24!
NOT IF When. Shhesssh stupid cold
Feel better soon herin!
*off to find that unusual so6*
We've had it before, but it's been ages.
thanks fm
right if that is the case that SO is going to need morewords
The ending is masculine, herin.
Had better go and get dressed got an upholsterer coming round soon to measure for new covers for sitting room furniture. Back in 10.
almost guys with a foot fetish
thanks FM :)
LOL sprite!
o Ta
I bet the uphosterer has an industrial sized etui.
either that or a huge car
grin
That's true. Maybe that's what those stretch limos are used for during the day.
of course! You have such a sharp eye for those things, Haz.
Glamour machines by night, furniture shifters by day. It's a good use of resources.
Hate to burst the bubble but he is not taking the furniture awaybut will make a mock up cover and then take that back to the workshop and recreate it in the chosen fabric.
Spoilsport.
sorry :)
if I cannot tell the difference, I will not mind
He is going to be for about 2 hours and I am planning on using that time in the garden before the day gets too warm.
Ok question. If an advert had a man with 2 girls advertising tools and then slaps them on the butt as they walk passed would that be deemed sexist and taken off tv?
And have you chosen the fabric already, FM?
where is Ata, btw? She will love to see that 'acri' is in the grid.
do the ladies object, lady?
Yes Haz, a very pale cream with a slight same colour pattern.
I don't know, herin. It seems to be entirely acceptable to depict men as complete idiots. Women are a different matter.
Ata is away for 2 weeks.
no but the point is if this was the reverse of the ad I just saw at 630pm I am sure it would be taken off tv.
sounds lovely, FM.
Herin I think here in the UK an ad like that would be allowed.
We have an advert for oven cleaner 'So simple, even a man could use it'.
here it wouldn't be a problem, though it wouldn't be a success.
aO and there is a car ad that has a man oglying at a lass wearing short shorts and the comment is ''You catch the bus because you like the view'' sigh
lolllllllll Haz really? Now that is sexistical...
It annoys me, to be honest, because time and time again, men are depicted as being morons. I know it's a reaction against women being depicted as dumb and for decoration only, but two wrongs don't make it right.
I would like to say that even the instructions would have to be man proof. They can't even check the bread ties to see if the bread is funky BEFORE it leaves the store
indeed. Things would be so much more pleasant if we just could all agree that men and women aren't the same, but are equals.
Instructions? You expect instructions to be read? That goes against the desire to experiment and explore.
Haz you would love this advert for Foxtel that has a man being typically sexist 'woman likes the cooking channel and there is the sports'' Cuts to him pulling a cake out of the oven that he just made and her yelling about getting her a drink
Men dont read instructions or maps!
they like figuring things out for themselves. And shouldn't things be self explanatory anyway?
Maybe thats why men invented satnav so they could ignore a woman telling them what to do *grin*
Anyway must go for now, catch up later.
Bye FM. Have a good day.
To be far my mother doesn't read bread tags either
male and femaile brains don't work exactly in the same way. Once you know, you can benefit from the knowledge :)
bye FM, hope the upholstery will come out lovely
Absolutely, sprite, and thank goodness for it.
*female
it always makes me smile when my love says: "I have really looked for my pen/book/etc. Could you please find it for me now?"
awww
he claims he can look for things very very well, it is just that he cannot find stuff ;)
Mum used to say ''don't make me get up and find it'
It's more likely to be the other way round in our house. Husband is tidy to a fault and will remember where he put something a year ago. Unless I've shifted it in the meantime, of course!
hehehe Haz, nice image. Actually, the concept of 'male' and 'female' brains is rather flexible. Some women have brains that work in a more 'male' way and vice versa.
My sister-in-law is a science teacher in a secondary school. At first she taught only girls then, about ten years ago, boys joined the school. She sees a vast difference in the way they behave and need to be taught.
If you say to the girls, 'This is dangerous, you must stand back', the girls stand back. The boys surge forward, trying to get as close to the action as possible.
If you say 'Don't turn the controls beyond 5, the apparatus will be damaged', the girls won't turn it up beyond 3. The boys will have it up beyond 5 just to test and see if the warning was correct.
it is exactly like that here with my boy and girl.
I would do taht Haz
She's found it quite interesting, but frustrating at the same time.
I would be the one taht would go and see if it would explode
I can imagine. Having a mixed class means you cannot satisfy both at the same time. Not easy.
See I am the kind of person that has to turn the Iron to 5 to see what happens. Then again what is an iron
pushing the limits, huh lady ;)
But she does like the way the boys have their arguments but get over them quickly instead of the girls who brood and fret and keep arguments going for weeks.
PHone...
I much rather like teh way boys deal with things. Snot each other then shake hands and get on with it. Girls just bitch and carrier on
Exactly. Girls divide up and take sides and perpetuate the hurt, boys get it out of their system and carry on.
yep, very different. I also see a huge difference in how my boy and girl are acting up in puberty now. My son is moody, rude and tests our patience with his disobedience. My girl is emotional, manipulative and cannot stand any criticism.
That sounds normal, sprite.
They will both come through eventually, but it's a bit of a test of patience all round.
oh yes, I know it is. Just watching them being so very different.
I was both
My only advice is to choose your fights but stand firm when it's important. They will thank you for it eventually.
I kind of like it. Not all the time, of course. But seeing them wrestle with all those hormones and testing all boundaries... I don't know, it is heroic too. And they are still lovely people, in between.
When they're about 30 and have seen sense...
thanks, that is good advice. One thing I have had to learn in general was to pick my battles. Will remember to do so more with my children now, indeed.
In the meantime, just get used to being someone who knows nothing, who understands less and who was never young.
*grins* ...have seen sense fly by
Ok who made up one of those 8s
it's funny, but I can see that standing firm sometimes relaxes my son. I mean, he is mad and angry and slams with the doors and all if we say no. But on the other hand it is like he feels safe when we are clear about a certain boundary.
I have one and I love it, lady
I was a door slammer. Nothing beats slamming a door
Absolutely - I think by you imposing the boundary, you excuse him from having to explain why he can't do something that he may not really want to do. 'My parents won't let me' sounds better than 'I don't want to.'
oh yes, that is true. I had an awful and nonstandard puberty and I love to see how our children are able to do it the 'normal' way. It is a tough battle on one hand, but it is also so very natural on the other.
lady, I have both 8s. They are both normal words! Want clues?
I have the RA i need the other
oh wait, the normal other one is the 9. The ra is weird. The other 8 is plural small yellow singing bird
Back shortly...
what does t start with please
bye for now, Haz, and thanks for sharing the puberty advice!
ca8
right Ta
yvw
Thanks I was sitting there going errr how does that work
fireflies. I have to be off, bye lady *hugs* and all

Good morning everyone - anyone?!
hi Sally
Hi lynxxx. How are you today?
Very well if tired at the end of the day. How is your Spring going?
Spring is wonderful at the moment, though a little rain would be nice (preferably at night!) for the garden. Also feeling very smug cos have just found the 9 very easily, all by myself :-)
clever girl
hi all, whats the weather like where you are, Lynxxx, twas bloody cold here in NSW yeterday

sorry gort , have just been doing the 4 letters (finished them)
that's ok sandy, i'll check the chog history; meanwhile, do you need a clue yourself?
ra 4/5 + not you
no thanks , im just pottering
thanks grannie, but i think that's the 6/24; i need the 6/21 pls
ra - she looks ra**** in that dress?

hi there bo
bugga...not vowel but cons
oooops - good evening, then
yay, thanks grannie, i owe you a burst of fireworks
lol gort gw
i looked up the so6, and the unenlightening definition is someone who holds socage?!
Hi everyone!
i can't speak for everyone, but hey brookie!
Hi gort! Love your icon... hilarious!
and I was just about to hold socage!
what stopped you, sandy?
I didn't know what it was!
socage: a tenure of land held by the tenant in performance of specified services or by payment of rent, and not requiring military service.
So now you know :-)
well technically, i hold socage, but i'm telling you, i don't hold it lightly
thank goodness my bank hasn't asked me to go to war, just to stay on my land
thanks for that sally
but the day may be coming; last i heard, queensland had been bought out by the chinese
and wa too , gort '\
shall we just plant bamboo and hope they don't try to stake their claim?
Socage must be the top of the line tenancy if you do not have to go to war.
I suppose it's what we would call a tied tenancy, happens a lot on farms.
(Feeling way too unintelligent to participate in this witty chog.)
well whaddayaknow, an se5/10 is basically a caravan park?!
How are the ties broken?
pair of scissors, usually does the job :)
The accommodation goes with the job so if they leave, they have to find somewhere else to live :-)
Socage (pronounced /ˈsɒkɨdʒ/[1]) was one of the feudal duties and hence land tenure forms in the feudal system. A farmer, for example, held the land in exchange for a clearly-defined, fixed payment to be made at specified intervals to his feudal lord, who in turn had his own feudal obligations, to the farmer and to the Crown. In theory this might involve supplying the lord with produce but most usually it meant a straightforward payment of cash, i.e., rent. In this respect it contrasted with other forms of tenure including serjeanty (the farmer paid no rent but had to perform some personal/official service on behalf of his lord, including in times of war) and frankalmoin (some form of religious service). For those higher up the feudal pyramid, there was also knight-service (military service) as a condition of land tenure. The English statute Quia Emptores of Edward I (1290) established that socage tenure passed automatically from one generation to the next (unlike leases). As feudalism declined, socage tenure increased until it became the normal form of tenure in the Kingdom of England. In 1660, the Statute of Tenures ended the remaining forms of military service and all free tenures were converted into socage. The holder of a soc or socage tenure was referred to as a socager (Anglo-Norman) or socman (Anglo-Saxon).
I think BR has trumped my definition :-)
i think it's what you call a chog-stopper ;)
Your definition was very accurate
Just ignore the post and chog on
I like this word: sorbable: to gather on a surface either by absorption, adsorption, or a combination of the two processes (sounds like the chog to me)
i think an ha 4/5 has descended on my noggin and that tv isn't gonna watch itself, so toodle pip and happy babbling
bye for now gort
bye gort!
Quite a comfortable grid with a quantity of perplexing thrown in.
Some nice finds today, BR.
Would have preferred a larger grid but K sarah serah.
Well this is my perfect size :-) Enough words to get my teeth into, but not so large that I can't go and get on with my day.
n are
hi brookie!
hi all!
hi rachel!
i agree sally
about what you said about the size!!
I realised :-)
lmao read my mind rachel

Good morning Babblers.
LOL
gm scrab
hi scrabbler
lol sally
ra 8/50 please
Hi scrabs. How are all your lovely bunnies
How is this grid? Another nasty one?
Not too bad, only a couple of really weird ones.
aww dont talk to me about bunnies!!!! we had 3 and something ate them!!!!
easy for some not so easy for others
My bunnies are adorable. I clipped the claws on my big boy, Tucker, yesterday. He weighs 9 lbs.
39 left
Good morning Scrabbler, I am on my way out but I got to 80 words in less than 30 mins...
Aaaah, Zesty.....don't make me cry.
ra8: start with what you mighr run in, then add large animal minus one vowel in the middle.
i DID cry!!!
Good to hear, phandmd.
So sad, Zesty.
there were PIECES of them, I found them! it was awful-- so , so , talk to me about your wonderful happy healthy bunns
Should have said, large animal has big antlers!
good morning everyone
gm eva
Hi Eva
that is a wierd word
Thanks Sally and finished
the world here has changed overnight. Yesterday I had tulips and a spring garden. This morning I have a foot of snow. Hmmmm. Wonder what will emerge when the snoe melts
Sure we've had it before, but not for a while perhaps.
Hi, a larger grid, great
I would love to see that eva, no snow here ever
hopefully baby bunnies=)
Oh Eva, that's sad, just when you are thinking of Spring.
I finally got that ra8. TY. Hi Eva + Bichon.
That's a lot of snow for spring. We had a dusting last week.
yes, but not that unusual for here-although this is a lot. Very fluffy though and probably won't hang around for long.
ra8? Any hints for the snow on the brain impaired?
a grid with s's and e's together
Zesty, I have raised house rabbits since 1983 and currently have 4 darling bunnies.
THAT's sad??? you guys must not like me at all geez, i lost 3 baby bunnies in PIECES! aw scrab, thats so great, that makes me happy
Just clued it Eva
and im shutting up now
Runners run 3k ra4-es, + hughe northern antlered animal minus one of double vowels in middle
thanks!
Zesty, it is a tragedy!
but yours are well loved and healthy so ill hang on to that
some
oops! Sorry
ty scrabb, i guess i needed to hear that. sorry for the melodrama, ty
TY, Eva. Good clue.
Scrabs' bunnies have their own live in doctor
lol scrabs bunnies prob have better health insurance than i do lol
Just hope she doesn't confuse her patients with the bunnies :-)
My bunnies each have their own bedroom too. They have wonderful lives. I wish I could rescue more bunnies.
lmao sally
that would be an interesting cross hybrid breeding experiment
my dog has to share a bedroom with us. He is so deprived
Bunnies are easier to handle than many of my beastly toddlers that kick, grab, hit, bite...
lol, my dog is 16.5 and spoiled
I share a bedroom with bitty Sebastian, my Netherland Dwarf.
im not sure what that means scrab lol
is the ha9 a compound?
I take it that's a breed or rabbit and not a description of your partner, scrabs :-)
ca 8 clue please
It's hu 9, and not a compound Eva
little singing birds merk
It's an hu9, Eva, and no. Think dramatic weather.
ca8 little yellow birds
Haha, Sally. Yes, a rabbit breed--the smallest. He is not even 3 lbs.
thanks haz!
You're welcome.
ah, ty
TY for ca and hu clues. Hi Haz--you snuck in!
Hi Merk.
I know. It keeps you on your toes.
Hi, Scrabbler. I'm trying to get my long words finished b4 I have to disconnect and continue traveling. Is there a clue for the other 8 and the 9 please.
hu9 - weather so windy it gets its own name.
the 9 is hu 9, think wild winds
Lovely clue, Haz.
And the other 8 please.
I already have the word, Haz, but great clue.
ra8/50 - add a singular brother of Aaron to the competitive run.
You're welcome, glad it worked.
Another great clue for a word I have.
Another marvelous clue, a gift from the gifted.
You're welcome!
How's Spangle doing Haz
She's okay, bichon, not getting worse at least! It'll take a week or two for her to get back to normal.
Any 7s that you think will stump me while offline?
What happened to Spangle?
I see we have another 'ic' grid. That has added a lot of words this week.
Most of the 7s I've found so far are normal, but then I haven't finished...
She's been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, Scrabbler.
Phew, at least that is easily treated.
Yes, you can treat that as opposed to old age
Absolutely, she'll be herself again for which I'll be very grateful.
that's good
im7 - either the one who enforces a rule or the one who outstays his welcome.
TY, Haz
No problem.
I must get ready for work. BBL
That clue I did not get, but I'm loving the grid today.
Bye for now, Scrabbler.
im7 - im plus the one who sits for the photographer.
em7 - a mall with delusions of grandeur
I can't open my chat log today; not sure why.
em 7, also a city in Kansas
That's a nuisance, it's always useful to check on previous clues etc.
Is it really? You learn something new, etc...
And how else do you keep tabs on everyone?
I was going to open it before I disconnect so I could check back. No such luck today. My IE continues to irk me, too.
Right.
I must be off for now. Any clues needed?
See you soon, Sally.
Cheers Haz. ((hugs)) to Spangle.
Will do! I'm about to get her ready for a walk, so I'll say cheerio as well.
*gone*

{{Une}} good morning
hi une
having lots of success with the 4-letter words! LOL
good for you Une
:-D
i agree, that's about all i'm getting
pretty icon, good :-)
thank you, my childhood hometown is known for their lilacs
love lilacs . . . and this year my mom's wisteria went NUTS -- massive and the scent is just fabulous . . .
they have a lilac celebration every May but it has been so warm the lilacs are all in bloom. they will be gone before the festival
i cut some to bring inside and the kids have been complaining because the scent is a bit overpowering when you are in the same room
yeah, we had early heat too -- my peonies aren't gonna be staggered this year -- all are gonna bloom at the same time!
well that should be a beautiful display!
oh, bring on that "overwhelming" scent!
yes, all too soon it will be gone
driving to my daughter's graduation at UMich tomorrow -- when I get back I'll be madly cutting and sharing peonies!
I'm back - believe it or not but it is snowing here today - expected 15 inches up north - this is April 28 right?
I have lilacs in a vase sitting on my windowsill. Mmmm

Hi Boo
I don't care for it, but it is better than the last 3 or 4

and the only reason I am not liking it is because the words aren't flowing off my fingertips
Hi Mom and Herin and bye Good Enough
I can't think of words to put in my essay
Minea ren
oops Mine aren't flowing either Mom
someone said the "ic" ending was popular but I am not seeing it

Eva time to stay indoors

I heard that this is a bad allergy season because of all the cold weather that we have had.
It is a very bad allergy season. Mine started in late March and I'm still in the throes of it
I have been taking allergy medicine too..like crazy lately
I think it's been a bad allergy season due to all the rain and sudden warming and then sudden chilling
mine havent actually been all that bad lately. i havent actually taken my pills in a few days. i try not to if im not going to be outsid emuch.
Howdilly doodilly, Babblers.

hints for the E in the very bottom row?
any kind soul have the pe 7?

Pe/7 dried Indian food
ty jan

**it's**

good to have in the back pack while hiking
Hi folks
Hiya, Crossy & Bob.
some pe 7/40,some apples and a bag of peanuts and your good for a week ;0
howdy judi
mornin Mr Crossy. :)
howdy bob
howdy eva
scribe -- thanks for the E clue. :)
sure-i monkeyed it * glad to share
i do not bother with gorp cause crossy does not like rasins;0
gorp?
got is a field mix of rasins, peanuts, dried fruit and m+m,s or smarties
gorp
ahh, trail mix. never heard of "gorp" before. :)
I have just the gorp recipe for you then, Crossy. Plain M&Ms, dried pineapple, peanut M&Ms, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds.
"good ol raisins and peanuts"
mm sounds perfect judi
Actually, true gorp should not contain chocolate. (Yeah, right!)
i like the idea of the sunflower seeds
as if judi
lol
Dried blueberries or craisins are good too.
"granola, oats, raisins, and peanuts" "gobs of raw protein"
clue for the first ca 5
instant food in a bag;))
Somehow, "gobs of raw protein" sounds ominous.
i like using dried banana slices once in a while as well
i used to have a dehydrator for making jerky, but my son broke it years ago
The Oxford English Dictionary cites a 1913 reference to the verb gorp, meaning "to eat greedily". it is most likely a "backronym" -- "a phrase constructed after the fact to make an existing word or words into an acronym."
lol, backronym.
i feel edumacated now. :)
gorp=good ole raw protien ;))
its either that or gnaw on raw porkupine meat lol
judi -- i like that term. i may have to put it into more regular use. it is a portmanteau, which is also a new favorite word of mine. :)
Porcupine meat is practical. Built in tooth picks.
yup,and safe to eat uncooked
ewwwww
so 6?
Gorpupine.
lol mnh, when i was younger and fit,i did many survival wilderness courses for competition..was able to eat things that would make a billy goat puke lol
porcupine = pork you pine.
now yer thinkin judi;)
a knife..a book of matches and in the bush you go for a week or 2 lol
Sounds very "Lord of the Flies", Crossy.
what was that show on a few years back that contestants were dared to do something - there was always an eating part - I could never watch it because if was stuff like that - gross
for firewords, so?
I dont have it bichon sorry
i saw that show mom, remember the boiled reindeer testicles?
so6 - reach the males using a consonant.
you knew they were cooked right when they popped between your teeth;0
hello everybody
howdy ruby..perfect timing
Hello, ruby.
*gaaaaag*
lol
hi haz, that is a mysterious icon!
hello mom
I thought it was bulls testicles. there was one they were eating duck eggs (duck fetus inside)
Not really, it's just Spangle in black and white.
ty you Haz, that did it
and the green hundred year old eggs
it's bad enough on the csi shows when they show maggots and I have to cover my eyes 'til DH says OK but when they start eating live ones, I draw the line!!!!
Well done, bichon, congratulations!
yuck
i like a good b+w shot haz,so crisp and defined
I don't even like it when the occasional ordinary egg is fertilitzed!
hope spangle is feeling better soon haz
Poor Spangle! Hope she's feeling back to snuff very soon.
clue for the first ca 6
what's wrong with spangle? I haven't seen haz lately
do they still make that high speed b+w film?
So do I, Mom. I'm sure she'll be fine.
Pffth. Wrap those maggots in bacon and Crossy would be all over 'em.
ca6/24 - that French notebook again.
pure protien judi;)
ruby, details about Spangle in my profile.
ah - I actually remember that - thanks haz
hello madam haz! i feel like i havent seen you in ages...
I never see that ca word! duh
gong there....
actually i have been ordered on a diet..no more back
Hello EvaN! Nice to see you too.
bacon
I don't know that
that surely sounds very treatable -- good vet!
ca plus an anagram of the word meaning to rent or lease, think cars.
Poor Crossy. Can you still have bacon infused vodka?
it's too funny since I speak more French than English around here!
Yes, two tablets each day should see her better, although she'll need to take them indefinitely.
grilled meats, lots of veggies, taters,no more than 2 tsp of margerine in a day, lots of fruit and popcorn and fibre;(
(don't speak much with DH)
i can have one "free day" a month judi
I thought that marge is worse than butter!
hints for the 8s and 9?
Or, ca, two lettered greeting, two letters of hospital department that deals with accidents and trauma etc.
Margarine - blech.
Olive oil is better.
hu9 - weather so windy it gets its own name.
ca 8 are birds
I cook with olive oil and a touch of butter for the taste; that's what the French ladies do
name that proper noun!! communications officer on USS Enterprise and participant in television's first inter-racial kiss!
ra8 - add a singular brother of Aaron to the competitive run.
Uhura!
Uhura!
ding ding ding!
I think I deserve the point because I'm not supposed to know these things - Sci-Fi being a closed book and all.
Nice clues, haz and boo. (Now I can stop trying to make weird extensions onto the cheer!)
ty
Hello, jan, glad they helped.
Why is sci-fi a closed book, Haz? All things are possible in sci-fi!
(I'm not supposed to be here--I'm supposed to be getting ready for my last day of classes of the semester...)
Hi Jan..Not a very good cluer but glad you got it
now I have to go and re-read Genesis!
you both get the point. everyone who replies before the dings appear on the screen is a beneficiary of the dings.
brb off to the market..semi-poof
Sci-fi is a closed book because I prefer not to open it. I think that's why I don't like it, because all things are possible and my imagination can only stretch so far.
me, too, haz!
ruby - he had a baby basket named after him (the singular brother of Aaron)
Not all sci-fi is good. I'll admit that. Some of it is just plain shiite.
it's OK; I'm just hopeless. At least it's gorgeous weather and I've gotten a lot of gardening done!
got the RA8, but still befuddled on the CA8 birds. *noodles*
I did a cheat and stuck annuals from flats into the holes in the perennial borders
EvaN - wee yellow ones.
TY haz. :)
I'm sure mother nature will forgive you, Ruby. I want to plant next week, but the weather is still a bit bi-polar here at the moment.
No problem.
thats NBT and NBS for me. :)
the house is pinkish-salmon and I put similarly-colored geraniums and impatiens in the border
the locals say it's too early, but we planted tomatoes on Monday
I think I'm going to do all white impatiens this year.
ty for the wee birds!
You're welcome, ruby.
I bought some really small geraniums and stuck them in the ground, very pretty, got the idea from a public planting
Impatiens give a lot of bang for the buck. And you never have to deadhead them.
i send my mom a potted flowering plant every year (so she can transfer it to her garden if she wants to). this year she will be getting gardenias. :)
I put them in the windowboxes this year because last year the geraniums didn't have enough sun and just grew wonderful leaves!
ruby - bother of aaron parted the sea
good info about the deadheading; I spend too much time deadheading stuff
aaah
*sigh* Would like to plant a money tree. Wish they existed.
supposed to be brother - typing bad today sorry
great clue, dumb moi!
how are you doing with your "project" mom?
this garden is more of a money pit!
there actually is a type of bonsai commonly known as the money tree. :)
very good actually
You got there in the end, ruby, I've seen much more protracted attempts to work out clues.
excellent!
and I've actually seen that word before, too funny!
some I just cant get either - you are not alone ruby
I love this grid!
93 words and it's martini time :( see you later XX
bye ruby
Bye ruby, you're doing well!
((mom))
{{haz}} thanks for the clues
You're welcome, ruby. See you later/tomorrow.
ooh, just got the dental ca6! yay
clue for the last cr 5
cr5 - c plus most of the adjective that's the opposite of urban.
Clues for hu6/27 and hu9/72, please?
hu9 - strong windy storm
ty Haz
You will shout a loud hu6/27 if you come through a hu9 unscathed.
Duh. *awaiting giant net of fish*
Greetings all Just popping in for 5 mins before I head out to the post office and afternoon errands.
Hiya, FM.
Suitable salutations, FM! How did you get on with upholstery man?
Hey Judi. He was here for 2 hours Haz and I will have my new covers in 2 weeks, plus he left me enough material so I can cover a stool and make a couple of cushions.
ooh that sounds juicy!
That sounds good!
2 weeks is really fast, but then he probably knows what he's doing.
Hi ruru!
Have you ever covered a stool before? I'm assuming it will be a hammer and tack job rather than sewing?
Hello, ruru.
morning all!
good afternoon ladies.
Yes he will only be working on my order, deliver it and then start on the next one. HAve to say it's not cheap but will be worth it. and No I haven't but am happy to tackle a small upholstery job with hammer and nails.
Good morning, jmd.
Good Morning Ruru
hi mom..
You could use a staple gun, FM. Unless you're working on an antique.
It's still bound to be cheaper than buying new furniture, so it's worth it.
hi ruru mom haz FM & Judi
Oh now that is a very good idea Judi and I have a heavy duty staple gun, thanks for that.
morning all
Hi jmb
Hello, Pini.
Hi Pini

Yep. I have to go to classes tommorow :(
I was hopping for meaty grid since I was ill
thanks - in my defense, they are right next to each other in the grid. If not upon the keyboard.
And I'm blossoming thank you Eva ;) yourself?!
and Judi. I feel violated ;) *squeezes back*
I would never violate you, NB! That's Eva's job.
Cute Pic Nancy

Gotta jet. Work intrudes. See you kids tomorrow!
You eating Breaky there?
Bye, Judi.

Hi ru and no idea
Oh no Herin; even I'm not that bad - just had lunch though. It's twenty to four ;)
pe7 - same structure as Grisham's brief bird, but change one letter.
No in your icon
Change the third letter for the one further on in the alphabet.
hi herin
Looks to me like a man on a pancake mission in that pic
withering a bit today, im afraid. took some painkillers this morning that have yet to kick in -- may need to pop a few more... :/
LOL! I've heard many interpretations of what I was eating. Boringly, I can reveal that it was pasta. I was very focused though - trust my silly bf to think it would make a good photo ;)
Ok
oh no, Eva, what's up? :(
hugs Eva
hey, check out that Q...I'm in the grid today ;)
nothing wrong. just the usual. cramps, backpain. the fun of being a gal. pain that you, thankfully, will never have to endure. :)
Gotcha! Ouch though. Imagine yourself as a man...try to grow a beard instead?
you'd do better at it than me! anyone would ;)
Eva. Raspberry Tea.
raspberry tea? does that help?
yes indeed. have a look on line for info
It has to be leaf not the flavoured stuff. Or smoke a joint.
try to grow a beard?? lol i shave at 8 a.m and buy 4 pm i have a 5 o,clock shadow and 3 new nose hairs lol
heh, well, i dont smoke (though dear fiance would be delighted if i did) so i suppose i will have to find some raspberry tea... i may have a random raspberry teabag lying around...
Eva it has to be leaf not that flavoured stuff
LOL Crossy! I've attempted it but puberty overlooked height AND facial hair with me. Hence I'm stuck as a 5'6" babyface ;)
I mean Raspberry too
Nancy but that is because you are sooo cute
we love you just the way you are, dearest!
hello everyone :)
Hello, cybernan.
well I must admit I can't see me with a beard ;)
Hi Cyber
hi, Nan! :)
lol,ill save before going out for dinner, and after the desserts ill go to the bathroom before we leave and there will be a great big new grey nose hair proudly displaying itself and ill say to it"and just how long have you been there?!" and it will say "only since the end of the main course" lol
shave
hmmm guess I need to read some Grishham books to gfinish this grid.
ruru, big bird with a huge beak.
hehe. I am watching Wire in the Blood. Go the back hand using the whole arm. Got to try that next time
*envisions* i could potentially see you with a little goatee, but certainly nothing large and full-grown. :)
don't see pelican in the grid
Pe7 - pe plus most of Mr Jagger, finish off with most of qu5/s daughter.
change the 3rd letter, nan - it's dried meat
ah -- going for the jerky?
indeed
wow. I don't know that bird.
thank you
DC hello
hi. i'm mostly lurking
You're welcome, ruru.
you're making me giggle just picturing it Eva! I couldn't have a beard; I wouldn't be able to stop stroking it
Hi, Seain!
Crossy, if they're talking, I think that's a different kind of problem ;)
you could have something long a wispy, like Dogan from LOST. :)
eh, once it grows in, you learn to mostly ignore it, NB
my wife knows when i worried or have a lot on my mind cause ill stroke my beard
this is purely hypothetical Seain; I have the face of a five year old and it will not co-operate ;)
don't even have a clue as to what I am looking for, so time to list
Ok my kitties are wondering were daddy is :(
fireworks
otherwise like dc says,it just sits there

ca 6/24, please?
ca6/24 - French notebook

You're welcome.
Eva let me guess reinventing the wheel whilst at it?
ca6 is a french notebook
I need help with two r's please
Which do you need, ruru?
ru 5 and ra7
well, they handed me what i thought was a copy of the document i already had, with a few notes on it, which i knew were coming. then, as im flipping through it, i realize that its not the exact same document, its the document with the notes i knew were coming AND some extra additions that no one mentioned when handing it to me. so now ive gone through it, highlighted all the additions/changes i knew nothing about so now i can go ask about them.
make that ra 8
I cannot figure the ru.
ra8 - add Aaron's singular brother to the end of the competitive run.
I hate when the do that

O want to play
O want to play
Well, bigmac, all you need to do is to find the words of four letters and more that appear in the grid over there. The letters need to touch and you can only use them once within a word. If you look at Help above, it gives the rules.
I can procrastinate for 5 more minutes and then I really have to move on
It is passed my bed time good night
Goodnight, herin.
20 to go -- bbl
good night herin
ty for the help haz
Bye, cyber.
my thought for today: if you feel the need to thank jesus after using the restroom, you should also feel the need to visit your doctor.
hi all......clue for ra8 please?
Hello, Flask. If you've got the competitive run (ra4/5) add most of Aaron or Miriam's brother.
Haz Ive tried that but it not working..
The run and the first four letters of the name?
lmao......I was putting both pieces the wrong way around!!!

Enough slapping!
No problem.
needed some sense knocked into me
You've always struck me as being remarkably sensible already...
lol, I try but these last few days, I question myself
Right, I must be sensible as well and take a break. I've been doing this with one eye on family history research and I'm awash with names and dates. Some fresh air will help.
yes, fresh air always helps. Good to see you

can I clue the na5/10 again for anyone before I go?
n + a4,4
But if I got a clue for the AR 6/18, I might start thinking better of it.....
Hi everyone, just lurking on my lunch break.

city was cluing it for boo
ca8 ... small yellow birds
Come back, come back City.... AR 6/18. Please
don't have it, soodle
thanks for the ca8!
I think the far right e is the monetary unit of somewhere
I have an ar6/21
ar 6/18 is obscure and esoteric (literally!)

I'm still trying to get the ar6/18!
ar 6/18 is like the ar 5/10 (stood up) with an extra vowel. Ar6/21 is obscure and esoteric.
hu9 - very strong wind
ar5/10 with an extra vowell in the middle
can't find it.... :((
Rubes - you were talking about flowers earlier. Think typical englilsh flower, and insert a vowel between the first two letters, and put an A in front...
yay, found them
nm, got the 9
I was looking at the wrong r's
have a wonderful day everyone, and happy babbling! (poof)
the garden is filling in!
i have yet to monkey the e -- is it a 4 or 5 or 6?
bye brookie
bye brookie
thanks for the bird clue. How about ca5/14? My last word
if it's the monetary unit and not something else entirely it's ec4, jmc
LMAO - nope, it's a colour
nbt with the color!
Sorry for wasting your monkeying time - was that the right E at least?
and the big flightless bird, spelled funny
okay i am back to my job saving the world! *dons cape and leaps out window on a single bound*
bye, jmc
you're my hero, jmc!!
But is she stronger than silent E?
any hints for the far right n?

ar + bamboo stick
fooooooooood comaaaaaaaaaaaa..............
ne4 and 5 - like sound baby birds make.
ne4's foot oil
how about a right-hand n, city?
neep
that's it, and plural :)
and I think the far right N (sigh) is the Scottish Turnip + plural or N -double-vowel-cons
whoops! I got so excited!! heading for PB!
that's the fellow, ruby ;)
ne 4: n + double vowel + *enny for your thoguhts
is that like a swede?

Royalty, Une
oh, good grief!!! thanks!
lol, np, it's off in the wrong direction
hey now, lets not call me the bondage QU (btw, to the PB with you!) -- youll give me a reputation!
to the PB with you city - you cant go anywhere now
oops, there, you have to let me go so I can make it to the PB.

em7/36 is a large mall or (apparently) a city in Kansas
ty for the city in KS, city
*applauds dc*
Erm, not too well up on Kansas geography...
then go for the shopping precinct with delusions of grandeur, soodle
food em7 - plural form
Thanks City. The delusions of grandeur are very familiar to me :)
I meant the mall, not you, Soodle, but thanks for the lol.

I think I will leave the cluing in dc's capable hands ... night, all !
Thanks again, City
g'night city, sweet dreams

How about you, DC?
i'm alright, thank you
How is Tom doing, these days?
nephew is not feeling well, and has been a bit trying, but par-for-the-course for a 4-yr-old
eh, he's okay. he went off his meds, so his sleep has been irregular, and he's been cranky, and gets in weird loops in his brain. Sigh. This too shall pass
I know it can be tough at times, but at least he's still around. As for the 4 yr old - I have found that bribery is wonderful....
ah, i don't do that with him, as he'd never eat much good for him that way :)
i caved and let him have popcorn for lunch today, though
Not just food, DC. Promises of treats, stories, trips to the cinema...the list is endless!
hiall....clue please for ar6/21?
hi everyone, I wonder if you can help me please? I'm stuck on my very last word, it's the pe7/40.....has anyone got it and if can you give me a clue please?

Hi Momneedshelp - did you get snow this morning? We did here in Conn.
Hi Peabody - It was snowing when I left for work - not sticking though - they were expecting 15 inches or better up north.
Here it just snowed for maybe 15-20 mins. and then turned to rain. The temp dropped down to 21 last night!
supposed to be cold here tonight too. Thought we were done with the wood stove but guess not. So snow today and 80 on Saturday - thats New England for you.
hi all
Time for me to go home - waiting for the oil man to come and give me heat! it's suppose to get to 80 here on Sat. too - See everyone tomorrow.
I got to run - maybe see you on tonight. Hi and bye Pini. Have fun Soop
;)
Finished!
what??? you got all the words???
guess i'm just new to this... altho i got the 9-letter word in no time with no help :)
sounds like you are doing fine soop
Congrats Mudd!
Yes, I finished. I do it 'cold' and when I hit the wall, I go to Lickety's List to finish it up. But when I first saw the grid, I thought 'no way' with all of the r and u tiles, but in the end, I loved it.
what's lickety's list?
crime
sorry! was entering a word in the wrong place!!!
hi soop...
under the grid there's links to "Friends of Babble". Go to "Lickety's Babble Clues"
hi mudd
hi pini
hi crissie
+ h
(and all lurkers)
hi Pini
just having a little lurking babble here, but eveyone needs to be told about Lickety's list
bbl doc appt.
sorry to be so dumb, but i cant work out hwo to use the list...
it lists all the words in alphabetical order giving the first 2 letter followed by the number of letters in the word and the point score
right click on the Lickety's Babble Clues...open it in another window...put the Babble window next to the clue window...
you can copy the words you've found (under My Word List) and paste them in the large box at the bottom of the clue list in the clue window; then press Bulk Add
the words you've found will populate themselves into the list and leave blanks for words you have yet to find...
soop, have you read the Help instructions to find out how the points work?
...to keep your clue list updated, you'll need to copy/paste periodically.
yes... i'm just so tired and my brain is fried. tough day with my little girl and its getting late here in london...
Points: 4-ltr words are tile values x 1; 5-ltr words are tile values x 2; 6 x 3; 7 x 4; etc.
how old is your daughter soop?
...and having found only 6 words, I'll go back to work now...cya l8r 2nite ;) Happy babbling...
bye Pini

Hi Chrissie and Lynxxx

be back later tonight
bye Mom
bye bye Lynxxx
hi Babblers, back to finish (hopefully)
hi Aloy
hi lynxxx!
grumble, grumble, must have been half asleep this am.. missed some fishies!
well I just found the 9, my only defence is that we don't have them here
lots and lots of them here, I'm afraid.. season starts Jun1
Very scary.
indeed.. we are in the town that was wiped out by Charley.. took over two years to get back to some semblance of normalcy.. fortunately our house was built to the newer standards, so just minor damage
can people even get insurance for it?
yes.. but everyone's rates went up ... ins. comp. dropped them so they had to get a state-backed ins.
"Citizen's" insurance
Good that you have such a thing
yup, the price for living in "paradise"
holy cow, I even missed the genre of Aida
You are talking about Florida and not Ohio
lol, yes! but last year, when I went north and hubby stayed south, ironically.. we had such a bad storm and lost elect. for over a week.. he had no prob.
so, ya never know
do you ever have severe weather?
Rarely. Though we had a severe if brief hailstorm a few months ago which did $7M damage. I guess bushfires in Summer are our main problem. Cyclones up in North bringing floods as well
??? my reply to you must have been lost in cyberspace.. sorry
I was just commenting that I don't think there is any "ideal" place to live minus some kind of weather threat or sunami or earthquake, etc..
*yawns* evening everyone...back to finish but not sure if I'll make it
hi there Nancy Boy!
morning NB
We have certainly all had our share of natural disasters over the last few years. It has to be connected to Global Warming surely
Hi Aloy, Lynx! I'm so tired that to say "morning" just sounds completely bizarre ;)
hard day at work, NB?
yup, I was definitely not with it this am, missed the hangman's noose too
not really Aloy, that's the strangest thing! Today was the shortest shift I have (I'm a house-husband on Wednesdays ;)) but it's completely tuckered me out. I must be getting old!
oh sure!
maybe your biorhythm is on the low part of its cycle.. tomorrow will be better
probably, Aloy - maybe my body just adjusting the change in diet. I've spent my entire 19 years as a ball of energy and I don't intend to stop now! :)
With both day and night shifts your body just can't get into a routine.
what did you change in your diet?
change in diet? from your mothers cooking?
true that, Lynx - and lol, no! I recently went back to veganism - still eating healthily but body must get used to the lack of meat and dairy. Though personally I don't miss it
try some B vitamins
keep your iron intake up too Nancy - you live a fast life
right, no iron deficiency anemia for NB
BBS
thanks, ladies - will do both of those things. but you'll have to blame yourselves when I'm newly pepped-up and talking a mile a minute on the chat, not letting anyone else get a word in edgeways ;)
okie dokie (-:
whew, finally finished.. anyone need a clue before I scoot?
ok, Happy Babbling then.. see you next grid. Bye, NB..
Hi everyone
oops, missed that - bye, Aloy!
and hi, Pinny :) just me here I'm afraid - and about to turn in for the night!
No worries - I'm just dropping by for a bit, but toooooo tired to play for long
Have you had the stitches out yet?
hi all, i have 8 munites to kill, zoom zoom
oy, minutes!
Hi Gwen
ugh, sorry, easily distracted this evening - yep, I've had the stitches out! I was quite sorry to see them go - no longer have an excuse to make Leo wash my hair for me! ;)
hiya pinny, nancy, et al.
You don't really need an excuse, do you? Glad to hear you managed to have them out without too much trauma though
Hiya, Gwen!
what, no points for sopmoric? LOLOL
Not exactly, Pinny ;) and thanks for asking! the feeling was strange - more sort of ticklish than painful - so a few minutes of shuddering and it was all over. Will be more careful where I stick my hand in future though!
sorry to hear about your stitches, nancy -- didn't hear the beginning of the story at all . . .
sorry, buddies, gotta gly POINK

I've a co 4/5 to do a story of clues for you. I usually do story of clues after I finish puzzle, but the end is an5/10 so here it is. I ar5/10 this morning hoping to finish the grid.Sometimes I can't co4/6 with the grid So4/5 puzzles make me want to pull out all my ha4/5. Other times my brain gets very so 4/4 from thinking too hard. However, this puzzle is not too bad. I don't like to im 6/24 on babblers by begging for clues. So if the puzzle is hard,I just hi4/5 some monkeys to help Some4/5times the monkey becomes a cr 5/12 and cr 5/12. Or my monkey becomes a mo5/14 and mo 5/14 around doing nothing.Or the monkeys act like im4/6 and they refuse to help which ir 4/4 me mo 4/5 than anything. But if my monkeys are helpful they ea 4/4 bananas which I keep ne 4/4 to them. Now I he 4/5 my hubby approaching to use computer. So I'm going to watch my soap op 5/12. I do not ca 4/5 if I finish the grid. It's ra 4/4 for me to get fireworks anyway.

Sometimes I get so excited about these grids I stare at the monitor with my nostrils flaring

you should be dragonrabble
dragabble?
the monitor moves back a bit to accommodate the boundaries of its space
ill take ur word for it, u lost me
i still cant believe someone joined for me, thats just so selfless and sweet
obfuscate, obfuscate, and obnubilate too
i was dreading the end of the 2 weeks

I'd be happy to help, ZeStY...
ok, so, a priest walks into a bar...
chemo is over. now they have to figure out why my hormone levels are screwed up so they can start me on an after cancer treatment
thanks for asking
No need to be concerned, ZeStY === I have had many diagnoses including an irrational fear that the welcome mat really did not like me
sorry
geez joey hope they figure out a treatment that regulates you soon-- my mom has hep c. they are always re-adjustign her meds
Good luck with that, joey.
u know i wasnt being serious though BR
hello peeps
Best wishes, joey...
Hi, GE!
hola good
Yes, Jess, I know
Hello, Good Enough.
thanks all.
k, just want you to know, i'd never ever use personal knowledge of a friend in such a way.. ppl have done so to me. no good . ok, happy now lol
i'm back from doing my good deed for the day. i know i should just go to bed but here i am
ok someone give crazy clues again!
what was the deed =)`
and were you good? jk
Good for you, doing a good deed! I did practically nothing today...
i volunteer at the local homeless shelter once a month. tonite was the last for the season so we take a break until october
( i type faster than i can delete... i cant censor myself-- i should disconnect the keyboard after x beers)
I trimmed the nails in the garage studding today.
you make the deed sound so seedy :)
i had a root canal today
hehe i try to make things interesting
i'm sure all those things helped the world in some large and fantastic way
lmao yeah i wont be complaining about that one tooth, definately doing the world a favor
and you employed a dentist - thats helpful. at least i hope you used a dentist...
YO JELLEN wakeup
Do the number of homeless at the shelter decrease whn the weather warms up, Good Enough?
hahah yes i did, i could keep him in business
yes we usually have around 40-50 but tonite we only had 24 - we were saying we thought that was a record low
i worry that they'll overheat in the summer
just finished reading an amazing book about the communities below NYC tunnels
Well, good for you for volunteering, Good Enough. There are so many that need help with no where to go.
yeah i really don't know how they manage in the summer when the sites close. some go to neighboring counties where they have year round shelters but a lot stay outdoors (forest preserves, etc)
i bet lots go underground too, if there is an underground where you are
trying to get to heaven somehow...
Sorry, my niece just came online...brb...
hb jellen
good perspective and good lesson for my kids (they don't go with but they know about it)
i'm sure they know all the places to go and probably some do end up in the city with such places
wish more parents would do things like that
er, educate their children in similar ways
hey zesty my SIL just finished hepatitis c treatment and is cured, she was in a new trial treatment
actually, it cant be cured, just goes into remission
well thats what i thought but her levels are low or whatever and she is saying cured
treatment was pretty lousy but it has worked thusfar
in remission- there is a 5 point test-- 2 or below is in remission, im glad she is doing well
also depends on what level of hep c you have -- aka how bad your liver is
gotcha, feels much better now that treatment is over. the hep never bothered her but that treatment is like chemo
i know, my mom had to have 20 vials of blood drawn every month and 10 injections of ... im forgetting the name, a week
oh man, that will exhust you
her hair looked pretty funny though, we can laugh about it now, anyway, im glad your SIL is doing well, my mom is the only one still alive in her hep c group
k, so happy talk now......
and ty for listening, i didnt mean to get into all of that
yes my SIL lost some hair, thinned i guess. she gained weight and had zero energy. ended up on antidepressants
lol gotta love this site
hey zes, you have gone pro, well done!
lol ive gained weight, lost some hair and am on antidepressants too- no excuse here lmao!
ty sandy-- some nice person did it for me!!!
another one bites the dust, we love to spread the addiction!
happy early bday to me-- so TY whomever "pro"ed me!!!
haha you deviant you
i lost all my hair, lost a lot of weight and probably should be on antidepressants......lol on me too
okay, now that ive rambled for ages, im going to walk the dog, smoke a cig and attempt to sleep-- thank you everyone for making me smile, lol, a lot
you can have some of my weight joey =)
Zes, that happens a lot, there are some really kind people around
goodnight all, and thanks everyone , i feel loved!!!
oh, no thanks. i am sure that some of it will come back on its own
night zesty!
G'night, zesty
