Yes, we don't see the doctor for another two weeks, but we see a nurse before Tim gets chemo.
I hate to be crass, jellen, but I hope Tim has good health insurance. It would not be a problem here so it's hard for us to understand.
I am going to be good and not start the grid until tomorrow...
He does have good health insurance that he's in danger of losing at the end of this year unless we get the government to declare him disabled....but that's another story...

OK: 4 egg whites, 8 oz caster sugar, half teaspoon vinegar, 4 oz (100g) chopped roast hazelnuts, icing sugar, 4 oz frozen raspberries, about quarter pint double cream.

Whip egg whites till very thick, add sugar gradually (don't overbeat), then add vinegar and fold in nuts. Divide between 2 creased and bakewell-lined large flan dishes. Cook 30 minutes at No4/180C, then 15-30 mins at No 2/150C. Then turn upside down onto fresh bakewell, remove lining, return to oven to dry at very low (No 1,120C) to dry for about 30 mins or so. Cool (doesn't take long). Put whipped cream and defrosted raspberries in middle, dust with icing sugar.
Will check size of my flan dishes in a minute. Sorry creased should read greased!

Alternative: add 100g very dark melted chocolate to cream for filling, then drizzle a little of the melted chocolate on top.

Yes, it's round like a round cake. The meringue is very light and cracks, but that's fine. If you sieve icing sugar over the top it looks wonderful and hides any cracking of the meringue.

Caster sugar is very fine sugar, very powdery but not as fine as icing sugar.

For a dog lover who is totally unafraid, the shock must have been incredible. Evidently, this was a rescue dog from the local SPA where the owner works. Really irresponsible to adopt a dog whose background is unknown and which is that large!

this is a very nice little village and we feel very much a part of the community, especially now. Everybody knows my husband, at least by sight, because of his 12 years of walking our beautiful dogs
and although he is shy, he always greets everyone and the dogs have always been very polite

(or they think they are OK and don't need the medication because it makes them feel 'dull')

Apart from the cost issues, is there not also an element of the authorities reacting against many years when people were kept in mental institutions who didn't actually need to be there. I agree, things have swung too far in the other direction.

We have the situation here where because of 'Human Rights' a demented old person, for example, may be offered his/her drugs, but they cannot be forced to take them. If they're demented, how do they know they need them?
I think there could be some system whereby they keeps strict tabs on them- Liberal or Labour - both parties have put it in 'the too hard basket'

It seems to be a case of Human Rights trumping common sense with the vulnerable being worst affected.
the Human Rights should include the right to be taken care of when one is unable to do it oneself.

good morning friends! speaking of gardeners....The kids and I decided to try to grow our own watermelons this year. I went big time too = didn't use seeds, got starts from the local garden center. The organic kind, in the peat pots and all. The vines took off, and we have been watching six baby melons grow with great interest. The other day it occurred to me, the vines must have been mislabelled, and we have several lovely.....canteloupe. which no one here enjoys. Fun!

my other two weird talents are: I can do weird voices and accents, and I can sing the words to Amazing Grace to ANY tune you can throw at me. the kids think this hilarious, and primo always throws weird screamo songs at me -- and I do it, every time. they roll laughing

anyway, I think the worst is over and the neighbors have been wonderful. One woman came over yesterday with her grown son and daughter to tell me she knew about it and that she would pray to "Ste. Marie" for him!

car. my mother had a cat come home after a month
car, we had a cat missing for 3 weeks and she was found 12 miles away. Found her through our local Cats Protection League. She was thin and welcoming:-)

Have you asked at yoiur local vets, cat rescue places etc? We found cat rescues were sometimes bad about identifying a cat (this one had turned up there more than once and they had denied they had her!).

It is so very hard to lose a pet in any way. They truely are family members
right now my Missy is avoiding me because she knows it's time for a flea treatment but normally she would be right at my side

when i quit in 2002,the players brand was $7.50 per pack.the wife and i quit same day.every day after that we would each put the money we normally would of spent on smokes into this large jar on top of the kitchen cupboard we left it for exactly 2 years then i rolled it and added it up.......
congrats mymu, i did 1 a day for months, till I went back to the fall semester in college, all my smoking friends were in attendance, I bought a pack of camels within an hour

always remember with big dogs that their heart is held in place in the ribcge unlike smaller dogs and if you grab both forepaws and shove one left and the other right with as much force as you can muster,you will often disable the dog..i know sounds yucky but make a wish and give it all you have

I've heard that some partsof US have 'no access to fresh produce'. Surely that cannot be true?
i find that hard to believe, though i know in some regions it may yet be true in winter
i mean how many times can you watch a shark attack a seal/person/person in a cage/albatross/more seals/etc
So, dcs, you would concur with me that many people just cannot either see or be bothered with fresh stuff if there's something either already cooked or can be microwaved? That appplies in UK in sme areas, too.

there's that, and some areas get so much snow that it's hard to get things in. Where my great-grandfather used to live in Western Md, the Postal Service delivired mail and groceries by helicopter once every two weeks from Nov to May due to the amts of snow. He let his dog out through, and took his mail and food in through the attic window in those months.
Well, it depends on the price..parts of alaska are remote enough to not get things in.
so, limit to how much fresh produce one can use in that time frame.
Here in MT you can pretty much get anything year round
We used to visit him in the late Spring after the thaw.
I worry that the pre-prepared, shove it in the microwave generation might be the ones left when a huge disaster comes, and they won't have the nous (knowhow) to make a fire, cook stuff, know what is edible and what is not etc.
i had a roomate in the early 90s that didn't know how to heat leftover mashed potatos on a stovetop. we taught him, though he found it confusing.
They won't know how to preserve food either.
I really do think we need to give all of our kids, the world over, a back to basics course.
i used to put up jars and jars of pasta sauce and salsa back when i could get tomatos for $5/case
